This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I went into this game expecting a good multiplayer and story based game, but after 80 hours of play and being level 76 the game has become boring with little content after you finish the main quest and the main quest is worse the the story of tactics and bos with the main quest not even having an ending, the few npcs like rose and modus become nothing but background characters after you finish their quest. The maintenance systems are more hassle then anything, when your gun breaks mid quest and have nothing else you just have to give up and waste time. Most of the assets from 4 are just ripped out of it and slapped onto 4 from far harbor to nuke world, even the buildings from 4 are slapped into 76
The good things about this game are less often then the bad things but playing with friends in a beautiful environment but other then that the game is highly mediocre and not worth 60$

The story isn't that interesting and the game doesn't make you feel special in any way. The daily quests don't drop loot worth picking up, the events can be interesting but ultimately you don't get any reward worth the effort...the boss battles are the same, nothing good in the drops to make you want to ever repeat them. If they added special armors or weapon drops that you could get from certain bosses or certain dailies that would help...but ultimately there doesn't feel like there is anything to do in this game. rage quit time. this game is nothing but grind, without an interesting plot. frustrating because everything breaks, but you have a storage limit for the very stuff that will let you repair weapons and armor. all you do is walk around trying to collect resources all the while being shot at, and then.... your gun breaks. totally frustrating and buggy game

I've been having a great time playing Fallout 76, and this is coming from someone who enjoys old-school and new RPGs. The main quest both catches your attention, but also allows you to freely explore the world without feeling totally wrong by avoiding it.

By no means is it a perfect game. Yes, there are bugs, and not as many as some people say, and with that 90% of them that I have encountered are harmless. Occasionally you might lose connection to the server, but 99% of the time I have had no problem with that. Stash size and inventory size is low, but those can be reasoned with by taking the right perks and not hoarding tons of resources.

CAMPs are fun to make, and while they are not as large as the settlements for Fallout 4, it is satisfying to make a camp that can be placed anywhere on the map as you go. If you place your camp in an unorthodox location, i.e. not somewhere where everyone is going to place it, you have practically no risk of it being removed. Over the course of three days my camp north of Morgantown as never removed.

In total, it is an enjoyable spinoff to the Fallout series. In fact, I can without a doubt say the environment is the best I have seen in the Fallout series. If you like the gameplay of Fallout, the world of Fallout, the possibility of having other strangers help you out, and a number of interesting questlines, then Fallout 76 is the game for you!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is fun to play but the quests are just you being talked at by a recording while doing errands back and forth. You don't really get a sense of progression because you already know the NPCs related to that quest are dead and that your efforts won't affect the world.

Hopefully they will add some interactive NPCs in the future, even it's just robots that you can actually talk to (as opposed to just being talked at by). They promised future gameplay modes, so maybe they can add a co-op story-mode expansion (a sort of mix between Borderlands and Fallout 4) that takes us to another region of America, such as Pennsylvania, where we can encounter human NPCs that were out of reach of the Scorched plague.

Everyone's complaining about the bugs and the graphics, but personally I've not encountered any bugs except for the odd crash, as for the graphics, they're fine, people need to stop being such snobs about graphics in games.

New Vegas.
Fallout).

All scores 4 and below are **** Ignore them. Game is bugged to hell and has many Qol issues. With that being said, the story told via environment is well done and is compelling. Perk system is robust and flexible. Endgame is limited currently but more is on the way. Fun with friends or alone. Currently sits at 6-7 for me, but once some issues are fixed this is easily an 8+ game.

It is not like the game completely lacks a story or npcs, no, there is a lot of story, quests and even interesting characters such as Rose and the Overseer.

I am currently over level 95 and probably played the game for over 100 hours and I am still enjoying every single bit of it. I mostly play alone, but playing with friends is very enjoyable. The whole explore, loot and fight hard enemies togethre aspect is very fun. Get to share resources and help each other out.

While you can tell PVP was not a focus of the game, the bit that does exist is also quite fun, such as fighting over a workshop.

If people have been expecting a singleplayer game then I can understand you are disappointed, but to review bomb this game over personal taste like that is not okay. People that also expected a new engine for this game... just... why were you expecting so much over what clearly is a sort-of "experiment". Their focus lies more on Starfield and TES6, so they wanted to reduce development time. If they decided to get a completely new engine then we probably wouldn't even have heard anything in about a year or 2 of this game. Creation works fine for this game, it just has a lot of bugs and come on, is graphics really such an important factor in games these days? Gameplay and story over graphics I say!

I love this game, but because of the bugs I can't give it a full 10. If Bethesda gets their **** together however and fixes problems the game has then I will give it a full 10!

Fallout 76 has that "one more mission" hook for me. Just one more thing, then I'll go to bed. Then it's one more thing to do. HOMM 3 hooked me like that. Before you know it 2am is here.

I expect this game to get TLC as time goes on. It needs it.

What I do like is the options for finishing quests. Do the slog of run here, get this, etc....or if you have master hacking bypass all that. How you spec your character matters. It feels like more RPG is coming back into Fallout. I didn't care for Fallout 4's RPG elements, wasn't many of them far as I'm concerned. Far Harbor was a step in the right direction, and I think FO76 is more steps in that RPG element direction.

Now I am still waiting on Warcraft 4, so I do know how a company can do an MMO and the single player game goes bye bye. I don't want that. So all those that worry about that, that's a legitimate concern and it should be voiced.

I like the holotape idea for the story. I feel like a detective. And the holotapes are dark, messed up stuff. I like the more brutal stories they are telling.

Will it run this well for YOU? It might. It might not. The game *does* have quite a few bugs which you may or may not experience. Bethesda has made some questionable design choices, and whether you are a player who is able to adapt to the design choices is ultimately on you.

The controls could use more customization options on PC, but the things that can't be changed only took me a couple of minutes to adapt to and haven't detracted from my enjoyment of the game in the least.

The graphics options should have been more robust from the start, but I've adapted to this by making the changes I want in the games .ini files. Beyond the 3 minutes that took, I haven't had any gripes with the graphics.

I've seen some people saying this game, graphically, looks like a Playstation 2 game.... I haven't the slightest idea of how someone could *seriously* come to this absolutely absurd conclusion, but welcome to the internet I guess, where 9 times out of 10 things are blown way out of proportion for the sake of seeming sensational. The graphics look fine to me. I've never needed the most cutting edge graphics to enjoy a game. So, while it doesn't have the graphical fidelity of a game such as "The Witcher 3" or "Red Dead Redemption 2", it looks just fine. Whether this is an issue to you or not is ultimately on you.

The gameplay has been a lot of fun. Gunplay feels good, so does melee. Combat feels fine from my perspective. Aiming controls are fine, and melee combat feels fine. Overall, the way you move, aim and play the game does feel mostly like Fallout 4, which is cool with me, as I loved Fallout 4.

Some enemy AI could use some work here and there. Most of the time enemies react how you'd expect them to, and other times they're dumb as rocks. It isn't a big enough issue to hurt my overall experience of the game.

I like how you have to find plans to make new weapons and armor, and you have to break down weapons and armor to learn how to make mods for that specific type of weapon or armor. Having to find plans incentivizes exploration, which I think is a good thing.

There are a lot of locations to discover and explore. I've discovered the majority of them, but am nowhere close to actually fully *exploring* each location. I'm easily going to get at least another 60 hours out of this game.

I really like the CAMP system. I build my camp to be functional and battle ready opposed to making it look "pretty". I'm a function before form kind of guy. I like to place my camp in difficult locations with frequent enemy presence because it gives my turrets something to do, and can be a fairly good way to get EXP and loot.

On the topic of the CAMP system, some things could use some polish and tweaking here and there, but overall for me it's been good. I also wish there was a way to broadcast your CAMPs location to other players on the map.

The public workshop system is cool. The fact that you are given a good supply of free resources to use for building it up is great, instead of having to immediately dip into your own resources. I see a lot of people taking issue with the fact that they "feel pointless" because when you disconnect from the game, you lose your claim on any public workshops you've had. I understand why this is the case, so it doesn't bother me in the least. The resources were free, and I enjoy building, so I simply look at it as enjoyable content. Having to build a public workshop again is a non-issue for me.

I'm not going to go into great detail about each bug that is present in the game, or each questionable design choice Bethesda has made. Very few of these things have actually affected me, and it's just not worth the time. I will reiterate that *yes*, bugs ARE present in the game. You may experience very, very few like me, or you may experience a lot. The game DOES need polish so that it's a good experience for everyone, not just the lucky people like me.

Hell, even to a player like me who has had a great experience, polish is still needed. While I think the game is very good, it's not "GREAT", which is why I have only given it an 8 out of 10. It could have been much better.

Luckily, Bethesda is going to be supporting this game for the foreseeable future, fixing bugs and adding content. This game has a HUGE amount of potential if they add content and make quality of life changes at a fair pace. Like... the extent of how cool this game could become boggles my mind. Bethesda just needs to follow through with the support they've stated they'll be giving it. If they do that I'll be playing it for a long, long time.

Some companies treat QA as an important and integral part of the game development process. Overall I would have been much more accepting of this if I had bought it for $30 as an "early access" game.

The game is not fallout 5 or even without bugs, but It is something new, not the depth of fallout 4 (Because it would not work as a multi player focused game) but not simple as ARK and RUST. Bethesda nailed this gray area and created a great game.

The launch had its issues as always in an online game, but Bethesda is supporting and releasing patches in a bi weekly basis. Great game that came with great multiplayer experiences !!!

Alright, I loved Fallout 3 and NV but this is just not good.

    1. I hate that I spend so much time killing enemies when I just want to explore 2. I hate that I can barely find enough materials to repair my weapons after fighting off hordes of enemies. 3. Why are plans so hard to find for storage, I am out of space everywhere and for the life of me I've yet to come across a storage

    4. there are no NPCs, I liked fallout New Vegas for the story and NPC interaction.. 76 barely has anything.

I have so many more complaints but this game is just not fun to play because of these small anoyances that continaully get in the way.

to add I would rather my keyboard not get worn out from me writing about what I dislike about this game.. Its certainly a far stone off of what Fallout NV was and what I enjoyed about that game.

Now that I have the full game, I've played about an hour and gave it up. Just nothing to do really. I didn't bother with F4 until 6 months after it was shaken down and I will probably do the same with this. Disappointing but I'll check in every now and then to see if Bethesda tweaks this into something a bit more interesting. The online is a huge downer and someday the servers will go dark and 76 will be a dead end. Hoping for the private server option otherwise this was a waste of money. Expand

And let the studio in the Fallout series did not bring anything excellent, the games still turned out to be unique and atmospheric (which only costs New Vegas from Obsidian). But suddenly Fallout 76 was born - the result of making money on another online besides Scrolls Online.
Where to begin? The plot - it is not. How the game begins - there are no logical explanations at all, and the player simply does not understand what is happening. In addition, there are no normal quests, nor even an NPC! I miss the knee-shot guard and Preston Garvey.
Atmosphere - it is not felt. If I just walk around the **** West Virginia, this does not mean that it should be felt. She also demolished **** bugs and bugs!
The gameplay is the engine of Fallout 4, but worse. I already mentioned the bugs above.
And the most important thing is **** updates !!! Patch in 30 GB **** did not fix, only supposedly added balance. But in the shameful world of this Fallout, an unkillable player still walks, resulting from the mistakes of the game !!!!
The only usefulness of this game in this game is the fascination of traveling around the world with friends, but this also soon becomes boring.
In conclusion, it's the worst game of the year, and probably one of the worst games of all time.

As other reviewers have said, Fallout 76 is a lonely, buggy, repetitious, mess that leaves you longing for a better experience. The constant hunt for stuff to fix, build, repair, or just live made it the game not fun to play for my family even on multi player. I had so looked forward to this game for the opportunity to play with my boys, but the lack of any NPC's other than badly programmed bots, AI's, and creatures left game play less than pleasant. In one fight with my son against a much higher level monster, four of my guns broke during the fight when they were fully repaired at the beginning of the battle. I had to pick up one of the dropped guns to continue dealing damage as I couldn't go toe to toe with the monster as it was 3 times my level. It was actually kind of funny how the terrain kept this monster from being able to reach us and squash us and we used the tent as a barrier! Don't get me started on the PVP ridiculousness. We had another player follow us around constantly shooting us even though we had no desire to engage. He eventually succeeded in killing me(even with the ludicrous reductions to damage) and dropped my son's health by 3/4 before he logged. There are so many bugs that many times one of us couldn't see the enemies that eventually killed us or sometimes each other. I took damage many times, but couldn't see who was killing me. Overall, the look and feel of the game is reminiscent of Fallout 4, but lacks the heart and engaged storyline of the factions. A most serious disappointment following what I felt was the best of the franchise in Fallout 4. Expand

    - More weapons and mods are always a good thing
    - The new leveling system actually feels really good
    - Playing with friends triples the amount of fun

    Cons
    - It gets boring... It feels like Fallout 4's settlement quests minus the illusion of actually helping people. There just doesnt seem to be a purpose beyond learning about what happened; This is further brought down by the fact that theres nothing to make you WANT to learn about what happened. Its just there and you're being pulled around by people that dont exist anymore.
    - Bugs... I dont think I need to say much more. Bethesda doesnt care about fixing bugs. They implemented a new shotgun that reloads correctly, but couldnt fix the damn lever action rifles broken reload. And dont even get me started on the buggy AI, animations, powerarmor slenderman bug, and much more. I could almost forgive some of the lack luster issues if the game actually ran well and didnt bug out all the time.

Overall, I cant say I didnt enjoy playing. Its a fallout game and it has it's moments of greatness. I just wish bethesda would start listening, fixing their broken engine, and just actually learning from their mistakes. As it stands, their "trying new things" is going to end up burning them hard, assuming it hasnt already.

A lot of people are talking nothing but bad about this game. Some of this is down to hate bandwagoning while others have legitimate criticism that I cannot in good conscience dismiss. This game is not perfect and will need (like literally every Bethesda title released on PC) work and love from Bethesda (or the modding community in the long run) to make it into a game that would make it past the incredibly high standards of modern gamers.

However, I admire it as a experiment and in the end, reviews are entirely subjective. Everyone has their own opinion. My advice would be to just try it out or watch some gameplay to judge for yourself and form your own opinion instead of reading all these (both positive and negative) and basing your opinion on that.

That being said, i've enjoyed it for what it is during my playtime. It's definitely played better with friends (as intended, most likely) and can use a good amount of polish. A decent addition to the Fallout series.

You're a real **** Todd Howard. Meanwhile Skyrim is being released for the 5th time on VR. You have re released Skyrim more times than you have actually made games. This game was absolutely pathetic. You should be ashamed of yourself. Dodged a bullet with this crap, got a refund.

I should start this review off with stating that I'm not a fan of survival games at all so I came into F76 as a very skeptical person however that said, it's not an entirely terrible experience either.

    Pros:
    - Improved animations
    - Usual Bethesda environmental storytelling
    - Ability to run around wreaking all sorts of havoc with pals
    - A non pay-to-win cosmetics shop that with a currency that is extremely easy to obtain while playing the game (With the whole free DLC bit, I figured it'd be a royal pain to even get the currency but so far its pretty easy, a bit tedious at times but generally easy.)
    - Environment is really pretty - there are some places that are a bit breathtaking when looking around and viewing, great for screenshot potential and building a C.A.M.P
    - Base-building has been upgraded - It feels a lot more responsive compared to how FO4's base-building mechanic worked, parts snap easier and are easier to handle.

    Cons:
    - Random FPS drops (I've noticed it happening a bit more frequently but it could be attributed to my AV)
    - Soft-locks on workstations - Every now and then, I'll encounter a soft-lock on a workstation when trying to use it that requires me to end the process via task manager
    - Not enough graphical options - the graphical options you can toggle feel very limited currently and the player has to resort to an .ini tweak to be able to turn off motion blur.
    - Lack of meaningful PvP - as it stands PvP isn't even worth the time/attempt. Better off making a team and PvEing. If they alter it to allow Raider types and/or Faction-typed PvP, it'll be an improvement.
    - Engine's age is definitely starting to show - The engine(Creation Engine) has slowly started to become a hindrance to the game's true potential with the hiccups it has.

Overall, I'd say the game's a solid 6, it's not great but not terrible, has plenty of room for improvement. If Bethesda works on it and provides a lot of great content additions, it could potentially become greater.

Side note: Bethesda has confirmed they're looking into Push-to-Talk as well as an FoV slider and an increase to their stash limit so that wasn't listed as a con, it'd of been nice at launch but I cannot in my right mind fault them for having a messy launch for their first actual online experience.

    -- EDIT 11/27 --
Reducing score to 4/10, dailies are causing a hard PC crash/lock which is making the game nearly unplayable as is. The bug/error only seems to happen on loading screens when fast traveling back to the objective.

Wish i could like this game, but its just no fun... It's in the fallout world, but the issue is plays nothing like a fallout game similar to eso.... pvp is unfair clans can just nuke you, and your friends base anytime. The really upsetting thing is now we have to wait 15 years for fallout 5 now just like elder scrolls 6.

It was seriously like I was flagellating myself whenever I played. It was torturous like pouring salt into my eyes and washing it out with cyanide.

"It just works" yeah it loads up and I can get in the game, sometimes. Thats not saying much and why it got a 1 from me and not a zero. Had it been a zero, the game wouldnt start, so Ill give it that.

Bethesda should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for releasing this masterpiece of a con-job. They did this on purpose. There is nothing more really to say. They fleeced good people of their money and honestly should be reported to the Better Business Bureau for fraudulent advertisement.

RIP Fallout. We will miss you.

P.S. Todd Howard and should be fired if Bethesda cares about the future of their company.

That was a shock to me given the things i have heard... i assure you, this is a Fallout experience, only with other players and no human NPC's (YET!)

The bugs are annoying, sure, but over 40 hours of gameplay later and i can count on one hand how many times my wife and i have both disconnected. The performance needs tweaking, it's definitely not the best and i expect it to improve with time. The worst issue is losing quest progress on daily/side missions if you DC. Most other bugs are the traditional Bethesda, "do i laugh at this or throw my mouse?" bugs. But it WILL get old quick if things aren't ironed out, i'm willing to give them a chance. I will join the pitchfork and torch wielding masses in a few months if they aren't, but i'm not a child, i understand how game development works!

As an online game, Bethesda's first, i expected bugs and poor performance... that's what i got. As time goes on, i expect less bugs, and better performance, along with DLC to keep me going and quality of life changes. Being an MMO gamer since EverQuest (1999) i'm very used to games like this launching in a terrible state, and being molded together with community and dev alike! Speaking of community, this one is great so far! Very helpful high level players exist everywhere, it's not uncommon to walk out of the vault with stimpacks and guns at your feet in little paper bags! I myself am going back to the vault to leave packages for newbies! We just need notes so we can leave messages :)

Embrace this time if you like shaping games. If you insist on a feature complete product... steer clear of this and any other MMO's on the market, they aren't for you!

Despite being a first attempt at trying something new, this game truly doesn't feel like Fallout in my opinion. Yes, it's a new step, but not worth leaving a Vault for. From a poor storyline, to left over bugs and glitches, and some unnecessary changes to established lore, Fallout 76 is not a game for die-hard Fallout fans. (again, this is just in my opinion.)

I honestly cannot tell if Bethesda just wanted to try making a shameless money grab like some other companies did, or if they actually believed this could work.

The game is terrible, it's like a mmorpg, but worst, they even managed to beat Elders scrolls Online in terms of ruining a series. There is a reason why Fallout was always great: the story, the immersion, forget all about

Then I get a message in my ticket saying I wouldn't be getting a refund AND they have taken access to the game away from me. So Bethesda has stolen my $59.99. The existence of bugs in PREVIOUS Bethesda titles is not only ridiculous but unforgivable when paired with the understanding these exact bugs were fixed by modders in previous games, work that Bethesda couldn't even bother to copy.

Whether or not the game is enjoyed is not the problem, but drastically worse it is from previous Bethesda games, and even as its own product, is lacking in every area video games need to excel in, from: gameplay, story, captivating lore, immersion, and unique individual experience. This is Side Quest The Game, a Fallout 4 Mod.

If this came out as a mod for Fallout 4 (which it most certainly is) and for $15 at most, then I wouldn't have a problem with it. But for what it's marketed as, I don't even think the score can be low enough. Especially since the work modders have done for previous Bethesda titles far outweighs this game in all those same categories in video games I mentioned previously, starting with gameplay. This game was not ready for release, not for anyone with actual standards, but for Bethesda / Fallout fans who will eat anything up just because it has the Bethesda or Fallout name on it, they're the only ones it's perfect for.

Broken game, not worth the micro transactions they are hawking or the $60 bare minimum price tag. (assuming you were foolish enough to trust them on release) Cherry on top was the promised refund one day, and breaking that promise the next. This experience has taken me from disappointed with the game to being uncomfortable spending money on this publisher in the future.

How can a company release a product like this and expect to be called a leader of the gaming community and the industry as a whole. I have no words to describe how they have ruined the franchise and brand image with this one so called release. I can't wrap my brain around how a company would release something like this.

I DON'T base my enjoyment of a game on issues that only occur through specific steps to exploit the game. Exploits get fixed. Exploits are cheating and can be avoided by simply not doing them.

Fallout 76 is a FUN game to play. The crafting, quests, environmental storytelling (props, dead bodies, notes, etc paint a picture), base building, gun-play, and the ability to experience it all with friends all lead to a very fun game to play. The amount of bugs you encounter while playing normally (not cheating/exploiting) isn't terribly high and are all just annoyances rather than game breaking, not to mention being addressed by the developers.

A majority of the complaints in people's reviews seem to suggest a number of possibilities:
    1. They didn't play the game for more than an hour.
    2. They're only basing it on videos they've seen of people using exploits.
    3. They've seen videos of exploits and purposely use them in the game, which would severely ruin any sense of fun.
    4. They're huge fans of having story told to them directly through hand held quests, and never bother to look around the world to find a note next to two dead bodies holding hands, that tells a story of betrayal with a hint to go to another location that with even more story, etc etc. Basically, Fallout 76 is absolutely FULL of story, interesting quest lines, and neat little secrets, but it's not fed to you by a single NPC. You have to investigate, read, and actually look at the environment (how are bodies placed, are there any items lying near them, is there a note telling you to go somewhere else, etc.).

So if you're the type of person that is impatient, only interested in running around as fast as possible to find the next NPC to tell you exactly what to do, and unable to enjoy more subtle stories, then you might not enjoy Fallout 76. If you DO enjoy that sort of thing, and/or you enjoy games with crafting and shooting all sorts of bad guys you might enjoy Fallout 76.
