Piss poor game. Limits my freedom of speech to a high degree, and I am always feeling like I'm under the watchful eye of big brother Bethesda. If you guys wanted to make an open world simulator, please do it right and actually allow people to play the game as they intend, lest you want to end up bankrupting your company.

After playing few hours my feeling was that Bethesda just don't care about getting dirty for a grab of money anymore. The company is ready to go really far.

It feels like an artist who had 2 awesome songs suddenly has an ego of god. "I can do anything with my fans, I can literally crap in a plate and make them eat it and laugh at them". But sorry, you went too far with that one.

While the lack of humanoid NPCs in the game hurts the storytelling, narrative, and overall depth of the quests in Fallout 76, the game still manages to intrigue to a decent extent.

To start, the environmental storytelling might be the franchise at its best, but most of the actual quests given by non-human NPCs, terminals, holotapes, letters, exc. begin to feel same in execution, despite having genuinely interesting and compelling story arcs. The amount of quests is heavy, more than any previous game, but they're very often repetitive and require more reading and listening than actual reacting and participating; to be fair, the stories told as I've previously mentioned are good, sometimes amazing, but a lot remains to be desired due to lack of variation.

The impromptu events are often quite fun, but often also require real teamwork and communication to accomplish; there is where Fallout 76 either thrives outright or falls flat, depending solely on the experience you have with over players in the game. With teamwork and cooperation, these encounters and missions are often thrilling and extremely rewarding, but with a incompetent passive squad, they feel un-engaging and tedious. The experience depends solely on how you work with others.

As for PvP, well it's really just a broken, pointless, more so annoying mechanics that serves almost no purpose in the game other than claiming that it's a thing. It's shallow, unfun, boring, and offers no thrill and virtually no reward.

That being said teaming up with friends and co-oping is the best part of this game outside of environmental storytelling, and this is where Fallout 76 separates itself from the pack. It's quite invigorating to complete quests and events as a squad, as well as discovering new places, their hidden secrets, and defeating West Virginia's mythological creatures together. Genuinely, I believe this would have better off as a co-op experience solely with no PvP elements.

Mechanically it plays like a refined Fallout 4; imagine Fallout 4, but far better. Performance can be hit or miss, and suffers greatly on consoles, but visually this is the best looking Fallout game, and the best looking game on Bethesda's aging Creation Engine. Some of the textures can appear muddy or bland, but the color pallet is vibrant, and the lighting effects are top notch.

The final thing is the crafting and survival mechanics, which aren't extremely engaging, but at the same time not that much of a nuance; it's a mechanic in the game, it makes things slightly more interesting and raises the stakes a bit higher, but overall it just gives you a reason to explore your environment thoroughly and keep you a little bit more occupied.

The map is over 4 times the size of Fallout 4's commonwealth, and the locations are varied and interesting. The world is a highlight of this overall mediocre, what what you want out of it game.

Fallout 76 isn't bad, it's just made some bad directional decisions. It contains elements of the franchise at both its absolute best and absolute worst. Overall, it's just kind of okay, but definitely worth playing with friends if you're big into Fallout.

The main elements of what made fallout games immersive: the story and the colourful characters are missing. Without those things, the dodgy physics, bad connection and bugs stand out way too much to be forgiven. Sadly whether you were hoping for a fallout game or a MMORPG in a fallout universe, you'll be disappointed. It's 95% filler... and 5% broken dreams.

A good idea executed badly across the boards, with a lot of evidence that Bethesda did not prioritize the customer with any of their decision-making during the development or marketing of this game.

It is a mediocre effort unworthy of the Bethesda legacy, and offers little of the Fallout brand's personality and style beyond the purely aesthetic, and it doesn't even manage that well.

At its best, Fallout 76 is an opportunity for you and a friend or three to romp around a gameworld made to look like part of the Fallout world, and if all you really wanted out of the game was that, you might be perfectly happy with it.

Don't bother looking for rich story (there is very little), compelling characters (there are very nearly none) or a tapestry of lore to explore (everything you'll learn about post-apoc Appalachia will come from computer terminals and audio logs, with very little exception).

This design decision to have no NPC's and no driving storylines makes playing Fallout 76 feel like a study in futility. You can pick a direction and go in it, but it won't matter. There's nobody of interest to find, no storylines to stumble across and a tremendous amount of repetitious quests that all bleed into eachother after a few hours and become a mindless exercise in numbing tedium.

By the time you wind up having some random nobody from the internet follow you around for half an hour making stupid noises in the Microphone and asking you about your genitals, you might just be grateful for the break in monotony.

The lack of polish and lazy development game mechanics in this game is something I would expect from an early access indie publisher that dumps their garbage all over steam.

The graphics are pretty decent especially when it comes to foliage, the rest of the textures seem to be recycled from fallout 4, the game play and weapon handling outside of vats is identical to fallout 4, with the only exception being that you are constantly fighting a storage limit in your stash at the mid/late game in FO76. and the small increase coming is nowhere near enough, and the base building limit is absolutely pathetic.

While i expected the FO76 to have some bugs as all Bethesda games are very buggy anyways, fallout 76 is probably the buggiest AAA, or even early access game ever released and probably will ever be released. it is almost impressive how many there are in this game. From T posed characters, mismatched animation bugs and movement bugs, textures disappearing, containers slow/infinite loading bugs, weapon texture and ads bugs, reload bugs, many many status effect bugs/glitches/exploits, including the weight glitch that is being exploited by many players, equipment durability bugs & status effect bugs, crafting menu bugs, pipboy bugs, cloaking bugs, scope texture misalignment after reloading bug, melee bugs, and base building bugs, enemy spawning bugs, and enemy clipping into the terrain bugs, an impressive variety of quest bugs, and the thousands of bugs you could probably find on the official forums, It is impossible to play for more than 3 mins (other than standing still and even then you would be lucky not to see one) before seeing an immersion breaking or frustrating bug. you could almost pick any random word out of your imagination and there would be at least two or three bugs in FO76 that would relate to it!

To say that this game needed another whole year in development to fix the bugs alone, is an understatement. let alone add some semblance of a real story not to mention human NPCs, that would have made it fun. people who are giving this a 10/10 must be out of their mind.

As much as I have tried to enjoy this game and have had some fun at times, I still find myself utterly disappointed, and jared by the incompetence of Bathesda, by what they did to this game and how they charged $60 for the privilege of the most incomplete AAA title of the decade.

I have been a huge Fallout/Elder scrolls fan for a long time, and to have Bathesda pull this stunt on its loyal fan base is utterly insulting, I swear will never pre-order another title from Bathesda as long as I live. my outlook for Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield is now nonexistent.

The game itself bland and unexciting and I bet that there is more excitement from a morgue on a dull day then you would get from this game.

Then there is Bethesda handling of their customers. Ranging with the handling of their $200 dollar Collectors Edition to customers requesting refunds for the game.

I requested a refund on the game like many others and received an automated response which have upset a great deal of people.
    And I quote,
    "Greetings,

Thank you for contacting the Bethesda Support Team.

Customers who have downloaded the game are not eligible for a refund. We apologize for the inconvenience.

If there is anything else we can assist you with please reply to this email for further assistance.

    Thank you for your patience.

    Kind Regards,

    Bethesda Support"

First of all, just by downloading the game, you no longer eligible for a refund. I call nonsense on this. How are people suppose to know if the game is good or bad. The only way is to download the game and play it. Yes, you can go to game news sites or watch videos about the game. But there will be a few sites and videos praising how great the game is.
At least with Steam, they have procedures when it comes to digital games. You can ask for a refund within 14 day and haven't played the game for more then 2 hours.

At this point, Bethesda is still digging their own grave due to all the anti-customer practices they are doing on a daily basis. Right now, the depth of the their grave has gone past the 6 feet mark and is just going straight down.

Bethesda needs to sort out all of their problems involving Fallout 76 and it's customers. If they don't, I can see that their next few games won't do so well because of how they handled Fallout 76.

As for me, I will be more weary on buying any more of Bethesda's games in the future. I will wait a month or 2 and see if the game is worth even buying.

For the game itself, I'll make a true list of pro and con

    +Fallout (kinda)
    +Dream of multiplayer came true
+There are some cool addition in guns and enemies
+The LOCATION of the game makes it beautiful

-It is literally a combination of Skyrim / Fallout 4 (look up the coding on the Scorch Beasts.. and Falllout 4 references in the files)
-The survival is just annoying. food and drink run out stupidly fast even with perks and disease is so common
-No human npcs and the robots they have are all the same robots from previous games with not many changes to even voices
-The bugs... dont even get me started. i can make a 5K character review just on that. And i dont want to hear that "new games have bugs" because this garbage is like Fear Factor for gamers.
-Uses the same old engine they had for ages. (that sucked to begin with)
-The player interaction is dull, either someone hits you for 10 minutes and breaks all of their weapons (just for you to stimpack for all the hp) or they're babbling and mouth breathing like a mongoloid into the microphone not knowing they are even in voice chat. When they find out they join 90% of players who have turned it off
-The upgrades and crafting is too much grinding for the little reward it yields.
-THE STASH LIMIT (i filled my stash limit (with only useful materials, not even weapons) within hours.
-The constant radio-silence from Bethesda because they know they lied through their teeth the whole time
-Building is trash.. (enough turrets to defend your base leaves you with a little amount left over to actually personalize while no turrets allows your base to get steam-rolled by enemies. Plus my build limit has been glitched at full with nothing built for 6 days)
-Lighting / god rays are nauseating and shadow effects are based on your characters orientation to the object.
-Everything is tied to FPS (reload speed, run speed, etc.) and their solution was to cap the fps at 63 because they "couldn't do anything about it."
-Support staff blame the games instability on your pc hardware or give you a copy/paste blanket response to justify.
-End game leaves nothing to do. I killed the Scorchbeast Queen at level 50 and it dropped mediocre loot. I am now level 93 and the items level caps at 50 even though i fight enemies around my level (little guns, big enemies). Making the grind harder and harder for literally 0 reward.
-Factions are useless. I've done just about all the factions' entire quest lines (about 20min to complete) and all I've gotten was stupid costumes and access to vendors with sub par gear.
-Boring. There's a big world with nothing to do except mindlessly kill stuff and do gather missions that yield, yet again, useless gear.

I doubt anyone will even read this far so i feel i'm wasting my time. In conclusion, I could go on for days, but Bethesda's EA level deceit and laziness has shattered my love and trust for the only company in gaming that i still respected. BIGGER let down and over hype than No Man's Sky. Don't understand why this took YEARS to develop this AIDS vector when it was a copy and paste job, but I do understand why i will never buy another Bethesda game, period.

I created this Metacritic account, just to give this game a 0/10. I have never even played the game. That's how bad it is. Anyone who disagrees, is just butthurt that Bethesda won't give them their money back. Garbage. Absolute garbage. I have made it my mission to find EVERY user review source possible, and give this game a 0. Congrats Bethesda.

Empty world, unfinished gameplay and horrible bugs. The graphics are from last gen and the inventory space is a huge annoyance. No reason to play this game. Every other fallout game is better so there’s no reason to play this unless you like to torture yourself.

    4. A barren wasteland of a game (a restricted sandbox), it's basically Gmod without the fun
    5. 50GB update and 15-17GB follow up

I WILL change the rating if the game is (no other words to say it) a proper flushed out game.

The game itself is a buggy mess. Bethesda games are usually this way, but F76 takes it to an unplayable state. My most recent experience involved me having to restart the game because all the walls around me turned bright green. However, when it works, the game can be a lot of fun, despite the lack of NPCs and the flawed CAMP system. Bethesda does claim they are releasing an update to improve it, but the game should never have launched this way. I pre-ordered, meaning I got access to the beta, and the full game feels just as stable as the beta was. This is an early access game and should be priced like one. Save your $60.
On top of all that, Bethesda conveniently doesn't sell this game on Steam, opting to use their own launcher instead. I was fine with this at first, though downloading another launcher on top of Steam, Origin, UPlay, GOG, or whoever makes their own launcher this week, was pretty annoying. However, that also means Bethesda can dodge Steam's liberal refund policy, essentially saying they knew the (rightfully received) backlash would happen. To make matters worse, the collectors edition buyers really got nuked (pun intended). Bethesda charged around 200 USD for the Power Armor edition which came with the game, a map, and a Canvas bag. Although the Canvas bag wasn't actually a canvas bag, it may as well have been a garbage bag. This was straight up false advertising. Bethesda knew, however, and offered buyers five(!!!) USD worth of in game currency.
Save your money, speak with your wallet. Don't support these actions by Bethesda.

The fighting system was never very cool, but it was so childish fun, when you had to know off a huge enemy in F2 by kicking him in the balls and then keep hitting him in the eyes. In Fallout 76 all of that great experience is gone. the took away the sole of the game itself. There is a complete lack of interesting stories, there are no fun characters, PvP is a joke, base building is frustrating, inventory management is maddening, and Bethesda's complete lack of communication to the community is the rotted cherry on the crap cake. The only redeeming quality is exploring a lovely and large world. The game turns it's back on all of the things that made Fallout such an amazing adventure. There is a reason that I have thousands of hours invested into Fallout 3 and NV. Story trees are a big part of the past games and there is none in this game. It takes away the player's ability to make choices that can effect the story line. I can understand some of the changes from a development standpoint as being necessary for an online multiplayer game (such as VATS being changed drastically), however, there are other changes that I cannot look past and thus, a score of four. Should be noted that I own two copies of the game and have invested over 100 hours into it. I'm not just writing a bad review to lower the game's score. Expand

Also please don't force us to use Bethesda client.. Why? Why not just have people get it from wherever they want. Steam, GOG etc. This is garbage and I really do not recommend it. FO3, NV, FO4 are all so much better.

Exept this, the game itself isn't a complete mess. The only true thing that i didn't liked are the NPC's disappearence and the presence of very frequent boring dead times during exploration, but exept those things the game is fine for me.

The best part of the game are prpbably the MOB, some new monsters are incredible to see and fight and i really appriciated the effort from Bethesda on the building of this new movesets and creatures, and over this even the places to see and to explore are very nice, i really enjoy explore those dungeons

No, they quests are interesting, varied and full of fallout humor. Right now a bunch of fallout fanboys and girls wanted a new fallout title with everything that fallout 4 but better, but lets take a second to remember that when fallout 4 dropped everyone was like this game "NEEDS" to be multiplayer so here we are full circle. I personally love the game, I think it has everything a fallout title needs for it feel fallouty while still being playable in an online since. There are a few issues but lets be clear, none of them surmount to anything like a score on meta critic below that of No Man's Sky at release. I'll do a pro and cons list below but mostly I wanted to say I think the "Professional" game reviews started a lie of hate for this game and its now become cool to hate this game.

    Pros
    - Feels like Fallout
    - Graphic look good
    - Stories on holotapes well voice acted.
    - Perk system is interesting and adds enough variance to leveling up your character may take a few levels to min max, giving you something to work for.
    - Fast travel system works great and the caps cost is a great game balancer
    - Public events that aren't terribly annoying.

    Cons
    - Bugs, they aren't game breaking but a few of the release bugs are quite annoying.
    - Open mic, what were they thinking.
    - Stash storage limit, again what were they thinking? (Already been addressed with update to fix incoming.)
    - No being able to scrap ammo. Stupid.

Overall I'd give the release a 8 out of 10.

Bottom line, its a fun, new survival MMO set in the fallout world where everything still feels very much fallouty. Bugs are there none are so bad you shouldn't play and the game will likely continue to improve over the next few months. Don't jump on the hype train, the game is for sure worth playing.

But compared to quests from Fallout 4 the ones here felt very dull and that was when i realised this was not a good game and needed a lot of work to be improved.
Does it still have potential to be a good game? Maybe, but i think bethesda are kind of hamstrung by using an engine that was never designed to be online. That's why we have such a low player count per server. But expanding on the PVP (which would need higher player count) and adding human npcs, settlements and raiders, maybe in a new zone to the east would help improve things.

On top of that, even with an "anti-griefing" interface, or whatever, you still will be griefed by other players. Sure, if you don't attack back, you won't take much for damage, but you can still be trapped in doorways by players and attacked until you run out of healing items. ON TOP of that, PVP scaling is broken. If you decide to smack another player who's half your level but annoying the pants off of you, they'll two shot you with a weaker weapon. How pleasant for them. There needs to be a function to completely opt out of PVP. It's not for everyone. Don't even get me started on the lack of a push to talk function.

The blocking feature is also unfortunately not useful. I was griefed by players and needed to finish something in the area--blocking them did not stop them until they killed me. There is no in-game ticket or GM to report players to.

The story is very flat and boring as well. There are some fun things (workshops, C.A.M.P--even though that is bugged and frustrating, hunger/thirst, events--some are broken, the importance of loot, etc...). The perk system is interesting to say the least. But you can't respec if you find out your playstyle is bugged--and most online games with some sort of talent system allow you to respec for currency..

Overall, it's a big sad NO. Don't pay full price for a beta. Don't buy this if it isn't on sale. You will be griefed. You will scrap your favorite weapon if the screen lags a bit. You will be ready to go to your C.A.M.P. to put all your found loot away--only to discover that someone logged in while you were exploring, and their camp replaced yours.

Don't buy this game. It is an unfinished piece of trash.

I have played all of the fallout games, all the elder scrolls. This one is massively disappointing.

I've found some of the stories I found in the game interesting and I think there's a lot of potential. I understand that not many people are with me on this one, but I like how little I'm given and how much it is up to me to find the content. These are the factors that made me give any points to this game.

However the technical implementation has been sub par by a large margin. T-posing enemies, wildly buggy EVERYTHING, truly underwhelming combat and quite honestly it doesn't even look that great.

I really wanted to like this game but I just can't at its current state. This was the last time I pre order anything from Bethesda. They have utterly failed. I'll probably give this another go once the worst bugs have been fixed, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm no longer looking forward for the next Elder Scrolls or Starfield and that makes me sad.

I would not recommend spending your money on this game, unless they fix the bugs and you enjoy an empty and desolate world where you need to find the content, instead of being given content.

in the early days, Morrowind and oblivion had glitches and bugs that were to be expected, Fallout 3 had the exact same issue but the gameplay and story put those problems to the wayside. With the release of new vegas and then Skyrim the novelty of Bethesda was wearing thin, however, with the release of Fallout 4(a game I was genuinely excited for) the never-ending pattern of poor quality, the use of an aging engine, unbelievable persistent bugs present since oblivion days and an uninspiring story. all I can say is, thank god for mods.

Fallout 76 is the worst game ever created by the publisher but fortunately for them, there are people who enjoy the opportunity to play fallout with friends and family. However, this does not excuse the fact that this is a "boring as **** game. NO NPC's except quest giving robots, A boring as hell story(if you can call it a story), terrible enemy encounters, sucky at best PVP and early 2000 graphics that want to make me throw up.
It's sad when small indie game developers are doing a far better job producing quality games with a compelling story for $20-$40 and Bethesda wants $60 for a sub-par game with in-game currency and purchases. Most games like Fallout 76 are generally free-to-play with in-game purchases, the best example is always WARFRAME.

Don't purchase this game, find a trusted reviewer and then make your decision. Don't let Bethesda off the hook for this cheap attempt at money grabbing.

I have experienced just about everything the game has to offer in its current state. So I now feel comfortable giving an honest review.

Exploration: I have visited about 80% of the entire map (it really is huge)
Leveling system: I am level 62 currently (S.P.E.C.I.A.L points max at 50, as do the items it seems)
Story: I completed most of the main story and many, many side quests.

    Pros:
A huge map with new and cool places to explore.

A few new interesting creatures, and interesting new weapons to kill them with.

The holotape story is decent I guess.

I did enjoy the survival aspect somewhat. you will run out of food, water, and stims.

    Cons:
The whole world just feels so lifeless, I did not feel attached to the story at all!

Boring, the story is so distant and hollow that I just don't care to find out what happened, this is a first for me with Bethesda games.

Bugs, these are mostly bearable but present.

Other players hurt the story, trying to listen to a holotape and all I hear is some guy hacking up a lung into his mic, or this other guy singing barbie world into his mic. yes, you can mute them but then I have to stop what I am doing, mute them, then start the holotape over and hope some other random guy does not show up.

It seems 90% of the game is a direct copy and paste from fallout 4, let's grab the UI, creatures, weapons, houses, cars, crafting system, textures and drop them all into Fallout 76. Add a few new creatures, items, and a huge new map and sell it for full price! I am telling you this is a 60$ multiplayer DLC for fallout 4.

Summary: I am a huge Bethesda fan, Fallout and Elder Scrolls are amazing, I am trying hard to look at this as a new and fresh Idea that just fell short in some ways. I would have been happy to purchase a new DLC for fallout 4 and give it a try. But I was expecting something.....more!.

I believe I have received much more than I paid for in several of Bethesda's past titles, this one kind of went the other way for me personally but I am still very hopeful for future projects. I also am a single player gamer, so adding multiplayer was bound to crash the party in some ways.

Everything combined I would say a 6 out of 10 is fair, if you love the franchise you will like some of what they did here. And I imagine you will still get a few dozen hours of enjoyment out of the game.

For me exploration of the world is one of my favorite parts about fallout, but for some the lack of NPCs kills the urge to explore the world, I personally find the survival mechanics, atmosphere, player interactions, and collecting loot to be enough motivation to explore. I'm not going to defend Bethesda for releasing the game before it was ready and pricing it at 60 dollars, but I do like the game, and I'm looking forward to what Bethesda has in store for future updates. I think if you enjoy grindy survival games, and don't mind a few bugs, this is a great game for you. It combines survival genre mechanics with the fallout universe, and for me that makes for a great experience. If you do not enjoy survival , and mmo like games, and are looking for a classic Fallout game with heavy story, this game is not for you. I enjoy both types of games, so for me, it's worth playing. Bethesda took my money and left me with swamp itch, radiation poisoning, lag, disconnects, and a remarkably uninspired multiplayer take on Fallout. It looks like a 10 year old game, and feels incomplete in single player and multiplayer aspects. Maybe Bethesda plans to patch this thing up and make it something worth playing, but I am not waiting around to see.

Lots of new enemies based on WV folklore (which i think is awesome!!)

    Quests are bland/dull
    Empty world? (NO NPCS!)
Lore altered to fit to story

So many things in the game just don't work right -- from performance issues and server disconnections to disappearing items and broken bases. There are so many problems within the game that you cannot go a single session -- for ten or fifteen minutes -- without encountering something unfinished, glitched-out, missing, stuck, or whatever. Robots completely disappear in front of you.

Items vanish from your inventory. Bases disappear, can be rebuilt, but are missing key components. Framerates drop inexplicably or hitch at random. Water goes invisible. Objects get stuck in mid-air. Players spawn inside the foundations of buildings or fall through the ground. Exploits for infinite grenades and XP are plentiful. Animations don't sync up with objects. People get deformed by their power armor. Enemies carry weapons upside down and/or pointing to the sky. Shotgun part layers extend outside their frames. Corpses continue to move after death. And more!

The game is so bad that Bethesda should be ashamed of themselves.

There is some fun to be had, but the experience is so heavily overshadowed by the glitches and constant issues that it is hard to enjoy the game. On top of it all, Bethesda chooses to wait to release any patches until December when they should release something -- anything -- right now for the sake of public opinion.

Good luck in your experience with it.

I managed to pick this game up for $40NZD ($27USD) and as long as it is not abandoned I believe this is a fair price.

    Pros;
I love the levelling and perk system. I find the multiplayer more engaging than in other multiplayer games of this kind. Everyone I have come across in game has been awesome to interact with and the emote wheel is great if you don't want or can't use voice, although it can be a little fiddly to use. I find the crafting system is also a lot easier to use then in Fallout 4 and this adds to my enjoyment I actually want to craft as opposed to Fallout 4 where I wanted to avoid it, in addition to this, I find base building better than Fallout 4. The ability to build and move it wherever you want is awesome. Also, it is much easier to do then in Fallout 4

    Cons;
The bugs and performance issues. I really hope these can be sorted out because it is taking away from my enjoyment. I would rate the game at about 7/10 if it were not for these. I find the questing very difficult as well. I get lost and sidetracked often and the lack of NPCs is very noticeable. The lack of content is not a con for me because there is enough here right now to tide me over until new content is released, as long as it is free.

If you are a fan of RPGs and have faith that Bethesda will continue to support this game, it is well worth your time but only for a sub $40 price because I believe that is what it is worth in its current state.
