Spent $70 on the game and I do not recommend others do the same until (if ever) Blizzard decide to make FUN changes instead of gutting every build that has any amount of fun to it. The game has no real way to trade items or currency with other players, yet we are super worried about builds being overpowered and fun. It makes no sense at all. Expand

The monetization strategy has been shown and will likely only be temporarily relieved when game expansions drop, the goal is to keep players shelling $$$ for the season and make the permanent game unbearable and unenjoyable.

The changes they continuously make are completely insane, and often accomplish the polar opposite of what they're trying to accomplish. For example, they said CDR was overly prioritized by the playerbase on available item rolls, so they nerfed the amount of CDR you could get. Hilariously, they could have simply allowed CDR to roll on other items to reduce the demand since the supply would be in more abundance. By nerfing the stat, they've effectively increased the demand, lol.

This recent patch also destroyed any sort of build diversity.

Honestly, I don't even think this team is capable of improving the game, because they simply don't understand it.

    LOL

It really feels like all the passionate gamer nerds that used to make up blizzard have been replaced by corporate drones. So sad to see and experience. Not even considering the patch, what really set me off is the lack of QOL features that are just common sense. A game focused on loot, but extremely limited storage, no custom sorting, no search function, no way to favorite an item in your inventory, no way to refund all paragon points. A game focused on creating and experimenting with OVERPOWERED builds, but no way to easily swap your build or save builds. Bug that lets more people find a unique item? Patched same day…. within hours??

Bug that causes cinders to drop at like 5% the intended rate, effectively making helltides unplayable? Eh they’ll fix it in the next hot fix. No big deal!

    So frustratingly stupid.

It apparently takes them months to add stash tabs but good builds and farming methods are nerfed overnight. Meanwhile they keep talking about the shop and diablo immortal every time the devs make a video. The new score of 0/10 will reflect that.

A little background for me, I'm an ARPG fan that's played everything from D3 to POE to Lost Ark. I preordered the game because I found the beta to be very fun. I've played to endgame and I'm roughly level 66 but have pretty much stopped playing.

    Graphics: 8/10

The graphics are pretty good. The only major fault I can find with it is that everything is a little too gray. The world is very gory and dark, which I enjoy.

    Sound: 4/10

People regularly comment on how good the music was, but I haven't noticed the music a single time while playing the game for better or worse. The sound effects are decent enough, but nothing really stands out.

    Story: 5/10

The story is mediocre but it's far better than Diablo 3's story. If you don't play a lot of games or read a lot of decent fantasy books (to have a point of comparison) you will probably enjoy the story a lot. The cinematics carry most of the weight and are extremely good. There are issues with characters acting conveniently stupid and dumb deaths in order to move the story along, much like in really **** horror movies.

So let's get to the categories that matter the most in an ARPG, the gameplay.

    Character customization: 0/10

Character customization / building is EXTREMELY boring. Once you hit level 25, you've basically unlocked all the actives your character will ever have. After level 25 all your points will go into passives that give you 5% more damage or mitigate 3% damage from elites, et cetera. You only get TWO major options per spell, which is pathetic even compared to Diablo 3, a game that wasn't renowned for its depth. A lot of times even these options are relatively cosmetic and give minor bonuses.

Paragon boards (endgame skill trees) are 98% just boring stat increases, like +5 intellect, +10% damage vs burning targets, etc etc. It looks interesting to begin with, but you quickly realize that it won't change the gameplay at all and each paragon point you get is barely noticeable.

    Itemization: 0/10

Items are similarly insanely boring. "Legendary" items for my class do stuff like +20% damage while you have a barrier up (which will be 100% of the time,) 20% more damage vs frozen targets (which once again will be all of the time vs trash), and other similar ones. There are a FEW that are interesting for some classes, which is why I'm giving it any points at all, but the vast majority of rares, legendaries, and even uniques are absurdly boring stat sticks.

If you've played POE, the items in this game will not satisfy you at all past ~50 hours played. It gets insanely repetitive and boring. There are very few build defining items. There's nothing for your imagination to work with.

    Combat: 3/10

Combat is repetitive and dull, and a lot of it stems from poor character customization. Combat "feel" in general is a step down from Diablo 3, which felt very, very smooth and impressively flashy. As a sorceress, you get a spell called Blizzard and the AOE is absurdly tiny, like the size of a puddle. You would have to cast it 10 times to fill up your screen. Other skills similarly lack impact compared to many other ARPGs out there.

As of right now the ARPG that has the best combat is probably Lost Ark, and if you want a good idea of the difference in combat between the two games, check out what meteor looks / feels like in Lost Ark vs what meteor looks like in D4.

A game that was released 1-2 years too early. Shallow and repetitive gameplay. Endgame content is boring and lacking, a lot of critical bugs, itemization and QoL stuff are bad (the actual list is a lot longer).

Before patch 1.1.0 I would rate it 5/10 as a mediocre product but after the patch notes, I think this is another shady attempt by Activision Blizzard to pump up the numbers at the release of the game, and then start to release basic content that should've been already in the game (during the next months and/or years). In the meantime, they purposely slowed down game play so that other players wouldn't notice how much content actually is lacking.

I am not a hardcore gamer but I'm not casual either, people defending this game, content, patches, etc are the reason why corporations keep doing this.

I am at fault as well, I should've stopped buying anything from Activision Blizzard years ago.
