This is - or was until the first major patch - an okay flawed game with hints of fun and playability. It's also a buggy mess that is mostly getting through untested. It's also painfully obvious that Blizzard is not doing any playtesting before they patch anything.

I played Sorc, so color my words as you see fit.

Yeah, this is gonna get worse.

So... there were problems. Major problems. But D3 had similar problems, and they fixed it. And continued a rotation of fixing and breaking and it was ok - eventually I got tired of it all and stopped but I still put in 2 years in that game, so I got my money's worth. So D4 is going to come out strong, right? Right...?

Well, yes and no - they clearly had some good lessons learned. The game had some great moments at first. And Blizzard was trying to fix some of the major complaints with QoL. Nice!

Sorcs were busted in a bad way - sidekick to the sidekick levels of bad. But hey - balance patches fix everything! And season 1 is coming and that's when we'll see our patch! We eagerly wait 1.1.0

    Well, 1.1.0 dropped.

Holy shirt. They made it worse. They literally took every complaint and ignored them. They made the game mathematically worse in every way. Every build players made to try and cope with some of the bad game designs were absolutely destroyed across the board. The best classes got squashed, and the worst classes got caught in the same crush. Sorcs are unplayable. Poor damage and survivability BEFORE the patch GOT MUCH MUCH WORSE. There's no playtesting being done. There's no thought being put into the game at all. All of the QoL changes we asked for were ignored. There's no consistent benefit to playing anymore - and Blizzard hasn't shown any desire to make it happen. They just want to push the battle pass. Why? Because it's an income stream. That's all that matters to them. Shut up and buy the battle pass.

My friends and I were having fun playing. We aren't anymore. I wasted money on this game.

I am convinced the game was released unfinished. Each patch is a major change to the game making it less fun to play. Instead, they sit in echo chamber meetings to decide how THEY think this game should be changed to. This is why I am saying the game was released unfinished… they have made numerous game breaking changes since release. These changes should have been made during beta and before release. Instead, players grew attached to their play style and blizzard continues to change the state of the game (mostly through nerfs) and devalue the hard work many players have worked dozens of hours to achieve. In my case, I played the sorcerer to level 91. The sorcerer was ALREADY the weakest class dependent on specific mechanics to be even close to the lowest tier of all classes. Since the nerf, the gap between sorcerer and the other classes have widened. The DPS of the sorcerer was cut by 1/5 and survivability by at least 1/3. Recent patches targeted the mechanics that sorcerers were dependent on, now it feels like you are attacking with a wet noodle. Granted, all of my gear is close to BIS. Not even close to the next weakest class. This is a common issue with this class, and blizzard refuses to listen to the community. At this rate, this game will become unplayable. The game is truly beautiful and the mechanics were fun. Even though playing the weakest class (before patch 1.1) it was so much fun. Now that the class is nerfed to a point of being unplayable, it is truly frustrating that all the hours I poured in the game feels wasted. Here’s my warning to all: do not purchase this game, the early game mechanics will hook you in but the (continuous) end game changes will leave you dissatisfied and a company like blizzard have shown that they are unwilling to listen to the community. Whoever is in charge of community outreach should be replaced by someone that can be the bridge between the large player base and blizzard. Instead, there is a huge disconnect between the two. Expand

They literally made the game harder for casual player like me, helltides are harder, xp nerfs. My main character barb got nerfed into oblivion. I don't find this game fun anymore and I the new season doesn't excite me anymore.

Good game. Hoping to see Season 1 to see how the game will turn out

I think that the nerfs are not that bad as people said since we got a lot of buffs of damage. Vulnerable and Crit was too OP. Imagine normal damage is 5000, and critical damage is 1 million. It's unhealthy af. And Vulnerable just straight up giving 20% increased damage, so every builds suddenly have to have a Vulnerable

It's a game that ruins everything. I will never play Blizzard's games again. If you have the money to buy this game, Rockstar's game is a much better choice. Diablo 4 is worthless and too expensive garbage.

The patch today was a steaming pile. I think most people would agree with that. Nerfs across the board never sit well with gamers, especially in ARPG's. But I don't think they understand how "on the fence" most people already were.

As more and more people reached the end game and realized how truly lacking in depth this game really is, the tone amongst Reddit, Twitter, Discord, and Forums started to shift. That was two weeks ago.

The fact is, people are getting bored. This is an ACTION RPG with slow-paced action. It's a LOOT hunter with boring loot. This is an MMO with no social aspects. A dungeon crawler that feels more like a game of fetching the stones and putting them on the pedestals.

The cracks are starting to show in the end game, and people feel like we're playing a paid Beta, you decide now is the time to drop a patch that **** on every build. What better way to push everyone over the edge than to nerf everything?

    Damage? NERF
    Defense? NERF
    Cooldown? NERF
    XP? NERF
    Power Leveling? NERF
    Helltide? NERF

Sure, some builds needed to be fixed, but you didn't have to completely gut entire classes while you were at it. But the nerfs are not even the point of this post. I don't even care about them. I'll adapt and overcome, I'm not afraid of a challenge. But this patch made me really think, why play season 1 at all? You didn't address a single one of the NUMEROUS valid complaints about this game.

6 new uniques? If you think adding 6 new unique items for every 3 month season is an acceptable pace to bring some depth to the sorely lacking itemization in this game, I might as well not play until season 30.

No leaderboards? No in-game trading with an option for self-found mode? No paragon board reset? No Occultist changes? (Cost or listing possible outcomes) No group finder? No stash tabs?

Nothing, in fact. Not a single thing to shine a bit of light on this **** sandwich. You made the game slower. Mobs take longer to kill, and yield less xp, and we're now gated to lower world tiers until the "recommended" (now mandatory) levels of 50 for WT3 and 70 for WT4.

So on Thursday, we're expected to start over, but this time it's all slower, less fun, time & experience gated. And all to get to the end and realize what an unfinished and lacking game this really is. Again. Still.

Maybe if you spend less time trying to "balance" a SINGLE PLAYER PVE GAME WHERE NOBODY CARES ABOUT BALANCE, and more time adding things that are actually fun and immersive, you might sell more battle passes and cosmetics.

    What an absolute joke.

The game is fun. This score of 0 is for patch 1.1.0 which nerfed most everything (which is fine by me, honestly. Im a filthy casual gamer dad) and addressed none of the actual issues in game (which is where I draw the line).

Blizzard wants to make and Loot based ARPG MMO, without a satisfying itemization, rewarding loot and without a social interaction.

It tries to be everything, and fails on every aspect.

A world of versatility and power was suddenly replaced with stifling constraints. The once robust Necromancers, Barbarians, Rogues, Sorceresses, and Druids faced crippling nerfs that stripped them of their former glory.

No relief came from the enchantment front either. The mysterious and potent art stayed as costly as ever, draining resources without a hint of mercy. The fiery Helltides, once swift as the wind, now languished at a snail's pace, mocking the determined players with their sluggish currents.

The art of Boosting, once a glorious race to the top, was crushed under the weight of patch 1.1, now resembling an uphill battle in waist-deep snow. The once diverse gameplay was corralled into Nightmare dungeons, where other challenges were reduced to mere whispers in the wind.

Experience bonuses that were once the spoils of defeating mighty adversaries became mere crumbs, a meager 10% of their former glory. The sensation of triumphant victory against higher-level beasts was replaced with a hollow echo of what once was.

The essence of combat, the critical strikes and vulnerability damage, faced the wrath of the patch as well. Slashed by 17% and 40% respectively, they further dimmed the once blinding brilliance of the game's weapons.

Diablo 4 was not a sprint; it was a marathon. But with the arrival of Patch 1.1, the marathon had turned into an endless crawl through a desert of nerfs, each oasis of fun seemingly further away than the last.

But there was no all-powerful Avatar, no master of all classes to rise and restore balance. Instead, a call to arms echoed amongst the players: It's time to speak up, to say 'enough is enough.' It wasn't about persevering silently or accepting the nerfed world; it was about making their voices heard, about standing up for the game they loved. Because when it comes to the games we play, the hope is not just something we give ourselves. It's something we demand from those who hold the reins. This is the true essence of player power.

I was a sorceress level 97 when they released the worst patch in video game history. I will not reach level 100.

Blizzard is completely out of touch with their userbase and is a completely compromised gaming company at this point. It is so painfully obvious Blizz is squeezing every last penny out of people instead of creating good or replayable content.

I was very excited for this game and it seemed like Blizzard had finally gained an understanding of what diablo players wanted in D3. However they released this game in a regressed state from D3 and with the latest patch they are further showing that they either don't understand what players want, or they just don't care. Very disappointed. I will check back in on the game in season 10 or so.

Blizzard deploys nonsensical patches that break the underlying mechanics of the game and in doing so ensures that it has no long-term playability. Why would anyone invest time in this game if they're just going to casually break whatever you've built to juice some internal KPI with a complete disregard for whether or not it makes the actual game fun to play?

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table.
