After the campaign, the game kind of falls apart. The campaign is good (6.5/10), but I can't see myself playing through it again soon, because I already know all the dialog. The progression systems, character development are really lackluster. The game also feels unfinished (skill trees, itemization, cutscenes always showing the characters from behind after the first 1 or 2...).

in-game Shop (Cosmetics atm but we will see + Cosmetics are not nice too because people pay money for having something that other people cannot have without spending money)

The best thing about this game is the music which is 8/10!
Game makes fun but gets boring very fast.

Face it, this game is SH*T. Bad trash itemization, convoluted mechanics, bland/boring world design. Worthless music, no immersion, garbage story and bosses. Play by spread sheet instead of actual thought, skill and item finding. The list goes on…

Where to start, well first the character customization is inferior to the mobile game they released last year, secondly the graphics look really bland or muted, don't get me wrong the textures and objects look sharp but it just looks like half the colour palette is missing, those who played PC games in the late nineties and early noughties will remember you could toggle the colour depth between 16 and 32 bit, well this just looks like it's set to 16 bit.

As for the gameplay, I'm shocked, it's like they took all the improvements the last game made to the series and just said "meh". There's no option to teleport to party members, there's no pets (to pick up your gold), there's no followers to accompany you, they added a talent tree for "customization" but compared to D3 you have less abilities to choose from, less passives to choose from, and less combinations you can put together as half the stuff requires points wasted in things you don't want/need, there's no cube, etc, it's like they were so obsessed with making new systems they never stopped to check if they were actually any good or if they were just designing rubbish that was inferior to what it replaced.

Then it gets worse, multiplayer with strangers is now forced rather than optional unless you want to just not do some content, there are NO rifts (seriously) so nothing fun to do after completing the campaign. The new legendary system sucks. In the case of the Barbarian there are less builds and variety than in the last game.

Oh and they have added a paid system to the game that gives you better cosmetics/etc than players who don't pay.

Not going to post any spoilers for the story content, but I believe it's okay to say that the final act is very poorly written and contrived, feeling rushed in some places. Playing the previous games I never once found myself at odds with my characters decisions, this was definitely not the case here and I hate it when games force you to do what they want for the sake of the writers vision when it feels totally wrong.

And to add insult to injury they have stated now D4 is out they're not making any more seasons for D3 now, obviously in case players go back there after completing the campaign and realising the endgame is inferior.

I write this review for two audiences, casual and "competitive".

    Casual --
Let's start with casual, this will be easier :)

Note that these are subject to preference, as the game is on the darker side.
    General categories for casual players:
    Storytelling - 9/10
    Visuals and Audio - 7/10
    Combat - 8/10
    Pacing - 8/10
    ------------------------------------
    Overall - 8/10

    Good job Blizzard!

    Competitive --
Now if the above review was not informative enough for you, then you might be in the more competitive category. I'll be frank, I've reached level 100 on hardcore mode, and I've spent many hours theory crafting builds, figuring out power scaling, and farming for gear. So let's get to it.

    Storytelling - 9/10
My review for storytelling remains the same. This is a darker game, so others might not enjoy the storytelling aspects that Diablo 4 presents, but at the same time... If you're playing a game titled "Diablo" then you should probably expect to see darker themes.

    Audio - 8/10
    Good stuff.

    Visuals - 7/10
This is where things become tricky. I come many different games, and I've seen a lot of visuals. There's something unique and satisfying that strong visuals (not flashbangs) and audio can bring to the player. The best example I can use is in Lost Ark, when your character uses an "ultimate" ability - it feels like an ultimate ability both from the sound cue's and the visual effects. Diablo 4 seems to shy away from this, but it's not entirely a bad thing. It's just Diablo 4's aesthetic.

    Combat - 7/10 (combined from Mobbing/Boss fighting)
For ease of review, we can break the combat down into two styles that are applicable to the ARPG genre. Mobbing and Boss fighting.

    - Mobbing 9/10
This is what Diablo does best. The builds you make tend to have speed as their middle name. The faster you go, the more items that drop, the more exp you earn, the more materials you farm, the higher you push your character. With so much RNG inherent to the genre, it's critical that you're farming efficiently - again, Diablo does this quite well.

    - Boss fighting. 5/10
We have a problem here. I will preface this by saying that there are unique "bosses" within the game that have mechanics for a player to learn and adapt to. However, this goes away very quickly when the boss dies in less than 10 seconds flat. There's no real sense of "Boss fighting" in this game, as bosses are basically just another elite pack with more health, or just a means to finish your dungeon.

The way that Diablo 4 is currently made to be played with it's skill usage, does not lend itself well to boss fighting in contrast to other games like Lost Ark's endgame boss fights (or even PoE bosses). There's a certain level of thematic presence that Diablo 4 boss fights are missing, and although I'm not an expert in game design - I can at least tell when a game is lacking.

    Pacing - 7/10
The pacing in this game is able to appeal to both the casual and more competitive player base alike. The game features a level scaling, which matches mobs to your level accordingly. Leveling initially feels comfortable and at ease, while leveling towards the end feels very slow, which is not a bad thing per say.

While some people enjoy chasing the higher level number, the game is much better enjoyed chasing "content" instead of "levels". As you're doing content suitable for you, the levels will come naturally, however there are some nuances to the pacing and scaling in this game that can make it feel bad at times. (Such as unlocking the next world tier when you're 7 levels down, but all of the enemies are now 10 levels higher than you.)

    Itemization - 7/10
The is a subject to great contention. ARPG's always tend to have a random aspect to their loot, and farming for the perfect item for your build can feel either tiring or rewarding, depending on multiple factors.

The tier levels of items for Diablo 4 was implemented quite well once you're more familiar with the system. However the systems used are incredibly and needlessly convoluted. I enjoy complex systems, but I mostly enjoy complex systems when information is in abundance.
For example, you are unable to see the potential roll values for an item affix at the enchanter, why hide this information? Hiding this type of information only makes the game more complex and frustrating for a casual player, which appears to be your main audience, as competitive players will seek this information out on their own.
For the average player, it will be difficult to determine if this next piece of gear is an upgrade for your character, or salvaged resources. Side content - The side content in the game is very good, but I will only ever do this content once or just not play anymore. Overall - 8/10

Read alot of these other reviews giving scores under a 4 and you all are horribly undervaluing the game experience with your negative mindsets instead of looking at what the game is designed to allow you to experience.
Lots of really under polished features that don't have quality of life. gems in bags, no search bar for stash or aspects screen, horse getting stuck on mount, etc. Lots of people with red reviews cover legitimate issues in game but game is still a fun arpg people can play with friends so need more fair numbers on the reviews.

I have looked forward to this game for probably 8 years now and I'm very disappointed.

The core aspect of the diablo series is skill and build variations, combat mechanic and experimenting on different classes, progressing to more difficult content made easier due to your attempts variations.

So for example in D3 you have 6 different hydras, 3 fire hydras and one for lighting, arcane and frost. Making a whole arrange of builds possible as every other skill too has different elemental versions. This is beautiful and makes the game last for years because there is always something you have never tried and you can design your own setup of what ever skills and runes you find best.

In D4 there is one hydra, so that makes you locked to fire (and it last like 4-6 seconds which is absurd). Now I want to be frost, ok so I can't use hydra although thats my favorite skill, or I can but it would just be bad. This is just one example, but every single skill, for example whirlewind, there are not 6 different types of whirlewind skills, there is just one. Imagine playing this game for 3000 hours with the same 6 skills all that time.
There are not even interesting passives like in D3 to back up the builds creating even more unique variations.

So for me, the most important aspect being combat, is quite poor. But for all my friends who have never played D3 and does not play a whole lot, this is probably just fine. For a grinder I cannot understand how people are so happy about it.

My other problem, forced online mode as seen with the disaster of a game Fallout 74, how does someone thinking forcing people to play with each other, instead of D3 where you can decide, because why let people decide what they want to do? You are forced to play with random people jumping in and out of your events, making places lag, doing like 30-50 people events out in the world spamming attack on big mobs where you don't even see what is going on. To me it's just feels bad. Now I wasn't a fan of coop in D3 either, but 4 people in the same world vs everyone in the same world is quite different. Not being able to pause the game ever really sucks and the performance issues connected to an open world of players is not wanted.

Classes, we lost crusader, demon hunter, witch doctor and monk in trade of a rogue and druid. (To be fair some classes will probably be added later, but why not start with as many and add others in the future?) To have less classes at all is madness, even more so removing classes that have been finely tuned over many many years. Anyone with a sane mind would swap the rogue out for a demon hunter any day of the week.

Customization, forcing people to play an obese druid, a giraffe looking necromancer, abysmal choices of haircuts, absolutely no body size, length or width choices is such a strange choice. And of course you are locked with your haircut, skincolor (games are notorious at having different lighting in the customization screen opposed to in-game, for example in LoHogwarts) so if you made a character you are not too happy with, well you have to make another one and level it up again. Also the animations of many of them are so bad, male sorcerer is not ok, obese druid not ok, male necro not ok, the evade spin of the male rogue, not ok.

The graphics, not sure what to make of it, I think D3 actually looks more polished and newer, I have also had a lot of stuttering on a 4070ti+13600k. The graphics can be nice at times, I have tried to play with and without the 40 gb shader pack, I think I prefer without as it runs smoother for me and is not visually that different, I think I only noticed the ground shaders being poor.

Story and characters etc, hmm Lilith is ok but giving a main protagonist 2 different eye colors is a very bad decision imo. What I find weird is that even after doing the story in D3 probably well over a 1000 times, I'd rather do that story again than this. I just wanted to skip this as much as possible, it was a lot of dead time, slow transitions and the cinematics could be ok, but nothing special.

Map-wise I think the way there were Arcs in D3 worked much better and made everything much easier to understand and recognize although maps could be varied. This open world madness of unexplored places with 50% of the map being places you need to jump/climb making your horse useless is quite a poor design choice I think.

I haven't even mentioned the items and the chaos of stats, takes forever to spot an upgrade unlike in D3.

Hopefully this game will be worked on just as much as D3 was. The release of D3 and D3 today is day and night in difference, but they had a lot of the things down earlier on back then, than they have now.

    People giving this 1-3 / 10 and 8-10 / 10 is dilusional, I think 5-6 / 10 is a just rating at this point.

Simply put Diablo 4 is an enjoyable experience for both casual and (some) harder core players looking to have a bit of fun in an ARPG. This review is centered more on the casual side of this but I'll make a note for players who want to GRIND this game out.

    Story
    ---------‐----------
If you are a Diablo fan and love this game series' lore you will absolutely love this game's story. If you are new on the other hand I will say you may be a bit confused but there is something here for you to enjoy if you have someone explain things to you.
I'll say this it's good really good but it's depending on the lore of the series if you don't want to look into that lore you won't enjoy the story as much.

    Gamplay
    ---------‐----------
This is the act of playing the game and working with it's systems. The loop here is challenging but very VERY REWARDING and extremely FUN. It's tough but you can power through it!

The classes are all satisfying and fun too!

Playing the Barbarian you get a satisfying WACK to your attacks that you feel rewarded for!

Playing the Necro you watch as enemies that have been debuffed lose their skin and fall to pieces when you kill them!

As Sorcerer you watch as enemies may freeze and shatter or burn to death!

These are just examples but they have a great loop here and that makes the game worth the asking price!

    PvP
    ---------‐----------

PvP deserves a spot here its an optional experience and is an extraction based "gamemode".......it's better than every other Diablo (Not a big win)......but is unfortunately incapable of being balanced (Daze is stupid in PvP). Players will run from you when extracting which makes you feel like you've wasted your time going after them when they extract and it still let's them extract no blocking the extract. The level differences here are around 10 levels. Levels will win fights by default. Honestly would recommend not playing this as Blizzard said they would NEVER balance it.

    Hardcore
    ---------‐----------

As for hardcore players......this is where the game loses some points class trees are small and provide a decent variety of builds (More than most ARPGs!) but all of your power will come from 50+ and the paragon board which is fun but......can kill the experience when all you're doing is grinding levels. The grind is there if you want it but gear feels sorta rewarding......a unique is always an interesting grab but the scaling takes away from the power progression quite a bit in trade for playing online which imo isn't worth it with the minor changes made for online play.

Play if you want but don't expect POE levels of things to do that may turn you on or off for the game.

    Things to Note
    ---------‐----------

Shop isn't pay to win and the battle pass is not going to be pay to win. Shop is expensive and is not okay price wise. This takes a point off the game as this game is already $70! If prices were normal I wouldn't take a point off.

Game is Open World now which is a great change!

Mounts are to be noted here as the open world is great BUT there are barriers EVERYWHERE which makes traveling unfun in some cases (Sounds like a small gripe but I wouldn't note it if it wasn't worth noting.)

    Summary
    ---------‐----------
This game is a solid 8/10 with minor issues.
Game is a GREAT casual experience as for hardcore there are a few dependencies for entry as endgame is not shallow persay but is definitely a turn off for POE style players. Play it for the story stay for the gameplay!

A lot of people have valid points about things that need to, and probably will be, addressed by the devs. There are a ton of quality of life things that II would probably give this game an 8/10. Here are some important positives:
    1. The game launched relatively smoothly.
    2. We got a game that feels solid and complete on launch (this allows us to engage with the devs on the smaller issues because they aren't scrambling to polish a trash heap, which we tend to see more often these days).
    3. The story is enjoyable and cohesive.
    4. Group play with your friends is great and feels rewarding.
    5. Lastly, and most importantly, I have had a ton of fun playing it.

The future of this game is solidly in the dev's hands, if they play the cards right and keep the game updated, fresh and add good amounts of new content then I can see myself spending a lot more of my time invested in this game. It is insane to me that anyone would give this game a largely negative review. If you can afford it, and have some good gaming buddies to join you, I recommend this game highly.

    - 90% of them are just a chore. No, I don't want to run around back and forth searching for the last Roped up Prisoner that I missed, or going halfway back across the map to loot the You Can Proceed Item to put in the Timegate Lock. It's awful. Dungeon design is awful. These aren't dungeons, they're chores. Let me go into an area and blast. That's it. That is what dungeons should be. Massive hoards of the forces of hell that we need to lay waste to en masse.

    - Input Delay? Lag? Hit Spacebar to dodge, still get stunned/frozen/etc, and then after the CC breaks you use your dodge...?
    - WAY too much CC and WAY too many "Dodge hte swirlies" - overall dungeons are not fun. They are just aggravating. If your build doesn't have 2-3 cc remove/unstoppable abilities it's just not viable.
    - Monster Variety is non existent. There are like 15 enemy types in this game and they're all generic rips from Diablo 2.

    "Item Rerolling/Upgrading"

    - Unable to see possible outcomes (I mean come on this is LITERALLY IN diablo 3 like what???1one??1!)
    - Unable to see roll variance. You get a "3.2%" crit chance on the ring. Is that a "1.2-3.4" high roll or a "3.0-5.8" low roll?
    - Too expensive to reroll gear. It's completely unreasonable. It should be 1/10th the current cost.

    SKill Tree

    - Too small.
    - No choice.
    - Obvious build paths that are designed to implicitly work together...
    - It's almost entirely "illusion of choice"
    - It's not a skill tree, it's a skill twig.
    - Item Aspects need to be on the SKILL TREE not on items.
    - Paragon Board is awful.
    - Paragon board needs to have TONS more boards to choose from.
    - Let us make our own boards. Pick our own nodes. Pick our own glyphs, etc.
    - Glyph Slots are garbage. You need to level the glyph up before it even activates for 90% of them, and their mostly useless otherwise. 2.7% damage to chilled enemies for 7 paragon points? Literally more efficient to just go for 7 +5 Int nodes.
    - Paragon system needs a compelte overhaul to be quite honest here. There are no redeeming qualities or factors. It's just an arbitrary "do more damage" system. There's nothing interesting, build enabling/defining/etc at all. Whoever was spreading these lies should hang their head in shame for the next 10 years.

    Gear/Itemization

    - It's beyond bland and boring. Stack Crit/Crit/Vuln. Get Life on Head/Chest/Pants/Rings. That's it. Or, if you're a dot build, go for "Only Relevant Damage Modifier For This Build Type" instead of C/C/V.
    - 4 Affixes is far too few for a single item to have. Should be at least 5, or 6 if you removed aspects from gear (which you won't because they're just like consumable soulbind glpyhs from WoW - which you did scrap that HORRIBLE idea thank GOD).
    - The mod pool is WAY too bloated.
    - There are no interesting mods or spec altering mods.
    - Where are the damage mods for weapons? Where is the +128% increased Physical Damage + 47% attack Speed stuff? It's all just generic garbage. Other

    - The story is laughably bad. - Level Scaling ruins the entire game. Full stop. - Open World has unplayable amounts of lag, constant rubberbanding, etc. It's just ridiculous - Horse is the dumbest, worst horse I have ever seen. Why does it just not move some times? Randomly gets stuck on a small pebble and stops...?? I'd really like to go into more depth and offer solutions, but I only have 5000 character limit here. The game is aggressively mediocre in every way. It does nothing great, and does most things poorly. The old Blizzard I knew and loved growing up is dead and gone.

Diablo IV is not a good game. It's not horrible or unfinished enough to warrant a score of 0, however it most definitely does not earn anything higher than a 7 either. The main reason for it is that the game is not complete. It was rushed, features were implemented in a way to just work and nothing beyond that.

Combat & gear: Feels good at first, but you constantly hit "walls" in your progression due to monster scaling. They've traded the advantage of partying with anyone at any level (which I appreciate) in exchange for 99% of the game's feeling of power.

Me, Lv. 20, fighting my way through a dungeon. Hold on a moment. Why does it take me 8 seconds of tirelessly attacking a regular skeleton to kill it? I played for hours, I was decked out in all rare gear pieces, yet I was WEAKER than on Lv. 1.

The thing that is holding you back constantly is the level scaling. I could unequip all of my gear pieces and deal just as much damage. Why? Because they only serve defensive purpose. At least most of them do. This shows that the game is heavily centered around legendary powers. But that's not the whole picture. You can mitigate and break through these barriers by blindly equipping the strongest 2 hander weapon that has the highest green number next to it. If you continuously do that, you will not struggle. Forget about damage multipliers, affixes, extra skill levels. They all pale in comparison to raw base damage. Putting together all of your multipliers is something you should only do once you reach the highest world tier when there are no more replacements to get. Of course, this is both a good and a bad thing. The positive is that casual players can easily progress with zero knowledge. The bad is that you get no sense of customization or solving a character-specific problem.

This shows the fundamental flaw with D4, namely that your power fantasy goes down the drain with how the game is composed. Aren't ARPGs all about feeling like a God and mowing down hordes of enemies in the blink of an eye? I thought they were, but it's clear that they went with the slow and tactical approach, which again, isn't inherently bad.

Tiny affixes on gear, problem solving not possible. What are you going to do with 3% resource cost reduction on your gear piece? Your spells cost 1.3 less mana. Invest some more through paragon and another gear piece, you may reach 10%. It seems like they were incredibly greedy with bonuses to make your character feel unique. Usually resource is a problem to be solved in ARPGs. Mana leech, mana on hit, decent CDR, decent RCR, ABSENT here.

Build diversity: non-existent. Every class has only 2-3 viable specs. Incredibly boring. Off-meta builds are not rewarded or straight up not possible due to how tiny the base damage is on the skill tree.

Skills: They played it too safe and brought back everything that we've seen in D2/3. Where is the innovation? Where is the FUN? Where is the craziness? Barb has stab, smash, charge, leap, shouts. Yawn. Where are the skills where he grabs an enemy, rips him in two, applies bleed damage, and tosses the corpse into a heap of enemies? Where is the INNOVATION? Only about 10% of all available skills have some sort of fun or feels good element to them. That's not acceptable.

NERFS? Why are they so obsessed with balance in a PVE game? They have only rolled out nerfs since the beta and some minor buffs for clearly underpowered classes. They did not specify why it's so important to keep players weak within their patch notes. The only ones who will suffer from this are beginners.

Towns: Layouts are horrid. Things are spaced out so far apart. How did this make it to live? It's okay if you do it once, or ten times, even a hundred times. But if you walk from stash to smith to occultist 500 times and it takes you 5 minutes to recycle your inventory, you'll get furious eventually.

UI: Pretty bad. My biggest gripe is how cluttered the gear comparison is with advanced tooltips. Again, they just made it work. They didn't make it better, and even better still afterward. They set it and forget it. Pure baseline functionality is all you get.

Price: Too expensive for an alpha version. MTX too expensive for a $100 game.

Endgame activities are decent and have some variety. The weakest aspect are dungeons due to mission objectives. I just want to slay monsters, stop pointing me towards useless goals.

Too many load screens: 8 seconds to load into a 1-room cellar, way too much. You WILL notice this if you ever try to power farm a specific dungeon. Load to town, load into instance, load into dungeon, 1700 ms latency because region is overfilled. The backend is barely keeping it all together and it shows. Unfortunate. The cost of going MMOARPG.

Story is awful. Strong and courageous females at the frontlines, minority quotas, non-sensical acts. A little girl's fairy tale. A whole lot of trashy non-Diablo plastered on top of a good legacy.

It is a game that allows both casual players to enjoy it through the story and side content as well as the more hardcore audience with the challenge provided later on into Tier 3 and through 4 up through the end of the current content. Plenty of more content on the way as well that can be played both on lower tiers for a casual audience and higher tiers still in the form of full fledged expansions as well as seasonal content every 3 months. Thus, it is a live service game and online.

Visual 9/10 - The game is visually impressive. The best looking ARPG we have to date, the upcoming PoE2 will be up there with it, but we have only a very small trailer to go off for that. Regions are diverse from one another with each zone varying in the regions. Dungeons, albeit the aesthetics recycled heavily in the 115 available, are all well crafted visually and diverse. Cutscenes are phenomenal, both the in-engine and cinematic. Character design is diverse amongst the playable classes. The various armor pieces and weapon pieces are highly diverse and allows great customization on appearance through the transmog system. Returning enemy types have been visually upgraded and the new enemies all look great. Boss design is good, though reused in dungeons, which i'll get to why that's not necessarily a bad thing. Important bosses are all very unique and very impressive from their design to their arenas to their abilities. My only gripe visually is that the camera is a bit close and claustrophobic for my liking.

Audio 10/10 - Aurally the game is magnificent as well. Everything is done to extreme levels. Skill sounds, enemy sounds, music, ambience, music, voice acting. I can not stress it enough, this is probably the only game where I won't skip even side quest dialogue because every character with voice lines is recorded at a masterful level.

Gameplay 8/10 - This is the biggest portion of the review obviously, and the most important. Diablo IV is an ARPG and it plays like a Diablo game. The skill tree is different than that of previous iterations, while still returning the Paragon system though vastly different and improved. You have 100 levels, the first 50 of which allocate 48 skill points to be used, an additional 10 can be earned through side activities earning renown in each region, a total of 2 per, for a total of 58 skill points. Onward, with 4 per level, and an additional 20 per renown, are Paragon points for the paragon system which allows further build customization through simple stat boosts to percentage boosts to resistances or damage output, to rare nodes to glyph nodes to legendary nodes. Some skills are just outright worse than others, but if every skill did the exact same amount of damage, then there'd be zero reason to play and experiment with the various skills, passives, ultimate skills, and numerous aspects in the game.

Now, speaking of these aspects, these can greatly modify your class and builds, from changing the type of a skill to another type for increased synergy, to completely altering it's functionality, and unique items which will further these changes, there's a ton of potential here.

A GIANT gripe I have with people complaining about build diversity, they clearly haven't spent more than 3 minutes allocating random skill points and random legendary aspects and wondered why their build with zero synergy didn't work as much as someone who painstakingly went through and theory crafted builds and posted it online for others. Grow up. Accept that you don't have the capacity for the levels of thought to measure percentages and weigh the benefits of using one aspect in a slot over the other or the usage of a 2 handed weapon over 2 one handed weapons. Personally, I've made it to level 60, a second time on hardcore, with a completely custom Nature's Fury build. It's a lot of work, it takes testing, but it's doable and it's fun.

The campaign is well done, the best campaign in an ARPG easily, let alone probably one of the best in just gaming in the last few years outside of some stellar worlds that have been created. End game activities really begin after World Tier 3, following the completion of the first major test in a capstone dungeon, meant to be a challenge and test players. Tree of Whispers missions replace the adventure mode bounties and shift regions and zones every so often. Nightmare dungeons have, so far at least, replaced Rifts and Greater Rifts from Diablo 3. These are sometimes heavily modified dungeons, with modifiers that can both benefit you and the monsters, these also level up in difficulty, forcing the player to further fine tune their items for survivability and damage. Another capstone dungeon between World Tier 3 and 4 at level 70, and at level 100, a showdown with a reincarnation of the campaigns final boss that is a challenge to face.

    Overall, Diablo 4 is a 9/10, easily.

Meanwhile I will put 8 points because I really believe that they add more and more in features in future patches and seasons, if not I will change it from 8 to 5.

by features I hope it will be:
    1. More complex itemization,
    2. More complex endgame crafting, because at the end the whole idea of this game its all around items.
    3. Maybe some unique league events like in PoE.

    no!

There is nothing similar except for the game trailer for this game with Diablo.

    — Ugly interface
    — An incomprehensible fight with monsters, the style of the game
    — It is unclear why such a large amount of information is needed from the very beginning
    — Permanent inscriptions on the screen that are constantly being spammed
    — I don't understand why I need such a big chest at the very beginning, I want to develop the game and the character, and not get everything at once
    — Tons of extra information
    — Raising the level remained unclear
    — Why would a Necromancer need 4 skeletons at 1 level at once? But what about the development of the game, the character, and so on, as it has always been?
    — Empty locations
    — Boring mobs

Based on everything I've seen, this game is by no means a continuation of the Diablo series, it's some kind of mutant who wants to be Diablo.

I do not advise anyone to buy this game if you are a Diablo fan.

    0/10, total disappointment

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Mediocre at best!

Diablo 4 has been fanfared in the first few days to a week with

    KFC promotions and
songs created for the story by Halsey,
    crap read by MeganFox,
usless stuff that you can buy in real life and in-game

AS IF THE GAME WAS SO GOOD already and it cannot sort to say speak for itself...

Besides all the client crashes and server problems I subscribe to various comments here that point out severe lack of core game imagination from Blizzard topped with many missing - (funny) aspects of an ARPG. The game is boring and linear. I have never played D3 (further then the free act 1 version) and D4 doesn't bring anything adventurous to the genera, not to mention to the legacy.

They (Blizzard) made it so it looks like an open world mmo, with "things" to do and "various" classes to play and "world bosses" that all look like a mobile game if it weren't for the art and design team which are truly and only the one aspect this game has landed where it was suppose to.

I do still play a little but since i got the 90eur deluxe (early access + some cosmetics) version i've almost got very bored of the gameplay, game items, game dungeons that are repetitive and fad, and in over a week.

They could have made the campaign last for the entirety of the lvl cap 1-100 and keep the access and restriction to higher lvl zones so that the players would feel attracted to progress, and on the sideline do activities and special dungeons as an escape from the story line. They could have made all skills be viable and combinations of skills discoverable in terms of build play so that when they say a variety of classes and playstyle, it wouldn't mean a variety of 5 classes with 2 viable builds each.

Instead they made a shame of their name and the most expected game of the last 5 years at least, and a fool of the players who actually bought it.

There are so many aspects this game in it's core is not what it was expected to be but in short especially it's not fun! I'm giving it a 4/10 because the art and graphics design team deserve praise, other than that, rip!

1.)WAY OVER PRICED SHOP items for a $70 premium game (just because other games are worse, they aren’t necessary purchases because they are cosmetic only does not make the price you’re charging ok, and how you have to buy multiple packs and spend more on in game currency to be able to get an item is kind of predatory no matter what big Diablo 4 content creators say). 2.) Having my account banned or locked for several hours multiple times over two days during the week released because of some glitch on their end is not really acceptable in my opinion. 3.) I find it really frustrating that I only feel over powered (not too much but just enough for annoying crappy groups of mobs) in the game for a small window at the beginning of a new character build after getting to unlock your second skill. And that’s due to the scaling…and from what I hear it only gets worse the more you level up because the upgrades to your character are much smaller and farther between levels. So you can go from destroying mobs and elites and then leveling up and becoming weaker which doesn’t quite make a whole lot of sense to me. I understand you want the game to be challenging but it kind of makes the grind feel less seamless and more of a chore (just thinking down the road a ways). I understand you need mobs to scale as to have players be able to play with one another no matter what level they are without making it too difficult for the lower level character or making it so that the lower level character ranks up tons of level fast because they are in a party where someone is level 100 and they are level 5 like in the older Diablo games. But I feel like there has to be some balancing done in that area…to A) still make bosses and elites a challenge…but B) making it still feel worth leveling up and progressing considering leveling up can make you weaker. 4.) I am not going to knock Blizzard too hard for trying to balance over powered and under powered skills. However I am going to knock them for making the majority of skills in classes way worse forcing players to all chose from the same 1-2 sometimes 3 builds. I think all skills should be viable for a powerful endgame build. Because right now it feels like they are pushing each class in one of two directions…sometimes 3 with a single substituted skill here and there. 5.) I like getting to create how my character looks BUT THE OPTIONS ARE SUPER LIMITED! I think for a first attempt at a character creator it’s fine. But for a 2023 character creator it’s SUB PAR. I MEAN GRAY HAIR JUST LOOKS LIGHTER BLACK! The fun color hair is barely noticeable on most classes. I get they want to make them look more natural. But what is natural about a world with sorcerers, Druids, etc with special powers? I sincerely hope Blizzard eventually adds more options to the character creator! Especially the hair colors and styles, face options, eye color (the original creator almost as year ago that some people got to play around with it had not just one fun glowy color it had a whole bunch (glowing orange, yellow, red, blue, etc). Also would be dope if they added in at least 1 more body type to choose from for each gender in each class. I would love to play as an athletic elven looking Druid like Keylith from Vox Machina, a more beefier sorcerer, a more muscular rogue, and so on. BUT I DO APPRECIATE WHAT WE GOT.

BUT all of that negative stuff being addressed and out of the way I have to give Blizzard some props too…
    PROS:

1.) I THINK THE GAME LOOKS GREAT! I personally find the game really great looking. I don’t know what people are talking about. I love how the environments look.

2.) I do like getting to create my own characters though I do have a few gripes with the creator…I do LOVE TATTOOS/MARKINGS, Jewelry, & Makeup BEING CHOICES WE CAN MAKE AND MORE THAN a handful of options. 3.) I actually think a lot of the boss fights are really fun and actually really challenging. 4.) Gameplay feels super smooth & fluid minus a few moments when you go into a large main hub/town area which has gotten much much better after launch.

5.)I think that THE STORY IS REALLY GREAT! the character design for Lilith is so GOOD!

6.) I LOVE BEING ABLE TO PLAY WITH FRIENDS CROSS PLATFORM

7.) I love exploring and stumbling upon random events, dungeons, and hidden chests in the open world. Hope they keep adding more in the future. 8.) I love that builds can be super synergized with the skills you select, the aspects you find, the items you find, and the paragon system. And I love that they are for me the perfect amount of complex and yet still simple enough.

Mediocre, but scratches the arpg itch for a week or two and that's it. Unfortunately, there is a whole lot of parasites and baggage attached to it, that makes me hesitate to even give it a 3/10.

I will start with the company behind it. It's not the Blizzard that made Diablo 2, it's not the Blizzard that made WoW, one of the most impactful accomplishments in gaming history. No, it's a parasite that uses the name and goodwill of mislead "fans" that still support it to push for things, that I don't think belong in an escapist entertainment. I will attach the marketing to this as well, most of it was just brutally unfunny, but using Megan Fox in marketing is not just stupid, (no I have nothing aginst hot women that's not the point) but disturbing and downright creepy/should be criminal, considering what she does "outside". We live in times when this matters, and it should matter to Blizzard as well.

Now for the game. Part of a more than 25 years old franchise, and genre that now has some very strong competitors, compared to what Diablo 2 had to "fight against". This is absolutely pathetic. Not a single aspect of this game contains anything truly new, truly innovative, some might say that Blizzard was never really known for the innovations, much more for perfecting what already existed, but that's a pathetic excuse this game does not deserve. And for those that use the "it's just the initial release they will add it later they don't have the 15 years of added content PoE has", I would tell them to do things that would get deleted from this review. 10 years of development, absurd budget, (100s of millions and I am not even exaggerating) and the opportunity to look at what Path of Exile, Last Epoch or Grim Dawn did, copy it, and make it better with the insane resources studio like Blizzard can offer. They did absolutely none of that. Non-existent endgame, one boss that's basically a corpse rush until you make it. Season 0, and characters already hit for billions of damage. Boring, extremely boring stats that are just % increases. Why are there no class specific stats on items, why is everything just so uniform, every single class has damage to close enemies, reduced damage from distant enemies is that really what the combined brains of thousands of people that worked on this game were able to come up with? Critical chance and critical damage? Really? We haven't seen that ever before... This is not a sequel this is not a new game. It should have been. Stop making excuses for something created by this behemoth of a studio that gets dumpstered in content and creativity by a group of 20 people and a hamster. It's something that "works", which of course it does, it's geared towards a certain group of players and they will buy it. I absolutely don't care about graphics in games, so that's something I am not going to spend too much time on, and probably the reason why I am even going to give it a 3 and not 1/10. The game looks good, the cinematics look good. But everything underneath it is worthless. And that makes that nice coat of paint worthless as well. I am not going to talk about all the "problems" people have with leveling and grind being hard. Games should be hard...but also rewarding. With both gameplay and interesting loot. This offers none of that. Those supposedly infinite different builds are 3 builds (at best!) per class, that use the exact same skills, and pretty much the same, "most efficient", paragon board. Barbarian, for example, has 3 skill slots locked in, because everything else is trash, so everyone uses three shouts. Pinnacle of game design by one of the biggest developers in the industry. The story...exists? I guess? And I love Diablo books and lore. Nothing in this game made me interested in the characters or their journey...

And one last thing. Pricing. Premium priced game (yes 70 dollars is a premium end of discussion) has no right to have microtransactions in it. Absolutely none, I despise everyone that says that cosmetic only microtransactions are fine in games you pay full price for. I don't like them in f2p, but I am willing to stomach that, if the game is worth it. This is not the case, and it's disgusting. Then you have three battlepasses, there are for sure going to be paid dlcs, and the price of those cosmetics is exorbitant as well.

To finish this off. I do not recommend buying this game under any circumstances. I know that writing this review is worthless, and that people will do exactly that. This is Diablo 3 somehow downgraded sideways.

As someone who truly enjoyed Diablo 2 and 3, Diablo 4 is most of what i wanted out of a new Diablo. It's a huge grind and I love it. There's lots of loot and plenty of ways to kill demons. There's few things that can be improved that are mostly quality of life updates like a jewel bag, UI can be improved and a little more FOV. Either way i've been loving this game.

The music and sound design are both fantastic, but that's about where the praise ends.
The gameplay is the same snoozefest that Diablo 3 was. Boring spam skills that you use to keep yourself busy while your other skills come off their insanely long cool downs. The absolute worst game design for an ARPG, yet blizzard insists on being as stubborn as ever with this approach. Path of Exile

I'm not impressed by "open world" games that are open world for the sake of being open world, and I don't think this type of game benefits from that. Sure you get things like world bosses, but ultimately the ARPG is best played with smaller groups in instanced areas, not like an MMO.

I could go on for hours about why this game is a complete failure, but honestly those two reasons are enough for me to consider it one of the biggest disappointments of this year. Just wait for PoE2.

    Bugs ? Not really.
Always Online ? I agree on this one. It kinda sucks. I don't really want to see other players in *my* town and login in to play single player is lame.
Build diversity ? I'm seeing complaints of "there's only 10 builds". You guys are ridiculous. Did you already make those 10 builds ? Do you not expect things to evolve in the future ? Maybe give the game more than a week before dismissing it ?

I get that we want to compare this game with all the great games that came in the past, but you can't expect ALL releases to be significantly better in every aspect than everything else at launch.

Can it improve ? Of course.

    Pros:
    - Story/Acting
    - Classes and skills
    - Control and gameplay
    - Dark world and atmosphere
    - Difficulty on higher levels
    - World activities

    Cons
    - Music is not catchy
    - Itemisation (98% of items are unusable for your build)

    Mixed:
    - Some features are still missing, such as convenient loadout switching.

Side quests 4/10 they are sooo flat... why not having side quests like in Witcher 3., going have to do this each season.... nope.
Group play and PVP N/A I Only Solo.
Leveling, Skills 5/10 way too fast to 50, Way to slow after 50. you have 100% legendries at level 40... ridiculous... I suggest you finish story as fast as you can, if you start exploring you will hit 50 on chapter 1 or 2 and will be a chore to get to Tier 3. Skills are way too simplified like in D3, Paragon board is laughable. Take a look at Last Epoch for interesting skill leveling. They don't understand what Mana shield is all about... a mage skill adding +3 x 3 mana lol...
Mount 6/10 is Gimmick and pretty clunky but can help you get somewhere faster, kills the exploration again...
QoL 5/10 it's ok but lacks...
Gameplay 8/10: feeling of combat is great, but lacks of skill to much Console play in mind so have a very basic skills bar.
Endgame 3/10 Whispers are ok otherwise it would be a 1/10. same dungeons all the time, even rifts we're more diverse! doing it just for adding stupid points on the boring paragon board....
Overall 5/10 if It had not been sold as a Diablo game it would be receiving a 3 by most reviewers.
This game is probably dead after Season one, unless paragon board get's interesting, every dungeon is unique with floors!, has a decent fog of war, has a solo mode, Unique monsters that are like in D2 and D3. I made 2 classes Rogue and Mage and I am done, no interest for the other ones running the same thing again with this kind of super boring leveling system.

The game is rather hard and tedious and you will find that you need to check the web for recommended character builds, as you can't just hoof it like in D3 when everything worked. In D4 if you don't have the right build, you will suffer as the tough mobs like elites and dungeon bosses won't just fall over to your DIY "fun build". Also at least for me personally, none of the recommended builds are fun. Like for example having to keep up shouts as Barbarian. This isn't the kind of game where that's a fun thing to do. Also there are no recommended archery builds, as all the Rogue builds are either melee or trap-focused builds.

The graphics are great, the story is great. The combat...not really, for the reasons I explained above. I enjoyed playing through the story and doing a whole bunch of side quests, but once I finished it, I just uninstalled it. Overall, I think I sunk about 60 hours into it during which I got to level 55, which justified the price, but I won't be picking it up again until the Paladin DLC.

I have played all 5 Diablo games, and when I say Immortal offers far more than D4, it's a painful indication of how bad it is.

    The Good:

    1) It's a new DIablo game.
    2) New story & new areas to explore, and there's plenty to explore.

The Bad (stay a while & listen, this will take long):

    1) The Classes - Blizzard went down the worst-case-scenario route. They copy/pasted all the classes from D2 & charged us full price. As if that wasn't bad enough, they also copy/pasted all the Skills from D2 as well, except they removed a bunch of them from each class and only came up with 1-2 new ones.

To make matters worse, you get less skills to choose from. Add to that the poorly designed resource system where you get 3 spender casts per mana pool, and then you have to spam your grossly underpowered Basic Skill & hit like a wet tissue until you have enough mana to cast another spender.

Class-wise, D4 offers nothing but the same crap we've all played for thousands of hours before. Result = Zero replayability. Brain rot sets in that much faster because there's nothing new to play. If I wanted to play the same crap from 23 years ago, I'd play D2 or D2 remaster. I didn't pay $140 in my currency to play the same old crap copy/pasted from that 23 year old fossil. B-O-R-I-N-G.

    2) Skill Customization: on top of the atrocious copy/paste from D2, you only get about 58 Skill points total. The so-called Skill tree is a jumbled mess of bad ideas. You have a low amount of skills to choose from, and a bunch of boring passives scattered around. Each Skill has 2 further options to choose from as a bonus to it.

Simply a tiny bonus to a state, whether it's resource generation or duration increase etc. Nothing remotely interesting as swapping elements or changing its function, like turning Arcane Orb into Frozen Orb or Scorch in D3.

    3) Itemization: Oh boy. General itemization is quite bland. Then you throw in the so-called Legendaries/Uniques, and it gets worse. Most legendary powers are a total bore, there's barely anything interesting to choose from. Most of them are "do this to get a bonus to *insert random affix*".

Meanwhile the Skills & playstyle stay the same. There's not even a single element swap, nevermind changing the Skill's nature in any interesting or meaningful way.

To make it worse, upgrades are few & far in between, making you feel more underpowered every time you level because the enemies level alongside you and are damage sponges more often than not. It often takes you 2 full mana pools to take out a pack of trash enemies.

Legendary drop rate is extremely low early on for the first 30-35 levels, seems to pick up past that point but it doesn't seem to matter when you're lvl40 and you're still getting lvl25 drops, whether it's from monsters or Gambling. It's absolutely ridiculous.

    4) Enemies: D4 has the most boring Bestiary out of all Diablo games. There's more copy/paste enemies across each region than there are enemies native to those regions. Wolves, bears, boars, bats, ghosts/wraiths, human bandits, Fallen...that's about it.

And btw, you can't fight any of the Act/story bosses again. B-O-R-I-N-G.

    5) Max level: it's 100. Not sure if enemies & events give too little XP, or there's too high XP requirements, but the level grind is an absolute chore if you don't use any exploits. I'm currently lvl57 and I'm this close to uninstalling.

Seasons are going to be a massive flop.

    6) Combat: it's actually not as smooth as D3's even though it's supposed to be a newer version of D3's engine, and it's nowhere near as satisfying. That's even more likely because of terribly designed itemization which turns the monsters into damage sponges, the boring skills we've played for 1000 hours before in D2, and the poorly optimized game.

    7) Endgame: What endgame? Endgame is what you get when you finish the story, and it makes you wish you hadn't. The goal here seems to be to max out all the Region Renown so you get the max amount of bonus Skill points the game gives you so you can squeeze out the last 1% bonus to...whatever.

Then all you have left is grind boring Dungeons over and over. And the timed Terror Zones they copy/pasted from D2 remaster and called it "Helltide". Areas on the map marked red, in which enemies drop Cinders you collect to open Loot caches.

Nevermind the fact that Helltide always ends several minutes prematurely - the timed clock is bugged, and you lose all excess Cinders, but the loot is equally subpar.

What's more embarrassing is that a mobile version has a far better endgame than an alleged PC Triple-A.

Conclusion: This is a massive Triple-A flop. They said "it's not meant to be played forever". Well, you got that right, mister. Not even for a month. They had 15+ years of second-hand experience through development & maintenance of Diablo 3 & Immortal, but they learned nothing. Result: a sub-par Diablo that is completely devoid of replayability.

The game has bored me so far. I've played Diablo 1 and 2 with great enthusiasm for years. Diablo 3 was slow and lacked depth at the beginning but got better with patches. I've been looking forward to Diablo 4 for a long time. My favorite game of the genre over the past few years has been Path of Exile.

I've started with a rogue and played several evenings since release. Usually, I fell asleep within two hours of playing and woke up later in the night, sitting in front of my pc and being logged off the battle.net servers due to inactivity. Combat feels a bit stale and many fights, especially at the beginning, feel tedious. Side quests contain a lot of walking ("Meet me over there!") for no obvious story telling reason. What has happened in the target destination often could have happened at the starting place of the side quest without losing anything. The fights in between the quest destinations often feel like a chore, take long and often follow the same schematic.

A lot of what the game offers has been done before, either by Blizzard or by Path of Exile. So far, the game has offered truly little new to the genre. I haven't genuinely enjoyed Diablo 3, but fighting felt a lot more fluent there (after a few patches, of course).

Overall, Diablo 4 is not a bad game. I just haven't seen a lot that makes it extraordinary or stand out from other entries of the genre. So far, I have enjoyed myself as much as during Torchlight 1 and 2 - games which had no hype around them, were low-budget productions and a bit boring but mostly fun at the time of their release. Diablo 4 feels remarkably similar, despite having a lot more walking to do and offering a shared world, which trades the feeling of darkness and despair known from Diablo 2 for that of a monster-smashing theme park. It doesn't help the immersion.

Finally, this game is probably a 7 out of 10. But as a huge fan of the series, and someone who has played all the preceding games extensively, I've felt underwhelmed by this release. So, it's a 6 out of 10 because I still feel a bit bitter. Yet, I'd love to rewrite this review if the game has a long-term motivation. Who knows, maybe it'll draw you back into the world after two weeks of absence. Until that happens, I'm back to Path of Exile.

Bad mix of a singleplayer game with just not fun mmo elements. You can wait hours for a world boss just to get randomly queued with not enough people and your time is completely wasted. Amazing atmosphere and world though.

The increased price doesn't help either, as there are better games on the market which are either free and have a cash shop or just a one time purchase. The greed is unreal here, requiring both.

It could be fun as a one time single player play-through, but again through activision amazing management of this title, you can't. You can't play offline, and with the lack of resources, not online either. Even after the D3 fiasco they've learned nothing, not with server management, or game design.

Best to wait for the game to go on sale, hopefully it will be polished enough to hold your attention then.

Character Building - Compared to other ARPGs on the market there is no build diversity to speak of. Every class is pigeonholed into more or less one build that's capable of doing endgame content so forget about being creative. Don't hold your breath for Blizzard to be able to properly balance it to open things up either. They never managed to get it right in Diablo III or World of Warcraft.

Combat - You really have to be a masochist to enjoy combat in D4. Combine painful resource management with long cooldown timers and super-inflated health pools of bosses makes for a frustrating experience. It just feels completely tedious at times. I'd also like to mention that the actual combat abilities in this game are borrowed directly from previous Diablo games with nothing new and fresh. That might even be okay if they improved them somehow and yet almost all of the visuals for class abilities look extremely uninspired for a AAA title in 2023. Playing as a sorcerer you have a choice between a blue lazer beam, a white lazer beam or a red lazer beam core ability. Hydra almost looks identical to the D3 version. When Diablo 3 was released in 2012, the spell effects look lightyears better for it's generation than the current iteration does.

Dungeons - Blizzard implemented too many quest like mechanics into the gameplay of D4. Most dungeons require you to do multiple objectives in order to eventually get to the boss room, such as collecting anima from specific mini bosses scattered throughout or worst of all, killing every single monster in the dungeon. This will often leave you backtracking half way through the dungeon to kill the one monster you missed. Compared to it's predecessor where you only had to simply wonder aimlessly the the map and kill a certain threshold of monsters to summon the boss, it feels completely unnecessary and takes away from just being able to enjoy the combat aspect of the game.

Leveling - While the storyline is decent leveling can feel like a slog. You'll travel long distances at times with sparse numbers of monsters while other such as the last act are like an hour long gauntlet of demons from the gates of hell. Some of the bosses can take upwards of 10 minutes to kill. A long and epic boss fight every now and then wouldn't be so bad if there were some perceived payoff in the feeling of power growth, but thanks to monster scaling, there's not.

Overall - Imagine trying to somehow combine the MMO and ARPG genres and taking the worst, most annoying elements from each and calling it Diablo 4. That's what we have here. If I really wanted to grind 10,000 side quests collecting bear arses for some character I care nothing about or backtracking through dungeons, I would play World of Warcraft. If I wanted to run around in circles for 60 seconds waiting for one of my abilities to come off cooldown, I would rather just play a turn based strategy game. It took me nearly two weeks to complete the campaign because everything just pissed me off from resource starved combat to the overabundance of quest mechanics that I would just eventually quit. I did finally finished the campaign out of what felt like pure obligation since I spent $100 on the game and my nostalgia for previous Diablo titles...but this ain't Diablo.

It has flaws - I agree that the power scaling feels weird, not a fan. If we've got a level 60 person and a level 20 person in a party, the level 20 person should be struggling more than the level 60. But it's not really a dealbreaker for me because I just focus on myself and keep on enjoying the fight. I think the store is stupid, but I just stick to the cosmetics that you can find in the game and ignore the store altogether. I agree with everyone saying that there should be an offline option to increase accessibility and for people that don't like strangers passing through their game, but I've been enjoying the online open world format, especially since all the dungeons/storyline boss fights are just with you and your party.

Having played all of the Diablo games extensively, I've been excited for this game for years, keeping up on the all the news, etc., and I think it delivered. It's also been great crossing over to play with my console gamer friends for the first time. For the flaws it has (like issues with barb and necro skills, the setup of the helltides), the developers have been paying attention to feedback and have been really good about responding openly about the improvements they will be making based on that feedback. It's clear that they want us to enjoy the game long-term.

As for how the game is right now: I think it has a compelling storyline, beautiful graphics, and I'm really enjoying the open world. I like the shift in the skills setup, and the mounts make it easy to explore every corner - I'm a playing that likes to get all the achievements, so I've been using the mounts constantly to make sure I caught everything. I've been playing a ton since it's been out, and I'm positive I'll be playing it for years. I'm definitely a long-term player, so that's probably why I'm not quite as mad about the price tag as some people that just want to binge it and then move on to the next game. I'm having a great time, and I've got about 10-15 people I've been playing with (a mix of Diablo veterans and first-time players) who are really happy with it as well.

The gameplay is plodding and the world-wide level scaling means there is no levelling up to get through a rough part and then just exploding through screenfuls of enemies. Just more slow plodding with your undergeared everything.

Combine this with a static overworld, few post-credit activities, no casual party finder, and it is just "meh". There is nothing exciting here and definitely not worth the launch price tag. So save yourself $70 and catch this turkey on sale in a few months.

The immersion is unmatched with the sounds, graphics and overall style combining into a very immersive experience, something that is difficult to do in a top-down game.

The difficulty scaling is rather aggressive, meaning you never really feel the impact of your levels and new weapons in the usual sense of just wiping out enemies that were tough before, but it's also not a game breaker, because it makes sure there is a consistent challenge throughout the experience. The storyline is excellent for a game of this type, with plenty of budget spent on the animated cutscenes and voice acting. It's unfortunate that it was chosen to limit access to mounts until act 3 is over, it does make some rather tedious gameplay of walking across the map being chased by hordes of enemies while trying desperately to navigate to the next mission. I feel like a mount being given at the end of Act 2 would be a better choice.

Overall, it's an expensive but rewarding and fulfilling gaming experience and a very refreshing reminder of what triple-A games should look like on release.
