There is nothing new. There are a lot of things to be improved. Has the know-how accumulated while making the Diablo series been deleted?

MORALLY bestial + boring and repetitive Game

    - initial Price Scam, cosmetics, Battle Passes, overpriced expansions +maybe more to come(pay2win???)
-> weaker people+children getting hardcore exploited!!!

    - ALWAYS the same dungeon runs without ITEMIZATION END GAME!!!

This is not the greatest bitterness (Hogwarts beats everything). But I'm still sad we got it. Moreover, the worst part is that D4 is a scam. Everything that the creators promised we got in the beta. This game looks like the creators did act 1 and then ignored it.

I give this game a good grade. I knew what i was buying and expecting since the beta. it was quite clear back then what to expect and what the Dev's where going for.

The game is amazing, i play it casually with friends and mostly solo. There are many ways to go, from hardcore to casual simple fun. I notice the amount of love and dedication put into the game and what they were going for.

Their quick response to the main questions and complains from people in a stream shows their dedication, especially the time frame they want to get those things fixed.

100 Hours and counting. F all the 0 in the reviews. No one cares if this is not the game you expected. I hate Blizzard management as the next guy but D4 is a very good game and doesn't deserve the review bombing.

After playing the beta, i was expecting a reskin of Diablo 3, but it turned out to be way worse than D3.
There are about a million issues with the game, and i'm not gonna spend a day to try to compile a list. But even with all of its problems, it would have been a relatively fun and enjoyable RPG, if it wasn't for the one major thing they completely butchered. The itemization system.

For me, RPG's are about killing tons of mobs, and looking for rare and powerful loot. Diablo 4 is actually great at the first, killing tons of mobs. Even tho i only played sorc (as usual) i really liked its moment to moment combat. Sadly only a few viable builds, but i guess i wasnt hoping for much more.
But when it comes to the 2nd more important part of being an RPG, Diablo 4 falls flat on its face. Even that's a massive understatement. I dislike the entire itemization system. From the aspects extraction/imprinting, to the power spread of dropped items being binarily(?) gated by the world tier difficulty. But even those issues are not the real problem for me.
Here is where the game becomes truly ANNOYING to play:
I clear a dungeon in about 2 minutes, during which i collect enough loot to completely fill up my entire inventory. Before moving onto the next dungeon, i have to go to town and unload (because obviously i want to improve my character). I spend another 2 minutes in town looking at each rare/legendary item i have gotten. An hour into this endgame loop, of staring at all the "damage to" and "damage from" and other uselessly **** affixes, and their massive ranges, my brain just turns off and it starts hurting. I despise the moment i have to go into town and stare into the void of affixes, it literally hurts. It all becomes a blur.
It should be the opposite, picking up loot should be inducing dopamine, not making me want to close the game.
Here is how this could easily be fixed:
    1. Remove uniques entirely from the game. Stop trying to farm nostalgy points from all the Diablo 2 veterans with the non-existent Shako drop rates. Thats really scummy. Not to mention how useless all the uniques i found are, compared to imprinting a powerful aspect into a rare.
    2. Cut legendary drop rates by half or even a quarter, and boost their affix range rolls to be better than the rares. For example: if a rare helmet could roll 4% - 10% CDR, make a legendary helmet CDR range roll 8% - 10%
    3. Reduce the value of rare items when sold to a vendor, down to 10% of what it is, and boost gold dropped by monsters 5-10x.
Obviously this needs to be fine-tuned, but generally would make picking up legendary items an enjoyable event. Even the Aspect rewards from dungeons will become a viable option, because currently with the legendary drop rate, i had all my aspects collected in no time, without having to go and complete a specific dungeon to get any of them.
Or here is another way to fix it:
    1. Let me set desired affixes/ranges for each item slot as a loot filter or something, and when something matching my wishlist drops, ping my minimap with a green beam or something.
Just off the top of my head, there's probably many other ways of getting around the problem of staring at affixes 24/7 without getting an upgrade for days.
If this tiny part of the itemization system is addressed (even tho its a band aid fix), this game would be 8/10 for me, but its currently unplayable... hence its a 3/10. I am however giving it 1 extra point, only because of the "Diablo 4/10" meme...

It saddens me to have to rate a Diablo game so low, as i grew up with Diablo 2 and its still one of my most favorite games... But even with its beautifully crafted overworld and masterful soundscape, Diablo 4 is a massive dissapointment :(

Great game. Gameplay is awesome, graphics/world is very immersive and, while slow to start, the story was richer than diablo 3, My biggest complaints is leveling and gear seem less rewarding. Realistically I would give this an 8/10 but I put a 10 here to counteract the polarizing 0's on here - I get if you don't like the game but giving a 0 is unwarranted(much like a 10 would be too).Great game. I have just reached the maximum level(100) in Diablo 4. In this review I will tell you why this game deserves a 0/10 score and why you shouldn't spend your hard earned money in this game if you have any self-respect.

I have just reached the maximum level(100) in Diablo 4. In this review I will tell you why this game deserves a 0/10 score and why you shouldn't spend your hard earned money in this game if you have any self-respect.

The game cost in my region almost half a minimum wage, almost double one of the best games ever, Elden Ring. For that price tag I was expecting something out of this world, an experience to transcend my senses and understanding of the universe. Instead we got an unstable release with plenty of bugs, crashed, disconnects and rubber-bending.

The campaign was probably the high point of this game, it is short but has a decent story without the typical cliche of Starcraft 2, where you commit genocide in a galactic scale to save your girlfriend.

After the campaign and you reach level 50, you will start the mid-game, where you will progress your paragon level, which will take you to level 100. After level 80, this becomes incredibly slow, you might wonder, why that happens, and the answer is as shallow as it is sad. The reason is because there is almost *nothing* to do in the late game after you reach level 100, so they must keep you busy doing repetitive content for the sake of doing it.

The game caps nearly all forms of progression after you reach level 100, and the only thing that remains for you to progress are 'Nightmare Dungeons', but your motivation to consume this content becomes null, because there is no noticeable increase in rewards for reaching higher levels, no better gear from it, nothing, void, emptiness.

What starts to make you really despise this game and its developer are all the obnoxious techniques that they use to waste your time. They added a bunch of affixes to these Nightmare Dungeons that are their 'main content' after you reach level 50. The issue with it however, is that these affixes are completely irrational.

Let me explain, some of these affixes to the dungeon are like this: "all monsters have 40% damage reduction against your damage type". Well, why the heck would I ever do such a dungeon?! So you will just waste your time trying to get a different affix, the problem becomes when you want to play with your friends, and then you need to make an affix matrix to decide which combination screw your group the least. This is lazy and dumb to say the least.

*Important: they will release the first season less than 1 month after the game release, where players must start everything from ZERO. I believe this validates my point that they are doing everything for you to stay away from late game, because there is no late game.

Monetization. In the USA, the game price tag is probably $70 to $90 depending on the version, but in my region (Brazil) it costs nearly half a minimum wage. Now imagine, they charge that premium, plus cash shop for, in their own words, '*MOSTLY* cosmetic goods'. And of course, they also add a lot of irrational inconveniences, such as, obviously, insufficient storage space, so they can sell you more space in the future 'seasonal passes' every 3 months. This is just disgusting, this makes me hate blizzard to another level. I honestly reserve myself from expressing my feelings towards this company and their employees to avoid getting into a no flight list.

Blizzard today is the complete opposite of what it used to be 10 years ago, from quality of product to quality of service, it has all gone considerably downhill. No more live chat support, no more phone support, excessively buggy and unstable releases, misrepresentation of products and disrespect of customers. Not to mention all the scandals that have gone unpunished across the board.

These are the reasons why I rate this game 0/10, and recommend that you should not spend your hard earned money in this trash.

All I wanted was more mindless, addicting Diablo 3 goodness. I just wanted more Diablo 3 with maybe better graphics. Diablo 3 was fun. And my avatar was a really hot looking girl with skimpy outfits. Why? Because it is fantasy, that's why. Now I can't even get a female avatar that does not look, well, like a man. I'm not here to be "woke". I'm here to have fun.

The game is so dark. Diablo 3 was fun it was filled with humor. I often laughed out loud. My avatar had the best LOL smart assed remarks. This is like if Demon Souls had a baby with Diablo 3. Diablo 3 was tongue in cheek. This game is just grim. That is no fun to me. Granted that could be personal preference.

The moment I arrived in the first real town, I saw other player avatars everywhere. Sort of a la FFIV. At the moment I tried everything possible to make my game private. I have no desire to see other players in their gear or on their mounts. I want Diablo 3 privacy with no other RL humans around. It was at that point, I decided I dint want to play Diablo 4 any further. And I am really disappointed I had to make that decision. I had very high hopes for Diablo 4. Now crushed. Damn!

Constant and annoying interaction with other players' games. Hey Blizzard, if I just fought a mini-boss for some stupid side quest, and then another player comes along and I have to fight the same boss again, it sucks. Maybe I want to play my own game, maybe if I wanted to play with other players I would have decided for a public game or created my own party, you know, like how it used to be. This is totally stupid and annoying. As if I want to chat up every random person playing the game, or as if I care what they are doing. The monsters are tedious and either too difficult, or too easy. They went back to the skill tree from Diablo 2. Most of the skills are useless. You have to power up one skill to the max just to be able to have some semblance of ability. Everything is a mess. You can have quests from act 1,2, and three all available at the same time. The loot is terrible. The legendary items are terrible and the abilities they grant are also boring or useless. I have gotten 4 different legendary weapons all with the same affix. Boring. I have not even reached level 50 and I am ready to quit. Nothing in this game feels like Diablo. They should go back to runes for weapons an armor. You continuously salvage weapons and get nothing for them. You never get the rare crafting materials necessary to fully upgrade an item. The game is boring. Even more annoying, I wanted the game for Mac because I have always played it on a desktop, but because **** bought Blizzard, they did not release the game on Mac. I have to play it on console (PS4). I guess it does not matter, the game stinks either way. Screw you Blizzard, I am done with Diablo. Not buying any expansions, never going to waste real money on in-game purchases, not going to give Blizzard any more of my money ever. You RUINED Diablo. Congratulations. Expand

    -No minimap overlay
-Level scaling. WTF really. You want to feel mighty and powerful? Blizzard-- "No, i don't think you will".
I am a seasoned ARPG player, and this is actually a game killer for me. No other game made such a horrible decision.
    -The mount
-The stash, 4 tabs are not enough.
-Skill branch, not tree. There is literraly no freedom. Few skills are good, if you don't use them, you're crap. (ex. Barb is not viable without shouts)
-Cannot spam anything. Every skill is behind a freaking cooldown or a ressource cost so high, you can't sustain them, unless you get the item you're never gonna get, because you don't play enough!!

The game offers nothing for casual. They say the game is aimed at casual but no, this game is not fun for casual. You have to grind forever to get items and most of them are bad or useless for your build.

    GIMME A TRADE SYSTEM!!!!

Nothing makes you want to play the game. If you're done with the story might aswell uninstall, unless you want to grind the living hell out of it....which is anti-casual.

So much time and effort and money, still cannot make a game better than POE, Last Epoch, D2 or EVEN Grim Dawn. I legit had more fun playing Victor Vran than playing D4.

I feel like Blizzard starts anew everytime they make a game instead of looking around to find what's fun in other games.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay, let me justify my score with my experience so far.
1- Blizzard is being blizzard and move into nerfizzard. The information about most of the broken builds was released with the release of NDA of "close beta" and they did perform a nerf after idk 36 hours? From my point of view this was just another jump start to their "content creators" which has access to closed beta (full game) they could do those "balancing" beforehand even before game launches.
2- They often referring this is a "arpg" game and not a "mmorpg" game but playing this game as a single player is only punishing. If you play with a pair you can reset dungeons instantly, once we had a reset dungeon button but its long gone now. I know they just stated that this function was harming the hardcore experience but they could just add a delay to it no? Also while playing multi player you can split and even you cant benefit 5% xp bonus you can still get xp from mobs that dying further away from you. Oh also they're "balancing" elite mobs in dungeons after 9 days of release. But I'm pretty sure that they're doing this it's because most of the experienced people already leveled up to 100 more than 1 class also most of the information is spread around the internet. So change my mind.
3- They're still under influence of gaining huge sum of money from diablo immortal, they didnt gave us a proper game to play yet they're working on further expansions already, which are going to cost us money. So, I think that their greed is still affecting their decisions.

I love Diablo IV because it has fixed all the issues that were wrong with Diablo III, while also managing to incorporate many of the great qualities of Diablo II. I don't have much time to play the game with my job and extracurricular activities, but when I do I enjoy it immensely. I'm giving it a 9 because although it's great, there is still room to improve. It's not too complicated, while at the same time being challenging when needed. Also, the couch co-op is what sets this game above the rest. Maybe people would be giving it better reviews if they had friends to play with. Doing anything alone for long periods of time is enough to make someone hate something such as a video game. When I'm able to play, I enjoy playing for long periods of time, then when I'm getting irritated or burned out I go outside, work out, and maybe even touch grass. This hard reset really helps to keep me grounded and reminds me that it's just for fun. There's more to life than this game, or any video game for that matter, so I'll enjoy it when I can with the friends and family that will enjoy it with me. Expand

the leveling, the journy in this game is the goal therefore the arguments of slow leveling after 60 are meaningless because you are already in the endgame.

This game has been modified to the point where it’s no fun. Blizzard’s officials don’t like the players at all. The previous elite monsters have all been changed. It’s okay if the PvP mechanism is bad. There’s no way to play PVE well. It’s really bad.

Im old, played Diablo 1 to death when in my teens, enjoyed Diablo 2 and somewhat appreciated Diablo 3. Now, Diablo 4 is something else: a true gothic masterpiece (on the art side) with absolutely solid gameplay and the best UI job I have ever seen on a PC game.

TL:DR - Improved visuals and atmosphere, insufficient depth for a great ARPG.

Diablo 4 returns to the more grounded gothic theme of Diablo 1 and 2. The game refines the visual aspects and atmosphere of those games. Equipment looks great, towns and terrain contain richer details and the general atmosphere is immersive. Animations for melee, spells etc. are fluid and natural which lends to a smooth combat experience.

However, when it comes to the underlying game mechanics, there is a clear lack of depth. Diablo 4 has not fundamentally changed from Diablo 3. Much like Diablo 3, Diablo 4 does not excel in any key area such as itemization, character builds, crafting or interesting and diverse enemies. All of these issues culminate in a shallow end game for the more dedicated players where the sense of progression is lost in the simplicity of the game design.

Itemization is lackluster. There exists only a handful of uniques. The majority do not provide any interesting mechanics, abilities or stats that would define or at least significantly change the way a particular build or skill operates for a class. Normal (white) and magic (blue) items are made almost immediately useless as there does not exist any mechanic that would allow these item groups to be used as bases for crafting. There exists no set items, class-locked items, runewords (or similar system for socketed items) that could provide further character customization. Item bases also have no meaningful differences (e.g. a plate helm and a cap have the same defence values if they are of the same item level). No stat requirements apply either to equip these items meaning that you do not have to consider for example your strength or dexterity values when making item choices.

The lack of character customization is further amplified by a lack of stat depth. By ‘stat depth’ I mean that desirable stats are homogenized across all classes (e.g. all classes need vulnerability). The pool of stats is also too streamlined. There exists, for example, no magic find, block rate, accuracy rate, faster hit recovery, faster hit rate, life leech %, prevent monster heal etc. CC reduction is compiled into a single stat (Control Impaired Duration Reduction) instead of being divided into different categories such as Cannot Be Frozen or Reduced Poison Length. The simplicity causes a negative feedback loop on itemization and character builds.

A positive aspect is that Diablo 4 tries to introduce mechanics that allows the player to use several abilities during combat instead of repeatedly spamming one or two abilities (e.g. D2 blizzard sorc or Zealadin etc.). Unfortunately, the simplicity of the skill tree in combination with a paragon board that appears to be a much more streamlined version of Path of Exile:s skill tree simply doesn’t lend enough complexity that would allow for a higher level of character customization.

Mob diversity is too constrained. You will, for example, see the same red ghosts in many areas with no distinctive features from one another. The lack of distinctiveness is amplified by the game’s level scaling. The scaling causes the player to experience a homogenized world. There is no clear separation between different areas with key mobs at certain power levels that you can associate those areas with.

In summary, Diablo 4 does not really stand out for players that are looking for an ARPG with some depth. It does not have to be a copy of Diablo 2 or Path of Exile, but this streamlined, consolised bastardisation of the original Diablos will make any dedicated ARPG fan left feeling bored after the novelty wears off post-campaign.

You can still make the game hard without level scaling. Oh hey Diablo 2 was groundbreaking, lets never do anything like it again. Essentially makes it pointless to play the game, a level 5 will out damage a level 60. Looks pretty stupid and makes it pointless to play. No feeling of progression or accomplishment. around lvl 50, you are basically getting to mid-end game as they are no different. You have nothing to do there, it's like doing the same thing over and over, just you can choose - farm nightmare dungeons or go normal dungeons for better exp. Nightmare ofc gives you some upgrade for your glyphs, that's why I went for it, but still going to level 100 is a pain and doing normal dungeons to make it quicker will reward you with plenty useless items as it will drop plenty of sacreds instead of ancestrals.

If you go nightmares you can basically finish your build around 80 lvl, then a week of farming can get you nowhere, so finally when you are about 100, you have a chance to drop shacko, but who cares about it at this lvl, nobody wants to farm anymore. Why for? There is no trade system so those items will be useless.

I arrived to lvl 84 and plenty of my friends stopped playing already around 70. Game has nothing to offer after lvl 50-60, just more farming for no reason, as you can't trade those items.

    That's how bad it is.

It's a dull, boring and 100% soulless product. Yes, it's a product, not a game. They tried to make it gore and dark -- cause of Path of Exile I suppose -- but failed. Atmosphere is gone. Mystery is gone. Somehow they managed to turn the game about fighting the hell into a snoring fest. What an achievement!
No Matt Ulman (so screw OST, I can not remember a single tune from D4 already), no good story, no meaningful characters. Powerful women all along the way again. And dumb and boring male characters. And Inarius is nothing but a miserable idiot. Sure thing.

Besides modern vibes -- it's just a milking cow, a twisted nostalgia trip, a pinnacle of marketing research. But not a game.
Skills are few and boring. That Prime Evils chore and SOULSTONES again... really? And all that hype about endgame? Man, I'm not paying for that thing in an endgame. Everything I've read about this game hypes up the late game/post game content, but you have to spend tens of hours to actually get there and if this is how the game goes in the first 10 then I really don't trust that the endgame is actually fun even if it's better than the slog of the beginning.

Best game 2023. Great combat, good story, lots of builds available. Good controler support tho some abilities like shadowstep are unplayable on controler but different builds are available.

Then there is a massive amount of speed missing. This means that in a dungeon where you are 15 minutes: about 5 to 6 minutes running around without fighting. Wtf. Then fighting itself is so sadly boring. As a sorc: Teleport in, cast frostnova, kill at least one enemy to create a chain reaction which clears the screen (and further as long as there are enemies which freeze other enemies when they cast a frostnova on dying). Then wait a few seconds because of cooldowns on teleport and frostnova and then repeat and so on. Damn is that annoying. And I knew that Blizzard will mess up, but honestly, the fights? Really? Didn't expect that. Whirlwind as Barb is really ridiculous. The sound it makes when hitting enemies, lol. No real feeling of controlling pure might as in D3. There the barb felt like a force of nature and everything felt like hitting so hard, that the ground shakes boom boom boom but D4 barb is like a toddler slaming his squeaking toy hammer on a pillow. Big disappointment. So you do the campaign and the dungeons which btw are boring as hell, then what? Skills also very limited along with the legendary aspects. Good graphics are not enough guys.

Im giving it an 8 out of 10 which would be a 9 out of 10 when they release the PC version because it is so clearly made for console that its painful. Yes, there is almost no stash space, Gems take up the same slot a 2h xbow does, renown farming allegedly is being addressed this afternoon by the devs but I swear to G if I have to redo all of that bs I will STILL being playing this game because it is really fun! I've gotten to 80 then basically killed my character farming mats for cheat death procs and I wasted no time going again and am now 86.

I understand why there are a lot of negative reviews, I'm sure some of the objectively do not like the game, but the majority here of these 0's I kinda gotta laugh at, this game couldn't be a zero if it tried and marking it that low is generally a sign of git gud (not everyone, but most). If you only focused on the bad things I could see a 4 outta 10 but the base game, the cinematics, the fluidity of the gameplay (which still can use a lot of work) makes it a solid purchase, even though the price was a bit high.

    BUT AFTER....
I don't thing that the Lilith statue collecting can be called as a content. it took me nearly 2 hours / zone to collect them. Honestly i think if anyone would care about the game they would place them at the end of each dungeon so at least there would be a reason to go through each dungeon. But at this point i guess none of you beated every dungeon. not even half of them. There is absolutly no reason to play 85% of the dungeons without sigils if you play just 1 character.

    About the mount...
I understand that riding in the openworld is for making each of the a**holes amazed by the visuals of the game. however. I found myself really annoyed after i had to ride 1-2 minutes (bonus: loading screen) to reach every sigil dungeon i want to finish. For a player who plays the game minimum for a year and if you play at least 10 dungeon a day we talking about 100 hour of pointless riding. This is where i miss the good old Diablo 3 option where you can go right from the town into your dungeon. Ofcourse not talking about the horse cooldowns and all the pointless blockades on the road boosting up your time in the pointless ride. Also the horse handling can be felt exactly it was never designed for PC but it works "SO ITS OKAY FOR THEM"

    Lagg issue...
Some people moaning about the game for being "FORCED ONLINE" and experiencing lagg issues.
ofcource these guys never understood and never will that how game engines works. This is not server issue. not internet connection issue. Lets call it a "game issue" since objects and terrain in a distance loading while you travelling and getting closer. A single player option doesn't going to solve your problems. You just can't deal with poorly optimalized early access games because that how i can call Diablo 4.

Overall the game is really good until you level up. And becomes boring super quick after the campaign end. Blizzard should understand that grinding dungeons is not an option to keep players busy with their game. I understand they have to make people spend much time as possible in the game because thats the profit. Its the same what Path of Exile does. but in Diablo its pain in the a** without content. Players need much more interesting things to do or they will go into the next game asap.

    Scaling...
The strenght of mobs on scale is insane. the higher your level, the weaker you are. i have leveled 3 characters up to 70 until i accepted that the characters are okay. but its the game f*cks you.

in my opinion Blizzard should figure out how to make the game enjoyable at max level because I dont even have a reason to level up for... What jobs to do when im above at least level 90? Just beating the sh*t out of higher level mobs? Even 3-5 player dungeons would fix this problems with world bosses on the end.

My biggest disappointment was the necromancer. I had big hopes about having an amazing skeleton army as body guards with MAXIMUM amplifier to cast. But in this game the minions are weak af. And you are their body guard. Their damage is low. their health is low. They don't give a sh*t about mobs until you ain't got attacked. And theres a legendary what gives increased damage to minions but only after they are alive for at least 10 sec. So literaly this legendary bonus is completely useless on Act end bosses with one hiting your minions. In dungeons you have to heal them with skeletal priest to keep them alive. while the big damage dealer is YOU with bone spear... Dealing more DPS than all your minions together.
    AND WHERE'S THE PALADIN???

On the current state of this early access game, spending days with it i can't give more than a 4 or 5
It needs another 4 years to be playable.

Expand

After having my hands on this game for a bit, and reading some of these reviews, it's pretty obvious a lot of people jumped on the bandwagon to review bomb this game after asmongold made a video about the review bombing.

This game isn't diablo 1-3, but I wouldn't even call it anywhere close to being like immortal

GRAPHICS AND HOW IT RUNS: I currently run a High Performance rig and limit my FPS to 60 overall. The graphics in this game initially looked a little watered down compared to when I played the beta, but I contribute this to the fact that I just didn't play a lot of the beta. This game does not cause my computer to run warm at all and I stay at that solid 60 FPS on high.

STORY AND CHARACTERS: I will probably come back and edit this later, but so far the story has my attention, with that being said I haven't run into anything that bores me other than some of the characters, something about their accents and dialogs just doesn't fit right to me.

GAMEPLAY AND MECHANICS: They reduced mob density by a large amount in this installation. Honestly, I am completely okay with that. It feels better to kill a few more challenging enemies than thousands of small enemies I would just one shot. This also makes the way you build so much more important. Do you wanna be able to kill something quick? Obviously. But some bosses just aren't build around you being able to do that so you actually have to think instead of mindlessly attack enemies.

Overall, I will provide updates to this review but wanted to put something honest out to float around in the sea of people complaining about lag or their connection problems, I have not had a single problem logging in and staying logged into the game other than initial release. I do not mind this being what I guess would be callee a "live service" game. Most of us have internet nowadays anyways.

TLDR: It's not my favorite game right now, but it's better than what a lot of people are saying it is.

The score difference of this game on metacritic has to do with new business practices of companies giving a taste of the game and expecting reviews to be in within the week. That means all “professional” reviews are reviews written during the Honeymoon phase of a game, and not after thorough playtesting. In addition, it is unclear which "professional" reviewers are being sponsored or not.
Players are not organized to compile reviews and complaints. It is for this reason I have taken up the task in an attempt to unify the complaints in a single document.

I have collected and compiled the issues players experience with Diablo 4 as voiced on several online platforms in below google document. It is lengthy, but can be navigated by heading.

It outlines issues players experience with the game in an in-depth fashion. Inevitably the review is coloured by my own opinion. I hope this review will give context to the poor player score of the game.

They keep nerfing builds and dungeons and it feels like the only goal is to take the fun away from everything that ends up being useful or efficient.

The walls in the world that force you to dismount is simply ridiculous and the mouse system should simply not exist.

Nightmare dungeons are underwhelming because EXP and loot is just a waste of time.

The stash does not work, not enough space, no GEM pouch, no ASPECT pouch, no character stash, no filter, no search tool and no sorting feature.

The viable builds are very limited since everything gets nerfed continuously.

The loot system is not great and with no stash space its even worst, and drop rate is not rewarding for doing harder content.

The scaling should stop at some point because you're just chasing a carrot on a stick all the time.

Respecing is the WORST, there is no refund on paragon points ( you have to manually refund each point all the way back to the beginning ) there should be a build tab where you can keep your builds and switch because otherwise respecing is a tedious task almost like you should only play your character with one build in mind and that's it, keeping all the gear and and aspects needed for a respec is annoying, and with limited stash space its just worst.

the game could be very fun but they want to focus on making you grind for hours to achieve stuff than to make you have fun for hours because you enjoy playing.

Nerfing every dungeon and farm spot is not a way to make players go aaah well gotta play the game longer now its just a way to make players feel frustrated and know that now they must waste a lot more time to get the same goal they were already working on.

Blizzard could do way better but I think they don't even play their own game and don't care about the majority casual players they just want the hard fans to stay in line and not "beat" the game too fast .

The game, over all, is "okay". If this was some standalone new franchise that would be fine, but I was expecting more than just "Okay" from Blizzard. I'm disappointed they kept the D3 style combat system and I'm not a huge fan of skill tree. I really wish they would have gone a different direction with the itemization in the game too, maybe taken a hint from how popular D2R was? Guess not...

I have complaints about other game mechanics and choices, but I could have looked past pretty much all of it if the story was amazing like I've come to expect from Diablo. Unfortunately it just isn't. In fact, it's probably the worst part of the game. The story, in my opinion, is garbage. Unacceptably weak and flat for a Diablo game. Even with all the issues I had with D3 when it launched, at least it had a good story. I've seen lots of people praise D4's story, and it's absurd. D4 makes a mockery of the story, and characters, that has been built up over the previous 3 games. It just throws all the previous lore away, hand waves, or just downright ignores so many things to try make and this joke of a plot make any semblance of sense at all.

ALL the mechanic and gameplay issues could pretty easily be fixed, and honestly might be, but the story? I doubt they're going to change that... It seems very obvious to me that they really didn't care much at all about the game past it being one more thing to make a few $$. In the past, Blizzard was probably one of my most enjoyed game studios, but now I'm not sure I'll ever bother buying something from them again. I'm still playing the game, hoping that I'll find SOMETHING there to make the cost worth it, but I definitely regret paying the price to play this.

Blizzard is so nostalgic and emotional for people and after failing for so many years people are so desperate for Diablo 4 to be a success to the point where they have fooled themselves into thinking this is good game. Diablo 4 looks pretty, It has great cinematics accompanied by a story that makes no sense at all and it is a bang average ARPG at best.

While being average isn't bad, the $70 price point is the highest entry point for any other APRG on the market in addition to having an obscenely priced cosmetic shop. The endgame is so flat, even when compared even to ARPGs in early access. There is a lackluster trade system, Blizzard tried to turn D4 into an MMOLyte but, offer the most anti social MMO I have ever experienced.

I really hope seasons can save this game but, with a promising 2nd half of the year for RPG enthusiast and a promising 2024 I'm not excited at all by seasonal content.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well the game started strong but once you finish the campaign and get over the honeymoon phase everything is different. Here are some of my pros and cons for the game

    Pros:

The Campaign is fun but Lilith is a bit overused... Every scene is Lilith did that Lilith comanded that etc,

The music and soundtracks are amazing.

Graphics are good and skills feel smooth to use.

The zones feels unique and fun to explore.

The nostalgia bait is real. I like that you returned characters like Mephisto, Duriel etc.

    Cons:

The late game is boring. There is no point in doing Nightmare dungeons once you level up your glyphs up to 21.

Dungeons are boring there is like 7 dungeons in total the cave, the frozen cave, fort/castle, the tumor demonic cave, and missing 1 or two.. Literally coppy/pasted all over the map. Also the objectives are pointless and just busy work for the sake of busy work once you doo all of the archetypes of dungeons you have done them all.

Renown is boring to farm. Dont lock power in collectable/exploration content. If i have to redo all of the Renown grind again in the season i will just quit the game it was okay to explore the first time but half way done i was already tired

The Paragon board is just plain stupid. Whats the point of having such a big and somewhat confusing branching tree when 90% of the nodes are 5 stats.

Glyphs are overpowered making gear upgrades to feel useless.

Why ugly cosmetics cost 25$ in 70$ game (and yes the game is not worth the 70$ price point)

There is literally no balance in the game 14k life 16k armor and who knows how much dmg reduction and getting one shotted by archer that i dont even see on my screen.

There is to much pointless stats. Whats the point to have 3 - 4 different types of close damage, range damage, core damage etc.. Sometimes simpler is better.

Constant nerfing on everything making classes weak and unbalanced. Instead of nerfing everything start buffing and balance thing.

What is the point of Capstone dungeons when somebody can just carry you. Make it challenge that you have to beat.

Stop trying to appeal to everyone. You cant satisfy every single person in the world. Choose your player base and focus on that... Decide for who is this game made... Casuals, Diablo fans, Hardcore games.... When you try to be liked by everyone you will just bee disliked by everyone. Take for example FromSoftware and their Dark souls series.. For years they make games for their core audience everyone else was crying for, easy mods more accessible etc. But they stick to their core fanbase and fans and in the end they got rewarded with breaking record hit.

Potential con: I know i know they said 5324 times the cash shop will be cosmetics only... But i know i just know in couple of months we will start getting paid stash tab, character slots, exp boosts and who know what else... I paid 100$ i will pay like 100$ more dollars for expansions and yet the game have business model of free to play game.

I am long time Diablo fan and i really hope this game will become good.. The base is here just need a lot more work... Right now if you are Arpg lover and Diablo fan i cannot recommend this game.

Incredible game. I've been a fan of all the original games except for 3. And this game has been far better than I thought blizzard was capable.

It’s almost like Diablo 4 developers are consciously fighting against everything that made classic Diablo fun. [Issue#262, p.80]

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.

The best Blizzard launch in a long time and a worthy game to be called Diablo.
