Title: A Triumph of Dark Fantasy: Diablo 4 - an Unforgettable Dive into a Grim World

    Review:

Diablo 4 is undeniably one of the most anticipated games of the past decade, and I am thrilled to say that it lives up to all expectations. The latest chapter in Blizzard Entertainment's legendary series not only surpasses its predecessors but also sets new standards for the action RPG genre.

Right from the beginning, Diablo 4 captivates with its deep and immersive story. You find yourself in a dark fantasy world steeped in darkness and chaos, bearing witness to an epic battle between good and evil. The meticulously crafted narrative comes alive through stunning cinematic scenes and top-notch voice acting, infusing depth and emotion into the characters.

The gameplay in Diablo 4 is on a whole new level compared to previous installments. Every strike, every spell cast with smooth and realistic animations, delivers a sense of power and satisfaction. The character progression system offers a vast array of abilities and combinations, allowing players to create unique heroes that align with their playstyle.

The world of Diablo 4 breathes with life. Each location, every corner, is infused with an atmosphere of darkness and terror. The diverse landscapes and intricately detailed environments immerse you in a realm of grim fantasy, where every step can be your last.

Diablo 4's multiplayer mode offers unparalleled opportunities for collaboration and competition. You can join forces with friends to take on mighty bosses, tackle challenging dungeons, or engage in thrilling PvP battles. The seamless online integration ensures a dynamic and engaging social experience.

Visually, Diablo 4 is a feast for the eyes. The graphics are stunning, with meticulous attention to detail, realistic lighting, and breathtaking visual effects. The art direction perfectly captures the dark and gritty aesthetic of the Diablo universe, enhancing the overall immersion.

Furthermore, the soundtrack of Diablo 4 is a masterpiece in its own right. The haunting melodies and epic orchestral compositions amplify the game's atmosphere, evoking a range of emotions from awe to spine-chilling dread.

In conclusion, Diablo 4 is a triumph that exceeds expectations on all fronts. It delivers an enthralling story, engaging gameplay, and a captivating world that will keep players hooked for countless hours. With its impeccable presentation and a wealth of content, Diablo 4 is poised to become a modern classic in the action RPG genre.

The game is very good and had one of the best launches this year if not the best.
Story is good, gameplay is perfect, ITEMS are so good and there is lot of items that you can chase and a variety of builds that you can run and try.

There is some micro transactions in it but can be totally ignored since they are only cosmetics.

Overall, the game falls short in several areas, making it a disappointing experience.
The concept of level scaling is flawed, as players consistently feel weaker after leveling up unless they acquire new weapons. This undermines the sense of progression and leaves players questioning the purpose of leveling. Furthermore, the lack of mob density in the early stages of the game dampens the excitement and exploration.

Itemization is another letdown, as the focus seems to be solely on acquiring higher numerical values rather than hunting for unique and interesting items. With the existence of a global loot table, the open world becomes irrelevant, reducing the sense of exploration and variety. Additionally, as players progress through the world tiers, lower-tier items become obsolete, making their continued drop rate puzzling and frustrating.

Furthermore, the game's item progression system suffers from a lack of balance and pacing. Once players reach a higher world tier, they are suddenly flooded with higher rarity items within a matter of an hour or two. This rapid influx of powerful gear provides a quick dopamine rush, but it also diminishes the sense of meaningful item progression. The problem becomes more apparent when players remain within the same world tier for an extended period. During this time, the advancement in item quality and effectiveness becomes almost negligible. It creates a stagnant experience where the excitement of finding better gear is greatly diminished.

The skill system also suffers from imbalance and lack of coherence. While percentage damage from equipped weapons may work for certain classes like barbarians, it feels out of place for others like sorcerers. This discrepancy in skill mechanics undermines the overall cohesion and strategic depth of the gameplay.

The user interface is another weak point, with inconsistent quality. The skill tree is unreadable, impeding players from making informed decisions about character progression. Furthermore, the item description tables suffer from poor design choices, making it difficult to gather crucial information about items. The overall design and visibility issues significantly detract from the user experience.

The Paragon Board, intended to provide additional customization options, ends up feeling repetitive and lacking in diversity. The emphasis on percentage damage, resource bonuses, and generic damage increases results in different classes feeling remarkably similar, reducing the incentive to experiment with different playstyles.

In terms of monetization, the game's release strategy raises concerns. Claiming a premiere date of 6.6 and offering a $20 Early Access option merely four days earlier feels disingenuous. Furthermore, the offer of Early Access for a short duration of only four days diminishes the value of the additional payment. It appears as if the intention was to capitalize on the fact that June 2nd fell on a Friday and June 6th on a Tuesday, maximizing profits rather than providing a genuine Early Access experience.

Overall, these practices cast a shadow on the game's integrity and consumer trust. Players who paid $70 instead of $90 were not given a true premiere experience but rather what could be considered a "Later Access" to the full version 1.0 of the game on June 2nd. This approach undermines the expectations and fairness associated with Early Access models, where players typically support a game's development in its earlier stages. As a result, the game's monetization strategy leaves players feeling exploited and dissatisfied.

In summary, the game suffers from a lack of complexity, opting for complicated mechanics that fail to deliver engaging gameplay. Issues with level scaling, mob density, itemization, skill mechanics, UI design, monetization choices, and item progression all contribute to a disappointing experience. Rather than providing a captivating Hack n' Slash adventure, the game relies on forced travel to prolong gameplay, further detracting from the overall enjoyment. As a result, the game falls short of its potential, leaving players longing for a more satisfying and well-rounded experience.

At this point i don't understand the management people from Blizzard an i feel sorry for the developers. It seems that they just never learn that providing a good gaming experience in the first place ist the conditio sine qua non. This decision to make game always online was clearly made to remain absolute control over my single player experience and they ruined it. I read about people waiting 'ages' in queues just to start a single player. Who has time for it?!

If they would write a bad review, they will be uninvited for future events and so instead of writing honestly, they just give out the things blizzard wants to read about their "great game"

    Now, to the REVIEW:
Since you can't apply a rating of an indie developer studio here, the rating for Diablo 4 is definitely and justifiably harsher.

    The Good Sides:
    + Story
    + Campaign
    + Sound
    + Graphics

    The Bad Sides:
    - The areas are all "the same", dull and dreary
    - Open world farming is already extremely boring after about 10-20 levels (I reached level 70, and have W4 gear and can easily work in the world tier. Necromancer, btw.)
    - Dungeons are all the same. No real variety. The same randomly generated level sections in dungeons appear far too often.
    - Enemy variety is not given.
    - Campaign bosses were so easy, that it felt lackluster and was done literally in a minute most of the time.
    - Item level and item depth is kept ridiculously simple.
    - There are currently only 4 REAL playable builds for each class. These can be easily gleaned from the skills and damage types.
    - There are really only 1 to a maximum of 2 final playable builds per class, which also make sense, are fun and can kill properly at all.
    - The lack of variety of surprises and "AHA" moments are just sad.
    - Diablo 3 and 2, despite its difficulties, had extremely more variety and game depth than Diablo 4 has at launch.
    - LAGS since the release took place. Ridiculous. Rubberbanding and much more.
    - Masses of bugs. Multiplayer dungeons, quests and much more.
    - EXTREMELY lack of communication from the developers to the players; Simple example here is simply increasing the level of the world bosses from 70 to 90. Without proper note or patch notes.
    - The developers clearly show that they don't care about the community and players.
    - Playable builds that are fun and on which players sat for a long time to build this min-max, are simply nerfed and tossed away by the devs through patches
    - The developers have made a lot of bad design decisions regarding the gameplay. It constantly feels like no one from the QA team has actually played and tried the final game.
    - The developers are taking the "NERF" design approach instead of "balancing". Everything is generated to death here and screwed down, instead of balancing everything up equally, so that other builds also make sense and offer gameplay fun. Instead, the current game fun is simply removed.
    - In the current games scene known and already established games like Path of Exile, Diablo 3 and many other smaller studios have proven that you do not have to reinvent the wheel.
Here Blizzard and the development team of Diablo 4 fail in the design aspect all along the line.
    - Builds are all predetermined when you look at the aspects and unique items. There are playable builds desired and wanted by the developers, and that's it. No diversity and freedom in your own exploration.
    - As a result of the previous point, players who have put an extreme amount of time into the game have to search and rebuild BUILDS to be efficient. Own builds are hard.

This game is not for hardcore fans of the genre, nor is it a good game for casual gamers. Too much grind, too simple, to much from everything that is bad, and not enough from everything that could make it good and worthwhile.

All in all, the game is a 4/10, just barely.

From Blizzard you expect much more, but the quality and what the company once stood for (in the past) is nowadays just gone. They simply pull a second EA image. Great.

The music slaps though. And the art is great. So much potential. The game needed like 2 more years of development. They had so many years to take the greatest parts of PoE, Grim Dawn, Last Epoch and Diablo 2-3, while learning from each game's mistakes to make something truly groundbreaking. First off, this isn't my first ARPG. I've played every single Diablo game on release. with well over 1000 hours in both D2 and D3

    Good:
    - The campaign was decent. The story was fairly well written and easy to follow.
    - Graphics are top notch. Art style is definitely better/more normal for a Diablo game.
    - Audio is always amazing.
    - Cinematics are very well done.
    - Combat is mostly what you would think of in any Diablo game, with caveats below.

    Bad:
    - World zones are extremely claustrophobic compared to previous Diablo games. The lack of open spaces is very jarring for an isometric game.
    - Lack of variations of monsters. There's like, 8 monsters with different skins.
    - Dungeons are dull walking simulators that all look the same with little variation.
    - Mob spawns are very anemic vs other Diablo games.
    - Zones are either Desert or Swamp. No clear "this is this zone" when you get to it besides maybe Dry Steppes.
    - No clear "end of act" step (new zones in previous games) which gives the perception of a really long winded single act story.

    Ugly:
    - Skill trees are more like skill twigs. Very little variation in skills and poor loot itemization force you to play one way to progress in any meaningful way.
    - Combat can get dull fast due to mobs scaling in level, which gives the perception of never getting more powerful as you progress through the story due to said mobs basically becoming bullet sponges.
    - Itemization is extremely poor and most force you to build one way. This is more telling when they announced that item sets won't even be in the game until "tail end of 2023" if that even happens. The current amount of unique items is pretty poor.
    - Endgame seems to be focused to multiplayer groupings, but zero social tools to form said groups in game or out.
-The release was obviously rushed judging from the problems above. This feels more like a open beta/early access release vs a full $100 retail game.

I don't really understand the concept; if they want to resemble an MMO, Blizzard should have better know-how.
Very monotonous but fun to build skills.
If the price was half the price, I would have rated it a little better.

Sigh. It's really easy to overlook the huge amount of effort the designers, modellers, artists, developers, audio engineers, etc put into a title like this, just to see it come crashing down with short-sighted decisions by executives like implementing premium currency, mediocre updates to the gameplay and going so bloody woke.

Truly disappointing from a gamers perspective.

Character models are not up to AAA standards. Lots of atrocious choices, and there aren't even a lot of choices. Inconsistency with visual style of the game (i.e. Barbarian should not look like he took a shower and combed his hair nicely today)

Animations are lackluster. Looks about the same quality as D2R which is imitating a 23 year old game.

Music is terribly inconsistent with the Diablo franchise, and there's only been one song that actually had a tune you could remember and hum to.

No "Pay to win" according to Blizzard, hopefully this does not change in the future -- however, one of the most interesting parts of the game is obtaining cool looking gear, and when the best looking gear is offered as a shop exclusive, it diminishes the potential for really good looking gear being obtainable by playing the game.

    Gameplay:

I am falling asleep playing. There is almost zero thought going into my actions. Walking through the world is just another chore, there is a complete lack of interest in the open world.

Enemies spawning out of the sky is absolutely terrible. There is no immersion to how anything is spawned, not just visually, but the enemies themselves bear nearly no semblance to the narrative of where they are.

There's no benefit to trying to make your own build. Just go with the cookie cutter, or suffer being absolutely terrible. The game was clearly designed to have only a couple viable builds per class.

It's also boring to have basically the same skills that existed in other Diablo games. Whirlwind Barbarian once again... it doesn't even fit the tone of the game now. They couldn't come up with something more interesting?

There is an incredible lack of variation in how enemies fight. Everything just plops down a pool or a cone attack or a circular attack around them... wow except this one is blood instead of bile. They couldn't learn how to make more interesting mechanics?

Level scaling just makes character progression feel more stagnant.

Dungeon design is boring, repetitive, and monotonous. Making everything a labyrinth and having to backtrack all the time to go the correct direction is not fun. Visually, just because you have a procedural level design does not make it interesting just because that layout is different from another, in fact it is less interesting because you did not visually design it to be interesting. Repeated elements over and over, no focal points, it's just boring to look at very quickly. Not to mention just how drab everything is, you can still have a dark tone without everything literally being desaturated or dark. Please refer to film and other video games that accomplish this well. As it is, it just adds to the sleepy factor.

Multiplayer feels completely untested. It's very easy to miss a cinematic because someone went 10 seconds further ahead. Only one player can look at landscape views. Players can't hear a lot of dialogue only the initiator can hear. Things like time of day or weather not being synchronized.

Lots of additional annoyances, like being ported back to town when logging out in the open world. Why? It doesn't hurt anyone if you log back into where you were.

    Story:

The story is all over the place. Characters get introduced out of nowhere, then they're suddenly dead or something. It feels like they made a lot of different plot ideas, then just plugged them in sequence and called it a day.

The tone is also all over the place. The beginning starts very "artsy", dark horror ala something like The Witch, then it falls off a cliff and we start getting corny World of Warcraft-esque dialogue and cinematics. What happened?

It is hard to believe this game had the writer of Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Did the team not know how to implement the story properly into the gameplay experience, or did his writing get stifled? It feels like bullet points slapped together.

Being better than a 23 year old game does not make this a great game. It's clear Blizzard doesn't know how to learn from other companies and only looks at themselves when they design games.

The core gameplay is solid, ranged classes have smoother experience, since they dont have to deal with the movement of ranged enemies and melee characters have to be much more proactive in boss fights to stay alive, but all classes, even the melee ones are viable.
Good audiovisuals and competent art design, even with the bland soundtrack. And its worth noting since its rare nowadays, its well optimized, runs great.
But overall its a huge disappointment. If this game came out in 2012, I´d be playing the **** out of it like I did with D3 despite the hate that game got, but re-releasing the same game in different coat, with renamed systems and worse UI, its not fresh enough. The itemization isnt exciting enough to grind nightmare dungeons and I doubt their seasonal content will be very inspiring, most likely uber versions of bosses and new gems/legendary items.

If your plan with this game is to beat the main story, maybe few times with different classes and be done with it, it might be worth buying, but if you hoped like me for this to be your new grind game for months or even years to come, this aint it, at least not for me.

I bought an account on June 7, and after 5 hours I sold it to a new owner for almost 50% cheaper.

I've been a fan of the series since 2000, when I was little, I watched my older brother play, I played myself. I ran to a friend with a floppy disk with saves to transfer the characters to his PC, and look at the clothes and brag about what I found.

Years passed, d3 came out, I bought it right away, the game was difficult in a group, I remember the auction, but there was interest, only monotonous, not random locations annoyed, but there was interest.

When I found out that there would be Diablo 4, gloomy and interesting in a new way - like everyone was waiting for her 4-5 years since the first news.

Bought. The disappointment went on for about 2 hours of play. A ton of information falls on you, empty locations, some huge texts constantly falling out, constant dialogues that seem to be supposed to entertain the course of action, but there was something here, as if they wanted to please you.

Played as a robber, switched to a necromancer, haven’t leveled up yet, but I can already summon 4 skeletons, what?? .

Over time, a dull and sad impression begins to be created that you are not playing Diablo, but some kind of Chinese MMORPG, only inter-game videos remind you of Diablo itself.

The mini map is always open, and on the map itself they show where to go, where to poke, although I chose the "Veteran" option, it seems to be for those who have already played Diablo and understand what's what.

I reach the city where they give me a chest and then... Pause. No progress, the game is in the 2nd hour, and everything is already being dumped to the maximum.

In addition to raising the level and poking at talents, I don’t feel the growth of the character and much interest in what is happening.

The fight with the npc is very boring, routine, the mobs attack you in a crowd and you don’t understand what’s going on in this mess, poke at skills and just look at how many “life bottle numbers” you have and in my case “how many of these skeletons”, since in this mess, it’s not clear where ours are, where strangers are.

There is no reduction UI, at least I didn’t find it, because the pop-up text on the floor of the screen was constantly annoying. It was possible to close the character window only with the ESC button, it was impossible to assign an alternative to it, I constantly pressed the spacebar on the machine, which pretty pissed me off since it was inconvenient to constantly reach for ESC.

The plot is probably interesting, it’s cool that they made it possible to play on my PC in 2015 without problems, but this didn’t help much, since the game lacks a “soul”, even d3, which not everyone liked with its cartoonishness and rich colors, is clearly distinguished by its simple interest and progress.

In this game, you come from the first level just stupidly poke with one mouse button and a couple of buttons, while not immediately understanding what is happening after this in a couple of hours, nothing interesting happens.

You also start using the portal very quickly, you don’t need anything to “learn” it either.

I got the impression that, as a mobilized conscript, they throw me under Bakhmut, put a saucepan on my head, give me a rifle with 5 rounds of ammunition and shout “GO SHOOTING!” they are thrown at the front line, without any explanation of what SHOULD BE DONE. Absolutely dull gameplay, I am very disappointed.

All the laudatory reviews of some American companies, nothing more than a desire to earn as much as possible from a PR company, my advice, just play a friend's account for a couple of hours, if there is one, before going broke, you might like it, or maybe not, since everything looks interesting on streams and videos from YouTube, but unfortunately not in fact.

I am a fan of the Diablo game series, and I want to tell everyone who reads this post - this is not the same game and not the same Diablo, although they want to visually present it to us exactly as Diablo.

The mechanics are easy to understand but not so trivial to master, with the pace of new mechanics introduced (paragon at level 50) being good. The cost of rerolling equipment and imprinting aspects scales with level (even in relation to your income of those currencies) and so it feels that it's easier to create good gear early and gets harder as you reach end game, as it should. Aspects being imprintable is a good design decision that raises the floor so people do not have to spend 100+ hours finding aspects that are critical to their build. However, to actually have great gear, you will need to farm for high rolls on the aspects and stats on items. The fact that you don't have to find items with both great stats and aspect because you can imprint good aspects onto it is apparently controversial, but I don't think it should be. There are many QoL improvements over previous games, but people will always find something to complain about.

    Campaign:
The campaign can be played through in about 20 hours at a leisurely pace if you do not do many side quests, and has OK writing with excellent cinematics and voice acting as usual. The story has some major questions that they never resolved, for example at the start: why are we, a total scrub, trying to catch up to Lilith, a relatively important demon? Isn't that just asking to be killed? The ending was also a bit bewildering, but the leading up to it mostly made sense. Another point is that the player character never has any choice narratively, and makes some decisions that I would not. It's understandable as an ARPG that you have no choice in the narrative, but perhaps that's a point of innovation that Blizzard might've been able to go for.

    Combat:
Combat feels mostly fluid, but is plagued by being always-online. This leads to some rubber-banding and lag from my shoddy internet connection. Being online does not really offer much social benefits like a usual MMO, so it seems like it's mostly to combat piracy and as a form of DRM.

    Itemization:
A special note on itemization in addition to my comment under gameplay. I do not understand why many reviews claim itemization is ver simple - it is not. It's not on POE's levels of complexity of having connected gem slots, but it does not need to be that complex. Complex does not equal good. There are many damage modifier buckets that combine multiplicatively with other buckets and additively for sources within the bucket. This itself offers some depth to plan out gear to cover multiple buckets as they scale much better (as the modifiers can get to pretty high numbers - 100% damage and 100% damage in two buckets = 2 * 2 = 4x the damage for different buckets vs 1 + (1+1) = 3x the damage for the same bucket.

Basically it was obvious that Blizzard wasn't going to take any risks with this game, every bit of info they'd dropped after the initial announcement screamed that they are going to make the same ugly decisions all over again. And it is basically what we got. It is the same vanilla pre-RoS D3 with the new graphics and the same systems they renamed and repacked to different containers. Same very casual, very clean, very controlable (by blizzard) way of playing the game with nothing of interest for your average player, let alone hardcore fans of the genre. Runes system is your "new" skill tree. Kanai cube is your new aspect thing. Your class-sets are paragon boards now. Same D3 1.0 skill system: generators, spenders. Your vanilla D3 inferno is the new world tier 4.

The story is retconned and is really nothing special despite really being darker.
The graphics are mostly mediocre by today's standarts. The game engine really lacks contrast and sharpness, the picture is just blend and gray. The art style is superb though. Designers, artist, modelers outdid themselvels once again. The cinametics are fire. The audio-design is good.
The monetisation and policies are pure cancer.
The endgame is non-existant. Same with the replayability.
The game is just boring. It doesn't demand any brain activity from you from second one. Eventually it will become D3, meaning every season you start from scratch following some easy guide from some dude, never required to make any decision for yourself. You just grab a list of items from the floor, do some obvious mumbo jumbo and you're done.
People will forget about D4 very very soon. There's just not enough stuff to experiment on there. And there's no signs that is about to change, on the contrary.

    Overall.
    As a single-player story game 710.
As an online multi-player service game 010.
Oh, and let's substract some points for the beyond good and evil greed behind the monetisation plan.
The final score is 110. And honestly I am being generous. Let's not forget I've been waiting for this game for 10 years. And that is what I've got.

I gave it 5/10 because i'm one of the idiot who got the game in early access for 89 euros (and I never played the Beta).. So 4/10 is for me and 5 for the game... Also as many others are pointing, it misses a lot of features, I won't give another list, you can see almost everyone else mentioning it.

I will still play it a bit to see if the real endgame (70+ and few paragon boost) save something gameplay wise, but if not (and probably not) this will be forgotten fast, life goes on though, it's just another silly game guys!

Furthermore the gameplay is highly polished and refined with all skills giving a great feedback and feel to using them. Due to the way Diablo uses a mix of cooldown skills and mana use skills it doesn’t fall into the POE trap of making most builds about spamming a single skill or relying on cheap auto kill AOEs to make bosses threatening. The game is being review bombed by people who are hating on the game because they hate Blizzard. Don't believe me? Read more than half of the negative reviews. Furthermore, most of these reviewers are from accounts with no reviews of other games. Bots if you will, just because they are whiney little kids who are crying about something that didn't go their way.

Regarding the open world and online: You sometimes see other players, you sometimes to some random events together and that's it, it is by no means too intrusive, as some cry.

Also, the area scaling is a good thing, no boring areas that are so far under you, that there is no challenge left, at the same time is the open world not so challenging anyway.

Balancing is not perfect and I'm sure we'll see quite some balancing patches incoming in the near future.

Where I'm not quite sure is how long the endgame can keep me busy. In any case, I'm eagerly awaiting the first season in July with new contents and challenges.

Another completely unsurprising Live Services failure. $100 game that you can't play, because there aren't enough servers, to play a single-player experience game.

Doesn't matter if you've made a great game if it can't be played.

As for the negative reviews, I have not read one single negative review on here that is actually sensible or fair. Most of them are full of ridiculous critiques from people who don't really have a clue. The average critic score is far more indicative of the quality of the game.

    - Every build plays very similarly where you pick a basic auto attack skill and are forced to spam it to generate some kind of energy to spend on some "big attack" which depending on the class is often not even that satisfying
    - Most builds revolve around the same core skills, the only thing you would usually change is the main dps skill that you try to scale with gear

I have no idea who designed and play tested this and thought it was good, truly mind boggling, even though I managed to accumulate 50 hours, I still feel ripped off for what I paid.

You pretty much done with skill variety after level 25 and you will be using the same gainer you've got at level one for the rest of eternity.
The builds are very simple and straightforward, there doesn't seem to be many interactions between "schools": if you build frost sorcerer you put points into blue icons.
90% of legendries are absolutely uninspired with something like "gain slightly more resource from [skill]", "chance to apply [effect} from [skill]" or "get a small shield when hitting elites".
The "open" part of "open world" is a huge misnomer: 80% of a time it's the same web of paths, not some expanse for you to explore.
Gearing has a good spot: imprinting, but beyond that it's pretty much D3

The game is *fine*, it's ok. But "ok" is not what you expect for the asking price, right? Rn it feels like a barebones game, more of a vehicle to try and get you to buy mtx than an actual experience. Oh and there absolutely will be class DLCs (they already confirmed it) on top of battlepasses and an already hefty price tag

I think the fact that this game made me want to install PoE (of which I'm not a fan of but it scratches that arpg itch) after half a year of not playing it is the best way to sum up my experience

    - replaced an old-school cell-based inventory with a mainstream casual item-based one;
    - world adaptation is so absurd that every player on a level sees mobs level different (your character level + 2);

The BO is amazing, the graphics are incredible, the color diversity in the world, the combat felt great.

I really enjoyed my leveling experience, I finish the story lvl 47, I immediately went to unlock the tier 3, and it was easy, I died once on the last boss because I got greedy but yes, nothing hard. And then you enter the endgame with the tree, quest everywhere in the world, this sigil dungeons, the mats to gather, the running to all around the world…

It feels like lost ark, and that’s my main issue with this Diablo, I want to play Diablo, not lost ark. The open world feels great until you have no story to do and keep running back and forth to complete these tree quests, to go from one dungeon to another for the sigil, it becomes annoying very fast because… I just want to kill mobs, a lot of mobs and feel good about it.

Which bring to another issue, the density, it’s very poor imo, either in the world or in dungeon, I can only hope it gets better with the difficulty increasing.

And it leads to another issue, the difficulty, not once I felt in danger, from the moment where I unlock tier 3 at lvl 48 and did dungeon 53+without any issue, to the open world, the bosses, the world boss, of course if I stand still I die, but I don’t ever feel in danger.

The dungeons are great visually, but these objectives, take one thing, bring it back, go take another one, bring it back, it feels slow, and repetitive, for the story it was great, for the end game not so much

And there are other issues, like the tab map to know where I go by continuing to move, take that away make me even more feel that I play to a “lost ark” than an H&S. The lack of build choices on the long run, for now the game is fairly new, but at the end the builds choices are limited, and we’ll see everything very fast. The absence of loot filter, which I hope they add in the future.

Maybe it’s only for me, and I am not capable of evolving with what the majority of players wants, and that’s fine, but I feel deception because despite the fact that it’s a good game overall, it’s far from the diablo (and H&S) experience I was waiting for.

Confusing UI decisions. No separate storage tab for Gems. Not the best horse-riding experience. Odd twists during the story and weird pacing during Acts 4-6. Loot feels serviceable at best, unenthusiastic at worst, and the power climb starts to plateau past level 20 with barely any changes to strategy (even with new loot tiers and Paragon Boards). Some endgame activities like Helltides feel underwhelming.

    Thoughts-
Regardless, I’ve had my fill at the bloody buffet and found my appetite sated while craving something more. Perhaps Diablo 4 can deliver that later as more updates and quality-of-life changes roll out. For many players (best-selling game in Blizzard history, by the way), that’s more than enough. For me, it’s fine. No less fun and certainly no more.

Not to mention how messed up it is to ask your customers to shell out 20 extra bucks to play the game on the actual release date, and not have to wait to play a week later. Such a cheap way to squeeze as much as possible out of your customers.

There was so much bad to take away from the character design, itemization, and just in general from Diablo 3, annnnd they didn't learn a thing it seems. The game looks great first of all. A huge step from D3. But the same exact problems are here with characters and items. Unironically has less player customization than D3. Just because they shifted the skills from little pages to a "tree", people think it is great. The "tree" has 2 choices per skill? There's no depth at all, no options to explore and tinker with. The paragon boards all have "best in slot" deals going on where you know exactly what you will use before you even start playing if you plan it out. Nothing to discover or try. No player has "their build". Blizzard has put builds into the game for the player to play. You have the X skill equipped? well put on the X Aspect. Nice build! Just about the entirety of the character's power comes from the player's gear, which is an issue.

The biggest issue for me, is that the game has 0 innovation. This is one of the biggest "game developers", that had over 10 years to work on this game, and they played it completely safe with the thought of consoles, sales, and trying to have the largest player base first. Instead of starting with gameplay and mechanics first, it seems like they started with some business plan, and built a "game" around it to hit goals.

As someone who loves ARPG's I am very disappointed. I was not expecting much from Blizzard these days, especially after all the previews we have gotten the past few years. But was hoping to get surprised and there actually be a step forward for ARPG's, but what we got was a huge step backwards for the entire gaming industry. Setting a precedence of charging extra for a sooner release date is disgusting, and borderline predatory.

I don´t know what Diablo 4 wanted to be but ultimatively it just feels and players like a game that got visually made interesting to sell it without considering that a game needs proper indepth content to keep you entertained. Skill tree for characters is so lackluster that you have barely build diversity. Story is horrible at its best parts with a lot of fast introduced characters you never care about or know anything about them. Setting is interesting and nice but not diverse. Graphics for enviroment look amazing at times and overall it has the blizz like gameplay feeling which is smooth but it is just missing so many elements that make good ARPG. Finding uniques feels great but the system how you transfer them only once to new gear makes it so that you often feel bad finding an upgrade but you don´t use it because you are missing the legendary effect.

The game being an open world ARPG didn´t really add anything or made it better. Yes you will encounter other players in the world but it adds nothing for you. There is no synergy or interactions between players and overall I wouldn´t even notice if there were no players.

The scaling system is also somewhat two edged. While content always stay somewhat difficult you also never feel like you actually get stronger. Its a weird system at its core but can´t decide if I like it or hate it.

Overall.. 70€ price tag is kind of heavy and expectations were kind of high. If you casually looking for a "feels good to play ARPG" and don´t mind the money I would say go for it. If you are looking for a really story driven RPG consider just watching the lore on youtube videos that potentially explain it better then the ingame story. If you are looking for an indepth ARPG feeling with lots of builds and monster slaying I would probably recommend Path of Exile or other games in that genre over that game.

If you haven´t played D2 remake yet I recommend it over this game. Just wait a bit if you have the time until D4 potentially got some necessary changes

By far the best game in the series! Not only did they improve everything from Diablo 3, but they added an MMO element that pushes the game over the top. The combat is SIGNIFICANTLY better, the leveling system is SIGNIFICANTLY better, the story is EPIC, the dialogue is EXCELLENT, and it is a BLAST to play with friends.

Its a great game in my opinion. Is it perfect? No but it has a solid skeleton to build upon with future patches, seasons, and expansions. Overall I think its a good start to the game and it will only get better with time.

Disappointing, almost all the systems and quests are just boring and very skippable.

Overall, it's a solid game, which is a surprise because it was made by Blizzard
Sound design, story, music and environmental art along with bosses are the things that carry this game.
However, it got pretty big flaws. 1. - build variety is lacking, because skill system is very restrictive, and you are locked in cycle of generator-cooldown-spender playstyle. D3 offered the player a lot

    2. - Endgame - despite having an allright endgame for launch, i'm just not interested in it because of how dungeons are structured - grab X or kill X, then return to the gates an kill the boss. This problem, however, could be addressed with future patches, unlike the flawed skill system
    3. - Itemization - another completely flawed system. Low amount of possible max. affixes, simplification of modifiers and some items like rings or amulets could stay with you from level 10 to level 100, because they actually rolled something useful. Not a fan of that

Good game. There are some problems with the endgame content, which will probably be resolved as they were in D3, and there are some QoL features I would love to see in the future, like a separate gem inventory tab, reduced/missing cd on the mount, portals directly to the nightmare dungeons, etc.
Anyway, it is a solid foundation for a long-living game, a nice casual change of pace from PoE

Anyway, it is a solid foundation for a long-living game, a nice casual change of pace from PoE experience, with a good story (better than everything that was in Diablo before), great sound, and visuals.
Non-paid transmog looks really sick and in many cases better than the paid ones, and after thinking about it for a while - paid shop is not the worst thing to have, since this game is planned as a service, I just hope it will only be cosmetics and nothing that affects gameplay. The price tag is kinda hurt though.

I never had high hopes for d4 and I am glad that the game is good, for now, it can give one many hours of fun, and with good support, it could ramp up to thousands. Probably.

Boring game. I am a Diablo fan and I don't enjoy giving it a low grade but it is what it is. Diablo 3 was a let down. This is at least as bad if not worse.
Music and graphics are fine, but the rest is just not fun. Also littered with micro-transactions in-game purchases, the same monetization disease that have been poisoning the games.

It’s almost like Diablo 4 developers are consciously fighting against everything that made classic Diablo fun. [Issue#262, p.80]

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.

The best Blizzard launch in a long time and a worthy game to be called Diablo.
