This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Diablo IV - walking simulator on rails.

Starts off with pay to win 30€ early access and a non-ssf HC "race" dominated by group play spam-resetting the same dungeon over and over.

Boring itemization and barebones skill-twig ("tree") with minimal effective choice.
The monster killing portion of the gameplay is good, everything else is not.

Every town is deliberately horribly ineffective in terms of crafting / storing stuff, requiring one to walk back and forth for a minute or two depending on the use case, of course the horse isn't allowed to gallop inside and near towns.

The endgame is weaker than path of exile was literally 10 years ago. Nightmare Dungeons require a 1-2 minute walk every time, incentivizing preparing a set of identical dungeons, so that you don't have to walk there every time. Each "unique" dungeon has always the same boring objectives and boss (if there even is one) and requires backtracking, sometimes requiring players to backtrack for multiple minutes per dungeon. To top it off, there's only 22 dungeons that can be nightmare dungeons, despite there being 100+ in the game.

The level-scaling is absolutely mind-boggling. Zones that are lower level than you will downscale your character, meaning you technically get weaker per level in low-level zones, similarly, monsters that are higher level than you gain damage reduction and deal more damage to you.

The "trade system" is ridiculous. Any item that's legendary or unique cannot be traded. Any item that's been upgraded by the black smith cannot be traded. In other words, any item that you use becomes account bound and can at best be reused by another of your characters. This also means that most* account bound item upgrades make the prior item absolutely worthless.
Furthermore, the level requirement of items is at least as high as your current level, this means you could find a rare item (that would normally only require level 60 to equip that would be useful to your friend or another character of yours), BUT they'll need to reach your level, so even if you happen to find something useful for another character (which is rare to begin with thanks to "smart loot"), you can't use it anyway unless that other character is on a similar level.

Hardcore is kind of a joke. There is cheat death elixirs farmable for everyone and a cheat death mechanic for sorcerer, in combination with the scroll of escape. This means that for example the pinnacle level 100 boss can be killed with zero risk of death.

Last but not least is stash space and console-port. The entire UI is obviously designed for consoles and doesn't feel or look good on pc, for example, one cannot search in the stash or on the skill/paragon tree (except for predefined terms LOL). You start off with one stash tab (10x5), every item takes up one stash slot (gems and elixirs are stackable) and can have up to 4 stash tabs. Those 4 tabs fill up very quickly with even one character.

This is of course is an incomplete list of current issues.

I very much like the changes they've made with Diablo IV to mix a lot of the best things about Diablo 2 & Diablo 3 together. This is a very different game than the former games and every day I look forward to playing it after my children are in bed.

A lot of the criticism in the 0 ratings force people like myself who love the game but could actually put real constructive criticisms to simply choose 10. The 0 ratings involve ridiculous complaints about microtransactions that you never need to even look at. The game is a slower game by nature, in every Diablo game. You can jump anywhere using waypoints & later you can ride a horse with speed boosts to go faster.

The fights are a lot of fun and require you to figure out what mechanics the bosses use in order to avoid taking too much damage.

The story is excellent, as expected with Diablo games. There are so many options for customizing your characters made up of the 5 classes that I expect to play this at least 500 hours before I need a break.

I've had no issues connecting to the server. I've had a few issues with connection drops & getting stuck, but nothing too bad with first week of a game that will continuously get better over the next several years.

Anyone who gives this a 0 is making some sort of statement that has nothing to do with the fun of the game.

If I could have rated it normally, it would've been 8-9 as there are tedious things that could be made better. I would like to see a gem tab, because they fill up the inventory too much. I would like to see them adjust the text to never show up as the same color as the environment. Finally, I'd like to see them add the ability to auto pick up and salvage normal & magical items by enabling in settings. That way if we advance beyond that gear we can continue to gather ingredients while not filling our inventory with junk.

Boring, All the gear modifiers are the same, All the rings/amulets are the same. But it doesn't matter that all the gear is the same, because the enemies all scale to whatever level you are, so you will always pretty much do the same damage.
You are punished for levelling in this game.
If you liked the original D1 D2 games, you will really really hate this.
    Complete waste of money.

This game is ....literally EVERYTHING that was horrible with DIABLO 3, dusted, regurgitated and turned to 11. No feedback has been taken into account from veteran D1 and D2 LoD players AT ALL.
POWER comes again FROM ITEMS (not skills and investment in them)
IDIOTIC modifiers on certain skills available on items
    NO RUNES
    NO TRADE
    NO PVP

Game has a decent base. Combat is fun but there are too many missing QoL things they havent learned from d2 d3 somehow?

Also some really annoying bugs but that’s more expected with a new game at the end of the day. Their approach to disabling items and quick super nerfs does not feel good. They need to release a “feel good” buffs patch ASAP, to appease the community. Endgame does

Endgame does feel pretty shallow since its pretty much ONLY nightmare dungeons atm. Having to ride the awful horse each time is getting real old real fast. Side activities inside the dungeons are an automatic skip because they aren’t well designed/rewarding and some of the dungeon require missions to proceed just feel bad and clunky.

A lot of this stuff could really be made sooo much better so quickly but who knows how their sprints pipeline look like atm…

Tree of whispers, world boss and helltides arent really very relevant activities so it really makes you feel like there is something missing for now.

I like the graphics and the story generally speaking. It's always been a strong side for blizz.

Generic, boring, repetitive and offers no real challenge. Extremely pricey.

Putting everything aside, what disappointed me the most was the fact that the "Return to darkness" was a lie. Even with better graphics the game does not even get close to offering you the same immersion and feeling that D2 used to have (as it was proposed). If you're part of the team that spent years working on this title, then I feel absolutely terrible for you, which is similar to how it feels to play the game. It is a hot, hot mess.
    - bugs, bugs and more bugs
    - Atrocious user interface
    - Graphics either stutter constantly or look gross when turned down to manage framerate
    - monetization is audacious and conceited for an already 70 USD purchase [see in game $ shop]
    - numerous, fundamental game design and gameplay mechanics decisions that either do not work [do not accomplish the thing they were meant to], do not make sense or just feel bad to experience. Too many to list with character limit
    - embarrassing character design further hobbled by extremely deficient customization options. There are 4 faces vs. 34 different jewelry combinations? No body sliders either. As if.
    - once again the design is so bad that there a multiple instances where we’re not sure if it’s a bug or not
    – balance? As in - of all the different possible playstyles of the available classes each ‘build’ should ideally fall within a standard deviation of the mean. It’s ok to have a clear and obvious best, as long as it’s not exponentially more powerful than any other choice, and that’s just regarding by-the-numbers analysis. Players ALSO want each popular build to FEEEEEEL GOOD and be FUN. If it’s making big damage numbers and never dying, but it’s boring, frustrating, too simple or too complicated then what’s the point?
    – I remember before open beta some content creators and influencers having played the game saying that combat was good. That it ‘felt’ good….i don’t trust those people anymore. They may have been referring instead to combat responsiveness as far as actually pressing the buttons, but i’m playing a necromancer and a lot of the time when try to use a corpse, nothing happens until a full second later i find out why because that corpse ‘despawned’ but was still visible…just pretending i guess. And why do corpses have to despawn as others are generated? If we’re THAT limited by what hardware or the engine is capable of [and i'm not convinced we are] but if it is that bad, then just generate fewer corpses in the first place and then balance using corpses to compensate. But I digress, got really into the weeds there. Combat feel really bad to me
-- story? Not sure, only made it through the first act so far. This is your excuse to disregard me because all the things I'm talking about…what, get better after act 2? Act 3? When I reach level 70 or 90? Sorry, story: uuuh, not terrible but certainly not good. It’s just a little bad. While there’s objective ways to analyze good or bad writing, I’m willing to relegate my verdict to a subjective opinion. ACT I SPOILERS - meeting Lorath [and his VOICE actor! Yeah!] is nice, but then he takes off…oh well. Then we get stuck with Leah…i mean honestly i forgot her name, but she’s just a more diverse Leah. She does the Leah type things. Here, let me open this door for you with the power of smol, or here let me open this OTHER door for you with the power of smert! this guy that will later straight up boast to a literal angel that you’re gonna track down and kill Lilith. That’s the kind of person that needs help opening things. Yeah sure, its magic whatever, it’s also trite, it’s not interesting. Umm, i don’t think story has ever really been diablo’s core skill - to me the games with less were more. Story in this series should be seen and not heard. Imagine diablo as a game saying: i’m here to shred demons and introduce sappy sympathetic archetypes to deliver exposition and inject motivation, and i’m all out of sappy sympathetic archetypes! That being said i’m a HUGE fan of side quests and there’s even a couple side quest sequels that add a little arch to their story, and those were neat i liked those. Okay. why do i care more about the lady with the axe or the hard-boiled exorcist than i do helping Leah…i mean whoever deal with her mommy issues? My guess is less was more.
    - voice acting and writing: **** Yeah! Aaaaand then the rest of the cast - this too, is an unpopular opinion of mine. The actors individually have good or decent quality, but the directing of them is almost always over the top cringe. Like, okay just…i get it, just bring it down to like a 5 or a 6 from where you are, okay? It’s also hard, admittedly, to separate the VA from the writing. You can only do so much with what you’re given. There were some lines that worked, but overall just felt like too schlocky or melodramatic. Get out of the way. I’m already battling the forces of evil, just let that experience speak for itself

I like it better than all the other Diablo games. Better story, longer more in depth characters, some emotion. I appreciated it all.

If I HAD to be critical, it's the notion that I'd have to make a new character for seasons. But so far, I've had a great time with it. I'm happy I picked it up.

It is not the worst game on the market, but I am sure that without "Diablo" name behind it and all the hype created by Blizzard no one in his right mind would pay 70+ bucks for this title.

The game's horrible gameplay and shameless in-game monetization practices have left me feeling betrayed and disillusioned.
    Abysmal Gameplay Mechanics

The core gameplay in Diablo 4 is a far cry from the engaging and addictive experiences we had in previous installments. The combat system feels clunky and unresponsive, making even the most basic encounters feel like a chore. The skill trees and character progression have been severely dumbed down, offering little in the way of meaningful choices or customization.

Enemy AI is laughably bad, with foes either standing still and waiting to be hit or mindlessly rushing toward the player with no regard for tactics or self-preservation. This lack of challenge and variety makes for a dull, monotonous experience that quickly grows tiresome.

But truly, the ingame monetization is despicable; baiting players to buy in-game items is greedy and insulting. Do not buy this game unless you want a lackluster experience combined with a buy more now complex.

Diablo 4 is something that was truly anticipated for years. And therefore it hits harder that it is just a mixed bag of Diablo 3 (before it got polished, nowadays it is a solid ARPG in many regards) and Diablo Immortal. This game is no 10/10 and it is not black white to also give it a 0. It has good graphics (likewise to DI for terrain, but more polished to PC performance) and campaign/story - that is the good part. Now the bad: Itemization simple for monkey brain. Complexity and true skilltree choices that matter to make something special outside the box of what the developers intented to make as a build is missing completely. In the current state it does not even have sets, runewords or anything to do when you reached 100. The journey to 100 was ok, but the progression felt like you are losing and there is no anticipation whatsoever to get anything particularly worthy as item or reward when you continue the grind. It is also too easy, not only can anybody easily oversee the best choice to make in skills and points, but also there is no challenge whatsoever. Mobs need too long to die, while making not enough damage. I played to 100 HC in 70 hours and experienced everything once and killed it. I didnt have one challenge, where I died. The fixed hotkeys for the 6 skills, while having to pick, as intended for the developed build, a primary skill and set skillpoints in it, a secondary and so on, makes it just worse. People are given too much hand and developers thought for them instead of giving them itemization and complexity so the players can create something new, that was not intended before. Lastly I can say that the shop is just Diablo Immortal 2.0 . But this is not f2p. You pay 70-100 bucks and afterwards you pay 20 for battlepass monthly (when it ll release, ....) + many mtx , up to more than 100 bucks for the platinum package with almost 800% extra value. It is a joke and I rate it 4.6/10.

PS: I have to add, that I checked the 10/10 reviews, which were there first and it is very obvious that most of them are paid or bots. Like amazon recommendations or anything is faked nowadays. You can often see that the blockbusters of all genres, which were released, all got 10/10 from these persons. Or they are just new accounts

EDIT: NO HUD OVERLAY :D - yes in an ARPG Diablo , better skip this one

    EDIT2: lowered score from 5/10 to 2/10

I am posting review sfter more than 20 hourd of gameplay.
The game is awesome! I played diablo 2 and 3 and the remastered d2.
This one is great. Storytelling, voice acting, cinematics, graphics etc. Boss fights are fun, at least most of them. But hey nothing is 100% perfect!
The gameplay mechanics are quiet similar to D2 so no comment on that one.

All in all, frest game Blizzard!

I wanted to give Blizzard another chance, but basically scamming me like that (at least I didnt get the $100 version), for a lazily produced POS like this? I wont forget that ever.
They are lucky there are no returns possible, and they obviously designed the game so that you cant see the biggest issues in the first 2 hours of the game (where a refund is possible). I wont forget that either.
Oh yeah, it also has massive loading-stutters, even on the fastest SSD you can get and massive rubberbanding, even when youre just on your own. You can and will die to both.

Seriously, in 2023, you release an RPG game where the only crafting option is to reroll a single parameter on items. It's funny, just as funny as getting 1 million per click during recrafting... Endgame farming by walking from instance to instance is also quite ridiculous =)))

There is the potential for a great game under all the **** if blizzard actually listen to the fan base and not the casual dad gamers who play for 2 hours a week. But lets face it, the chance of that happening is next to zero, they will almost certainly give it a few seasons and then leave a skeleton dev team on it and let it die just like d3. They've made their money from the initial sales, they don't care now.

Just does not motivate to play in the endgame. Too many bad decisions by Blizzard leading to friction everywhere. Ignoring player feedback in the beta test and then nurfing while the game is live takes away the fun of planning and investing in a build. The game makes countless mistakes that have been avoided by Last Epoch and Path of Exile.

With the combination of those they have created a nostalgic in game ambiance for the generation who played Diablo 2.

User interface is good and clean only seperate inventory tab for gems are missing which can be easily fixed.

Combat system feels good transition is smooth and pacing is well balanced. But there is nothing new it feels more like d3 combat system mastered. environmental and mob interaction is lacking. like You cannot grab a demon and throw them on others or turn them into living bombs or charge on them and squeeze them into a corner but such things doesn't exist so it is just classic hack and slash.

Skill tree is designed simple and is not hard to understand but it feels like it is lacking one more branch. Currently there are good amount of build variety of classes, the problem is that only a few of them are viable options.
Paragon system doesn't scale them up enough or enable new variety of builds, it is bad and doesn't feel like existence of it makes difference at all. That will lead combat mechanics to be too repetitive in the future and will not allow people who wants to brainstorm to create something good.

Boss designs are too repetitive there are not much of mechanics each boss feels same with another only with visual and very small differences. You mostly avoid circles and frontal assault kill some mobs they spawn and that's it.

itemization is bad and not rewarding enough in end game to go through same repetation cycle over and over again.

Also since they are not allowing trade of the aspects"skill modifiers" they placed basic version of each aspect to dungeons so all people can get them without farming items. also Some of the aspects change the gameplay of the skill but most of them are just basic modifiers like increase attack speed or increase damage etc. I think it is not good enough. Also not being able to trade aspects and putting them into dungeons giving free access to it allows more casual players to enjoy the game but also ruins the point of item farming and value of going through repetation cycle.

Overal the score of 6 out of 10 is what diablo 4 deserves. I would expect from Blizzard much more since they are one of the definers of the genre. it seems like they avoid taking risks in order to milk the title diablo as much as possible. Some people doesn't want it to be something more it is understandable but it is coming from a several billion dollars worth gaming company so it is not acceptable.

I wish there was an offline option as my experience would've been so much better.

Apart from the poor performance and the game always being online i really love the story and the dark atmosphere thats been created. The game play is also much better then any of the other diablo games. I can see blizzard monetizing the crap out of this game. We all know its going to happen at some point. Who knows if its going to be a disgusting as diablo immortal but i'm feeling there going to try something. Dungeon farming in endgame gets really boring after 15-20 min.

The leveling scaling removes so many features. Replayability, to experience a unique way to level. Finding a great item to change your progression. All of that feels forbidden in the game as the mobs always get stronger than you.

It's not that it makes the game harder(wouldn't be a bad thing either)... But it's just straight boring after awhile. It's a lazy design because they can't keep a good control over balances between classes and mobs stats throughout the whole game.

Leveling scaling can be good if it's done right, but it's not in this game.

Game is 6.5/10 because of the heavy weighted combat and dark designed map. But rest of it, to make it a great ARPG is a no.

    - The game gives almost no feedback when you are hit, compared to various action recovery mechanics in d2. This means, obviously, you cannot "feel" your character's armour, unlike in d2.
    - Every skill in this game has damage tied to your weapon damage. This makes your sorcerer character not so much sorcerer-like.
    - With weapon equipped and using skills the animation depends entirely on skills but not weapons; and those skills hit in a circle, not individual targets. This make your barbarian character not so much warrior-like.

Overall the lack of class differentiation makes this game a substandard ARPG and I strongly discourage anyone to buy it.

The content and meat of the game feels a tad lacking, not everything feels quite viable end game yet, almost as if content has been held back for future seasons, as opposed to future seasons adding upon an already packed game. A lot of what you are pursuing in terms of items feels very linear, not a lot of options for diversity. Just a mid tier hack and slash game all things considered at the moment.

Graphics are great in the cinematics, graphics in game are mostly pretty good, with a few very odd exceptions of something standing out for looking VERY rough around the edges, certain spells and the like. Voice acting is good. Music is OK. Nothing like Diablo 1 or 2, but it's not terrible. The story is good. Not great, again it feels like we are expecting more in future seasons, but its alright. Far better than D3.

The price alongside the micro transactions is NOT OK. Charging 70$ and claiming you need to do this to keep up with today's inflation THEN adding in cosmetics at 25 dollars a pop is hogwash to put it as politely as I care to at this moment. Charge 70 and severely reduce the in game purchases prices permanently. By a lot. Also get rid of fomo, and in game currency. Absolute predatory garbage and whoever keeps insisting these should go into games needs some damming backlash from the audience AND the game developers themselves. It only serves to make them look bad and add more stress to their plate. I just find this behavior flat out disgusting.

TL;DR - Mediocre live service game. Leave it on the table until future seasons come out, things might be more balanced/there might be more meat to the game play and end game by then. Don't reward their micro transaction behavior.

Edit after more play time* Rated this game originally as a 5 for their efforts, but now down to a 3. I am genuinely bored and unhappy with my purchase. End game just feels like WoW dailies. Boring and tedious. I wanna run fun gauntlets to kill memorable bosses for epic loot. Not generic mob whats his face in generic dungeon. All while being forced to play a horrible builder spender build with no breaks in the monotony. I genuinely want my money back.

    2. Another thing that the saga implemented was to be able to carry potions and organize them as we want. Again, D4 implements this in a vague and meaningless way.
    3. I understand the need to implement a battle pass... but this time, it is not only ugly, but also confusing and difficult to understand.
    4. If something made popular was the sets... that in D3 were poorly implemented and in D4 ended up disappearing.
    5. The so precious runewords, something that all the users loved from D2... again. Taken out of D3 and D4.
    6. I ask, is it really necessary to mess up the whole screen with numbers representing the damage applied when the life bar of the monsters does not have a number that represents the total life of the monster? they ruin the art of the game.
    7. That all the objects occupy the same space, another mistake.

And I could go on detailing many more aspects that make this game not up to what it was expected to be. Regardless of the story that you may like or not.

--It takes such an ungodly amount of time to level up to 100 that you aren't likely to stick with it until you can enjoy the build potential that is present.
--It's not enough to acquire an Aspect one time, you can only apply an extracted Aspect once before it's worthless to you. This means you will CONSTANTLY have to farm for the exact same aspect every single time you want to try out a new piece of gear. These Aspects can only drop on certain Legendary items and the Legendary items that can drop them are already exceedingly rare, with no ability to deterministically acquire the stuff you want for any particular build it means getting to the end-game is a total slog AND optimizing your build once you get there is 10x worse.
--Respeccing is ludicrously expensive, as each Paragon point has to be removed 1 by 1 (read: there are 220 of them) and you cannot respec single ability points at once, you in fact have to spend gob-smacking amounts of gold to respec your main character abilities.
--No ability to teleport to Nightmare dungeons, you will end up running to those as well.
--Mobs / bosses have far too much health.

Servers are unplayable every couple of days.
--Lag is atrocious even on days when the game is playable.
--Transitioning map zones will stop you in place and / or outright crash your game
--Rubber banding, even when playing solo instances separated from the over world

Level scaling obliterates the fun in this game.
--Everything gets harder when you level up, not easier.
--Gear you invested in at a lower level is IMMEDIATELY trash compared to the next drop.
--Nothing is good for you until you reach the end-game and there's no ability to power yourself up if you're under-leveled before engaging in new activities.
--There's no gear protection to ensure you get build-appropriate gear as you level up, which only exacerbates how randomized your power curves will be. You could spend 10s of levels with off-spec gear, just because you didn't get the drops you needed and it's too expensive to go out farming for the drops that match your build.

    Anti-social in practice
--There's no suite of products to enable socializing in this game, like a dungeon finder or LFG, and so you have to turn to 3rd party forum boards to enable finding people appropriate to your activity.
--Joining a party scales the world to that party leader, which means joining your friends prior to the completion of the campaign is a non-option. You're not able to join a party with someone and jump to their instance of their world to complete their quest before jumping back to yours to complete a side quest you're on or some other thing appropriate to your world. You would have to restructure the party and have them go through your world to complete content you're working on independently of the content they're working on. It's not at all seamless for anything other than end-game activities.
--I should have the ability to see people inside a dungeon who have toggled it to be public so I can just hop into the dungeon as I pass by it in the over world map, but I cannot do this. I do not have the ability to run a dungeon and make that dungeon public to invite other people into it who are running past it in their version of their over world, I would have to set it all up before hand through a party, which is entirely contrived and anti-social when we have an MMO-styled over world.

    Extremely overpriced
--Playing through the game to level 50 will take you a couple of days. Grinding from 50-100 will take you in the order of magnitude of 100's of hours. Grinding from level 100 to the specific gear required to complete your builds will take you another order of magnitude of 100's of hours. Once you have your builds completed, there will be nothing for you to use it on. The game is an unpurposed, infinite stair case that needed to be so overpriced up front, because Blizzard knows no one would pay a meaningful amount of money to continue playing it past the hype.

Some of my negative points are:
1: LVL scaling: The problem with LVL scaling zones and mobs are that the game feels that you are not improving, it actually gets harder if you LVL up due to all mobs grow in LVL but the gear you have are now worse for your LVL than it was before you got that LVL up.
2: Skill tree: I'm glad they have a skill tree and did not go for d3's stupid kid style, the problem I have with it is that it's so shallow. D2 have one of the best with skills impact other later skills you get, here it's 1-3 attacks/buffs with some passive buffs, but after you get LVL 50 and think wow a new tree, that maybe buff some unique play styles but no just 5 main stats and 4 choices that give you hp or DMG.
3: Bosses and mobs: they are the same, even main quest bosses can be the same as in the dungeons. The mob problem is boring where the game feels small, and it gets boring fast.
4: DMG: I understand that they didn't want to be like d3 where you one shot 10 mobs with a spell and just cleave everything on the run, but now it's just pain to run in to a pack of mobs, and it takes 20-30 sec to kill even the easy non elite packs due to one of the mobs being a bear or brute. Then you have elite packs where it's just a roll of luck if they going to take 20 sec or 3 min to kill. And this sets in fast and due to scaling zones it never gets better (until max LVL). If you play d2 you kinda oneshot small mobs in normal all the way and in Nightmare or even HELL none elite mobs get cleaved down fast, and in d2 a new rune word or a good upg will make it feel easy for the next few lvls.
5: One shot deaths: Even in low lvls i felt that some times i would just get one shot from full hp from a none elite group of mobs, run back and not understand why or how and on some bosses there could be a one shot luck combo, and sure making a mistake on a boss can be a death but when its a 100% death if you are unlucky that the boss spawn the wrong creep and then cast one of its spells is just bad.

Now some good: It looks OK, its better then D3, there are alot to do (it's gets boring fast but its there), it can be hard, real hard and thats fun.

All in all, the first days of playing i felt that this game could be a nice new hack n' slash game, but after 30-40 lvls i felt it was more a grind and that i forced my self to play to justify the 70$ i spent on it.

I can see that some could find this game good, but for me It's just scratch the itch for D2.

Huge server lag issues combat experience is ruined. Seems there is a great game underneath but it is unacceptable to launch a game like this. Being forced to be online with others sucks and breaks the immersion. An offline mode would fix all this. I can only give it a zero. As the game progressed I did enjoy the new spells visually, but it was still incomparable to Elden Ring. Sort of like elementary vs university level. Performance wise, I have a TOP END pc, CPU and graphics card and network and found there were several time where the game sputtered the character causing it to jerk forward.

Over all it’s not bad, but I really expected much, much more from Blizzard at this point in terms of visuals.

TL;DR: Dark, gory, atmospheric, beautiful, responsive combat and addictive gameplay with some confusing game systems and imperfect UI tooltips.

Diablo IV is a good and solid, modernised entry that thankfully borrowed the good parts from it's three predecessors, and mashed them together in a beautifully designed familiar world with everything you want and expect from a Diablo game. The cutscenes (both ingame and prerendered) are incredibly well done, the music and sound are top notch, and on my low-to-mid PC and high-end PC, it runs extremely well, apart from a few rubber banding hitches.

Now, that's all nice, but how is the one thing you'll be doing a lot: slaughtering demons, exploding spiders and butchering goatmen. Thankfully, Blizzard decided to use the combat from Diablo III as a guideline, where even though over time and patches, the numbers and attacks ramped up to insane speeds, D4 retains a pretty fast combat system, even though movementspeed feels quite lacking until you unlock your mount after a few hours of the campaign .

The talenttrees are..fine. There are a handful of too many passives that don't do anything special apart from "increase x by y%" but overall, after gaining your legendaries with a pretty decent droprate, where skills exchange their "element" for example, a physical attack now counting as earth damage, opens up the talentrrees and tinkering to make a build around the gear you have pretty exciting.

So, is it great? No, not yet. I foresee a plateau of of endgame where people feel "done" with the game quickly, But, with the hope as how D3 had free patch and (minor) content updates a few times a year with seasons, here's hoping D4 will have the same treatment, that new content, items, difficulties and talentbuilds will be available rapidly, together with some (hopefully not overpriced) expansion DLC packs with a new class and story act. But so far, it's a pretty good game.

    Character:
    - 82 Barb with 60-70h playtime
    - All Lilith Altars
    - All Dungeons completed
    - Maxed out Renown in all zones

    Positive:
    - Amazing cinematics
    - Very good graphics
    - Great looking gear on character
    - No problems at launch

    Neutral:
    - Combat feels OK in higher levels
    - Big open world but always the same Monsters
    - Damage numbers in the millions again
    - Aspect System is meh
    - Scaling is OK but needs some improvements
    - Party play is fun but messy and cluttered
    - Runs smooth but sometimes annoying rubberbanding here and there
    - Horse is great but clunky
    - Cool looking World Bosses with some OK mechanics but way too easy
    - Story is OK but nothing special. Some illogical things but it was still fun to play the story. I listened to all the dialogues and did many optional quests.

    Negative:
    - Very boring and repetitive endgame. You don't have real goals like big bosses, character improvements or chase Items (there are some uniques but it doesn't feel like I want them).
    - Bad Itemisation, item progression doesn't feel good and it's the same as in D3: many legendary effects are mandatory for the builds.
    - Bad UI. It is extremely noticeable that it is a console port.
    - Absolutely no QoL for PC (e.g. stash search, /commands, clunky Horse, combat log, death log, and many many more issues)
    - No build diversity
    - No chance to find a group ingame. You have to use the D4 Discord.
    - No trading. Also at discord and very impractical.
    - A lot of backtracking in dungeons.
    - No Crafting. Like in D3 you just can reroll one stat.

It's like that with almost all ARPGs: at a certain point you ask yourself why you're actually doing what you're doing. Do I still have a real goal? In Diablo 4, unfortunately, this comes after a very short time. You could say it's just like Diablo 3 and Blizzard didn't learn anything from the fact that players quit the seasons after a few days.

I really hope that Blizzard will listen to all the criticism. There is still a lot to optimize. Not only small things. So far, I am pretty disappointed by what has been developed in about 7(?) years.

Other than the first act the story really falls of in every aspect.
Gameplay is repetitive and the combat is boring. There's really no builds to speak of for any class other than those shoehorned by blizzard.
Difficulty is laughably easy, it only gets relatively hard once you jump up a world tier and then get trivial again a few hours later. I'm too lazy to deep-dive into the specifics,

But the hype didn't last long. What we find is a barebones diablo game, that looks nice, true, but is lacking on all other fronts and seriously, is nothing but a let down. Lets start with the positives:

    PRO:
    - Game looks fantastic - World is immersive and grim
    - Sound is good
    - Combat feels nice
    - Its easy to get into the game
    - The game will probably be supported and enhanced for a long time to come

    CON:
    - Level scaling is HORRIBLE. Every level of your character does not strengthen your character, but in fact weakens him. - Power almost ONLY comes from items, nothing else (mostly due of the scaling)
    - After a short while you wi start to wonder, why you even play this game. You never really feel any stronger in a game about character progression and power fantasy. Enemies are always gonna stay the same strength relative to you (or even stronger)
    - No Runes/Runewords (which was promised)
    - No Set items
    - Currently no special unique items (that only drop in WT4, but are disabled without any notice)
    - No trading
    - Very few items in general
    - Very small amount of build diversity
    - Itemization is super bland (most aspects are just X skill does 20% Increased Y)
    - No mercenaries
    - No farming act bosses
    - Only one pinnacle boss
    - Dungeons are largely boring and there are very few Dungeon bosses
    - No offline mode
    - No search function in your stash
    - No Group finder
    - Horrible mob density
    - many missing quality of life features from previous games.
    - and many more.. This game is super bare-bones, the world looks amazing, and the skills that do exist play smooth, but this game is basically a skeleton lacking any real depth, and for the AAA price tag it has, that isn’t enough for most people. On top of that, it feels that the number 1 priority for Blizzard was the console market, not the PC user and that shows.

I am very disappointed of the low quality of the game and how much content is missing. The money for all the crazy ad campaigns should have put in developer hours.

    - Implement gem only bag
    - Builds feel to "pre built" little room for creativity
    - World bosses could be more challenging

Generic, soulless and extremely repetitive gameplay. A lot of things copy pasted from Diablo 3. Graphic looks kinda good but it's the only advantage of this game. Not worth the price of 70$.

After over 100 hours in, i finally feel legitimate to share an honest opinion. First, i will say that I would rate D4 9 out of 10, but i put in an extra point just to balance all the over-the-top backlash.
The visuals and music are refreshing and polished, story is good and we can tell that this is only the first chapter in a broader scenario, the open-world is well handled, the launch

But here are the things this game does best imo :
The activities are quite varied and you always have at least 3 different things to do that don't feel like a waste of time. Basically, you are free to hop from one thing to another and still feel like you're making great progress.
Customization is amazing : the glyphs, talents, the absence of sets and the abundance of different legendary passives create a ton of different ways to optimize and try stuff, even within one particular gameplay, which is great when you compare that to previous Blizz titles such as Wow or Diablo 3. Of course, min-maxers will always find that one combination that performs 1% better than all the rest, but most players will just enjoy to have the freedom of choice to find what they enjoy best.

There's so much more to say ; in my opinion, the main cons for this game are the lack of space in the inventory and some clarity issues with the attacks of certain enemies that can track and stun you, but that's overall really minor in comparison to the pros.
The more i play it, the more I appreciate all the choices the dev team made. I'm totally sure that most of the ratings below 5 are people who played for less than 10 hours. D4 definitely deserves a try and it does not disappoint.

ActiBlizz, ahead of it's time, created a new monetization method, the "Pay 2 Pay", where you pay a full premium price to get a ripped off game and pay even more for the battle passes to get the full product.

This is garbage in it's most pure form. And giving it a "positive" feedback will just make this a new standard. Remember those idiots playing and paying for Diablo Immortal? So,

Garbage game from a garbage company.

Diablo IV, the much-anticipated entry in the renowned franchise, falls disappointingly short of its predecessors and fails to carve its own path. As an ardent fan of the series, it pains me to say that Diablo IV feels like a shadowy imitation of other successful action RPGs, lacking the depth, gameplay, and substance that makes games like Diablo II and Path of Exile so beloved. As an ardent fan of the series, it pains me to say that Diablo IV feels like a shadowy imitation of other successful action RPGs, lacking the depth, gameplay, and substance that makes games like Diablo II and Path of Exile so beloved. While the graphics and cinematics stand out as commendable, the overall experience leaves much to be desired.

First and foremost, Diablo IV shamelessly borrows systems from games like Path of Exile and Lost Ark, but disappointingly waters them down. Rather than innovating and introducing captivating new mechanics, Blizzard seems content with imitating without adding any meaningful improvements. This lack of originality and the diluted nature of these borrowed systems fail to evoke the same excitement and engagement as their inspirations.

One of the most glaring issues with Diablo IV is its noticeable lack of gameplay and substance. The game feels like a hollow shell, offering little depth or complexity in comparison to a certain predecessor. Diablo II and Path of Exile set the bar high with their intricate skill systems, diverse character builds, and engaging endgame content. In contrast, Diablo IV feels shallow and fails to provide the same level of depth and long-lasting appeal.

Lazy development practices are also at the fore-front of Diablo IV. One example of this is the level scaling. Whenever your character levels up, all the monsters around you level up too. This can actually result in your character getting weaker whenever you level up.

Repetition quickly becomes a prevalent issue in Diablo IV. The lack of varied and engaging content leads to a monotonous gameplay loop that loses its charm all too quickly. Quests and encounters become predictable, and the lack of meaningful progression or impactful choices dampens the sense of excitement and exploration that should be inherent in any good action RPG.

While Diablo IV's graphics and cinematics deserve some praise for their visual fidelity and production value, they become the sole redeeming features in an otherwise lackluster experience. The haunting atmosphere and impressive visual effects do little to make up for the game's shortcomings in terms of gameplay depth and overall substance.

Blizzard's sales and marketing practices surrounding Diablo IV are questionable at best. The exorbitant pricing for the game is difficult to justify, especially when compared to other outstanding titles like Path of Exile, which offers a superior experience at no cost. The base edition's price tag of $70 and the ultimate edition's $100 price point appear predatory, preying on the loyalty of dedicated fans while failing to deliver a truly exceptional experience. For the same price as the $70 base edition of Diablo IV, you could buy Last Epoch, Grimdawn (plus both expansions), and Torch Light 1, 2 and 3. Not to mention games like Path of Exile and Lost Ark which come at no cost.

Diablo IV feels like the older sibling of Diablo Immortal with a heavy price tag, lacking the ambition, innovation, and passion that fans have come to expect from the franchise. It fails to carve its own identity, leaving players yearning for a fresh and transformative experience that matches the legacy of the earlier Diablo titles.

In conclusion, Diablo IV disappoints on multiple fronts. It imitates successful systems without improving upon them, lacks the gameplay and substance of its predecessors, succumbs to repetition, and relies heavily on its visuals to compensate for its deficiencies. Blizzard's development, sales and marketing practices and the steep price tag only amplify the sense of disappointment. As an avid fan, I can't help but feel that Diablo IV falls short of capturing the essence that made the franchise so beloved, leaving me longing for a more remarkable and memorable experience.

Always online SINGLEPLAYER??? I've never felt more scammed after buying a game in my entire life. Thank god that i had the option to refund the game. Also why is there no music in the game? Did Blizzard go cheap on the music too?

Blizzard's latest legalised scam. The cycle for a Blizzard scam:
    - Release something disguised as a game for $70. Get glowing reviews by shills like IGN.
    - After reviews are in and the consumer base grows, add in "cOsMetIC oNlY" macroscamsactions. - Slowly over time add in more and more pay to win and gambling elements, balancing player drop rate with the increase in money earned

    - Slowly over time add in more and more pay to win and gambling elements, balancing player drop rate with the increase in money earned through this scam, until the player base left is whales.
    - Everyone who bought the game got milked for at least $70. The "cOsMetIc oNlY" drones got scammed during that stage of the scam. Once they've made billions and only whales are left, they milk the whales for billions more with absurd pay to win and gambling mechanics.

This is not a game, therefore I can't rate it as a game. This is a giant scam disguised as a game. This is legalised daylight robbery. We need government intervention in the gaming industry ASAP. Expecting everyone to abstain from paying for an advantage or a cool item is just as silly as expecting the public to police bad people for free, which is why we have governments funded by the public so we can have services such as police, roadworkmen, etc. These are jobs that people wouldn't do for free and no one would pay for, just like no one will stop buying these scams unless the government intervenes.

Bring back the gaming industry. Let's have government intervention to stop these billionaire thieves from destroying an entire industry that's supposed to bring joy to people.

It’s almost like Diablo 4 developers are consciously fighting against everything that made classic Diablo fun. [Issue#262, p.80]

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.

The best Blizzard launch in a long time and a worthy game to be called Diablo.
