Okami is a massive and remarkable game and is on the short list of my favorite games of all time. It's also the closest thing to The Legend of Zelda that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One gamers will ever get. If you've never had the joy of experiencing Okami before, picking up this newest version will likely be your smartest gaming purchase of the year.

The God of War series has undergone a fantastic transformation. I'll miss the fixed camera and tales of revenge that previous titles provided but this new evolution makes for a far superior and profound experience. It's one of the best games of this generation.

Dreams is such an astounding creative experience that I highly recommend it to every PS4 owner. Even if you're uncreative and cynical, it's difficult not to appreciate what Dreams and its community of creators have to offer.

Shadow of the Colossus on PlayStation 4 looks amazing and the modern control scheme makes it more playable than ever. No matter which way you slice it, Shadow of the Colossus remains one of the most enjoyable and cinematic games of all time.

It may not feature perfect ports but Castlevania Requiem still contains 2 of the best games ever made. However, after playing through these gems, it's hard not to feel bittersweet. On one hand, the era of perfectly crafted gaming experiences has passed in favour of Hollywood-style rubbish and wannabe indie developers. On the other, enjoying these timeless classics again is an absolute treat.

If you enjoy Metroidvania games even a little bit then picking up Castlevania Advance Collection should be a no-brainer. The included titles have held up beautifully and they're each jam-packed with monster-slaying good times. Here's hoping for Castlevania DS Collection.

Dark Souls is one of the greatest video games of all time and my personal favourite Soulsborne game to date. Thankfully, this Remastered version helps make it even better; if only in an arguably marginal way.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch will always be one of the best JRPGs ever. It perfectly combines a heartfelt story of a young lad on a mission with supremely enjoyable gameplay all set in a breathtaking world.

With copious amounts of variety, a delightful presentation, rewarding collectibles, an absurd amount of references, and cuteness to spare, ASTRO BOT is one of the best 3D platformers ever created. It's essentially a tribute to gaming as a whole.

Monster Hunter: World is an exceptional gaming experience that provides a ridiculous amount of content. Whether you're hunting on your own or with online pals, the exciting combat and subsequent rewards make for one satisfying monster hunting adventure.

The games in Castlevania Dominus Collection are just as awesome as they were when they first released. Well, except for Haunted Castle Revisited which is much better; even to the point where you can consider it a brand new must-have old-school Castlevania.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE is one of the greatest JRPGs of all time. However, if you already own the Wii U version, there's little reason to buy it again on Switch. That being said, the new follow-up attacks, improved performance, and story content are nice treats.

Trine 2 is one of the greatest video games ever made and this Complete Story version is the best way to play it so far, especially with the Switch's portability. If you enjoy 2D puzzle platformers, you have to own this masterpiece.

Although I still find the original Dark Souls to be FromSoftware's magnum opus, Elden Ring is an undeniably amazing game. At the end of the day, it's sure to delight most Souls veterans but it probably won't convert many non-fans.

SAROS takes what made Returnal such a epically awesome action game and turns the dial way up while simultaneously offering such a distinct and immersive game world that it'll haunt your dreams even long after the end credits roll.

Control is truly unforgettable with loads of ways to play, terrific acting, lots to explore, satisfying gunplay and abilities, and a spectacular world and story to experience. I can't wait to dive back in with the couple of DLC packs already planned.

Dragon Quest Heroes II takes everything that was amazing about the first game and fixes all of the major gripes that I had with it. I highly recommend it for any Dragon Quest or arena fighting fan and hope this is a sign of more incredible Dragon Quest games to come.

With 8 classic games from an iconic series, Castlevania Anniversary Collection is a must-play compilation for any gamer whether you're a retro junkie or you simply want to explore the roots of gaming. If you'll excuse me, I have to slay Dracula for the umpteenth time.

Even if you already own and perhaps mastered Burnout Paradise, this Remastered version is worth getting just to experience the near-perfect racing thrills all over again on your current generation console. Thanks, EA for doing something very cool by releasing this.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure accomplishes what few modern games do by simply offering an unabashedly lighthearted world that's bursting with joy, fun, and plenty of laughs. It's an absolute must-have for any gamer who enjoys co-op experiences.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is definitely darker than its predecessor but that doesn't hurt its awe-inspiring setting, fun stealthy combat, oodles of rewarding collectibles, and suspenseful action that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Baldur's Gate 3 is an outstanding achievement in game design, character-based storytelling, and player choice. So, if you've been hesitating to play it like I have then don't be a goof and check it out already; you almost certainly won't regret it.

Rogue Legacy 2 is simply one of the best indie games ever. It manages to stay true to the original while forging its own identity in ways that make it stand out as unique and ultimately superior. You'd be a complete goof if you don't enjoy every second of it.

Tales of Arise is a masterpiece with a deep story and endearing cast that will keep you hooked as you fight for freedom from tyrants. Meanwhile, the action-intense battles are great fun as you plan your moves to take down enemies as efficiently as possible. Exploring the dungeons and overworld is a joy, too, especially with new map abilities that make traversal engaging. It's the best Tales yet.

I can't say enough good things about Sundered. Developer Thunder Lotus Games took some risks by trying a few new things and fortunately, they all paid off. The visuals are top-notch, the combat is excellent, the upgrade system is robust, and the exploration is on-point. Sundered isn't just the best indie game I've played this year but one of the best games I've ever played period.

Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy may not be a title on everyone's lips but it's certainly game of the year material. With a wide variety of abilities and mechanics and astoundingly adaptive gameplay (especially for co-op play), it's quite the achievement in game design.

Advance Wars 1 and 2 are timeless classics and I know those are big words but these games are deserving of that honour. I was obsessed with Advance Wars 2 back in the day and now, I'm loving the franchise yet again. Plus, fans of the series can rest easy knowing that Nintendo hasn't abandoned the Advance Wars franchise and it makes me wonder what's next.

If I were to rank the Xenoblade games then I would say Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a step below the original yet a more rewarding experience than Xenoblade Chronicles X. Either way you look at it, what's here is a memorable and impressively epic tale filled with optimism and that's just what the world needs now.

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One is a masterpiece of a detective game as it manages to deliver a thoroughly enjoyable open-world adventure with an interesting cast, stunning environmental visuals, and highly immersive and engaging sleuthing gameplay. The fact that I was having such an awesome time made dealing with the odd progression issue worth it as I loved taking in all of the sights and stories.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an awesome and unforgettable adventure and I'm happy to say that the Zelda series is still killing it in 2023. With that being said; please, Nintendo: we really need to experience a brand new Hyrule in the next Zelda game.

Even as a huge fan of the series, I'm still in disbelief how incredible of a game Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream is. It's so jam-packed with outstanding gameplay and irresistible charm that it has single-handedly become the new gold standard for JRPGs.

Returnal absolutely blew me away with its challenging combat, atmospheric exploration, amazing sound design, and rewarding campaign setup. Housemarque crammed a ton of elements into this experience and everything comes together brilliantly.

Evoland and its clever riff on gaming culture and history is perfect for long-time gamers while Evoland 2 is a fantastic RPG that belongs in the top echelon of indie games. However, this bundle is currently held back by bugs that will hopefully be ironed out soon.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is a collection of the best Ace Attorney games yet with a top-notch cast, loads of thrilling cases, and oodles of extras. On top of all that, multiple new gameplay elements reinvigorate the standard formula both in and out of court. In the end, this is a must-buy for fans of the series as well as anyone who enjoys solving a good mystery or 10.

Overall, I'm gushing about how much I loved AI: The Somnium Files. The quality of characters and story mixed with the variety of gameplay and fun investigative segments make it a must-own for fans of Japanese detective games.

When it comes to either VR games or 3D platformers, you can't do much better than Astro Bot: Rescue Mission. In fact, its incredible world and super-satisfying gameplay make it my favourite new game of 2018 so far.

Super Mario 3D World is an excellent game so if you still haven't played it or simply want it on Switch, this will make a wonderful addition to your gaming library. Oh, and you also get a fantastic bonus game with Bowser's Fury so how could you go wrong?

It's awesome. It perfectly nails how progression should be incorporated in video games and its gameplay is an addictive marriage of mining, exploration, platforming, and combat.

Nioh 3 is a superbly enjoyable culmination of action RPG fun and its open environments are bursting with so much rewarding content that it's hard to put it down whenever you start playing. It may be a big change of pace but I'm incredibly happy with everything it offers.

METAL GEAR SOLID DELTA: SNAKE EATER takes an already awesome game and enhances it in profound ways that'll impress everyone from newcomers to long-time fans. It does such a phenomenal job that I wish every remake could remain this true yet be this innovative.

Pokemon Pokopia delivers an adorably joyful experience that unfolds at your own pace and provides a canvas for unbridled creativity.

Even with its slight shortcomings, ELDEN RING Shadow of the Erdtree is the best expansion that I've ever played thanks to its unique-feeling world that behaves more like a 1.5 sequel than a mere extension of what players have come to expect.

I'm blown away by how well Kena: Bridge of Spirits - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition holds up, especially considering it released almost 5 years ago and I had just as much fun playing through it now than I did back then. Slight visual downgrade aside, this is a near-perfect port.

Everything in God of War Ragnarok is carefully crafted to create a superb experience both cinematically and when it comes to gameplay. It may not break any new ground in the world of gaming but what's here is still undeniably awesome.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is a top-notch flight combat game with one of the best VR implementations that you'll ever have the joy to experience. Simply put, the variety of challenging and memorable missions, breathtaking sights and sounds, fun online multiplayer, and super-tight gameplay make it a must-have game for anyone with a fondness for the genre.

Forza Horizon 5 introduces a larger, more varied map with even more weather effects and interesting challenges. The same enjoyable gameplay hasn't lost its momentum and there's enough to do that will keep you hooked for hours on end.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is an impressive experience that will stay with you for a very long time. As you gradually unwrap its intricate game world that's packed with some of the best stage designs ever, the sense of accomplishment is simply unmatched.

Super Mario Odyssey is an incredible adventure that every Mario fan and Switch owner needs to experience. Although it's not quite perfect, what's here is undeniably the next must-have Nintendo masterpiece.

Donkey Kong Bananza is one of the most unique and immensely enjoyable games that I've ever played. Plus, behind its chaotic open-ended gameplay and incredibly imaginative worlds, you'll find a lot of heart.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is an impressively challenging RPG with an engaging story and enjoyable adventuring mechanics that will make you want to keep exploring its gorgeous world which is filled with memorable environments, creatures, and characters.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is a top-notch RPG with a challenging battle system and varied world. Once I started playing, I couldn't put it down as it continued to capture my imagination with its enjoyable exploration and heartwarming story.

Dead Cells is undoubtedly one of the best games I've played all year. It implements both roguelike and Metroidvania elements divinely and features smooth and exciting combat with controls that will leave you aching for just one more run.

With its frantic new modes and spot-on gameplay, playing Mario Golf: Super Rush is the most amount of fun I've had with a sports game in a very long time. Throw in that iconic Nintendo charm and comprehensive multiplayer and you're left with a hole-in-one.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an absolute joy to play as it's an undeniably rewarding adventure set in a deeply immersive world. Although the experience is weighed down by a few minor problems, the overall journey is one that no gamer will soon forget.

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy contains an awesome collection of some of the most varied and bizarre cases in the whole franchise complete with bonuses for diehard fans and plenty of quality-of-life improvements. This is a collection that mystery fans cannot miss.

FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH takes what made REMAKE work and expands on the formula in nearly every way imaginable from its rewarding combat and exploration to its absolutely hilarious humour. As a long-time fan, I'm incredibly happy with what it has to offer.

Ghost of Yotei provides an exceptionally impressive adventure that any fan of open-world action games will adore. All of its many elements come together wonderfully and it's all wrapped up in such gorgeous visuals that you'll remember the journey for years to come.

Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 are a couple of the best 3D platformers ever and this brand new Switch release is the optimal way to experience them so whether you're a long-time fan or have never played them before, they'll surely send your fun meter to outer space.

Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince is a masterclass in 2D puzzle platforming. From its beautifully fantastical world to its mind-bending scenarios, you're bound to love every minute of this lighthearted adventure.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 continues the series' grand-scale story-telling in a masterful way. With its endearing cast of characters, awe-inspiring sense of exploration, and a soundtrack that will blow you away, this is yet another top-notch offering from Monolith Soft.

After playing a couple of great AAA 3D platformers earlier this year, I'm absolutely blown away that I enjoyed Kena: Bridge of Spirits even more. With thoroughly challenging fast-paced combat, rewarding puzzles, and a breathtaking world; it's one phenomenal game.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is an incredibly enjoyable RPG and it brought back great memories of the Suikoden series. Collecting the heroes and having them join you in battle while you build your base and protect the land is just as fun as it was decades ago.

As a fantastic representation of perhaps the most underrated series in platformer history, KLONOA Phantasy Reverie Series is a must for anyone with a soft spot for lighthearted yet tricky puzzle platforming fun. I hope this means KLONOA 3 will be a thing at some point.

As a long-time fan of grid-based dungeon crawlers, I'm delighted to say that Saviors of Sapphire Wings and Stranger of Sword City Revisited are 2 of the best examples of what the genre is capable of. If you love a challenge, I highly recommend picking up this pack.

Blaster Master Zero was a phenomenal remake of an 8-bit classic so being able to finally enjoy a true sequel is an absolute treat. If you're up for a challenging and rewarding retro experience then playing Blaster Master Zero 2 is a must.

It's been a long time since the original Phoenix Wright games released so this is the perfect excuse to play through them again and re-experience the thrill of each case. Also, the updated presentation is handled so well that it feels like a brand new collection of games.

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom is a phenomenal game and one of the best Metroidvanias ever made. The amount of challenging fun packed into its massive and enjoyable world makes every moment of gameplay an absolute joy.

It Takes Two is a cooperative gaming experience like no other. Its gameplay sometimes takes a back seat to the overall spectacle of the adventure but even when that happens, it's hard not to enjoy every minute of this incredible journey.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is an RPG that raises the bar in many ways with an engaging battle system and intriguing story that's set in a beautiful and unique world. It's definitely limited in a few ways, though, but not so much to take away from its must-play status.

Metroid Prime Remastered is an awesome remaster of an awesome game that remains one of Samus' most iconic adventures so anyone who loves Metroid or first-person games in general should definitely play it. She has certainly come a long way since her NES debut.

I'm blown away that Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess seemingly came out of nowhere and it's as awesome of a game as it is. From its exciting strategic combat to its gorgeous moments of downtime all wrapped in outstanding audio, I absolutely can't wait for a sequel.

When it comes to impressive video game sequels, Unravel Two is up there with the best. Its awe-inspiring world and pitch-perfect gameplay make it one of the best 2D platformers ever created. I can't wait for Unravel Three.

Paper Mario: The Origami King is a hilarious game with a ton of variety in its world and a clever new puzzle-based battle system. There's so much fun to be had that if you don't already own a Switch, this will act as a fantastic reason to go out and get one.

With almost 50 levels, multiple difficulties, and four medals to unlock in each stage, Octahedron has enough content to keep players busy for hours. Overall, it's a smart, fresh, and creative platformer that stands tall with modern indie classics like Super Meat Boy.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III is one of the best JRPGs ever made and this Thors Academy Edition is a wonderful treat for fans of the franchise so if you enjoy adventuring with Rean then you'll treasure this very special package.

Masters of Anima caught me completely off guard but in a very good way. It controls fabulously considering how much is going on, the challenge level is accessible but far from easy, levels are fun to explore, and the combat is a joy to master.

Kirby Air Riders is so full of variety, hearty challenges, and pure joy that I highly recommend it to anyone who relishes unconventional gaming experiences. Plus, its online component is so well implemented that it may just be my new go-to game for multiplayer fun.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered offers a fresh coat of paint to a game that was already boasting beautiful graphics, bringing it on par with its sequel. If you've never played it before, it's a great excuse to get into the series and if you have already completed it then the low cost of the upgrade is a good excuse to relearn the lore and dig into a New Game+.

TEKKEN 8 is an awesome fighter that's only matched with Street Fighter 6 as a true definition of what the genre should be.

Unicorn Overlord Collector's Edition is one of the best surprises of the year because the base game is incredible and the physical extras really expand on the core experience in clever ways. It's such a unique strategic funfest that I highly recommend checking it out.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World takes an already awesome game and makes it even better. From the lovely and challenging Star-Crossed World levels to all-new challenges and adorable collectibles, it's a real mouthful.

Everspace does so much right. It has an engaging story and immersive visuals that make you feel like you're in a Star Wars film and combat that always keeps you on the edge of your seat because even the weakest enemies can overwhelm you.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night carries on the tradition of classic Igavania games in a masterful way. As a long-time fan of the genre, I personally can't wait for additional DLC as well as the inevitable sequel.

Street Fighter 6 is an incredible experience that any fan of fighting games will thoroughly appreciate. With 3 very different modes of play that'll appeal to basically anyone, I can easily say that this is one must-have fighter.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is a more mature take on RPGs that delivers something quite different while maintaining enjoyable and somewhat familiar gameplay. Plus, mastering archetypes, exploring dungeons, and fighting for the crown is handled with perfect pacing.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is a classic RPG with a perfect blend of turn-based combat and adventuring complete with a rewarding unlockable abilities system that encourages you to explore every nook and cranny. Plus, its updated graphics, hilarious humour, and welcome gameplay improvements make it more accessible than ever.

Mario Kart World is the definitive kart racer with its variety of themes, characters, and vehicles as well as the frenzied new Knockout mode.

Splatoon 2 is bursting at the seams with enjoyable ink-splattering fun both in its gameplay and presentation. With loads of ways to play and tons of rewarding goodies to discover, Splatoon 2 is clearly the next must-have Switch game.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne takes what was great about the base game and provides more of it. There are so many weapons and gear choices that it feels like you are your character. Plus, the battles are epic and the new areas look amazing.
