Its impressive world is enjoyable to explore and the story kept me interested enough to see it to its conclusion although it is very linear and the writing could definitely be improved.

Spirit Valor is an RPG that's sure to satisfy if you're looking for a characterful story and a clever magic system. Outside of these elements, things start to feel a little hollow, though, such as the barebones sense of exploration.

If you own a PlayStation 4 or Vita then at this point, you're better off purchasing the superior original Don't Die, Mr. Robot! However, for those who only own a Switch, what's here is definitely worth checking out, especially if you love unique arcade-style experiences.

Syberia - Remastered is a classic adventure game and this new iteration certainly delivers a unique clockpunk aesthetic that the series is known for. It's still difficult to move around and there are bugs but if you're a fan of adventure games, you'll be happy to play this.

I had a solid time with Elsie and would love to see a sequel that irons out its more confusing aspects and pacing issues. As it is, its gameplay and pixel-perfect graphics are certainly the stars of the show so check it out if you dig 2D action games.

REYNATIS features some of the best combat that I've enjoyed in an action RPG. Unfortunately, outside of fighting and a few interesting moments, there really isn't much to hold your attention for long so it's best to rush towards your next thrilling encounter.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Shadows: Awakening and hope that the developers eventually work on a sequel that irons out all of its issues. Until then, this is a mostly solid action RPG that's worth checking out.

Touhou Genso Wanderer is a capable Mystery Dungeon game but it doesn't quite live up to its contemporaries. That being said, those who crave more classic roguelike fun after last year's phenomenal Shiren release will find a lot to love here.

Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution is a lovely game with a fun-filled story. It may have many recycled elements and stages from the previous game but more often than not, it's still a treat to play.

Fans of old-school RPGs who love open-ended campaigns will have a fantastic time with Romancing SaGa 3. Just keep in mind; the adventure within will contain plenty of frustrating moments, especially if you don't use a guide.

As one of the better Olympic Video Games, Tokyo 2020 provides a lot of fun whether you prefer playing solo, with a friend, or with folks online. Also, not all of its events may be gold medal worthy but its charming presentation certainly is.

Even though The Lego Ninjago Movie Video Game is full of fun moments that you can enjoy with a pal, constant technical issues and repetitive gameplay hold it back from being the next great Lego game. That said, long-time fans of these blocky video game adventures will surely have a blast in yet another vibrant and memorable plastic world.

The Lightbringer is a beautiful game that'll appeal to anyone who enjoys 3D platforming with elaborate puzzle-filled stages. I wish that it was a bit more forgiving with its continue system, though, as playing through a lengthy stage again can be a huge pain in the tuchus.

Of course, not everyone will enjoy Contra: Rogue Corps but I certainly did. Between its crazy presentation and challenging gameplay, it's definitely a tough game to put down. If you're looking for a more classic Contra formula then play Blazing Chrome instead.

Although Mario Party: The Top 100 contains an impressive amount of mini-games that are still super-fun to play, the modes to enjoy the mini-games within are unfortunately lacking. That being said, if you're looking for a comprehensive Mario Party experience that you can enjoy with a few friends on the go then this is one collection that you should definitely not overlook.

If you're looking for a simple and addictive puzzler that features plenty of insane cartoon violence and horror references then Slayaway Camp: Butcher's Cut is a must-buy game. However, if you enjoy it too much then please do society a favour and see a psychiatrist.

Fracked is a promising cover-and-shoot VR FPS for PS4. If it featured a longer campaign and smoothed-out difficulty then I'd consider it a must-have for the platform. For now, I hope to eventually play a sequel that expands on this very epic formula in such a manner.

Blazing Chrome is an authentic retro run 'n' gun experience that'll surely satisfy genre fans. That being said, there are many frustrating moments that are difficult to overlook and the amount of content is a little thin, too.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Jinshin and hope to see many more RPGs with a similar fantastical take on Japanese culture. It may be simple at its core but it's also hard not to appreciate the wealth of unique content that it has to offer.

Gigantic: Rampage Edition is a lot of fun and I'm very happy that they brought it back after years of being left in the gaming graveyard. It may not be a huge step up but what's here is still sure to entertain anyone who loves a chaotic online funfest.

If you've ever thought that operating a guard post sounds like a mundane job then check out Lil' Guardsman where every person you admit or deny has a big impact on the fate of the city. This hilariously silly indie has heart, making the most tedious of jobs entertaining.

Transformers: Battlegrounds is an excellent SRPG for fans of the franchise. Although genre veterans may find it to be a bit too simplistic, it's still a solid and rewarding experience that anyone can enjoy, especially genre beginners.

Doraemon Story of Seasons: Friends of the Great Kingdom is an enjoyable sequel with attractive graphics, a heartwarming story, and the addition of an impressively useful buddy system. It's got some quality of life improvements, too, which is great. In the end, fans of Story of Seasons will have a lot of fun tending to their animals and crops while unlocking silly gadgets with Doraemon and friends.

Although it has its shortcomings, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Infinite Links. Its thoughtful cast of characters and satisfying party customization elements are more than enough to keep you entertained from start to finish.

Sakura Wars is an easy title to recommend to anyone looking for a layered game world populated by a cast of memorable characters. However, those who prefer a more immediately rewarding adventure will likely get exhausted by its story-heavy setup.

Sophstar is a good vertical shmup that's bursting with many unique controllable ships so it makes for quite a varied and fulfilling arcade shooting experience. It may have rather generic stages but its overall sense of non-stop action still puts it on my recommended list.

Alwa's Awakening offers a solid challenge and a great sense of exploration which makes it a satisfying experience. However, it's unfortunately dulled by mundane combat and an overall feeling of sluggishness when it comes to movement and platforming.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy leaves an outstanding first impression but after playing it for a handful of hours, you'll realise that it doesn't really offer enough exciting gameplay to last its entire campaign. It's still a wonderful game to watch, though.

As a retro gamer with an affinity for all things Dig Dug and Bomberman, I had a fun time with Murtop and look forward to beating my high score again and again until I can be the best bomb-pooping bunny in all the land.

Even with its current amount of bugs and other rough-around-the-edges aspects, Park Beyond is a brilliantly imaginative simulation game that'll take you away to a carefree and fun-filled world where you can easily make the park of your dreams.

Taito Milestones 2 presents a good offering of 10 retro arcade games with some truly fun hidden gems and excellent shoot 'em ups along with a couple of the dumbest fighting games that I've ever played.

Robonauts' gunplay mechanics are pretty by the book but it's bolstered by colorful visuals and planet-hopping exploration. At only 12 levels, the campaign is a bit on the short side but Robonauts is still a fun little adventure.

Dandara's unique gameplay and trippy atmosphere make it a worthwhile gravity-defying Metroidvania but don't expect to enjoy it for very long because it'll be over much sooner than you'd hope.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is the sort of game that you play to wind down with after a long day. It's not very demanding or challenging yet the adventures within remain memorable, charming, and ultimately rewarding.

Tales of Symphonia is a classic action JRPG that's as enjoyable as it's ever been as long as you can sit through the load times and weren't expecting the sequel to be in this package. It's a fan favourite for a reason and I'm thoroughly enjoying playing through it for a 3rd time.

How to Survive 2 expands on the ideas of its predecessor with mixed results. On one hand, its enlarged scope and addition of base building adds longevity to the experience but on the other, its missions frequently feel monotonous and grindy.

As a fan of the Yakuza series, I had a good time with Like a Dragon but it could definitely use a lot of fine-tuning if there's ever another RPG-style sequel. Overall, I'm happy that it exists but I was hoping its combat would have been much better executed.

The library of PlayLink games has been growing a great deal recently so thankfully, Wordhunters is a worthwhile multiplayer experience that's filled with silly word-based mini-game mayhem.

Even with its flaws, Rolling Bob is such a delightful game to play yet it maintains a level of challenge that'll keep you on the edge of your seat. I can already tell that this is going to be one of the most underrated games of the year.
