Named after the developer's pet rabbit Murti and the Bartop style of arcade cabinet, Murtop feels a little different than your average retro '80s arcade throwback. And some of those differences might make things tough for it! [Issue #66 – July/August 2023, p. 21]

It’s been great seeing so many new games that throw back to the classic arcade era and actually seem to get it. Murtop is another one. Its roots may be a little too obvious, and I continue to bemoan the lack of online leaderboards in games like this, but it has a great presentation, plays well, and has an enjoyable scoring system to learn and master. That’s pretty much what I’m looking for in a game like Murtop, and as a result I can heartily recommend it to fans of vintage arcade games.

Murtop is an ’80s arcade throwback that will challenge your reactions and sense of timing in a whimsical (bordering on endearingly silly) world. It is sometimes frustrating working through a level to get things just right, but that’s the nature of the game. It’s a good dose of idle time fun for almost all ages.

As a retro gamer with an affinity for all things Dig Dug and Bomberman, I had a fun time with Murtop and look forward to beating my high score again and again until I can be the best bomb-pooping bunny in all the land.
