  • Summary: A bell begins ringing incessantly in your quarters. A frantic friend paces nervously as you awaken from your undead slumber. He warns you of invading humans! It is up to you to heed his words, arm yourself for battle, and venture out into your unprotected underground home.

    You are Skully,
A bell begins ringing incessantly in your quarters. A frantic friend paces nervously as you awaken from your undead slumber. He warns you of invading humans! It is up to you to heed his words, arm yourself for battle, and venture out into your unprotected underground home.

You are Skully, an undead skeleton whose sole purpose is to protect the dungeon he and many others call home. Along with your bat companion Imber, you will travel through sewers, lush underground nature preserves, and many other perilous environments. You will do so in the name of protecting your friends, guarding your treasures, and keeping hidden the dungeon's deepest secrets.

Skelattack puts an unconventional twist on your classic dungeon-crawler. Instead of playing the human hero fighting his way through the dungeon, killing all the baddies and pillaging all the loot, you play as one of the dungeon's typical skeleton NPCs. This is life (or rather, death) on the other side of the aisle: the plight of the creatures whose home is constantly under threat from those who reside above-ground.

Skelattack is a great game that is just missing that last little bit of polish to make it an essential play. If you like games with heart, if you'll pardon the phrase, you're not going to go far wrong with Skelattack.

Skelattack boasts one of the most unique premises and stories that I've had the pleasure of experiencing in a long time. If it featured tighter controls and better balancing when it came to its platforming challenges then it would be a must-play Metroidvania.

An acceptable game with a very good aesthetic and level design, but its metroidvania is not the best.

Skelattack nails its retro flavor with a very pleasing art style, but it fails in providing a compelling and satisfying platforming experience due to imprecise controls, a basic level design and too little content.

Skelattack is a 2d Action Platformer. You play as Skully, with his bat friend Imber, happy denizens of Aftervale. Skully is about to undergoSkelattack is a 2d Action Platformer. You play as Skully, with his bat friend Imber, happy denizens of Aftervale. Skully is about to undergo his Remembrance, a special ritual everyone undergoes to remember who they were. Before this can take place, the humans, who are after Immortality, attack Aftervale and capture the elder. Now you must go on a quest to save the elder and stop the oncoming invasion of the living. Skully and Imber have fun running dialogue throughout the game. The game itself is relatively short, leaving you unable to fully enjoy some of your final abilities. The art and animations are smooth, and cartooney, with a fun and almost cheery aesthetic. That being said, the gameplay isn't so cheery, as jumping feels heavy, and wall-jumping isn't easy, as the controls to do so, just don't feel right. You have to press the joystick left or right away from the wall to perform your wall jump, and this can prove extremely tricky when trying to time a jump off a wall-slide while dodging spikes. The game is loaded with checkpoints, which kind of dissolves the danger of dying, other than the fact that you lose a portion of your gems every time you die. They only stay there until your next death, so if you die again, they disappear. Skelattack is a fun and challenging platformer that may leave some players quite frustrated, but those who enjoy a good challenge will find this title may flesh out their library. Expand
