Call of the Sea has left a good taste in our mouths, a modest adventure of puzzles and narrative that poses some good puzzles and a very simple and unoriginal story, but that never takes on too much prominence and is followed with pleasure, achieving a good balance between all its parts. If you like riddles in their proper measure, without needing to leave you mentally exhausted, surely you are going to enjoy it.

The new ideas Kojima and his team have introduced are definitely steps in the right direction, making the game feel fresh and true to the series' soul. The biggest issue is that ends up feeling way too short, so many users will feel disappointed about it. Having more tutorials would be fantastic, as it would prevent players from wasting more time than necessary during the early stages of the game; some builds are blatantly superior to others, and consequently, some evolutions prove significantly more useful than others. The fact that we are sometimes dealt options that serve little purpose can make certain playthroughs feel repetitive or frustrating—leaving us with the sense that, no matter how hard we try, the odds are stacked against us. Yet, setting this aside—and without dwelling on the hype the game has generated within the indie gaming community—this entertaining adventure guarantees hours of fun, provided we know exactly what to expect and do not anticipate a reinvention of a genre that continues to demonstrate its boundless potential.
