It is surprising, and not a little depressing, that all people want to talk about with this game is the running time.

After the credits roll on the main mission and a handful of side activities unlock, the best part of Ground Zeroes is just getting started. With a dearth of secrets to find, and new challenges to master, chasing the endgame will keep you entertained for hours on end.

It's not an easy sell. In terms of gameplay it's two not all-too-long evenings of entertaining mission gameplay plus quite a few hours spent trying to leave a lasting impression on the numerous leaderboards. I don't regret one second I put into this, took it in with a lot of curiosity and wonder. Still, you can't shake the feeling that this would have been served better as part of The Phantom Pain. As a stand alone game, it's hardly essential.

It depends on whether you see this as a fan of the franchise or not to fully justify the price tag. In any case it's a good start for the upcoming new chapter of Hideo Kojima's series of tactical espionage.

Audacious is the word that best describes Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. It contains quality material, but it's little more than a preview of something better, and as such, simply should not be presenting itself - deceptively - as a game in its own right.

Yes, theMGS V: Ground Zeroes is a phenomenal game, and anyone saying it "is a demo" obviously does not understand how to play video games. Yes, the main story is short. But it is open ended; you can complete it when and how you see fit. Also, there is a large amount of additional storyline and content available by completing the side missions and challenges. You are able to get a lot of substance and storyline if you do all of the stuff and get all the collectibles.

Also, the graphics and lighting are stunning; FOXEngine is amazing and produces the best lighting, shadowing, and graphics in console gaming to date. I highly highly recommend this game and series.

Where phantom pain sucks, this demo did it right.
It allows you to go straight to the story without having to complete tons of fetch quests...(kill target, extract...rinse repeat..). The objectives simply to PUSH the story forward.

So in the name of being allowed to skip filler content and go straight to the story.

    STANDING OVATION!!!

P.S I got this game free from PS plus. I would be pissed if I paid 40$ for it. That's for sure. No matter how excellent it was, it's unethical to sell 2 hours of gameplay for that price.

I expected a short game, and that's what I got. I loved the graphics and the little bit of story it has is beautiful. Unfortunately as far as game play goes, I felt as if what I was playing wasn't Metal Gear at all. I'm up for change in some aspects, but I feel that this game has departed too far away from what made it an iconic, classic series what with Call of Duty style health regen, no roll attack, the lack of original sound effects, the whole no David Hayter thing, and the overall silliness of the series being left to die. And the story, it's my first MGS game and they try to bring me up to speed with scrolling texts, can you believe it?
Edit: turns out, you really shouldn't play this before MGS V: Phantom Pain. All the tutorials that are missing are all introduced in PP. Don't get Ground Zeroes, it's nonsensical and tedious. I don't understand why the developers nudge you into playing GZ before PP by saying GZ is the prologue to PP. GZ is just a half-baked unpolished piece of sht.
