    I beat this game in 23 minutes. It's $30. That's more than $1/minute.

Don't buy this game. Rent it for a day. Now that we've covered the fact that this is a $30 demo and a shameless cash-grab that will undoubtedly be a huge tarnish on the otherwise amazing reputation of our beloved Kojima, let's move on to all of the changes to the game itself.

0.) NO CODEC! - You know that little communication radio? The small feature that let you call people, save games, get help, get hints, hear funny conversations, etc? You know, the little thing that has been in EVERY major MGS release? Well now it's in ALMOST every major MGS release. The codec is gone.

1.) No more camo - You remember that small "active camouflage" mechanic in MGS4? You know, the little mechanic that basically defined the series? Yeah, well that's gone. And not just it, the entire camouflage concept all together.

2.) Inventory - The simple, streamlined inventory that was perfected over generations of MGS' is just gone. Period. The simple HUD inventory that would momentarily paused the game while you accessed it has been replaced with an ultra-generic D-PAD option we've seen in so many other games. It also doesn't pause the game. This is a lot more irritating than you'd think.

3.) Health/Stamina gauges - It turns out that we didn't need these either. MGS has now joined the ranks of health-less, stamina-less, auto-regenerating shooters. How progressive.

4.) Rations/Drugs - Naturally, without a concern for health or energy, we don't really need rations or medications anymore, right? So if you're looking for that fix of Diazepam and a warm can of rations, you've come to the wrong place.

5.) Combat - Among other things, the CQC system we've gotten used to over the years has also been modified with an unusual *MENU* that appears when subduing an enemy in combat. The ability to stick to walls has also been altered.

6.) No more mini-map - This is a bigger deal than it sounds. If you remember, the mini-map showed you the visual field of the enemies in addition to navigating complex areas. Now to access your map it requires going into an entirely different screen.

7.) No Hiding - No more hiding in trash-cans or closets. If you're trying to get away from an enemy your only option is to run.. or lay on your belly.

8.) No easter-eggs - This is a huge one. This is an ENTIRE GAME without any obvious/interesting easter-eggs, funny messages, clever conversations, entertaining posters or weird magazines.

9.) Super-Generic Level - There is only ONE TINY MAP IN THIS ENTIRE GAME. It's a generic, open military base with no buildings, no interesting hiding spots, nothing.

10.) No saving - Autosaves only.

11.) No more money - This means no more Drebin, no more purchasing guns or items and no more upgrading.

12.) No card-board box - What more do I need to say about this one?

I hate to use the word "fanboy," but the people who are saying things like "the negative comments clearly come from people who have never played a metal gear game in there life" [sic] or operating on the "if you don't agree with me you're wrong" -mentality might have a *tiny* bit of bias :).

$20 for 6-8 hours of gameplay, and people complain about it? All Kojima had to do was make the side missions mandatory over the course of the main campaign, and people wouldn't have a leg to stand on. $20 for a demo? Give me a break. The game is phenomenal.

The game is short but the gameplay is amazing, and the replay value is surprisingly hard.
The new stealth mechanics are amazing and the sound design is a thing of beauty that reminds me of classic games like Thief: The dark project.

There 5 Side missions in which some of them are action based and some are stealth based but they are as awesome as you would expect from Kojima. Fox Engine shines on PS4 and the game looks amazing and it is awesome to have MGS in 60FPS. In conclusion GZ is a must have for every stealth lover and MGS fan and no one is forcing you to buy this game if you think its too expensive, PP is not so far away....stay tuned for the main game people and rate this game fairly. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ground Zeroes is a prelude to the full MGS V The Phantom Pain, and is a nice surprise. It's a "little" AAA game focused on gameplay and with built-in replayability. It has both positives and negatives, which I'll discuss right away.

GZ is a sequel to MGS Peace Walker, and Big Boss has to rescue Chico and Paz from a US black site in Cuba. There is not much story-wise (Big Boss rescues Chico and Paz only to return to Mother Base and see it destroyed by the mysterious XOF and falls into coma after his helicopter was shot down) but it's interesting nonetheless as it sets the events of The Phantom Pain in motion. That scene in the helicopter (where Paz was operated) got into my stomach. Also, the cassette tapes flesh out the story, covering events prior to the mission. The only downside is that the main mission lasts about an hour, and can be completed in 5 minutes or so if you know what to do, skip the cut-scenes, and exploit some AI weaknesses.

The gameplay has been revamped from previous games and it's full open world and you can play as you see fit. The game is set in a single map where US troops patrol and you have to sneak past them, as per the series' tradition. It's easy to be seen by enemies if you run around carelessly, and from different positions too, so the slow motion reflex mode is a godsend as it gives you a chance to take out an enemy before he raises the alarm. Most useful is the tagging mechanic, as the base can have dozens of enemy patrols and you have to keep track of them. If you are spotted and pursued, enemies will hunt you down and try to surround you, and they are really good at shooting you down. If you evade them, they will search the base for quite a time. The one AI complaint I have is that, if you hold up an enemy and tell him to drop down to the floor, he will remain there indefinitely or until an alarm sounds. That is a leftover from Peace Walker and shouldn't be present. There are a few weapons to choose from, but nothing beats the silenced tranquilizer pistol. You can't carry more than 4 weapons at a time, gone is the ability to carry tons of different weapons around. A nice addition is the ability to drive vehicles, but it's strange that classic gameplay beats (cardboard box, knock on wall, etc.) are missing. The CQC mechanic is present and more refined than ever. The missions (1 main mission and 6 side ops) are varied enough and can be completed in normal and hard difficulty. There is even a side op which will bring nostalgia to MGS fans, as it is somewhat set in Metal Gear Solid's Shadow Moses Island. There are also collectables (XOF patches and cassette tapes) to pick up. Finally, if the player completes all missions, he can upload his save file to benefit in The Phantom Pain (you get some extra soldiers for Mother Base, like Hideo Kojima himself!).

Going into the technicalities, the game is powered by the Fox Engine, which delivers beautiful graphics, although the side missions set in day time look rather bland compared to the night based main mission, which looks really nice. The game runs at a perfect 60 fps on console which makes the game feel much smoother than in the past where performance was bad. No dropped frames, no screen tearing, no nothing. On the sonic side of things, the actors perform well enough in this short game. Kiefer Sutherland voices Big Boss in a Spartan way (meaning he doesn't speak much at all), but is really good. Miller, Huey, Skull Face, Paz and Chico sound convincing but have little dialogue to truly establish their characters. Sound effects are nice, though.

Overall, Ground Zeroes is a nice game. When it originally came out it cost $30 and caused controversy, regarding it's value as "a $30 demo" (comparing it to the mythical "free" MGS 2 demo from 2000, but that really wasn't free because you also had to buy the Zone of the Enders game, but whatever). Nowadays it costs much less, but even at $30 it was worth every penny. There are many full priced $60-70 games which don't come close to feature all the goodies GZ has to offer to the gamer. Buy the game and enjoy it.

If however you are not the most hardcore of an MGS fan avoid this purchase like the bubonic plaque and simply wait for the Phantom Pain.to determine whether or not this purchase is for you, you need to ask yourself one simple question... how much of metal gear fan am I? As for the game itself MGS Ground Zeroes picks up almost immediately after the events of peace walker and involves Naked Snake (AKA Big Boss) infiltrating a US blacksite known as Camp omega, a deliberate and shameless analogy to Guantanamo bay.the short but oh so sweet story is definitely among the most dark of the entire series, Kojima mainly explores themes of torture and loss as well as rape...Kojima certainly wasn't lying when he said that MGSV would explore taboo subject matters.

the gameplay is undoubtedly the best the series has ever seen, Big Boss moves with fluidity and it both looks and feels awesome. the emission of the HUD greatly augments the games immersion, and random enemy movement patterns keep you on the edge of your seat constantly. Enemy AI is also greatly increased, the day time missions can be incredibly difficult as enemies can spot you with ease, the evolution of enemy AI in my opinion validates the new reflex mode although if you're up for a real challenge it can be switched off. during combat enemies act much more naturally than previous titles, they charge flank and take cover on the harder difficulties they are indeed a force to be reckoned with

overall MGS Ground Zeroes is a welcome addition to the collections of longtime dedicated fans, otherwise consider a rent, a borrow, a wait for a sale, or an overall pass

+ What little you get for your money is a lot of fun.
    + The controls are 'solid'.
    - Quality is more important than quantity, but this game really is just too short.
    - The story was too short to make much sense.
    - Sub mission offer extra length but they're in the same location and aren't anything special.

Yes. This game is a ripoff. Konami should be ashamed of themselves. But then again, they don't seem to have any decent, marketable franchises anymore other than MGS (if they'd release a real Castlevania game they'd have two) so I guess maybe they need the money. In terms of content, there has been much controversy and honestly it is understandable to an extent however I have had my fair share of hours put into the game and still haven't quite finished with it yet. There is a lot to do in Ground Zeroes and yes the main story can be finished in 10 minutes but if you're going to buy a game to rush to the end and then leave it why bother buying it in the first place.

I was a little disappointed to see that knocking on walls had been removed from the game but there are also new features that have been added to the series. Vehicles can be driven for the first time and still contribute to the stealth factor. The codec conversations are still missing, as they were in Peace Walker, but again this is understandable as they wouldn't fit the tempo of the game as they did in other Metal Gear games.

Metal Gear fans will love this game and will find more to do than those alien to the Metal Gear series so this really is just fan service for Metal Gear fans, such as myself, and I wouldn't recommend Ground Zeroes to people that are new to the series.

My only real quarrel with Ground Zeroes is not the length and content but the price. Honestly, at release, the game should've been at least half of the price that it was retailed at. But other than that I really enjoyed Ground Zeroes. Hopefully we'll see more of the same in The Phantom Pain and be taken on another ruse cruse by Kojima.

Side missions and quests will keep you busy for hours 6-8 in fact, and most games now days are around 7-8 hours with FULL price tag so I don't know why many people here are complaining about it.

If its too pricey for you, then DON'T buy it, no body is forcing you but you WILL be missing out on a lot.

Why couldn't this be like dead rising 2 pre game? 5$ for a 4 hour game with 5x more content.
What your getting for 30$ is a game with a playtime of 1 hour and 30mins TAKING YOUR TIME! And mini games that last from 10 to 15 mins. Gets low replay value fanboys dont understand that this is nothing but a demo.

I picked it up at midnight and just finished for now to rest, coffe and write this review basically i got more than 9 hours out of this "2 hour demo". This is not cod = run gun through campaign ala rambo but to be fair its not the complete package but instead its a small chunk of glory, not the main course but absolutely delicious none the less , lets talk ground zeroes.

The main mission is indeed short but it doesnt end at the credits as many portray it actually is when the game begins. Side and extra ops = tons of replay period. You get graded by your stats which scale differently from op to op, S being the best grade. It also tracks all youre stats i.e longest headshot and trials mode pits your perfomance globally.

The game has tweaked combat, stealth and a.i to name a few and thats an achievement considering mgs as a whole. Bottom line this is 110 percent next gen mgs in every conceivable aspect period and is amazingly gorgeous tbh best looking current gen imo. The mechanics feel all so familiar to mgs fans bu polkished and refined in areas i thought couldnt get better. The map is open world and if you play a game like gtv 5 without doing side missions youre only cheating self in terms of overall exp and game life and same can be said here.
My psn pixelprov1 to prove i have the game and to all my fellow mgs fans buy this, rent this, PLAY this. Then send me a msg and call my a liar if im not stating facts. Not a game for everyone first off and a prologue to boot = disaster for those who this applies to which isnt meant to insult, mgs is very hard to pick up and play for casuals to begin with

From there we have arrived to this day, when he is really so arrogant that he will release a 60-90 min slice from a 60$ game and sell it for almost the full retail price. This is Kojimas new "practical joke" to the fans and gamers. He knows that the Metal Gear fans are so fanatic that they will grasp at this terrible fraud of a deal and defend their purchase to the death with arguments like "You can get 1500 hours from this if you just play it 1450 times! So it's a really good deal!". This is a demo. Nothing more. If you can get this for free, then go for it. Otherwise this is with the help of the mindless fans will set a dangerous example, which will be followed by EA and Activision and other publishers after that. If this fraud of a "game" does well, every single big release will eventually cut off 1 hour of the game and sell it for 40$ as "a prologue to help with the wait anticipation." Releasing this under the name "Metal Gear Solid 5" is nothing more than criminal fraud and Kojima and Konami should be sentenced to pay a hefty fine to discourage this kind of deceit toward customers. These guys complaining about the length are a joke. It's a fantastic game, and well worth the price. I didn't see anyone complaining about The Last of Us's $15 DLC. Yea, this costs $30, but there is twice as much content. Some people are raging and trying to prove some futile point. This game is great, and worth every penny. End of story.

Infuriatingly short. I can't even call this DLC quality content. It's more like a demo--like the ones I used to see included in my copies of PC Gamer years ago. In fact, I remember a Metal Gear demo around the time that took me longer to complete that this train wreck.

I've read quite a few of the reviews from the magazine lackeys, and I found them wanting (no surprise there). This game

I've read quite a few of the reviews from the magazine lackeys, and I found them wanting (no surprise there). This game looks *nice*, but it is by no means a PERFECT SCORE kind of impressive, even if you were to ignore the fact that it's a 30 dollar demo. The environment lacked almost anything in the way of impressive detail, and the story had the charm of a bad translation to an off-brand JRPG.

I'm embarrassed for Konami just as much as I am angry at them. Everything about this screams shameless greed, and claiming that this couldn't exist as a prologue within Phantom Pain is an affront to the intellect of all Konami's customers.

I've been a big fan of the series since the PlayStation One debut (I know there were earlier ones, I'm not counting them). Metal Gear games don't come out often, but when they do they're something special. Ground Zeroes is a prologue to the upcoming full game The Phantom Pain. It looks and plays fantastic and I think that any fan of Metal Gear's classic stealth gameplay will enjoy it.

The question I hear a lot is why this title is priced at $29.99. My first run lasted about 80 minutes and in the end I unlocked side missions, weapons, and a new Hard mode. And I'm going back to play it some more because it's that good. I suspect that I will play the heck out of it while I wait for Phantom Pain to come out and I'm glad they released this to tide me over until early 2015. It's worth the 30 dollars for me. I'd rather drop a title from my wish list to make space in my budget than to miss this prologue (sorry, Titanfall). I don't think I'd make a habit out of spending 30 dollars for prologues, but this is a special case for me. I'm glad I picked it up.

If you do, you'll see that i love this series, will always defend it but more importantly, I'll always be honest about my reviews! Well, lets get started. The graphics: simply amazing! I thought killzone shadowfall looked great but this games is amazing in the graphics department. The gameplay is the same except you can run by pressing L3 which is(in my own opinion) weird to due in a metal gear game. Controls: well they are essentially the same with some exceptions like running. The radio is accessed by pressing L2. Story: um....you might want to sit down for this if you haven't heard it from mr. Kojima himself but this is nothing more than a demo! But it revoles around saving paz and chico which doesn't exactly go as planned. Your in a military camp with plenty of open space to traverse but sadly this is where the problems comes into play for ground zeros. I want to say that this camp is snakes personal play ground but there's so little to do in it besides sneak around,go all out or die! Almost all buildings are locked! But you can enter vehicles which, in retrospect, makes this worse since there's little to do in your environment. The camo system has been removed and replaced with...um....nothing! They also removed the boxes, bandages, rations, back pain meds, stamina gage when hanging and just about anything else that made metal gear solid...well...metal gear solid. This games atmosphere is far from any metal gear game, meaning, i didnt feel like i was playing metal gear but some sort of cheap knock off of metal gear! Why? Well, everytime you vet noticed, the game slows down time for you, giving you MORE than enough time to head shot any enemies who spotted you thus ending the alarm status if successful and you will be successful, and this is where this demo differs from previous entries in this great series. The metal gear mood has been replaced with your typical main stream third person shooter. Automatic health regen takes away the strategy that came with rations....i dont care about this game being short because this is nothing more than a cash grab demo which i rented. No one should buy this game, NO ONE! Fan or not, this demo sbould be avoided even by hardcore mgs fans. I see this demo being released along with the game of the year edition of the phantom pain! There's nothing exactly wrong with this demo with five extra missions but as far as metal gear games go...phantom pain seems to be heading in a different direction even though past metal gear games can still work! I give this demo what it actually deserves....5/10!! Since there's no way on this earth that ANYONE will keep playing this short demo with five missions that take place in the same area as the main mission, more than a few times....you'll forget this demo as quickly as it can be beaten!

Metal Gear fans will love this game and will find more to do than those alien to the Metal Gear series so this really is just fan service for Metal Gear fans, such as myself, and I wouldn't not recommend Ground Zeroes to people that are new to the series.

Metal gear Ground Zeroes is unique in that there are things I love and hate about the game.

The positive points of this game:

Lets start off by saying how great the graphics look because of the new fox engine. Even on older systems like the ps3 and the xbox 360 the world looks incredible. Lighting different different times of the day helps to show off how brilliant the fox engine really is.

Controls have improved to feel much more natural. The game focuses on real time gameplay by taking away the camo index and the weapon and equipment windows and replacing them with one wheel for weapons and equipment. The new weapon wheel makes switching to different guns and your night visions goggles easy and quick. The system is simlar to using the d pad in games like Resident Evil 5 and Dead Space. The learning curve for this game is fast and finally the controls feel natural.

The Mechanics add to the depth of the game by introducing bullet drop when your weapon starts to get out of its effective range. Red cross hairs indicate where the bullet will hit while white cross hairs have to be adjusted because the player will have to aim a little higher at further distances to score a head shot on an enemy. The ability to tag soldiers to see their position on Snake's map helps to understand what corners and objects soldiers are behind. Destructible building and barriers help to add to the believably of this real world environment. Finally vehicles such as jeeps, trucks, and even tanks can be driven and can be used as the player sees fit.

The different missions all have different objectives to help the player really understand the different options the player has at his or her disposal as well as content to continue playing after the main story has been completed.

The AI has been vastly improved with enemy combatants being able to see you from far away. Running around is a good way to get spotted. Crouching and crawling is highly advised to avoid detection. Enemies are smarter and work together by radioing for backup and for additional soldiers to help investigate suspicious persons or when the power is turned off or security cameras are destroyed. Being an one giant open area the entire base will work together to attack you if discovered. Reflex mode has been added to give the player a slow motion second to neutralize the guards or shot a camera out if spotted to avoided a base wide alert.

Calling a transport helicopter into to different areas of the map make the player decide which area has the highest and lowest risk of the helicopter to be shot down by the enemy. The player can literally spend hours rescuing prisoners and knocking out Marines and having them extracted by the support chopper.

    The bad points:
The game is short no matter how much time you take to complete a mission. Most people can beat the story in an hour and half. My first play through having no idea what to do, I watched all the cut scenes, rescued all seven prisoners, and still used stealth to sneak around the base and my clear time was 44 minutes. That is the longest mission because most of the other missions and be beaten in 10 to 20 minutes depending on player skill and difficulty level.

The re playable content is really repetitive with the only thing that changes is the primary mission objective. There are six missions including the main story mission but they all involve the same map, so after the third of fourth mission you will already have the guards and the lay out of the base memorized.

The guards are always the same with no variety. One type of enemy with no boss fights in the entire game. The only thing the player has to worry about is if an enemy is in a tank, other than that you approach and fight every opponent exactly the same.

Metal Gear Solid fans will be sad to learn that many of the features in the old games have been left out of this game. The game has no cardboard box, no health or stamina bar, no rations, no codec calls, and very short cut scenes. Instead the game introduces regenerative health similar to Call of Duty with the screen turning red with blood spots until the player hides behind cover and waits for Snake's health to regenerate. Interactive codec calls have been replaced with Kaz Miller just talking about obvious hints for the player can undoubtedly figure out on their own with common sense. The gameplay feels more like a Splinter Cell game than a Metal Gear Solid game.

    My final verdict:
I give Ground Zeroes a 6 out of 10 because the game is fun in the short time that it lasts but the small amount of content makes me wonder how Konami justifies the 30 dollar price tag for next generation systems. The shift to new play style is both fun and disappointing for long term Metal Gear Solid fans. I would recommend for everyone to rent this game or if they have to own it buy it on last gen systems for 20 dollars because this game isn't worth 30 dollars.

The plot content is nothing that couldn't have been put in a few words during the intro of the main game that is about to come. The graphics did not impress me and I hope that MGS V looks better. Photorealism is there though and is very good but character models still look like plastic. The movement is still a bit awkward and NPCs as well Snake move quite quickly without any physical realism.
All the above and the very short duration of this game make me think of the same thing when I was reading the reviews for Ground Zeroes. I believe that Kojima is trying to help Konami stand on its feet before the release of the main game that will surely boost the company financially and to do so, we have this game on the shelves.
I would also like to point out that people should stop criticising each other on how they spend their money on games. Journey was a short game full of brilliance, same with Gone Home and both of them cost a total of 20 pounds. Kojima has already made a name because of his amazing games thus the extra price. I am a fan of Kojima's work and I would even buy a 5 minute demo of his for 10 pounds. If that makes me stupid so be it.
I totally understand the argument that we shouldn't promote a ''high price-low value'' culture in video games but I also strongly believe that this is up to us the gamers to decide. In the end we are the ones who form the market and decide where the market goes, what makes the highest sales and what games we really want. And I believe MGS is a game we still want in the market. If my purchase of Ground Zeroes can help that happen then I'm happy. As a game though, I expected much more.

As someone who played since the beginning of Metal Gear back on NES, I've watched as the game has changed from action to tactical action to tactical espionage and, modernly, a "cinematic" experience. MGS1 and MGS2 undeniably had some lengthy codex sequences but they usually came in between lengthy periods of gameplay. Beginning with MGS3 and increasing throughout MGS4 and now MGS5: Ground Zeroes, the player spends most of their time listening to dialog or sitting in cutscenes with actual gameplay limited to sneak-and-shoot just long enough to trigger more dialog or more cutscenes. Even the story telling falls by the wayside, lost amid the spectacle of "did you see that cutscene!" hype.

At this point, I wish Kojima would just retire the series and turn it into the movie franchise he clearly has wanted it to be since MGS3.

Ground Zeroes does everything it was set out to do: Give a taste of the new FOX engine and open world gameplay. Ground Zeroes does these things very well. The animations and graphics are a huge upgrade over MGS:4. The only thing I would say was strange was the exclusion of the cardboard box, but, I cannot penalize the game because it doesn't have an item. Ground Zeroes definitely deserves a 10.

Ground Zeroes is a display of the grim reality of war and for those who see no justification for it shouldn't because violence should not be justified. Metal Gear always has a message to pass along about the world through its characters. Ground Zeroes is not the first short-length game with such a price tag. It was no secret before its release, so buy it or don't and move on. It's as simple as that, no need to make such a big fuss about it because it's nothing new. Overall, what matters the most is the content of the game, and Kojima has always delivered high quality content in his MGS games. It seems this new entry in the Metal Gear Saga will only resonate with MGS fans. If people focus only on the time frame and price then the content will be overlooked, but each to their own decision. As for me, the wait continues for The Phantom Pain. Expand

Yes, the plot is very non-existent and sometimes brainless. The only thing that really supports the game is again, the gameplay. Though the voice acting and graphics may look good, the gameplay is where it's at. But like I said, you won't enjoy the gameplay for long. I beat the main mission in about an hour and the extras didn't really catch my full attention for me to want to finish. Ground Zeros is not worth full price but if you can get it on sale for under $10 or you can borrow it from a friend, you may want to go for it just to experience the solid gameplay. But do not get it at full price, you will be disappointed. Yes, the game is very disappointing.

It's really a shame that such a credible developer/publisher tried to take advantage of the game's hype and fanbase (which gets smaller by the day) to make an easy cash-in...
And for those of you that are saying: "Blah blah blah, they warned people that the main mission was only about 2 hours long so if you don't like it don't buy it" , let me tell you something, have you heard of a game called "Dead Rising 2: Case Zero"? It was a prequel to Dead Rising 2, just like Ground Zeroes. The only differences were the price (it cost 5$ instead of 30$), the content (it was longer and more interesting) and the people behind it; I mean, you could maybe expect a rip-off from the Dead Rising franchise but from the Metal Gear franchise? No way, that was too ridiculously greedy.
SHAME ON YOU KONAMI... I just hope this doesn't sell well and other publishers start doing it, although for 30$ they don't need to sell that much to have a good profit.
First it was Rockstar's constant attempts at milking more money out of what already is the best selling franchise ever, and now this? What was a respectful and trusted company is now turning into EA.
They can pull off these "scams" and keep getting good revenues, but it's companies like Valve that don't need to worry about cashing-in easily and still have some of the best-selling franchises ever, due to the simple fact that they care about their consumers.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is a title that will ultimately be judged less on it's own merits and more on the value of money spent and hours played. This is unfair to the title as practically every other game gets a pass in this same department, (Resogun can be completed in 40 minutes, The Bouncer is around the same time, and both carry a 7.5+ user rating) while MGSV:GZ gets judged on this fact alone. I will provide an honest review, while I am a huge fan of the Metal Gear saga, it will not affect my decision here.

One major thing that Kojima did right was holding on to the unique Metal Gear art style even with the changing of generations, the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" hold true here and I hope they continue to understand this fact. Graphically the game is alarmingly beautiful on both the PS4 and XBO, neither next gen version of the game looks terrible and the best way to describe it is the XBO version looks amazing, while the PS4 version looks better than that being slightly sharper. While the graphics are in almost every way better than anything we have seen in this new generation, I was blown away at how great hair looks in this game. While the hair impressed me the rest of the game is quite gorgeous through and through with luscious lighting, spectacular shadows, and tantalizing textures.

The game plays extremely smooth, thanks in large part to running at 60 frames per second. This adds a certain level of detail to Big Boss's signature CQC that we haven't seen due to the limitations of the previous games. In many ways this game finally makes Big Boss feel like The Legendary Soldier/Mercenary the game has been proclaiming him to be all these years, giving him full mobility that put MGSV:GZ on par with gaming's best third person shooters. (While this has no bearing on my review score, I can't wait to see how well this works with the new Metal Gear Online)

Unless you have been leaving under a cardboard box (see what I did there) you have heard about the short campaign. I can confirm that the game can be completed in as little at 10-15 minutes and as long as 3-4 hours depending on your play style. The replay-ability of the game is quite vast, I can easily see myself putting 12+ hours in this game playing the scenario out differently each time to find the approach I like best. The two exclusive missions add some benefit, but it really isn't much. I do prefer the "Jamais Vu" mission as it feels like something more than just a reskin, but the "Déjà Vu" mission was a great throwback to the old MGS demo we got with OPM in 1998.

The amount of negative reviews is alarming and unwarranted in the case of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. People constantly use the excuse that you are paying for a demo! The likely hood is these are the same people who bought and never played ZoE ($49.99) for the MGS2 Demo, bought ZoE HD ($39.99) for the MGR:R demo, Buying Crackdown ($59.99) for Halo 3 beta, Buying God of War: Ascension ($59.99) for The Last of Us demo. The entitlement by people giving this game 0-5 is beyond all reason. This game is a 6 on graphics alone and then an extra point or so for the content it provides, Technically this game is a 7.5/10, due to the lack of 1/2 a point I am rating it an 8.

Finally, the replayability factor. Lots of games have this, along with online leaderboards, and a much longer campaign. All the fun and interesting features of Metal Gear stealth have all been stripped away. The stealth boils down to spamming tranquillizer darts into enemies. Sneaking has become a joke, it's all about trial and error now. The enemies have a ridiculous line of sight and unlike past Metal Gear games where you can always find places to hide or find ways to conceal yourself, in this game the most you can do to conceal yourself is hide behind walls.

Because actually attempting to stealth requires you to restart the game over and over, you'll have a great time constantly skipping the same cutscenes and running back and forth between the cliffs saving prisoners. Eventually you'll be able to beat the stealth, but only after you have memorised the location of every single enemy in every single area and where they move around.

If you don't care about the stealth though, don't get your hopes up. The enemy AI is stupid. Even MGS1 had better AI combat than this. You can literally hide in some small building and just kill the AI while occasionally waiting for your health to regenerate when you get hit. I was able to kill about 500 soldiers just camping in one spot.

Oh and the story itself is a total ripoff. you get about 30 mins worth of cutscenes including the credits. There is only one level, camp omega. every mission takes place in this one level. The main mission takes about as long as the tanker chapter in MGS2, The tanker had at least 40 mins of cutscenes though, and it had a boss. There is no boss fight in GZ though.

The controls seem to have taken a step back from MGS4 and the camera is absolutely awful. Often you'll have an awkward camera placement where you can't see a thing. The cqc has also become overly complicated, most of the actions are based around doing certain combinations while mashing the button or holding it. The old cqc was a lot simpler in my opinion.

The radio chatter in the game is extremely annoying. Miller gives you completely useless information such as "press X to crawl" or "tranquilizers put enemies to sleep". He never has anything interesting to say, no entertaining codec calls. In the cutscenes too, he doesn't sound very emotional. Keither and everyone else manages to deliver an excellent performance.

As short as it is, overall I'd say it has a good story and some of the best graphics I've seen for a console game. But the gameplay itself is too frustrating and tedious, especially the part where you have to carry the prisoners to the chopper. Successfully stealthing shouldn't boil down to trial and error. This game is a massive low point in the series and the quality has dropped significantly. I hope that things are drastically improved for the Phantom Pain.

This game is to trick fanboys into buying this game, don't fall for this scheme. You can defend this game all you want but if a franchise you aren't a fan of does the same thing, you'll be the first in line to complain about how it's a rip-off and the developers aren't being fair to the consumers (pure fanboyism right there). So yes, pretty much my main complaint is the game's short length but that's justifiable giving that the game cost half the full price (no developers should get away with that). If you really want to play this game, wait until it's in the bargain bin since you would still have to wait ages for the actual game anyway. I give this game a 7 because the gameplay is what you would expect from a MGS game. But save your money on other games (or things) or even for the future when the actual game (TPP) finally releases. You'll be glad you didn't have to save up that much. You won't miss out on anything if you watch the walkthrough on YT intstead. The exclusive content for TPP that you get with this game doesn't justify the game for it's short length, not worth it. There's also something to be said about Kiefer Sutherland playing Snake. While he wasn't bad, it just isn't the same as with David Hayter. MESSAGE TO FANBOYS: All of you idiots who defend this **** clearly are okay with less content and with every copy sold, some other companies might do the same thing and some will do worse. I thought you guys were used to cool stories, amazing content, and awesome boss fights all lengthy campaigns, so tell me why you are okay with an unexplainable story, little to no content, and absolutely no boss fights in a demo. This game was originally supposed to be $40.00 and it shows that Konami and Kojima don't give a **** about you and only care about your money. If you truly like this, than buy it and play it for 300 hours while being raped by Kojima in your ass and Konami in your mouth, you are their bread and butter. The rest of us don't like to get raped. I know that there will be more games like this and I will blame Konami, Kojima, and you for buying it. What those companies see is that if you have a lot of loyal fans, they can easily exploit them. I'll never convince you **** dumbasses so I'll rest my fingers.

FINAL VERDICT: Konami, ya done ****ed it up; Kojima, ya done ****ed it up. 0/10! **** this game, don't buy at which ever price(DON'T GIVE A **** IF IT'S FREE) and don't rent it, pretend this **** never released and wait for the Phantom Pain.

I'm even planing to buy Japan exclusive Metal Gear 1 and 2 for MSX which I actually played and enjoyed even though majority of MGS players don't give s**t about them because they are old.

I bought Ground Zeros and I can sincerely say that I wasn't so disappointed for a long time. This "game" is merely a demo which isn't worth it's price because of it's length. It's something that should be available from PSN for about quarter of it's price or bundled with other game like MGS2 Tanker chapter was bundled with Zone of the Enders. No wonder that so many people got so angry because this is nothing more than just another case when big company overconfident in popularity of their game is milking gamers dry. Also no wonder why so many game sites gave Ground Zeros so high score. It's not a secret that lower score than accepted for MGS game means less interviews, promotional materials and early development info on new games from Konami for them. I don't feel sorry for these who are paid to give high score here but I feel real sorry for fanboys who are doing this for free. And you know what's really funny? Ground Zeros will be included with Phantom Pain for a standard price of full game.

'Demo' has no qualification for 'Critic Score'.

I'll just wait for 'full retail game'.
and then, write review that 'full retail game' for critic score.
So I have no criticism for 'this demo'.

If you are reading this review then you are one of the unfortunate people that have been robbed by the developers of Ground Zeroes and all I can say is that I am sorry for you and I know how you feel.
The game itself is the shortest game in the history of all games, it takes you up to one hour to finish the game, and that is if you actually die over and over, which is unlikely to happen

The game itself is the shortest game in the history of all games, it takes you up to one hour to finish the game, and that is if you actually die over and over, which is unlikely to happen because the game is too easy. In essence we have paid for a demo, and yet there are plenty of hardcore fans that refuse to admit it, and because of them I am afraid that this wont be the last time we will pay for a demo unless we seriously boycott this game and start acting against these developers that think that they can make us pay for demos and beta versions of their games. Be warned that if this gets out of hand and we let Kojima get away with this all companies will ask for money even when viewing a trailer of their game.
The game itself is good, however the length makes it one of the worth games out there today, being only second to Rambo The Video Game.

30 BUCKS FOR A DEMO. In the past the MGS 2 demo was free with ZOE. MGS V is an example of a dirty practice. The main mission is only 1 hour length and the other missions are very stupid.

This game took me 25 minutes to complete. Their is screen-tearing and framerate drops on my PS4. Do not, whatever you do, support Konami and Sony in their attempts to make it acceptable to make people pay $30 for a demo. Granted, what there is of the game is pretty good.

A gaming-site or -magazine reviewing this and giving it a good score is a scandal. This game is one of the worst and shortest i played in my whole life.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is not what the fans of the series wanted. The MGS games had always focused on having a long campaign mode, well written story and amazing boss fights, not replaying the same small level over and over again.

The enemy AI in general is pretty piss poor. You can kill a guy from far away, another one will run up to that exact spot and start shooting at you, you can easily kill him (the enemies don't take cover usually), and then do that to the next guy, and the next, and the next, you can basically keep doing that until you run out of bullets.

Once you are out, you can just hang of a ledge somewhere for an infinite amount of time and the enemies will NEVER find you as long as you are not in their direct line of sight, and if they DO find you, don't worry, it's very hard to die in this game now because they replaced normal health with regenerative health, you can now go full Rambo on your opponents, and then just hide in a corner for 30 seconds when the screen turns read. You can also tag enemies and see them through walls for some reason.

All in all this is a demo, and a poor demo at that. It's short, it's small, and it costs $30, you'd be better off buying a game like Dishonored or any of the Splinter Cell games, basically anything you haven't played yet, I guarantee that you'll have a better experience with it than Ground Zeroes.

I'm going to talk about a great truth. Hideo Kojima has good quality games, but in this game he completely disappointed by game time. I use to get multiple demos from gaming magazine every month for many consoles that had more gameplay in each one of them than this $30 game, but what do you expect these days when the kiddies are buying $10 DLC packs of costumes? Kids will buy into anything without a single thought process firing in their brains these days.

Yes it is short, however I would rather pay £20 for this instead of buying a map pack for Battlefield for £15 that should come with the game, or a season pass for titanfall that costs £20 for a horde mode and some more maps, to me this is ripping people off as it should be on the disc.

MGS5 Phantom Pain isn't out for another year, so Im more then happy to pay £20 for this.

I have seen people speed run Zelda Ocarina of Time in 18 minutes, I don't care.

This game has alot in it and to just say it takes 10 minutes or 2 hours makes you sound ignorant and stupid. Just exploring the open area seeing what next-gen looks like and interacting make this game worth $30 on a PS4. We rib each other hard but sorry X1 owners don't get the same visuals as PS4 owners,X1 really looks like a 360 port.Quantum Break shows what X1 is capable of. This game is meant to be played on Hard difficulty. The amount of options available to the player to overcome challenges is a lot of fun. I'm a traditionalist and prefer to take a stealthy approach but the game allows you (on normal at least), to go guns blazing as well.

If this is a taste of what Phantom Pain has to offer, then i'm delighted at the direction that Kojima is taking MGS. You will notice influences from games like Splinter Cell, Assassins Creed, Batman: Arkham City, and of course past MGS games.

I'll admit, it's not the best value. But Metal Gear lovers and stealth lovers will more than find their money's worth. For what it's worth, beating the game the first time leaves you with an 8% Completion Rate...
