Players assume the role of Dante, who descends into Hell after returning home to find his beloved Beatrice murdered, with Lucifer seducing her soul into the underworld. Dante sets out on a rescue mission to save Beatrice, but he soon realizes he is also in Hell to face his own demons and ultimately to redeem himself. Players take Dante through nine unique circles of Hell as mapped out and described by Alighieri: limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery. Each circle showcases its own distinct look, with demons, monsters, damned and geography that are crafted straight from the poem's vivid descriptions. To take down the demons of Hell, Dante is outfitted with two primary weapons: the Scythe he takes from Death and the Holy Cross given to him by Beatrice, which has spiritual powers that will help Dante collect souls and spells from the creatures he defeats on his journey. The game also features a deep upgrade system so gamers can customize their abilities to their specific gameplay style, something they'll need as Dante comes face to face with Hell's fiercest beasts and bosses. If successful, Dante will be able to tame certain beasts, exacting their will and turning Hell’s punishments back on itself. [Electronic Arts] Expand

  1. It's about eight to ten hours of pure, fast-paced action no one should look down on, unless you're just not a fan of the genre. With such an appealing story and addictive gameplay, Dante's Inferno's only sin seems to be its shameless similarity to Sony's celebrated franchise.
  2. Playstation gamers will probably turn their noses up at this whilst Xbox followers finally get a chance to play a game like God of War.
  3. Dante's Inferno is a decent action game packed with 60 frames per second and a lot of fun. Some problems related to the gameplay, the story and balance of difficulty prevents it from being on par with the best action games around.
  4. While the level designs deserve plenty of praise for creatively exhibiting the Nine Circles of Hell, Dante’s Inferno really has nothing else to offer itself other than its obvious comparison to God of War.
  5. Dante's Inferno offers little new to a genre dominated by franchises like God of War, yet it's graphical depiction of Hell helps create an interesting, and entertaining experience. As a game that took an awful lot of liberties with the original story, more liberties should have been taken with the gameplay to set it apart from its competitors.
  6. Dante’s Inferno features some interesting aspects (like its combat), but early innovation loses out to repetition. The game’s biggest strength – Visceral’s recreation of hell – wanes during the second half. Some entertaining unlockable content adds to the replayability, but for most gamers, Inferno doesn’t have enough new ideas to warrant a return trip through hell.
  7. For once gamers can honestly believe the hype. Dante's Inferno lives down to expectations in spectacular fashion

yes it is similar to god of war, and yes it is using one of the greatest poems of all time as its story. THATS WHAT MAKES IT F-ING AWSOME. itsyes it is similar to god of war, and yes it is using one of the greatest poems of all time as its story. THATS WHAT MAKES IT F-ING AWSOME. its not like getting more god of war stlye games is bad, and this one stays close to the inferno's descriptions and story. that and how many people have READ THE POEM?
it a brilliant way to bring people into the story. that and I DIDNT KNOW THAT GOD OF WAR TRADEMARKED THE IDEA OF LIGHT AND HEAVY ATTACKS, OR THE IDEA OF A RECHARGEABLE MAGIC METER.

TheThis game is pretty much a god of war clone and anyone who likes that series and gameplay should definitely check out this game as well. The story is different but as interesting and the game is of equal quality that being bug free with good checkpoints and varied enemies and abilities. The game made me want to play it and finish it. My only complaint with the game was at times some of the platforming was unnecessary and boring just for the sake of containing some platforming and as well the end of the game seemed to lose focus and become disjointed. Quick time events were memorisable and could have been more action oriented by being random. Still this was a fantastic game to at least play once and it sits on my shelf for at least a while as a potential keeper. This was a pleasant surprize as I didn't think the game would be that great before playing it.. I may keep it but may let it go but just being in that category suggests its a fantastic game. Expect 8-12 hours and replayability. Expand

The big enemies are extremely well done, however the smaller ones tend to lack in detail sometimes (even in HD). It's a God of War clone set in another time and another world. As a matter of fact I acctually feel Kratos as he, as the war of god he became, is looking down on Dante and the crusades. Angry as always waiting for the time to unleash from his throne. My biggest fear so far is that the game is too short (which sadly is too common these days). Certain circles move by too quickly. More than once I've played through a section and was left with a feeling of just getting started. A lot of people say they don't like hammering buttons. Those people should stay away from this pure hack n slash game. Insane hammering is crucial when hordes of the damned rage towards you. As mentioned the environments are great but sometimes I'd like more of these grandiose parts. All in all a really enjoyable game. Not what I had hoped for but still worth the bucks. It's violent, there are bare breasts, subtle genitalias and pretty much anything touchy moral panic parents frpn a good christian home wont like. Expand

The action is just a god of war rip off with hints towards the fight for good and evil while Dante is looking for his wife's soul in hell. Just a terrible story line because it is uninteresting and at times just bland. The ending is funny to say the least about big black things. I was excited for this game and bought it brand new and it traded back in 2 days later in disappointment. For people who only could play this hack and slash game instead of God of War: I feel bad for you and say maybe it is time to switch over to ps3 with not paying for internet access it pays for itself. I could not imagine paying monthly to play online 10 times a month what a ploy to bleed money out the gamer. Expand
