Team Ninja delivers yet another game inspired by the “soulslike” genre. While some of the narrative mechanics and world design feel obsolete, the characters and especially the action are stars of the show. Fights carry the weight of most of the game’s appeal, and if you can see through many of the design downsides, you will probably have an unforgettable action experience.- PLAY! Zine

Princess Peach: Showtime! is a fun-packed title for the youngest of gamers and for those that want to join the ride. As someone who has never played Persona 3, I tried to make myself a believer but never managed to do so. The Persona system is great fun, the theme is not for my taste, and the school segments are beyond boring, at least for me, and I am probably in the minority. Apart from the price, this game will scratch that Persona itch and let you relive your childhood with gorgeous graphics and quality-of-life improvements, but it did not make me fall in love with the series.- PLAY! Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition is a fantastic PC port. The optimization is great, and it works well on a variety of PC configurations. With multiple graphical enhancements and AI upscaling, this game plays best on PC. DualSense is also fully integrated and will use all the features the PS5 has to offer, just a bit better. When it comes to games, you’ll rarely find yourself saying: ‘’Let your expectations run wild, for they will surely be met with excellence’’. Rebirth feels more like a spectacular conclusion than a midway point of a trilogy. Bursting with content, rare are the moments where you won’t feel the utmost joy. It is easily one of the best Final Fantasy games ever conceived and one of the greatest titles this genre has to offer. A true masterpiece that makes us excited for what the series will have to offer next.- PLAY! Zine

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a controversial game, and it is truly not for everyone. On the other hand, it is so revolutionary compared to its predecessor, especially in this day and age, that it would be an easy GOTY contender if CAPCOM just showed a bit more leniency and knowledge of its audience. Unnecessary microtransactions and despicable optimization followed by few weird design choices hinders this release, that below all of the fuzz and stupidity hides a masterfully crafted world, with a fine narrative and remarkable combat that is unique and interesting with every step of its long journey.- PLAY! Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League desperately tries to lure you in with its funny “quirkiness” and looter shooter gameplay, but fails miserably by completely ruining the narrative of almost all DC characters, making them obsolete, weak and poorly written. Helldivers 2 is an amazing co-op shooter that deserves all the hype it’s getting. The shift from top-down to third person was an amazing choice which shifted the gameplay but kept the original feel of killing bugs and spreading liberty and democracy. Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden boasts an amazing story with incredible voice acting. The setting, the narrative and the overall feel of the game is terrific and on par with high-budget games. Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader was, besides Baldur’s Gate 3, my most anticipated game of 2023. Owlcat did an amazing job on Wrath of the Righteous and I expected that they would nail the Rogue Trader fantasy. Unfortunately, a lot of changes, bugs and a severe lack of voice acting completely ejects me from the immersion that is necessary for any 40k game. The deep progression system, while very confusing and not beginner-friendly, makes for a unique playthrough each time, but the very slow and boring combat hinders the pacing of a somewhat great CRPG.- PLAY! The Last of Us Part II Remastered is not a remaster at all. At best it has some new features that should have been free. No Return roguelike game mode is lackluster and there is no point in playing it. TLOU combat was complementing the story, and it did so very well – unlike No Return which is basically hide and seek with extra steps. For a layman, the graphic improvements are unnoticeable, especially if you haven’t played it in a while, and there are a bunch of new bugs that were previously absent (falling through the ground, missing limbs on character models, etc). The lost chapters are neat to get some dev insight, but are almost unplayable, as they are mostly alpha. This should have been a free DLC for the fans and not a quick money grab. Naughty Dog, take a note from Santa Monica Studios.- PLAY! Zine

Star Ocean: The Second Story R is a true delight for the fans of the series, skillfully recreating one of the best titles the franchise had to offer. Influenced by the legendary Dino Crisis franchise, Exoprimal is a surprisingly fun and engaging game. Despite some repetitive missions and an occasionally unstable connection, I can safely say that Exoprimal is one of the most enjoyable titles in 2023.- PLAY! Zine

Even though the magic of the old Disney platformers is somewhat lost, Illusion Island stands as a promise that it can be rekindled. Both experienced and less skilled players can enjoy this game cooperatively, and while it may not bring anything groundbreaking to the table, it’s great to see that the charm is still there. Seems that quality adventures starring Mickey Mouse won’t be just a thing of time past.- PLAY! Zine

Monstrum Nox builds greatly on the systems of its predecessor, making for a really fun title and a great promise to the tenth instalment. The PlayStation 5 version does not offer enough reasons for you to get it if you have already played the original. Still, its slightly refreshed visuals are surely welcome, especially since the only thing Ys games generally lack is better graphics.- PLAY! Zine

Street Fighter 6 is one of the best fighting games of all time, period. It flourishes with its creative visual design, a pretty good graphics upgrade and a selection of multiplayer and single-player game modes that will see you explore the game with your custom avatar, all while its drive meter and innovative changes to combat redefining the whole experience creatively.- PLAY! Miasma Chronicles is a step in the right direction, built on the foundations of the studio's previous game. You may call it a spiritual successor, but what it is, is an immersive, simple, yet enjoyable tactical RPG with an intriguing story and some nice graphics. If you are into strategizing and post-apocalyptic worlds, there's plenty to look forward to here.- PLAY! Zine

F1 23 is the best F1 game, with amazing new physics, better driving and tires, and a great story campaign. The new F1 World mode is a truly addictive and fun multiplayer experience. Even with the career remaining the same, its gameplay resembles something close to the actual F1 experience. I hope microtransactions don’t get added in the future.- PLAY! Zine

Diablo IV does not alter or revolutionize the two-decades-old formula but polishes it instead. While Blizzard admittedly ‘’played it safe’’, we can't deny it's a fantastic product that's easy to recommend. In its current state, it's one of the greatest entries in the series and by far the one with the best story. If microtransactions aren’t introduced later, Diablo IV will remain an amazing title to play for years to come.- PLAY! Zine

Amnesia: The Bunker is a successful experiment for the renowned horror franchise, branching the series into survival horror, room escape, rogue-lite and extraction genres. Impeccable audio design and tense gameplay make for one of the scariest horror games in recent years.- PLAY! Zine

Amnesia: The Bunker is a return to the roots of the original series instalment. Even though it sidestepped a bit from the overall mythos, the story was never as important as the sense of constant dread the game provides. As I’m not a horror fan, I had an awful time with this game, which is maybe the best compliment I can give it. Horror fans, rejoice!- PLAY! Zine

If Final Fantasy XV was meant to take the stray path, the 16th instalment made that path reach a worthy goal. Switching the old formula from a turn-based RPG to an all-out action-packed game may sadden some long-time fans. But the simple yet emotion-filled plot makes up for it, despite the sometimes awkward adult themes. Final Fantasy XVI somehow manages to stand on its own as one of the flashiest games ever and be a truly EIKONIK experience in every other aspect. Though wishing for the next one to rely a bit more on some of the traditional strengths of the series surely is a justified desire.- PLAY! Zine

Warhammer 40K Boltgun is a fantastic boomer shooter that combines modern visuals and gameplay with a retro look and feel. The story is lacking, but at the end of the day, nothing matters when you’re ripping and tearing in the Emperor’s name. Boltgun, for all intents and purposes, serves as a bridge between Space Marine and its imminent sequel but can easily hold its own as a fantastic video game.- PLAY! Zine

As if Gollum hasn't had his fair share of suffering, Daedalic Entertainment has decided that we have to share some more with him. Unfortunately, a potentially intriguing angle of storytelling and an ever-interesting world this time falls short in every sense imaginable - crashes that occur more often than you can count, unpolished gameplay, inconsistent voice acting and storytelling... Sadly, there are a few things more precious than your time - the time you could spend elsewhere, not playing a game that has lost its direction and, unfortunately, turned out plain bad.- PLAY! Zine

The Last Case of Benedict Fox is a macabre metroidvania that is inconsistent at all levels. The gameplay is rough and imprecise, while the voice acting is, depending on the character, a mix of both horrible and amazing. Overall, the game fails to establish a definitive tone or direction. I expected so much more, and I genuinely hope that at least the gameplay aspect of the game will be fixed and improved in the future.- PLAY! Zine

Redfall is a major disappointment from a well-established studio that brought us the hit Dishonored. While I expected an immersive sim that would build on the phenomenal foundations of their previous games, I got a cookie-cutter looter shooter with an empty world, a non-existent story and very little fun. With the steep price attached to this title, I would not recommend it even with a fat discount.- PLAY! Zine

Despite a few serious flaws that would be a huge drawback in most other scenarios, Tears of the Kingdom manages to throw so much at you that you can't help but grab the one thing you love the most. Whether you are into experimenting or defying ancient evil with little to no odds, this is a game that overshadows its predecessor so much that we'll hardly ever look back.
