Athletic and agile, sneaky and cunning. Driven by the desire to once again hold in his hands what he lost, Gollum is one of the most fascinating characters in the world of The Lord of the Rings.

He has seen things that others can not imagine, he has survived things that others would not dare mention. Torn by his split personality, he can be vicious and villainous as Gollum, but social and cautious as Sméagol.
While being vital to the story by J.R.R. Tolkien, many parts of Gollum's quest have not been told in detail yet. In The Lord of the Rings: Gollum you get to experience this story. From his time as a slave below the Dark Tower to his stay with the Elves of Mirkwood.

Use stealth, agility and cunning to survive and overcome what lies ahead. Climb, leap and grapple your way past dangers or into advantageous spots.

While Gollum might not be a fighter, it is not unlike him to assassinate a careless enemy when the chance presents itself or dispose of them in more creative and villainous ways.

The decisions you make and the way you play have a direct influence on Gollum's personality: Always struggling between the two sides embodied by Gollum and Sméagol, it is up to you to decide whether the darker side of Gollum takes over or if there is a spark of reason left in what once was Sméagol. One mind, two egos - you decide!

Just like Gollum, I'm a bit split. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum features a great story that adds to the lore, along with a terrific stealth system, but it misses the mark in other areas. A finicky and redundant platforming system, mixed with a dialogue system that lacks bite makes for a combination that drags the rest down. Gollum is always so close to The Ring, but ever so far.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was a bad idea on paper and is an even worse as a game now that we can play it, with a dull and boring plot and a gameplay formula that feels too old to be real in 2023.

The Lord of The Rings: Gollum is one of the worst releases in a long time. The game seeks to be a AAA title, but has an unclear direction that makes it an anachronic, riddled with errors and with a mediocre experience for both fans and non-fans of one of the most important IPs of recent times in nerd culture.

Ugly graphics, amateurish animations, awful controls, a confused level design and many, many bugs and errors, including some that are completely unacceptable. Gollum’s stealthy journey towards freedom cannot be redeemed, not even by a solid story that cleverly enriches Tolkien’s universe.

    Gollum is a complete failure.

The very few redeeming values present in Lord Of The Rings: Gollum buckle under the enormous weight of mediocrity that it carries. It tries, but the game is about as forgettable as one of the thousands of orcs slaughtered in the films.

What makes Gollum stand out is that most other developers and publishers then use their creative teams to try and hide the crass cynicism and capitalism. Daedalic didn’t bother with Gollum. This game represents the games industry with its mask off.

Sure, there are some bugs here and there but they will be patched quickly enough, Daedalic isn't the first studio to fall victim of a greedy publisher setting an unreasonable deadline and it won't be the last. However this is a genuinely fantastic game that will delight TRUE fans of the LoTR franchise and leave the haters, losers and fair-weather "fans" by the wayside as they cry and whine about things like "Gollum is ugly" (oh really? was Timothée Chalamet not available for the role?) and "the graphics are bad" (tell me, how were the "graphics" in the original JRR Tolkien novels again?) despite not having even played the game. Give it a chance and you too, like myself, might find yourself cradling the PS5 disc as you roll around half-naked around the house in delight eating raw fish and saying "my preciousss" in much the same manner as Gollum™ himself (from the movie) Expand

1/10. This game is so boring it could make the most neglected iPad kid wonder what it's like outside.

The graphics are a joke. It literally looks like a PS3 game. When I pay $60, I expect top-notch AAA quality. That is exactly what this game lacks. There are too many bugs and glitches. Gollum makes too many cringeworthy faces. You can only sprint for a short amount of time and you have to wait forever for the stamina to refill, it's tedious. Speaking of tedious, this game doesn't make it clear what enemies I can choke out, nor what ledge I can grab. The gameplay is boring and repetitive. The story is terrible. The animations are laughable. Too many clipping issues.

There is no multiplayer. So once you beat the game, there is literally not a reason to play this game again. Charging $60 for a game with no replay value is a cash grab. And the greedy developers had the audacity to apologize for this joke of a game. They even go as far to claim their apology is sincere. Are you freaking kidding me? Look at how awful those physics are. It doesn't even have any actual physics, meaning these developers didn't even try. It's one thing to be an absolute failure at your job, but how dare you lazy and greedy developers apologize when you didn't even try. Listen up developers, If you're sincere about your apology, then put your money where your mouth is. You better start contacting those retailers about refunds, because I demand a full refund. I don't recommend this game at all.

I don't care how many bugs they patch, even if they manage to make this game bug-free, it will still be an awful cash-grab that wouldn't be worse $5.
