Metro Awakening delivers a strong immersive experience for fans of Dmitry Glukhovsky's saga, offering the chance to explore Russian tunnels in VR. While its ambition is commendable, the game suffers from slow pacing that affects its rhythm and replayability. Although it might have been groundbreaking years ago, in 2024 it highlights a lack of innovation in high-budget VR titles. The developers show potential, and there’s hope for a refined future installment. Fans would still likely embark on another Metro VR adventure despite its flaws.

The System Shock remake makes sense in an industry where remaking past games seems to be the only way to avoid the complete loss of a certain way of conceiving video games. In many ways, we can consider it a successful operation, aside from some issues with the combat system and its relevance being tied mainly to the celebration of the original title. It is well-executed, a nice haven for nostalgic players, but it doesn't add much to the overall discourse.

The Landsraad system also introduces a real political undercurrent to the Dune: Awakening experience. Each week, guilds allied with House Atreides or House Harkonnen compete and fight to complete a series of objectives: whoever wins this race takes control of the institution for a week and can undertake an important server-wide decision: it can be decreed that new weapons merchants offer their best wares to the winning House, or hardcore mode can be introduced to PvP. If this mode is activated, anyone who dies in the High Desert loses everything they have on them and other users can take it, a bit like an extraction shooter. It is a rare event, but pay attention to your server's decisions and keep an eye on them to avoid unpleasant surprises.

LEGO Voyagers is a tender and well-crafted adventure that tells a story about friendship and the value of the time we choose to spend with someone else. It does so through a narrative conveyed by images, whistles, and small gestures of love and camaraderie, without ever putting a single word on the screen. The feeling it seeks to evoke, rooted in the Danish concept of hygge, is one of warmth and wholeness, the kind of completeness that only this type of bond can bring. Unfortunately, the control system lacks precision and reaches its most frustrating point precisely in two of the most important aspects of the LEGO universe: building and creativity. Players’ inventiveness is never truly celebrated; in fact, over the five hours it takes to complete the adventure, stacking bricks often feels more like an obstacle than an opportunity.

Many of these power-ups create synergies with the roll of the die. For example, you get bonuses if the roll is even, or if it is a very specific number. Spells are also inserted into systems that involve normal attacks or die rolls. At the end of an attempt you will be able to inflict elemental status effects on opponents, unleash secondary effects and, after a good roll of the die, be able to attack by making only critical hits that in the meantime heal you. This fusion of all the power-ups, this network of synergies that is created, is the most fun aspect of The Eternal Die and makes each game different. It should be noted, however, that while spells play a fundamental role, sometimes the roll of Fortune seemed like a very optional mechanic. In our best games we almost completely ignored the blue power-ups - those of the die - despite having the upper hand on all the enemies.

People of Note sets out to accomplish something almost impossible: merging the expansive pacing of role-playing games with the brisk rhythm of musicals. At its best, it nearly succeeds, but its compartmentalized structure soon becomes apparent. The musical identity of its characters and their performances truly shine only in the cutscenes, staged like music videos that punctuate the narrative. However, when the game returns to being a game, the centrality of music starts to feel more like a narrative pretext, an excuse to build a kind of theme park that lacks the very energy and sonic richness it promises. It’s a shame, because People of Note ultimately fails at what it sets out to celebrate: the joy of seeing two genres blend almost seamlessly. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is a video game whose success depends almost entirely on the amount of imagination you are willing to invest in it. It is a life simulator that draws from the rules of absurd comedy and requires an active effort from the player as well, in order to populate its world with unique characters, each with strange habits, tastes, and ways of speaking. These personalities interact with one another, giving rise to an emergent narrative that can be exceptionally hilarious. There are no missions to complete, no objectives to achieve, and progression is represented solely by the structures that will unlock on your island and by the increasingly unusual traits you can assign to your Miis. If you put a lot into it, the game will reward you with its powerful and unexpected sense of humor. Even if we lost online play, keyboards and pro mode, Rock Band 4 is still fun. The solos are wonderful the number of tracks you can buy is impressive but you can still see that the project have missed some funds during the developing process.
