Tie-in games can be a shot in the dark, but it’s only blue skies here. The mix of approachable-yet- deep mechanics and a strong co-op story make this a fight worth having. [Issue#173, p.81]

As the west’s first peek into the Granblue universe’s gaming side, Granblue Fantasy Versus is a fighter that can stand alongside its peers in terms of depth, but in addition offers a simplistic control scheme that even those less familiar to the genre can get to grips with quickly and easily. RPG mode is a unique way to to learn the basics of fighting, even if this and other modes could have been a bit more fleshed out.

Even with its issues, Granblue Fantasy Versus is still hands-down one of the most beautiful and accessible fighters I’ve played in years, and with its prominent place on the mainstage at EVO 2020 and other major fighting game tournaments, I can’t wait to see how Cygames and Arc System Works support it throughout the year.

For anyone wanting more out of these characters, there's almost nothing better. The voice acting and the dialogue are excellent at giving them life, while the RPG mode gives you a deeper look at these people and their personalities. Ultimately, my heart belongs to the battlefield. I'd rather be sharpening my skills and busting my thumbs than diving into back stories and prime motivations. The accessible move sets, the gorgeous character designs, and the distant skill ceiling mean that I'll be absorbed in this task for quite a while yet. If you're fishing for an anime fighter that will keep you at your seat's edge, look no further than Granblue Fantasy: Versus. ‎

Granblue Fantasy Versus is an interesting experiment, that can bring new users into the fighting game community… unless they’re interested in the single player side: the built-in RPG does not offer a real challenge.

It looks nice, but that's it. This is a bland fighting game that disappoints in both single player and multiplayer mode.

ButI love Granblue fantasy but I'm honestly not a fan of Fighting games. It feels slow as I tab the buttons way too fast so its frustrating. But anyways I played RPG mode and loved it. Ttird versus and arcade modes too. Everything looks normal; nothing special. I'm really disappointed to see more characters come as DLCs. That's just a sign of greed since each character is like $8. So as I said.. I'm a fan of the series but I honestly hate fighting games. I'm giving it a 7. It's good but not that great. Expand

The cooldowns and stuff feel like a nice concept but I really didn't enjoy it in the end because I didn't have a good enough sense of when things were on cooldown.

I do really like the character designs, and I thought the background on the stages were very nice and thematic but liking character designs doesn't go far enough when I don't like the playstyle of the characters. The feel somewhat sluggish at times or can't connect combos off a hit at all times unless they're within closer ranges which happens very often.

RPG mode was okay for what it was and the AI was incredibly useful, but there's no one playing online anymore. They would have had to had a better drop in drop out system I guess. It's also probable people don't want to re-watch all the story elements every time they rerun a map. The raid bosses were usually pretty fun to play. Except the last boss. That felt aligned with fighting game last boss BS.
