I still think it's a game that's worth checking out, simply because the combat is pretty great, making fantastic use of the level design, cover system, and slow down ability. Combine that with some legitimately challenging AI, and a lot of the big firefights will give you a great sense of accomplishment.

Needless to say, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is just as fun as the first three games in the series. It doesn’t break any new ground, but it doesn’t have to. If you want a game where you can take over a map by punching your enemies through buildings, you’ll get precisely that right here, and that couldn’t make me happier.

Donut County is short. It has little to no replay value. It feels like it squanders a great deal of its potential. And yet, Donut County is still one of the best games I’ve played this year. You may only get a few hours out of Donut County, but they’re a few great hours.

I ended up finding Battle Chasers: Nightwar to be a bit of a mixed bag. I love seeing the concept of Battle Chasers come back, and I think Nightwar does a pretty good job of continuing the Battle Chasers story. I absolutely love getting more of Joe Madureira’s character designs and artwork on display here, and I think the classic turn-based RPG approach makes a lot of sense. But there is definitely room for improvement here, and unless you’re petty enamoured with the classic style of RPG mechanics, you might burn out a little too soon with Battle Chasers: Nightwar. Ideally some things will be fixable by patches, but this wasn’t quite the home run I was hoping for.

I wouldn’t say I ever actively disliked any moment of my brief time with the game. The camera was occasionally annoying, but it never got too much in the way. There were a couple of jumps that were hard to judge based on the shifting perspective, but they were never impossible. Etherborn offers a pleasantly unmemorable hour or so, and if you don’t mind a game that’ll be out of your memory shortly after you’ve finished it, you could do a lot worse than experience it’s Escher-inspired trippiness.

It’s just a shame that the core gameplay here is so dull. Everything else in Bugsnax would make it a strong GOTY contender, but the sheer repetitiveness of the game’s main task drags it all down. As a game Bulletstorm: Full Clip edition still has everything that made the original great. Gameplay is still incredibly satisfying, gun-play is still nearly perfect and the arcade style madness is still, well, madness. I love all of that and I love this game, but I can’t honestly recommend it to anyone that has already played the original, which is a shame. I really enjoyed playing through it again and think that anyone who enjoyed it the first time will do the same. The other side of that coin however, is that if you have never played Bulletstorm, do yourself a favor and play this game. It really is unique and something that can just be enjoyed for what it is, mindless well made fun.

Its gameplay honors its source material and if you look closely at the rivals that challenge you on each track you’ll know Ansdor is definitely a fan of racing in the media as a whole (I see you Tofu Boy…but why isn’t your car white? Also how does Din Mikal feel about family?). The game might feel a little too punishing at times, but Ansdor leaves plenty of accessibility options to flatten the learning curve. I can see enemy density being adjusted, I can see some of the absurdly spongy health bars getting knocked down a good bit to help with the flow of combat, I can see some adjustments to checkpoint placements, etc. There is a LOT to love here with Lords of the Fallen, and I am genuinely optimistic about the legs this game has, and the potential it has to really go far.

It’s not uncommon to have fond memories of an older game that turned out to wildly inaccurate in terms of remembering how good that older game actually was, so playing a remake like this, that shows Epic Mickey was just as fun as I remember it (even if it has an obvious new coat of paint), brings some a welcome feeling. I think the brevity works to the game’s advantage. If it were a dozen or more hours of drawing the same designs over and over again, it’d start getting a little tiresome. Instead, you get a few hours to bask in one of the prettiest games of the generation, and it leaves before it wears out its welcome.

This is the Rock Band game that all the family can easily enjoy. If you’ve been struggling finding a music game that you won’t have to monitor the song list, Lego Rock Band will put your mind at ease.

And it’s a shame that the career mode is such a letdown here, because everything else about GRID Autosport feels fine. It’s still a series that attempts to straddle the line between sim and arcade racer, and does so better than most.

It's a marked improvement over the original Sims port, and "Urbz: Sims in the City," and you might find it to be right up your alley.

If you’ve ever heard about the series and wanted to see what all the fuss was about, it’s hard to imagine a better entry point, while series veterans should love that it’s got style and action to spare.

The only thing I didn't like was the chainsaw melee engine. On one mission, you're forced to use the chainsaw in a revenge situation and the control is just difficult to get used to. The range is very short as it should be, but you can't move quickly while sawing so if you accidentally start sawing too far away you really get messed up.

Like I said, that’s not enough to make Tokyo Xanadu eX+ worth checking out if you’ve already played it on the Vita. But it does mean that if you never played the Vita version, and you’re looking for a big game with smooth combat and a decent enough plot, then it should fit the bill.
