However, if you're hoping for the next big chapter in the series, and a resolution to Kiryu and Ichiban's problems with the yakuza in Japan, you won't find that here. Instead, you'll find an adventure that reminds us that dreaming is the greatest treasure in this treasure chest we call life.

Over the years, Obsidian Entertainment has been known for delivering some of the best experiences the medium has to offer, and with Avowed they have proven that they are still capable of doing just that. The big questions are: was Donkey Kong Country Returns HD necessary? Who would we recommend it to and who wouldn’t we? Well, considering that its previous versions simply don’t fit today’s standards anymore, I think it’s a good thing to have such an outstanding game on the comfort of a Switch, that doesn’t mean that we’re already talking about its third version. It’s a very easy recommendation for those who have never played it. If that’s your case, it should be among your priorities, yes, it’s that good. Things get complicated if you were able to play it on Wii, 3DS or both, since you’ll be receiving practically the same product. I never like to bring up the subject of price in these reviews, but I think it does play an important role here. Probably if it weren’t selling for the $60 it will be at launch, it would be a lot easier to tell you to go for it.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is one of the greatest disappointments of 2024. A technical mess combined with poor gameplay and a very hard to follow story.

It's definitely a fun game with its LEGO-like mechanics and level of humor, but with all the big releases coming up, I don't think it's going to stand out too much. I'd recommend checking it out, but maybe after there's a price reduction, since it'll be $60 USD on its first day of release.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is the definitive version of one of the pillars of this industry. With this title, Square Enix has made it clear that they are capable of honoring the extensive legacy they have, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Final Fantasy VI or Chrono Trigger get this treatment in the future. Make no mistake, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is one of the best remakes in history, and something that everyone should play.

BioWare knows its business well and for Dragon Age: The Veilguard it made the decision not to risk too much and go for a safe path. As I already told you, the main objective was to deliver a very good representative of the acclaimed saga, which is achieved thanks to a spectacular combat system, a complex cycle of personal relationships, a great story and spectacular graphics. It is a reason to celebrate that one of the most recognized studios in the industry and that has had the hardest time in the last decade, can return to its ways to show a much friendlier face of what RPGs made in the West are. A must-see that should undoubtedly appear on the lists of the best of this very intense 2024.

If you have a PlayStation VR2 sitting around collecting dust, now is the time to get it out. Metro Awakening is going to remind you why it's so special and, above all, different to play with one of these headsets and its futuristic controls. It's a bad joke to have to wait after doing something as simple as moving a unit. While it is true that Metal Slug Tactics is a good game, it is likely that many will not see it that way after witnessing its terrible performance, and will pass up one of the most fun games of the year.

For Persona 3: Reload fans, Episode Aigis is a pretty interesting piece of content that's worth paying for, but for those who couldn't quite connect with the base experience, this DLC won't be for them. This is an expansion that struggles to justify its existence, a task that seems impossible considering Persona 3: Reload's spectacular ending, but it's not a job without merit.

Pizza Tower is just brilliant. One the best indie games of the last couple of years, finally lands on Nintendo's console with great results. A must have.

Milestone won the hearts of millions of fans through the two Hot Wheels Unleashed installments, which focused more on fun than realism. Monster Jam Showdown falls somewhere in the middle. While it's not without its issues, it's still a must-play experience for fans, and I hope this installment marks the return of Mana.

What I want to tell you is that if, for example, you spend time reading comics, manga, or watching anime, some of those hours can be spent on the new Switch exclusive without any problem, because it feels like doing something other than playing. Of course, if you are in the mood to do so.

So if you're a fan of Star Wars and action games, you're likely to enjoy this one, whether you're just into the story or you'd rather do the side quests. Massive Entertainment has created a very good product that could perhaps be improved if they decide to make a sequel in the future.

The combat system doesn't present anything completely new, but everything it does offer is well done. Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure is another indie triumph. The way the game innovates and presents new ideas is a very special thing. It's only real problem is the way it handles difficulty and frustration.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess presents us with an interesting combination between tower defense and hack and slash, where the player has enough tools to face each challenge in the way they like best. The pacing is addictive, and there is constantly a feeling of progression that hooks you, and you can't let go of the control until you reach the end credits. Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is a classic in the making, a title that we will all be talking about in a couple of years as one of the hidden gems of this generation.

I feel that it is a very decent game and that it should be tried, but it is also not the work that is going to change the industry in the narrative game genre; For that, its development studio still has a way to go. The advantage is that it is not a full-price title, so if you want to venture out and buy it, I would say it is a good idea, especially if you like works that bet almost everything on the story.

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is a great collection of challenges from NES classics. The way everything is presented, results on a super fun videogame that everyone can enjoy.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate is a pretty decent and fun roguelite, but it lacks personality and it's visual presentation is far away from what we were expecting.

I would only recommend it to people who are fans of party video games, but at once they should keep in mind that it is not even going to reach the levels of fun that a Mario one can provide us. Honestly, I would think twice before buying it, especially because a much better product will arrive in October for Switch.

Zenless Zone Zero, like Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, is here to stay. It is very certain that miHoYo is already working on future updates with more content and new characters. With three different games, the Chinese studio has extended its reach to new territories, and perhaps those who are not fans of open world games or turn-based RPGs can find their new obsession in this hack and slash.

SNK could well have created a sequel to Metal Slug Attack that would be able to work in today's market and keep us entertained as Metal Slug Tactics arrives. Instead, Metal Slug Attack Reloaded is a waste of time that, while it can be entertaining at times, is something that quickly loses the player's attention. The story is non-existent, and the focus on original characters takes away from the protagonists we all know and love.

SPY×ANYA: Operation Memories is a game that could be worth it, but only for those who already have a knowledge of the series, since they take a lot of things for granted in terms of characters. They don't explain much who they really are, they assume that you already know the identities and backgrounds of each of them, so if you want it to be your first step in the franchise it is not the right way.

Who is Luigi's Mansion 2 HD for? At the outset I would tell you that if for this or that reason you skipped Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon on the 3DS, now is an unbeatable opportunity to enter its incredible world. Ignore any noise that may be around you. The game is excellent. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble is a decent installment of the franchise, the return that perhaps classic fans of the franchise were looking for, given that it doesn't take much risk in terms of mechanics. Certainly, this part is not negative, after all it is fun to play, especially if done in company.

The star here is the Shadow Realm. The way this map is built plays very well with its limitations, creating a layered world that takes exploration to a new level for the series. Traveling through this open world is extremely satisfying and gives us so many options that it can even be overwhelming for some people, but at the same time it gives rise to an experience that only Tears of the Kingdom had achieved in recent years. Shadow of the Erdtree is an expansion that no one should miss, and a solid candidate for the best of the year.

Just as it was in 2021, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is positioned as a must-see game, and something that JRPG fans have to play no matter what, even in a year where this genre has not stopped giving us some of its best modern exponents.

Megaton Musashi W: Wired represents the return of Level-5 publishing games in the west. A great mecha and action RPG game that every fan of the studio should try.

Paper Mario The Thousand-Year Door for Switch is practically the same classic that appeared 20 years ago on Gamecube, without alterations that feel great in terms of gameplay. However, that is not bad at all, in fact the phrase “if it ain't broke, don't fix it” applies very well here, as the magic that many of us experienced in our youth is preserved.

AAA video game development is in the middle of a serious crisis and I think Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is proof of this. Having been in development for almost seven years tells us that for every year, an hour of gameplay was built. It's crazy. Ninja Theory is delivering a very good product that does justice to the name it bears, but in more than one section, it does leave things to be desired, especially in what has to do with its scope and own ambitions. The use of Unreal 5 is spectacular, but I wonder if going for this technology that is just beginning, did not end up affecting the game, since it is also worth remembering that after being bought by Xbox in 2018, the British studio grew to more than 100 employees; That is to say, we are no longer talking about a small production, far from it.

The puzzles that Animal Well presents us are challenging enough, but at no point do they feel impossible. The level design guides us little by little, and the way in which each challenge is resolved is through experimentation. Talking about Animal Well can be a disservice to all those who wish to enter this world. My biggest recommendation is: play Animal Well. This is a magical experience that will stay in the minds of all who give it a chance, and I can't wait to see what's next for its developer.

Endless Ocean Luminous is a great return to the cult series of the Wii. Arika presents just the type of experience that that fans have been waiting for almost 15 years.

Final Fantasy XVI is a fantastic game from start to finish, which manages to combine the classic structure of the series with a combat system focused on action and customization. The Rising Tide is the perfect complement to this experience, and although this marks the end of this chapter in the history of one of my favorite video game series, I can't wait to see how Square Enix takes everything that worked here and expands these concepts in Final Fantasy XVII, or in a sequel to Clive and Joshua's adventure.

Definitely not the perfect job was done in terms of gameplay, but at least it is a good tribute to the original work and therefore, to the author, who unfortunately was not able to see the finished project. So, if you were looking for something different and with a concept that is not just about fighting, it is very possible that you will find this game fun with the good customization options on vehicles.

Stellar Blade has great merit when we see it from a production point of view and as Shift Up's letter of introduction to the international market. As an exclusive to the PlayStation 5, it lets us see that the industry is willing to expand and show us the AAA proposals that other regions have for us. Despite its positive points, the title offers us a generic story and gameplay mechanics that lack depth, although the presentation and production levels are impressive.

The King of Fighters XIII: Global Match is a good port of a game, with which you can train to emulate the exploits of BALA, Violent Kain, Huevo, Romance, Khanibalito, Tokido, XiaoHai or MadKOF. It is a title that still has its competitive niche and, therefore, in this installment that which those players demanded at a complicated time. Although, unfortunately, no more than that. It's up to you to decide if it needs it.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink is a fantastic action JRPG that goes directly into the action without wasting any time. Its amazing graphics and fun combat system, are some reasons to give it a try.

Features interesting challenges that test the player's skills with control. It all culminates in sections that, despite being short, manage to make a great impression. Unfortunately, it all ended too soon. Just when you think you're just getting started, the end credits roll, disappointing and infuriating the player. Although there is an element of replayability, it is not strong enough. I really hope that Ahr Ech is already working on Pepper Grinders 2, because it's unfair that such a good experience ends so quickly.

If you are a fan of the first video game, you definitely have to try it, because as I already said, it expands the experience in terms of mechanics and also with a much larger map. On the other hand, if you are new here, you better tread with caution, unless you are already used to similar games that are placed in the RPG genre.
