    My time with Super Mario Odyssey was fun, adventurous, and straight forward.
    The Pros

    Super Mario Odyssey is a very fun game with lots of different powerups using Mario's hat. With a vast world to explore and tons of moons to collect, this experience sure is fun. Although there aren't any actual perfect games, I do kind of wish that there were actually lives, but that's just about all the problems this game has, other than that, it is an amazing game.

Do you have it pictured now? Great. That is Super Mario Odyssey. The primary mechanic is wonderfully inventive and usually used to great effect. Unfortunately, the primary campaign is super easy.Imagine a perfect 3D Mario game...     this game is a masterpiece the only flaw i see in this game is that some moves require the motion controls otherwise this a masterpiece and my favorite 3d platformer

    Peach is so thick! Along with Paulina, I want to stick my New Donk City in her. But um yeah 10/10 best game. Only problem is that they need to be THICCER

    The best 3d Mario game ever! Fantastic graphics with the combination of exploration and open world, great music and lots of easter eggs/tributes to previous Mario games. Totallly engaging!!!

    Odyssey is an amazing game and id recommend this to you if you're getting a switch. This by far has the best gameplay of an mario game because cappy is an amazing edition that can allow mario to do more things. My 2nd problem of the game are some of kingdoms and im not saying that the kingdoms are bad or anything i had lots of fun roaming around them but some kingdoms were rushed and some kingdoms such as the dark and darker side had no reason to be in the game and just made the game more tiring. My final problem is after you took forever to get all the power moons they give peach's castle a giant hat, they could of done other things like for example extra kingdoms from past mario games like isle delfino or maybe add some galaxies from super mario galaxy 1 or 2 because odyssey was targeted towards hardcore mario fans but the problems aside this is by far one of the best mario games i ever played and id recommend this to you if you love the series… Expand

    This game is entertaining, fun and very beautiful, however it does not live up to the hype, the story is bad and very small, the game area (the worlds) are small and could get a little expansion, since they feel crowded, and the game is in general very easy. It's a game oriented mostly for children, nevertheless it is a good game and it is worth picking it up.

It was never boring and even the water kingdoms that were always my least favorite ones in all Mario games were very enjoyable. This game is wonderful and flawless. It has wonderful gameplay and graphics, music is AMAZING!!! So yeah people, this can be theOne of my most favorite games of all time. This game is the definition of the word FUN.     This game is a true odyssey. There are 17 kingdoms in the game, and none of these come close to being clones. From a prehistoric kingdom to a living and breathing city to a black and white hat kingdom to THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM! The sheer amount of creativity is extraordinary, and the interactivity of these worlds (from side quests to level design) far surpasses and Mario game before this.

    The story is simple- Princess Peach has been kidnapped again and Mario fails to stop him in the beginning. He then teams up with Cappy, who's sister, Tiara, has also been taken. From there on out, you must go to each kingdom, help the people there and gain power moons in order to progress. While the story is simple, this isn't a problem: it isn't meant to be breathtaking, but rather is just there to motivate the player to play and finish the game.

    The gameplay is fabulous- no complaints. Mario platforms like a dream- every hat through and jump does exactly what you tell it to, when you tell it to, and it feels incredible. The other mechanic, besides jumping, is the capture ability. This is also flawless. The game designers completely understand how to make us feel like a Goomba, Hammer Bro, Sherm or even a T-REX! The control scheme is also great- if you have a problem with it, then I seriously don't know what it is.

    Now for music. Koji Kondo has worked his magic once again to give us the most diverse and (in my opinion) the best Mario music to date.

    Get this game. It's awesome. However, no game is perfect, so this gets a 9/10.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love this game. It has amazing level design, superb controls, and great graphics that fully realize what Mario is about. These topics are so huge they take separate paragraphs to talk about.

    Level Design:
    The kingdoms in Super Mario Odyssey are beautiful. They all stand out from each other, and everything about them is fully realized. Power moons are on a spectrum of difficulty and there are many sub-areas that are worlds of their own to look at. It has enough linearity to have a good base, while still letting you explore and find things. The fan service is also great too. You can get a Mario 64 outfit, and a Mario Sunshine outfit. You can unlock the Mario 64 courtyard, and the Mushroom Kingdom moons are star-shaped. As a bonus, the Moon Kingdom's purple coins are star bits from Super Mario Galaxy.

    Controls:
    In Super Mario Odyssey, you are introduced to Cappy, a hat that you use to capture different enemies and other NPCs. Cappy can also be used as a bounce in midair. The capture ability allows for superb boss fights. Fights like Knucklotec and Cookatiel are some of the most innovative in Mario history. The controls allow for great speedrunning potential, and I myself have started speedrunning, and it has been the most fun I've had in a game.

    Graphics:
    One look at Super Mario Odyssey and you can tell this is what Mario was meant to be. The game runs at a crisp 1080p60fps, and despite this supposedly being the 4k age, it still looks great. (I'm lazy, so I stopped here)

    Bads: This game isn't perfect. There are some moons, like Volleyball and Jump Rope, which are challenging, but not even fun. This is the only reason this isn't a perfect game.    … Expand

This game has tons of things to do, and it really brings back the feel of Mario 64 and Sunshine. Also, I can't play this game without the motion controls. They just add so much. Also, the Luigi's Balloon World update is amazing.

    To add on, 100% this game is incredibly hard. You have to achieve 880 unique power moons, then use Crazy Cap to get your total moon count to 999. Also, you have to collect 100 purple coins, unlock all souvenirs, unlock all outfits, and reach rank 50 in Balloon World.

    Also, Luigi's Balloon World, Mario Odyssey's advanced movement, DLC, and Odyssey's huge speed running community always gives you a reason to go back to this game.    … Expand

The return to the true open-world sandbox genre is very refreshing after semi-linear Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 and linear 3D Land and 3D World. The amount of Moons gives the player a nice challenge. One of the things I really love is the adaptation to any kind of gamer there is. Right out of the bat, the game offers you the Assist Mode, which really helps less-skilled players. After that, you can choose, which moons to get. Some of them are easy, while some of them are hard. The varied difficulty of moons is something I really appreciate, considering I'm not that skilled myself. To reach the ending, you only need to collect the relatively easy moons. That means even the least skilled players can experience the main ending, which isn't really the case in other Mario games (For example, I've never finished Sunshine, however much I tried.) . The Cappy mechanic is wonderful. It controls very smoothly, there are loads of moves you can learn throughout the game. Capturing mechanic brought many surprises and many different styles of play. Also, because of that, the game allows many different approaches to getting many of the moons. For example, if there is a moon up in the air, you could do some advanced moves with Cappy to get the moon, or you could capture an Uproot (the creature that can extend it's legs) and get it that way. Or you could even make a tower of Goombas. The game gives you many choices. Those reasons and many more may as well be the reason why this game deserves a 10/10.… Expand

Taking a character that's over 35 years old and still making good games is one thing, but to be on top as a #1 contender is another. If that isn't enough for u it comes with a whole nother game type called balloon world. If not for the over saturated10 out of 10. What more can you say. The games a masterpiece.     An amazing Mario title with stunning graphics, amazing music, cool locations, and a real sense of adventure. Mario's moveset feels more refined then ever and Cappy is a really cool mechanic. My only major complaint is that there isn't much replay value after beating the Darker Side. Overall, the best Mario game since 64.

At no point did I feel like I was checking boxes just to up my completion percentage.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game feels like a combination of Super Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, and both Mario Galaxy games in one massive entry. A fun title that will be the focus of several Mario related subjects until the release of New Super Mario Bros Deluxe.
    However, there are a few things that weigh this game down quite a bit for me.

    Firstly, while I do enjoy the costume gimmick, I don't see the appeal several of the costumes and needed to purchase specific costumes for certain moons.

    Secondly, the game play isn't entirely innovative. Sure the whole "Mario possess objects with Cappy" is cool and all, but after a while it gets old (not to mention a lack of enemies you can capture) and boring much like the gimmick of having a Luma fight with you in Mario Galaxy.

    Finally, after finishing the core game and collecting as many moons as I had the patience for, I didn't see any replay value. In fact the main games end, where the Mushroom Kingdom is unlocked, there isn't much else to do.    … Expand

    as a man who has over 100 hours this game is fantastic, revolutionizing the Mario series. The story is great and the kingdoms are full of creativity, but the best part is the post game content and the soundtrack

    Awesome game! The variety of the worlds, bosses and items to collect is great. The mechanics bring me back to Mario Sunshine, which is my favourite 3d Mario. An absolute must play! The only critique i have is that it's a bit short. I finished the storyline in one weekend.

When you are playing the game you are not force to collect the collectibles in a certain order; you can collect them in the order you want as long as you collect enough to proceed in the game.     Best mario game till date, the 3d is absolutely perfect and a gust of fresh air. Overall just absolutely amazing game. 10/10 would buy again.

    This game is really fun and one of the most fun mario games but it's just too short and at the time when I got it (2017) it was 60 dollars and definitely not worth it. Some times the moons are just boring to find and the charm and magic of finding one wears of after you beat the main story. Other than that it's really fun and you should play it, there are just better games out like BOTW.

    This is simply the best Mario game ever, and nothing else comes close to it. Not even my 2nd favorite, Paper Mario TTYD. The graphics are eye candy. The visuals are beautiful, and are designed perfectly.
    The gameplay is smooth, fun, and challenging. It fits perfect with the beautiful worlds in the game.

    Suprt Mario Odyssey is the greatest Mario game every made, period. This game radiates charm at every given monent and only seems to get better and better as the game progresses. The platforming feels great and Cappy somehow makes it even better. This is one of the best games ever made, and this is a must buy for every Switch owner.

    Super Mario Odyssey has to be one of the most ambitious Mario attempts yet, and it pays off. No Mario game has ever felt this smooth to play, with the movement being the best the series has ever seen. The level design and story is also really innovative and fun, and the soundtrack isn't half bad either. There isn't anything bad to say about this game, it's a modern classic.

    I really wanted to like this game more than I did. Not sure why I didn't, but I can say it is an incredibly well-crafted game that looks amazing, runs amazing, and plays perfectly as a 3D Mario game.

    Game is one of the best on the switch. Gameplay was really fun and I had a great time playing it. I do think it is slightly overrated however. Still a great game that i would recommend to any person who asks about it.

    Respecto a las mecánicas del juego, como siempre gran cantidad de saltos e interacción con el entorno. Como novedad, la inclusión de Cappy (el sombrero) para añadir una variedad única en la saga al set de movimientos.

    El apartado gráfico es sensacional, parece mentira que lo mueva una consola de estas características. Corre a una resolución de 900p 60 fps en modo dock y 720p 60 fps en modo portátil. Priorizando la tasa de frames, puesto que en un juego de plataformas es muy importante.

    Duración: la historia principal es cortita, entre 8 y 12 horas. Pero conseguir el 100% del juego es un reto que nos puede llevar entre 70 y 100 horas. Es bastante exigente.

    Banda sonora: sensacional como siempre.

    Dificultad: la historia es sencilla, pero conseguir el 100% del juego (todas las monedas y las 999 lunas) es todo un desafío.

    Una joya totalmente recomendable, exclusivo imprescindible.

    I really don't understand why people are rating this game so highly. I swear this game feels like it was made for toddlers. Heck, even my cat can play this game. No skill is required at all. If you want a trophy for every single thing you do in life then this game is for you!

    This game has amazing platforming jumping from trees, over poison, to snowy hills, or just jumping off a building in the Metro Kingdom and it all runs at a smooth stable 60 fps! this game is a must buy for any person that owns a Nintendo switch. however, I can admit the multiplayer isn't great this game is more of a single-player experience.

    I've played 3d land first and this game is very good!Finding power moons can be fun and challanging but its not too hard or too easy,the gimmick is very cool,graphics,music and controls are out of this world and the game is 60fps both handheld and docked.Anyone with a switch needs to play this master piece ASAP,its a very great game just like breath of the wild for example.

    i will start of saying the game is amazing. Odyssey is one of the best mario games. The game is smooth and fun. All the worlds feel alive and are so fun to play. Cappy abilities are an amazing idea that was executed perfectly. But sometime i thought the moons were too much, it wasnt as rewarding to find them.

    Quite possibly the best 3D Mario game to date. Everything that was an issue with the previous games; Mario 64's age, Sunshine's jankiness, and the Galaxy games' linearity were all fixed.

    My favorite Mario game of all time. The controls are smooth, responsive and precise, the worlds are filled with color, and are visually appealing. The hat capturing gimmick is also really fun. Never before have i been able to play as a goomba

    I am not gonna lie this game could compete for the best Mario game of all time. It was fun and Interactive, Using the Joy-cons was challenging but like most things you get the hang of it. Brings me back to the days when I would play Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. This Was the perfect way to start the switch!

    I bought this game because my wife wants to play a co-op game together with me. I thought I wouldn't like this game because I dislike most Mario games. I was totally wrong about this for this game. The game was so much fun even though I was just a hat when my wife played Mario. I really hope they will release the next game of the series soon!

    While it was difficult to imagine how Nintendo could top previous 3D Mario adventures, Super Mario Odyssey is nigh-on perfect in almost every way. With the help of Cappy, Mario has never been as fun to control, reaching new heights and, in the hands of a skilled player, accomplishing impossible skips. You need only pick up a controller to see why this is the best modern Mario game ever.

    The best entry to the best platforming series is so ridiculously huge it’s like a theme park made of theme parks. It’s a wonderful tribute to Super Mario 64, but it’s not a lazy homage.
