This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was hyped to the extreme and it delivers. Over 15 beautifully crafted kingdoms to explore, 836 moons and much more. From The Cascade Kingdom to Moon Kingdom, I mostly had fun the whole way through. Amazing graphics, clever mechanics and enough content to last days. My only complaint is that the game lacks difficulty to entertain past new mechanics and graphics. Other than that, a game I recommend to all fans of Mario. Expand

I remember back in the day when I was a young kid, just played Super Mario Bros and got a Nintendo 64 with Super Mario 64 as a christmas gift and how that blew my mind. Super Mario Odyssey wanted to give the same impression and the first impression was strong enough for me to buy Nintendo Switch.

Super Mario Odyssey's story is the same old Mario story: Bowser kidnaps Peach and Mario's the one who has to save her. Nothing new but Mario platformers are not games to play because of the story. It's good enough that you have some motivation to go through the game.

After WiiU's Mario titles the gameplay in Odyssey has gone to the right direction. You get different sized kingdoms to explore and they differ from each other enough. Some are a little bit bigger with lots of possibilities to explore, other are a little bit smaller and maybe more linear. I liked that kingdoms don't feel like they were copy-pasted from each other. My main issue is that the kingdoms itselves are not connected by one big hub world. The Odyssey ship was kind a cool idea for faster traveling but I feel that SM64/Sunshine styled overworld would've made the exploration better.

I don't own a pro controller so I played my game using JoyCons. Controlls felt like they were polished but they were too sensitive for my taste. It didn't give me so much trouble in the regular run but in harder post-game missions I got frustrated. For example if there were a narrow path, Mario liked to run in wave motions. I don't know if the problem is with the JoyCons or in lack of my skills but it never felt that i could replicate same actions ever again.

Music - i just loved it. Especially the festival song. Music are composed well and they fit to the environment. I also liked the jukebox idea that you can pick any music in any part of the game and just roll with it. I stopped to use jukebox when I found out that dying resets the music. I wanted to lift my spirit in some harder parts but opening the jukebox each time you fell out of bounce made the option feel more like gimmick than addition to your experience.

The search for the power moons was fun but some power moons felt they were there just because. I don't say that there was too much power moons. It just felt that some missions could've left out or maybe it could've been better to make one more kingdom (or that hub world). Also I didn't like how post-game introduced new power moons. All the playthrough I was hoping that I get a new ability that opens older kingdoms in new way. Like in SM64 when you first time find the Red Cap Switch and remember that there was a red box in the Bob-Omb Battlefield. Revisiting older levels isn't a problem if you can feel how you've grown since you were first time there. And lack of that gave me thoughts "Why couldn't this power moon be here from the beginning".

Also another nitpicking subject: costumes. It was a nice addition to see Mario in different costumes but besides of few hidden power moons they felt pointless. I would give them a pass if possessed enemy would've had the same hat as you were wearing as Mario that time but possessed enemies always had a basic Mario cap. In my opinion there could've been less costumes and some kind of outfit bonus for excisting ones, like Cowboy Mario throws Cappy faster and Caveman Mario can break the rock boxes. Costumes were nice idea but considering how much coins post game costumes cost it just didn't fulfilled the purpose for me.

But after all nitpickings I've had, I still enjoyed and liked the game. Odyssey took the right steps from WiiU Mario games while keeping some of those elements. I truly enjoyed most of the kingdoms and, while I hated the swimming controls as Mario, my favourite was the Sea Kingdom because how the possessing right enemy can open the world differently. The game have lots of wide open areas to explore and almost always awards the player for exploring. My issues with the controls affect to my whole experience (I hated luring the Banzai Bill) but it won't change the fact that the game itself is great. Odyssey didn't give me the same end impression as SM64 back in the days but the game industry has evolved since then and now I'm older, so it's unfair to even make the comparison.

Super Mario Odyssey is a great game for the Nintendo Switch. If you own Nintendo Switch, you should buy the game. As a system seller game, I don't think it's as high as Breath of the Wild but still high enough to enjoy playful gameplay and witness the direction what Nintendo is currently taking.

In Odyssey you can control a cap that can be used to control enemies or a way to platform. Stars have been replaced with Moons and there are plenty to collect. Some being very simple to others being a bit more complex to get. The story is pretty basic Bowser takes Peach and you have to save her again like any Mario game. For this game the gameplay and exploration is what makes the game not the story. There are a variety of bosses that are unique. You will have to face the same bridals over and over as you progress through the story. The game is more enjoyable if you try to collect every shop coin and moon. That's were you will get the most out of this game. The last few levels will push your skills and be a bit harder than whats in most of the game. Music is pretty enjoyable and fits each world perfectly. I 100% recommend this game to anyone who has a switch. It can be a simple or complex platformer depending on what Moons you go for and has a joyful atmosphere surrounding it. Took me 85 hours to collect everything. There has been multiple updates since the games release for outfits and for an online mode call Balloon World. Balloon World is were the real challenges come into play. There are some easier challenges but you get to choose how hard they are. I'm sure there will be plenty more updated after this review is posted. Expand

But then, after playing the game, I realized that even this modern, more realistic art-style they were going for was just as much cartoon as we all would recognize and enjoy most of all.

From solving puzzles, to the great use of camera, to all kinds of creatures which whom you can solve even more puzzles and obstacles this game just brings a great experience with a lot of fun!

Now normally I would not give this game a 10, but since it re-imagines the genre ones again, I just can't give it any lower than this. With solid gameplay to back it up, and the most familiar story we all can dream by now, this is a solid 10, a game of the year nominee!

After seeing the credits rolling, thinking back of the level design, the music, how everything flows, the nostalgic feels throughout the game, and the fact there are A LOT of replay value (Have only collected 50% of the moons so far), I can safely say Super Mario Odyssey is the BEST 3D Mario ever created! Worth your time as you will get at least 30-40 hours story plus 20-40 hours after to try and collect everything. If you have been waiting on getting a Nintendo Switch, wait no more as this game alone is worth the investment. It was pretty comfortable playing on Handheld mode when on the road but defiantly is better playing on the big screen and with good speakers as all the music is orchestrated. Now if you excuses me, I need to go back and try to collect everything. Expand

I will not harp on the similarities to Sonic Adventure 1, such as the Mystic Ruins, Station Square, emblems hidden throughout the overworld in hard to reach places, because I consider that to be a good thing and a completion of what the Sonic Adventure overworld could be in modern times. Taking inspiration from an amazing game is never a bad thing, and I consider this returning the favor from Sonic Lost World. My main issue is that there are no consequences and no serious driving force to keep me playing. Death results in loosing 10 coins, which is meaningless given that coins respawn when you die. I understand and respect that this was done in order to reduce stress so players that value hunting for everything and trying to go for 100% completion can do so without worrying about restarting the level. However, that fear and the sense of accomplishment once you do something dangerous and survive is why I like that style of extra content in the first place. The reason the green stars in Mario Galaxy 2 worked so well for me is because often times if you missed, you could die. They were hard enough to find so I may have had to do a level a few times to find them. To me, that was a rewarding experience. I don’t get the same feeling from finding the power moons until post-game, and even then, there is little pressure. The final areas are insanely difficult, and I respect that challenge a lot, but again, lack of lives made me always understand in the back of my mind that I could die as many times as I needed without consequence, and the pity box is still in effect from previous Mario games, although I’ll admit I’m not sure what it does this time because I never used it. The game does an amazing job of what it is trying to accomplish, and I do enjoy the game a lot when I remember to play it.
The reason that games like Mario NES, Mario 3, World, 64 and sunshine are games that I can just sit down and replay for a while is that I do not win every time. If I try to play Mario 1-3 on their own without glitch abusing for 99 lives, I occasionally fail, and that brings me back to redeem myself after failure. Sunshine is similar in that right because after however long it has been, I still have not completed the game to 100% because I die, and there are consequences when that happens. After I 100% Odyssey, which I will, because it is a great game worthy of the time to complete it, I will probably not pick it up again for quite a few years, if ever. The feeling of tension and motivation is something that Classical Sonic did perfectly, the first few zones are easy and shouldn’t give you a problem, as to be friendly to new players. Then Labyrinth zone comes in and reminds you that your 15 lives can go away in an in instant. Many people find that especially considering you must start over from the beginning if you die enough, but for me, that’s the motivating factor behind playing the game over and over until I win. Zones like the Starlight Zone exist to give the player the calm moments to focus on collectables and get the Chaos Emeralds. Starlight zone is hard to die in and it’s such a memorable moment to me because it’s a welcome break from the panic attack that is Labyrinth zone, and the final area, where practically everything on the screen can kill you. Mario Odyssey has areas that are designed to be low stress down perfectly, and the sense of adventure is well done, but it is missing a proper Scrap Brain Zone, an area where you will die unless you do perfectly, and anything short of perfection means game over, and getting taunted. While that high pressure is often frustrating, Odyssey will never produce the feeling of winning on your last life, the determination forms the moment where it is do or die. I think a better way to accomplish what odyssey was trying, is to either have easy mode operate with the 10-coin system and hard mode have lives, or lives switch to the 10 coin system after the story concludes.

When i first played, i immediately got addicted to this game. I got so addicted that i finished the whole story in one day. And i realized how short this games main story is. And i think that's one problem with the game. It would had been nice to pic the amount of moons needed to get to the next kingdom. Sort of like a difficult level. But that is really a minor complain. My two absolute favorite moment in the game is after the final boss and the NDC festival. Those sorts of moments just makes you smile a lot. Expand

When this was first announced I can confidently say I had an incredible amount of faith in this game. As time passed and the switch was released, the hype continued, waiting to play the first 3d sandbox Mario game on the go. E3 only added to the hype with Nintendo's direct trailer, and announcement that the game would arrive in November. Here we are now, with a game of the year nomination on our hands. A real amazement to play. The game's opening doesn't take its time. Tutorials are fluently integrated into the beginning of the game. Introducing you to a wide variety of controls, that can fluctuate your playing style from simple to complex in a matter of button presses. With one of the most clean control schemes I have ever played a game with. Not only do the controls make the game a real charm, but the art style is one to remember. The HD graphics of the switch enable Mario's adventure to look incredible. From the waterfalls of the Cascade Kingdom, the bustling city of the metro kingdom, the tasty colors of the Luncheon Kingdom, to the rolling hills of the Mushroom Kingdom and more this game delivers an amazing presentation. Not only looking amazing no matter your location but introducing new characters and features that will hopefully become staples of Mario games to come. Only adding to the spectacular experience of the gameplay. With the already amazing controls the gameplay only makes them show even better. Your pace of playing through the game can differ so much based on where you go in the sprawling lands this game has to offer. Play through the game gathering as much moons as you can find. Or speed through, using specific hat tricks and jumps to hurry your way through the game to beat it as fast as possible. Moons (the games main item you need to find in order to progress) are scattered across every nook and cranny of every kingdom. Your means of finding them can range from simply finding a location. To playing mini levels within the worlds, which can be 2d or 3d. Or completing side quests for the residents and tourists of each location in order to choose your own path to completion. Giving a major boost in the replay value department. Not only that, but the game is crammed with features to 100 percent, and complete giving the gamer much more than the admittedly short story. After beating the game, you can unlock 3 new kingdoms (The Dark Side, Darker Side, and the Mushroom Kingdom) all with moons to find and levels to beat. With worlds gaining a massive overhaul of new moons. So your new worlds can feel new again as challenges are laid before you. With 880 moon to collect. 100 or 50 purple coins to collect in each kingdom to get in game rewards. Along with in game coins, the ones you know from other Mario games, being able to purchase a wide arrangement of outfits. Ranging from classing nostalgic clothing featured in your favorite games. To new and creative outfits, to, dressing Mario up in peaches wedding dress......
In all seriousness, the amazing gameplay, art style, range of features, and swift controls. Create this amazement in gaming anybody with a switch should have, or is worth getting a switch for.

Another overrated mediocre game. Fillers are widespread rather than careful designs. Just look at are the boss battles, in three different stages, you have the same strategy to fight the boss (except the robot which is the best boss). You have to beat many bosses twice, even including the final boss. A lot of moon collections are also repetitive.

Since "Space Invaders" was all the rage, I played literally thousands of games–but I wasn't prepared for how good "Super Mario Odyssey" is. And I'm not even a Mario fan. In fact, I rarely cared enough about this character to play a Mario game before.

"Odyssey", however, isn't just a great Mario game. It's arguably one of the greatest games ever. It's an unbridled hymn to joy that starts surprising you after a few minutes of play, and keeps surprising you every few minutes, again and again, up to the closing credits–and beyond. Every corner in "Odyssey" hides a secret–and there are many, many corners, spread across a surprising number of mini-open-world levels that feel like they came out of an LSD trip–but a very good one.

Games, even the best ones, are based on repetition. There are few activities in gaming that keep their shine after repeating them hundreds of times. Hence, the best thing I can say about "Odyssey" is this: I've collected hundreds of moons in this game–and yet, when I found a new one, I still smile. Every single time.

    PROS:
You know your game is good when it's fun to just move around, Mario's moveset is bigger than ever, there's even a new move: the infnite roll! and a returning one, the dive!
Cappy, he's a great addition, he makes for an awesome feature that never gets old and keeps things fresh so that it never feels like the same, and it doesn't feel like an after though, too! Its very fleshed out and balanced, just the way I like it.
    The OST, just, the OST.
The world are massive! There's so much to see and do and they're so filled with charm!
The boss battles are so creative and original, each one test the skills that you learned in that world, which I really like!
The Snapshot mode is an awesome feature, now you can make memes like never before!
There is SO MUCH POST GAME CONTENT ITS UNREAL! I won't spoil it but there's a lot.
The costumes, although being cosmetics, are a very nice addition to Odyssey and are just so cool! They reference so many things and is such a good bit of fan service to long time fans.
The fact they brought back Pauline from the dead puts a smile on my face.
The difficulty is just right: it goes from baby to semi challenging, not hard, just challenging, its just right for newcomers and old-timers alike.
Multiplayer is a nice addition, although it can get pretty hecktic lol.

    CONS:
The Power Moons are everywhere, and sometimes too easy to get: Kick a rock, POWER MOON, Sit on a bench next to a lonely guy, POWER MOON. BREATHE OXYGEN, POWER MOON For me, this didn't affect my experience with the game too much, but its still worth mentioning, as this can be a major turn off for some.
Motion controls are forced down your throat and some moves are locked behind them, didn't bother me too much since the Joy Cons were my main controllers but if you're using a pro controller, this can be infuriating.

    And that's it!
    Should you buy this ga-YES.
    Overall, I give this game a 10/10.
No, its not perfect, but whether you're a long time fan or have never played a video game EVER, you're gonna have a great time!

I’m late to the show, I assumed Mario and the Switch were all the same trash rehashed... I was way off. This game is amazing. Everything from the controls to the costumes feel fresh and new. I got Mario, Zelda, and Bayonetta, I tried the others but only to return to Super Mario Odyssey a short time later. I don’t review much, but I am thrilled with this game.

Mario controls like a dream. So its too bad that the game rarely does much interesting with it. Mostly just a bunch of filler moons that are just boring to collect with the rewards being even lamer. Like a boss rush, or a world with a bunch of rehashed moons youve already done. Most on here have already said basically all that you can about this game, it really is such a fun and amazing game to play, and looks so good; That being said, my only complaint, is that the game is just not re-playable to me. Going back through just to find more coins, added outfits and player hidden balloons just doesn't make me want to play this again.

Some DLC for an added story

All the worlds and characters are designed to give a sense of whimsicality and you just feel happy playing it. There are practically no low points in the game which as a completionist myself, really benefits to the overall quality and speaks volumes about how much care got put into this title. Thought this was a decent mario game, not the best levels or most memorable, mario controls really well and its fun to pull off moves to zip around the levels, but the level designs are too simple and the over-abundance of moons diminishes the feeling of getting one. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is absolutely amazing. Out of every Mario game I have played, this is the best one I have touched, and I'm sure many people agree with me that this is the best Mario game out there. The story is another interesting spin on the 'Bowser Captures Peach' formula, where he wants to marry Peach (proving the entire 'love triangle), so he decides to grab the best things for the wedding in order to make the perfect wedding. During the intro, Bowser shreds up Mario's hat, with a being known as Cappy gathering the 'M' part of his hat. The gameplay is just astounding here. The biggest change to it being Cappy. Gone are the traditional power-ups and taking their place is the CAPture ability. This allows you to take full control of any enemy, with some of them having better control with motion controls once you take off your Switch remotes. Cappy is your main weapon, as you can throw him in order to damage/CAPture enemies, and you can even use him as a platform to jump across to other platforms. Mario controls excellently in this game, and even better, the dive is back and better than ever. The graphics are just astonishing, and you'll notice it mostly in the cutscenes where everything is really fluid. While the music isn't the best it has ever been (*cough* Super Mario Galaxy *cough*), what it gets right, it gets right. My two personal favorite tracks are 'Jump Up, Super Star!' and 'Honeylune Ridge-Escape'. I'm pretty sure it's self-explanatory why those two are my favorite tracks in the game. The level design now takes an open world like feel to it, and not to mention that the visuals in each Kingdom are beautiful. Visual wise, my favorite Kingdom is the Cascade Kingdom. It's just so bright, colorful and beautiful to look at. The new characters within the game are Cappy, Tiara and the Broodals. While I can't say much about Tiara and the Broodals due to the fact that they aren't shown too much, I can talk about Cappy's personality. Even though he is helpful, selfless and heroic, he's much more than just a stereotypical hero. He gets scared easily, he's talkative, he's got real character. Unfortunately, he doesn't really have a backstory of any sorts. There are even little areas in the game where you go into a pixel pipe and you go to Super Mario Bros. gameplay style, and you can still find Power Moons in there. While the Kingdom Coins can be used to get souvenirs, you'd much rather want to use them for costumes that you can wear and change on the fly. The framerate is also really good, running at a crisp 60fps, and only dipping slightly in certain areas in the game. If you're a fan of collect-a-thons or you own a Switch, this game is a must have. Some helpful notes (or not):
    – As in every Mario's game, it's easy for newcomers but has deeper challenges for veterans.
    – It's not a game for casual players whose only played platform Mario's games. I've introduced the game for some friends and they got bored.
    – I don't know if it's good or bad, but, I thought the first stage in which you meets Cappy is a bit depressive, and not what I was expecting of a first stage in a Mario's game.
    – The visual design is stunning considering it's a Mario's game.
    – It has well designed nostalgic references and gameplay such as Mario's classic platform puzzles. Could have more, I think.
    – The song "Jump Up Super Star" is a hit!
    – I've played with my 8 and 10 year nephews. I've noticed that playing as Mario was a bit challenging for them, to control the camera disturbed them a lot during gameplay.
    – You can beat the game very fast (same as the previous Mario's games) but it definitely encourages you to get every purple coins and collectibles. To me, the replay factor is not that great.

I think it's a must play game for Nintendo Switch's owners

I would recommend this masterpiece for people who want to play an original game such as this. Sure it has the same story Peach gets kidnapped yadadadada but each game has its own unique function, this one by far is one of the most creative. You fall in love with all the characters quickly, I'm going, to be honest, the more companions Mario has it takes longer to have a connection with that character. Super Mario Odyssey's main storyline is short and that's what makes it hard to develop a connection with Cappy, but the game encourages you to keep exploring and paying attention to the little things! It's truly one of the greatest and most fun games I've ever played in my life. It gets boring after you finished pretty much the entire game, but that happens to every video game eventually.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Super Mario Odyssey harks back to the days of Super Mario 64, one of the best 3D Mario games to date. Following it up with another great title, Odyssey sends the player on a journey across multiple kingdoms around the Mario universe to rescue Princess Peach and collect 999 Power Moons. (Moons replacing Stars)

    -------------
    Difficulty:

Super Mario Odyssey handles difficulty very well. For the most part, the areas you will see if getting minimal Power Moons to move on in the storyline are at a welcoming, warm difficulty. Most players could do them easily. The post-game gets a bit more tricky, with more elaborate and difficult challenges, puzzles, and secrets to find. The Darker Side being the hardest, a long level with no checkpoints that will test your skills.

Though the game is not without its simply frustrating elements. These two very specifically being the jump rope and volleyball minigames. The volleyball one is the most frustrating because it takes forever to get going, and once it does, it's incredibly fast-paced.

    ----------

    Graphics:

The graphics for Odyssey are simply amazing and well done. From living, vivid civilizations to stunning landscapes(both in playable areas and in the distance), this game truly has a great aesthetic. The character models are well made, thought and care put in to make them match their different kingdoms. This game and Breath of The Wild both set high standards for Switch games to come.

    ---------
    Mechanics:

Odyssey's new platforming mechanics allow for all sorts of new methods of scaling landscapes. Cappy is the biggest change, of course. Throwing Cappy, you can dive into him to go further and gain height, then repeat a second time in the air. This makes some tricky jumps much more plausible and adds a new layer of fun.

The Capture mechanic ties into Cappy. When you throw him at a specific enemy, you basically possess it and are able to use its abilities. For example, in icy levels there tend to be Goombas. Capture one, you will not slip on the ice, making navigation much easier. Captures are immensely fun and helpful in your quest to obtain all 999 Power Moons placed throughout the large, sprawling kingdoms.

    ---------
    Narrative:

Mario Odyssey has a good narrative backing it. The classic tale of Peach being kidnapped by Bowser, you save her at the end, she dumps Mario and Bowser at once - wait, huh? I personally loved that plot twist, adding some humour to the end of the game.

Before you can Capture Bowser to save the world and Peach, you must first get through Bowser's new cronies, the Broodals. These painfully easy to defeat bosses will be seen and fought multiple times throughout the journey. After completing the main story, you unlock the Dark Side of the moon, which is the home of the Broodals, evidenced by the hoard of bunnies all over the small area. you learn the Broodals are the wedding planners basically from the outset of the game when it is literally mentioned. They travel the various kingdoms with Bowser, stealing specific items for the wedding.

    -----------
    Game World:

This game has such beautiful areas! Each one is crafted with an exquisite attention to detail, Nintendo really outdoing themselves here. From the gorgeous sunsets of the Seaside Kingdom to the barren desert landscape of the Sand Kingdom, there are plenty of great things about the level and hub design. The most photo-worthy is by far the Seaside Kingdom, a pristine sunset on a beautiful waterbed with jets spurting water into a giant glass, the water sparkling in the sky. (Post-boss.)

    ----------
    Main Negatives:

First of all, the human models do really need work, the faces are quite blurry and feel outdated. Then there are the simply frustrating challenges I mentioned earlier, which don't offer much in the way of fun. Instead, they turn into a repetitive, boring minigame eating away at your time and energy.

    -----------
    Conclusion:

Super Mario Odyssey is one of the best games available on the Switch right now. From its likeable characters to its gorgeous graphics(minus the human characters) to its impeccable level design utilizing its fresh mechanics, Odyssey is a must for Switch owners. If you're into platforming, that is. A LOT of it.

Love this game, an excellent soundtrack and some of the best gameplay in a platformer, this game really captures the spirit of what Mario is all about, it has alot of soul and amazing little details such as Mario dancing along to the band performance and much more.
The only complaints I have about this game is the lack of Mario/Luigi multiplayer and the shortness of the overall game, but

Este debería haber sido el juego del año de no ser por la maravilla que ha supuesto la nueva entrega de Zelda.
Entretenido juego para todos los públicos, desde gente queriendo echar solo un rato hasta aquellos que buscan desafíos.

Mario Odyssey is a beautiful title with diverse worlds and an amazing soundtrack, I found myself having a blast exploring the landscapes and finding hidden moons by utilizing the possession mechanic. The hat also allows for cool platforming tricks and if you master it, you can get to many moons and other locations without the use of possession. So there is a skill curve if you're willing to learn. The reason this game only scores an 8 is because despite the hat, it lacks the innovation of the Galaxy titles and I preferred Galaxy and 64 overall. Expand

This is an amazing game, not the best, but it's fun, enjoyable, not a great story, but story isn't everything, plus Luigi's Balloon World is a fun side mode that does not require paid online.

Mario finally returns to his 3d open world sandbox wonderland. This game brings back childhood memories and is very nostalgic. The game's visually stunning looking like a next gen Mario game with incredible lighting, effects, the game runs at a buttery smooth 60fps which is a godsend for the game. Just buy the game I don't need to say anymore the game is a classic Nintendo masterpiece.

While it was difficult to imagine how Nintendo could top previous 3D Mario adventures, Super Mario Odyssey is nigh-on perfect in almost every way. With the help of Cappy, Mario has never been as fun to control, reaching new heights and, in the hands of a skilled player, accomplishing impossible skips. You need only pick up a controller to see why this is the best modern Mario game ever.

The best entry to the best platforming series is so ridiculously huge it’s like a theme park made of theme parks. It’s a wonderful tribute to Super Mario 64, but it’s not a lazy homage. Super Mario Odyssey draws inspiration from the superb classic to top it and everything that came after it. [13/2017, p.38]

Perhaps no past Mario game has ever elicited so many smiles as this, and even if every other winning aspect of its design were set aside, that reality alone would make it a masterpiece. [Issue #31 – January/February 2018, p. 39E]
