    Super Mario Odyssey is the BEST game of all time. This game is the result of 32 years of constant innovation of the Mario franchise. Nintendo has always pushed the Mario games to be the most fun possible and it is evident here. Every kingdom is a wonder to explore and ever moon is a blast to collect, even if some are the same. This game alone justified the purchase of a Nintendo Switch.Super Mario Odyssey is the BEST game of all time. This game is the result of 32 years of constant innovation of the Mario franchise. The game is an absolute joy to play and I can't recommend it enough! Cappy is an extension of Mario and the best addition to the franchise since Mario 64's camera. I'm now stuck here wondering if Nintendo can continue to push the mainline Mario games further. The music, the graphics, it's all too perfect.     Absolutely amazing! Each kingdom feels different from each other. I like how this game encourages exploration to find all of the moons in the kingdom. Cappy is great and the capture mechanic works flawlessly. Its amazing how many great ideas they were able to come up with in the game. This is probably the second best Mario game in general. Incredible!!

    A fantastic game, one of my favorites.
    It has nice graphics and a very good and detailed overworld. The Boss fights are very nice(my Favorite one is the Dragon)
    The Final Bowser fight is a Little Bit lame for the Final Boss. Overall a masterpiece

    This game is really good. The soundtrack is amazing! Though, after completing the game, I do not feel like playing it anymore, and that is why it only gets 7/10. The difficulty is balanced even for Nintendo Switch newcomers and this was my first game I played on a Switch.

    If you want to just casually play the game, I think it is a fine 10-13 hour long experience. If you are going for    This game is really good. The soundtrack is amazing! The difficulty is balanced even for Nintendo Switch newcomers and this was my first game I played on a Switch.

    If you want to just casually play the game, I think it is a fine 10-13 hour long experience. If you are going for collecting 100% of the power moons, I think it is something around 25 hours. I really want to collect all of them, but simply there is no point for doing it. Most of the power moons are simply lying around in the open, which makes them easy to find, but absolutely not rewarding at all. Take Cat Shines in Bowser's Fury for example. They are always locked away behind some kind of a challenge (such as riding Plessie, chasing down a rabbit, chasing shadow Luigi, general platforming on islands...), they are challenging to get and feel rewarding. In Super Mario Odyssey, that is no longer the case.

    The other thing about Power Moons is that there are way, way too many. That amount is absolutely unnecessary, and could have been lowered by 250 at least. Most of the moons are in the open anyway. There are around 850 unique moons to collect around the kingdoms, but the rest is locked away, because you have to buy the remaining 149 moons from shops for coins. Not only that it is an extremely lame decision, but you can buy the moons indefinitely, allowing you to reach the 999 goal (100%) with not much effort. Just buy tons of Moons. And if someone does so, you are not going to feel like collecting actual moons anymore, because you simply have the golden Odyssey sail, no point in doing it. Not mentioning that some of them make absolutely no sense. Why would some idiot even make a parking lot for motorbikes on a roof with only one single spot and even give you something for parking there? How did they expect citizen to regularly reach there!

    Nintendo's idea about purple coins is absolutely ridiculous. There is no way to find every purple coin in the game without looking for them, there is no way to buy a hint like for Power Moons. Now you might be thinking, that they are around Power Moons to find. Well, yeah, good point, but not really the greatest. There is always a chance that someone may miss some while going for the moons, either because they just want to play the game or miss them by accident. If that happens, what are you going to do? Do all moons again to traverse most of the kingdom one more time only to miss them again, or look them up on YouTube? All collectibles in all games which force the player to look them up on YouTube are bad collectibles, and purple coins cannot save themselves from being crap, that is how Nintendo created them.

    I really like that you can dress up Mario in some costumes, most of them look really really good. Some of the outfits grant you access to specific areas through the game and certain characters have some reactions when talking to them with a specific outfit. Most of them are really expensive, though, especially those ones unlocked later on (prices go up to 9999 coins for one item!!!), and they are absolutely unnecessary. Could have been lowered to 75% price.

    A big plus is that the game has lots of post-game content. If you completed the game on 100%, you still can kill some time playing Luigi's Balloon World, which is fun, if you don't encounter hackers, but that's a story for another time.

    Tanks are an absolutely ass capture. No, seriously. When playing while capturing a tank, you will feel that it is really off. They are so slow and aiming is painful as hell. The crosshair moves at different speeds on Y and X axis, meaning it is really hard to aim (and obviously, you cannot change it!)

    Also a good thing to ask, why do the characters behave like absolute idiots? I understand that it is a game for kids, but keep in mind that adults and teens play as well. Some of the characters say absolute trash and feel like they have vacuum in their brain. They also made Pauline a gold digger (she does not like cheap nice umbrellas, but likes expensive purses instead LOL).

    The very last two post game kingdoms are not kingdoms and have no reason to exist in the first place. They are not kingdoms, but doors to challenge rooms (one to a boss rush and the second one to a super long and tight section with no checkpoints). They just randomly added couple Moons to one of them to make them seem less empty and left them to rot there, but that did not help. They should have been in the last kingdom of the main story and just opened up after you reached all requirements to access them. With one being significantly emptier than the other, there are more almost completely blank kingdoms around the game. What a wasted opportunities they were, what a pity. Story moment, then random Moons and then bye.

    I find this as a game that is filled with seemingly endless fun with so many cool characters and the customizability is something I always desire in a game the story of the game is something to be admired and the familiarity with this sort of game makes it part of the fun and some may think it Is easy i believe it had the perfect balance between fun and challenge.

    Arguably one of the best Mario games to date with the unique concepts introduced, Mario Odyssey stands far apart from other 3D Mario games. Hours of exciting gameplay, a large collectable challenge and a fitting soundtrack all work together to create a stunning experience on the Switch.

    Best game ever. Literally everything about this game managed to blow me away, down from the captures, to the ending, and even the graphics and soundtrack. Everything here just feels so good and truly made me feel like I was at home. And dare I say that this is way better than even the otherwise incredible Super Mario 64 as well

    The best 3D Mario game, it is graphically very beautiful and the gameplay is innovative and fun, in addition to giving rise to many possibilities, especially the mechanics of the hat.     Odyssey is one of my favorite Mario games. I love the different worlds, and the cap mechanics are a lot of fun.
    Some areas towards the end can be a bit frustrating, but that's what makes a good Mario game.

    For the first proper open world Mario game, it's good, though it is a bit overrated. The amount of items islands is great and the new ability to be able to throw Cappy and repossess certain enemies is genius. The level design is great. However, there are a few Kingdoms (which is what the islands are called in this game) that needed some extra work. The amount of costumes you can get for Mario is cool (Finally, coins are actually useful for once in a mainline Mario game!!!)and the amount of Easter eggs in this game is great as well. Apart from that though, this really is a masterpiece and I still score it a 9.5/10 (because for some stupid reason we can only give whole numbers as scores on Metacritic).… Expand

    The best platformer i ever played. Every kingdom uses whit charm, the game looks gorgeous, and thheres so many movement mechanics, most of them not needed to complete the game, but to make the gameplay much more fun.

    Some of the best Mario gaming in existence. The gameplay mechanics are flawless and the world is believable, beautiful, and hilarious. There's something for everyone here. Lots to explore and discover too. The only weakness may be its lackluster story, which is more than made up for with its smooth buttery gameplay.

    - The gameplay choice is discutable : you can finish the game quickly, finding only half of the available stars. Doing that, you go without half of the fun of this game

    This may just be the worst video game ever created as first of all this game looks like my POO POO, Chicken Nuggies. Next this game is very uncreative unlike much better games such as Call of Duty 356 Part 2: Modern Black Opps or FIFA26: The Rise Of Ballers and what does Mario Odyssey have? Hats? Yeah right daddy. Play a real game like Roblox Gigached Gamers.

    It’s been four to five years ever since I’ve bought super Mario odyssey, and I can safely say it’s one of my top recommendations for Nintendo switch. Everything about it just screams what Mario should be. I rarely ever had a bad moment playing this game. It somehow fits along the lines and pure blissful fun and some challenges. Although I do have to say, the games a little too easy toIt’s been four to five years ever since I’ve bought super Mario odyssey, and I can safely say it’s one of my top recommendations for Nintendo switch. Everything about it just screams what Mario should be. I rarely ever had a bad moment playing this game. It somehow fits along the lines and pure blissful fun and some challenges. Although I do have to say, the games a little too easy to complete (unless you’ve 100’d it). But I still very much like the new direction of Mario this game seems to have. The movement feels good, and the controls for the captures are usually easy to memorize and master. The story is a basic Mario game and nothing you wouldn’t expect. My only real problems are that you can’t see which kingdom tokens you haven’t picked up. Each kingdom, although a few rather barren, is beautiful and really gives each character Mario and his trusty cap walk to so charming and fun to see what they'll say. For an awesome, replayable, charming, action-packed bundle of fun this game exceeds expectations. This is probably the most fun game to just move your character and play around, since his moveset is full, although some locked behind some questionable motion implementation. So why don't I give it a 10? Well, you see, I've gotten all 999 moons in this game, and although most of them are fun to collect, some missions repeat themselves so much to the point where around half of them are filler that impacts the fun a bit. Only a bit, though, since if you look past 3 kingdoms where all you do is beat someone up, and filler quest, you've got a true odyssey you're about to experience!… Expand

    Lo malo radica en su dificultad, que no escala progresivamente y se siente mas como un bonito paseo con escasa duración. Es decir, el juego no es un gran desafío, por lo que sus nuevas mecánicas se sienten desaprovechadas    Una gran entrega de la franquicia que nos otorga hermosos escenarios, música que no defrauda, jugabilidad pulida con mimo y le saca provecho al hardware de la Switch.

The amount of work put in the game is huge, the graphics are realistic for a Mario game. The only downside is how fast I played it, wanting more. Overall great game, waiting for a sequel.

And easily has the best levels, level themes, graphics, collectables, and physics of any Mario game. This game brings me immense joy no matter how many times i play it. I just wish it was longer.     Nach Super Mario World und der Nostalgie, die ich mich diesem Spiel verbinde, hätte ich nie gedacht, dass ich noch mal so von einem Mario Spiel umgehauen werde. Odyssey war einfach ein grandioses Spiel mit unglaublich guter Steuerung als Jump n Run. Ich hoffe so sehr, dass ein zweiter Teil kommt!     My only real complaint is that the worlds aren’t longer and I wish Yoshi was in the game more but even then this game is so much fun I love it!

    Super Mario Odyssey is by far my favourite game of all time, the game goes back to the days of Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine and manages to perfect those formulas and ideas (such as the idea of losing your main companion and being put to the test in smaller challenges from Sunshine).     As well the amazing gimmick in becoming things, Cappy adds depth to the platforming and makes this the best controlling Mario we have ever had the privilege to play as. There are a ton of moves at your disposal that you lead into each other such as throwing Cappy midair and then diving into him to get further, and the motion controls don't feel forced they are integrated well into the game so that they fit into Mario's move set well. This game truly feels fun to just mess around in.

    The level design is fantastic but there are two kingdoms Ruined and Cloud kingdom that basically serve as a place to have a boss fight, which I feel is a tad underwhelming given the potential the themes these levels have, a medieval kingdom inspired Mario level is an idea that we have never seen before and I would love to see that idea expanded on further.

    But the rest of the kingdoms are massive open almost play ground like levels where every corner you turn has something new to discover. Levels such as the Sea Side Kingdom and the Sand Kingdom Are massive open spaces that let you go crazy and explore. But levels such as the Snow Kingdom and the Wooded Kingdom are multiple levels in one that you discover by exploring. The game actively encourages exploration, but not in a Metroidvania kind of way as it gives you hints in the map and Cappy's speech.

    The sound track is a mixed bag as some tracks can be somewhat forgettable, the ones that do land correctly will stay in your head for the next week. Songs such as Jump Up Superstar (The main theme) the Shivirea town theme and Steam Gardens are all great examples of video game music composing done right.

    A quick mention to the decorations and clothing you can get as it finally gives coins more of a purpose and the new purple coins make you explore the entire kingdom to its fullest.

    Game was too short and lackluster I really didn't enjoy my time with it as it was so short on content and even with dark and darker side of the moon it all felt really boring to me and overall uninteresting. Overhyped and overrated game in my honest opinion

    Mario games keep defining the 3D platformers genre. This entry is aesthetically pleasing, and keeps player engaged, by introducing varying levels of challenges all over semi-open level design, that allow player to decide what he wants to do, what he wants to skip, and what can be revisited later.
    This entry bring some uniqueness by redefining what Mario's power-up can be. It also    Mario games keep defining the 3D platformers genre. This entry is aesthetically pleasing, and keeps player engaged, by introducing varying levels of challenges all over semi-open level design, that allow player to decide what he wants to do, what he wants to skip, and what can be revisited later.

There also seems to be just right level of precision required for its platforming heavy moments, which could be taken for granted by most of the player, but some 3d games proven it can be done really well or really badly, and you only pay attention to the latter.

    Only critique to the game would be that some of most difficult parts of the game, are challenging because the span for very long, and require you to do some very old sequences all over again to be beaten which gets quite tedious, and leads to frustration requiring taking breaks from the game in order not to break the game-pad.    … Expand

    This game does something very rare for me. After I beat it I was sad it was over. just like Mario 64 before which is that I truly don't think it will ever get old. If you haven't played this yet go play it you wont be disappointed.

    The soundtrack is fantastic, with awesome songs with a variety of different arrangements that combine to create songs that you're sure to come back to.

    The story is pretty basic, but that's not a necessarily a bad thing due to being just a Mario game. There isn't anything wrong with the story either, it's just a lighthearted and fun story that ends with a pretty great ending.

    What's great about this game is that it encourages the player to play how they want to play. You might go through some of the intended route on your first playthrough, but in future playthroughs you'll find yourself going through most of the game your way, which is really fun. Not to mention how replayable this game is. You will find countless of things to do both during and after you complete the main story, including many interesting side quests and several fun minigames.

    Overall, this is an absolute masterpiece from start to finish. If you're planning on getting Switch or already have one, this is the game to get.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Basically, imagine every mechanic from previous 3D super mario games all in one game. This is what you get. Being able to throw a cap around is incredible. Honestly, some of the worlds are probably the same size or a little larger than of the worlds from Super Mario 64. If not, then the space of each part of the world is equivalent to 64 and Sunshine and what not but that's probably just a spec issue with the switch that they had to deal with somehow. The worlds are still decently large for exploration. Despite all this, the game has a sense of freedom cause Mario isn't forced to return to a specific spot after grabbing one collectible but rather he just needs to get a "multi-moon" and is then teleported back to the start of the world but this is usually after you fight a boss. The game just feels like a gigantic playground that you wonder in. There's little that is required of you, you just have to follow the path, get past obstacles, and fight a boss. The game has the difficulty of Mario Galaxy, so you won't need Assist Mode unless you're too lost in the game, don't wanna lose 10 coins for every death, or you just miss the large amount of health Mario had. Anyway, there are tons of outfits to choose from in the game, but each require a certain amount of coins. This is the best of Mario and I love it. Not much has changed except Bowser's creative wedding plan but now that Mario's Moveset is expanded, it makes for a nice open-world. No dashing, but there's rolling and long-jumping (and even the famous air dive from Mario 64 DS). There also no punch or kick but at least Mario can beat his enemies thoroughly without a traditional fighting technique. Mario has been moderately under-powered but don't worry because cappy expands his moveset even farther. Allowing Mario to do many tricks and even out-numbering the tricks he can do in previous games. Now you can make up for that extra distance his Long Jump can't cover by just doing an air dive onto Cappy so he can bounce you up for extra air-time. There's so many collectibles to get and so many ways to get them. It's a legendary Mario sandbox and it's peak exploration.… Expand

    The game is so cool, just a new fresh mario. The lvl are well desinged and very fun to play, the bosses are very cool and the overall gamemechanics are great, the story is a bit weak and short.

    Super Mario Odyssey is the best Mario game. the graphics are excellent, the story is great, the platforming mechanics are very good, the camera controls actually work, which cannot be said for the other 3d Mario experiences. the mechanic of capturing enemies with Cappy is a good gimmick as well. this game is a must have for the switch.

    I have never loved a video game as much as I love this one. There's no other way to describe the Odyssey experience. So many hours of exploring and entertainment. Please let Nintendo make a sequel sooner than later.

    This game is everything right with 3D platforming. It was the reason why i bought a switch and I have put over 300 hours into it over the years. The capture mechanic was so interesting and innovative which made it so everytime I played a level I would approach it in a different way. The community that was created is also so intriguing and played a big part in me replaying it over and over again.

    This game is amazing. Every location feels fresh and exciting to explore, The story while not being Shakespeare doesn't push it's boundaries and is just what's needed to advance the story. This is the only game I've ever wanted to 100% just because the mechanics of Cappy and the movement controls were so fluid. The only downside to this game is that there's no DLC or good multiplayer.

    Wow, this game is the closest thing to mario galaxy that has ever been created. The multiple worlds and movement options feel super fresh. The only thing that might drag it down a little is the overworld for me. I do like the globe being the world but it feels too linear to me.

    Absolutely great game with unique mechanics, great stylized graphics and a nice and simple linear progression. While (for me) it doesn’t have much replay ability but, that first time playing is absolutely magical. A great game along with BOTW to the switch era of Nintendo games.

    As this was my very first Switch game, I am slightly biased for this game.
    However, this game is impossible not to love! It has the charm of Super Mario 64, and the creativity and graphics of Galaxy.
    The story is an AMAZING one, and the bossfights are amazing as well! Capturing enemies was a blast, and the gameplay is, once again, amazing!
    10/10, would recommend!

The bar was already set so high but every new kingdom I explored just made the game even better. The core story is paced very tightly while still leaving plenty of room for side exploration and new discoveries to be made. Mechanics are finely tuned and superior to all other 3D Mario games I've played and the worlds to explore are simply unmatched.

    Just when I thought of something they could do to improve the game, I discover something so much better than what I thought of and I'm having fun collecting hidden moons long after I've completed the core game. What really is the icing on the cake however is the overall celebration he game delivers for Mario as a franchise. Returning to N64-inspired Peach's castle and completing quests really completes the experience makes this game the ultimate Mario celebration game in my book.

    If you're a long-standing Nintendo/Mario fan, you'll eat this up. If not, you'll probably enjoy the pure fun the game brings to the table anyway.    … Expand

    While it was difficult to imagine how Nintendo could top previous 3D Mario adventures, Super Mario Odyssey is nigh-on perfect in almost every way. With the help of Cappy, Mario has never been as fun to control, reaching new heights and, in the hands of a skilled player, accomplishing impossible skips. You need only pick up a controller to see why this is the best modern Mario game ever.

    The best entry to the best platforming series is so ridiculously huge it’s like a theme park made of theme parks. It’s a wonderful tribute to Super Mario 64, but it’s not a lazy homage. Super Mario Odyssey draws inspiration from the superb classic to top it and everything that came after it. [13/2017, p.38]
