Masterpiece gameplay 10/10. It has an insane amount of puzzles, powers up and a variety of worlds, all are unique and interesting. There is no way someone will play this game and won't like at least one puzzle or one part of it.

The bad part about this game is the same as pretty much all others Mario's games, the story is lackluster, it is like a story on a porn movie it is just there

The bad part about this game is the same as pretty much all others Mario's games, the story is lackluster, it is like a story on a porn movie it is just there because it needs to be. C'mon, the game was released in 2017, I think it is time for a more depth story.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how good are the puzzles and the challenges, if the story isn't good the game is forgettable and just a pastime and for that, Mario Odyssey works perfectly.

You guessed it. Princess Peach has been kidnapped by Bowser and it's time for the mustached hero to save the day again. Admittedly this is my first time picking up another mario platformer since probably Super Mario 64 back in 1996. I was more hooked on the party games and the Paper Mario series versus the genre staple.

The new design for Odyssey is based around your new friend Cappy.

Admittedly this is my first time picking up another mario platformer since probably Super Mario 64 back in 1996. I was more hooked on the party games and the Paper Mario series versus the genre staple.

The new design for Odyssey is based around your new friend Cappy. Your old red hat bites the dust and you meet a race of hat people who just happen to be able to turn into special hats. The special twist comes from you can throw your hat on to a bunch of different things in the game. Mario physically takes it over like some voodoo mind control, while forcing all things to don a mustache. A T-rex with a mustache. Hysterical.

Platformers stick to the tried and true recipe. Collect so many of these items while maneuvering around tricky landscapes and enemies. With a skill that needs to be precise otherwise a quick death and starting back from the beginning. Odyssey hides a number of the special star items cleverly around each world. You only need about 10% of the total stars to progress through each world if you want to rush down Bowser. For the collectors out there, there is definitely a time sink waiting if you want to 100% the game.

Overall I enjoyed my time jumping around the different creative worlds in Odyssey. The levels were beautiful and all based around the theme of the world. Samurai, Dinosaurs, Snow etc. There were even outfits you can spend coins on to buy world outfits and make your Mario look flashy. Or spend 1000 coins to have your Mario run around in his boxers. Whatever your heart desired.
The annoyances came from the 3D platforming. Gone are the easy days of 2D side scrolling where you just worried about forwards and backwards. It takes precise control making the timed jumps needed in most levels, using the switch joy-cons as intended, one wrong slight angle and you are plummeting to your death. Jumping down from a height and thinking you will land safely, only to overshoot it by a hair and again….die. Frustrating but not terrible.

Quite possibly the best 3D Mario game to date. Everything that was an issue with the previous games; Mario 64's age, Sunshine's jankiness, and the Galaxy games' linearity were all fixed.

Super Mario Odyssey is without any doubt the funniest game I have ever played and it reminded us what a game should be. Many know the iconic phrase that the president of Nintendo America Reggie Fils-Aime said in E3 2017 "... [the game] if it's not fun, why bother? ". Super Mario Odyssey builds its legacy on this phrase, as every single level from the start until the end is a joy.
When I played the game for the first time, I felt so happy that I cannot remove the 2 meters wide grin I had on my face.
Each single NPC, character or enemy can be controlled with your new friend Cappy, that let turns Mario into whichever he trows his hat into. Even object like trees can be controlled. Why would you want to become a tree? Because you can! Because its fun!
Every level it's unique and lets the player choose how to approach it. For every platform challenge, there are at least two ways of dealing with it, making it extremely flexible and replayable. The only exception in what you can and cannot transform are the bosses (which in one case you can transform in it). Even with all the possibilityes you have, I think that Super Mario Odissey has just scratched the surface of it's capabilityes, has instead of keep using one mechanic for long, it immediatly hits you with a new one.
The music are not to the usual Mario game standards, they are to a Super Mario 64 / Galaxy standard. Just magnificent piece of art.
The art direction is possibly the best in any other Mario game, has you never have too much of a single color at screen, but with each level, the personality of the world changes, making you feel differently based on which level you are playing.
There is so much potential that I cannot explain how much I'm begging a sequel to this incredible masterpiece, trully an incredible gaming experience that must be played at some point.

So let's just begin, the game has 14 kingdoms to explore (17 if you also count Mushroom Kingdom, Dark Side, and Darker Side which are the post-game kingdoms) and they are all amazing and unique in their own way, of course there are some I don't like as much as the others, most notably Snow Kingdom, but all of them are still really good. The game focuses on collecting Power Moons and you need to get enough to escape the kingdom and reach the next one. Most kingdoms are filled to the brim with stuff to explore and some kingdoms, like Sand Kingdom and Seaside Kingdom give a more open-world vibe to the game, but then others like Cascade Kingdom and Lake Kingdom
focus a bit more on the linear sub-areas (Which I also really like). This review would probably be too long if I
would have to talk about every single kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey and how great they are, so I'm not going
to right now. Other than Power Moons there are also Regional/Purple coins to collect in each kingdom, generally
the larger kingdoms have 100 of them and the smaller ones have only 50, while the ones that are just boss battles, (Cloud Kingdom, Ruined Kingdom etc.) don't have any, there are also countless souvenirs and music tracks to collect, and you can play any music track you want at any time you want, which is a pretty cool bonus feature. Now, you might have noticed I still haven't mentioned the main gimmick of this game, the captures. I love the captures in this game, some of them are practically useless, some of them like the spark pylons are extremely important and are basically necessary to beat the game. I like the gimmick because of how unique it is and it's a bit of a break from getting the exact same power-ups every single time in Mario games. Other than that there's not much more to talk about other than the outfits, which were a cool bonus feature too where you can dress up as a lot of outfits (Mostly themed to the kingdom they're bought in). And Luigi's Balloon World, which is a fun extra side-mode where you try to pop balloons that other people placed in a certain kingdom, or you can hide balloons and make other people try to find them. So, overall I love Super Mario Odyssey and it is and probably will always be one of the best Mario games ever made. Thank you for reading.

It was almost 10 years since the last full blown 3D Mario game, Galaxy 2. My first playthrough of this game was very fast, I was shocked to see the credits scrolling on my screen after barely 10 hours of gameplay. Though it was probably my own fault, since I only collected the bare minimum of required moons to run the ship. My second time around with the game was much more gratifying since I tried to collect as many moons from each world as I could. Even so, I felt the devs should have increased the required amount of moons needed to fuel the ship.

The underlying structure of game progression is the same. Collect a number of these, unlock new worlds, get to Bowser. But I love the fact that the game didn’t boot me out of the world after collecting a moon. This meant each world could have a crap ton of moons, without any discontinuity. Most of them involved a clever puzzle, mini-game, or hiding spot. Among my favorite were the classic 2D platforming sequences. The gameplay really wasn’t anything special, but something about seeing the oldest Mario game, in the newest Mario game made me smile. Other moons warped me to a separate mini platforming game, usually with a little twist. Most were pretty fun, and changed things up a bit.

And we can’t talk about Odyssey without talking about the cap, which basically made Mario into Kirby. Taking control of classic Mario baddies was a lot of fun. Even just running around as a goomba was amusing. Each had some ability that would help level progression. Goombas could walk on ice. Latikus could fish out moons. Tanks could blast through rock barriers. Flying drybones could get my past lava. Just a bunch of cool abilities. I found myself throwing my hat at every moving thing to see if I could posses it. My favorite by far were these long legged nut enemies. Winding them up to reach places was a neat way to explore the forest world.

I thought that the Moon collection system in the game was incredibly repetitive and honestly became a chore for me. I did not feel any sense of accomplishment when I got a Moon. This was probably because of how easy the game is. The game is such an easy breeze that it felt meaningless to me. The capture mechanic was the coolest thing to me when I first tried it out on every enemy but it got old WAY too fast. The visuals are very striking and love that the game runs at a stable 60fps which absolutely makes this the most visually impressive Mario game yet. The controls feel super snappy and the music is incredible. Unfortunately though, these positives straight up do not outweigh the negatives to me. As I already mentioned, the moment-to-moment gameplay just does not feel meaningful to me because of the game's lack of difficulty and collectables (the integral Moon system). This, by all means, does not mean the game is bad but it doesn't mean it's amazing either :/ Expand

You meet up with Mario’s new friend Cappy who can help Mario pull off crazy jumps he couldn’t before, and he has the ability to allow Mario to possess enemies and use their abilities. Mario has never controlled so amazing before. If you die, it’s usually your fault. You travel the world collecting hundreds of Power Moons to power up the Odyssey and progress in your quest. The level design is magnificent. It features small kingdoms with lots of small structures and almost no platforming, medium kingdoms with a good balance of both, and huge kingdoms with more platforming sections underground and a massive world to explore. The Power Moons can require platforming, timed challenge, racing, advancing in the main story, wearing a specific costume, or even sitting in front of you for no reason. The game is pretty stable. You have to work for a glitch to even occur. A very small number of glitches are random and almost unnoticeable. The soundtrack makes you want to hum or sing along with it. Mario finally has a song in a video game with lyrics! Jump Up, Super Star! is a good song to listen to. The orchestrated themes for kingdoms in this game just take your breath away. The following are some of my favorites: Jump Up, Super Star!, Cascade Kingdom theme, Metro Kingdom theme, Mechawiggler theme, Jump Up, Super Star! (8-bit remix). This game has a ton of extra content. After the main story, there are hundreds of Power Moons left to collect throughout the 18 kingdoms in the game. There’s also a free online mode called Luigi’s Balloon World where you can hide balloons around the kingdom for other people to find them. You can earn coins and increase your rank as you hide or find balloons. There’s also a VR mode where you travel to different kingdoms to recruit musicians for Pauline. The story is pretty simple: Bowser kidnaps Peach to have a wedding with her while also kidnapping a floating tiara named Tiara. After Bowser hits Mario into the Cap Kingdom, he meets Tiara’s brother named Cappy. The two set off together to save Peach and Tiara from Bowser and his minions. They must travel the world collecting Power Moons as Bowser and his wedding planners, the Broodals, steal items for the wedding on the moon. After saving Peach and Tiara, they go on a world tour to the kingdoms they visited but of their own free will. Mario is the only playable character, but Cappy can be player 2. Mario can buy lots of costumes to wear in the game. With 55 hats and 55 suits, some of my favorites include: Super Mario 64 costume, Wedding outfit, 8-Bit Mario hat, Metal Mario outfit, Diddy Kong costume, and Samurai outfit. Almost every Power Moon in the game is fairly easy to collect, but some increase in difficulty if platforming is involved. When this game has Power Moons that are considered hard, they are really difficult to complete most of the time. The Darker Side of the moon is the hardest level in the entire game. Not the best difficulty for a 3D Mario, but Odyssey is something new. We need time to adjust to the gameplay and become pros. The bosses are all new and unique to the Super Mario franchise. After defeating each boss, the only way to refight them is to fight them on their harder versions. Each boss feels different to fight, and each boss is fun to fight. The graphics, in my opinion, are the best graphics on Nintendo Switch! The environments are colorful and detailed enough to look like Mario. New Donk City looks like a real life city put into Mario! Overall, this game is a must-buy if you have a Nintendo Switch. I’d rate this game a 10/10. Expand

Mario’s movement and control have never felt so fluid. Unfortunately, the game rarely ever challenges you to use any of the movement skills you learn during the game. Definitely NOT the best Mario game out there. The worlds seemed relatively small and much of the game was boring, a lot of redundant work, and not enjoyable. However… it is the main Mario entry on the Switch. Although it is not enjoyable, I would still recommend this game as there is still some worth to the experience. Just do not expect it to be nearly as enjoyable as Galaxy.

Bella grafica, in perfetto stile Nintendo. Ottimo comparto audio. Alcune trovate davvero originali e gameplay semplicemente perfetto. Peccato per un livello di difficoltà davvero basso, che lo rende poco più che un cartone animato da guardare. Tutto troppo, troppo semplice. Sembra pensato per bambini.

Some super creative, fun ideas, and the core 3D Mario gameplay will never be bad. But, this felt overstuffed. Truly an insane amount of collectibles to the point it cheapens the experience. I would normally play all the extras in a Mario game. With this one I dropped out an hour or two after I got to the credits.

Easily the best 3D jump‘n run which was ever made. And who could made this better than Nintendo the maker of the awesome Mario 64 before 2 decades. The gameplay is perfectly done on a level on which just a handful of games has ever claimed it. All in all this makes this game to the best available for the Switch today.

The game's a pretty good platformer, yes, but besides some new and inventive landscapes (the Luncheon, Ruined, Snow and Metro Kingdoms), and brilliantly handled in-game camera, this game just feels like a babified Mario Galaxy. With blander environments that are either too blocky or flat, many Power Moons being located in easy-to-find areas (even just being available to BUY with the in-game currency, meaning you can just grind for coins to get them), a FEW good songs in the soundtrack with the rest being quite forgettable and barely that much difficulty besides the Dark and Darker sides of the Moon (two places that you can visit after beating the main piss-easy game might I add) I don't think this game lives up to games like the Galaxy Duology, or even Sunshine or 64 (despite being a successor to the latter two games). Each world is jam-packed with love an attenion to detail. The plot is basic but sufficent, TL;DR Bowser kidnapped peach and it is Mario's job to save him. The plot could have been better becuase we have seen the same plot all the way back in 1985 with Super Mario Bros. The love an care this game gets is undeniable. Each world feels real and blessed with life. This time we can change marios apperance with the Crazy Caps store. For some of the Sub Areas it can be repetative to constantly restart again and agian especialy if you haven't played previous Mario 3D games and the motion controls can be unresponsive but can also be intuitive and a blast if you use the right controlers. If you decide to use the switch pro controler or play in handheld mode it isn't great, the true way to play is with detached joycons. Cappy comes in as Mario's cap is shreaded and cappy is his replacement, cappy can 'capture' (posses) any animate or inaminate object. Frogs, dinosaurs and much more. The multiplayer is horrible, the second player becomes cappy and Mario is left defenceless, cappy can infinatly make mario jump into the air and it isn't a great experience. WIth 40 outfits to buy everyone will sure to give anyone a outfit they like. All in all other than the plot (which does have some diiferences) and the poor pro controler play this game is a masterpeice and should be played, the game is 30 hours of fun. This game is huge, not in a matter of open-world (levels are rather small), but in terms of content and playability. I have no idea how many hours you have to spend to fully interact with many aspects and collect all the moons.
Gameplay and controls are simple yet sometimes it's tricky to get to some hidden places, and that's cool, how it should be.
Mechanics seem endless but they are limited by the certain amount of objects/NPCs you can control.
The story itself is original, shares a whole lot about Mario's world! The game is perfectly made for fans.
Visuals... well that's just Mario. It's not a matter of smooth visuals but it's so colorful and juicy, I loved it.
Sounds and music. Sound design is on a high level. Music is so diverse, I enjoyed lots of level themes.

While it was difficult to imagine how Nintendo could top previous 3D Mario adventures, Super Mario Odyssey is nigh-on perfect in almost every way. With the help of Cappy, Mario has never been as fun to control, reaching new heights and, in the hands of a skilled player, accomplishing impossible skips.
