    I don't give out perfect scores really that often because I feel so few... anything can live up to that hype that's created in your head. With that said though, Super Mario Odyssey is such a fun, imaginative and just downright good time. Every time I think Nintendo's out of ideas for this character, they shock me with a title like this.     Mario Odyssey is a cheap, soulless mobile game that can be finished in a weekend. There isn't much to explore. Mechanics are dull and the game hardly provides any challenge at all. The Kingdoms are only few, small sized and empty. They aren't interesting, funny, our colorful but instead uninspired, moody (very wannabe edgy) and just depressing.     My only real complaint is that the worlds aren’t longer and I wish Yoshi was in the game more but even then this game is so much fun I love it!

    Nach Super Mario World und der Nostalgie, die ich mich diesem Spiel verbinde, hätte ich nie gedacht, dass ich noch mal so von einem Mario Spiel umgehauen werde. Odyssey war einfach ein grandioses Spiel mit unglaublich guter Steuerung als Jump n Run. Ich hoffe so sehr, dass ein zweiter Teil kommt! Dieses Spiel hat es definitiv verdient (und ich bin kein Fan von ewigen Sequels)

I have no nostalgia for Mario, so I was hoping this game would be what made me see what all the Nintendo fanboys saw, the way that BotW made me accept that Zelda could be interesting, but to me, it's just a typical platformer. I get that they hardly make platformers anymore, but that's because a game about jumping challenges just doesn't capture the marketsYeah, it's cute I guess. And easily has the best levels, level themes, graphics, collectables, and physics of any Mario game. This game brings me immense joy no matter how many times i play it. I just wish it was longer. If thats the higgest criticism you can muster against a game, we've entered masterpiece territory. I can say it enough how you should play this game.… Expand

Every level is beautifully designed, controls are fantastic and super responsive and it is a game that is so much fun to play! It is also a very large game! The walls were you play as a 2d old style Mario are also a fantastic addition. Buy this game! It isA masterpiece. It doesnt take too much time to see that the developers have put a lot of love and creativity into this fantastic game.     Mario Odyssey is by far one of the most creative and best games of the 3d Mario games, maybe even the best mario game. The amount of work put in the game is huge, the graphics are realistic for a Mario game. The only downside is how fast I played it, wanting more. Overall great game, waiting for a sequel.

In fact, it’s better then 64 and Sunshine and Galaxy and all 3D Marios. Why? How?

    The plot is the same; Bowser kidnapped Peach. It’s never said why he does this, but now he wants to marry her. So, he pulls out all the stops. Mario tries to finish it quick, but Bowser destroys him and sends him flying to a place called Bonneton. He then meets a Bonneteer named Cappy who’s sister was taken by Bowser and placed on Peach’s head. Wow. I did not expect a decent story.

    The gameplay is that Mario is in a big world which he needs to explore and get Power Moons. Power Moons are used to power up his ship and fly to the next area. If you remember 64 or Sunshine, the stars and shines are more mission based, but you can find these moons anywhere, making the world seem bigger. I like this more because there are all these little nooks and crannies in every kingdom, and you get a nice reward for finding them. To find some, you need to “capture” an enemy. To do this you have to throw Cappy on their head. Then, you posses them and can play as them. This seems weird on the surface, but it’s actually a lot of fun to be a Cheep cheep of Hammer bro and see what it’s like for them.

    Super Mario Odyssey looks great while running at 60 fps. You can see every hair on Mario and all the scratches on the Chain Chomps. I don’t really have a complaint with the presentation. The locations are very creative and reflect on the presentation nicely. Take Toastarena. Sure, it’s a basic desert, but instead of being Egypt themed, it’s Mexico themed. As a person who lives in a desert very similar to it, I have to say they did it justice. There are also 2 vocalized songs which both sound very good.

    Odyssey is short. About 10 hours. It’s also a bit easy. But all the content comes from 100% the game. People who don’t like it didn’t play the post-game. In fact, 100% the game will take 70 hours. Wow. You don’t get a game like that often. After you 100% it however, the only thing you can do is play Balloon World. Balloon world is not a reason to go back.

    A lot of people demote it saying that there’s no reason to play it now, and I kind of agree. But if you haven’t played it before, definitely do. It’s the 6th bestselling Switch game for a reason. It was so good that I, and many others, have it a standing ovation when completed. 2017 was a good year thanks to this stellar game.    … Expand

This is probably the most fun game to just move your character and play around, since his moveset is full, although some locked behind some questionable motion implementation. So why don't I give it a 10? Well, you see, I've gotten all 999 moons in this game, and although most of them are fun to collect, some missions repeat themselves so much to the point where around half of them are filler that impacts the fun a bit. Only a bit, though, since if you look past 3 kingdoms where all you do is beat someone up, and filler quest, you've got a true odyssey you're about to experience!… Expand

The movement feels good, and the controls for the captures are usually easy to memorize and master. The story is a basic Mario game and nothing you wouldn’t expect. My only real problems are that you can’t see which kingdom tokens you haven’t picked up.     It’s been four to five years ever since I’ve bought super Mario odyssey, and I can safely say it’s one of my top recommendations for Nintendo switch. Everything about it just screams what Mario should be. I rarely ever had a bad moment playing this game. It somehow fits along the lines and pure blissful fun and some challenges. Although I do have to say, the games a little too easy toIt’s been four to five years ever since I’ve bought super Mario odyssey, and I can safely say it’s one of my top recommendations for Nintendo switch. Everything about it just screams what Mario should be. I rarely ever had a bad moment playing this game. It somehow fits along the lines and pure blissful fun and some challenges. Although I do have to say, the games a little too easy to complete (unless you’ve 100’d it). But I still very much like the new direction of Mario this game seems to have.     - Heavy amounts of re-playability
    - Fluidity of movement leads players to attempting speedrun strategies, and allows players to do complicated maneuvers to find moons easier

    Cons :
    - The gameplay choice is discutable : you can finish the game quickly, finding only half of the available stars. Doing that, you go without half of the fun of this game
    - Music is often discreete, except in some levels (New Donk City, again)

    Some of the best Mario gaming in existence. The gameplay mechanics are flawless and the world is believable, beautiful, and hilarious. There's something for everyone here. Lots to explore and discover too. The only weakness may be its lackluster story, which is more than made up for with its smooth buttery gameplay.

    Best game ever. Literally everything about this game managed to blow me away, down from the captures, to the ending, and even the graphics and soundtrack. Everything here just feels so good and truly made me feel like I was at home. And dare I say that this is way better than even the otherwise incredible Super Mario 64 as well

This can be compared with the invention of Tanooki Mario inThis is definitely the most enjoyable, and maybe the best Super Mario game I' ve ever played. It can be said that the new ability of Mario's hat (as an offensive throwing weapon, as a platform for jump up, and especially as a tool for fusion with dozens of things and creatures) is a revolution in the game-play of this franchise. This can be compared with the invention of Tanooki Mario in Super Mario Bros 3 or of Yoshi in Super Mario World, two of the greatest video games ever made. In addition, there are still many things to explore even after you saving princess Peach. Every Kingdom is designed with unique characteristics, creatures, and special theme. Metro Kingdom is my most favorite world, but other kingdoms (Seaside, Snow, Wooded...) are also nearly perfect.… Expand

    The best platformer i ever played. Every kingdom uses whit charm, the game looks gorgeous, and thheres so many movement mechanics, most of them not needed to complete the game, but to make the gameplay much more fun.

    Odyssey is one of my favorite Mario games. I love the different worlds, and the cap mechanics are a lot of fun.
    Some areas towards the end can be a bit frustrating, but that's what makes a good Mario game.

    This game definitely isn't a Masterpiece, it isn't even better than 64, actually it barely manages to be better than Sunshine, why? Let me explain: for starters, the game presents itself as a spiritual succesor to 64 and Sunshine but it actually resembles more the Galaxy games (in a bad way), because it's main mission moons function almost always the same as a mission in Galaxy (and evenThis game definitely isn't a Masterpiece, it isn't even better than 64, actually it barely manages to be better than Sunshine, why? Let me explain: for starters, the game presents itself as a spiritual succesor to 64 and Sunshine but it actually resembles more the Galaxy games (in a bad way), because it's main mission moons function almost always the same as a mission in Galaxy (and even the level design is basic at the level of a world in that game but lacking its difficulty) + you can grab some other moons on the way (that resemble the blue coins from Sunshine A LOT), and guess what, you get moons here for everything, a moon that is just floating in a random place that's incredibly easy to reach is worth the same as a main mission moon or a challenge moon (and even those aren't really challenging), and that just makes getting them rather a hassle than a satisfactory reward, so, if you go completely straight forward and ignore all these moons that aren't really worth your time, the game would be one of the shortest of all, to the point that it's got some of the shortest worlds out of all 3D Mario games (also most of it's worlds actually resemble a level from galaxy more than a world from 64, since almost all are just a series of platforms and/or get from point A to point B). But if instead you decide for some reason to 100% complete it, then you're in for an unsatisfactory LONG game with tons of trash moons and wasted potential, because odyssey actually succeeds in some things like:
    -Movement, Mario's moveset in this game is by far the best ever seen, but that's just even more frustrating because the game never elaborates on this or gives you more than 2/3 challenges that actually take some skill (2/3 out of 820 moons!!).
    -The soundtrack is really good.
    -It's got some fun little details like the fact you can dress Mario in many ways and personalize the odyssey.
    -And of course it looks nice graphically.
    But other than that, with all of it's flawed content, this game is an amalgamation of ideas that never elaborate enough on themselves and at the end you only get a "tutorial version" of them, as i said, lots of wasted potential.
    But well, at the end the game itself isn't awful even with all those flaws, it just feels like a lackluster and doesn't live up to past 3D Mario games, i hope the developers acknowledge all these flaws for the second game or whatever, because at it's best this game is kind of a seven or eight, although i'm gonna give it a six cause its score is highly inflated by probably kids that are experiencing their first open world game or weird adults that are too blinded by nostalgia.
    If this is your first 3D Mario game or your first open world game experience i recommend you to try other games to see what i mean.    … Expand

    Mario Odyssey is a fun, uplifting game. It is especially fun when you have a kid to play it with (my nephew was around 7 at the time we played it). It’s a good looking game that plays well. Players can “get good” with using the hat to help Mario leap and bound through the worlds.

    It’s not really a game I’ve enjoyed playing by myself though. And I’m not big on hunting for all the moons,    Mario Odyssey is a fun, uplifting game. It is especially fun when you have a kid to play it with (my nephew was around 7 at the time we played it). It’s a good looking game that plays well. Players can “get good” with using the hat to help Mario leap and bound through the worlds.

    It’s not really a game I’ve enjoyed playing by myself though. And I’m not big on hunting for all the moons, so I’ve found myself playing other games. I beat the game with my nephew and we played for a while after it was beaten, but once you move on, there’s not much reason to come back. Lots of people love the game though, and the praise they shower it with is earned. To me, it just isn’t fun without a kid enjoying it with you.

    If you’re a Mario fan, this is the Mario game to get on the Switch. If you’re looking for a game to play with a young kid, then I honestly can’t think of a better game than this one to do just that.    … Expand

    The controls are almost perfect, the levels are amazing, and there is so much creativity. All of this combined makes Mario odyssey the best Mario experience since Galaxy.

    Leider ist bei mit der Charme der Mario Spiele verflogen. Die Plattforming Passagen, die Story, die Sammel Orgien, irgendwie hat das alles vor 25 Jahren deutlich mehr Spaß gemacht. Mit dem Kauf einer Nintendo Konsole nach zig Jahren dachte ich, dass mir diese Spiele erneut sehr viel Spaß bringen.

    I am pretty sure this is my all-time favorite Mario game. It is up there with Super Mario World and Super Mario 64. This game is just pure joy to play.

    I still do not understand the review's scores. It is very short with very little ambition, and it is way too easy. Finished the main story in about 8 hours with a little more than 250 moons, not a bad game, but it looked like just a demo of Super Mario Galaxy...

    I think this game turned me into a kid again.

    I love this game. It is easily the best Mario and maybe the best platformer of all time. This game is a masterpiece without rival.

    I find this as a game that is filled with seemingly endless fun with so many cool characters and the customizability is something I always desire in a game the story of the game is something to be admired and the familiarity with this sort of game makes it part of the fun and some may think it Is easy i believe it had the perfect balance between fun and challenge.

    This game is really good. The soundtrack is amazing! Though, after completing the game, I do not feel like playing it anymore, and that is why it only gets 7/10. The difficulty is balanced even for Nintendo Switch newcomers and this was my first game I played on a Switch.

    If you want to just casually play the game, I think it is a fine 10-13 hour long experience. If you are going for    This game is really good. The soundtrack is amazing!     If you want to just casually play the game, I think it is a fine 10-13 hour long experience. If you are going for collecting 100% of the power moons, I think it is something around 25 hours. I really want to collect all of them, but simply there is no point for doing it. Most of the power moons are simply lying around in the open, which makes them easy to find, but absolutely not rewarding at all. Take Cat Shines in Bowser's Fury for example. They are always locked away behind some kind of a challenge (such as riding Plessie, chasing down a rabbit, chasing shadow Luigi, general platforming on islands...), they are challenging to get and feel rewarding. In Super Mario Odyssey, that is no longer the case.

    The other thing about Power Moons is that there are way, way too many. That amount is absolutely unnecessary, and could have been lowered by 250 at least. Most of the moons are in the open anyway. There are around 850 unique moons to collect around the kingdoms, but the rest is locked away, because you have to buy the remaining 149 moons from shops for coins. Not only that it is an extremely lame decision, but you can buy the moons indefinitely, allowing you to reach the 999 goal (100%) with not much effort. Just buy tons of Moons. And if someone does so, you are not going to feel like collecting actual moons anymore, because you simply have the golden Odyssey sail, no point in doing it. Not mentioning that some of them make absolutely no sense. Why would some idiot even make a parking lot for motorbikes on a roof with only one single spot and even give you something for parking there? How did they expect citizen to regularly reach there!

    Nintendo's idea about purple coins is absolutely ridiculous. There is no way to find every purple coin in the game without looking for them, there is no way to buy a hint like for Power Moons. Now you might be thinking, that they are around Power Moons to find. Well, yeah, good point, but not really the greatest. There is always a chance that someone may miss some while going for the moons, either because they just want to play the game or miss them by accident. If that happens, what are you going to do? Do all moons again to traverse most of the kingdom one more time only to miss them again, or look them up on YouTube? All collectibles in all games which force the player to look them up on YouTube are bad collectibles, and purple coins cannot save themselves from being crap, that is how Nintendo created them.

    I really like that you can dress up Mario in some costumes, most of them look really really good. Some of the outfits grant you access to specific areas through the game and certain characters have some reactions when talking to them with a specific outfit. Most of them are really expensive, though, especially those ones unlocked later on (prices go up to 9999 coins for one item!!!), and they are absolutely unnecessary. Could have been lowered to 75% price.

    A big plus is that the game has lots of post-game content. If you completed the game on 100%, you still can kill some time playing Luigi's Balloon World, which is fun, if you don't encounter hackers, but that's a story for another time.

    Tanks are an absolutely ass capture. No, seriously. When playing while capturing a tank, you will feel that it is really off. They are so slow and aiming is painful as hell. The crosshair moves at different speeds on Y and X axis, meaning it is really hard to aim (and obviously, you cannot change it!)

    Also a good thing to ask, why do the characters behave like absolute idiots? I understand that it is a game for kids, but keep in mind that adults and teens play as well. Some of the characters say absolute trash and feel like they have vacuum in their brain. They also made Pauline a gold digger (she does not like cheap nice umbrellas, but likes expensive purses instead LOL).

    The very last two post game kingdoms are not kingdoms and have no reason to exist in the first place. They are not kingdoms, but doors to challenge rooms (one to a boss rush and the second one to a super long and tight section with no checkpoints). They just randomly added couple Moons to one of them to make them seem less empty and left them to rot there, but that did not help. They should have been in the last kingdom of the main story and just opened up after you reached all requirements to access them. With one being significantly emptier than the other, there are more almost completely blank kingdoms around the game. What a wasted opportunities they were, what a pity. Story moment, then random Moons and then bye.

    This game is great. The gameplay is fun and engaging, and there are enough collectibles for you to keep coming back for a while. And the kingdoms are so creative! It is truly a one-of-a-kind Mario experience.

    My favourite game. I just love it and I don't see myself getting sick of it. 100%'d it twice and you know what? I'd do it again! Love everything about Mario Odyssey and I cannot see anything I don't like with this game

    A fantastic game, one of my favorites.
    It has nice graphics and a very good and detailed overworld. The Boss fights are very nice(my Favorite one is the Dragon)
    The Final Bowser fight is a Little Bit lame for the Final Boss. Overall a masterpiece

    Absolutely amazing! Each kingdom feels different from each other. I like how this game encourages exploration to find all of the moons in the kingdom. Cappy is great and the capture mechanic works flawlessly. Its amazing how many great ideas they were able to come up with in the game. This is probably the second best Mario game in general. Incredible!!

And yet this is the greatest platformer I've ever played - super-precise controls, extraordinary sound design, joyful and vivid graphics, simple but funny storyline, and such a memorable world. Cannot think ofI bought Switch specifically for this moustached title and it was worth all the money spent. In my case, all previous Mario titles after Super Mario Bros. were successfully skipped.     I´ve been a Mario fan since its inception in the early 80s and loved most of the mainline games, huge fan of the first 3 super mario games for the nes, loved the snes one and yoshi´s island and certainly felt mario64 was a masterpiece. Ok I say all that so you know I know my mario and feel SAD to give this one such a low score, which I´m feeling actually generous because this game was the epitome of BOREDOM, levels practically have no platforming or reason to be all the game is just hunting those moons which more than half are a chore to get without any real skill, is like if in zelda breath of the wild, all you did in the damn game was getting the korok seeds, yes, is that boring, I can´t believe people gave this game 9s and 10s is really mediocre, the 6 points I give are just for the visuals, music and all the neat little ideas that weren´t really exploided well, otherwise I would give it a 10 like MOST Marios out there, really dissappointed of this.… Expand

    Super marion odyssey es un juego solido de plataformas de mario, con una gran jugabilidad, capy es de las cosas mas originales y interesantes que creo la franquicia y es aprobechada al 100%. Cada parte del juego esta llena de personalidad y es como sentirte como un niño pequeño explorar cada parte del mapa pero... Si hay demasiadas lunas, muchas y la verdadera dificultad viene en eln post-game

    While it was difficult to imagine how Nintendo could top previous 3D Mario adventures, Super Mario Odyssey is nigh-on perfect in almost every way. With the help of Cappy, Mario has never been as fun to control, reaching new heights and, in the hands of a skilled player, accomplishing impossible skips. You need only pick up a controller to see why this is the best modern Mario game ever.

    The best entry to the best platforming series is so ridiculously huge it’s like a theme park made of theme parks. It’s a wonderful tribute to Super Mario 64, but it’s not a lazy homage. Super Mario Odyssey draws inspiration from the superb classic to top it and everything that came after it. [13/2017, p.38]
