    Sonic just works in this new formula. He's never felt faster and the mature, serious tone of the story works wonders in rejuvenating the franchise for fans of the earlier 3d adventure titles. The voice acting does have the odd delivery here and there but more frequently it is treated with a gentle and careful tone, leaving behind the goofier over-exaggeration for a more nuance and egotismSonic just works in this new formula. He's never felt faster and the mature, serious tone of the story works wonders in rejuvenating the franchise for fans of the earlier 3d adventure titles. The voice acting does have the odd delivery here and there but more frequently it is treated with a gentle and careful tone, leaving behind the goofier over-exaggeration for a more nuance and egotism delivery, this from every character. The music is particularly superlative in this entry: while the cyberspace boost/2d levels are energetic and exciting, the overworld music on each island is a delight that never wears out its welcome. The highlight which demands attention is the super sonic boss themes. These are consistently heavy and exciting modern djent/metal tunes and they capture the hype of the series staple final boss battle tracks, minus the usual cheesiness. My only gripes with this game are fairly minor ones- the pop-in is pretty noticeable at high speeds, but it's never an issue as you can still see things well in advance no matter how fast you're going. Also newcomer Sage is an interesting and engaging character and adds a brand new depth to Eggman that we've never seen before, but she isn't given the time to properly develop and events ar the very end of the game are paced so poorly that writer Ian Flynn forgets to give the cast a proper send-off and acknowledge the impact of this new character. The ending feels very rushed and I wish it was given more room to breathe, as while my platinum 100% playtime was a relatively short 25 hours total, I was able to connect with this new character and enjoy(for the most part) the returning cast but feel they did not receive a properly thought out resolution. All told, Sonic Frontiers is the perfect package to reignite the interest of gamers in this languishing gaming franchise. 9/10. Adjusted to 10 to fight bombing post-dunkey retards… Expand

    The popin is terrible, the graphics look like a roblox game, and the voiceacting and story was below my low expectations. This game has founded a cult following which baffles me to this day.

    Game is deffo going in the right direction, a bit more Polish and slightly better pacing with the story could make this a masterpiece. Pre rendered cutscenes are missed and I would love for the cyber space levels (which are dull reused levels and feel awful to control) to be more like sonic adventure stages as at the moment they’re awful. Basically use the open stages and then make sonic adventure stages to go in between them and it would be great. This quick review is more just to state what needs to improve to be a 10, if day it’s actually more of an 8 right now. Ps pls bring back a chao garden next time haha.… Expand

    Sonic Frontiers is the most ambitious and creative Sonic game to date. The game thrives on Ian Flynn's writing direction that paints the most expressive characters we've seen in so long. The new combat system, while more flashy than practical, has definitely earned a place in future Sonic games and I hope they continue to use and build it. The story has a playful cheesiness to it thatSonic Frontiers is the most ambitious and creative Sonic game to date.     More than anything, Frontiers has changed the playing field for Sonic the Hedgehog. The Sonic Team clearly put so much love and attention into creating a new experience for Sonic fans, and this game is nothing short of a love letter to the fanbase.     It's the most unrepentantly Sonic game we've had in nearly two decades, and if that doesn't sound like a compliment to you, then you're not who this series is for and no amount of appeasement for the likes of you will be satisfactory (as, clearly, 10 years of it have proven not to be enough), and what this game means to me is that SEGA is finally beginning to understand that.     Safe to say, the story is poorly presented and BORING, while the bosses were very hit or miss. The game suffers from a massive lack of cohesion. Nothing feels naturally integrated in the world, only a handful of bosses genuinely impressed me, and yet for some reason they decided to completely butcher the final boss.

    I think I could say that it was a reasonable to expect like, 5 different open zone themes, and 10 cyberspace themes across 30 levels. What we got was pathetic however, 5 open zones with 3 sharing the same grassy plains theme, and merely 4 cyberspace themes, with most levels being **** green hill.

    I would have stomached all of this if the controls were good, but it's complete ass imo. The pop in and jank also add to my frustration.

    I genuinely wanted to like this game, but 5 years from forces and what we get is a mediocre product that has the potential to be good? No thank you, I'm not giving sonic team slack for this entry, and it's astounding that this game is praised by a masterpiece by sonic fans. They can like what they like but if this is considered peak sonic, then this franchise is in trouble.    … Expand

    As a long time sonic fan, sonic frontiers has disappointed me. I think ian flynns story was overhyped and not much happened. Sonic & Knuckles characterization was great! Tails was cool too, but maybe too on the nose with the writing. And amy...is fine but a little boring. I miss her Sonic X days. She had a lot more personality when Lisa Ortiz was voicing her.     This trully is a great game. The music, how sonic's control's are fluid, the story and much more. Theres some janky stuff here and there but it doesnt negate how this was a wonderful experience. Hope sonic team continues to get this formula greater and greater with the next games

    One of the best Sonic games to release in the entire run of the franchise. Fun world and levels, excellent controls, great visuals, along with a good story and fantastic character writing. Sonic is back and this game makes me excited for his future.

    Sonic frontiers has flaws, but it’s still a great game. Running around the open areas, especially with maxed out rings or speed is very fun and rolling down a hill gives you a TON of speed.
    The plot is just okay but it’s very refreshing from the pretty bad stories of colors, gens, lost world, and forces. Though there are some problems, there’s a ton of pop-in and the puzzles are WAY too    Sonic frontiers has flaws, but it’s still a great game. Sir, you're doing the same thing that review bombers are doing. LYING TO YOURSELF AND THE PUBLIC. Story is like an 8 but the storytelling is a 6. It doesn't try to do too much with the scope, but in that scope it doesn't do it well enough with disjointed storytelling. Dialogue writing is like an 8, voice acting...Sonic is like an 8.5 but everyone else is like a 7. Sage would be better but the whole idea is to be monotone and I believe that doesn't deserve anything more than a 7 on principle alone. Sonic doing something new is an 8 but the same old jank that has plagued 3D Sonic since its inception is a 6. Music is a solid 8.5. Enemy and boss graphic design is an 8 but their actual combat execution is a 6.5. Why does the 3rd island suddenly change up how every single open zone puzzle switches to 2.5D? It was fine, should have had a healthy balance throughout the whole game instead of just shoving them in this one jarring stage. Why does the game require you to climb a wall instead of running up it for the first time when you're 3 minutes into climbing an objective tower and 75% though the game? Repeating the SAME EXACT formula for each of the four main open zones is not 10 out of 10 gameplay. Its a 6, but ill give the overall gameplay design a 7.5 because their is just an absolute insane amount of rails to grind and springs to bounce on. Don't get me wrong, Sonic Frontiers on surface interaction level is a fun experience. As a whole game package is stumbles on its final execution and lacks the polish of anything worthy of earning over a 7. Aiming means nothing in fishing; 7. Just like Pokemon Legends: Arceus, this game is a semi-rushed and a not fully realized concept game. I am ok with that. Call it what it is, a valiant attempt at trying something new.
    Put more time in the oven an some polish, maybe an actual final boss and call me back in a couple years. Anyone who gives this game a 10 but complains about how other review outlets are lying to you about what it actually deserves needs to take a long hard look in the mirror and probably talk to a therapist about how to become a critical free-thinking individual.
    This should be more a review of the Sonic fanbase than of Sonic Frontiers. Anyway, the game took me about 20 hours to earn all the achievements and complete the game. Included in that time: At least twice waiting 7ish minutes to do a night time objective to uncover my map because there is no way to change time of day. It also includes roughly FOURTY MINUTES total time to upgrade all 198 points into Speed and Ring Capacity because you can only do one point at a time and the whole process takes like 12 seconds for 1 point increase. Did someone playtest that part? Surely 10/10 quality.
    I think what you see I'm getting at is a lot of these things that are going into this game are great. If it could just execute and stick the landing it could be an 8.5 game. A lot of the gameplay issues that show up are the same issues for the past 2 decades in 3D Sonic. Focus on fixing that core gameplay problem then you can candy coat it. 6.8/10 I can't put 6.8 as a rating. Again this is a 6.8. Think for yourself judge for yourself in everything you do.    … Expand

    The game lacks polish in several areas. Also, the 2d sections are very bad, quite terrible to control. However, the rest of the game is incredibly fun, and is by far my favorite 3D sonic game.

With the overused of automation, rehashing Generations stages, Linear boost levels, the islands being all the same and not taking advantage of its scenery. Come on, a desert island should have some type of quicksand and desert theme gimmicks. NotThis game has potential to be amazing and the best Sonic game but the things that hold 2010s Sonic games back are still present in Frontiers.     Sonic Frontiers might not be perfect but it sure does feel perfect with improvements all around. The pop in can be a problem and I hope it gets fix and the reuse of the first Island with a bigger budget for the sequel. Thank you Sonic Team for reminding me why I love Sonic and friends

    Sonic Frontiers is a bold attempt to redefine what a Sonic game is, and honestly it works. The gameplay loop is super fun and this is honestly the best Sonic has ever controlled in a while. The story is a refresher compared to the past decade of light hearted and corny writing.     This is a great Beta for a future game. It has A LOT of great aspects that are pretty much all implemented haphazardly, but could be downright awesome with enough thought and planning. They clearly spent all of their programming time getting the open world movement/controls down but just ran out of time to make the world(s) actually feel real. I'm a lifelong Sonic fan, so this was a decentThis is a great Beta for a future game. It has A LOT of great aspects that are pretty much all implemented haphazardly, but could be downright awesome with enough thought and planning. They clearly spent all of their programming time getting the open world movement/controls down but just ran out of time to make the world(s) actually feel real. I appreciated the callbacks, references, and cheeky nods scattered throughout that you'll only pickup if you've actually played nearly all of the other Sonic games out there. The story could be amazing (the dialogue between characters is incredible), the presentation could've been breathtaking, the ending could've been so epic, settings varied, etc etc.. in the end it feels like the game just needed more time. Despite the flaws, I still very much enjoyed my time with Sonic Frontiers... TheI think a lot of the elements in this game are great in premise.     This game isn't for everyone. There is a lot of people that are a fan of Sonic's games on the Genesis. There are those that are a fan of his games from Sonic Colors onwards. Me personally, I grew up on Sonic Adventure - Sonic '06. As much as some of these have problems, I love them. They have fun stories, characters, and gameplay. Lately I felt like the series had lost its identity.This game isn't for everyone. There is a lot of people that are a fan of Sonic's games on the Genesis. There are those that are a fan of his games from Sonic Colors onwards. Me personally, I grew up on Sonic Adventure - Sonic '06. As much as some of these have problems, I love them. They have fun stories, characters, and gameplay. Lately I felt like the series had lost its identity. Characters didn't have arcs anymore. Gameplay was being reused and wasn't experimenting anymore. The stories felt like parodies rather than moving the series forward. I started to rely on the comics to give me the story. It was the closest to what I wanted from Sonic. Ian Flynn wrote the comics and he wrote this. The story and characters feel so much more with what I grew up with and love. The gameplay is back to experimenting. It's back to the Sonic that I love. I'll rate it a 10/10 because it restored my love for Sonic after I was moments away from seemingly giving up on the series. Sonic Team, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for this game.… Expand

    The story is really good as well. Ian Flynn definitely delivered on the writing and the direction for the voice cast was spot on along with their performances. Soundtrack even for a Sonic game this OST stands out, fr the ambient sounds of the islands during exploration, to the various styles of high bpm breakbeat, edm and techno in cyberspace levels, to the absolute BANGER boss themes. The FRONTIERS OST is among the best in ther series and that's saying a lot, considering there are virtually no misses when it comes to music in this franchise.

    After 100%ing Sonic Frontiers twice, I can confidently say that the series is putting it’s best foot forward and turning over a new leaf, in order to usher in a new era for Sonic, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing what the Blue Blur has in store for us next.

    Sonic Frontiers is much more packed than other recent Sonic games, with lots to do and comprehensive open zones. The boss fights far exceed most I’ve seen in platformers before. Definitely worth a buy if you’re remotely interested.

    Really Eh. Like REALLY REALLY Eh. It's janky and I didn't care much for the story. Maybe if you're a diehard sonic fan you'll like it, but for a game to be good, it needs to appeal to a wide audience. I've only ever played Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Mania, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and around half of Sonic Forces, and it just didn't click for me.

Doing different combos to see how fast you can defeat an enemy, performing tricks after launching yourself off of the terrain with boost, completing cyberspace levels as fast as possible, it's all really fun. The Boss Fights are actually insane and are one of the best fights in the entire series. Each one has a unique vocal song and you use what you learn from the island to beat them. They all have a theme.

    Cyberspace is definitely a weak part of the game but it's still fun, the levels at the start are very weak but once you get to the second or third island they pick up in quality. Like really, they go from reusing level layouts to being full on original, throwing in new mechanics like drifting and skateboarding segments. My favorite cyberspace levels are definitely the ones from the final island.

    Story Wise (No Spoilers) is good. There's a lot of mystery and it's really fun to explore and try piecing everything together. Sage is a very interesting character, Sonic is no longer one dimensional and has his practices and morals challenged, and believe it or not, this game has character development for the entire cast! I won't lie there were parts of the story that felt like they were doing damage control for the past 10 years, but they managed to make it work for the story. There are no longer 2 planets, there is no longer a classic and modern time line, and humans exist outside of just Robotnik. This game is better experienced blind.

    This game definitely is receiving some harsh ratings from critics outside of steam, which is as expected but you should go in and make your own opinion, and if you like it please leave a review. It is important for this franchise to receive as much positive feedback as possible since it is gaming's punching bag, but also be honest.     It has it's problems like all games but it's Characters and Writing is finally something that is Sonic, the gameplay is super fun and Open Zone lets you feel you play on a big Zone and also finally feel you are Sonic. The bosses are super raw and easily some of the best in the franchise. Music is also super great. Bug potential for the future

Its rough around the edges in many areas, constantly reusing Green Hill Zone and Chemical Plant, and the narrative while good, couldve been a bit more involving. Overall though, I walked away being content that I was finally given the type of game I waited 14 years for.

    Frontiers is an excellent foundation for future Sonic Games, Some may even say it's better than games like SA1 and SA2. While it's rough around the edges, the Pros easily outway the Cons making Sonic Frontiers probably the best 3D Sonic Game to Date

    First of all, not only does this game feel soulless, but it also tarnishes the name of Sonic the Hedgehog entirely. Every single release of a sonic game has an extravagant world with a free landscape of performing whatever you see fit, but this game completely DENIES that reality through the CONSTANT STORY GATING of this game. The developers wanted us to believe that this was a game where you could freely roam around without any setbacks, but the mediocre story and the hundreds of thousands of millions of invisible walls stopped that from happening.

    The story is terrible, mediocre and laughable bad. It constantly relies on thoughtless Deus ex machina and plot-holes that leave you thinking of 'Why the hell did I just waste my time on this'. Nothing in this game makes you want to play more, it's all an endless spiral of garbage plot-holes that plague this terrible game. None of the characters have meaning to themselves nor any conflict, they're all just 'yes men' to Sonic. I understand the game wants to provide the spotlight to the main character, but at a certain point it just feels like an echo-chamber that Sonic is in.

    The bosses in this game are appallingly and painfully bad it's hilarious. Constant glitching through limbs of the bosses to being flung out of the map. The bosses are incredibly bland and require minimal skill to beat. It's all button mashing GARBAGE that the game provides, there is NO REASON to use any buttons other than 'attack' because that's all you need in this game. This terrible mess of a Sonic game felt like it was made for children.

    Last of all, the controls AND the traversal through the map feels TERRIBLE! I, as an avid gamer throughout several generations have not ever seen something so rushed as this. The movement is incredibly janky and stiff, there are CONSTANT holes and areas that you can glitch into and get stuck, I even managed to glitch out of the starting invisible walls, therefore I had to restart the game, because the braindead developers didn't even THINK of adding a function to 'unstuck' yourself.

    Last of all, the game is terribly optimized. On the Series X it is capped at 30fps. Why should gamers be subject to abhorrent performance with a TRIPLE-A GAME IN 2022!? This game is a completely rushed pile of trash that the Sonic team wasted their time on.

    People should have KNOWN from the moment they saw that god awful teaser that the game would have been as soulless and dull as it is.

    I will no longer be supporting any modern Sonic title anymore. I am NO LONGER a Sonic fan. This game has disappointed me and is a waste of mine and everyone's time.     A great step in right direct for blue blur. Surprisingly engaging story coupled with amazing vocal tracks makes it truly a fun experience. Can't wait to see what Sonic Team has in store for us in their next game.

It has a great story, fun open zones with lots to do, Cyberspace while very flawed is still fun imo, fantastic combat, and it has the best boss battles in the series. Sad people will still go out of their way to hate and meme on the blue blur but that was bound to happen regardless of this games quality.

    While not perfect, like the platforming challenges not being natural in the Open Zones, or no ability to play the Titans fights again, Frontiers is an exciting step forward, and more than solid foundation for the future. 2022 has been kind to Sonic, and Frontiers helps push the narrative that, yes, Sonic is back.

    If I was to give this a fair score, it would be around a 8/10. But as someone who has grown with this series, the call-backs, evolution and more found in Frontiers, it reaches a 9. I just hope that Sonic Team AND SEGA give the next instalment the time it needs to be polished and refined into what should be another great game. There is a bit of jankyness with the camera and controls sometimes which can be polished overtime, as well as cleaning up some performance issues such as the pop-in that occurs. Everything looks GREAT, the chemistry and emotions between the characters, especially between Sonic and Knuckles, the island boss fights are GREAT. But why not 10? On the 3rd island, I get bored with 2D sections, which make up 60 percent of the entire island. And... in cyberspace, too, there is a thing. The levels aren't all that interesting considering that... THEY ARE RIPPED FROM THE PAST GAMES! It's annoying. In general, I liked the game, but there is a fly in the ointment in this barrel of honey.… Expand

    Although there are quite a few good moments, there are far more where the overwhelming jank begins to show itself. I know as sonic fans we take what we can get but this is really not good enough, and we shouldn't pretend it is.

    Es un juego evolutivo para sentar las bases del futuro de Sonic, es un juego con mundos fantásticos que te da la libertad que en lo personal le hacia falta a Sonic expandiendo su modo combate con una historia llamativa e interesante si eres fan de Sonic es un juego que tienes que jugar si o si y si no eres fan del erizo puedes darle una oportunidad con este juego.

    Unexpected and raw diamond! Never played a Sonic game before. Did not expect a lot from this one. BUT: awesome atmosphere (a bit melancholic) with great music score and lonely feeling worlds (just a bit like the NieR games). Well, the graphics are certainly not current gen (i think not even 60FPS on PS5 and XSX), but gameplay and exploration compensate. A well hidden gem and certainly anyUnexpected and raw diamond!     This is a step in the right direction for the Sonic series. While flawed, it shows potential for something much greater. I'm happy that this game turned out as well as it did.

    This game is really good and funny! Grafic is good, gameplay and battle system is fun and fluid, the control and movement of sonic is fluid and good. Furthermore the music is one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard! The only critic from my site is, the pop in of Plattforms on the screen. Please, give the game a chance, it is actully a really good game!

    Sonic frontiers is an amazing game it is up there with sonic unleashed and sonic adventure 1 and 2 its graphics are amazing its game design is on point and the game play loop doesn't get boring sonic feels amazing and the story is great I highly recommend this game 10/10 from me

    I have played this game for over 18 hours and I have only come out with a single complaint literally to do with a fishing mini game, I find it pointless that you work harder to catch chests with a max of 3 tickets in. I know that these can buy you anything for only 1 ticket but the most expensive thing is 15 tokens so the max equivalent for 3 tickets would be 45 tokens even though you canI have played this game for over 18 hours and I have only come out with a single complaint literally to do with a fishing mini game, I find it pointless that you work harder to catch chests with a max of 3 tickets in.     The idea and vision of the game is absolutely fabulous. In practice, however, the game is brought down by its execution, which you can see through after a short while and then the game has nothing to surprise you with. [Issue#324]

    There is nothing remotely redeeming about this game. Nothing that even the most die-hard loyal Sonic Fans would or should advocate for. I hope that one day someone who cares enough about this franchise could give us something-anything of substance. A fan can hope, can’t they? A fan can hope.

    Finally, after almost 25years of half measures and mostly mediocre titles, Sonic has finally reached the 3D levels of gameplay it needed to reach. Yes, the pop in is absolutely inexcusable and the ancient gatekeeping grindy methods damage the flow of the game for no reason, but a wonderfully built base exists here, with a highly entertaining adventure in wonderfully melancholic world and a surprisingly well founded story, thankfully clean of Sonic’s annoying 3rd tier friends!
