I’m pretty sure this game gave me herpes. I was sitting there, minding my business and once all the micro transactions loaded. There was an intense burning in my nether regions. Went to the Dr’s and was Herpes brought on by malicious and insidious nickel and diming for content that should of been free

As a long-time GT fan, since playing with my Dad back on the Playstation 1, I am shocked at the blatant microtransaction scheme, anemic "career" mode, poor off-road rally physics, lack of standard grid starts in favor of rolling starts in single-player races, and the multitude of design decisions clearly made to extract the most money from your dedicated fans. No you can't just give your players 1 million credits to appease fans without significant changes. Online DRM requirement for single-player career is inexcusable. I regret my digital purchase and wish I had the disc to sell. Can't believe I bought a special GT Fanatec wheel for this. The worst part is that there is clearly a lot of love and effort brought to the cars and the racing overall is fantastic. What a shame. Expand

I finished the menu books last month and I haven't played the game since, with 3 million 'in the bank' I'm nowhere close to buying any of the desirable/legend cars and I dont have invitations to the manufacturers I want. GT Sport, the online focussed title, has a more extensive single player event list than GT7 - think about that. Finally, the FFB is very underwhelming - on the official Fanatec DD Pro - it's weaker than GTS and still has zero road texture details, every other racer does a better job here. Overall I've never felt this strongly or disappointed about a game before - enough to sign up to Metacritic and give it a zero. Expand

Polypony needed to make and release a finished, error free game with races not pursuits to have a hope of walking their users over to the new business model.

In most aspects this game fails to meet its brief and can be used as an example of what not to do with a 25 year old franchise.

This is ruining gaming where a paid game uses free to play mechanics. The publishers are unethical by not revealing micro transaction until after the professional reviews were written. Paid cars are 4x the price as the last game. Also a week after the game launched they nerfed the amount of in game currency you receive from races to make it harder to unlock cars.

THE GOOD: Stunning graphics, lots of detailed cars, interesting tracks, and the ability to tune and customize with parts. "Better" AI and new weather system makes for interesting races too. I bought a PS5 for this game alone (though as it stands I've come to regret that decision for the reasons listed below).

THE BAD: The various characters and JRPG style dialog boxes are a little annoying. I get that they serve a purpose, but I feel like this game lost some of its focus about being about driving, and is giving off Super Mario / Animal Crossing vibes with its global menus and various characters. Minor gripe.

You might say that the AI driving can be a bit "spicy"; drives better than its GT Sport counterpart, which is awesome ... until it's behind you, where occasionally, it may decide to overtake by simply driving through your car. I love the added challenge of an AI that's not a pushover, but routinely getting pit maneuvered should be for cops in Need for Speed, not in GT. Honesty, this is a minor gripe. If you race against people, you learn to forgive this sort of thing, and implementing good AI is hard. I'd love to see this improved, but I don't hold this against anyone.

THE UGLY: The economics irredeemably ruins the game; to the point that I honestly resent both Sony and Polyphony and wish I hadn't purchased this game or the console. I loved GT Sport; (it had its flaws but) it was fun and focused on driving. You needed in-game credits to buy more cars, but that was never the focus of the game, and never impeded my sense of progress or got in the way of my fun. If you enjoyed the game and just played it routinely, you'd get enough credits and gift cars unlocked that you could just focus on the fun part of the game; you know ... the DRIVING part. When I played GT Sport, I had fun and I wanted to get better at driving. GT Sport didn't disproportionately and arbitrarily reward only one type of driving and tell me that I had to be on this particular track, with these particular conditions, and only in this group of car or otherwise take a massive reward penalty.

"Grind Turismo 7" on the other hand offers you roughly 3 races that Polyphony has (finally) graciously seen fit to not massively nerf for payouts ... while every other track and possible race setup remains nerfed and basically pays peanuts in comparison. I can even setup a custom race that mirrors the exact same race conditions, and even double the race duration, and the payout is still a just fraction compared to the few magic races that actually pay out. Why Polyphony? What exactly is the in-game logic to justify this?

This actually matters now, because every car in the game can have several hundred thousand credits worth of custom parts added to it. You certainly don't need to buy every single part for each car, but some of them are kind of important. Want racing and wet tires? That's over a hundred thousand credits for the set, per car.

So Polyphony has introduced this massive credit sink into their game by making cars expensive to customize, while keeping the credit taps practically shut for all but a few arbitrary races. Oh and they've nerfed the daily driving rewards so it's not even a true 1 in 5 draw for a gift car, but a lottery system that's heavily stacked against you in the odds, and half of the time, the prizes are useless custom parts that are specific to a single car (or better yet, "exclusive time-limited invites" to buy multi-million credit cars at full price ... wow don't I feel lucky and privileged). So once you've progressed passed the cafe missions where races actually give you cars as rewards, the game progression slams into a brick wall and gets really grindy. Look on YouTube and see how many people are posting strats on how to make make-believe-money in GT7 ... a game about driving cars. If i wanted to worry about making money, I could just go to work. This game is designed like a micro-transaction driven "free-to-play", except we paid full MSRP for both the console and the game.

@Polyphony no amount of new cars or tracks will distract players from the main issue with this game: a (still) broken in-game economy. 90% of the canned races are under-rewarded, and as it stands now, there's no point in me creating custom races if they're going to reward at 10% the going rate of the pitifully few races you arbitrarily choose to reward properly. Please fix this. Let us enjoy this otherwise awesome game on our own terms.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Somewhat better than GT Sport because there is a dedicated but lacking single player mode. However there should be an option to shut up the annoying NPCs completely. The grinding in the beginning is unnecessary. GT4 was good enough with the licences limiting the available races. It is not necessary to force people to use cars they do not want to drive.
I am sorry for the absence of real endurance races. I hated the short races with tyre and fuel multipliers. They are back but they can not replace real endurance races. Apart from these pieces of **** and the mandatory races there are only 2 races with no multipliers. Daily races also most likely have them. On GT Sport only Daily Race C had them but in this ****load of a game Daily Race B tends to utilize them too. There are also cafe menu races with this **** The licences, missions and circuit experiences are another letdown. They are fairly easy (I had gold on less then the second time on average) but with the switches between different types of cars thanks to the improved handling model is very annoying. At the final test that kink before Blanchimont is a game breaker. Licences in GT4 were hard but fair and now they give us these easy tasks and trolling us in the end. It is also a shame this game can not be played offline.
The microtransactions are just idiotic and the roulette tickets exist only to give you the smallest amount of money 90% of the time and so they can say there is a (1%) chance of "winning" a car.
Also they fix one game breaking bug just to introduce another one with the patch.
Overall the game is gorgeous and the gameplay is somewhat nostalgic. The driving is much better than GT Sport. However the annoying new features, the missing old ones and the bug introducing fixes make this game an unfinished abomination in between GT Sport and a real GT title. I hope future updates will introduce changes that can change my mind but for now GT3 and especially GT4 are way better in my opinion.

Update: version 1.07/08 is even worse. Server was down for more than 30 hours and microtransations are encouraged after nerfing race rewards. And the only thing they do is making excuses. I do not feel motivated to play this game with the constant need to grind for credits.
Update: just found out that online qualifiers do not count as distance driven. What the hell am I doing then? Hundreds of kilometers driven lost from my stats.
Update: version 1.15: Online Time Trials added, but they do not count towards the daily workout (why should they?).
Update: version 1.17: **** barrier collision penalties return

It feels so repetitive and boring because the track designs and the mechanics (playing with a controller) are one of the worst I have ever experienced in racing games. The game is unbalanced in almost every way where microtransactions are not micro but megatransactions. Alot of cars are unobtainable or you have to play 1000 hours and imo this game is not even worth 25 hours of playing. The multiplayer lacks content, is very bad designed and is very boring. Sony should be ashamed that this is an exclusive. Being an exclusive is also the only thing that is unique about this game. I would save your money and skip this one or pick it up when it is like 15 bucks, because imo it is not worth more. I am very very disappointed. Expand

Fun for a day. No freedom to do what you want, and if you do, you're wasting your grind time. Personal: what is with the café **** This is the most out of touch racing game feature I think I’ve ever seen in a game, a café with cars as the menu? Why do the Japanese find the weirdest ways to ruin what used to be good games?

Personal: Is car physics or physics in general understood in japan? Japanese games all seem to lack physics, why is that? MGS lacks physics, the Yakusa games lack physics, Final fantasy games lack physics? Why do Japanese game developers not understand physics? Ghost of Tsushima is probably the best Japanese game of this generation and a key reason is its physics, but it took an American developer with an understanding of physics to make it great without the physics where would it be?
The arrogance of Japanese developers to think they can get away with such a lack of innovation is crazy, as you can see by the user reviews the nostalgia trick has been played out we want innovation not the de-innovation that’s on offer here

At this stage polyphony’s lack of understanding has reached the point they should retire from making games and maybe do a konami getting in to pachinko, to understand such a damming assessment pick up a copy of 2013 Drive Club (Non4K) pause it in game and select the camera, zoom in on the car model, then do the same with GT7 and you will quite literally see just how far behind the curve GT7 really is in both graphics and enjoyable gameplay the comparison is honestly staggering, why on earth Sony chose to plow their money in to the ignorant polyphony over the stunning Evolution Studios is beyond comprehension, a PS4 release title is graphically better than an accumulation of 24 years’ experience making the exact same game over and over again and a powerhouse PS5 to work with. If I was a developer at polyphony id be pretty embarrassed to list it as a previous workplace, it’s simply not enough to be disappointed at user reaction polyphony’s entire design team from the ground up should be embarrassed by this travesty they have ruined what could have been a stunning return to form with this disgusting money grab entry, I honestly believe this thing is in such a poor state there’s nothing they can do to fix it before the 25th anniversary of the game, if they want to be ready on time for the 100th anniversary they need to replace their entire design team now.

Do not buy! 2013 non 4k Drive club is only a few dollars and its better graphically, physically and entertainment wise than this dumpster fire ever will be.

    - WARNING BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK

They want you to use MTX in a full price game
    - Cars are much more expensive than in previous games. Some updates made cars that were already expensive more expensive.
    - Payouts seem lower than before and when there is one that pays out well Polyphony cuts the pay out by about half
    - Many other pay outs were lowered as well, two were raised but that does not cover the amount that was lowered so a net loss for users
    - The "roulette" cards are rigged. In my experience you get the lowest prize about 90% of the time. Outside of the cars or other credit prizes they are generally worthless. Especially the "prize" that then allows you to spend 2 million credits on a car that you are now allowed to buy. Seems like predatory MTX practices to me.

    They are not honest
    - Claimed you can sell cars, you cannot
    - In an "apology" post they want you to see the long term vision, translating that from corporate speak means "we will not change anything and just ride out the wave of anger and continue our predatory MTX practices"
    - Can't stress this enough as of 9/29/2022 you still cannot SELL cars

    Single player is online only
    - You cannot play the single player offline races without an internet connect AND their servers need to be up and running
    - Early one their servers were down for roughly 30 hours severely limiting what you could play (it was not worth playing)
    - It took them about 20 hours to even post any type of statement about what the problem was or when a resolution might be in place
    - The interface to get from one area or race to another is not great. A lot of button presses and even more to exit a race.

    Multiplayer
    - Rammers are all over. You might have some clean races but do not expect to
    - You can get rammed, get a penalty for that and the rammer gets nothing
    - You might barely tap another car and get a penalty
    - Really frustrating. Almost at the same level of racing Monza on the F1 game in an open lobby.

    Conclusion
    - Play another racing game, this one is not worth your time

And here we are: II‘m out! Started a long time ago with GT2 on my PS1 and played GT3, GT4 and GT Sport. With GT7 the series is coming to an end for me. I will not buy it. Of course, graphics are great as always. But they have been awesome since GT3. This is not the main reason for playing a new Gran Turismo anymore. At least not for me. More important is now gameplay and game structure. And here we are: I don‘t pay 70 Euro just for slightly better graphics compared to GT Sport. So what is with the rest of the game? Is it worth it? In my opinion it is not. One main reason is the in game currency. It has been there ever since GT entered gaming but nowadays they want you to pay real money to get enough in game credits. So if you are like me and neither have the time to grind endless hours for some virtual cars and upgrades nor want to spend additional money for in game stuff that has already being purchased within the game price (70 Euro), what will you do? I say: don‘t waste any money and don‘t waste any time for a dirty business practice. Yes, I know. GT Sport has had microtransactions as well. But they were not as aggressive. Now earning in game credits has become harder to simply force someone into paying real money for it. I will not support this. Update 18.03.22: With a new update they made it even harder to earn in game credits (only half of the old in game price money for won races).
Some other aspects leading to my decision to not buy the game:
    - after GT Sport came without classic GT circuits there are now only a few of them back in GT7. Some of the all time fan favorites are missing again
    - Rain and daytime effects are finally there but - again - not available on every track
    - again no damage model for the cars
    - the online mode with three daily races is the same as it was in GT Sport. Zero innovation.
    - last but not least the publisher decided to not offer the game to Russian players because of Russias war against Ukraine. What has this to do with someone in Russia who want‘s to play a PlayStation game? I don’t go along with this kind of collective punishment.

I was excited to play Gran Turismo 7 on a PS5, but I had to settle on for PS4 version. I actually grew very tired of waiting to find a PS5 at a reasonable price, so I decided to buy an XBOX Series X (and don't regret it). Once I got to experience the Horizon and Motorsport titles, I must say that I was highly impressed with them all. They are beautiful visually, audibly and gameplay is a blast. I can see now why so many people were always saying that Forza is better than GT. Gran Turismo 7 actually pales in comparison to even the older versions (on Xbox One). I’m not here to bash Sony, PD or GT7; I’m here to say do better. It’s going to take some work to win back this GT7 fan over again. I’ll still get a PS5 sometime in the future when it becomes more feasible to do so, but in the meantime, I’ll be waiting on Forza Motorsport 8 to drop. Expand

For me this game is like a new FIFA. Looks almost identical, I will never use a lot of features of this game - like rendering cars on real photos. I give this game 0/10 because of the ingame store and expensive microtransactions in expensive AAA game. This feels like F2P game...

Nothing ground breaking just another GT game, and I honesty can’t understand what these reviewers were thinking, they must have gotten paid under the table for those inflated review scores

If you cant put ray tracing just removed and increase the quality! If you have the disc version the game just download the entire game from internet!! Took 6 hours to start playing, bit when i saw the disc its not even sound working y decide disconnect the console from internet and the game start to install from disc and then a patch download 17gb, the only stuff that i like its the story of the motosport the game add and licenses back. I'm so disappointed with this game. It looks great, it runs great. But forcing people to drive the worlds most boring cars for at least 15hours, paying out unbelievably small winnings and at the same time keep on nagging about "topping up your credits" aka Micro transactions, ruin this game for me. I'm selling it.

Gran Turismo has always been massively overrated and overpriced and GT7 is no exception. One simply has to see they are using rotating 2D tree textures in a 2022 game to give this game a miss. I would think it wouldn't be too hard to make a decent racing game but apparently in the case of Polyphony Digital that is not so. GT is more like an expensive brand-name product like a Gucci handbag that has poor quality seams and cheap zippers but you buy it because it has the brand. It has Japanese weirdness through and through it and in the worst ways. There are far better racing games without the GT moniker. Expand

This full priced Game has Micro transactions build in, after the press has written their review. Sony is a miserable company. And why always online in an offline game? No way I will ever buy a ps again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Too much restrictions, too many menus, uninspiring career races that all start with rolling starts no matter how good you perform in the polls, need invitations to purchase vehicles...and if you do not have the credits, those invitations expire. Static scenery and lack of animations for anything outside of the vehicle...missing volumetric lightning in some instances and on some tracks... frequent frame drops in training mode and sometimes in Career....lack of freedom with weather customization. The fixed chase cam is Nauseating. Can't look side to side while in chase cam view ...only in cockpit and other camera modes. Annoying microtransactions..This game is just GT Sport with a campaign. with a campaign

    This game **** sucks.....

    -aging car list
    - Stingy with credits
    - Uninspiring Campaign
    - Cannot sell cars even tho it says we can on the PS Store
    - Cars sound like a vacuum - Super ANNOYING rolling starts
    - Frustratingly slow start to the game
    - Fixed chase cam is lame and need stop be more fluid
    - Always online is ridiculous
    - Lack of events and compelling rewards after the campaign
-Cars are beautiful but the tracks are dead. No wind of tree animations. Just Stiff
    - Missing so many car manufacturers, as stated above
    - No reasons to do long drives because credit per race is capped at 250k even if it's 24hr long races
    - No mileage points like in GT Sport
    - Can not change cars from in race menus
    - Stupidly integrated the arcade mode into the campaign, while GT Sport had arcade mode on the main menus
    - Too many menus and button clicks to use basic features
    - Horrible Micro-transaction prices
    - MICRO-TRANSACTIONS
    -RIDE 4 has better haptics

    Verdict: 7/10 OKAY

As a simulation racer it was quite beyond shocking how good the cars felt on controller to the point plugging in a racing wheel felt a tad bit uncomfortable and the music as always is a great part of Grantourismo, and the graphics and such where quite good for a game and the dynamic weather and the minute details they made quite shocked me to the point that this is the first game that made me believe there was a gutter, but with all these negative reviews it's for good reason the harsh corporate greed that has plagued this game reallly is sickening and a lot has been said about the atrocious grind process and credit cost which i find quite deserving even though i love this game a lot for such little time it has been out. When i first had my long hand experience with the game was during the week of release and i had to say it was a damn fine game but afterwards the gameplay after that initial week was quite annoying with all the disgusting corporate greed. I expect a change to occur and the game will probably have one due to the harsh backlash it has received in and out the racing world with it's corporate greed and horrible online only system. This is a good game and i do not want to downplay it's worth due to recent news but this is a prime example of corporate greed and i hope the negative reviews incite the people at top dog positions to stop being greedy.

edit: As the hype for the game calmed down i have to say even after the updates im not completely content because whenever i boot up the game i just feel like it's missing something like that one last push till it's actually something i really enjoy but other than that one feeling i feel like it's still pretty harsh on it's microtransaction motto and the always online thing doesn't usually bother me but with a game as gran tourismo which i love constantly revisiting i just hope it prepares for longevity instead of a quick racing money grab. Everything here is still really solid with some of the best racing physics i have even seen and everything feels really realistic and the music and scrapes and the overall curated feeling they have conceived i love it and with the added story books and such i feel like this game is solid but i wish it goes back to the greatness it was at launch.

You need to be always online to play single player portions of the game.$70 for a game where an internet connections is constantly required.Meh.

Had been looking forward to this game for a very long time, but I will not support a game that is ultimately a boring grind fest designed to drive ridiculous microtransaction they snuck in after the initial reviews. Glad Elden Rings came out at the right time to prevent me from purchasing at launch.

The campaign is the laziest lackluster of a campaign I've seen in a racing game. It's basically a glorified tutorial.

Micro-transactions. You get very little cash from races. Unless you pay extra, look forward to an insane amount of gridning to buy even a single mid-priced car. They also market the goal of the game being to get all cars. Without micro-transactions it's not even remotely feasible to do this.

Many missions and licenses are extremeply poorly balanced. Some has a time diff of 0.5-1.0 seconds between gold and silver. This requires nano-second precision and is just stupid since none of the events/races requires this kind of precision.

The AI is cheating. They rocket propell and drive faster during the last lap. Even though you manage to easily overtake them in the first few laps, they magically catch up with you again in the end. Every single race is also a rolling start with you in the last position, and it's built so that you're only meant to take the lead on the last lap.

The roloutte rewards are a plague. Through the whole campaign I got one single car. The other times I got the worst possible reward EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. It's basically a spit in the face.

This game clearly shows that GT is a long dead series. Many other games like Forza Horizon is just so much better.

If a game is centered around being always online and is connected to servers that one day shut down, guess becomes of physics copies of the game. With no offline single player mode, you can never return to playing Grab Turismo 7. This is just a microtransaction machine, nothing more. It is not GT3 or GT4. Say goodbye to Gran Turismo.

How are So many important manufacturers absent? How are So many great cars absent? How is simulating the inability to obtain your dream car in real life supposed to be a joyful experience? These dream cars are already unobtainable in my simple working class existence. I used to play games to escape from the mundane and forget that I was a loser in life. Now, thanks to GT7, I get to perpetuate my mundane existence digitally as well. It's so fun buying an economy class grocery getter, and dreaming of one day bolting on enough stupid parts that I can place 5th to Sophy. Speaking of the AI, why does every race force me to start in 20th place? I can't get a qualifying lap? Sophy, so brilliant Sophie, superhuman Sophy, needs me to start 20th......and then somehow cleanly pass her 19 times in the hopes of earning 50% more credits than already were not enough credits to ever afford a Paganni. Nope, all I can afford is maybe a panini. Just like my real loser life. This isn't Gran Turismo....it's the Grand Tragedy. Oh and should I finally grind away long enough to have 12,000,000 credits, I also have to suffer the indignity of the invite. Money isn't even enough, I have to be deemed worthy of an invitation to purchase some of these things. Talk about art imitating life. Then we have the roulette wheel thing. Just like in GT Sport, this stupid thing will award you stuff you already have. That's not a reward. Winning a duplicate SIMULATED item which you can't even sell for credits is simply another way of insulting you. So I received an invitation to buy the Carrera GT I did. Then, same day, I won the stupid car after completing the final championship race. Here's a tip. Fix it so the game will never reward you a car which you've already acquired. Since we can't sell anything, seems logical not to be forced to stable duplicate copies of fake things. I feel like the people making the decisions about how to handle cars and credits are so far removed from where the minds of players are. None of us want to pay more real money for fake cars. It's dumb. Actually it's simply greedy, since obviously nobody at polyphony is dumb. Out of touch yes. Dumb no. Greedy most likely yes. Expand

I bought GT7 on PS4, but returned the game 14 days later bc of your false advertisement and defective practices. What a shame that you went the route of MTX. Got to support the gaming community bc you deserve the score you did.

EDIT: With the recent patch update, I decided to give a 5. Think Polyphony is listening but the launch was disastrous, in my opinion.

Gran Turismo 7 has a lot of good and plenty of great. The use of DualSense and the particularly well-tuned loading is exemplary, and there's a huge amount of work behind the game, with a lot of detail that's almost hard to believe at times. [Issue#318]

Gran Turismo 7 brings to the tracks every single thing fans always wanted: the GT Mode everyone loves, plenty of customization options, car loads, classic scenarios and one of the best DualSense and 3D Audio experiences the PS5 has to offer. This is the best Gran Turismo experience we have ever seen in a long time.

Gran Turismo 7 is a love letter to motorsport history and an impeccable technical showcase. The franchise's traditional formula gets good improvements, but it's still extremely true to its roots. One of the best racing series ever shines spectacularly on the PS5.
