The game is selling at a premium price and still uses nasty tricks to make the player community spend more money to get access to all the content in the game. Besides that the game is only fully playable when connected to the internet and GT servers are not down. Super disappointed in this game and devs

Gran Turismo 7 in a nutshell: Pure frustration and disappointment. Grind. Scrapping for money. Free-to-play mechanics for a premium AAA game. Unattainable cars and un-winnable races. A pre-pandemic car list. But at least it's pretty.

TL;DR: Save yourself the CR70 and don't feel bad walking away from the franchise forever.

I'm a game developer. Specifically, I'm a developer of racing games. Which is to say, I know my way around the genre and this franchise. And to be clear, I've been playing Gran Turismo since it's first version back on the original PlayStation.

I don't know what happened along the way, but somehow Polyphony lost its way. In pursuit of being "the REAL driving simulator," they turned it into a life simulator with free-to-play and RNG-driven structures that lead to frustration and disappointment. It's just as unattainable to be "rich" in the game as it is in real life. Want to earn enough to buy that aspirational supercar? Strap in. it's going to take literally hundreds of races.

At the heart of the problem is an anemic payout system. Roughly speaking, a steady pace is CR100k per 10 minutes of race-winning laps. I haven't done the exact math, but it seems like GT7 pays out at a third or less of that rate. Can you sell a car to make some money back? No. Can you test drive a car before buying it? No. Can you make catastrophic purchase decisions? Absolutely. And there's not a thing you can do about it except put in another hour or two of racing to make that money back.

Then there's the RNG-driven features like the lottery tickets (loot boxes in ticket form) and the card shuffle. Inevitably, they'll dangle an okay or even a great car or prize in front of you, but their RNG (which hardly feels random at all) will inevitably give you the lowest or second-lowest payout. A Porche or a CR5k coin stack? Coin stack almost every time. An invitation to buy a ferrari? Great. It's still unaffordable by any reasonable standard in the game's economy. Here are two great cars and a **** one. The card flip will give you the **** one every time. Even if these features are truly randomized, by leaning so heavily on them in their unlock structure, Polyphony are setting you up for disappointment and frustration 66-80% of the time. This leads to anger. Which leads to rage-quitting.

Staying on frustrating for a moment, the way they put you at the back of the pack at the start of every race is beyond frustrating. I miss the days when GT had qualifying. This let you practice, and improve your chances of winning a race if you put in the time. Instead, you must pass a dozen or so cars every race, no matter what. The race leader meanwhile can sometimes start two or even three turns ahead of you. At Daytona, for example: by the time you cross the start line, the leaders are already into the first infield hairpin on the road track. This means you're overcoming a 30-second+ deficit with every race. If you don't tune your car up, good luck catching up.

Then there's the car list. I've yet to find a real car in the game more recent than 2019. It's very much as if the car list was locked at the beginning of the pandemic. Want a Corvette C8? No dice. AM Valkyrie? Nope. Porche 992 GT3? Most recent one is a 2016 991. The list goes on and on and on and isn't that deep to begin withonce you get realize they've once again padded their car list dozens and dozens of racing "variants" that only have different liveries.

My biggest grief--and one that very much plays into the nerfed economy and frustrating game unlocks--is the fact that it is nearly imposible to win a race without tuning your car. And because the tuning shop offers almost nothing in the way of guidance beyond some generic description of the part and vague references to what it might do for you performance-wise, and because many of the changes you make to your care are permanent (e.g. weight reduction, engine mods, etc.), you can easily drop double your car's original worth and end up with a useless, underivable backmarker. CR26k for tunable shocks? CR36k for racing softs? CR50k of weight reductions to drop a couple hundred kilos? I just want to win this stupid series that requires one of two pickup trucks in the game, not create a track day racing supertruck that I'll drive three times and never look at again.

Racing simulators should be wish-fulfillment at its heart. If I put in the time, win the races, and make smart decisions, I should be able to fill out my aspirational garage. Instead, GT7 frustrates you at almost every step along the way, so you quit the game that you paid $70 for long before you attain those dream cars.

Bottom line, I've yet to walk away from a play session without feeling frustration and disappointment. I'm done with this franchise.

    DO NOT buy this game.

The game is beyond grindy for AAA game that costs 70$. For example there are legendary cars that cost around 18-19 mil credits. With how things are you have to keep grinding the same race over and over and over again for the next 25-30 hours or spend 200$ via MTX. If I wanted to grind THAT much i might as well played one of those F2P games and saved myself 70$.

    3. Reduce the microtransaction costs (if #2 is addressed, microtransactions can be removed completely)
    4. Allow the selling of cars earned during the menu events. Previous GT versions allowed this.
    5. Allow the earning of credits during multiplayer events with friends. This can be reduced as I understand it could be exploited, but not earning anything removes the incentive to race with friends.

A week after release, and after reviewers have posted their opinions on the game, PD changed rewards (a.k.a credits) for races to be lower by almost 50%. This makes it virtually impossible to buy any of the high end, unique, and classic cars. Therefore, this will push players to purchase credits with real money. The previous title, Gran Turismo Sport gave players better chance of buying them. It was difficult but still attainable.
Micro-transactions are not forced on players, but are made heavily necessary to even purchase any of the Legend Cars that they advertised heavily. Now imagine if to play this game (that you have to pay) that has a ridicolous amount of in-game transactions (that make it borderline unplayable without paying on top of that), you also have to pay an online subscription. And since it's an always online game, when that online subscription service should one day ever end or even just go in maintainance (which already happened), you can't even play anymore (permanently in the case of shutting down, and for a while in the case of maintainance). Because yes, on top of everything I said earlier, this is ALSO an always online game so the moment it will eventually be shut down, your 80$ disc becomes a frisbee. If you have the digital edition you don't have even that though lmao. It's fine when the online functionality of all games is shut down (sad, but still, fine, and understandable), but if your game is an offline game with multiplayer content, you can just enjoy everything single player in it. Always online games, instead, just die when the developer decides to do so. The game is not yours, you're basically paying rent to play it. Online only, even for single player, microtransactions, i strongly dislike the progression of the game now with the GT Cafe and the endless text dialogues after doing everything. I was really hoping that GT7 would be a return to form for Polyphony but no its same mediocre s**t. The graphics are decent, thats about it, everything else is just trash and i regret buying this game.

This game has such potential but it seems the devs are going to kill it off for cash rather than fixing it and listening to the community. Expand

I have to give props to Polyphony and Sony for actually listening to the players and seeing that their greedy tactics of lowering the credits won via races weren't going to be accepted and they've raised most race payouts. There is a few enjoyable races now that pay over 80k+ credits which is nice. The cars are still too expensive and MTX is still a little to prevalent but once the grind seems at least okay then I can accept that.

I can't however give the game anything more than a 6/10 because of two features. Always online and always rolling starts. The always online won't go away because Sony want to force updates on you and keep the push for MTX. I know they won't change this though so no point even complaining, they want it to be a live service. If that is the case then don't charge full price.

Almost all races are rolling starts, this is to hide the fact the AI just aren't intelligent enough to create an engaging and challenging race from the grid so the game creates a faux challenge with 25-45 second rolling starts. This turns the game from the real racing simulator the the real chasing simulator. Chasing cars isn't racing. If I could have one thing changed it would be to have the game take away rolling starts (except for a few mission challenges) and create a proper racing system. One that makes you do a qualifying time trial to determine your place in the grid then have a race that starts on the grid.

Maybe, they'll change this. I'm not sure but I can't get on board with the modern AAA method of releasing half a game at full price and then releasing the rest over time in updates.

I really enjoy this game and see myself playing it for years, I'm even considering getting a driving sim rig to enjoy it more. The cars feel amazing, the graphics are mind-blowing (some scapes look like actual pictures), the community is great with decals, liveries, suits etc. (even though we need an app like GT Sport) and the overall game is fun and pretty addictive. But this is Gran Turismo, this should be perfect but it has some big problems holding it back.

The way that the micro transactions are built into the DNA fabric of this game is ridiculous for a AAA PlayStation exclusive. I’ll say that again a PlayStation exclusive franchise costing £70 and it’s using micro transactions to literally progress the game. It’s basically a car collection game at this point. The used cars are timed, you cannot Sell unwanted vehicles. It’s all aimed to get you to spend extra money. I want to escape into video games not be reminded of how much money I don’t have or be fleeced from it. Whats maybe worse is it’s being described as “a real world reflective economy.” To try and hide how the game is built around micro transactions. The worst thing isn’t even the fact that I cannot get a refund. I literally bought the PS5 console for this game as i’m a huge GT fan. It’s awful to admit but I wish I hadn’t. Don’t buy the game in its current state. Wait until Sony and PD make some seriously big changes. Driving can be fun, but only if you manage to get through 1950's menu layout. Menu is simply atrocious and requires you to go through page after page after page before you get somewhere you want to. I have a feeling that Polyphony did this so you don't want to actually race. Why? Because Polyphony forgot to include racing game in GT7!
It's a fetch quest to bring 3 cars, given to you by the guy in cafe who cannot speak, but gives you tasks in written form to fetch some cars. Once you do that he will tell about them and ask you to bring another 3 cars etc.. It's just irresistible to listen(read) about the things that cafe guy want to tell you about.
You cannot sell cars you cannot customise what's displayed during race, there are only two options full and limited HUD. Limited meaning racetrack layout and leader board that obstruct entire rear view mirror. If you have an older car and modify it driving with cockpit view will only inform you about speed until you reach limit of a factory fitted gauge. What is your speed after that? Full HUD will tell you that and take half of the screen rendering cockpit view useless. This game is a biggest joke at the expense or racing enthusiast in recent years. I tried to give the game a chance by buying it out of historical precedence, but clearly this game (and the accompanying franchise) are no longer for drivers and gamers like me. Instead, they are meant for the lowest common denominator of micro-transaction supporting individuals and people with a steady internet connection which is not available here in the south. !!!NOT PAY TO WIN AND GRIND TO PLAY!!!

The improvements did not make the game more fun, enjoyable, or replayable. So sad to lose out on such a great base for a game, it is just that the experience is absolutely not entertaining, it is work, and not a passive enjoyment which is why I personally play videogames. Also I have never felt like such a loser everytime I get a rulette ticket before I even open the ticket, when something appears random I shouldn't be able to predict the lowest outcome to occur 9/10 times. Please, make the game feel like it wants me to play it, I love Gran Turismo 2, 3, 4, and 6. Do some homework Poly-"Phoney" and create real incentives that keep me playing the game.

These tactics realated to establishing "Real Perceived Value" from an in game economy are going to appear in God of War Ragnarok, and Harry Potter Legacy as well. If there is a dedicated player base for a game....
SONY WILL FINANCIALLY TAKE YOUR MONEY AS WELL,
with very little offered in return FOR YOUR OBIDIENCE!

Update 1.110.000 has released and it is a great first step in reclaiming the some of the respect back for a game that should have released this way from the beginning.

I hope Sony tries a lot better to listen to what is going on economically in the world right now and understand they are going to have to make there money on digital transactions based on REAL PERCEIVED MONETARY VALUE, and I am certain spending a small amount of money up front to do some real market research would have done a lot to solve the PR problem that Gran Turismo 7 has become.

The game is basically a 10/10, but the micro-economy has to be explained clearly to the gamers so they understand what the limits truly are. Solid improvements but more is still going to need to be done about the offline play as well.

I have never played a Gran Turismo game that:
-The game still has an upper limit cap of 100,000,000Cr. on non-paid credits (Otherwise known as Earned Effort credits). Don't get me wrong that is a lot but there happens to be no limit on the amount of credits earned spending real world dollars, Otherwise known as your personal income. This could start going down a dark road in the future.

-You still can only fully play the game while connected to the internet at-all-times. (Sport and Online modes are an obvious exception).

-Why can I not sell cars, in a game trying to be the REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR. WTF SONY YOU ARE GETTING GREEDY.

That being said, why would a GT fan give this game a 4/10 if the microtransactions aren't being taken into account? Sure, Gran Turismo 7 has the license tests, driving missions, classic original circuits (although reimagined), scapes, excellent replays, and general aesthetic we all come to love. It has some great new additions too like the in-depth car customization, livery editor, sport mode. Overall, on the surface, seems like a solid entry which is why I bought it. That's just on the surface and judged in a bubble though.

Well, it's been a solid 8-9 years since Gran Turismo 6 and a lot has changed in the racing game world. A lot of good competition has popped up and sim racing is a legitimate e-sport that has developed gamers into real life pro-drivers you can watch take to the track on the weekend. GT Sport and academy played a part in this, so good job there Polyphony. That's about as far as the praise goes for GT getting with the times though. Gran Turismo 7 has some serious core issues competitor games that are much older than it do not have. Project Cars, Assetto Corsa, Dirt, F1 for example.

The absolute biggest issue is the single player gameplay is very poor and dated hurting the whole game. I'm at menu book 18 right now about halfway through the game and I really don't like it at all. Every single race in the game is a rolling start where you are last on the grid, the lead cars start with a 20+ second advantage, and only have to complete about 90% the race distance you have to because when the game hands over the wheel to you the lead 3 fast cars are already a few corners ahead of you. Some tracks this even makes them skip very low speed corners entirely which gives them a massive advantage. This encourages you to use overpowered cars for the race which isn't fun at all and drive very aggressive sloppy races as you frantically push for the lead in 2-3 laps. There is no qualifying, no grid ordering by PP, no practice sessions, no way to play the tracks until you earn them in the menu book so you can't even practice/tune your cars on your own time. It's a very poor design decision no doubt about it. Gran Turismo has always set out to educate and develop you as a "driver" which is why GT academy and the world championships exist for the GT games. This environment does the complete opposite and honestly I bet the reason the online racing is so sloppy with all the ramming and hyper aggressive players is largely to blame on this poor design. How many of these players are learning how to play GT and learning bad habits from what's necessary to win in single player? This is the main reason the game gets a 4/10 from me because I doubt Polyphony will ever fix these issues. Single player is what it is, we will get new events I probably won't even ever do and that's about it. The races will stay in this stupid arcade style chase format, the ai will stay weak, and single player will stay uninteresting to me.

I want to excuse the lack of content, especially new content over GT Sport, but how can you? The majority of the stuff in GT7 as far as cars and tracks is just carried over from Sport and the new content barely seems like more than you'd get from an update that GT Sport got regularly. In time I'm sure the content will improve, so this doesn't bother me too much. The real world pricing concept for the cars is very stupid too. Most people can't/won't pay $250k+ for a 30 year old car that came out under $50k in real life, why would we want to emulate that aspect of being a car enthusiast in a game? There is absolutely no one I know of that likes how overpriced a lot of really not that great cars are that we like. I don't know what they were thinking here.

It's sad really, the core of this game is so brilliant but it's absolutely let down by laziness and stupid decisions by Polyphony. The cars feel great on my direct drive wheel and load cell pedals. The driving is fantastic, which is the most important part of a racing game really. The driving being good is the reason this game gets a 4 instead of a lower score. Everything else about this game is abysmal. The license tests is the only genuine fun I've had so far since it's just pure driving, no BS like the menu book. The always online means a day will come where you won't be able to play GT7 anymore as well. So going back to replay it 5, 10, 15 years from now won't be possible like with GT1-6. That also really hurts the appeal of this game for me too.

Verdict: If you're a massive GT fan, I still wouldn't recommend buying this game right now. I'd say wait it out a few months and see what the updates do. If you aren't a GT fan or car enthusiast, I'd say pass this game all together. Never thought I'd say this about a GT mainline game, but it's the truth. Peace.

I am a big fan of GranTurismo Sport, so pre-ordered this game 6 months ago bur turned out to be very disappointed.
I can't get used to the trigger feedback from the controller, because now I can't feel how much I am pressing the trigger so it makes controlling a lot harder, there is no option to turn it off.
Graphics feels similar to GT Sport, can't really tell the difference if not putting them side by side.

There's only several cars to drive, don't want to pay extra or spend to much time earning credits.

I want a full refund. This game now just taking up space on my PS5 (now I just play the good old GT Sport), also don't want to delete it because I paid the full price... This game was the only reason I upgraded to PS5, all other games I play are on PC.

Again, very disappointed. If I don't get a full refund or this game is not massively improved, I won't buy any GT series games or Playstations in the future.

Thank you for listening to the players and adjusting the reward payouts. Appreciate the new events and optimizations across the board as well. Definitely don't feel as "robbed" paying full price for the special edition.

There are still lingering features and content that should have been in this newest iteration of the series. Hope there will be more exciting content and multiplayer

I was looking forward to this since skipping the PS4 era (last played was GT5) and I'm now extremely disappointed with GT7 on PS5. Not much has changed aside from the menu, brand storytelling and loading times. I cannot believe Sony/Playstation is allowing such a garbage "next-gen" experience. Main complaints:
    - Barely any "modern" vehicles, most brand cars are from '12 to '14, I can only assume PD will put '20 ~ '22 cars as paid DLC
    - Mandatory online connection is annoying and has become utterly frustrating with the frequency/length of maintenance windows
    - In-game awards and currency is broken and getting worse
    - Car damage visuals are still as boring as ever, no damage meter to adjust
    - Environment/weather effects are still extremely boring, not much change from the previous generation (GT5 on PS3)
    - AI players drive pretty dirty, they'll take you out for no reason
    - Local multiplayer FPS drops

Many, many bugs, and a big disrespect with the people that supported the game in the last patch.
More dificult to earn credits to make people use real money.

Full of bugs and glitches, and they've just lowered the amount you can earn in game, forcing you to buy credits with real money. As a lifelong fan I'm disgusted, what a joke

A thinly veiled cash grab. This last time this series was great was on PS1, it is now nothing but a pretty coating, covering what is simply a mechanism to try to get its fans to spend a lot of money on virtual cars.
The single player experience is non existent, at time of writing the servers have been down for over a day, locking the game.

Luckily other companies are making better games without the crass monetisation, support those. Many people bought a PS5 (which are extremely hard to find) for this game and yet they are treated with contempt by Polyphony Digital. At the moment, the world is seeing rises in every day, essential costs (such as food and power) far beyond wage increases, people play games to escape and yet GT7 refuses to let you. I can’t afford a Ferrari in real life, now I can’t afford one in a game either……

Can’t play without a server connection. Predatory micro-transactions.

Single player Races= no qualifiers, always last place, rolling starts where you pass as many cars for five or more laps. Rinse and repeat. Doesn’t matter what skill or how many gold medal you have, you are last! This is not a racing game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Imagine my surprise when I paid $90 to pre-order the 25th anniversary edition of GT7, foolishly expecting I'd receive a work of art I could fall in love with all over again like the earlier versions, only to discover that it's now nothing more than a thinly veiled con to swindle unsuspecting, avid fans and supporters out of their hard earned cash. I'm not sure if it's PD or Sony that's ruined this game for me and countless others, but you should ask be ashamed.

You didn't even have to try for us to have loved GT7. We all wanted to love IT. You just had to do the absolute minimum. Instead you went out of your way to lure us in with trailers and hype and scooped us all up in your net of lies.

Nerfing the payout for races to kill the grind, LYING about being able to sell our cars, even doubles and triples of the same car, creating fake scarcity for car supply to induce fomo, the god awful gacha roulette which doesn't even pretend to be remotely randomized...all for what? That's right, to see how many people say "screw it, I really want this $20 mill credit Ferrari and don't want to complete 400 races to buy it, let me get my credit card." Because getting $70+ from each of us wasn't enough. And thanks to your forced always online game mechanic, which serves literally no purpose, I got to spend my one day off this week staring at a black screen informing me your servers are down. I'm assuming you're beefing them up for the influx of chash deposits your expecting after update 1.07.

To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. To say I'll ever buy another Gran Turismo game ever again would be a lie. I hope it was worth it. Good luck s̵t̵e̵a̵l̵i̵n̵g̵ making a ton of money from this one.

Gran Turismo 7 has a lot of good and plenty of great. The use of DualSense and the particularly well-tuned loading is exemplary, and there's a huge amount of work behind the game, with a lot of detail that's almost hard to believe at times. [Issue#318]

Gran Turismo 7 brings to the tracks every single thing fans always wanted: the GT Mode everyone loves, plenty of customization options, car loads, classic scenarios and one of the best DualSense and 3D Audio experiences the PS5 has to offer. This is the best Gran Turismo experience we have ever seen in a long time.

Gran Turismo 7 is a love letter to motorsport history and an impeccable technical showcase. The franchise's traditional formula gets good improvements, but it's still extremely true to its roots. One of the best racing series ever shines spectacularly on the PS5.
