    They should remove the DRM as well as microtransactions.

    While playing the game I saw that invitation massage twlling me that I could buy some cars and I was perplexed and today I learned about thos subject I cannot buy certain cars until I receive these invitations!

    I should be thanking Sony for helping me to boycott all of their exclusives.

    GT7 is a Nice Game, but the microtransactions and the very hard to earn credits is a no go. This makes the game very frustrating and the worst gran turismo of all times. I registered an account at metacritic because of this game.

    Total con. Waited to update game to screw over buyers with microtransactions who had already bought the game and after critics had given their reviews. Already told every one I know to mot bother with this crap. The publishers behaviour is venturing on illegal to change a product so drastically after taking customer money.

    Unexpected from a Japanese company. Honor really went down the drain with this one.
    Oh, you want money? Then how about work for it instead of trying to fool and profiteer on those who made you who you are today? Shameful, disgusting, dishonoring, while insulting the intelligence of the most educated consumer markets in the world with the official response as to the reasoning behind the absolute garbage dump of a monetization strategy. It's beyond belief that a triple A with GT's reputation can reach such a user score and breach the top 100 worst rated games ever. And here I was, thinking nobody could sink lower than EA or mobile games. It reminds me of the fat man in the restaurant scene from Monty Python. I feel sorry for the vast majority of people at Polyphony and Sony that actually worked hard and put their hearts into making a good platform and a great game, just to be ruined and disgraced by such borderline criminal practices, like hiding the horrible monetization from early reviewers. It just blows my mind that a full priced game can have this level of predatory tactics that is beyond freemium standards.
    As a car guy, I hope they remove all DRM and real money transactions (I cannot call paying 200$ just for one car - without any upgrades - a microtransaction) from the game ASAP and let this be a lesson to everyone else who thinks we're idiots, but at the same time, maybe it's time the market sees what a triple A total flop looks like and GT7 can hold hands with Battlefield 2042 and jump off the nearest bridge.
    On the business side, I am amazed at the incompetency, complete absent-mindedness and just off-world thinking of the idiots who thought this was going to go well after the response to similarly greedy and predatory monetization practices in Battlefront 2 a few years ago. These people need to be fired and ostracized forever from game development.

    POST INITIAL '1 MILLION GIVEAWAY FIX' LATER EDIT:
    The score is still 0.
    Every reason for the appalling monetization mentioned by Polyphony/Sony is complete **** they applied an aggressive freemium monetization model and there's no possible way to pass specific features as 'mistakes'.
    So, if they addressed the initial freemium complaints, why still 0? Because they even dared to try it and the game still suffers from some disgusting remnants of their initial intention which is ramping up again:

    -there are races/events in the game where the only reward is a 'ticket', which is just a slot machine with rewards that is configured to give the smallest amount possible over 95% of the time, and when you don't get the smallest amount, the next best thing is an upgrade/tuning part for a car that you obviously don't own or even worse, a duplicate car;

    -all the car invitations are 99% for the most expensive possible cars, again a hard push for the store;

    -you still cannot sell, trade or gift cars (see main competitor Forza);

    -there are no updates with new actual features, only adding more cars in the game, in other words, just more content that you'd have to spend money on, thus more chances of you ending up in the store and spending real cash for cars you like;

    -there are no menus for a lot of iconic car brands, like Lamborghini, Maserati or Lancia;

    -the legend car prices are still going up;

    -there is no helmet/visor camera (see Shift 2 from 2011 !!!);

    -drifting is still incredibly hard even with a steering wheel + pedals with clutch;

    -the sensation of speed is inexistent under 200 km/h.

    Also, an aggressive push to buy MTXs by cutting race rewards seems like a scummy move by PG, and it's absurd to the point where a better option to buy cars on GT7 would be to work IRL, and only then buy an in-game car.

You get cornered to end buying with real money the good cars, and this make a difference because someone with a expensive car will always be better than you. This game is a nonsense... Why do this game have this pay to win system as if were free to play? Even Halo's multiplayer (free to play) does not have this and all you can buy is just cosmetic things. Games like Forza Motorsport 7, with 5 years old, looks better and have better physics. Even Driveclub had better things than this, but Sony let the franchise die and now is doing the same thing with Gran Turismo. And I want to say this: if you let Sony do this sort of maneuvers, this practices will become a standard in the industry for worse. Gran Turismo value is 70 dollars and is mean to be a game as service title. Expand

    This has the potential to be one of the GOAT racing sims/games, but looks to be swinging in the direction of another game franchise that has sold-out to the games-as-a-service plague. There are time-limited cars where you are only presented with the opportunity to buy at specific points in the game. If you don't have the in-game credits necessary at this moment (which you likely will not), well that's just too bad. . You don't earn nearly enough credits from online and off-line events alike to be able to buy and modify the cars you want, and as of the latest 1.07 update these credit payouts have been reduced substantially. The meta of grinding a certain single player event hundreds of times to be able to afford some expensive in-game purchases develops with an economy like this, which is just mind-numbingly repetitive and boring. The developers may try and defend this game design by saying that the most expensive vehicles *should* take a long time to save up for. But in reality if you're an adult that works a full time job in real life and you can allocate some limited time on your weekends to playing online/singleplayer and accumulating say oh I don't know - 300,000 credits per weekend? ... you're looking at needing to play this game for years and years, decades even to be able to buy all the vehicles in the game. And that's without the price of modifying them considered! You'd probably have to play the game for the rest of your life if you wanted to modify them all too, lol. You cannot sell cars to gain extra credits like previous GT games, and the in-game spinning-wheel prize feature basically always gives you the worst prize out of all shown, bit of a slap in the face. With all that said, why would they design it this way? Oh of course - there's that sneaky little feature of microtransactions; being able to spend real money to get more in-game credits. And that's the direction they're pushing us. Out of principal I won't be spending any money on microtransactions. You should not have to after what you've paid for the game itself. I'll put the game down and move on to some other enjoyable activity to spend my free time on before it comes to that.

    And in addition to the above, the game requires a constant internet connection to even play single player mode. When extended server/update issues happen like they have done today, that removes everyone's ability to play the game they've bought offline.

    The strong vehicle physics, dynamic weather and time conditions (hopefully they come to all circuits in the game) has the potential to make for some amazing online racing, with tyre, fuel strategies coming into play.

    If they fix up the in-game economy of this game it will go from a 5/10 to a 9/10 in my eyes.

Not so hard to do cause as I said, the AI are garbage and your just cruising past them. This is incredibly boring and not what a “racing” is at all. Shame it’s what over 90% of the content in this game is.

You are immediately shown the Café on the map which is where you complete the main career races in the game. You finish these in a completely linear format, winning cars along the way that you will use for following races. In previous titles, you had to make choices, you had freedom. You were only limited by drivetrain or your car, and your skill.

    All of the thinking and choice has been taken out. Not only that, its painfully obvious the lineup café menu races were not finished, intentionally or not. It seems like either PD ran out of time to include races that utilize the I-B, I-A, or S licenses... or more likely they were stripped from the game to be graciously given (or sold?) at a later date. Once you get through the café menu and you beat the final championship (which only requires an A license), the credits roll... and that’s it…

    One of the “features” of GT7 is closer to real life pricing of most cars in the game. The main take away which leads into the next point is that cars, upgrades, everything costs more money relative to previous entries. For example, an R34 GTR is 400k+ credits.

    The design philosophy of this game is heavily influenced to push players towards micro transactions. There is no way to make a decent amount of money per time spent in any race to save up for the more expensive cars. Players had narrowed down 2 races which had the best payout per time spent. Keep in mind, these were the best methods of griding credits, not that they “good” to begin with. At best you were averaging about 96k credits/3.5 minutes = hours of griding a single race to afford one car. As of patch 1.07 they nerfed the payout of those races. Keep in mind, while other gaming “journalists” are towing the line for Sony/PD claiming this patch is fixing a “bug” that players were “exploiting” to farm “lots of credits quickly”, this was simply the most efficient method at the time, even then it was not very efficient. Especially in relation to how expensive cars and parts are in this game.

    There is artificial scarcity built in to the dealers where certain cars need a valid “invitation” to purchase which is only valid for a limited time. This mechanic is meant to induce a fear of missing out (FOMO), and to encourage the player to purchase credits with real world money. Also, the legendary car dealership features a selection of cars that are only available for a limited amount of time before they are swapped out, again inducing FOMO.

    In previous entries in the GT series, players could sell cars they did not need or want in order to buy something they wanted. Not the case in GT7, you can only permanently remove cars from your garage.

    Another hated mechanic has found its way into GT7, the roulette wheel. You gain spins through café menu races, and by completion of daily mileage driven. It is well documented by the GT community that the wheels spins are heavily weighted to nearly always payout the worst prize shown. This mechanic presents itself like it provides an equal chance of giving any 1 of the 5 items. However, nearly always it will happen to land on the smallest sum of credits versus a new car, or a coveted “invitation” to purchase a car at a dealer for a limited time, or even engine swaps.

    Engine swaps can only be won through roulette spins. You cannot buy them through the tuning shop like all the other car upgrades.

    These mechanics in combination are meant to push the player to purchase microtransactions. For example, if one were to surrender to the microtransaction demons and wanted to buy a 3.5 million credit Ferrari FXX after they got extremely lucky and won an invitation to buy the car within 14 days from the rigged roulette spins, at today’s priced of in game credits at $20USD : 2,000,000 credits, it would cost $35 USD to buy one car……. ONE CAR! And that’s not the most expensive car we’ve seen in game either. A jaguar that is 12M credits, which would be $120 USD…… I think these should be called macrotransations at this point, there is nothing micro about $120

    Game-breaking bugs including the 1.06 update changing the dirt tires on rally cars for off road races which made some races impossible to complete for many.

    The game is always online and needs to be online to function even for the single player campaign, not just multiplayer.
    The physics are great (outside of off-road races), graphics are phenomenal, and the sound design is fantastic. The livery designer is amazing, I have just as much fun designing liveries as I do actually racing. At its very core, GT7 could be a great racing game, if it weren’t for the aforementioned free-to-play-like/gacha mechanics that cripple any longevity this game had.

    Greed Turismo 7… between the predatory nature of the economy of the game, the bugs, and the gap of time since the last real GT release, polyphony management should be fired. This is embarrassing to the point of comparison with Cyberpunk. The driving can be good, even great, but thats no excuse - the game is broken and needs to be fixed or Sony should be handing out refunds.

The driving is superb, and I'm looking forward to seeing what other content is in store.

    Day one review:
    Literally a zero for being unplayable for 36 hours. This game is where we've arrived at after years of complaining and warning about "always-online" requirements. You spend $80 or however much, trusting Polyphony's reputation, and you literally can't play it.

    Not to mention the absolutely predatory economy model. $120 for a Jaguar XJ13, or grind for 20 hours? Really, those are my options? Why model the cars if only 0.001% of players can experience them? Isn't this supposed to be a fantasy where we get to drive those cars? Why are race payouts so low, especially when you get nickel and dimed on tuning so often?

    I am so disappointed in this product it beggars belief. This was one of the reasons I invested in a PS5. And to hear Kazunori Yamauchi not listen to the community, to double down on these decisions, asking players to "take a long term view" is just insulting.

    Underneath all this, the game is, to be fair, very good. The driving experience is up to par with the GT standard. I just can't get past the way this is all being presented, it's disgusting.

    The fact that the MTX's were added after the reviews proves it was designed this way and they intended to hide this fact to sell copies which is deceiving the user base. I'm not even going to touch the point of always on requirement because everyone knows its BS.

    This game doesn't even have all the newer cars to begin with. naming the missing few BMW M2/C/CS, Porsche 992's , Aston Martin Vantage, McLaren 7xx, BMW Gx cars, Audi RS5/6/7's and so many more. As a fact this game is missing most of the year 2017+ vehicles but don't worry, you can drive a Toyota Prius. This is the driving simulator they want you to spend so much time/money on.

    The game economy is broken because its centred around the micro-transactions (MTX) milking model. The game has missing most of the new cars people would want to drive in a "Real Driving Simulator". You can't even sell cars to earn credits even though the PS Store page mentions it. Always online doesn't make sense unless its a way to prevent people from cheating to get credits which makes sense if they intend to make profits through MTX. The physics is decent but not the best. The car engine sounds are far from the real counterparts. Sense of speed is missing in this game and the amount of dialogue you have to go through is painful. They seriously couldn't afford to use voice overs? and IMO the Cafe should've been a side quest instead of the main one.

    EDIT: Giving 5 stars for now since they have listened to the community. Will have to see how this progresses.
    EDIT 2: They're back at it with milking its users through mtx's. One step forward 2 steps back strategy.

    Let's add that, after 14 days since launch, the whole game (since online DRM) is down cause the servers are down (as now, for24 hours) since the latest patch broke something.
    Tinfoil hat moment, they discover a bug to exploit in game economy and blocked the access to avoid losing on those MTX $$$

    EDIT: moved vote from 8 to 2 and now to 0, I'm feeling mocked by the official statement release after patch 1.08, the way the took is absolutely wrong and adverse the playrrbase.

    The reviews should be done again for this game. In other scenarios legal action could be taken but when you buy the game and you agree to the terms that nobody reads that's you screwed they can do whatever they want.

    This game was almost perfect but after the patch the race payout are reduced heavily to psycho us gamers to fork out real cash for a virtual car we can't afford in real life. Also always online for a single player game?

    As of this writing I'm still hanging on with the game but I'm not sure for how long more. I would also add things of what I didn't like about the game like not bringing

    For a game that claims it’s all about the cars, it’s hard to believe that when the cars are locked behind absurd pay walls. I have no issue with the top cars fetching $20m, but when the best races only net you 100k (with the bonus) and you’re forced to run the same race over and over again…it gets old pretty quickly. Sure, you can setup custom races but forget about any sort of reasonable payout. The custom races pay next to nothing, so again you are forced back to the same campaign races over and over again. Unfortunately, I think Polyphony saw an opportunity to stick it to their fan base and gouge them with obscene micro transactions. When some of the cars could cost you hundreds of real world dollars to buy in a game, I think it’s fair to say that greed is the focus of the game; certainly not cars. This game is a nice diversion, but I will promptly toss this on the shelf once Forza Motorsport is released.

    Edit: Changed to zero. The online only component has killed this game completely. Sony and Polyphony have become the new EA.

    Stupid micros, REALLY dull stuffy vibe and slow menus. It’s GT sport with insane micros and 4K and a stupid campaign. Great racing, but good luck getting a decent amount of credits without paying loads more money

    The fact that it’s mandatory to be online in order to save progress is ridiculous. Also, the devs put in a trophy which is still unobtainable just to maintain the number of active players. Dick move.

    I love the cars, sounds and sights of this game. But the micro transactions pushed in your face and drip of payouts is astoundingly bad.

    Always online BS means when their servers go down, you can’t play — not single player, not campaign, not even local split screen. $70 game that becomes a paper weight because PD can’t keep their servers up. Too greedy to cut payout for matches. It shouldn’t exist for a game that worth $100 dollar.

    Prize money is pathetic given how expensive everything is, and they responded to criticism by lowering it further to push their in game purchases...

    Game has a stupid roulette wheel to issue prizes that almost always gives the weakest prize.

    Can't sell cars.

    Piss poor communication from the developer when their maintenance went sideways and the game was down for nearly 1.5 days.

    This is the new EA for tone deaf attempts at monetizing. Will never support this company again.

    Gran Turismo 7 has a lot of good and plenty of great. The use of DualSense and the particularly well-tuned loading is exemplary, and there's a huge amount of work behind the game, with a lot of detail that's almost hard to believe at times. [Issue#318]

    Gran Turismo 7 brings to the tracks every single thing fans always wanted: the GT Mode everyone loves, plenty of customization options, car loads, classic scenarios and one of the best DualSense and 3D Audio experiences the PS5 has to offer. This is the best Gran Turismo experience we have ever seen in a long time.

    Gran Turismo 7 is a love letter to motorsport history and an impeccable technical showcase. The franchise's traditional formula gets good improvements, but it's still extremely true to its roots. One of the best racing series ever shines spectacularly on the PS5.
