I can't say anything that hasn't been said dozens of times, but I'll share my thoughts nonetheless. Twenty years ago I bought a Playstation 2 just specifically to play Gran Turismo 3. Twenty years ago I bought a Playstation 2 just specifically to play Gran Turismo 3. I mowed lawns, I washed cars, I shoveled snow, I mulched, I weeded, with one singular purpose. I wanted to play Gran Turismo 3. I wanted to be able to get a feeling of all those cars I spent hundreds of hours dreaming about. When I finally got the game, it was everything I wanted it to be. It was everything I thought a game could be. I did all the licenses. I spent hours agonizing over tune decisions and grind strategies. I ran the Clubman Cup so so so so so many times. I had the ludicrously overpowered Pikes Peak Escudo. I ran endurance races fully in A Spec because I got so much genuine joy and satisfaction from finishing a long race. I felt like my heroes on TV at LeMans. I felt *immersed*. I know what doesn't feel immersive. It doesn't feel immersive to drive each car for maybe 12 minutes. Throwing in enough upgrades to blow the doors off the field, because how else are you going to cover a 45 second gap *in two laps of a 2 mile course*. How is passing 11 cars and like they're on lawn mowers The Real Driving Simulator? How on earth could they possibly have come to the conclusion that this is the best concept for Every . Single. Race. Every race. Every single one. It doesn't make sense. It feels willfully ignorant and deliberate to have absolutely no acknowledgement of any series races at all. Nevermind all the mtx. Nevermind the inability to sell cars. Nevermind the credit nerfing. Nevermind the 'real life car pricing' that says a Honda s2000 costs *a hundred thousand dollars*. Nevermind that a roulette 'prize' can be the chance to spend *fourty real dollars on one car*. Let's say the game gets a free pass on absolutely every single one of those things. And let's pretend those are every single one of the shortcomings. Let's set all those examples aside. The fact that a fully fledged, numbered Gran Turismo game. A game that took *nine years of development* to release, and the closest thing to a career mode has you changing cars LITERALLY every 12 minutes. It's just inexcusable. I think I talked myself into returning the game while writing this. Idk what else to do, all my enthusiasm for this game is just dead. Expand

Unfortunately, all of that is ruined by the micro-transactions and the currency system implemented. I’m not exaggerating when I say it is awful. There are no races that net you 100k and if they come close to that amount, it’s a 20-30 min race. But most races don’t get earn you more than 30-50k. Now, that being said, some cars (all the good ones) cost over a million. The most expensive I’ve seen so far in the Legends shop being 18.5 million in game credits for the mclaren f1 and there are many others over the 10 million credit mark. Now, are we expected to grind away at the same races over and over again for *literally* 60-100 hours for one car? I guess so. BUT, polyphony and Sony have a way around that: Micro-transactions! That’s right, that $70 you paid wasn’t enough to get even close to driving most of the cars in game, pal. Now let’s do some basic math. If GT7 charges $20.00 USD of your hard earned American dollars for 2 million in-game credits, you’d pay $185 USD to buy that one car. How wonderful is that? I might as well start saving up for a real life mclaren F1 at this point instead of being able to get all the cars in-game. Oh, and let’s not forget the upgrades for the cars that should normally cost you 100-200k in game credits to get up to speed and competitive. Then, there’s the car invitations. I love these things. Let’s say you were rich out of your mind and spent all of your hard earned (or mommy and daddy’s hard earned) cash, and you had the in game credits to buy that 3.6 million dollar Ferrari. Well guess what? Too bad. You have to be “invited” in the game to buy it. Because money wasn’t enough, you to have to grind it out until the game decides you can buy it. Oh and let’s say you get an invitation to buy that 4 million dollar car and you don’t have the money (you never will, you’re almost always floating around with 200-400k at most), we’ll again, too bad. You have 2 weeks to buy that car or the invitation is gone and you won’t have the opportunity to buy it again. Yep. I hate this game. Luckily, I have a gaming PC and will be buying forza Motorsport 8 when that comes out or stick to forza horizon 5 for now, unless polyphony decides to FIX THE FREAKING GAME. greedy people, unreal. I was pleased when it went live and the graphics were as amazing as it promised, the sound of each individual car was realistic, you can hear the Vtec kick in as the S2000 hits high rpms. The modification function was ok, don't really get why in some vehicles you can only install a front and side skirts but zero rear diffuser options? But the general experience was good and I was pretty happy and excited. However, the longer than expected update duration knocked me out of my excitement I gotta say. And after seeing the details of the update, it all made sense to me, why I was unable to sell my extra Honda Civic to make earn some credits, and why the legendary cars were so expensive, it is disgusting. I'm very disappointed and after a decade of waiting, I felt like I was lured into this web of deceit that aims to pressure me into using their micro-transaction system to save some valuable time. If I want to grind for hundreds of hours and suffers the finanical burden of paying for a car with lots of money, I much rather do that in real life. Video games should be where I can do that with ease and live out my fantasy. Expand

Really good game, but as a player from GT1, it's unbelievable that they raised the price for cars and reduced dramatically the winning money for races so you are forced to buy for extra real money virtual cars. The sound design is incredibly accurate and crisp, with wonderful tones that makes the engines sing. The dynamic time and weather are really the icing on the cake and so is the level of love for detail that the developers have including in the cars. It is simply above par from a gameplay point of view and marvelous in everything it does. However, I am going to recommend that you don't spend any money on this and here is why.

If you have limited time, you will not be rewarded at all for placing what little time you have as an investment into this game. There is a car scarcity, so they are reflective of real world prices (which at times can be outrageous). So, if you like to collect all the cars it is a hard pass. The campaign is incredibly short, as are the missions, and the license tests. There is a disturbing lack of content in Gran Turismo 7 and it suffers greatly due to this absence. Content, meaning cars, races, campaign, series, and events. This is compounded by all of the single player content that is locked if the servers are offline. The last outage spanned thirty-two hours, shortly after launch, with absolutely no feedback from the developers to the consumers. Inexcusable, really. It is truly a disappointment to write this after almost a decade of waiting for this game to come out, especially after all the gameplay improvements and additions.

Lastly, I just want to say that I am disappointed in Polyphony Digital. After a long run of very successful games in the series, fan dedication, and support overall for such a classy, innovative, and inspiring racing simulation, that they would be even more predatory in their pursuits. Firstly, they left the store out of the review copies, which would have shown their practices to be predatory, and have a negative impact to the image of the game. With all the events of the past two years in mind, you will spend no less (if you are very very lucky) than eight hundred dollars to buy one PlayStation 5 and a copy of Gran Turismo 7. To add insult to an already agonizing injury, they would like to cut the prizes that you receive for winning races, and entice you into spending more money out of your pocket on microtransactions to buy a digital car in a video game. The greed shown here is astounding, to say the least. Not only that, but I am sure that in the future, you will have to pay for the learning AI. I have seen mention of this, I cannot remember where, but I am sure it is searchable if I had more time right now to find it.

After purchasing seven main entries and GT Sport, unless there is a turn around from an ethics standpoint, I can not justify buying another game from this developer, or recommend anyone else to for that matter. This made me physically sad to write this, I am going to get some fresh air. Cheers.

Micro transactions are a bad joke... Waiting until critic reviews are out to introduce transactions is a common yet low move for the developer. This industry practice needs to stop. This is false advertising and should be treated as such by industry watchdogs.

All cars should be reachable in a full priced game without needing to do hundreds of races to get 1 rare car. This is not a free to play experience, someone tell the developer, I think they missed that meeting... Roulette spins are very obviously weighted towards the low end prizes, should be actually random. Reducing race payouts, limited stock cars and legend cars are all clearly trying to drive players to purchase with real money.

DRM needs to go! Always online mode for any decent content is ridiculous. Arcade and Music Rally are not worth playing on their own, might as well just lock people out during maintenance. Bring back local saves.

I'm a huge fan of car games, especialy simracing games and at first glance gran turismo 7 is a great addition to the franchise. It has loots of good points like the amazing cars handeling and sound, great customization and nice graphics. But it also has major flaws. The game can olny be played online so when te servers are down you're basicaly screwed. Since the 1.07 update it's very hard to earn large amounts of credits and the majority of the cars are very expensive. You can't sell cars and the microtransactions are very present and at your disadvantage. The roulette tickets are broken and give some useless parts or small amounts of money 95% of the time. The campain is very short and beacause of the cars performance limitations you can't play whith the more powerful ones without detuning them. There are only 34 playable tracks at the time. The multiplayer is broken and you don't have full control over your server ( rammers and dirty racers are a real problem ). To conclude gt7 is a game that has an amazing potential but needs to be improved drasticaly.

Im going to put aside the microtransactions and the 1.07 patch, its been done to death and they are major issues of the game, but im most critical of how the game structure.

    1. Why is the used cars lot clogged up with cars we will be rewarded with in the cafe menu, and cars you can buy new for a measly discount? It makes no sense, just give us the cars we cant buy new or will be rewarded with! Most stupid of all, the used car lot loads up with the cars that you are about to be rewarded from the next cafe menu challenge, why!? Who is going to buy them when they are about to be rewarded, it seems insane someone at Polyphony ticked this off!!!!

    2. Im a causal player, maybe 2 hours per day, but already im finished with the cafe menu after 2 weeks, and to my surprise the last race - World GT Series Championship - only required a National License A, and there are NO races after this that require International B or A or Super licenses, and no single GR.2 or GR.1 races or championships. Seriously? Where is this content? Where are the endurance races? The structure of the races just makes no sense.

    3. The economy overall makes no sense. Who knew real world inflation would be part of a virtual sim game! After all the Cafe menu, i had just enough to buy a single GR 1, 3 and 4, and a handful other cheaper cars. Upgrading parts economy is alot more expensive. NOS is $100k???? For a game that emphasises the collection factor, it makes it near on impossible to build your collection with such a stingy economy.

    4. Why cant we sell cars? If you want real world scenarios of outrageous prices for unicorn cars, then in the real world you can sell cars!!!!!! Again for the collection, i have a couple of duplicates because i bought a car before i knew i would get it as a reward in the cafe menu, and it **** me i have duplicates i cant sell.

    5. Roulette. Cars and money, makes sense. The invitations? useless as they are for hyper expensive cars that even if you didnt spend 1 single cent from the entire cafe menu, you still couldnt afford the invite cars. Car parts? Absolutely useless! I dont want a single part that only works for 1 particular car, give me cars or credits so i can choose what parts i want to install on the cars i want.

    6. AI needs work. the PP ratings are not reflective of the challenge of the AI. Im running on the hard difficulty, and if im within 20 PP of the "reccommended PP" for any given race, i destroy the AI and win by 15sec. I need to be 40-70PP less than reccommended to make it a challenge. AI pace needs to be adjusted according to the PP you have. Needs more standing start races with competitive AI, not an overtaking parade of slow AI. And bring some form of qualifying into this so we know what the AI competition is like against our car.

Ok, ill admit, given the arrogance of the statement by Polyphony after the criticism of microtransactions and the 32 hour maintenance period, ill assume a pretty awesome updates are coming very very soon, but man talk about leaving us with not much else to do in the mean time.

This games needs some serious tweaks.

And my expectations were met with a great simulator with a fantastic feel and love for cars, until about a week into the game's lifespan since release. Gran Turismo games are heavily based around their single-player campaign, this has been the norm and a large part of the appeal for many fans of the series. The problem is that with GT7, the expected "campaign" seems to be completely unplayable in this title without a constant internet connection. This game is Unplayable, inaccessible, and impossible to progress unless the GT7 online servers are up and running, and unless your internet connection is stable.

With that issue, there comes another fundamental problem with GT7, and that seems to be a mix of various gameplay restrictions that are new to this title specifically. In past Gran Turismo games, the player would be able to sell their cars in order to attain in-game credits used to buy cars and parts. These cars and parts are integral to progression, as the upgrade mechanic allows for older, more affordable cars to be modified and "grow alongside the player" so to speak. GT7 does not allow you to do this whatsoever. GT7 is the first Gran Turismo game where the player is unable to sell vehicles. This new restriction may be due to the new car collection-driven progression mechanic that Polyphony Digital has introduced, which makes sense on the surface. But this makes even less sense given that the various track payouts throughout the game have been heavily decreased, and car prices and part prices have stayed the same.

Polyphony Digital wants the players to grind too hard! It's as simple as that. This is a cause for concern for players who happened to spend $60-70 on a driving simulator game expecting full access to all the features of previous titles, and much more.

The most painful bit of this entire mess of issues is the microtransactions sector of core gameplay. With the issues stated prior, Polyphony Digital and Sony seem to have given players an escape from this incessant need for a perilous "grind". One can spend a very significant amount of real world money in exchange for little in-game currency.

This tells us players one thing: Polyphony Digital and Sony expect players to complete the immensely short and dragging "Cafe Mode" tutorial/career section, then grind and grind to attain better cars, be incapable of grinding with the steep prices afterwards, and then buy egregious amounts of currency to be only slightly closer to building a proper car collection necessary to progress.

As a player and long-time fan, I believe and can firmly state that this is akin to an elaborate cash-grab. This is Sony's leap for monetary gain disguised as a polished and well-designed racing simulator.

    The good bits:
    - the graphics
    - the driving feel
    - the scenery & tracks
    - the controller feel

    The bad bits:
    - Microtransactions (feels like the game was built around the free to play model but they charge full price for it anyway)
    - the "cafe menu" system of unlocking things (not inherently bad but you NEED to modify cars to win the races, this obviously costs credits which eats into your winnings quite a bit)
    - the race setup, basically no races have a grid start meaning it turns from a race into a "catch up to the top 3 and get ahead" in 99% of cases. The races are clearly set with 3/4 ability groups of AI in a single race so 80% of the AI cars just get in the way rather than being challenging. You can't qualify for races so in a "championship" you ALWAYS start in last place, the other cars seem to start and end in the same place EVERY time. - Online only single player. Just why?!
    - The AI, some AI drive well, others drive like grannies and brake heavily at random points, take stupid lines and force you off track. This makes it even more annoying when you get a +50% credit bonus for clean races and you lose it because a random AI slams the brakes on in front of you for a gentle corner that doesn't even need brakes... - the "roulette tickets", in theory you can win cars, parts and credits by completing daily mileage and "cafe meus". Out of the probably 30 I have received, I have won the minimum credit reward/basic part for a random car 29 times out of 30. The only time I haven't I just won the slightly higer credit value. So basically it seems to be so heavily weighted towards the lower end I'd rather they just didn't bother. (again going back to the microtransactions feel, "look at the cool cars you could have") - the economy. They brought back used cars but charge loads for them. New cars, if they're good they charge loads. Desirable cars and iconic cars, they charge loads. Basically ANY decent car costs way too much, 99.9% sure this is because of the microtransactions model. I'm sure I could add more to this but anything else just seems excessive.

I was looking forward to GT7 after GT Sport but it has been such a massive disappointment. I wish I had waited to see reviews before buying, I'd buy it again if it was at least 50% less than RRP but I definitely wouldn't at anywhere near full price.

I can't see how this can be redeemed any time soon. It's core is flawed with everything aimed at microtransactions and I can't see it's model being redesigned any time soon.

Save your money and save the disappointment.

I am by no means a racing driver, but a normal car driver and my VW Polo with its 90hp has more grip in curves on a wet road, than most RACING cars in this game on slicks on dry road. I hope this will be fixed. There are many other issues with this game right now. Credit system for a game that already costed me 100 € is just not fair. Its simply money making. So no real step up from GT sport. The game still has antialiasing! as a next gen game. So unfortunately many things are not next gen here so that also played into my decision to give this game only 2 points. But the “feel” of the racing for me is the biggest issue. This is Gran Turismo. The gameplay, control, depth, roster, most of the things we expect from the GT series. The game would have a much higher score, had it not been for some horrendous decisions made by Polyphony.

I will start with the biggest issue, and the most common complaint. This game is designed with microtransactions in mind. They did not add these microtransactions as an after thought, or as a way to make it easier to obtain other vehicles, they designed the entire economy around them. The reward payout is a bit lack luster. The fact that they don't let you buy the cars directly, but only sell credits (and the cost is insane if you want the higher priced cars) really shows their true intention. But the biggest drawback, is selling your unused cars. This was one of they most common ways to earn credits in most other GT games. However, you cannot earn credits by selling in this iteration. Why did they remove this? Simple, to push users towards buying those credit packs.
Side note: Polyphony even took the servers offline and cut the rewards drastically shortly after launch. They got flamed hard for that. They have since given most players 1m credits, but that doesn't go far when getting higher end cars.

Soundtrack. I have always enjoyed the soundtracks from previous iterations of GT. GT7 however, didn't even have the soundtrack as an after-thought. Yes, we can play apps like Spotify in the background, however I would have enjoyed it much more if they were to have at least put some good songs to listen to in the game. Using a music app in the background really doesn't feel the same to me.

The visuals are great, for the most part. Again, it seems like Polyphony decided to half-ass some of the special effects. Mainly, the rain. Playing in 3rd person perspective, i wouldn't really be able to tell it was raining had it not been for the wet tracks and sound effects. It doesn't look like it is raining at all. The raindrop effects on the windshield were also half-assed. They do realistically move as you drive, and the wiper effects are dismal. Driving through puddles, the water splashes are absolutely pathetic. I have seen better splash effects on the PS2. Polyphony really did not put any effort into the water effects visually.

How to fix this and make this the absolute driving simulator we all know it should be?
    1. Fix the economy. Let us sell these vehicles to earn more credits. The microtransactions should not feel forced. I personally would have no problem buying them here and there, to show support, however you built the in-game economy around these transactions.

2.Work on the weather effects. Polyphony has never really been one to cut any corners, however you have cut several corners here, and games from previous generations really put GT7, even on PS5, to shame in the rain department.

3.Some licensed music would be great. This is the least critical area in my eyes (and ears), however is something that should be given some attention.

GT7 was marketed as "The return to our roots" release. The true driving simulator. Well, part of driving is buying the cars, customizing cars, driving cars, and selling cars. You have taken that last part of a driving simulator away from is in order to pursue greedy intentions (microtransactions). These three areas I think would really make Gran Turismo 7 the king once again. At least fixing the economy and rain effects.

I was also able to complete the café missions within 5 play sessions, and now the only thing to do is to spend hours replaying sectors of tracks in Circuit Experience. This is hardly a campaign.
Why has true racing vanished too? Every race is a catch-up mission with the first place car starting half way around the track. I would like to win on merit, not by being able to catch them.

This game ran into the same problems Forza Morotsport 7 ran into, except some of those problems were made 10 times worse, especially the loot boxes and micro-transactions. And don't get me started with the frequent maintenance updates.

The content has been stripped from the game pre-release and is being drip fed back into it under the guise of 'new' content. The scum developers also withheld the macrotransactions from review copies and re-activated them after release, this behaviour alone has burned any faith I had in PD. I will never buy another product from them again.

Its a shame because the driving itself feel really good. Well, it did until they completely f**ked the FFB after update 1.15.

I give up on this game and PD. 3 months of nothing but the most ridiculously frustrating silence and decision making with regards to this game. If I could refund, I would.

Being a father of an autistic son, I can tell you first hand I would immediately have to enable parental controls to avoid him spending his entire paycheck. It's pretty sad when you have a reward system that is so greedy did it causes one to think about those who are mentally challenged or parents who are unaware they're checking account is about to get drained. It seems like Gran Turismo was thinking of those with special needs and the tragedies that surprise a single mother when they wake in the morning and their bank accounts drained because of a video game that is so greedy when it comes to their reward system that it's obvious they were thinking about the mentally disabled and impulsive buyers to make sure there is no door that's closed to avoid a single micro transaction. The ratio of money they will make from microtransactions compared to the odds of what the average player will make actually playing the game is obscene and disgusting and they should be ashamed of themselves to make such a good product for the sake of weaponizing it as a monetization scheme. So I bought it two weeks ago. I can not compare it to how it was before as I do not know but as a new buyer how does it feel.

The game play is fairly good. Not to much different from GT sport but still a bit freshness here and there. (My son aged 9 had a different take. After looking at me playing for 10 minutes he asked "what's the difference? it's the same game!" :)

However earning money is still difficult and the thing that annoys me the most is the reward roulette!

When you complete certain actions including your daily workout, I.e. drive roughly 26 km you get a price. In GT sport the daily workout resulted in a roulette of one of five cars. Now it is either car(s) , car parts or (always) money in different amounts. During my play and at least 18 roulette spins (one star and two star) I have consistently been awarded the lowest award which is worth next to nothing. I've been sitting, hoping against better judgement, that I would receive a good reward this time but alas no.

It almost felt personal sitting there getting that low reward every time, feeling cheated, and realizing that they are so greedy that they mess with such a minor thing as the probabilitíes of the roulette.

So all in all, according to others better than before, still irritatingly greedy in a way that has impacted my interest in playing further and in my opinion ruining the possibility of a good gaming experience. You can not have all the fun you as a gamer like and deserve without paying a lot of extra for an already AAA-priced game. Stay away for a bit longer and hope they keep adjusting.

There's not enough events and the way the events is organized is like all over the places. Back then the events where organized in specific type of races. Like you go an event for FF challenge and see the races and tracks. Now you go to tracks and see events, which is badly designed. I thought the cafe was for mini challenges like coffee break in GT4 and not for the main gameplay. -Car prizes is rather meaningless. Back then you get excited to see what car you have unlocked cause some of them were not purchasable or hidden. Now car prizes is reduced and rewards are money instead of getting car prize. This design of this game, unfortunately, is collecting money and go buy a car. Which make you feel this game has no soul or fun like how it was. Back then, like the first 4 gran turismo games, the cars where customized by PD and made them available as prize cars. I wish they can make an event with initial D's car as a prize car instead of throwing it in dealership and make it available for purchase. -Even though musics are awesome, but they are reused. I wish they add more new cool musics and in race musics like how they used to do.
-This game is seriously need to be fixed to be great again. I think no one would see this review and care

As the game grants you "gifts“ probably just to fix you up to buy more of that stuff, and you open them, you will notice, that you’ll get the lowest possible reward for like 9/10 so called "gifts". The other one time, you ask? You get the second worst rewards. Not kidding. If you’ve got a 1Star-Gift it was always exclusively 2,000 credits. The microtransactions are out of control in this game. The progression is slow. I bought a higher edition and got in game currency and ran out quickly. I cannot use the cars that I want to use without grinding or paying money. Some grinding would be ok, but not this much. Not even half this much.

Gaming use to level the field, the Poor and the Rich could own and race the most expensive and rare cars....Now thanks to the new American controlled playStation , even in games only the rich get the best cars...Unless your a rich 5%er whale or pay pig , you are going to spend your time in GT7 driving cars not much better than what you can afford IRL.

Looks like a higher resolution ps3

Looks like a higher resolution ps3 game, riddled with greedy micro transactions..One of the dullest sim racers I've ever played due to vanilla AI and extremely dull artistry. Seriously these are the most boring looking tracks I've seen in a Triple A racer. Play Drive Club, gorgeous tracks and nail biting racing..

Gran Turismo 7 has a lot of good and plenty of great. The use of DualSense and the particularly well-tuned loading is exemplary, and there's a huge amount of work behind the game, with a lot of detail that's almost hard to believe at times. [Issue#318]

Gran Turismo 7 brings to the tracks every single thing fans always wanted: the GT Mode everyone loves, plenty of customization options, car loads, classic scenarios and one of the best DualSense and 3D Audio experiences the PS5 has to offer. This is the best Gran Turismo experience we have ever seen in a long time.

Gran Turismo 7 is a love letter to motorsport history and an impeccable technical showcase. The franchise's traditional formula gets good improvements, but it's still extremely true to its roots. One of the best racing series ever shines spectacularly on the PS5.
