If they also intend to add cars with free updates there will be no point since no one will have enough credits unless they take the microtransaction route. I personally do not recommend purchasing this game at full retail price at this point unless sony and polyphony make a change. Buy at a discounted price if you must. Expand

It’s was a grind enough before. 16 hours in game time for the most expensive car. Now after the 1.07 patch it will be over 35 hours. All to push the micro transactions collect all the cars you are looking at years to have enough credits. This was a 90$ game.

Editing my review as some things have changed, original review still included.

They have fixed the grind a bit, now you can make ~800k in 30 minutes, so the situation is bit better. New cars have been added. Still, it feels like the game is still missing a lot of content, like music and campaign other than cafe menus. It is still always online. Original review: It is not the game

    Original review:
It is not the game you fell in love with (Gran Turismo 1-6), instead they decided to make an always online game with micro-transactions. They still charge the premium price for it however.
To make the matters worse, they decided in the 1.07 patch to cut the rewards of the races, so people would either have to grind hours and hours for a 20 mil car, or buy it with a very expensive (200$) microtransaction.

An excellent game that is ruined by a horrendous "always connected" requirement. The entire single player experience is leashed to a server that as of this writing has been down for 24 hours. If you are going to tie your game to a server, it is your responsibility to keep that server live. This is a huge black eye for Polyphony Digital

I have been a GT-fan since the Playstation 1. So I did something, that I haven't done in ages: I pre-ordered a game. Not just the regular edition but the 25th anniversary edition even.
It was quite enjoyable so far. I was even fine with the mandatory always-online functionality.
But now I changed my stance. Since 16 hours (and rising) the GT7-servers are in extended maintenance mode.

But now I changed my stance. Since 16 hours (and rising) the GT7-servers are in extended maintenance mode. And million of players can't do anything in this game because of this. No single player activities like even licenses are playable. Nothing!

To add insult to injury they simultaneously added some changes to the game: mainly scaling back the credits you can win by racing! Why you may ask? Of course to push their **** microtransactions! I paid 100€ and now they try to lure me in to buy credits to buy those higher end cars? Wow, really disappointing.

But even beside those two issues, there are many baffling issues. The short "campaign" via the ingame Café, which even locks many menues behind its progression (can't play Splitscreen without making much progress in this "campaign"). No arcade mode, lacking races at the moment and so on.

Given short time gated invitations to buy the most desirable cars, which are only viably affordable by buying more credits with real money too ups…

Baffling that the solo player game is not accessible without connection to the servers.

Also not enjoyable the way all races I have encountered so far are laid out. Rolling starts where the person in 1st is best part of half a lap in front and you have to overtake the procession of other vehicles, no qualifying or standing starts on a grid. A bit of an unashamed attempt to wring as much money as possible out of fans of the franchise.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Excellent game spoiled by greedy Sony/Polyphony Digital executives. They are taking customers as mugs and think arrogantly that we should be grateful for every bone they throw us and how dare anyone complain about their product not meeting expectations. They are pushing extra monatery payments for in game creidts.

The cost of cars have gone up in value since previous versions, they have taken away ability to earn money by reducing race prize money. The game doesnt even allow you to sell cars to raise capital for different cars. There is basic no means to save quickly or a mini game economy to allow you to progress to more expensive cars. It goes against what made GT1, GT2, GT3, GT4 and GT5 good games they keep messing with great formula and ruining it because they wont listen to what customers want.

I had initially thought this time Polyphony had got it right but how wrong i they dont care about the product anymore but your continued money after payimg £70 UK cash for game it seems that is not enough and they want more of your money to enjoy the game. A game is not a flat cost anymore and everything is add ons. If i had known that before PS5 that was Sony's new business model i would never have bought one. This game it is simple, dont buy it, sony have got greedy, polyphony have got greedy, they have ruined a good game.

Finally servers down 24 hours and counting, cant play a game i paid because no offline play, disgrace sony, disgrace. You are going to lose your untouchable business with this level of contempt for you customers. Dont say you were not warned. People are going to start voting with their feet and their wallets If you dont sort this mess of a business model out.

From the shortest career mode in the franchise, excluding Prologues and the PSP game, to a broken multiplayer system where they can't even implement Balance of Power properly, let alone regulate tuning so it doesn't favor one particular car, the game is a nightmare for any Gran Turismo fan and an utter disappointment for everyone who hoped it would be a glorious return to form after the barebones entry that was Sport. And even compared to that, the physics seem to be all over the place as cars lose grip arbitrarily at high speed and rally stage jumps send you into the shadow realm on the regular. To make matters even worse, corporate greed has infested this already lackluster game with microtransactions and as of yesterday's patch, for which maintenance hasn't even concluded 24 hours later, leaving everyone stranded and unable to play due to the game being online even for its single player component, earning the credits required to purchase the most expensive cars, which let me tell you, are really bloody expensive, has become a sisyphean grind that could take you almost an entire day of running the same awful race. As it stands, this game is a monument to anti-consumer attitude that can easily rival some of the worst abominations created by the likes of EA. If Sony cares about its reputation they will need to take action to solve the aforementioned issues, because otherwise this game could easily become its very own Star Wars Battlefront 2 and soil their record of integrity and dedication to quality. UPDATE: After 32 hours back online.
I still find it unacceptable for a €70 game to require be online all the time, even in single player. On top of that, the car prices are ridiculous. There is one special car, selling for 16.300.000 CR, if bought with microtransaction-credits, that is over €160 !!! And you don't on that forever. Once they shut down servers, all your bought cars and progress will be lost. A total rip-off !!!

Almost unplayable for a day now. Even offline career needs an Internet connection to the servers constantly. You can not play your career when the servers are down. Ridiculous !!!
All the cars are expensive. You get the possibility to buy special cars for a limited time only. It is almost impossible (the more after the 1.07 update, which lowered rewards) to get the amount needed within the time-frame, especially when the servers are down. CR 2,300,000 for a special Porsche, that's almost $/€ 23 if you get it by buying credits !!!

1.) You CANNOT play the game if you are not connected to their servers, including single-player. Seriously, why do I need to be connected to your server to have some fun driving in my own career mode? This is idiotic and I hope folks reading this are discouraged from buying GT7 after reading the multitude of reviews saying this same thing.

2.) It's blatantly obvious that they are pushing for a "pay to win" format. The most recent patch material reduced the payout for the few races that were actually paying OK. They appear to be doing everything in their power to push microtransactions on a player base that has already paid $80 for the damn game, as the current format would have you grinding for days/weeks for one expensive car. Some of us actually work for a living and simply do NOT have time for that grind. I guess we're exactly who they're targeting with their mtx push, but I'm not taking part in that mess.

3.) The game itself has lost its "soul". I don't know how else to describe it, but I've never been less enthusiastic about a GT game, and I've been playing them for over a decade now. Every race is the exact same thing. Start in the back of the pack and weave your way through traffic as you complete your "time trial." The game feels vapid and almost solely focused on PD taking every dime out of your pocket that they can.

Long story short, as of March 22, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME IN ITS CURRENT STATE. This is trash and I'm hoping I can save a few people a few bucks by taking the time to write this review.

But no. There's nothing. I'm kind of in shock. I mean maybe it'll be added later but - doesn't that just scream half baked/unfinished?? Why are the licences for these races in the game but there are no races to compete in??? Then as I'm looking through all the cars to potentially buy (bearing in mind that I'm on a fairly limited budget despite completing the career) it's clear that there are almost no new cars after 2017 - isn't this crazy? I thought we'd have all manner of new cars and special editions etc, but the roster is incredibly plain/unexciting compared to even older forza games. What's the difference between this and GT sport for cars that you actually want to drive?

Then lastly, decreasing the already low race payouts via an update??? This is absolute madness, there are no big high paying races like there used to be on older games, and now you're reducing the amount of credits from already low amounts. Obviously trying to push people towards microtransactions. It's actually disgusting.

I've ended up just ranting here but there are too many people let down by this game so I hope some attention is paid to someone even if not to me. It's a massive shame and lifelong fans feel completely let down, mistreated and betrayed.

However, the prices for cars, coupled with low payouts and the inability to sell any unwanted cars, shows that the game was built with microtransactions in mind (no surprise then, that these were also revealed at launch).

Access to desired features (GT Auto, Brand Central) was curiously sandbagged until much later in the game, which to me, only serves to add to the difficulty of play for the first few hours.

On top of that, within the span of two weeks, the game has been unable to run properly, with now two significant updates to fix bugs. Moreover, it's presently unplayable even in singleplayer, due to errors with servers and the fact that even singleplayer MUST be online.

Overall, this had the makings of a great game, but at nearly $90 for the Anniversary Edition and $60.00 for standard, being unplayable/non-functional after only two weeks of being out? Look elsewhere.

Gran Turismo 7 in a nutshell: Pure frustration and disappointment. Grind. Scrapping for money. Free-to-play mechanics for a premium AAA game. Unattainable cars and un-winnable races. A pre-pandemic car list. But at least it's pretty.

TL;DR: Save yourself the CR70 and don't feel bad walking away from the franchise forever.

I'm a game developer. Specifically, I'm a developer of racing games. Which is to say, I know my way around the genre and this franchise. And to be clear, I've been playing Gran Turismo since it's first version back on the original PlayStation.

I don't know what happened along the way, but somehow Polyphony lost its way. In pursuit of being "the REAL driving simulator," they turned it into a life simulator with free-to-play and RNG-driven structures that lead to frustration and disappointment. It's just as unattainable to be "rich" in the game as it is in real life. Want to earn enough to buy that aspirational supercar? Strap in. it's going to take literally hundreds of races.

At the heart of the problem is an anemic payout system. Roughly speaking, a steady pace is CR100k per 10 minutes of race-winning laps. I haven't done the exact math, but it seems like GT7 pays out at a third or less of that rate. Can you sell a car to make some money back? No. Can you test drive a car before buying it? No. Can you make catastrophic purchase decisions? Absolutely. And there's not a thing you can do about it except put in another hour or two of racing to make that money back.

Then there's the RNG-driven features like the lottery tickets (loot boxes in ticket form) and the card shuffle. Inevitably, they'll dangle an okay or even a great car or prize in front of you, but their RNG (which hardly feels random at all) will inevitably give you the lowest or second-lowest payout. A Porche or a CR5k coin stack? Coin stack almost every time. An invitation to buy a ferrari? Great. It's still unaffordable by any reasonable standard in the game's economy. Here are two great cars and a **** one. The card flip will give you the **** one every time. Even if these features are truly randomized, by leaning so heavily on them in their unlock structure, Polyphony are setting you up for disappointment and frustration 66-80% of the time. This leads to anger. Which leads to rage-quitting.

Staying on frustrating for a moment, the way they put you at the back of the pack at the start of every race is beyond frustrating. I miss the days when GT had qualifying. This let you practice, and improve your chances of winning a race if you put in the time. Instead, you must pass a dozen or so cars every race, no matter what. The race leader meanwhile can sometimes start two or even three turns ahead of you. At Daytona, for example: by the time you cross the start line, the leaders are already into the first infield hairpin on the road track. This means you're overcoming a 30-second+ deficit with every race. If you don't tune your car up, good luck catching up.

Then there's the car list. I've yet to find a real car in the game more recent than 2019. It's very much as if the car list was locked at the beginning of the pandemic. Want a Corvette C8? No dice. AM Valkyrie? Nope. Porche 992 GT3? Most recent one is a 2016 991. The list goes on and on and on and isn't that deep to begin withonce you get realize they've once again padded their car list dozens and dozens of racing "variants" that only have different liveries.

My biggest grief--and one that very much plays into the nerfed economy and frustrating game unlocks--is the fact that it is nearly imposible to win a race without tuning your car. And because the tuning shop offers almost nothing in the way of guidance beyond some generic description of the part and vague references to what it might do for you performance-wise, and because many of the changes you make to your care are permanent (e.g. weight reduction, engine mods, etc.), you can easily drop double your car's original worth and end up with a useless, underivable backmarker. CR26k for tunable shocks? CR36k for racing softs? CR50k of weight reductions to drop a couple hundred kilos? I just want to win this stupid series that requires one of two pickup trucks in the game, not create a track day racing supertruck that I'll drive three times and never look at again.

Racing simulators should be wish-fulfillment at its heart. If I put in the time, win the races, and make smart decisions, I should be able to fill out my aspirational garage. Instead, GT7 frustrates you at almost every step along the way, so you quit the game that you paid $70 for long before you attain those dream cars.

Bottom line, I've yet to walk away from a play session without feeling frustration and disappointment. I'm done with this franchise.

The game is released and microtransactions are displayed. This would be acceptable IF they provided reviewers with the microtransaction model before release. THIS IS A DISGUSTING PRACTICE and should not be considered common practice by consumers. They clearly delayed microtransactions to get positive reviews. I also feel reviewers have a responsibility to update their reviews or do a follow up when such substantial changes are made. On top of this when they realize people are finding a way to make grinding for credits at least somewhat bearable, they release an update to reduce the amount of credits you can earn in almost every race. The downfalls of an always online single player model have been shown in full force with nearly 24 hours of downtime for server maintenance. I can forgive some of the bugs but when you have ill intentions with your extremely loyal fanbase, and treat them like cash cows, that is something I can't forgive.

Some of this is my fault too. I bought this game without hesitation because of my enjoyment of past Polyphony Digital releases. But now I know that every developer's integrity is for sale. One of the daily race was to race with 60s hatchbacks, and while everyone was driving the Mini, I've decided to ramp up the 500 and spend 90k upgrading. oh boy how I was wrong, it's **** and slow as well and Minis just beat me. Was it worth it, def not, but that's the part of the fun. HOWEVER, to gain back 90k I had to go other races like 4-5 times.

The game does not give you room for wasting credits, as in make some stupid upgrade decision,s buy some ****ty old car and bring to race etc. You follow the pack and grind more or you have to grind again AI ****ty drivers that literally rams you and throws you off course. The worst entry in the series yet.

Let's start with the gameplay, The racing itself is obviously still fine, but let's be honest, there wasn't much to do here either. It's basically still the same as GT Sport. So let's keep "they didn't mess that up" as a positive for the game.

What is a lot worse is the progression. The money flows a lot slower than in any GT game and you are forced to visit the annoying café after every little step of progress you make in the game, to confirm it there, otherwise, nothing will be unlocked, no matter how much you win. It's just an endless drag and you get nowhere.

Now, if you're like me and don't care much for the career and just want to do some races, why not use the arcade mode? Well, that's because it's gone. Not completely, but they made it pretty much useless. You can't just start the arcade mode (no, the music rally mode doesn't count, I want a real arcade mode, like, you know, GT always had?) and do some races. You have to go to the track in the world map and pick "arcade race" there. Of course, you only can pick tracks you already unlocked in career.

So, instead of being able to chose every track and every car (almost IIRC, I think some cars were not available in the old arcade modes), you are limited to use what you unlocked in the career.

Let's go back to the progression "why has it gotten so slow?" you might ask. The easy answer is: Microtransactions, Sony wants to sell you these, and if earning money in the game is too easy, no one will buy them. And it seems like, really no one bought them, because Sony released an update now. "Oh, did they lower the prices?" you might ask. Sorry, but no, the microtransactions - actually, "micro" isn't the right term any more, in case of GT7 it's macrotransactions - did not get cheaper, but to make players buy them, Sony reduced the money you can earn in the game with their latest update.

The whole game is just a money making scheme for Sony. They don't care about the players, they care about the money. They even dropped the free update option, if you're upgrading from PS4 to PS5.

So, if you're on PS5 and want to play the PS5 version there, it's not only the most expensive game in the series, but it also forces you pay even more money, if you don't want to spend an absolutely unreasonable time grinding for in game money.

Oh, and I didn't even get into the always online stuff. If your internet isn't available, or Sony's servers are down (which is probably more likely, considering the quality of Sony online services), you can not play the game, except for the useless music rally mode. This is absolutely insane. This means, that the game will be a dead weight, once Sony decides to stop supporting it in a few years.

At this moment, GT is dead.

Two weeks ago I never envisioned myself creating an account in order to post a review, much less posting this one, but PD screwed this game up so much that I felt it had to be done.

Simple fact of the matter is they want you to pay real money for game cars in addition to purchasing the game (which isn't even finished). The entire structure from the 3 places to purchase cars to the minuscule payouts for race wins is meant to drive you to so called "micro transactions". What is that anyway? If I spend $20 on beer, I don't consider that a micro transaction. They should call them multi-transactions, as that is what they are truly hoping for... you re-upping your credits anytime a used car that you want finds its way into a dealership.

Other complaints include a horrible physics engine for the wheel/pedal vs the controller. Compared to Sport, this is a huge step backwards. I'm always faster with a controller, but some things are now simply undoable with a wheel/pedal setup. And along with a complaint about a lack of grip... why is there so much rain? Yeah, it looks great, but it seriously decreases the fun of a lot of races, I mean a lot of races. Far too many races with rain at some point. It isn't fun, just pure frustration (especially if you using a wheel/pedal).

The game looks great, but I have no doubt that it suffers some from the decision to be PS4 compatible. That said, if you bought a PS5 just to play this game, you'd probably be a little more bitter about it. The only real step forward that I've found is in body kits. Lots of new options here, including the removal of wings (thank you!!!), though it still costs you credits (aka real money in PD/Sony minds).

I want to love this game, and I hope in time that some issues are resolved to the point where I'd recommend it to the average gamer. BUT right now, I don't see a noobie to the franchise enjoying the title. Finish the game, increase the race payouts (all of them if you really don't want us to grind the same car and track all of the time), and get the handling back to something playable for wheel/pedals, until then I'll still make my daily workout in Sport, and have more fun doing it than anything I have left in GT7.

    Game is good.

    But..
Economic choices are disgusting. This game is not a F2P. Polyphony Digitanal deserves a **** and a boycott.

And Kaz, please, stop tell us this is the right.

To say this is a disappoint would be an understatement. I paid full paid price DRM prevents me from accessing the game for hours on end because of "server maintenance". Game progression has now been handicapped via a patch to sell more DLC.

This also doesn't include the fact you cannot sell cars you bought or earned through races or roulette spins, or that they continue to outright discourage players from grinding for credits as they continuously decrease the amount of credits earned from races.
Currently as it stands, I cannot recommend buying this game unless you enjoy supporting a developer and publisher who are more interested in their profit margins than they are in actually creating a game that is both fun to play and engaging for the player to continue playing over many years to come.

Final verdict: Do not buy, or buy on a steep sale.

When will the greed and micro transactions end? pathetic amount of single player content, and then when they realized people were making too much money from the races and not spending enough on micro transactions, they pushed an update lowering the prize amount for many races.

Absolute pathetic bait and switch. PD should be ashamed of themselves.

Lost the spirit of GT games, fully pushed towards microrotations. Also single player is extremely lacking once you complete the cafe books. Would've loved the old style of races and championships just with updated graphics. The most annoying thing even more so than microtransactions are the rolling starts makes each race boring and dull.

The first 15 hours of playtime or so are great, among the license tests and the missions and the "café menu", which is a set of missions that represents the main campaign, I had a ton of fun. It's only after I've completed all of that where I started to really feel the issues this game has.
Race payouts dramatically decrease after completing the café menu, paying you peanuts for hours of racing, and after one of the game updates payouts have been further decreased, the massive prices of upgrade parts further exacerbate this problem. You'll barely be able to afford upgrading and maintaining your current cars let alone buy any new ones. That "top up your credits" button placed right next to your credit balance, which lets you buy in-game credits with your real money, seems to be the only way to buy expensive cars, at any reasonable pace. Then there are the most rare and expensive cars, some which require a rare invite that can only be acquired through a "roulette ticket" under very small odds, which after a certain date will no longer be purchasable until you manage to find another invite. The other type of rare cars are placed in the legend car dealership, only available for a limited time and then are no longer purchasable until they appear in the dealership again, when that may happen is anyone's guess.

The developers, Polyphony Digital, state that the high prices of cars were designed to reflect their real life counterparts, and that the low payouts for races were intended to keep the player from restarting the same race over and over and ensure they play a variety of races, and that further means of earning credits in the game will be introduced in later updates.
Their claim of designing for authenticity doesn't seem to hold up when we look at different parts of the game. For example, the nitrous upgrade part alone costs a whopping 100,000 credits. Twice the price of a Chevrolet Corvette C7. A set of tires set you back over 20,000 credits. These do not reflect their real life counterparts at all. The credit balance has a cap of 20,000,000 credits. Which means you cannot have a credit balance of more than 20 million. This also does not reflect real life economics. Neither does the fact that winning the world championship earn you as much as a minimum wage job. The only pattern that seems to exist is that making money and buying cars is being made as hard and unreasonable as possible through playing the game, regardless of whether it is realistic or not. It's hard not to see that this is all pushing towards making players use their wallets because they're tired of waiting to buy their favorite cars.

The game is only-online, meaning you can only access the large majority of this game if you are connected to the servers. Almost all game modes are locked if you are offline or whenever the servers are down, even though many of this games features are single player based. This is most likely a drastic decision made because the developers want to monitor the player's credit balance and ensure that cheaters don't ruin their microtransactions cashflow.

There's an excellent game buried in here. Under all the predatory microtransaction tactics, I honestly think this could be an amazing game. It's such a shame that the developers/publishers have marred it with unnecessary tactics that really spoil the fun. I wish and hope that Polyphony Digital listens to their customers and reconsiders and make this game fun, playable offfline, and the grind for credits more reasonable.

Had such high hopes for this game, but the inconsistent physics make it difficult to predict and react to what your car will do. Also the payout rewards are far too low and are constructed to force you into MTX in order to be competitive in online racing. It makes me sad.

You will always get the lowest credit option when opening a loot crate as they want you to buy credits with money. You will not make enough money from races to be able to afford any of the legendary cars, as they want you to buy credits with real money.
