The most un-fun ARPG in existance.Low mob density because their awful servers can handle more, and even then continue to lag out constantly. Some classes speed clearing endgame while others can barely handle enemies of the same level. Awful and restricitive class balance and design. Everyone should had known better after they canceled OW2. Blizzard is long gone.

Save your money and wait 2 or 3 years for the game to get content. This game honestly should have waited another year to release. If you want to play it for just the story, then that's the only worthwhile thing in the game right now.

Unfortunate L for the one of the most nostalgic RPG series of a generation.

Diablo 4 makes you feel like you are barely keeping up with the difficulty curve and is very contingent on your skills and gear. If you do not put the proper point in the proper skill for your build using the gear you find, you'll find the monsters have become harder when you level. It's "match level" scaling can be an absolute hinderance to people who do not know what build to run or have not found the gear/legendary aspects to create the build.

The game has many problems from bugs and exploits to developers who actively work to lower the fun of the game. If one were to ask me if they should buy this game, I'd tell them wait 2-3 years (Diablo 3's timeframe from release to an acceptable game). I have nothing to tell these people as I have to be honest and I cannot just sit there and assume these developers will make any meaningful changes the community has been very vocal about. They have their vision to make money off of us and they aren't willing to change that in the slightest.

The reviews from game companies are clearly paid reviews or they played 1-25 and thought the game was gonna be that fun throughout. Levels 1-50 is where the game feels completed. Post 50 the game is a grindfest with constant nerfs to loot by the developers. The developers in this game have a vendetta against it's players that play it harder than anyone else because those players found the holes of content that was non-existent. The game is for now, a lost cause.

It pains me to say it, I am a huge fan of the Diablo series. Diablo 1 was great, Diablo 2 was it's peak, Diablo 3 was showing cracks in Triple A publishers armor and Diablo 4 is the full collapse of the series. Hacking and slashing through demons is great, but when the monster variety never changes and the dungeon boss variety never changes, you feel like the last dungeon is the same as the one you're doing now.

I put 14 days of gameplay into the game since release and I have not touched it since July 7th. They told us there was a big patch coming on July 18th, two days before the Season 1 launch. They nerfed everything. It was worse than I could've ever imagined. They nerfed all top end damage buckets and multiplicative damage types because they are worried top players will beat the content too fast yet again and realize their Season 1 mechanics are not good either and right back to a lowered playerbase they will go and nerfed all defensives by 50%! They made getting through the game more tedious than launch by nerfing EXP where you have no choice but do Nightmare Dungeons on your character to level, that will just kill you faster because your defenses are nerfed by 50% and if you can't tank them, you have to kill them faster or it leads to more dying - but that is nerfed by 50% on average with some builds seeing upwards of 75% nerfs to the overall damage.

I don't know what their goal is, but this ain't it. Save yourself money. Don't give Blizzard and Activision any more time or effort. The only way this company will change is if the same thing that happened to Diablo 3 happens to Diablo 4. Everyone gets fed up, 3,500 players are left playing then they make some meaningful changes to make the game fun. For now, stay away and just keep an eye on the Microsoft takeover to hopefully fix this abomination.

They had an OK base game that needed work, but then they completely unbalanced it and didn't fix the issues they started with.

I played the launch version with lvl 80 Rogue and 85 Druid, they are both broken now. I won't be joining season 1. They made all classes too weak, with maybe necro as exception.

The dev team has, on the surface, created a good game with solid, tight, responsive gameplay that feels good to play. That is where the positives end. Also, half the systems in the game are just terrible. the mount system is an absolute abomination, the itemization completely blows. I honestly could write 10 pages about all that is wrong with the game it’s kind of insane to think about how much they’ve missed with the team and budget they have. Then to top it all off, 7/18 released a patch which I can only describe as a complete slap in the face. Not a single QOL update, nerfed all damage and survivability, nerfed helltides for literally no reason. And the cherry on the cake is making the dungeon exit timer go from 3 seconds to 5 seconds. Nobody asked for this change. It is purely a time sink that blizzard thought they could sneak in. Absolutely reprehensible. 1 star is generous. the game deserves zero

I waited for Season 1 to give this game proper feedback, and my intention was to give it a solid 8/10, but in light of recent changes introduced by the game developers, I changed my mind. A 3/10 is the best I can do.

Slaughtering hellish legions is fun to the point where you ask yourself "What else is there for me?". Endgame is lacking, but it's normal for a game that has been just released, so people were waiting for new content that was promised by Blizzard.

Instead, we got the 1.1 patch that butchered the game for many.

The problem is this patch has taken lots of things from the players that made the game fun for them, and given nothing substantial in return. You could have spent a hundred hours building your character to work the way you want using the rules available, and now it's pretty much useless and requires a grand rebuild (respec that cost in-game resources, as well as looting new items). It's not that the game enabled new, better builds you may want to consider - your current character got nerfed to the ground not allowing you to enjoy the content you were enjoying just a day before. One day you log in, play, and have fun, the next you get slaughtered by a random white mob out of nowhere and you don't know what's happening. An awful experience for casual players and not a pleasant one for pros either.

What is worse, some classes' design is simply broken. Looking at the Sorc class, there are basically no significant choices you can make, and the only viable playstyle for endgame activities is "Stun-Kill / if doesn't work run around until the next stun is available". It seems Blizz wanted to address this as well, but instead, they've just nerfed this type of build to the ground while offering no alternatives and making the Sorcerer class significantly weaker than all other classes... just two days before the season starts and people were making plans to go for this class.

At the same time, none of the quality of life issues people were asking for even before the release were addressed. Stash is a mess, the game is basically a garbage management system where you drop 30 items and spend time thinking if any of them are worth keeping, because if you don't you will run out of storage space really quickly. For a game that was in design for 10 years not being able to provide a solution some games had 10 years ago is scandalous.

It seems as if there was a team working on matching digits in Excel who never actually experienced the game and had no idea what they were doing. There seems to be no real plan for how the game should be balanced, and since the release they've been just changing the numbers chaotically in the hope it will somehow get better. Instead of fixing the core of these issues, they just keep adding or subtracting digits.

And while I understand they may still address this, these were to be addressed BEFORE the game launch. It doesn't require a degree in rocket science to understand how the game you're designing works, and if you learn it after the game is released and decide to take away what makes the game fun for people, you have to also accept the consequences with the review of your game dropping significantly and players moving away (aka not spending money on your "live service" anymore).
Additionally, this is the first Diablo game that took away the option to play single-player from people, which is an absolute nightmare and causes tons of problems.

While the game has a lot of potential - the consisten interaction with the devs, shows a complete lack of understanding. Starting out and leveling through the campaign has merits - the visuals are good, story great. Everything else - meh, and worse and worse over time. The patch 1.1 put the nail in the coffin.

Campaign playthrough in itself not worth the investment for this "AAA" game.

I uninstalled last week once I hit 100 and killed Uber Lilith anticipating a reinstall during season 1 to experience lots of new content with the anticipated amazing new patch 1.1.0 now I have no plans to come back to sanctuary and I wish I could get a refund as this felt like this was a $20 Indy game experience as the story was excellent but Indy game short. This is not the experience I /we waited years for I expected Diablo IV to be a game we would play after dinner together for an hour or so for years to come! Happily it looks like a really great game by truly passionate developers is just around the corner with Baldurs Gate 3 to possibly fill the gap left by blizzard and Diablo 4 but that would be another review and we must wait to see (although everything looks to be roses there)! What I have such a hard time understanding is why is Blizzard trying so hard to nerf a game that is really a co-op game definitely not a true MMO competitive style game?

Very fun game, very well balanced, the last update 1.1 brought better balance and is more fair for all players. Cleaning up users abusing game exploits, rush dungeon or piggybacking. The part of the community that is angry are players who want to have maximum damage, never die to the point of being god mode from day 1. The game now implements more challenging gameplay and that is always welcome.

First Don't get me wrong I like a challenge in games That being said prior to season 1 damage and defense across the board are roughly cut in half for every class and skill. Prior to the patch you would contently get 1 shotted by a mob off screen that charges. You would also constently get into a CC loop that you would have to wait about 6 to 12 seconds to get out of and most likely die. They decided to make you take twice the amount of damage now and do halph the damage you use to so now you have no chance of killing a group of mobs prior to getting CC'ed to death. This is punishing not enjoyable difficulty. To add insult to injury loot is a joke 99.99% of loot you get is trash and ends up selling to the vendor so there is no real gear progression. I will still play season 1 only because the battle pass with the game purchase, After that I will dedicate all my game time and money on POE which I consider to be a more complex and difficult game than D4 However it is enjoyable, rewarding, and not punishing. If you are thinking of buying this game I will tell you the story is a good story however after that the game is not worth it, I would save your money and wait tell the game is highly discounted to purchase and play the game. The hell tides are okay, but infrequent and require a 40+ minute play session to open chest because of the low mob density. NM dungeons, which is where the game should be best, are slogs. Every class has resource and cooldown management issues that mean you spend most of your time waiting to do something. The foolish task inside the dungeon add nothing but annoyance. The NM dungeons should just require killing x% of the mobs in the dungeon and then the boss.

Builds are just not fun. You never get that power fantasy feeling you got in the other diablos. Maybe this will be a good game in two or three years, but it is not yet. I have a free battle pass and no plan to play season 1.

tl;dr: A visually alluring but fundamentally flawed and a seriously lacking addition to the Diablo series. Slow gameplay, boring itemization, and ever lengthening time-sink requirements courtesy of misguided patches. Avoid wasting your money on this one.

Diablo IV, the highly anticipated addition to the iconic action RPG franchise, delivers an atmospheric and visually impressive world with all the familiar elements that fans have come to love. However, it is impossible to overlook the developers' evident disconnection from the playerbase, as they prioritize lengthening time sinks over enriching the gameplay experience. This approach results in a title that feels unnecessarily tedious and monotonous, ultimately detracting from the potential greatness of the Diablo series.

One of the most glaring issues with Diablo IV is the misguided notion that elongating the gameplay by making it take longer to complete things equates to a more challenging experience. Instead of offering intricately designed challenges and engaging encounters, the developers have resorted to inflating the game's content with time-consuming grinds, repetitive quests, and artificial difficulty spikes. This approach does not increase the game's difficulty in a meaningful way; it merely creates a sense of boredom and fatigue, distancing players from the once-thrilling Diablo universe.

Despite the visually stunning graphics and well-crafted environments, the gameplay loop often feels stagnant and uninspired. The lack of innovative mechanics or substantial improvements over its predecessors gives rise to the impression that the developers were content to rely on the series' established formula without taking the risk to evolve the gameplay to new heights. As a result, Diablo IV feels like (and truly is) a step backward, rather than the much-anticipated evolution fans had hoped for.

They didn't listen to the things that people were actually asking for such as addressing inventory, gem, and aspect management. One of the games biggest problems is the inability to easily switch between builds easily. They've tried a new approach that makes switching builds super expensive. With diablo 3 you could find super mega awesome gear and switch your build up to suit that gear. Now, in diablo 4, if you find super awesome mega gear you better hope it matches your build unless you want to spend MILLIONS of gold respeccing. It's sad. Basically the goal is the game is to now grind for gear that matches your build instead of being able to explore builds freely.

Currently there are a ton of gems that you get and you only have 33 slots on your character...that means you'll be going back to are going back to town CONSTANTLY!! It's so annoying, Anywho, everyone's been asking for this to change and for the devs to rework this system to make the game more fun, but instead of listening to the player base and fixing these issues they instead decided to nerf everyone's players across the board, make the game more grindy, absolutely destroyed the 'sorcerer' class, reduced defensive skills across the board making us die more. This game is not for casual players anymore.

QOL features like a party finder and manageable storage space are completely missing. The game is also riddled with questionable design decisions and bugs like resistances not working although res is the main form of defense for certain classes.

This recent patch was a ham-fisted attempt at slowing down the game since they don't have any quality endgame content to offer their players. Oh and don't forget, if this season seems like a slog you can always buy an Accelerated Battle Pass for 25 USD and skip through some of the pain points!

While I had reservations following the underwhelming experience of Diablo 3, the early reviews for Diablo 4 were promising, so I decided to purchase it. For the past six weeks, I've been having fun playing the game, despite choosing the Sorceress class, which is considered the weakest for end-game content.

However, my excitement turned to disappointment when patch 1.1 was deployed just two days before the start of the first season. This patch is widely regarded as one of the worst in gaming history. Blizzard essentially ruined the game by implementing massive nerfs across the board, affecting damage, defense, and experience gain, without providing any meaningful quality of life changes such as increased stash space, paragon board rerolls, or alternative build loadouts. The only plausible explanation seems to be that Blizzard lacked sufficient endgame content, so they artificially extended the "boring part" of the game to make players invest more time in grinding.

In today's gaming landscape, such behavior from a game company is completely unacceptable in 2023. Blizzard has become incredibly out of touch with the player base and even with its own game. It is truly disheartening to witness the downfall of what was once such a wonderful game company.

Diablo Devs are so hardheaded with their approach for Diablo 4 that they do not listen to its community feedback and it's always "WE ARE RIGHT, YOU ARE WRONG". They need a Dev overhaul, Rod needs to go pronto.

You cant replay campaign bosses/maps unless you start a new char.

As an example, if you get lucky and loot a legendary item is the same one you are currently wearing only 10 levels higher with the exact same stat rolls, the stats can actually be lower on the +10 level item because of the way the gearing works. Also as of the time of this writing, no theory crafter has yet to be able to figure out how resistance works. You can get something that says +50% to lightening resist and when you equip it, your lightening resist goes from ~40% -> ~43%.

Its generally accepted that the sorcerer is in the worst state compared to any other class from all patch versions of all Diablo games one though four. The community was very excited because of a major patch coming out which we were hopeful would fix so many of these day 1 issues and to make the sorcerer more viable.

To say this patch was tone-def would be an understatement. It fixed 0 day 1 issues, the side quests that i couldn't complete due to bugs, were stlll uncompleteable and bugged. It nerfed all classes, nerfed XP gains, and took the 3 most important stats for sorcerer, Vulnerable damage, Cooldown reduction, and Crit and nerfed them to the ground. The current team has an absolutely incoherent design philosophy that shows through constant embarrassments in just about every one of their patches. Constant nerfs and bizarre itemization choices make investing time into this game utterly pointless. The best items in the game are so rare that even the sweatlords were constantly asking blizzard if the items were even in the game 3 weeks after launch, which effectively means there are no chase items in the game. 10 million copies sold and you can count on one hand the number of people that have found these items. Literally. Then, the items that were attainable were made absolutely obsolete after the latest patch and had their stats forcefully changed. Zero quality of life changes that players have been begging for and should have been in the game from day 1. This game is run by buffoons and has zero hope of ever sniffing it’s potential. This game is a Disaster. Expand

I have been playing quite a few RPGs and all Diablo games to date. It still escapes me how a company like Blizzard can make a so poorly planned game launch. They haven't thought which kind of players to target to basically they are targeting none. The game itself is fine but it has a lot of issues. Itemization is really bad and messy. By the end game most item drops are useless, even uniques. It feels like an endless and nonsense grind.

There is a huge gap between the performance of different builds making it a forced single option if you want to be able to do something.

On top of this Blizzard seems to not acknowledge these issues and instead they go for making the grind worse and destroying the popular builds and stats / aspects. But they don't balance others. I got to 74 because i was playing with friends. Was gonna try something different for season one but looking at the direction of the game i will just take a break and allow them to either find the right path or just kill their game.

Awful. No group finder? Really? Not a AAA game by any stretch of the imagination.

Story is quite good enjoyed playing through it and leveled up to 80. Was enjoyable but slowly turned into a slow grind. That i could deal with but now with the latest patch with nerfs to damage and making it easier to die and xp gains are nerfed its a grind fest. Less damage less kills less lot drops, increased skill times so less skills to use not so much action in this arpg now ! Oh andStory is quite good enjoyed playing through it and leveled up to 80. There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.

The visuals are probably what excited me the most. The way the game looks and the atmosphere makes me feel like I'm playing the old Diablo again. On steroids and on a quadruple screen TV, but the feeling is still there. [Issue#328]

Diablo is back, and taking no prisoners. The top-quality, lengthy campaign will be enough for some, while the endgame should prove a welcome obsession for others. [Issue#30, p.84]
