Great locations, great visual, great technologies, great flashback's moments, great voice acting, good script-action moments.

Disgusting story without a sense, not interesting characters, pointless dialogs, old 2013's gameplay (with minimal innovations in my opinion), useless exploring, stupid AI.

I hated the story. Plain and simple. Graphics, gameplay, and audio are AMAZING. But The story is such a polished turd that I cannot recommend this game. I honestly think the second half of the game could be removed and I would have gave the game a much higher score. Abby is the most garbage written character, and the plot twist about why Dina is sick is laugh out loud bad. I feel like ifI hated the story. Plain and simple. I thought the game was over, not a bad story, good gameplay and no the game was not over. Yeah, we see also Abbys story, we understand her motivation. It is ok. But should we play the same game again with Abby? And after the story of Abby over, then we play the same game again with Ellie. Playing guitar and babysitting scenes are extra boring. After a while I thought maybe I should stop playing and watch the story from YouTube. Good graphics, perfect controls, good gameplay. Not good and not bad story. 7 points.

"The Last of Us Part II" teilt hierbei die meisten der Stärken und Schwächen des ersten Teiles.

Fantastic graphics, but the plot and the characters are really bad. The game-play is good, play in stealth is really cool, some action scenes are awesome, but sometimes the game-play is tedious. The ending is predictable and really bad. I prefer replay the first part than this new game.

The first 10 or so hours is gripping, edge of your seat story telling and it ties in with Part I very well, however once you get around this 10 hour mark, after a major story point with Ellie, the game seems to take a dive in storytelling and gameplay and it seems as though you're walking from one area to the next with no real incentive for the player to care for the reasons why.
The story picks up again towards the end and gets exciting once again, however it seems as though a lot of the character development achieved in Part I is tossed out the window.

To conclude. The game is visually a masterpiece and most of the gameplay upgrades are welcome, however a stop/start story and inconsistent character development does at times struggle to keep you in it for the full 25 hour story adventure.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It had an excellent Beginning and middle a 9.5 out of 10. It was all great until the end of the theater scene where Abby beats down Ellie.

This is the reason I dropped the score to a 7.

Ellie lost Joel but she had it made on that Farm. She still had Dina, the baby, and Tommy! Ellies number 1 priority should have been the baby and Dina. Ellie decides to go after Abby, but Abby let Ellie go on 2 different occasions. I think Ellie should have let it go and enjoyed her life with Dina, and the baby. I noticed there was so much hate for Abby, but I feel like Abby is a much better person than Ellie. After months of Ellie searching she finally finds Abby who’s already been tortured for weeks. Ellie decides not to kill Abby at the end. I just think the story took a turn for the worst in the last chunk of this game. The game play was superb and I loved the variety of weapons. The graphics are some of the best I’ve ever seen. The cons out weight the pros, that's why I give it a 7.

This was a largely anticipated game for me and although the game play and graphics was 10/10 the writing for this game largely made me disappointed. Although I fully expected Joel to die in this game I think it was poorly handled, with Joel and tommy giving their names up to a complete stranger and then just having the rest of the game to just be a revenge plot just seems to ruin the potential this franchise had.
the whole game feels like it feels that it has much more depth than it actually has, with the "real people are monsters story" and showing how abbey is also a person even though that is already heavily implied in the first scene when Owen saves Tommy and Ellie's life .

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Was okay with 16 hours of playing as Ellie and went along with the story that started to make sense within the last 5 hours and leaving you with a suspense scene, the game then interrupts the whole flow of the story and forces you to play as Abby. Okay sure I'll go along with it, after 2 hours of playing Abbys part I realised how repetitive and unrewarding the looting is.

Playing as Ellie and unlocking most her skills tree was fine but to expect me to play a new character and having to start over with a new skill tree and having scavenge all over again to upgrade my weapons and skill is just painfully tedious and repetitive. I have been playing on hard so the ammo are scaled to 1-2 per find and scrap parts are as low as 2-10 (excluding safe openings).

    So...
    A) The game stops you at 16 hours and leave you with a suspense scene, then expects you to play as another character you clearly know you don't like.
    B) You start from the very beginning after the "drastic" event that happened as the new character, which made that "drastic" decision.
    C) You have scavenge and craft upgrades for the weapons and level the new characters skill tree all over again.

In short, I did not continue after 2 hours of playing Abby's part of the game. I could not bring myself to through play through the rest of the game as it is tedious and repetitive and also I don't play unlikeable characters that clearly does not deserve playtime or a complete story from beginning to end. As for the rest of the story I guess I'll have to watch the rest of gameplay as I can't stand to play over the game's leveling and crafting mechanic.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us 2 was my most anticipated game. After dodging spoilers left and right, I finally played the game through and was happy to beat it. The visuals and the scenes were awesome and beautiful. Combat was a plus from the last game and enemies felt more real and combat was explosive. I want to state the bad. After the death of Joel, I felt Ellie did not grieve enough and the trip to Seattle was too quick. Abby had her revenge completed and Ellie fell flat in the end by letting her go. Ellie killed Abby's friends and that was a plus, but I did not feel bad for them really. The Joel flashbacks would have been sooo much better if it was chronological from the start of the game. Maybe 1 flashback would have been fine. The Abby flashback was great and after laughing for years about how Joel killed the doctor with a scalpel, I did feel bad about it in this game. Also, the trip to California was really short and fell flat and was unexciting. I assumed I would get a couple more hours of gameplay, but it was roughly about 1 hour. I can see that this game was meant about loss and revenge for Joel. Jesse's death was sad and out of nowhere. A great character is killed and the only thing we see left of Jesse is a picture on the farm.Issac would have been a better character, but his screen time was really weak. Seeing that the fireflies are still around is cool and could open up to another game. The Scars were awesome and i loved the whistle call outs they did. WLF was neat and the community they had was alive and interesting. I thought Tommy died near the end and slammed my fist down on my desk, so I was emotionally attached to the story and that was all the mattered to me. I enjoyed the hell out of this game and will play it again to get the trophies. The last of us 1 was my favorite game of all time, but this one did not top that. Thank You. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. -Graphics: 10, nothing to say about the graphics, this is the best looking PS4 game.
-Gameplay: 7, a little repetitive, nothing out of the ordinary compared to the first game.
-Story: 4, this is where it gets worse. The game obviously wants you to think that revenge is bad and stuff, but you don't really UNDERSTAND the message, the game makes you feel it by throwing shocking, violent scenes that are made to disgust you. The motivation of the characters are sometimes really confusing, I don't get why Abby tortured Joel on purpose for seemingly no reason; she didn't have to do that. This is why I don't like Abby, even at the end of the game. The game wants you to hate her in the beginning, and then you have to forgive her and to see her as a "nice person". I think it's really hard to go through all of these emotions after a character TORTURED a beloved character from the first game, especially after hating her so much in the beginning. I get what they wanted to do but it's executed poorly, with a lot of (too many) plot holes to help the story.
-Sounds and OST: 9, the musics are as good as the first game, and sounds are well done.
-Characters: 3, I didn't really like all the secondary characters like Dina and Jesse, even though I felt something during Jesse's death, so that's good I guess. Lev and Yara are meh, I didn't care when Yara died, and if Lev were to die, I wouldn't care either. The worst ones are Abby's friends, mainly because I don't care about Abby's life and stuff. I just want them to die (I was even happy when Manny died), or I just don't care about them because I know they will die in the first place. And for the characters in the first game, I really don't think they are the same. Joel death in particular, was just really stupid. I get that after 4 years being at Jackson, he became more human, but I didn't see that before he gets killed. Flashbacks where he is actually nice come AFTER he died. Again, poorly executed.
-Pacing: 3, I really didn't like playing as Abby. I actually didn't want to play as her, I just did it to see the ending and what happened in the theater. Also, Ellie's first day in Seattle is boring. I would've preferred to play as Abby 10 hours before Joel's death, because after she kills Joel what's even the point to make me appreciate her? I just didn't want to play as someone that killed someone I like, especially in a dumb situation like that.
All of this makes an overral score of 6, which is in my opinion a fair score. I don't why you would put a perfect score if you played the first game, but I also don't get why you would score a 0 because Joel dies.

And after killing a major character with ZERO buildup 5 minutes into the game, plot armor carried the story forward, that and random events and violence with no name AIs. I stopped playing 2/3rds of the way through because i was so bored. The best parts of the games are the flashbacks with Ellie being Ellie, and Joel being Joel. This game was so boring, and 7 years later, it has the exact same mechanics as the first and adds nothing new, can be fun, but there's no story and boring ass characters, so it becomes extremely repetative insanely quickly. I constantly found myself wanting to kill Abby (and doing so) just to get back to maybe some interesting part of the game. Hiya!
I know that some people may come to here to find out if the game is worth playing. And to see most of it just be review bombing may be disappointed. So if you're looking to find out, go ahead and give mine a read.

I'll make it very clear that i HAVE NOT PLAYED IT. However, i know what i've seen from the leaks from before release, and these are my first impressions on the game, what it does, and if it's worth it.

To put it short- no. I don't think it is. But, why? Well, let me explain.

I can't speak for the story of the first one- but i get the vibe that it was generally unforgiving, yet held some positive themes, mainly Joel and Ellie's relationship, having someone to care about and protect in a situation like that. At the end of the day, it was unforgiving, but seemed like it had some feel good parts.

2 doesn't have any of that. But that substance isn't placed anywhere else, either. Any enjoyment or any proper theming seems completely lost, in favor of a thin veil of progressiveness that barely, if at all, covers the fact that this game exists for nothing but to revel in the same gratuitous violence that the rest of the industry does, whilst also getting to insult their players.

I'm not usually the Anti-SJW kind- in fact, i'm typically the complete opposite, I'm INCREDIBLY liberal, in fact. However, that just means that i can tell you for a god damned fact that there isn't a message or a theme here. It's violence. Violence and pain without end- that's what this game exists for. If it was about teaching the impacts of violence, and involved some kind of conscience, it could have easily gone the route of, say, Undertale- giving you the option to do the right thing and rewarding you for not being a violent and murderous lil **** Rewarding you for doing the right thing is infinitely better than punishing you for NOT doing so- yet TLOU2 does only the latter.

It had any number of ways to confront this issue, and yet chose only the most basic and effortless way to do so, almost as if they had no care for the issue they were portraying. Which is exactly the truth.

On the progressive front, i've heard people- like Rich, of ReviewtechUSA- complimenting the game's inclusivity. When frankly, that couldn't be further from the truth. Naughty Dog was clearly so blindsided by the money that they could have been making, that they literally ballsed up the entire operation. You wanna know how? They wanted to give the game some kind of trans inclusivity. How did they do that? By making ALL the women ugly, so that the trans women could see themselves fitting in there. I- Uh, Naughty Dog, coming from a trans person, do you realise by doing that you're just calling ALL trans people ugly? You know, the exact opposite of your goal? Kinda a stupid move there, guys. Just sayin'.

At the end of the day, from an outsider's perspective, someone who really didn't have a bias for or against the TLOU series, TLOU2 is honestly a crash course in corporate greed. What was once a labour of love and a series that had passion and care put into it, which gave it the massive, adoring fanbase it had, is now no different to any other AAA game series- revelling in excessive violence for the sake of excessive violence, and pandering to people in the worst, most badly thought out and most CLEARLY INGENUINE way.

Again, this is an outsider's perspective. You may **** LOVE the game. You may also love sadomasochism, i can't judge!
But, whereas the original had some spark there that, looking back, might have made it worth playing, TLOU2 has nothing. It actively insults the people it tries to support, and indulges itself in the industry's love of blood and gore for no other reason than blood and gore and pain. It exists to exploit minorities by """""supporting""""" them, and for the sake of money, indulges itself in the exact problems with the industry it claims to be 'confronting'.

TLOU2 is, from my perspective, a crash course in the downfall of a developer, thanks to corporate greed.

However, i can't give it, like, a 3 or a 0 like most others have- because it has things going for it still. The gameplay looks somewhat fun, if a little uninspired like every other survival horror zombie-based game. But, i can't say it looks bad.
The game, on top of that, seems stable. It's not a broken mess like some of the WORST games i've played. Though, that SHOULD be the normal expectation but for a mess that was likely rushed and DEFINITELY not thought out in the least, it's a surprise, to say the least [of us].
The graphics are absolutely incredible as well. If nothing else, there WAS some kind of care put into that, even if the animations can look a little janky at times [we all know the meme i mean].

It's not the WORST game ever. But it 100% lacks any kind of spark and passion and is a clear display of a developer dropping to their knees, all for the sake of hitting that green.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is not a 0/10 and sure as hell, not a 10/10. It falls in the middle. The visuals are amazing, probably one of the best looking games ever, Seattle looks amazing with the amount of flora and overgrowth, the world is filled with tiny details that make it feel lived in and alive, despite almost all humans being gone. As good as the visuals are this is a game, where gameplay is king, the gameplay is fine, it's effectively a copy+paste of the controls of the first game which isn't bad but it does have the same clunky feeling from the first title which can hinder gameplay but all in all it's not bad. The gameplay is also interrupted time and time agin by QTE's (quick time events) that don't need to be there, cutscenes in which you have to mash square or hold triangle happen WAY too often making me bored during some parts, it feels like an interactive movie or a walking sim for almost half the game. AI feels like a step down from the first game, they will constantly see you kill their allies and not do anything, and AI partners like Dina just got in the way and didn't really add anything; AI will almost always be seen by enemies and sometimes enemy AI will do nothing, other times they'll detect you and open fire even though you were completely hidden. New additions like prone are very welcome as it allows for a lot of flexibility in combat, the jump, on the other hand, feels almost useless even though it's used throughout the entire game for subpar platforming. The story is where TLOU2 truly falls apart, it begins with an idiotic way to kill off a beloved character, as Angry Joe beautifully said "we don't care that you kill Joel, we care HOW you do it," and it's never been more true. Characters we know make decisions completely out of character, so much that I disliked Ellie by the end of the game. Abby and the WLF are such bad people its difficult to sympathize with any of them, literally every big conflict is started by the WLF, which is sad because Abby's half of the game is easily the best. The set pieces, characters, weapons, abilities, are all so much better than Ellie's, it actually feels more similar to the first game because of the Abby and Lev's relationship and some of the puzzle mechanics. This is a revenge story in which you kill nearly hundreds of people, but not the one person that matters, makes absolutely no sense. The pacing is bad too, constantly taking us out of the moment going through flashbacks, they're fine but as a cohesive unit the story falls flat, I firmly believe if they edited/moved scenes around, the story and game would flow much better. Especially because by the time we get to Abby's 3 days in Seattle, I didn't give a **** about the supporting characters because they're all dead anyway. If it was just Abby's adventures with the SCARS this would be a MUCH better game, Ellie and Joel's additions actually hurt the story. If this was a standalone game within the LOU universe minus Joel and Ellie I'd give a 8.5/10, but its a sequel to one of the most beloved games of all time and does NOT respect it or its characters. Overall I give it a 6/10 but due to the false advertising by NaughtyDog and Sony (Joel's character model switched in the trailers to give the illusion he would play a much bigger role other than plot convenience), I deduct another point. Voice acting top notch, action is there, etc etc. Which unlike a lot of people, I cant make myself give this a 0-3 rating. Its just not that. However, that is where it ends. I absolutely hated the story. Abby is just not a good character no matter how you twist it. She sucks. I have zero interest in a part with involving her. I played the first game once and beat it, enjoyed it, and was happy to see a part two. Man, what a 360 though. Unfortunate the writers decided to take this route, but is what it is. Expand

My favorite thing about this game was the gameplay. It felt really smooth and responsive. It was also one of the most stress inducing games I have ever played. So I really liked playing it, although it started to get repetitive around the end. Also the graphics are beautiful and some of the best I have ever seen. Anyway on the the story.

Before I talk about what I disliked, I'll talk about what I did like. First off I really liked Jesse's character. It was also really nice to see Tommy again. I also like Ellie and Dina's relationship, it was done well, and I liked the open world Seattle portion and finding Nathan Drake's ring in the bank was cool. And lastly the flashbacks with Joel and Ellie were amazing, the guitar scene, museum scene, hotel scene, and Joel admitting that he lied were some of the best scenes in the game. Here's what I didn't like: Joel's death. I'm fine with Joel dying, maybe around the end of the game, but not only does he die in the opening, he gets his head bashed in with a golf club by Abby. Oh and lets get into Abby, I HATED her from the beginning to end. And not only does she kill Joel in the most disrespectful way, you play as her for 10 HOURS. That's HALF the game, and they try to make you like her, but who is going to like after she killed Joel! And I hated playing as her all those 10 hours! It sucks some of the best moments are in Abby's story like the new weapons she gets and the infected boss fight but it was ruined by playing as her. Oh and on top of that you play as ABBY fighting and beating up ELLIE! Enough said. And in the end Ellie lets Abby live, even though every person playing wanted to kill Abby then and there. Everything about Abby just sucked, and it was half the game.

On top of all this, the pacing was bad. We start by playing day 1,2,and 3 as Ellie, it ends with a cliff hanger, play day 1,2,and 3 as Abby, then the ending. It would be better if they took Abby's sections, shortened them and had up play Ellie day 1 then Abby day 1, Ellie day 2 then Abby day 2 and so forth. At least the pacing would be better

Let me just end by saying that I am not a blind hater. I am a huge Naughty Dog fan, I love Crash, Jak and Daxter, Uncharted, and Last of Us. And I was looking forward to this game up until the release day and it was a huge let down. They screwed it up by taking too many risks that did not pay off in the end. My rating would be a 6/10 just because I really enjoyed the gameplay and a few parts of the story, but that plot man...It's like the Last Jedi all over again. I gave it a chance despite of what I heard, and did not like it. I expect more from Naughty Dog.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My problem with TLoU Part 2 is story (I know... weird), but most of characters. This game just feels like a new season for call of duty warzone, even Ellie can be compared to a protagonist of call of duty, she does nothing else then shootin tootin. Story is a total mess because of this all flashbacks, the world presented in TLoU 2 doesn't fit to the world from TLoU 1. Graphics and audio are good. but what bothers me the most is that the music from the first part just works very well in some scenes, but in the second part, there is no music in such scenes, there is only this sound similar to a grenade explosion next to you. I just don't want to play this game, not because the director said so, but because this game is like a circus compared to the first part. And the scene of the death of one of the characters at the beginning of the game (Joel) can be compared to the death of this character if a brick fell on his head at the construction site. Expand

This game is about the story first and foremost. That impacts the structure of the game and replay value.

The gameplay is very solid like a Resident Evil 4. You have a mix of weapons, upgrading and enemy types that gives the game plenty of mileage with mixing up scenarios. Unfortunately the flow of the game is broken up by the narrative being told and gameplay In the world is disjointed

Playing through it was like enjoying a Walking Dead movie. I was into the characters and story but it was something I was fine thinking about for a little bit and then being done with it.
If you’re replaying the game, whether on new game plus or a harder difficulty then I think the enjoyment of the story will continually be diminished. You may as well be watching a gritty zombie film or TV show. And if you’re less interested in the many seeing the many cutscenes more than a few times then you’re left with the solid stealth/action combat that is pretty non-linear. Story is the most important part of this game and takes precedent over everything else.
Overall the game is well crafted in all of the parts that make it up. It’s also very diverse with its cast of characters if that sort of thing matter to you.
I was left a bit bummed by the conclusion of the game but I respected the choices it made as a piece of art on its own. The gameplay was enjoyable but not wholly satisfying due to the game being structured for the story.

And the way you could plan every kill, by either throwing bricks to make some enemies go away from one specific or to plant mines to kill off the stronger enemies while you silently take out the others. From me sitting scared during the clickers. But, sadly the story did not have it in for me. The chemistry between the new and the old characters did not feel good at all. I believe that the story could have been way better if everything was in a different order, I felt that I did not care much to play as Abby at all since Ellies part left uss at a huge cliff-hanger so I kept thinking about that instead of actually caring. If we played Abby first maybe it would have been better since we would have gotten more attatched to her characters when we later on took them down as Ellie. If they could have put it all in a different order in my opinion this would have at least have been a 7 out of 10. Expand

The story is boring I will be honest I don't like at all it is nowhere near as compelling as the first BUT I did like the gameplay and Ellie... Until the halfway point when the game does the whole switcheroo and the game becomes extremely repetitive with unlikable characters and even more bland story pieces.

Even Ellie becomes just plain stupid and does things that just make no sense or feel seriously out of character for her?

I am honestly so let down that the game nose dives into mediocre at the half way mark as I honestly enjoyed my time in the first half I understand people are review bombing this game but I gave the game a fair shot and even finished it. It is such a shame as the first is regarded as one of PlayStations greats! Even I gave it a 8! for Solid story but repetitive gameplay.

I personally never felt The Last of Us ever needed a sequel and my opinion was correct at least for some. If you enjoy the game more power to you but I feel this is a out of pace mess.

Neil however then decides to question my intelligence by seeing another perspective when I already understood it, just by reading WLF notes you can see these are not the evil bandits like you encountered in the first game, these are actual people with communities like Jackson, I can sympathise with them, but Neil doesn't think that's enough. He had a good emotional thing going but then scratches it all by throwing in unnecessary extra storyline of people that are no worse or better, if anything, seeing the long extra perspective of other characters, I just ended up disliking them more than I did in the beginning.

The game suffers greatly from the massive portion of it you don't play as Ellie, so don't buy it if you want it for just that, because at LEAST a third of the game, you're not Ellie, and after finally reaching the end of that portion you get into a boss battle you wanted no part of and didn't need to be there, you could've gotten to the exact same conclusion without making you do it. The game then has problems to know when to end and feels Neil just threw in several pitched endings at went with all of them. I'd rate it higher if you played more as the character that was advertised, Ellie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To those who are wondering if they should buy this game, I pose these questions. Do you care about Ellie and Joel? Do you want to find out what happens after TLOU1? It's honestly that simple of a question, ignore all the spoilers out there, and put politics aside. Do you want to see this story concluded? If the answer is yes, stop reading reviews on the internet and go play the game.

Before I begin, I would like to caveat that I played this game to its full completion, all the way until the title screen of the game changed to a new backdrop. Further proof that I've played the game to completion is the fact that I know that when you complete the game, you do not have enough points to unlock all the collectible models, and you must go back into New Game+ mode to finish the collection. This is not a review bomb, this is an honest opinion.

I have 4 major issues with The Last of Us Part II: Narrative Pacing, Character Development, Multiplayer, and finally yes, Politics. Each of these reasons is why I have taken four points away from a perfect 10/10 review score. Before you read or stop reading any further, I am not a politically charged person. I don't identify as left or right on our political spectrum, I probably align closest to center. Why does that need to be mentioned in a review of a video game? Because this is a politically charged game.

This game plays wonderfully. The stealth mechanics, the fast crafting, the animations and trigger-able mid-combat action sequences are second to none. The stealth is nuanced and deep, with the ability to prone through grass and create distractions for zombies and humans alike-- with each faction of enemy responding differently to signs of your presence. I could go on about what I love about the gameplay, but I am limited by 5,000 characters.

The game is so gripping in fact that when I finished the final chapters of TLOU2, I was left wanting more. I was still craving the combat loop that pulled me throughout the game, despite what I didn't like about the narrative choices. in TLOU2, there is no online multiplayer component, and no matter how you feel about the story and conclusion of TLOU2, you have no opportunity to relish in the positive aspects of the game in a multiplayer environment. And that is where I am truly saddened. because I cannot enjoy the game further in what I believe would be a crazy awesome multiplayer sandbox.

In TLOU2, they opted to tell a non-linear story, choosing to show you the most distressing and emotionally shocking scenes up front in the first hour of the game. The main reason this game is so polarizing is because they murdered a beloved character by the hands of a relatively unknown character, and then forced you to play her immediately afterwards. This narrative framing was foolish. TLOU2 made me hate Abby the moment she took stage, and made every single moment the game forced me to control her a grating and unenjoyable experience. I literally leapt off cliffs, the moment I was able to control Abby. When I got to the first fight with Abby and Ellie, I could hardly bring myself to fight Ellie, and I let Ellie kill me at every passing opportunity because I couldn't believe Naughty Dog was forcing me to kill Ellie. When the scene finally concluded and Abby "spared" Ellie, I was sick to my stomach. If the game was ordered differently, maybe making you play the Abby sections first, and then switch to Ellie at the latter half, maybe I would have been more motivated from Abby's POV. But the way this narrative was framed made me hate every moment I was playing as Abby.

I also drew issues with the interactions between Dina and Ellie. I didn't buy the emotional connection between the two, and honestly the lovey dovey scenes between them made me feel uncomfortable, as they seemed shallow and poorly developed. This has nothing to do with homophobia, as I was excited to see Ellie develop a love interest, and I really enjoyed the cute Ellie and Riley dynamic from Left Behind, a TLOU1 DLC adventure. And when Tommy was so angry with Ellie after settling down with a family, I felt that wholly unbelievable, and it ruined Tommy as a character. Finally with Owen, his character was likeable, but they made him a scumbag in the end, refusing to take care of his own knocked-up girlfriend Mel, and instead chasing after Abby in a self-destructive lust fueled fashion.

Which leads me into my final issue with the game, the identity politics, the intentional non-inclusion of likable male characters, and how in-your-face it all is. I don't have enough room to talk about the specifics of these points, which are arguably the most important. But if you do not like having self-righteous political statements thrown in your face, you will not like the main story beats of this game.

I wish TLOU2 had ordered their narrative differently and let up off the gas with the political undertones, because this would have been a more enjoyable game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First 15 hours were great and seemed to justify killing Joel as it was folding out into a great story.
Playing as Abby changed that though. I felt forced to like her and feel sorry for her which I just didn't. I didn't care about anything that happened to her because Ellie is the character I, and everybody else, was connected to and the reason this game was purchased.
To make matters worse you then want me to play as Abby and try to kill Ellie?? I let Ellie kill me and it claimed I failed the mission even though that's what I wanted to happen! I thought the ending may make it all worthwhile but it didn't. Abby was let free by Ellie, Dina left her and Ellie lost fingers in the process! It made me incredibly sad and angry that Joel was killed off for such a poor story and for no reason at the end.
If Joel REALLY had to die, I would have preferred it to be via a bite and Ellie has to search for a new doctor to make the cure and sacrifice herself to save Joel from becoming infected OR kill Joel herself.

The gameplay is fine however the story disregards the last game. It really feels like aside from character names we were playing an unrelated story because the characters were different and not so much time has passed that this would make sense. The game is also to long. It should have ended sooner than it did.

The graphics are beautiful. The scenery is well depicted and animation is smooth.

However, there are two areas that kill the experience. The linear ‘no choice’ gameplay. You don’t make any moral choices, nothing impacts outcomes. Whatever you do has no effect on the story or whichever character you are playing. This game deserves to be an open world epic in the style of the Witcher. If you wanted to make people think about actions and consequences you should have been able to make moralistic choices and seen a variety of outcomes. Ideally, you should have been able to play as a variety of characters in a big open world and seen how their stories intertwined with multiple endings that are created by your choices. Instead we are bludgeoned over the head with a needlessly nihilistic story that allows the player only to react to choices made by the designer.

The representation with the game is a bold choice but poorly handled. It feels like a checklist of minority groups and therefore tokenism. The violence and sexual scenes add nothing but provocation to less open minded people and they devalue the experience as a whole. Overall, it’s a AAA game with mechanics from 2014 and a storyline that gives players no choice but to be preached at rather than organically evolve their own morality. In short it’s a $15 one time experience.

Having played through the game, there's no question that the game is a technical masterpiece. The beautiful sprawling landscapes just remind me of the awful labor practices that must have been utilized to build such a detailed and ultimately useless world. Sure, the stadium that took 400 man hours to build is beautiful, for the 2 seconds you walk through it.

    The gameplay is dated.

Sure, the stadium that took 400 man hours to build is beautiful, for the 2 seconds you walk through it.

The gameplay is dated. This is a mediocre stealth game at best that would have been innovative 10 years ago and is now cliche at best. The animations are stunning but more often than not you're stuck in some luxurious animation while a clicker kills you from behind. It's boring.

Not to get too long, but the story is not misplaced for this audience. A harrowing tale about revenge and all the miseries that go along with it might have worked great in a smaller title or with a different genre of gameplay. On one hand you're supposed to be learning about the horrible consequences of your actions, but then you're supposed to be having fun murdering people? It's bad juxtaposition.

Lastly, the writing is sub par. While for a video game the topics are mature and well handled, the writing is unbelievable. The dialogue is forced and the relationships between the characters are worse than on the Big Bang Theory.

All in all, this is not a fun game and it's not a worthy piece of art. It's a sub par, boring game that is trying desperately to be relevant when all it should be trying to be is fun.

Combat and move aspect is similar to the first game with few changes like jump mechanic and different arsenal, which is to say that it's not anything too special. Graphics are one of bigger improvements when it comes to the previous game, however I and some others have noticed visual bugs like weapons overlaying with one another or some objects like crates or cargo visuals not loading in cause you are too far away...but you are using a sniper any you can't even see those visuals with that if they are far away, resulting in you thinking you missed a shot but you actually hit an "invisible cargo" or something similar to it.
Sountracks and sound effects are very well made and fit the atmosphere. That is one improvement compared to the first game that I can give with an ease.
Enemies are also well designed. Humans call each other by name and are somewhat smart when it comes to scouting and trying to eliminate you. I also like the fact that there are many ways of taking an enemy out and visuals of that are very well made.
Story wise is definitely not this games best side from my perspective. Characters in game felt like they were making irrational decisions or were doing an opposite of what they did before for no well given reason. Their designs are well made and you do end up caring for them (as long as they didn't do something to make you not care for them, which does happen for some). Which is a shame since for most of them when they are done with their part in the story, it doesn't leave you with any satisfaction. Like they were just there for the sake of being there, not contributing to the main story whatsoever.
So short to say: Gameplay was ok, sound was awesome, graphics were improved, foes were alright, story was poor and so were the characters.

The game comes with it's fair share of issues, the first that i ran into was animation skipping or jumping (Game skips frames of animation during cutscenes or action that are taken like pushing open a door, hopping over cars or tables. the second issue i had when playing the game is with Melee and hand-to-hand combat, the camera freaks out and you lose control of the camera if you dodge while moving the right stick sometimes. the 3rd issue i ran into was texture glitches, parts of flowing water were Yellow when flowing and i frequently saw wall and fire textures glitching all over the place. thats pretty much it for issues based on what i saw. The Story was kinda Convoluted at times, for example why have Lev go to the Seraphites island to talk to his mother knowing full well what that outcome was gonna be, or why have Tommy be alive when he was clearly shot in the head (to me it looked like he got hit directly). but to end off this review, i would like to give this game a 6.5 to a 7 out of 10. But where the game falters is in its story and character development. First off, a lot of sections of the earlier parts of the game feel unnecessary and pointless, used to just pad out the playtime of the game. That's okay in some parts, but others just make it too obvious. Also, some of the strange choices made by Joel and Elle during this game makes you question how the hell they survived this long? They definitely seemed to show better judgment in the first game when it comes to who to trust. Also, a lot of parts of the game where you are put in the shoes of our new characters, Abby, to show us events from a different perspective. She actually has some pretty interesting sections and is kind of fun to play as, but there are obvious reasons during the game that makes players apprehensive to playing as Abby for the rest of the game after a specific moment in the first few hours of the game. Also, Elle seems to be a lot less "likeable" this time around because of her interactions with Joel and her choices in later sections of the game, specifically the ending conflicts. But I'm not going to over explain, if I were rating on gameplay and graphics alone, it would be a 10/10. But story and characters acting somewhat out of character, definitely pulls it down. If you base your opinion on the first half of the game, it's probably 10/10.
The gameplay is insane. The acting is insane. The graphics are insane.
Even while some people hate the fact that Joel is kiled the way he is, I think it makes sense at the end of the day. I hate it too, and I wish we could've had way more time with him.
But considering we get heartbreaking flashbacks later in the game, it makes up for it.

But when we reach a climax of the story halfway into the game, only to have it become a cliff-hanger for 10+ hours, as we play Joel's killer.. Boy does the game dip in quality.
The fact that I'm supposed to care about this character is insulting.
Spoiler alert, I didn't **** care. I was frustrated and bored.
The gameplay tanked as a result as well. I didn't feel invested in what I was doing anymore, so why bother trying to survive? I didn't like this story, so why not just rush through it?

In the last act of the game, as we go back to Ellie, the story does get pulled back to what's important and I found myself enjoying the game again. And while people hate the ending, I kind of liked it, because it did feel like closure.
And while I hated playing as Abby and still hold on to that, it may have contributed to the fact I was okay with letting her go. Since Ellie did win the fight, and could've killed her right then and there.

First part of the game: 10/10
Second part of the game 4/10
Third part of the game 8/10
    Overall: 7.5

    Gameplay: 9/10
    Graphics:10/10
    Acting:10/10

But the story really suffered from Abby's segments, and it was an idiotic thing to force players to play.

First off there are way too many 0's and 1's 0-3 to me mean the game is unplayable either due to bugs or being completely broken which this game is not. 4-6 means 1 of 2 things to me either the game is playable yet buggy with ok story or its got good game play and **** story and 6-9 either means the game plays great and the story is ok to good or the game is worth playing for story aloneFirst off there are way too many 0's and 1's 0-3 to me mean the game is unplayable either due to bugs or being completely broken which this game is not. 4-6 means 1 of 2 things to me either the game is playable yet buggy with ok story or its got good game play and **** story and 6-9 either means the game plays great and the story is ok to good or the game is worth playing for story alone even with its bugs and lackluster gameplay and a 10 well i honestly believe no game is a 10. A 10 in my opinion means it doesn't matter who you are what you like this game is 100% for you and nothing is that. I feel like this game is just getting review bombed because people are mad without actually playing. The game looks sounds and plays great even if the story is trash it deserves minimum 4 or 5, I think personally its about a 7it isnt amazing yet i have could see that it needs some story improvements especially taking into account the forst game. At least play it and decide for yourself Expand

This game is no masterpiece but is also not a piece of **** people are too hard on this game, I'd say wait for a sale or something if you want to play for the story
the gameplay is the same but slightly more polished and smooth if you liked the gameplay of the previous one you won't have any problems with this.
level design is bigger and is really enhanced with great graphics and set

the audio design is also wonderful and also really adds a lot to the game.
Sorry if this is messy and isn't clear

It's a fine game. The graphics, animations, sounds are great. The story and gameplay are not so much. It varies too much and the characters motives don't make sense. I constantly disagreed with what was happening and the game never gave me a choice as the player. I could just have watched this as a movie or a very drawn out series and I would've probably fell asleep and abandoned it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Didn't get why they would make us play as the character who killed Joel within the first hour of the game. We didn't wait all these years to play as other characters... graphics were really good and gameplay was fun Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
