It is the first time in a major title I just couldnt keep playing and having to endure the laboured over-wrought story line. That the writers basically tried to tick every woke inclusive box and as a result this required to play through a lesbian romance and as either a slim lesbian or hulking butch brawler, sealed my disappointment with a game I had been anticipating for a number of years. As a result I wont be playing any 3rd iterations of what was once an incredible franchise. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm not bothered by the woke aspect of the game, i'm not bothered with the big event that happens in the beginning of the game. But I think the game is a failure. The game tries too hard to question the apology of violence and always punish the player to play the game as it is intended. "My dad has been murdered ? why not kill like 1000 persons to get my revenge ! And at the end let's spare the killer because i am not a monster !" Ridicule. The second playthrough with Abby is absolutely useless because She and Ellie are at the same state before and after that part of the game. No character development whatsoever. I didn't want Ellie to kill Abby, worse, I prefer Abby over Ellie because her life has been ruined by Ellie/Joel at so many levels. So no, Abby is not the problem for me. Joel had to pay in some way. Tommy and Ellie vengeance is uncalled for and the characters keep makind bad decisions over and over again. When Joel went berserk at the end of the first game it was understandable, relatable (although overkill) . Here ? not so much. The game punishes us for what it forces us to do. The game is wonderful though and polished to the extreme. The gunfights/stealth are also good. Expand

Combat and visuals were good but the story just felt dragged out and they tried to pull more out of the story that was from the first game to try and make another successor to it. And in some ways it did good with the variety of weapons and npcs to fight. But otherwise the story was okay and just didn’t really live up to what I thought they could have done. It’s not worth a “3” I think it deserves higher. As someone who is a member of the LGBT community it did also feel like they focused on including more LGBT characters then what was needed. And most of the characters didn’t really have an impact on me when playing. I do hope they add a dlc or multiplayer. Expand

Extraordinary world, gameplay, graphics, music and sound - but story is, hm pointless. After all Its hard to understand actions of Ellie. I've spent great 30 hours in best looking world ever but story is too stupid. I thought that it will be easily best game of PS4 but it is not. Still one of the best.

Discarding in a humiliating way the best character in a game, leaving him stupid and careless is revolting to say the least! I just don't give zero because the technical part is very good! Neil Druckman, the only thing you got was to make this game forgettable!

Unfortunately, it's the story in The Last of Us: Part II that is it's biggest weakness. At the core of Part II is a revenge plot, which in and of itself is not issue. It's that through it's the games 25+ hour of gameplay, it fails to come to a satisfying conclusion. What is here are character decisions that are entirely at odds with what was presented of the characters in both the 2013 original and through most of the 2020 sequel.

This game and your enjoyment will ultimately hinge on this games conclusion. You will either come out of this thinking The Last of Us: Part II is another masterpiece or a rare miss by Naughty Dog. For me The Last of Us: Part II is arguably my most disappointing game of this generation.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A game about vengeance and why people do what they do.

I wont lie, the major flaws are the time jumping, character swapping, and the game is a slog for 2/3's of it's length. There are long sections where your AI partner doesn't say anything to keep you engaged (unlike the dynamic Joel and Ellie had in the first entry)
It is very dry, dark, and not "fun" to play but that's part of the plot.

I think my only major dislike is Dina, this is not a happily ever after lesbian story... as Dina is not even really lesbian anyway. Her motives and intentions are not made clear until the final act. She was never meant to be the one for Ellie, and it's pretty noticeable when Jesse arrives at the theatre that Dina likes men more. She's literally a flaky, scummy person.
Do I like the angle? Not really, but once you get the full context. It's tolerable.

(In closing, the negative reviews must have been from people that have played an entirely different game)

    THE BAD:
-Very HEAVY with political agenda related to LGBTQ and FEMINISM. Too much SJW stuffs that are being forcefully slammed onto players' faces.
-Really MESSY in terms of pacing and story direction; it jumbles in and out with flashbacks, the flashbacks are ALL OVER the place.
-Unrewarding ending, no joy and satisfaction felt after done 30+hours playing it.

    THE CONCLUSION:
-The game could be (kinda?) saved actually if Neil Druckmann made the game into THREE DIFFERENT STORY MODES rather than combining Ellie's and Abby's stories altogether in one single playthrough. So the first playthrough would be "Ellie's Story", the second playthrough would be "Abby's Story", and the final playthrough would be "Redemption", or "Conclusion".
-The game is only worth for RENTING, not buying. If you haven't play the 1st TLOU and just want to straight dive in to TLOU 2, then just RENT IT, don't buy it.
-If you collect video games, and you want to add TLOU Part 2 to your collection, be my guest, but it's cheaper to buy the SECOND HAND one. It's not worth the full price.

Fa riflettere, fa provare emozioni forti. Finally done and got the platinum. As an initial impression. I honestly found this game disappointing and inferior compared to the first title.

    *Story - 2/10
    - With how the story was TLOU1's greatest strength, this is TLOU2's weakest. First, this game showed one of the worst introduction in the game. It showed out of personality from one of its main characters and gave us one of the most disrespectful deaths you would ever see in a game. It could have been much much better but feels too rushed to cater the devs claim of "shock" factor. Moreover, many of the new npc or side character are uninteresting, awful, stupid and is just introduced in the game as a fodder to increase the meaningless death counts that will happen as you progress towards in the end. Regardless such a mess of a writing uncharacteristic of Naughty Dog. Compared to other previous ND games, this game also has some bad pacing in its story and gave an ending which will make you really feel you wasted your time. Beware!

    *Gameplay - 7/10
    - Showing nothing worthwhile new or fresh, the game is still your typical third person shooter with stealth mechanics. The upgrades are still there as well as the gears and customized gadgets. a few new enemies like the dogs and shamblers were introduced but does not really that significant to be considered improving the gameplay. The fact that the gameplay still feels smooth is the only reason its a 7.

    *Graphics - 10/10
    - Although this does not show really beautiful scenery like RDR2 or God of War, its character details and design is where its strengths are. To repeat every model in this is detailed from head to toe, the wounds, the veins, the dirt and the wrinkles in every body of each of its character can be seen. A beautiful and artistic game indeed.

    *Sound - 10/10
    - The sound, music and voice acting of the game is still top notched. The actors are superb in delivering their speeches, the music is fitting for every place you see in the game (I also really like guitar minigames) and the sound of its signature clicker are still very scary and disturbing.

    Overall - 7/10

Although a still pretty much great game, this game pales in comparison with its first title due to how awful its story is. I don't really mind the diversity of its cast but the execution of its main plot could have been done in different orders which in my opinion could have made the game much much better. Sad that after 7 years this is the game I got. Regardless, it is done and like always, we need to move on hoping the next title will redeem this franchise.

The new characters are dull and boring. There is no character development. The story is something a 3rd grader could write. There is an effort to throw in every type of person and it feels forced.

I could rant for a small eternity about the story but I'm trying not to, since currently I'm erasing this game from my head so I can always remember TLoU as it was, a masterpiece.
I wouldn't buy this game again, solely because of the story but if you don't care about the story in a single-player story game then sure go get it but if you need a story to follow then don't buy it especially if you played TLoU.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game doesn't deserve less than a 5 and anyone who is doing so without explaining in great detail about why is not a real fan of the last of us. Most of these reviews were put up before anyone could have finished the game. The plot ties together nicely during the end. I understand the game is a bit of a grind but it's got great action. Great environments. Stunning scenery. Ok writing, not great, but not trash. People giving the game a 0/10 should be ashamed to call themselves fans, This game ties in a lot with the first one and offers a lot of closure. The worst part about the writing is how obsolete most of the characters become other than Dina and abby. (and even Dina is pretty obsolete ) The game doesn't handle pacing well, but if you enjoy the pace then it's great. The unique enemy fights are a treat as I found myself freaked out more than once, especially when that blob thing in the hospital attacked us.

I am mildly dissapointed in the easter eggs. Abby only finds coins mainly and for the majority of the game there is a bunch of letters left from people who have died or relocated. Not many of them were a good read, mostly I was looking for safe codes, but a few were actually nice to read. Ellie's collectibles come in the form of trading cards, which is okay, but I don't really understand them. I much preferred the original collecting of comic books as those were more in my interests. Perhaps Ellie could have collected video game discs? Or old boxes for video games.

Playing as abby at the start was pretty meh, but her character really does improve and develop to the point where I found myself supporting her. Not to say she's ok, she's a monster like Ellie.

    And Ellie is a badass.

I've wrote for two hours on word for this game and word decided to crash so **** it, here is a retarded, poorly written version of what i wanted to say

The biggest problem is that the game is trying hard to make you feel in certain way... The problem it did not worked on many people. The game is violent, like gorefest for no reason, tries really hard to make you want revenge and then show you as bad and Abby as good, you then play the other half of the game playing Abby, and it's shows how much of a good person she is compared to Joel.

The game is painful to play, there is no pay off, the game literally spits you on the face, have no respect for the character that you love.

Apparently, Neil Druckman saw a video when he was younger where he saw a man get beaten. He got mad, disgusted and wanted to destroy the people that, he wanted REVENGE, after the first game he thought that he could make other people feel like that about Abby and then prove them that the bad one was you all along and that the revenge gets you nowhere.

But what Neil didn't saw coming I guess is that most of the people did not care if we were bad or not, we just cared about the characters that we loved, so the ending sounds and look cheap when you only wants to kill her. Other like me just lost all interest after seeing Joel getting destroyed (I finished it but did not care about anything after that).

The game and the message just do not work.

But one of the biggest problems is that all the problems and questions set by the first game about the world, characters, city, sickness, the cure... Just got ignored. After playing the last of us 2 for 20h the world and stories and everything around didn't move. It's just some drama about some people and all the important question are just ignored.

This is coming from someone who considered the first one their second favorite game only following Uncharted 4. Critics are praising it for the same reason it's getting bombed by the users, the politics. But in reality, it's a subpar effort and a failure of writing. Bad pacing, loss of focus, takes a massive turd on the first game. And throws in some cliche trops like the museum and the wounded animal bits to make up for the bad writing. Reminds me of spiderman 3, except it's worse because it's following The Last of Us. Disappointing. Expand

There are many reasons to love this game, while there are many reasons to hate this game. Thus 6/10. The inconsistent characters, weird turning points in the plot, and bad pace in story telling ruined something that's supposed to be a master piece.

Fallout 4 is the template they needed with this story. Great customization and mini games in case you hate the main story. Im glad I read the leaks because I may have broken my PS4 after completing this. I will say great graphics--less a few NPC's and I think they were trying to make everyone ugly so mission accomplished I guess; great voice acting; great score; gameplay 8s fine if you enjoyed the first; but be prepared for abysmal story decisions. One thing though I can say, the environments are very monoton, boring, repetitive. Aside from the start and the ending of the game, it is basically played in Seattle, with the same lighting and weather, and this breaks my heart. It is no Uncharted where you visit 10 places in 15 hours. This makes this game somewhat repetitive, boring. And I am very sorry for that. I did not enjoy this as much as I did the first game, or any other Uncharted game. I was always waiting for the “next level” but it never came.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A poorly paced, badly written, with constant strange design choices accompanied by little innovation on the original.

For example an early 'open' section which is a one off (when I felt it was going to be like Metro Exodus) and then back into holding your hand. Taking control away from the player seems like it gets worse throughout.

Chooses to focus on non interesting characters than the scars and that would be interesting to learn more about or even play as.

So many oddities that it seems like several different people wrote and designed sections without direction or communication with their director.

Ruins everything built in the first story with a fairly unlikable Ellie, absent Joel, limited interaction with previous characters and bland new characters that again are hard to give a damn about.

Strange edits and time jumping which is always poor story design and lacks the coherency of the 'road trip' feeling of the first game. You can 'feel' cut content whilst also not sure if certain sections should be in the game in the first place. Would have been stronger being 5-10 hours shorter.

Poor lighting in parts and not the best HDR which seems like a simulation.

All good games should have one thing in mind at development stage...'Is this fun' and sorry but no, this isn't always fun (If I have to hold triangle again I'll freak out)

Naughty Dog are better than this.

Great graphics, probably the best looking game on PS4. Hollow, repetitive, clichè story that assumes the player is an idiot. Misleading trailers just to subvert expectations, virtue signalling forced in to the narrative.

I understand what Naughty Dog were going for, trying to incorporate the bleakness of real life in to the game, where there’s no heroes, no happy endings, no adventure.

But, people play games for heroes and adventure, this is the wrong medium for these views. People play games for escapism, not to be lectured like a documentary.

What should have been GOTY, fails to be a good 'game'. The story fails, the gameplay, while an improvement on the first game, didn’t improve enough.

This game just reeks of missed potential, what should have been ‘Breaking Bad’ turned out to be ‘Game of Thrones Season 8’ or the new Star Wars movies.

    What a shame.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gotta say i was expecting more, despite what actors and sony said the leaks did leak a lot of the game, the main thing that annoyed me was Melee combat once you get hit your stuck getting hit unless you have a shiv/knife or you can somehow hit the dodge button perfectly cause if you time it wrong you will get hit before you complete the dodge or right after, it annoys me so much that 3 enemy encounters were focused around this and a block button would have served a better purpose since our enemies can block. The story is also just revenge after revenge, ellie comes to try and get revenge on abby after abby came to get revenge on joel, then abby comes to get revenge on ellie but decides not to and then ellie in her PTSD riddled mind decides to go try and get revenge on abby again. Like what the hell the last game was about Joel and ellie bonding in an abandonded world as they try to bring her to the only people that can rid the world of the infected and how joel decides that he cares too much about ellie to sacrifice her, but no this game is all revenge theres no survival and the only bonding done is in the last 5-6 hours of a game that took me 40 hours to complete. They try to make you feel bad for abby but i feel more pain for those that travel with her later on in the game as they are stuck on the run with her due to one of them making some bad decisions. Ellie just straight pissed me off to much with how she treats her friends and those close to her the only good moments i found with her were in playable flashback moments that take place just after the first game and just before the beginging to this one. Another point of annoyance is how hard it is to aim woth any weapon theres so much sway you'd think that the characters were infected like ellie and abby have been suvivng for how long and been training to shoot for how long yet they cant keep a steady arm, and that sex scene is just plain unnecessary sony censors other games for less and yet they allowed this and that just pisses me off. The only great positive the game has is Graphics and detail in animations the game looks beautiful and the detail in some of the animations with no clipping or stutter is amazing its just a shame that its all wasted here. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    The Good
The gameplay is phenomenal. its buttery smooth and ellie/abby controls beautifully. There are no problems when playing as either character. The graphics are amazing, visually its the peak of gaming with Ghost of Tsushima rivaling it. the game as it plays is great and what ive come to expect from a naughty dog title. The enemies were clever and it was very fun from a gameplay perspective. The music and audio design was top notch everything i did fit and fit way too well.

    The bad
The story was just bad. It was so bad i almost quit playing the game 3 separate times. I literally went to the home screen. Abbys whole story was ultimately pointless because she brought it upon herself. We are supposed to feel bad for herbut i did not. The relationships this time were not nearly as good as the original. The cast jumped in and out too much to care for them. Switching between abby and ellie was jarring and jumping between the two was just disorienting. I wish they just had 2 separate stories one for ellie and one for abby. I think killing joel was just the wrong route to go. There were so many out of place scenes as well like A FULL ON GOD DAMN SEX SCENE between abby and owen which was thrown in there for no reason. The story was a full on mess and ellie's actions were so bizarre and out of place. The best parts of the game were the flashbacks and that's because the interactions were amazing because joel and ellie have great chemistry and bounce off each other so well. Lev was just a worse ellie i liked him but he was literally just there to try and humanize abby who acts like a monster.

The model for abby looks really bizarre and off. Most women dont look like that unless they are body builders and even then body builders are on special diets to maintain their look and abby looks like she tried to take steroids and male hormones and stopped taking halfway. her young design is good and looks like a real person. her older design looks like somebody's fanfic character in this game also burritos would definitely not make you look that way. even real soldiers do not look like that. It felt like they finished ellies section but thought the game was too short and decided to create a whole scenario for abby the antagonist. literally lev is ellie just as a boy. they literally took joel from the first game and made abbie a clone of him. Also those stats and gains you made from the story are gone when you first get to abby modern day. so 15 hours in they expect you to start from scratch. It made me consider quitting the game. Also really shes punching zombies come on thats just dumb.

The ending was also just not fun. It literally felt like they put it there so they could try and show abby is redeemed. Ellie enters an armed compound with tons of people just to fist fight abby who is being held prisoner and being tortured by the people in the compound and its dumb. The whole story is terrible. not only that the character relationships were all over the place and i could attached to any of the characters. They had too many characters and really the only ones i remember well were dina and ellie and owen and abby which both were poorly done and i did not care for. Overall the story is bad and boring and for a story driven game thats half the fun.

Overall this game is a game that is good gameplay wise but abysmally bad in its storytelling. If you are looking for a story driven game. I would just play the first one because its perfect and did not need a sequel especially one this bad storywise. Its a very good game, gameplay wise but gameplay for a story driven game is only half of the game. story is also important and it flops on that.

Its not a 1/10 no the game is very playable and smooth but it screwed up the story so bad i can't go higher than 5/10. That's what i give this game its a game that plays amazingly but the story needed a complete rewrite its that bad.

Story is awful and awkward, do not want to throw spoilers but believe me, story doesn't make any sense regarding the characters we know from TLOU in the events that unfolds here, also new characters are just swallow except by the antagonist (villain?), Abby, but man, you won't like this character, not because she has such muscles or she is vile, nope, you won't like her because her story in TLOU 2 is just absurd as it unfolds, at beginning make some sense, but then it's just inconsistent, same goes for Ellie.
Game at first glance is shocking but as it unwinds some things becomes obvious and other plains simple doesn't make any sense. Abby character is affected by a kind of what I call Kylo Ren syndrome, SW fans will get it.

Gameplay mechanics and Art is 10.
    Story is barely a 3.
Screwing TLOU saga in the second part (Who knows?), 0.
I'm not averaging here, overall for me is 6. You must play it if you like TLOU but most probably you will get disappointed after the end and not wanting a third part, for me TLOU ended in the first game.

WTF moment bonus spoiler plus: Really Ellie, Dina and JJ enjoying a beautiful, charmful and peaceful life in a farm that seems extracted straight from "Little House on the Prairie", in middle of a brutal and ruthless post apocalyptic pandemic no man's world? This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros:
    - Presentation and music were stellar
    - I liked Abby more than I thought, I will go so far and say she is a good character. I can’t blame her for being pissed at Joel. She also was kind and funny.
    - Gameplay is the best naughty dog has made. Not a big evolution, but I think they’ve reached the pinnacle of this type of gameplay
    - the Ellie segments when she was alone were well done in terms of mystery, tone, pacing, and story
    - Rat king fight was great
    - The segment when Ellie first gets to Seattle and it’s open exploration. That was **** cool.
    - the final resort area with Ellie I had had a lot of fun with actually

    Cons:
    - The supporting cast was awful. The scar siblings were so boring and I honestly hated their entire storyline. Dina and Jesse just couldn’t match the banter Ellie and Joel had in the first game. They were not that developed, thus I didn’t really care for them. Abby’s friends suffered a similar fate of just being underdeveloped. I didn’t really care for them at all.
    - Abby’s storyline just felt like a lot of padding. Abby was a good character imo and I understood her motivations, but it just felt we were dancing around the bush in her storyline just waiting for Ellie to show up. The scar siblings storyline took up the majority of her story and it was just an average rescue story involving characters I thought were bad
    - Revenge being the theme of the story. It was fine, but I didn’t find it mind blowing or anything like that. It really lets you know revenge is bad at every corner for better or worse. After I got over the initial shock of playing Abby, I didn’t think the change up in the story was that impactful. It felt like two games in one. IT SHOULD BE STATED I was spoiled so bad so maybe that initial impact was ruined for me. Honestly it might have been a good thing because I might have dropped it if I played it blind. I was able to accept that I was going to play Abby for so long before playing that I accepted her quicker than I probably would have. So the story and it’s themes were decent, but not groundbreaking like the first game where it developed the bond between Joel and Ellie so well and it showed what people will do for love. That’s hard to top man.
    - Final con is what I alluded to before: the chemistry between the characters is just ok. The dialog and banter between Joel and Ellie was so strong, so coming into this game I actually preferred it when the lead characters were alone because I just thought the dynamic between the other characters were weak.

In terms of the structure of the game, it’s hard to say how it would be improved. I think I would have preferred if we had a journey with Abby from the start to kill Joel. We find him and kill him and then we switch to Ellie before and then go on a journey to kill Abby. That way I would have cared maybe a bit more about Abby's friends and all that. But I understand they wanted to make it dramatic when the switch happened so idk.

Overall, I’d say it was a good game, but not a great game. I’d give it a solid 7/10. I enjoyed my time with it and don’t regret playing, but there was a lot a lot of things that were disappointing and flawed.

The game play didn't change much, which isn't necessarily a bad thing as I love the tense stealth scenes and especially when there's dozens of enemies to beat. But the story was just a back and forth revenge tale that didn't go any where and left me frustrated with the lack of choices. Maybe there's a setup for the Last of Us 3 but for the money I paid I hoped for a better overarching story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

The gameplay is ok. The story sucks balls. Instead of continuing the awesome plot of the first one, Niel **** tries to be bold by referencing today's social issues such as trans and gay. I wanted to see more about how Ellie's immunity to the virus would play out. But, I got nothing. Remember kids, REVENGE IS BAD!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before I start this review, I want to say that I did not look at the leaks. I went in without any prior knowledge of the story. I really wanted to like this game as I loved The last of us Remastered on the PS4 but I couldn’t deny that the characters and story narrative was poorly executed in the Last of us Part 2.

First the good aspects of the game, the gameplay is more of the first game but with new characters, weapons and abilities. I found exploring the city of Seattle fun and exciting. The level design is very well thought out throughout the game and the environments are stunning and unique. I cannot fault the character models as they look movie like. The enemy AI is quite smart as they will flank you often and based upon your current supplies and weapons you can change how you approach a situation for example you could use a brick or bottle to lure zombies to other enemies. The game encourages stealthy gameplay as using weapons will diminish your limited resources. I like this as it helps to build the idea of a post-apocalyptic world where supplies are diminished and humanity it on its last legs. I personally only ran into one bug while playing the game where Ellie clipped through the ground inside a river.

Where the game falls short is in the narrative. I think that Joel’s death could have been set up better. In addition to this, the story gets worse after his death. It devolves into a revenge story where the end will leave you disappointed. The pacing feels off as there is flashbacks within flashbacks I got confused some way into the story. Now the characters which have been a source of controversy I would like to first say that I have no issue with more diverse representation in video games as long as it fits the narrative of the game world and if the characters are built up. An example of this is Abby’s physical build, which feels off in the context of the story, as it is not shown how she develops this build aside from a gym in the game that we never see her in. A lot of the characters feel shoehorned in and very plastic and not memorable. I feel that there should have been more character development especially with Ellie and Dina’s relationship and Owens and Abby’s relationship as it feels forced and awkward.

You spend the second half of the game playing as Abbie who is the main antagonist throughout Ellie’s story. The game tries to make you sympathise with her character and fails. I cared more about Ellie’s story and I wanted to play as her. Another character that does not make sense is Mel she is pregnant, but she gets involved in combat throughout the game where she should be at base as the survival of humanity is very important in this world.

Overall, the gameplay is fun, rewarding and tense in places but the game falls short on the poor narrative and characters.

    - The Last of Us Part 1: We don't even know Joel, but we know that he is a worker on a normal world. World that goes kaboom and the first random persons appearing on the game (a couple with a kid) Joel said "don't stop" to Tommy. From here you started to build a character that don't trust no one and this isn't even in the apocalyptic world we will see.
In another scene Joel sees a man asking for help and he immediately knew it was an ambush.
Joel kills numerous people in Part 1, so he knows that is ass is asking for revenge of someone.
    Joel uses fake names.

    - So Part 2: In middle of the game Abby said she got a lead, suggesting that they don't know where they are, and in any part of the game is showed they know how Joel or Tommy looked like.
But Abby and the group found the town, Joel saves Abby. In the middle of a runaway Tommy had time to make introductions and said their real names. This don't make any sense, Tommy learned from the years in this world to don't do that, he was a firefly, and killed people too, and knew that Joel killed many people.
They go to Abby's hideout and things start to be very bad in terms of contradict character build:
1 - Everyone or many of the Abby's group are with guns in hand, Joel and Tommy leaved theirs on horses.
2 - Joel stands in the middle of all group, a guy that don't trusted a couple with a kid, killed hundreds of people and know how ambushes work.
3 - Tommy again slipped is name, but don't says Joel's name.
4 - If this, for you, is not a shot in the foot of ND, or is a spit on one of the best characters in industry of gaming this is:
5 - Joel standing without a gun, surround by a group he don't know, helpless if something happened said his real name "Joel".

ND, or should I say, Neil Druckman don't give a **** about Joel's character, if this don't prove to you that, this should:

He makes you play half of the game, or even more with the person who killed Joel. But if this is even not enough for you, put it in this perspective: Imagining play half of the game with any daughter, mother, wife, of some random npc or character Joel killed.

Believe when I say that TLOU Part 3, if it comes out, will be a failure. Because now ND and Neil Druckman can't put Abby's character on the trash can, so or you will have to play with her again or they don't bring her in the third game and that will be another shot on the foot because you literally made a game around her and now you toss her out so people will question "why do you did that in Part 2 and know Abby isn't even here?"

I'm not saying that Joel didn't deserved to die or that I wouldn't accept that he dies. But you do it without breaking is character core and definitely don't force fans to have to play half of the game with his killer.

It is a very difficult task to live up to the lofty standards that the first Last of Us set. Whilst the sequel is a very solid game, it has multiple flaws that don't make it that Game of the Year / Greatest Game of all time contender.

For the positives, the graphics for this game are beautiful. They are up there with Red Dead Redemption 2 for the best graphics that I have seen in a video game. Another positive for me was Abby. I felt like Abby's story progressed a lot further than Ellies and I felt like I could understand her motives for what she did.

My main gripe with the game is Ellie herself, I felt that she took a step back from what made her so great in the first game. She lost her sense of humour, and was reduced to a bitter former shell of herself. I didn't enjoy her sections as much and her dialogue was rather dry and boring. If it wasn't for Dina keeping some element of humour in the levels, it could have been worse.

My other issue is the clunky combat. I have never really been a fan of Naughty Dog's combat system. The combat feels clustered and tedious. The enemy AI is also ridiculously funny as they can't even see me from directly in front of them.

Last of Us Part 2 is a good game and it definitely has some strong elements that keep it engaging. But my dislike for Ellie in this game and the clunky combat keep me from giving this game a higher score. It is a good game but definitely not game of the year, FF7 Remake, Doom Eternal, and Animal Crossing all rate higher for me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll get the negatives out of the way. The game was repetitive. You find yourself surrounded by infected and you die. You try again. You die. The game dumbs down the AI and you win. You move on. Then you find yourself in the same situation. Rinse, repeat, rinse repeat. It got pretty boring.

The game really tries to force you to make quick bonds with the new characters. And I didn't just click with them. I didn't like Dina, I found her annoying and didn't really care for her. Jesse though. He was amazing. Really wished he stayed around for the possible trilogy they were hinting at the end (I'll talk about that in a bit).

Some aspects of the story had feelings of cut-and-paste from a fanfiction post. Like... It felt a 13 year old was trying to imitate 50 Shades. And THAT scene... Very unnecessary and didn't understand why they felt it had to be included.

But now for the good stuff:

I liked how very unsafe all the characters were. Everyone was at risk of being axed from the game. Why is everyone surprised that Joel died? I was totally expecting it to happen. Joel can't be around for very long in the game. It makes some sense to me.

The graphics were obviously amazingly beautiful. It's Naughty Dog. They're good in that department.

Some of the puzzles were a bit confusing but I liked how much detail they put even into rooms that were hardly involved with the story.

I really liked the idea of playing Abby. Seeing everything from her perspective was very eye-opening. Beforehand you were rooting for Ellie and hoped she got her revenge. But then ND forces you into Abby's shoes and to experience her side of that fateful day in the hospital. And her side of events in Seattle. I was like damn. I don't know who to side with. And I know Naughty Dog were aiming for that angle. I think they did that perfectly for me anyway.

The game left you wanting more. When you stopped to play so you can grab some dinner or run errands, LoU2 was the one thing constantly on my mind. I had to play it whenever I could. Sometimes for hours well into the night.

The ending, however, made no sense whatsoever. I mean... Why did Ellie and Dina decide to live in a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere? And why did Ellie spare Abby when she wanted her dead? Tried drowning her and then goes nah mate just go. So many plotholes that I'm sure were intently put there so we're screaming for The Last of Us Part 3.

I agree with a friend of mine who sai that Naughty Dog wrote it how they wanted it and they weren't afraid to really push buttons with the story. They didn't mind killing off main characters and shoving new ones in. They unapologetically made the game their way, no matter how unpopular it may have been.

The game wasn't so bad that it deserves a review bomb on Metacritic but it wasn't great either. It was an okay game. I'm glad I played it and waited when I did.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The graphics, the AI, the animations, the gameplay loop and the intensity of the enemy encounters are all great. Naughty Dog has unbelievably talented people who are simply the best in terms of Game Engine development and refinement of their own technology. They must be really proud of what they've achieved throughout these years and they have the right to be.

My big issue with this game is the story and writing. Joel dies at the beginning of the Story, not a problem at all: sets the mood for a huge ride into revenge and violence in the streets of Seattle. I liked the powerful prologue and I couldn't empathize more with Ellie. I felt the same as what Ellie felt and that's what that prologue was supposed to do.
While in Seattle though, a series of very stupid events happen. Leah, Norah, Mel, Owen, Manny and other characters die (sometimes even by a death worse than Joel's) and no one seem to give a **** about them or notice their death (for clearly forced coincidences). Characters motivations are often very bland and weak and Abby's journey often doesn't make any sense and as a player you struggle to empathize with her and her journey to "redemption".

The ending was very weak and not as powerful as they thought it would be. Imagine sitting at Naughty Dog hearing authors saying "HEY, this walk to the beach following Abby and Lev thinking at what she has done must be really cool" well it's not. Like it's not cool the final fight which I get it is intended to be anticlimatic but not to that extent. In general the powerful story of revenge and redemption that TLOU2 was supposed to be ends up being just an "OK experience". The only thing I can do is to be suspicious of their next work, this game simply leaves me indifferent. No hate, no love.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game has nice graphics and good music. Attention to detail and the feeling of world life is presented at a master's level. The weapon expansion system or the opponents AI also did very well. All in all it is an ND game. Unfortunately, the story itself did not appeal to me. Killing Joel - a veteran by Abby without knowing her motives, then forcing the player to play her makes the game frustrating. But maybe that was the director's endeavor. The ending of the game is equally annoying. Ellie decides to let go of Abby, who also killed Tommy-brother Joel, at the very end of Ellie concludes that revenge is bad? She couldn't imagine it when she brutally murdered Abby's friends [e.g. Nora]. For me, as a person attached to the first part, the story is disappointing. Gameplay is very similar to the first part, not too many new solutions introduced. Most zombie opponents are the same, probably a new type or two has been added. While facial expressions and the expansion of live opponents is admirable. After killing a dog, its owner calls him by name! Overall, this is a good game, although not revolutionary like the first part. As a continuation of Ellie's adventures, the game falls out worse.
It took me about 28 hours to complete the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. We should have seen this coming a mile off. Neil Druckmann quoted 'City of Thieves' by David Benioff as the main inspiration for the story - Benioff being one half of the infamous 'D&D' who botched the final season of Game of Thrones so much that one of the defining cultural touch points of a generation was forgotten within weeks and all the planned spinoffs were cancelled by their studios. They even have the nerve to put the book in the game - at one point Abby can be seen reading it when she is woken up. Couple this with Halley Gross being the lead co-writer, known for 'Westworld' which at first showed promise but quickly was exposed to be a whole lot of nothing, so much so that the third season's viewing figures are down a whopping 57% from the previous season.

With this stellar line up of writers there was no realistic chance of a competent story ever being told. In their efforts to to break away from the status quo and 'subvert expectations' what we are presented with is a confusing mess of a story. I don't mind Joel being killed off, but the game establishes no connection with the player and Abby before you're forced to play as her. I was actually enjoying the first half of the game before the character switch - at which point I just lost all motivation to continue. I only completed it on the strength of the first game and the fact I paid £60 for it. I simply didn't care about this character, her back story, or her friends - who you know will die, ruining any kind of suspense or mystery during her playthrough.

Going back in time was a big mistake for me - the story loses all momentum and you feel like you're just trudging along to get back to the scene in the theatre. It felt like a prequel within a game. The constant flashbacks for both charcters also ruined the pacing and overall the story can't hold a candle to the first game - which is a simple linear story through time focusing on the relationship between just two characters. In this game there are upwards of a dozen characters to keep track of and it felt like a TV show adaptation - with little character development for any of them. The overall theme of 'revenge is bad' was done in such a hamfisted way that it made you roll your eyes by the ending. The final act of the game could have been cut completely and the story starts to drag - the game is about 5 hours too long.

Beyond the story the game is a technical masterpiece - the graphics, the gameplay, the audio, the acting, the world building, etc. Unfortunately for the game designers it's the the story which is the bedrock of the game and this falls well short. The story of part 1 is the main reason for the great sales figures for part 2. It's therefore likely that the story of part 2 will be the main reason for the reduced sales figures of part 3.

    Cons:
Narrative is not well written, bad pacing, lots of flashbacks and jumbled story
Did not like 2nd part and 2nd playable character arch

The game is not perfect in any shape or form the best thing is the graphics i didn't like the shooting mechanics or the Abby story it was just a waste they should have focused on Ellie story that i like more even if a lot of people didn't like the ending it was okay for me so i had no issue with it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLOU II is a total mixed bag. It does certain things amazing (gameplay, graphics) but also is terrible with the story and getting fans excited. We wanted a game where you play as Ellie and where Ellie can be flawed but not evil. Instead, they turned Ellie into a monster, Joel into a bumbling fool, and a sadistic murderer into a heroine. The ending was depressing, and I felt worse after finishing it, not better. Expand

    Parabéns a produção jogo espetacular

Very mediocre game, would be much better if it ended after first half.

Stretched to the point of being boring, also behaviour of some of the characters is ridiculous.

The game, in my opinion, is pretty good, although the plot is too long in my opinion. The game is implemented very well graphically. For a game of this genre, in my opinion, the 7/10 is well deserved. But not 10/10

Soooo boring. I hardly hear any music and killing the zombies feels like a chore. On the plus side the puzzles are pretty interesting.

The game was hard to get through, with just constant sadness throughout almost every cut scene. The only moment I truly enjoyed was playing the guitar as joel. I love ellie, but the game kinda made me annoyed with her choices and made me miss joel even more. Expand

Well the last of us Part 2 is an amazing game with a unique story about a girl that revenges her father figure.

This takes place 4 years after the 1st game ended and seeing thses charecters again was super sweet Joel and Ellie are just amazing together and to see in past interactions how there bond grows with time.

Ellie game play is roughly a good 13 hours plus a last final act with her. i loved playing as Ellie and as when we play as her in part 1 for 4 hours and left behind was the cherry on top, this squeal was more bitter sweet.

Killing Joel off the first two hours of the game in present time was hard and brutal, and giving us a story of revenge and cold killing as they marketed for the last of us part 2.

When Ellie story is closing we get Abby's story and really was not that interesting, even though her game play levels was fun no lie.

Story score as a fan was a little disappointed and more so i wanted more of ELLIE NOT ABBY

**** Abby and the WLF Washington liberation front, and the firefly. **** them i hated them i did not like no one from that camp and i did not care about these characters.

For me Ellie (Ashley Johnson) did an amazing performance to keep me interested,, but Abby as (Laura Bailey) also did a fantastic job, but they did nothing to care or invest on her character act, i looked like 2 story's for me the one they marketed as a revenge story and a little spin off of a new character.

Over all my score is 7/10 its a fun game and im doing my second play thought to see if i can understand or fell Abby's side because Ellie is in my heart all ready, and i fell for her loss. [Link omitted per site policy]

Edited this review after 9 months to fully reflect on it and it's the only game I've ever played that's soured over time. My initial rating was 10. Just no. Naughty dog you had 7 years and in that time you added proning and an abysmal story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The lack of character building, the manipulative way of story writing and suggestive narrative that want to make us love Abby and her crew, despite of the justified choice of Joel in tlou part 1 is mindblowing. The writing and pacing of the story is really poor. To suggestive and one sided. I get the idea behind the other side of things but the way this "revenge story" just comes down to is to basic and non relatable compared to the gameplay. Murdering 100s of soldiers, totally neglecting the zombie apalocalypse, and bringing pregnant ladies to the battlefield while morning over losses on both sides and banding with totally uninteresting Characters just did not do it for me. The gameplay was dragged out and while you spend a lot of time looting and crafting for Items, weapons and ammo, the gameplay tries to psuh you in the direction of stealth. This is so contradicting, and destracting. The flashbacks where the best part of the story but just made it even more all over the place. I was hyped but scared at the same time that this game would go in a direction I would not like. Out of all the options how to continue with the story, they picked the worst one. It's a writer and developer choice but it doesn't make sense in my opinion. Off course the visuals look great, the acting and sounds where impacable and the time spend on detail is amazing. To bad the story and choices characters made where not believable and relatable. I'm dissapointed that the game pushed towards a part 3 and didn't have a conclusion or maybe even an player choice. All and all a game I really wanted to play and I'm happy I did but definitely not half as good as the first one. Expand

    Pro's:
-The game starts off really strong, we meet our beloved Ellie and Joel a few years after the ending of the first game and things start from there. I really liked this part, the relationship between the two is written really well and I started to get really invested in the story. The first few hours are engaging and I really did not get why people hated this game so much, but after a while things started to take really strange turns and eventually it even got to the point of me despising the game and the things it made me sit through.

    - Graphics and Sound are top tier. You cannot say this is a bad game on a technical level, the level design, sound design and overall look is amazing and you get really immersed in the world.

-Gameplay: if you like the first game's gameplay loop I guess you will like this as well. It's basically the same thing just with a few new extra things added on to it. I feel like they could have been more creative on this front but I guess it's an okay system if you want the sequel to have the same feel.

    Con's:
At a certain point the game makes you play as a character you absolutely despise, and tries very hard to make you feel sympathy for this character by showing their side of the events that unfold though the game. This really really doesn't work and made me want to quit the game multiple times because I could not stand playing as this character for 5/6 HOURS. I only finished it to get my money's worth but the final quarter of the game is an absolute slog to get through and I would not blame anyone to quit at that point.

Basically this last part ruined the game, if they cut it out or maybe made it just 1 flashback scene and changed the ending the story would feel more tight and rewarding. And even though it wouldn't be as great as the first game's story at least it would have been an okay overall plot with a few strong highlights.

However much I respect Neil and Naughty Dog, I must say this game left me disappointed. Characters, dialogue and story structure don’t shine like in the first game. Outrage focuses on three major plot choices: the shocker early on, the twist in the middle and the extension at the end. I didn’t mind the first two things: the first one just seemed fitting for this harsh world and the second one, to me, was, well, a nice and surprising twist. However, the last part was just stretching it, repetitive and frankly unbelievable. Enough is enough. So, the game left me unsatisfied, but still I would not want to have missed out on it: at times it’s hugely atmospheric, thanks to graphics, level design and gameplay. Also, I would have liked the discussions, if people weren’t being so hysterical. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
