This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fantastic gameplay. The new standard for both accessibility options and visual detail. The animations and sound design are the best I've ever seen in the game, upgrading guns is exciting just to see all the clicking and clacking of the weapons in detail under the harsh workshop lamp. Some brilliant story moments and character-building near the start of the game. Then the narrative and gameplay pacing begins to fall apart as you get past Ellie's Day 1.

Her flashbacks with Joel are lovely and give the game a *very* needed sense of levity. Even though dramatic moments still come up within them, they don't feel as soul-crushingly as hopeless as the time spent in Seattle. Up until the end of Ellie's Day 3, I felt the game had its problems but I was enjoying it. Then you start as Abby and it's just not executed well.

I don't mind the idea of playing as Abby but forcing you to play through the previous 15 hours from Abby's perspective *without warning* with characters you either hate or don't care about did not keep me engaged at all. The important part to take note is that it really is a surprise, I would've been more likely to enjoy and be open to Abby's sections of the game if you swapped off between characters at the end of each day. But forcing you to play as Abby at the emotional climax of Ellie's journey feels unnecessarily antagonistic, like the switch is there to spite the player when they're finally ready for a conclusion. There's a lot of hypothetical changes you can throw out there but there's a lot of issues I have with Abby's days would require more than just reorganising how you play them. Long story short I did grow to sympathise with Abby but I never liked her, or her friends for that matter.

I don't think the story is bad but I'd argue the way it's told certainly is. Abby definitely has the most varied level-design: the spooky forest clearing where you meet Yara and Lev, and the Island sequence stand out. And I really enjoyed Ellie's final level through Santa Barbara; it provides a really nice change of aesthetic to the grey wind and rain of Seattle, contains interesting encounters and *most importantly* is the most well-paced level in my opinion.

I ended up finding the ending quite provocative but did find it to be *too* hopeless. The final flashbacks to Joel had me weeping like a little baby, 10 out of 10 moments for me. But the 23 hours previous have a bigger impact on my enjoyment of the game than the sparse moments of great story-telling between characters I *do* care about.

It's a tricky one to discuss and video-essayists have made much more in-depth videos than anything you'll see in a Metacritic user review. It's a game I'm glad I played and would like to play again because I do love the gameplay so much (replaying encounters is a god-send for me), but after getting to the start of Ellie's Day 2 on a second playthrough I don't think I can bring myself to be engaged with the story now that I know what comes afterwards.

With the game's erratic quality I can see people giving this game anywhere from a 4 to an 8, but I can not understand how someone could give this game a 10 or a 0, because even if you hate it there are moments likely to hit you in a way no game ever has. Critics seem to think it is perfect. I think professionals in the industry like to think that games have as much artistic credence as books and movies and so if a game tries something different or controversial then it must be a well-executed subversion of story-telling and a "new paragon of narrative design". When, in fact, maybe it was just something that *did* try hard but didn't quite hit the mark. Although I very strongly suspect if this game came from any other studio than Naughty Dog those review scores wouldn't be quite as high.

Simplemente el trato al personaje más querido y el final es decepcionante para mi. The first game was about love and it made every single person who played it cry because it hurt. This one is not about love, it’s about hate. They want every piece of media to be fluffy domestic bliss. I can’t think of anything more boring than that.

Gameplay wise, they have definitely improved on all the original games mechanics. Although this one is much more heavily leaned towards wanting you to do stealth. The upgraded melee was particularly satisfying.

The graphics are amazing. Nothing else to say about them other than the lighting department needs a damn award.

The gameplay, almost identical to the original game, remains current and fluid. Exploration gained greater prominence, bringing more open areas providing a broader perspective of the reality of the universe in which the story takes place.
The plot is not well tied. Forgetting everything that was built in the first episode, especially the characteristics and the relationship of the people.
I understand the idea of using revenge as the driving force of history, but not even his initial tip-foot is sustained. The intelligence of the players is almost a debauchery. The characters who join this sequel really seem to pertrade the reality of the game.
The idea of bringing the villain's perspective is **** Using this artifice, we are stuck in this narrative wearing the fluidity from the story, making it tiring.
I believe that the biggest problem of the game is its outcome.
After everything the player goes through,
after all the challenges and losses Ellie has to deal with, failure to take revenge makes the journey seem empty and in vain.
Sad that a franchise that would not need a sequence has won one that deconstructs everything that was appreciated by its audience

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The storyline in this game was generic and repetitive especially in the second half of the game. The cycle of revenge between either side was pointless and what I mean by repetitive. Spoiler Abby killed Joel. Then Ellie wants revenge. She killed all the group of the Salt lake squad. Abby finds out and went to confront Ellie. She killed Jesse and let Ellie go. Few months/Years, Ellie wants revenge again and asked Abby to fight her. After all, this happened, She let her go. So repetitive! Ellie killed a pregnant woman and all Abby's friend and she didn't kill Ellie? Because the scar child gave her a look? But she brutally killed Joel. We all know Joel was not a good guy. He was a smuggler and a murderer before he met Ellie. He didn't even want Ellie. However, there should be justice like Arthur Morgan in RD2. He is still a character we loved. I don't mind if he died really. All decision has consequences. Also, the fact that you are playing the person that killed one of the major characters that you love in the first game and tries you to feel bad for this person that you really don't care. I was on Ellie's side all the way. I get why she has to kill Joel but I really don't care about her which ruin half of the game. If Abby's story was a DLC then I probably wouldn't mind. I also like to point out that Ellie's storyline in Seattle was more of a generic video game story. Like you have to find and kill the other people of the group before you fight the main boss. That's a Basic storyline. What happened to the emotional storytelling for example when Joel fell from the balcony and got stab by a pipe or something. He nearly died. He was sick for a month and Ellie was captured by a paedophile and was about to get abuse. Joel has to save her but she's the one who killed the man. That was an emotional scene and a perfect example of great storytelling.
I agree with the mechanics, graphics, AI, etc. It's impressive, beautiful and the fact that PS4 released 7 years ago

Great game with a solid story, but lacks the pacing and focus of the original. The first game knew when to step off the gas and give the player a breather where this one has just one speed; full. Well worth a play. Storywise it wanders off its vengeance theme a little too often to really hit the mark as well as the original, but a strong cast of new characters makes it enjoyable nonetheless.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Everyone is upset about Joel, but the real tragedy here is what they've done to their female characters, and that The Last of Us 2, is decidedly unfeminist.

Before I continue, I'd like to note that I've never left a review for a game, and never used Metacritic - but this game offended me so much, that I decided to make an account and add my voice to the conversation.

As a female gamer, it always excited me to see great and well written female characters. Of-course I always appreciate fantastic male characters and really loved Joel and Ellie in the 1st game. Ellie was such a realistic and engaging female character because she was so smart, funny, resourceful, and while she had her struggles, she always tried to be a good person. In the sequel, all of that is gone. She is mean, depressive, monotone and selfish. I understand the developers, wanted her to be “dark” and “ a strong women” but all they’ve done is suck the life out of an amazing character. Why is it, that to be “a strong women”, it means to cave people's skulls in? What about other strong traits besides just physical strength like kindness, leadership, forgiveness, intelligence? Ellie is a bad person, constantly putting her pregnant girlfriends/friend's life at risk for her own selfish causes - it’s very unfortunate to see. It’s really unfortunate to see “strong women” constantly be angry, mean and selfish, and not allowing them to be smart, fun, kind or wise-cracky, like male protagonists often get to be (like Nathan Drake from Uncharted). That’s what made Ellie in the first game, such a breath of fresh air! But the depiction of the female characters here is very stereotypical of a “strong women”. The same is done to Abby. Abby is also a “strong female character” but doesn’t have any real strength, agency, or control over her life. It’s very unfortunate to see another female character thrown into a tired “love triangle” with this self-centered loser character, Owen, and be pitted against his other on-off again girlfriend Mel. Why can’t Mel and Abby be friends? All of Abby’s flashbacks are about Owen, and Owen pressuring her to do things she first says no to or is obviously uncomfortable following along with. Owen is often mean to Abby, which reeks of the sexist “men are mean to you because they like you” trope. There is also a disturbing “sex scene” where Abby and Owen start fighting then it turns to “angry sex”. You spend much of Abby’s time worrying about Owen, who doesn’t seem to care much for Abby no matter how much she tries to please him. Abby and Owen’s “romance” is dated, sexist, boring, and tired and I'm shocked how much game time was dedicated to this.

When the player assumes the role of both of these women, they are given no real choices. Due to the fact that Ellie was not given a choice whether to sacrifice herself in the first game, I thought that regarding gameplay, this game would introduce Ellie with some choices to make. But no, through the entire game, you never get to make any choices.

I would have liked to see more of Nora and Yara as I thought both were much better written female characters, for the little game time they got.

For a studio that claimed to put out a feminist product, I’m very disappointed that it appears we are taking steps backwards.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Here's my brutally honest review from someone who's favorite game of all time is The Last of Us: This is so heartbreaking to write. The Last of Us is the first game I really fell in love with. And I waited 4 years for a poor story and a **** ending. I enjoyed the game gameplay wise and this is one of the best games graphics wise that I have ever played. Now granted the first last of us is my favorite game of all time but the last of us 2 doesn't do the things the first game did great justice. Honestly the game overstayed its welcome. It took me 28 hours to complete the game really looking for all the collectibles and even got the trophy for exporing every place in downtown seattle. The plot wasn't great for the time you play with Ellie up until you play as Abby and then the story gets even worse. We loved the first game for it's story more than anything else. It's just sad to see how they treated this game. The characters are alright and out of all the new characters I liked Dina the most and Jesse was alright. I absolutely HATE Abby. The fact that we have to play with her after she killed Joel sucked ass. I don't care about her story and the whole time I was playing as Abby I was itching to play with Ellie. Even though you get all weapons and new upgrade branches it doesn't bring anything fresh. There's this plotline with Abby where you save these two kids and play with them but it feels like a side quest. There's also this one sex scene with Abby and this dude named Owen who you don't care about and you have to see their relationship unfold like we give a flying **** The scene feels so forced and they do it while Owen is dating this one chick who we also don't care about and she is pregnant. Based off what we've seen from Owen it just seems out of character. Everything seemed out of place and it goes on for far too long. The first games runtime seemed perfect and it never got boring because it had great pacing. The gameplay is fantastic though and feels really fluid and polished with a few things added with the game being much more open which I enjoyed. Another thing is that the game is oozing with atmosphere and it's one of the most atmoshperic games i've ever played especially with how good the sound design is. For a story based IP this game lacks in what made fans love it. I wouldn't be mad if naughty dog tried their luck in a new horror based IP because of how tense and atmospheric this game is. Also Neil Druckmann is an absolute horndog! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well. After playing for about 23 hours i can finally review this game. Killing Joel in such a heartless and rushing way was something which i can't and won't forget. . As he went to the city in Part 1 with Ellie by car, he instantly knew what the hell was going on, as some random people apparently needed his help. You could argue that after 4 years you get lazy and start to trust people more. But it's Joel: A character who is very stubborn and wants to avoid any risk at any costs, so it's not very likely that he would change even a bit. Playing Abby was no problem for me, even if she was the killer of Joel. But nearly half of the game? Damn. No way. In addition the game tried to make the player emotionally attached after killing Joel. I can say that in my case it showed the absolute opposite. I had literally no emotion left at all because all i waited for 7 years was torn apart after not even 2 hours in such a horrible way. Scenes in Last of Us Part 1, which still make me so emotional and makes me nearly cry till this day; while playing Last of Us Part 2 i felt nothing. Absolutely nothing. After debating if the game is good or bad, i decided to do neither of it. So it's a 5/10. Rest in Piece Last of Us. I will always remember your first part as the only part, which remains my favourite game of all time forever.

    Pros:
    Graphics
    Gameplay
    "Quick Time Events"
Nice side characters like Jesse or Gina

    Con;
Story, which is of course the most important part in a story game
    some boring passages while playing

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Positive points : This game certainly pushes the limits of graphics in the previous generation and might also give competition to the next gen games that are gonna come out with the release of ps5, the level of detail in acting and audio is one of the best I've ever seen, plus the gameplay has also improved drastically even though the basics of the gameplay is still that of its predecessor.
Negative points : The story is an edgy piece of crap trying to shout "Oh look how different the story is, look what a piece of art this is, look we killed the main character in the first 2 hours of the gameplay and then made you play as his killer for more than 10 hours in order to have some sympathy for Abby and waste your time in the process" throughout the whole game. Personally, I like sad and grim stories in movies, tv shows, games, books etc. and most of the things i've seen tends to work perfectly on an emotional level, but this game seems to have done the opposite despite being a sad story. Throughout the game, i felt no emotional attachment to the game after Joel's death as I had literally no control over the events occuring in the gameplay or the cut scenes whatsoever(especially the end), yet the game constantly tries to show me how bad the decisions i made by killing hundreds of NPCs Humans and dogs were even though I killed them all because i had no choice over the actions while playing as Ellie. It feels like the writers of the Lou2 tried to shove their own ideas and thoughts while at the same time scrapping everything the first game was built on. Games are supposed to be fun even if the story is sad, the first part was extremely sad, but it was still a fun game as the chemistry between Joel and Ellie was so intriguing, and the audience wanted to know what more will happen to both of their relationship, the cure, the fireflies and other major parts. Scrapping the whole game, killing Joel early on in the game, and making the previous characters naturally unlikeable just for the sake of establishing new bland characters seems like a pretty goddamn dumb idea to me, because clearly it didn't work with the majority of the Lou fan base, not to mention the game was way too lengthy too. If anyone is going into this game without playing the first part, you might like it man but for someone who had waited for over 7 years for this, I feel thoroughly disappointed and dissatisfied with the final product. So much for a generic revenge plot, holy **** Neil/Naughty Dog.

What amazing characters. Joel and Ellie and their growing relationship, their bond, with each other - that was great to watch ( and play). This was the heart and soul of what made that game so great. But, as much as it hurts to say, Last of Us Part 2 took a giant DUMP all over that and destroyed all the heart and soul there ever was. Now don't get me wrong, LOUP2 is still such a beautiful game and has its intense moments, but the story is just horrible and betrays everything about its characters from the previous game. It slaps every fan hard across their face and forces them to play psychotic murderers with split personality issues and also FORCES the player to be confronted with the "woke community". Last of Us Part 2 is a game full of plot holes and a giant amount of flashbacks that rip you out of the game so often, it annoys the teets off a rat. These time jumps just ruin the whole immersion that a player wants to keep in a game. Two, maybe three well-placed ones I might be okay with, but this is just a bad way to tell a story. I was soooo looking forward to this game, but after playing it for a few hours I was regretting it bitterly. And I took my sweet sweet time to with my playthrough ( over 36 hours) because I spent 70 fricking bucks and wanted to squeeze out every cent possible in return. And boy, I can tell you that wasn't easy. You know, There is a farm seen later in the game ( I won't describe more) in which my only thought was "oh God, please let this be finally over". That alone explains what a painful journey this game is. The only good thing to say about it is. that it is truly a beautiful game with lots of areas to scrounge through and awesome detailed regions where you just want to stop and just LOOK around. There are some "levels" in which you can choose to sneak around certain enemies instead of hunting them all down like a serial killer. But then: in other areas you don't have that option. For me the "Game Killer was the way a certain well-known (and loved) main character was "ended". This person DESERVED a better way to go. Also, the missing option to be able to knock someone out - that has to be an effing JOKE. How can you NOT have the choice to knock someone out instead of having to kill them? That is so NOT right. This game has turned its main characters into psychopaths and ignores everything the characters have learned and experienced in their past. It contradicts the true soul of its characters and pees all over the logic of certain choices / decisions they make. And that's why judgement is: they effed it all up! Expand

If you have played the first game and loved it for its gameplay and gameplay is important to you get this game. There not to many innovations though( unless you count prone, jumping, and 1 new infected.) If you play the last of us part 2 for story, I wouldn't recommend it. Gameplay, sound design, graphics, and gore is great. It lacks in characters and story

Characters show up, and dissapear so quickly without really making an impact to the overall narrative. Standouts for the new cast include Lev and Dina, while all the characters you know and love give knockout performances. Sadly, the good just barely outweighs the bad, and for that reason I give The Last of Us Part ll a 6/10 Expand

Story wasn’t bad, wasn’t good either, it was hard ok, more predictable than the first one and with more childish, polarized message that doesn’t leave much room for contemplation.
The real problem is the narrative game is trying to force on players. It was brave move that didn't work out at all. I have this feeling that this was someone exclusive idea which he really liked but didn't want to understand that majority of people are going to strongly dislike it.
“I know you wish things were different (10/10), I wish things were different but they ain’t”
You can extract everything that is best in this game: excellent graphics, superb audio, superior gameplay, awesome acting, strong feelings and give it 10/10.
“When lost in darkness, look for the light”
You can also grab everything that is the worst and give it 5/10.
This seems like two extremes but maybe not necessarily. Not all of the players played tlou1 before, not all of the people are emotionally attached to the game or maybe does not want to (professional reviewers). Without doubt you can stick to something you like or dislike and this is another issue of TLoU2, it’s polarizing to extremes. That wasn’t the case with tlou1, some liked the story, some didn’t but everyone got it, understood and appreciated. This was a story at the end you could say: “Wow, this was a ride” no matter if you agreed with the characters decisions or not. I personally love tlou1 and I know that I’ll return to it someday, sadly I don’t know if that’s the case with tlou2. That being said it’s 7 out of 10 (good but with serious storytelling problems).

All this angry, feelings of revenge and the path with its consequences. I really liked it and I kinda was angry when my lovely character Joel died but it is post apocalypse world. Everything can happen. So I was ready for this and don't get sad about it.
The negatives is for this LGBTQ things I really don't get and Ellie was immune at least she could be get pregnant and give a birth new immune kids. But she chooses be a lesbian. And all main charactersare womens I mean it is funny. At least it coul6be equal. For female main characters we have many games like horizon zero dawn or tomb raider. why ruin TLOU with this feminist things. I don’t hate the game but i don’t love it either. The ending was just kinda meh. Why did Ellie have to kill all those people to just forgive Abby? It was very unsatisfying to see Ellie all alone without Dina, JJ and two of her fingers.

First I want to clarify I'm not a native speaker to the English language in case I have some words that I mispelled, now let's get on for the review.
I want to start by saying the positive things that came out of this game.
The last of us was one of the most heartbreaking and groundbreaking games ever. So, for the sequel it was expected to have a lot of hype and expectations coming in... Evene after saying that I think the sequel did kind of dissapoint me.
The last of us part 2 has probably the best visuals, special effects, cgi I have ever seen in any videogame ever. I think that many people aren´t acknowledging that. The visuals left me with my jaw on the floor, each scene felt like a masterpiece.
Also, the gameplay developed similarly to the first one adding many elements like the stealth options, the workshop elements, the improvement of skills, etc. I think that the gameplay, the zombies and the action scenes are way more fun and unique in a very real way. Each time I kill some enemies I feel the weight of each bullet, the npc's feel more realistic and griddy making the game have a much more realistic look for the environment and for the characters.
Another thing I really enjoyed was the writing, even though the story, the pacing, the characters and some decisions are really poor in this game the writing does have it's moments. The writing was pretty good considering the story they wanted to say, the characters did feel grounded and I felt the weight of each character I lost even the ones I didn't actually know in the beginning. Relationships are formed in a decent way and many characters do feel very real.
    Now with the negatives.
I won't get too much into the story because I don't want to spoil anyone, but the story is really weak. After the first one this one felt like a try hard version of a change in characters that didn't work as well as they wanted to. Most of the characters that you already know from the first game are changed almost completely in a way that you almost can't recognize. The story is sloppy and a bit messy in times shifting from flash backs and stories that are very on the nose.
The game makes some bold decisions that in the end don't play that well. I think that the studio, the actors, the visuals effects, the concept art, the design... they all did their best with what they were given.
But, in my opinion it ended up becoming a ground breaking video game in visuals, having some of the most flawless animations ever. Some really fun gameplay in a story that ends up being pretty forgettable. In itself this videogame would have been a really decent one if it wasn't a sequel, but sadly it is.
This game tries to portray a story that has already been told in many ways, media, tv shows and movies. It tries to be super clever, but it ends up falling a bit flat even with good writing and good visuals.
This movie just suffered from the pacing, the structure of the story and the way that it was told. This game could've still been a masterpiece if it was told in a different order and in a way that didn't make the person playing the game forced to feel something. This game could've been a masterpiece... sadly it ended up being a forgettable ok game that I would only play again for the visuals.

I went into this game apprehensively. I was concerned because Troy Baker wanted us to have an "open mind" going in. That's usually code for you're not going to like what you see here.

I knew about the leaks but I intentionally avoided all of them. So, other than the one comment from Troy, I was going in blind. Surprisingly, when the game started off I didn't have any issues with it.

I knew about the leaks but I intentionally avoided all of them. So, other than the one comment from Troy, I was going in blind.

Surprisingly, when the game started off I didn't have any issues with it. However, it soon became apparent that Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann had a scratch to itch with this game's story, characters be damned.

Neil has gone to Twitter and said that they won't pander to the fans of the original game, which is fine. Tell the story that you want to tell. If you want to tell a dark story, then do so creatively. If you want to take these characters on a journey into the pits of hell, then do so creatively. If you want to discuss how revenge makes monsters of us all, then do so creatively. What you don't do, is give us this story that is so amateurish in its execution that it was genuinely a chore to slog through.

It's almost as if ND engineered this story from the end and worked their way backwards. How do I get the characters here? Oh, well this has to happen and that has to happen regardless of whether it makes any sense or not. The plot should serve the characters not the other way around. This is why you have multiple characters behave in uncharacteristic ways just so ND can get to where they want to go with their story.

This same story could be told, even with all of its issues, in a much better fashion. How is it that the last game came out in 2013 and this is the best that they could do? This game's story drags the whole game down. I actually wanted the game to just end when I got to the farm. This wasn't because I thought that would be a good way to end the game. I simply wanted the game to end because I didn't care anymore. As a storyteller, I'm sure that's the last thing you want, but as a gamer I can tell you what I don't want: The Last of Us Part III. Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann made sure of that.

I really wanted to like this game. The first game was amazing, a 10/10 experience. I am by no mean a professional reviewer but even by my standards 10/10 scores are extremely rare.

The first game is so strong because it's a heartwarming father-daughter experience in a world void of any decency. The first game is so strong because it's a heartwarming father-daughter experience in a world void of any decency. That concept we all loved is intentionally stripped from the second game right from the beginning, with the exception of a few infrequent flashbacks that don't really add much to the plot after Joel is treated like a side character.

Instead, TLOU2 focuses on a revenge narrative. It's about hate instead of love - a bold choice to go in the opposite direction. At times, we empathize with the characters and Ellie in particular, but ultimately it feels like senseless violence (which is the point) and we are meant to take an objective stance on it. There are also a few plot holes, instances of characters acting inconsistently compared to their behavior in the first game, character development occurring after the deaths of important people (in flashbacks), times when the player has to suspend disbelief, not too much additional lore, and a plethora of weird pacing issues. Some of it is very hard to get through because the characters we grew to love are treated like dirt and treat each other like dirt as well.

That being said, the story is highly controversial and simply not for everyone. Personally, it was a deal-breaker for me and left me feeling miserable. So much missed the mark for me that it would take up another review entirely for me to explain. The plot is a mess.

Additionally, at times the weight of each character's actions doesn't seem as real as in the first game because the survival element is a lot less prominent. Ellie can infinitely knife enemies or chop them to pieces. Abby is a complete badass with more strength than any of the male characters and an army on her side, although it's a bit weird how she can't find a knife for stealth too. The first game was just Joel and a kid (Ellie) versus the world. However, during certain segments while fighting the infected, there are some tough moments. It's a lot of fun playing as Abby in particular because her segments are so intense and varied.

The gameplay, animation, sound, music, voice acting, and graphics are all phenomenal. There are new crafting options, controls, and now there's vertical level design. Unfortunately, there's an overabundance of cutscenes and walking/horse-riding as opposed to actual combat to the extent that a lot of it feels like filler. The game doesn't even pick up until roughly 30 minutes in. I think the developers forgot they were making TLOU2 at times and not Uncharted 5 - not that Uncharted is bad by any means, but it's clearly a different series. And besides certain intense areas when you play as Abby, most of the game's chapters feel like random progression, whereas in the first game every segment was engaging and unique. Not too much is particularly memorable and the game overall is far too long for its own good.

One thing people wished was rumor (according to the leaks), but is unfortunately true, is the heavy implementation of progressive politics. I don't think most players care if a character is a lesbian, for example, but why make it central to her entire identity and the plot? On top of that, Abby is comically muscular, two other women are bisexual (one not shown in-game), there is a homosexual WLF enemy, and there's another new character who is a trans child. I found myself asking, "Is this a game about fungus zombies or sexual identity, feminism, and gender?" The LGBT community is so small, and yet in this universe, there's a massive over-representation of LGBT characters in a post-apocalyptic world, all converging in Seattle. It just doesn't make sense for a series that's known for its realism.

Still, even despite its flaws, this is an okay game with a lot of new content to offer compared to the first. It's far better without making the comparison. These are two entirely different games.

Graphics and animations are some of the best I've seen. Did not agree with the story much. I would change the order of major events, and found that there were many characters that I did not care about and did not even remember the name of because of a lack of meaningful character development. Some characters I tried desperately to like (despite their controversial actions) ended up being very uninteresting and I found myself having to force myself to continue the game. I also found some major characters to be completely unlikable, yet the developers attempt to make us care and sympathize with them through very cheap tactics (namely forcing us to commit horrid acts to justify another characters actions). Older characters stray away from their established values and skills, with completely out-of-character actions with little to no logical explanation. Story is a very cliché "the cycle of revenge is bad" plot and seems to make the player do terrible things simply to be edgy and create "shock value". The fact that much of the player base literally does not want to continue playing because they have to play as a certain character tells you enough about how unlikable some of the characters are. And no, successfully eliciting certain emotions from the player does not mean the story is good, it is because the first game's characters were so well developed that people are emotional as to what happens to them in a sequel. The story also feels dragged on almost double to how long it should have been, and I found myself completely losing motivation to continue playing. A story that subverts expectations isn't necessarily good. There is a good way to do it and a bad way to do it, and because the writers seem to only do this for shock value, I think this game does not execute this aspect well. Although I can appreciate many aspects of the game, such as graphics, animations, accessibility options, AI, sound design, level design, and voice actors, I overall cannot recommend this game because the story is such a pivotal component of something like The Last of Us, and it seems to be an extreme letdown compared to the first game. My play through took me three weeks to get through because I am an adult with a job and a family, this game had potential to be absolutely Game of the year but lost it due to bad narrative and lack of open world. In 2020 to release a game that feels like its on rails is shocking. Gameplay was especially the same with a jump button. After digging deeper into why everyone has a problem with this game I find its not the game but the developer and Sony’s reaction to people who don’t agree with the treatment of beloved characters. Drops to a 5 because of poor story, and the fact that you’re forced to play as Abby half the game. To me that entire branch felt more of a useless side-quest, as she abandons all her friends and allies for two enemies that saved her. Where my hate really started kicking in was when you HAD to fight Ellie as Abby. The Last of Us is a very liner game so I didn't expect much of a sandbox open world game. But the second level of the game takes you in the begining of Settle riding on horse back. Seeing and visiting almost every building you see with a clear objective was incredible. However as the levels continue the map of the new area become smaller and smaller to the point of going back to the original game roots. This makes the game experience lacking compered to what they could of done vs what they actually did. The level designs ranges about 3 hours per new area you visit but is it fun and exciting. Yes you do have some areas you can visit but getting through each area are the same as the last one you entered. Either kill all the enemies or sneak by them. Rise and repeat for 5 more times. This process made the game longer to fit a big game title but for enjoyment that answer is no.
The story process by you playing as Ellie and after each brief you are awarded a flashback. These flashback are tells the time Ellie spend with Joal but provide very little in both gameplay and plo. After half of the came you play as Abby and again like Ellie after each you'll get a flashback or a new feature are dreams which just like the flashback provides almost nothing. Each flashback can be explained in the story by simpling having character talk to each other. In fact the whole story of revange can be resolved by having character talk it out with each other.
If you think the game is slow, taxing, and boring just wait for the ending. This game likes how it looks so much that it will linger on which several minutes has pass so you can enjoy it rather than playing the game. This creates an illusion that you are finished with this game, throw away some trash, use the restroom, get a snack and there's another scene apparently.
In short The Last of Us part 2 is a good game but not a Last of Us good game.

The graphics are unreal, the animation work and AI is often next level, but the most important area, the characters and story is where things fall so short. Where as in the first game every character genuinely felt like they had purpose and an individual arc which added to overall arc between Ellie & Joel, the characters in Part II didn’t connect & were often forgetful. The events that take place and actions taken by the characters also felt painfully contrived and awkward with none of the payoff the first game gave. By the later parts of the game I just wanted it to be over as it kept dragging on to its unsatisfying end. 6/10, NOT a "masterpiece".
After finishing the game, here is my take on it: I did not enjoy it as much as I had hoped. The story line was kind of weak, in my eyes, and not executed in a way that allowed me to feel any emotional investment or payoff. The story can be described as "realistic" I suppose, but there were so many contradictory moments; were the writers that lazy, or were they

After finishing the game, here is my take on it: I did not enjoy it as much as I had hoped. The story line was kind of weak, in my eyes, and not executed in a way that allowed me to feel any emotional investment or payoff. The story can be described as "realistic" I suppose, but there were so many contradictory moments; were the writers that lazy, or were they really trying to pass a C+ movie off as a game?

Story line aside, the fighting mechanics were fun albeit repetitive and a little silly at times. Dodging and having a prone position were beneficial additions to the game, and yet players still crafted the basic items from the first game (molotov, shiv, med kit, bomb) with the same play style. The upgrades and skill trees were pretty pointless in the end, which was frustrating because we spent so much time gathering those resources only to find out that you may not even need to fight at all (running to the next cutscene). It would be nice if there wasn't always a "whew, I think that's it" dialogue prompt to state that you killed all the enemies in the area. That felt a little campy for a game that was trying to have a story line that was as realistic as possible. Lastly, the game did feel about 5 hours too long. The more time dragged on, the less attention we put into reading notes and enjoying the environment, because the story line became the linear spine of the game.

The music was well enjoyed through the levels, and the graphics were beautiful, which I'm sure most people agree with, so there isn't much more to say on that. All politics aside, and just taking the game for face value, it was okay, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the first and I wouldn't enjoy replaying it. Also, I hope multiplayer comes out, because that was my favorite aspect of the first.

The game tries to put you in the shoes of someone else, except you hate Abby, the writer was crazy thinking than someone would like to play more than 8 hours with Joel's murderer. The history is unexpectable, but it does not make it enjoyable. Of course, all of us wanted to see Abby's death, seriously, what were writers thinking? Expand

Eh... The game play is ok but nothing special from the previous one. Main problems are with the story and characters (pregnant at the front lines, easy forgettable and sometimes idiotic).. Playing Abby was tiresome, Ellie gets less than half of the game time and she gets far less things then Abby, don't want to get to the spoilers but it's shown like the game forces us to like Abby and hate Ellie.

Naughty Dog, you Practically destroyed all the male characters, and not because they’re male, but because we’ve, as a community, have come to know and love these people; Cough cough- JOEL AND TOMMY oh and Glen from TWD. And then we get to see Abby, whose ridiculously huge, and I say this is ridiculous not because there’s anything wrong with a buff woman, but because IN THE MIDDLE OF AN APOCALYPSE YOU HAVE A WOMAN WHOSE BUILT LIKE A TRAIN. Doesn’t make sense. How is she this huge? What, does she have a stash of steroids or something? Kinda silly if you think about it. It’s just forced. The whole girl power thing is just forced and people hate it..because it cost our beloved characters to get the boot. Idc what agenda you put in a game as long as it works and your not shoving it down my throat. In reality nobody cares. People play games to escape reality. And look....all great heroes have an end, I don’t mind Joel dying, it’s the way you killed him you fool. Neil, man...you told us back in 2016 that the main focus of this game was JOEL AND ELLIE. You lied and decided to bring She-Hulk into the mix. And then you’re gonna try to play with our emotions, trying to make us feel sorry for this chick after what she did, and what she continues to do throughout the story. I’m sorry but a lot of us don’t have enough empathy for her, even after we find out the plot twist. That’s just my story review. However is the story-telling bad? No. It’s not a bad story. It works. But for a hardcore Last of Us fan, it’s not gonna pass. You literally took away the heart and soul of the game. For a newcomer however, they’d most likely like the game. Gameplay as always is AMAZING, that’s really the only thing I reallyyyyt love. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unfortunately, TLOU2 is a flawed game, with some questionable decisions in story telling, pacing and direction. However, it is worth playing, and from a pure technical and gameplay perspective, quite stunning.

I'll start first on the technical side of things, which is where this game truly shines. In this respect, TLOU2 is a masterpiece. Graphically, the game is gorgeous, one of the best looking PS4 games to date, and certainly a stunning way to cap of the PS4's end of life. The environments are richly detailed, from Jackson's winter snow covered climate, Seattle's rain soaked depressing atmosphere and Santa Barbara's hot, dry heat. The PS4 Pro was able to render them all with great clarity and stunning lighting at 1440p. As a PC gamer predominantly, the 30fps was annoying, as was the controller, however, I think these annoyances can be overlooked - although I would love the series to come to PC one day.

While it suffered in some areas from drops under 30fps (mostly interactive water environs), for the most part it was completely playable. The Temporal Anti-Aliasing, nice film grain, filmic colour grading and beautiful lighting (using pre-baked and indirect lighting effects), especially the global illumination lighting effects, simulating colour bleeding from light on different materials (which was impressively implemented) brought the game and the richly cluttered and living environments to life. The environments ranged from quite large open areas like the large Seattle map, to more guided closed areas in the later game. I don't think an open world design would have been of benefit for this title, and was best served with map design seen in game.

The story however is quite clearly an area which has received some very critical reception, and rightly so. While I didn't hate the story, in fact I enjoyed some parts of it, I didn't like it either. It is for the most part a story of revenge, and very little else, there is nothing original here. There are moments of redemption and clarity of thought for the characters, but in the end, it was an eye for an eye revenge adventure plot that did not succeed, leaving the player empty, angry and wondering what was it all for. Maybe that was the point of the story? If so, it's not appreciated. The game is undeniably bleak and hard to enjoy in many parts, which is a shame, given that TLOU1 was such a fantastic game with a brilliant story. Forcing the player to play from the viewpoint of the "antagonist" for essentially the entire last half of the game was clearly an attempt to try and show to the player how perceptions and points of view are never truly what they seem, nor a persons intentions - for Abby it was about justice, for Ellie it was about vengeance.

There were some really great parts to the story, the best being the flashbacks to Joel and Ellie's moments in the past, both good and bad and their journey from close bond, shattered relationship and eventual renewal - although this never came to pass given the story events. These good moments were few and far between though. When we get to know Abby, she is not quite the evil murderer that she is initially portrayed to be, and much like Ellie, a product of her surroundings and history, that fact is established at the start. This does not absolve her of her actions though - Abby's justice was directed solely at Joel, while Ellie's revenge was directed at everything to do with the WLF, purely by association with Abby. In the end, Ellie evolved into a worse person than Abby, destroying her character. Abby's initial introduction into the game with her hate filled and violent introduction as she beats Joel to death for the murder of her father did not lend her to being an easy character to either play as or to empathize with. There is much more to say, but not really enough space. To sum it up, the story is flawed, imperfect and hard to digest, but ultimately, still worth experiencing.

The gameplay is much like any other Naughty Dog title with survival elements, scrounging for supplies etc. It's fun, and a refinement on previous titles. While it's nothing groundbreaking, it does the job well. However, some elements like restrictions on ammunition amount make little sense. As a PC gamer, the camera felt overly claustrophobic, which is something that console titles have always had an issue with. But apart from small issues like those, it was still fun from a gameplay perspective.

Over all, I'd rate TLOU2 a 5 out of 10. This game is by no means perfect like most of the mainstream gaming media portray. It's most glaring issues are those involving story and the essential destruction (deconstruction?) of those characters we came to love in the original game. That is not easily overlooked. However from a clear technical point of view, the game is stunning, richly rendered and always looks beautiful. EDIT: Changed from 7 to 5, in light of actions by Sony and ND and their doubling down on stupid.

I didn't want Joel to die but if you make that happen, you should not put it at the start of the game. The pacing is poor and the story isn't necessary. Abby's story is actually okay, but it drags out forever and you should've had to play it before you know she kills Joel because the entire time you just want her to die. Nobody in this story is in the right, but you root for Ellie and Joel because of the first game. Parts of it felt very unnecessary. I couldn't form a real opinion on Jesse and Dina, because you barely get to know anything about their characters. As for the ending: this really made me disappointed. I think the game saves some grace with me if it ends with Ellie and Dina and the baby, and mix in a flashback like the one the game finished with. Instead, she leaves the life and family she has and goes off to kill Abby and when Ellie gets there, she doesn't even kill Abby. One thing that bothers me about games is when they lose the player with the timeline. I like flashbacks, but I was left with many questions. How long was Joel and Ellie in Jackson before Seattle? How did Ellie and Dina find a way to survive after Seattle? Did they go directly back to Jackson presumably? How long did they stay there? How long were they living in the house at the end of the game? How long was Ellie gone? What happened to Dina and the baby? I wish the game has a DLC (it probably wont) to maybe fix some of the plot holes, but I doubt it. I would really prefer if they didn't make a third game to try and correct it, but they probably will. They should leave it as it is- A fantastic first game, and a very, very disappointing sequel. Expand

Plus, there was a very inappropriate scene that did not need to go in the game. The general gameplay doesn't improve much from its predecessor. You sneak around, you engage in a firefight. I guess you can now swing on ropes.

The story is something that didn't need to be told. The ending is the same is the first game, the player didn't end up doing the one thing they meant to do at the start of the game. However, the journey in the first game was worthwhile despite the destination. The journey in the 2nd game is excruciating. It's not enjoyable to replay considering the player is mostly alone for the most part. You spend a few hours to save a character that dies anyway. Nothing you do in the game seemed fruitful. Everyone lost everything they had. One gains a foster brother and a hope to meet an organization they used to be in despite everyone they know it in is already dead. Maybe it's a setup for the final game, the nail to Ellie's coffin? I can almost imagine the third game will be Ellie being forcibly killed for the vaccine by this surviving Fireflies group. Whatever the story will be, I won't bother finding out.

Too many plot holes, accompanied by decisions from the main protagonists that make little to no sense. After the first game and playing as Joel through all the struggles and waiting 7 years to do it again, to not get the chance to again was a disappointment but to have his death within the first hour was even worse. Feeling emotionally flat while playing the game afterwards. Setting out as Ellie for revenge, this is a big difference to the Ellie from the first game the spark and joy is gone from her outlook on life, Rage and brutality replace them. Going through the story I enjoyed a lot of the new features, nothing better than a silencer headshot. Stalkers are a much better enemies and always felt anxious when encountering them. Exploring is great and finding all the collectibles of how people are living through the outbreak are intriguing and I do like the Dina and Ellie interactions within the open world, which when your playing day 1 in Seattle are amazing. Flashbacks with Ellie and Joel hit home just how much you miss playing as them and bring the first game vibes back. Seeing the heartbreak when Joel finally confesses what he did in the previous game and Ellie reaction and her leaving Joel. On the flip side when you flip to playing as Abby - Joel’s killer, the flashback seem to drag and this is where the game pacing lags abit. I get what naughty dog was trying to do with Abby, anyone who has had their dad killed would of course want revenge on the person. But we had already played through a 20+ hour game as Joel connected to the character waited 7 years to play as him again and to have him killed and then to play as his killer, personally not a fan and I couldn’t connect to her as a character and all of her friends are throw away characters and forgettable and I had no attachment to them at all. Maybe if this game was all around Abby and then maybe Part 3 was the Ellie/Abby face off there could’ve been abit more investment with Abby side of things. But personally I never was fully invested and was just trying to get through to where we had left Ellie. What I will say about Abby part of the game is it definitely has the bigger standout moments. The ratking boss fight in the hospital a favourite, The climb up the building and crane, dodging tommy sniper rounds, fleeing through the forest with only your melee attacks against stalkers and the fight and flee of the Scars island while burning are all standout exciting moments. Ellie has some great campaign moments too (the first encounter with the scars a personally favourite, hearing those whistles for the first time) Abby moments standout more and are more memorable which the developers maybe have Abby these better moments so people could enjoy playing as the character more. Lev I felt was thrown in to show a compassion side to Abby but this connection felt forced and didn’t really have enough time to develop a connection with them the same way Joel and Ellie in the first game. Then we play as Abby fighting Ellie, and in this part I hated it I just wanted to get through it as quickly as I could didn’t enjoy it one bit. Then we get to the cutscene and when Abby holds a knife to pregnant Dina and Ellie says she’s pregnant and Abby response is “Good” and is about to slit her throat before Lev stops her. This shows that Abby is still a monster and hasn’t change, I get she wants revenge for her friends and Owen and Ellie had killed Mel who was pregnant as well. But at least Ellie felt physical sick from her actions and was shaking, Abby was going to enjoy killing Dina, both Abby and Ellie could both be consider monsters with their brutality but at least Ellie was likeable. Then Ellie goes for revenge one last time leaving her life behind and goes through the rattlers picking up a great silenced machine gun, finds Abby tortured and has one final brutally battle against her, I personally didn’t care if Abby lived or die, I was over it the story had drained me and I was done. The first game I could pick up and replay again and again. This game I’m not sure if I could commit to playing again no matter how go the gameplay is, when the story is as depressing and unenjoyable id rather play something else for minding numbing gameplay goodness. This game is one you have to play to make up your own mind I can see why people will love it, but I’d highly recommend waiting until the price drops before committing to it, in case you end up hating it. All I can say is The last of us part 3 will be interesting if they ever make one. Expand

I loved TLOU and the Left Behind DLC, basically because they combined great graphics, sound and gameplay with compelling storylines. The good first: TLOU2 is hands down the best looking and sounding game on PS4. Props to those guys for raising the bar to a standard that won't be met again until the PS5. There's great action scenes in TLOU2: riding and shooting, chilling boss encounters and creepily dark rooms full of clickers etc. I would say 10/10 for Graphics and sound and a solid 8 for gameplay, which is basically the same as in TLOU part 1. But the story is just such a jumbled mess. Characters making decisions that are completely out of character, new characters you don't give a **** about, an unnecessarily jumbled timeline with needless flashbacks and cutscenes that just seem to drag on forever (and you actually have to click/walk through to add to the tedium). To top it all off, an underlying message of "Revenge is bad, nobody's really good" that is layered onto it so thickly throughout the game, like the cheap cheese on a Subway sandwich. Likewise: it nastily clings to your palate and leaves a bad taste in your mouth. When you finally come to the (equally illogical) ending of it all, you just don't give a **** anymore about any of the characters. This franchise is ruined by the ridiculous messaging so obviously pushed by the lead storyteller. And I'm not talking about LGBT representation, something most fans like me are completely cool with and was masterfully done in the Left Behind DLC. I'm talking about the typical post-modern crap: the "lol-nothing-matters, everything is morally gray, there is no good and bad" trope that pervades the writing and makes it indeed impossible to feel anything real for any of the characters, because they act like most people would never do, even under these stressful circumstances. At the end of it all, I was just left with the biggest "Meh" ever and was glad that I didn't have to go though endless cutscenes and backstory on characters I don't give a ish about anymore. Druckmann really needs to take the L on ruining a great franchise. If ever there is a Part 3, I hope the whole writing/storyboard team that did this gets the boot first. He's now accusing everyone critical of the abysmal story as being bigots etc., where apart from the usual pathetic trolls, most ppl are just genuinely pissed about a story with truck-sized plotholes and him pissing over every character from the original franchise. Sorry about the review turning into a rant, but I've looked forward to this game so much and like many, had the experience completely ruined by this lame story. So 0/0 for the story and a big FU for Druckmann for ruining what should've been game of the year for me. Expand

I'm not a reviewer so I'm gonna keep this short and simple. This game was a huge disappointment to me. Playing as Abby made me grow impatient because I simply could not for the life of me like her. She is not Ellie or Joel, I simply don't care for her. Don't get me wrong - the graphics are phenomenal, gameplay is fun (although nothing has really changed since the 1st game) - but my god, the plot is just so.. meh. 7 years for this? ugh. Expand

Naughty Dog!!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There's only one thing that really hinders this game. The story. Everything else is excellent. The voice acting, the graphics, just the over all execution of the technical side is pretty great. I am a big fan of the first game, and i liked the simplicity of the crafting. The stealth left some to be desired but I never looked at it as a straight stealth game.

The story is.. Its just ham handed in how they try to get you to care even an ounce about the characters from the outside perspective. These characters literally come into your home in the beginning and bludgeon you're beloved character to death. While i sincerely believe their reasons why they did it, as a fan of the first game and the main characters I simply wanted one thing and that was to kill those people (in game duh). I wanted nothing to do with them but for them to suffer and be scared I was coming for them. This is not what we got. We play as them and the game gives us all these nice and caring perspectives and all the reason why they think we should like the character Abbey but really. I couldn't care less about her and her journey. I wanted nothing to do with her or her friends. I loathed the entirety of her side of the game play. I do not know what drove the writers/creators to go this route but I just can't wrap my head around why they did it. Why did they think this was a good move?

The plotline gives you a very bad first impression on one of the protagonists and assumes you will understand her feelings later. It is a very bold and arrogant approach that can easily piss off the players. No rational writer should do something like this because human is more emotional than logical in most scenarios, especially when playing game as entertainment.
In addition to the ill-organized plotline, the game makes very blatant depiction of excessive violence that I do not believe is necessary. Some of the scenes could be very disturbing, to the extent of "grotesque". Though it is justified by the restricted rating, I would not recommend something as violent as this to anyone I care about.

This game is very disturbing. I don't know how anyone can play this and not feel uncomfortable. I think the story is horrendous but the visuals and sound are pretty amazing so I'll give it that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've decided to play the game well after its release, far away from the early reviews. As many others, I've unfortunately seen the leaks and I wanted to give the game a try anyway. Just to clarify, I am a huge fan of Last of Us, I'm a veteran gamer and I was overwhelmed by how much emotion I had to deal with while playing it.

Let's start with the pros: it's truly magnificent, period. Incredible lighting, attention to details, facial expressions, weapon upgrade animations, level design, well anything Naughty Dog is famous for. The numerous accessibility features must not be overlooked: for a lot of people, this is life-changing. I also like some touching aspects, like Ellie and Dina interacting with the baby, you don't see that very often in a game and it's the positive aspect of Naughty Dog wanting to be more 'inclusive'.

Now, the cons: everything that made Last of Us unforgettable, namely Joel-Ellie relation, character development and charisma, general pacing, the 'hope-and-beauty-vs-danger-violence' duality are completely absent. Joel's death is very poorly executed (no pun intended) and false advertising by Naughty Dog is simply unacceptable. Side characters are uninteresting, you really don't care for their demise/death, be Abby's or Ellie's side. Remember Tess who dies after 2 hours? Of course you do, it hit hard. Remember Bill? Of course, so well written. Remember Sam and Henry? Of course you do.

Now, Abby. You simply cannot like her, despite the pathetic multiple attempts (the dog scene, fear of height, hospital flashback, etc.). She will go down in History for the worst sex scene EVER, that's a feat, I'll concede it. Lev, Yara who cares? Nobody. Manny? Shot in the head and everybody screams YEAH. The only time I felt something aching was Owen and Mel's death scene.

Ellie...well, her rage-filled slaughter fest is un-Ellie, especially when she kills someone for nothing (Rattler). The only interesting character is Tommy, thank God.

To wrap this review up, it seems, judging by what we know about Druckmann, that killing the father figure, straight White male was not story-driven...let's feature a very muscular woman, a trans kid AND a lesbian couple raising a child as leads instead! I've nothing against LGBT, really, but it's simply too much to be credible. Nobody asks for a macho White dude killing everyone at will. A little balance would have been a little bit more enjoyable.

It's a huge disappointment, but the game itself is still a good game and doesn't deserve neither a 0, nor a 10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me start off by saying that I, like many here was a huge fan of the first game. I have been looking forward to this game for years and avoided any spoilers that came out. With that said, The Last of Us Part 2 is a beautiful looking game, the graphics, environments, and fight sections are extremely well done. The Flashbacks with Ellie and Joel were great, especially the museum sequence. The voice acting is also great for the most part. HOWEVER, this games biggest downfall is it’s pacing, the story absolutely fails to make you sympathize with Abby after she murders Joel. Which in its own right doesn’t even make much sense with how it happens, but I digress. The fact that the game constantly pulls you out of climax moments for flashbacks just completely takes away from the pacing of the story. By the time I played Abbys half of the story and was seeing her flashbacks with the WLF and Owen and Mel, I found myself really disconnected because I had already killed them as Ellie several hours before. It would have made more sense to me to play as Abby first, or at least play as Ellie for a day and then Abby. I completely understand why Abby killed Joel, was it justified? In this world I’d say yeah probably, Joel killed plenty of people for less, however if you’re going to do that and then make me play as his killer you’ve got to set it up in a better way than was shown here. The supporting characters were all fine, none of them really seemed to be given much time to shine though, I did really like Jesse and Dina and even Owen, but again, really hard to connect with him when I knew he was already dead. Lev and Yara were also fine, but not given a ton to do, you go on a fetch quest to save Yara that took an hour only for her to die almost immediately after so that was fun. I also think the ending was way too drawn out, I’m not even upset Ellie didn’t kill Abby in the end, although I think it probably would’ve made more sense. But introducing a whole new faction at the end of the game and fighting through hordes of them just to save Abby to fight her, when for all Ellie knows she’s already dead just didn’t make much sense to me. Anyway in conclusion, I don’t think this is the worst game ever made, not at all, this game does some things so right, but the pacing of the story make it such a slog to play at times. In the end I probably won’t replay this one, but if you catch a good sale it’s worth checking out at least for the gameplay. Expand

Where Part II falls down is some clumsy writing that pulls you out of an otherwise immersive story with a stunningly crafted visuals world and excellent gameplay. Some of the character motivations are just completely plot-driven and feel so forced as to make some of what you are doing - or rather, why you are doing it - feel stupid and a little too unbelievable. Similarly, the pacing was a little clumsy with the game falling off a cliff at the mid-way point.

Also - the decision to have a heavily pregnant woman travel out into hostile territory on patrol and have her climbing about and fighting etc. was... well just plain weird. I'm all for body positivity - but that was completely insane.

I don't have a problem with any of the characters themselves and disagree with most of the negative reviews. But some of the writing is definitely just plain bad.

Very much hope TLOU3 can be a thing. It's a great world that deserves more storytelling.

On a gameplay level, it hasn't changed much from the first. For the first half of the game I found it to be satisfying but it starts to become boring after the first 15 hours. (Even though the second half arguably gives you a better kit.)

I have faith that Naughty Dog can still put out amazing games, but unfortunately this one just missed the mark.

After finishing this game yesterday. I have very split feelings towards this game. Personally I was expecting more parts about Joel , Ellie even Dina. Abby’s story is forced and pretentious. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the gameplay and the environment design. My heart is broken with the ending. As I played guitar for many years I could imagine and feel the pain of losing the fingers ( I hate this plot) , and I also hate how they picture everyone in this game so pathetic. In the TLOU 1, as least there were some hopes and brightness. TLOU 2 is pure dark and sadness. I couldn’t sleep well after this game. Ellie’s ptsd trauma haunts me as well :(

As a movie , the cutscenes , the flashbacks (especially Joel’s part) moved me quite a lot. I appreciate the emotional thrill brought by this game. Never had any game given me this feeling. As a game , there are moments make me don’t wanna play, I suffer more than I enjoy. Not sure if it’s a good game supposed to be. If you wanna stay mentally healthy and positive. probably this is not the cup of tea.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
