Item management can be a little annoying at the start but once you get upgrades and more inventory slots it stops being a problem. Space travel is really cool and can literally take hours (real time) unless you have a warp drive, which will cut that down to minutes depending on the distance, similar to Elite: Dangerous.

It can get a little repetitive in places so its good to mix up what you do but its also strangely addictive, making me want to keep playing to see whats at the centre of the universe.

After about 20 hours of gameplay, it's safe to say that while the game was extremely overhyped (sort of Sony's fault), this game is still amazingly fun, IF you go in not with the overblown expectations of what it could be. Plain and simple, the game focuses on collecting material, upgrading, and doing it all over again. Does it look like what was originally shown? No. Not too many games ever do (there are exceptions). The fact that a 15 man team made this though is amazing.

I personally am playing the game in a way where I do explore planets, I do collect material, scan plants and animals, but I also am after the lore of the game and chasing The Atlas (whatever it is). It all depends how you play the game.

Don't go into this game thinking it is some big shooter, space flight, massive online game. It's a single-player, massive universe, collection game with a lore that you can choose to follow. Take the time to enjoy the planets and relax and you will find enjoyment out of it. Just maybe not what you were thinking.

The fact that Hello Games plans to support this for a while is nice. They have updates in the works to add more, so I feel this will be a bit like Minecraft in the sense where more and more options and gameplay elements will be implemented. The game will build itself over time, you just have to give it that time.

In the distance, bright neon stalactites and giant crystals peak out of a cave entrance in the wall of a massive crater. The shadow of a pterodactyl-vulture-snake flying overhead crosses the meadow, and you decide to blast off into space to see what other places you might discover.

No Man's Sky is all about these kind of moments, of creating your own purpose and story, in the context of wherever you happen to be in the galaxy.

Some will only see a game that could have been other things, or a game that is missing things. Some will only see the twitchy draw distance, wonky UI, and the mechanics behind the procedural generation. They will hate this game, some passionately. They will bombard review sites with multiple bad reviews, trying desperately to bury a game that wasn't made for them, they don't understand and can't enjoy.

Others will understand. It's not a game about thrills and cliffhangers, scripted events, and handholding like Uncharted or Mass Effect. It's not about chatting with your buddies over the headset, moving up the leaderboards, or buying the coolest looking armor to show off to your teammates, like Call of Duty or Destiny.

This game is about going off, completely and utterly alone, and finding your own way in the unknown. It's about struggling, journeying, and observing.

It's flawed, buggy, and wonky (at launch, with the promise of lots of updates from the developers). It's also beautiful, breathtaking, and addictive. To some, anyway. To others, it's an ugly, pointless, overhyped, boring mess. You will probably either fall into one camp or the other. Lucky if you can enjoy it, pity if you can't.

Travel between planets is seamless from surface to surface. The visual style is simple but gorgeous, and the thrill of touching down on a new planet for the first time and exploring the beautiful, immense diversity of it all is truly thrilling to me. I completely avoided the fiasco of No Man's Sky's promotional trail/release by simply not caring about the game. The fantastic review by hbomberguy alerted me to a niche appeal and piqued my interest, and I just bought it for a tenner in the PSN's fantastic Summer Sale. For three days I've binged it nearly non-stop, both alone and with my gf, who is enjoying the experience of exploration and discovery as much as I am.

I’ve found planets with vast lakes and squidgy terrain, ‘paradise planets’ with green skies and green rivers that run through deep canyons, desolate moon-like planets with tall mountains and a palpable sense of loneliness, mushroom planets with toxic atmospheres, and barren planets with little to see or do besides mine the abundant outcrops of valuable minerals. I’ve seen creatures enormous, tiny, cute, and horrifying. I’ve seen haunting monuments to civilizations long-dead half-buried in the middle of nowhere, and bizarre arcing bands of shining minerals streaking out of the ground. I’ve seen soaring peaks and deep ravines and scorched, featureless plains, and strange floating islands peppering twisted purple landscapes. I’ve been hunted through snowy forests by predators that make my skin crawl, and fought off pirates in asteroid belts above the looming spectres of ocean planets. I’m a couple of dozen hours in and while there is a certain definite degree of repetition in aspects of the worlds I’ve been to (because this is an indie game made by a small team of human devs and not the Holy Grail made by Jesus Christ himself), I’ve not lost the sense of wonder when first setting foot on a new planet. I have no doubt that there will be a point where I feel as if I’m just going through the motions, but I haven’t hit that point yet, and for £10 I certainly feel like I’ve got value for my money. I’m also certain that I’ll pick the game up again after I’m done with it for the first time, as there is simply so much to see, not to mention the fact that Hello Games keep adding content for free and thereby increasing the amount available for people to do.

If a game about chilled and contemplative exploration and discovery doesn't sound like your cup of tea, then nothing Hello Games did or didn't do will make you like this game. But if the idea of touching down on an alien moon, the other planets in the system looming in the sky like ghosts, an endless expanse of terrain unexplored stretching in front of you, terrain that no human may ever lay eyes on again, if this sounds exciting, then I highly recommend getting the game. Many of the complaints in the most helpful reviews here have been addressed and fixed. The PS4 version is currently the most stable, and it's only getting better from here.

The way the game feels when I leave atmosphere and get out into space or breach atmosphere and land still continues to feel liberating, like "finally I am free to explore the Universe." It comes from a deep place. The smoothness of the transition is impressive. Let me simply begin by stating that I intend to be completely honest with this review. Contrary to the multitude of extremely negative reviews, this game is NOT a bad game. It is by no means perfect, and has a multitude of flaws, however, overall it is a fun and unique experience unlike anything currently on the market. The biggest problem with the game is not the game in and of itself, but more so the way that the game was perceived by the gaming community. When No Man's Sky was first introduced to the public several years ago, hype went through the roof. The beautiful setting, a promise of billions of varied planets, and new and unique game elements such as naming discovered planets and creatures as well as seamless planet surface to orbit spaceship travel all seemed too good to be true. While the trailer did an excellent job of amazing us, it was also rather vague and mysterious. This led to people interpreting the game in all sorts of different ways. Some people imagined massive planetary shoot-outs. Others imagined roaming the stars with friends. Some imagined encountering massive alien cities and deep, complex character side quests within these cities. Because of an initial lack of clarification with what this game actually was meant to be... this game became all things to all people, and our expectations exceeded what was ever even possible or meant to be. Hello Games did try to tone down the hype, explaining that their would be no giant cities, multiplayer would be nigh impossible, and procedural generation would prevent any "scripted" story line. However, this came a bit late, and at this point people's imaginations had taken over. No Man's Sky had become more than an upcoming game, it had become an idea. The idea that a small studio, which actually cared about it's fans, could create a masterpiece that would out-do even the richest of AAA developers. A game that would have everything. A game that would redefine gaming as we know it. Their was no way that this game could ever live up to such lofty expectations, and now fans are faced with the reality that this wasn't the game that "they" as individuals had imagined. While Hello Games tried to tone down the hype and explain that this was primarily an exploration game, people already had their own views of what this game "would and should be" stuck in their heads. When I began playing, I too had my lofty expectations. I really did hope for an infinite space Skyrim/ Minecraft of sorts. However, when I was able to take a step back, and play this game the way that developers had intended for me to play it, rather than the way I had imagined it would be, I found that the game was actually rather good. It may not have been what I wanted or expected, but that didn't mean it was bad. I enjoy being able to go down to a planet and not know what to expect. When you do find other intelligent species (NPC's) scattered sparsely throughout the galaxy it's a cool and rewarding experience. Their are A LOT of things to do, some more in depth than others. The complaint that their isn't enough to do is a rather silly one in my opinion. I've spent hours of fun exploring just one planet, and never getting bored. I've searched caves for rare materials, looked for outposts where I've come across some very interesting NPC scientists, found a distress signal pointing to ruins of an ancient civilization, searched ancient glyphs to learn a new alien language, found chests filled with ship, suit, and weapon upgrade blueprints, documented mushroom deer, come across outposts that had been abandoned hastily in response to what appeared to be experiments gone wrong, Found giant Alien Monoliths which have... done.... something.... cool? and more. And that was all on one planet. This game may not be what you imagined, but it is not bad. Not bad at all. So for now, I'll be drifting among the stars looking for my next planetary adventure. Expand

Look and feel: The ultra-colourful 70s style sci-fi art and explorative theme are a breath of fresh air after all the moodily lit dystopian shooters that have hit the console since its launch.
There are some graphical quirks when coming down onto the planet and some of the textures look low-res up-close but based on the fact that these are procedurally generated, they should be forgiven.
The soundtrack complements the game well and the sound effects work well.

Gameplay: The exploration of new worlds is an incredible experience to start with but does become a little repeatative after 20 or so worlds. Also, the variances in their algorythms begin to get stretched at the same marker, as the flora & fauna begin to look a little familiar.
Shooting on the ground isn't great and not loads better in the skies but it's not the reason for playing this game...
Trading & building your language skills is strangely compelling as you move from system to system but the inventory system is a patch or two away from being workable.

Summary: If you're open to new experiences and have a penchant for 70's sci-fi, you'll love it... If you want a solid space shoot-em-up with a strong story line, Destiny may be more your thing.

Once you fix your starter ship, you'll also fly your starship. Keep in mind there are three speeds: slow (RT trigger) and pulse (O button), and a super fast speed only for space (L1 and R1 aka bumper keys).

Hints: learn words, explore buildings, ships and space stations carefully, and scan animals and plants for $. There are three inventories (press trackpad and use L1 and R1 to switch between them). And if only there was a way to make the just about everything work better. No man sky is great but not perfect, it's an exploration game where each planet is a discovery.

It's not for everyone, if "Enjoy the journey" describe your type of player, if you explored areas in WoW just because they looked cool you'll love it, if you play game for quests and directed content or for game mechanics you'll hate it. There are nearly no "quest" content and the game mechanics (Crafting, trading) are pretty bad.

Now even for exploration it isn't the "perfect" game. It's missing procedural generation for a few key things that would have made it perfect : station structure is globally always the same, there are only a few station / sentient ET design in the game (3), no generated quests or even randomness in actions possible by NPC (All NPCs in station type "shelter" do nearly the same thing). Also the star structures are pretty boring, often 3/4 planets, not gas giants, no planet very far or very big...
Even the planet grounds are pretty even, no big mountains, no profund caves, it's a globally flat world.
Also a strangely populated one, there are hundreds of 1-person habitats on each planet but no ancient ruins or cities.

But what's currently generated (Planetary color scheme, fauna, plants and a few variations on heightmap) is extremely nice and produce impressive results.

I can only hope for the game to continue like minecraft did, for years, adding small touches everywhere and making everything more diverse and interesting.

If you like the idea of surviving (e.g. Minecraft) but would love to explore space and would love to take your time to enjoy the experience, then this game is probably for you. This game can be somewhat repetitive since it's very straight forward (gather resources, upgrade your ship, suit, go to new planet closer to core of the galaxy). The best way to describe this game is that it's a survivor/exploring game. When I say explore I mean it literally since the developers don't know what's on every planet that's why you get units (currency) for discoveries.

This game isn't a space combat simulator, nor is it an amazing space shooter. It really reminds me of Spore, it's amazing because of the uniqueness of the game itself, not because the game itself is out of this world (no pun intended).

This works so well as a kind of snowglobe-esque homage to space opera universes, with on-point color schema, beautiful sound design, and a killer soundtrack, if the snowglobe was constantly changing around and you could do a *couple* of things to interact with it.

It's also an actual artwork - the creators intend to express a love of discovery and the feeling of loneliness within infinite possibilities, like if you're the new guy in a big city and just don't get what's going on. It also really hits on the idea that beauty can strike you in weird ways when you're also racing to survive.

If you want a great space simulator, don't get this game. If you want a great crafting game, don't get this game. If you want the best procedural generation of all time with wildly varied creatures, still don't get this game, because that's a little limited at the moment. But if you're all about exploring the weirdness of infinity, driven by a simple system to keep things interesting and a broad but well-written text based story, go for it. I did, and I think it's a good time.

After coming off Dark Souls series, FTL and a hundred other games that just want to face f--k you, No Man's Sky is a pleasure. I did not follow the hype, and I hate survival games, but I love this.

A little preface: my father recently passed away and of course, there is a lot of guilt and regret that follows the death of a parent. When I discovered that I can name planets, animals, galaxies and so on, I started naming everything after my dad or, "is he here?" "Planet Dad" and so on. In a sense, my trip through the galaxy becomes an epic journey to connect with my father on some level, even though I can't. In my mind, he is literally one planet or galaxy ahead of me, and since the game is "endless" I can continue to mourn and play.

Besides this unforeseen positive effect, the game is marvelous. You can't die (well, you can, but it's highly unlikely), the music is a delight and it runs like a polished game should (even though it has many rough edges). Besides, when was the last time you took a moment to relax and just stare into the distance once you've ascended a giant mountain. No game has kept me this captivated and content.

10/10 would play for therapy again.

As i'm sure you are all aware now, this is not a first person action shooter. Yes there are elements of this within the game, but that is certainly not what this is about. It's about exploring, spending four hours wandering around a planet to find whatever you are looking for and it is amazingly satisfying when that time and effort leads to a Journey Milestone.

I like this game, a lot. It's original, it can be exciting, it can be tedious at times but, come on, we can't have excitement all the time, otherwise you might never appreciate when something truly is.... exciting!

NMS has come a long way since its release last year. Certainly, it's deserving of the criticism that more should have been in the game on launch. Base building, the new tech system, freighters, and increased alien interaction have addressed many early complaints. While there are a LOT of criticisms that can be leveled at the marketing for this game, the end result is a unique experience that (while is not for everyone) is at least worth a rent by any lover of the art of game design.

Many reviewers have arrived at their negative score because they are viewing this as a traditional game where you "beat" it and get some kind of payoff. One with action, bosses, etc. NMS is not that kind of game, it's probably better to think of it as a flight sim or art museum than the high sci-fi of Elite Dangerous.

There is lore, and a story, but really it just adds to the atmosphere. The universe is vast, the planets are stunning (more diversity on that front has been added as well). the game has a lively community and upcoming updates promise to add more to the Euclid.

The game lets you just figure things out and doesn't tell you how things really work which is fine by me. An eight, yeah, I think that's fair, right? Right? How can we even put a number on this game?! All anyone can do is talk about their experience because everyone's experience and tastes will be different, and therefore, we'll find differing levels of value in this.

Personally, though, I find NMS to be relaxing, awe-inspiring, and totally different than anything I've played lately.

This is something different, and its not for everyone. For me, its one of the best experiences I had on my ps4. The planets are beautiful, and the felling of loneliness while you are exploring plus the amazing soundtrack, create an amazing mix of sensations.

If love space, and planetary exploration, you should ignore the critics and buy it, it is really amazing.

About a week before launch a saw a walkthrough video from the guy that "leaked" it on Youtube and found myself somewhat interested. So I thought I'd give it a go... and ironically, it got it's claws into me.

It was so completely different from most games I play, I found myself fixed on finding "what was around the next corner" (or next galaxy in this case).

But that intrigue will only last so long before everything starts to feel very much the same. Saying that, it gave me about 40-50 hours before I decided to stop - making sure I was still in a "happy place" with my experience.

And that was the key for me - low expectations, and knowing when I'd had enough.

Another big influence for me was the sound design... amazing! It drew me in and really gave weight and scale to the whole thing.

Don't pay full price, but definitely give it a go and some point.

This game IS for you if you like to explore, scavenge, and travel the expansive world known as No Man's Sky. I love this game for many reasons, the first is being able to name everything you discover. You can name the system, the planets, the moons, the fauna, and even specific points on the planet. This gives me so much excitement because I have a huge imagination and want to release that. The pure joy of this game is exploration. I love warping into a new system and getting surprised at what lays there waiting for me to discover it.

This game is for those who want that sense of enjoyment discovering a new system or naming a weird looking creature. It is not a game for the hard core gamer who wants an objective to complete. No Man's Sky gives very little direction and I love it about that.

The reason I gave it an 8, was because the activities run short after a few hours of exploring. I wish I had a few objectives to find or complete on each planet that switched up the gameplay just a little. But other than that, this game is phenomenal.

Nothing more and nothing less. It's not the best game I've ever played but it's definitely not a 5/10 either.

The only strike against this game is its price. i think that at 40$, it would've been a home run. No one is mad at a quiet, exploration game with seemingly no point if they didn't dish out more than 40$. This game is 80$ plus 12 tax in Quebec. That's just too much.

I had to correct my rating from 2 to 8. The developers have really put themselves into it and made a good game out of this catastrophe from the beginning.
Many futures that were missing at launch are now in the game and the needs of the players have been addressed. The game is now really a space exploration game with Survieval elements. Good jop hello Games.

For me it's a game where I'm truly feeling the "you get out of it what you put into it" vibe - AND, if you had expectations, as "No Man's Sky" was hyped more then this summers blockbuster movie "Suicide Squad," I can see why some are disappointed they didn't become space pirates who could meet up with other people day 1. It's vast, almost daunting in scope and it has a bit of a learning curve with how you outfit your multi-tool, ship and suit. However, it is very rewarding if you take the time to tinker and explore your surroundings. If you are looking to explore planets, and I mean SERIOUSLY explore, then the game is going to be perfect for you. If you are looking for fast action, then you are going to be severely let down. (It can become a slog of mining to fix and upgrade your gear and some of the actions become repetitive, but you find that in a lot of games these days.) I will say that this is definitely a one of a kind experience even though it has a very familiar look and feel to it. Expand

Despite all this, there are much to like about MMS even in its current state. The gathering of resources and upgrading of the suit and getting new ships, a bit of a grind if approached with the wrong mind set, is a nice part of the game. And I for one really enjoys this part. The Atlas quest lines is also a fine and intriguing part of the game.

While this is nowhere near what many had envisioned, player wise - obvious when looking at the review scores, had there not been so much hype this game would have score A LOT higher - but also developer wise. It's hard to ignore the feeling that PlayStation rushed the release - as where the case with Driveclub, which also tanked at release.

Perhaps developers should be more careful when choosing Sony as publishers in the future.

The music and atmosphere is very compelling. I even enjoy in those moments when some feature of the game lets me down or doesn't take me far enough that HG seemed to be heading in a certain positive, creative direction. For example, much of what doesn't work seems to be part of a larger idea that they were trying to ship but couldn't, which has some kind of trace appeal for me. It's one thing for a game to be broken and incomplete without direction. This seems to be a game launched early as a service to hype-biters, as well as a game that can be patched into pretty effectively to make good on some pre-launch promises.

I love the look. I love the feeling that I'm in a deep, sprawling, endless universe. I lightly agree that the early game inventory management is a little pinched, but it graduates pretty quickly if you make sense of the stuff you should be looking for to upgrade your situation. I'm a fan of how playful the flora and fauna are presented to the player. The rhythm of visiting planets and experiencing vastly different terrestrial situations is nice. There are moments before breaking into the atmosphere of a world that are really full of a unique wonder. What could be down there?

The bad. Repeated content isn't so hot, and I find this to be a clear issue with the NPC characters. There just isn't really enough there for me to grab at fully enough. At first, the whole game felt like this loose amalgamation of Star Control II, EO, Wing Commander, and Red Faction (to name a few). I encountered lonely aliens at far-end outpost worlds, and it felt like something really special. Now that I'm a few hours in, the magic is dulled. You can only encounter so many aliens needing some kind of arbitrary amount of X material or prodding reaction before it just isn't that fun anymore. Throw in the idea that there are a myriad repeat schematics to be had from said tasks, and you're just better off analyzing alien plant matter.

    Honestly.

Space stations also need some work. Tied in with the idea that the repeated content just doesn't really work is the idea that the sole purpose of space station thus far seems to be waiting in the docking bay for NPCs to land so that you can buy up their cheap materials that turn a buck. Add in the idea that you can be sitting in said docking bays with multiple instances of the same character, and you've got yourself a gaming situation that feels a little rushed.

All told, I love the game and where it seems to be headed via future patches and so on. I don't care at all about multiplayer and the games apparent lack thereof. In fact, I feel like the game is better for having no human interactions whatsoever. I don't mind the flying, so long as the flight axis is inverted. The combat is a little basic and weird, but it's passable. Space combat is specifically satisfying when you get into a groove.

Altogether, it's an 8/10. The art direction takes it a far way, it has some room to grow, the exploration is unparalleled, the product taken out of the context of the hype and the pre-launch promise ring is impressive.

Great game. I'll play it for a while.

When you are able to leave your planet and later your solar system at last, you will be awed by the freedom of space exploration, new discoveries, and the mystery of your own personal space opera.

To this point, the game is among the best ever. After this point, it is admittedly repetitive, and you will be frustrated with very limited inventory space, nagging hp, hazard, and fuel bars, and the realization that you may have already seen the best of the game that you will ever discover, as each encounter may or may not be more or less interesting, each planet or solar system you visit may or may not be worth the time.

Some players are paradoxically doomed to endure dead, boring worlds with naught to do, while others may by random chance have an incredible game experience as dictated by in basis, a roll of the dice.

No game can boast as much content, but the quality of that content is lacking. I have to give my review a +/-1 margin of error as well, because a person's experience could be shaped entirely by the randomization of their starting point and subsequent journey. So this rates as a 7-9.

Even when taken only to the point that it starts becoming repetitive, it is well worth the trip, because that initial set of thrills in the game still has more longevity than the likes of for example, the highly rated (by me as well) Uncharted 4, which I finished in about 10 hours and haven't touched since.

We see lots of people saying the planets are repetitive and not variate enough. Well, we knew that when they said it would have infinite planets, a company could either make some planets and work hard to make them very different or make millions that look kind of the same. Either way, I'm impressed with the diversity overall and the outstanding achievement of this indie company. I wish more companies could pitch ideas like this into the comunity and actually have incentive from the people to keep doing so.

Sadly, this kind of public reaction we see towards No Man's Sky will negatively impact the creative game makers and big companies, holding them towards safer and (ironically) repetitive ideas that seem to be widely accepted.

My overall experience with the game has been positive and entertaining. It's a game I can always sit and enjoy while listening to podcasts, music or even the amazing soundtrack it has.

What is irritating is why even fly through the cosmos they could've have easily gave me a play style of residing on a planet for longer but instead i have to give up all my hard work over and over so that it feels like i don,t even wanna look at anything any more since im practically obliterating each planet I explore by never visiting again, the 8 is since i am bringing up the score a tad but not witch any kind of 10 review, they are speaking of adding freighters and bases however it should have been day 1, and things like that would have easily brought hours and hours of gameplay, space stations buying things and colonizing even to the slightest degree would be sooooooo badass, on a side note I shot a whole in a random astroid in the middle of firggin no where came back to it hours later and there it was.... THAT was amazing for some reason, hey great base game add some cool permanency features and it will be great, and i know its about EXPLORING im just more of a builder and I don't care about moving forward at LIGHTSPEED I'd much rather conquer the galaxy at a snails pace personally Just adds more depth and after I'm done like im satisfied with the amount Ive done ill head out, but im at the point to were im like why even explore theres too many planets im going to see and no point to it, i put my mind in wonderment mode yes but its like i find myself exploring less and less cause i know im gonna just space jump repeatedly for a minial cost of easily found elements, RIP my awesome planet Weverflow wish i could jump back and hang out there with some sort of space jumping facility or whatever it would take like a warpgate and i could move it slowly were i go so id have an anchor for myself, thats all this game needs, Im hopeful Expand

If you've ever yearned to explore amongst the stars in a one man/woman ship then this may be the game for you. Also, the procedurally generated music (how I don't know!!!) is beautiful too. Expand

    I'm enjoying No Man's Sky.

If like me you're interested in the journey and you're not needing your shootyman's twitch-reflex CoD-tested 24/7 then the chances are you'll find something to like in No Man's Sky. Even if you dive into the space battles with a serious upgraded ship.

There's something for most people here.

It's just not the game that you hyped it up to be.

Gather resources by trying to avoid to destroy the nature (or you will be punished be drones). You will learn about technology and culture of a galactic race, trade goods with them to earn credits to buy other goods or even new ships. to have more capacity or better weapons, etc. But that's just a tool for you, to explore more und more. You can spend days exploring just one planet and will not even know half of the planet.
If you love what you read here, you will love No Man's Sky. If you want more or something different, well then the game is not for you.
I'm very curios what the developers bring with add-ons. As far as they announced, they don't know it and want too see what people like and want...
Well for my part: Much bigger ships for interplanetary mining and trading
And yes, multiplayer could be much fun, but I don't know how to fit it in, not to destroy the lonely-explorer feeling. Maybe a option for friends to start on the same planet...

I think the problem with a lot of folks it that they're following the 'tutorial' too strictly which tends to take you on a quick, repetitive path. I ignored the initial planet jump when instructed and ended up spending 4.5 hours on my starting planet just exploring, and was pleased with the progress I made there alone. Like I said, I can see this getting repetitive, but for me personally, it's a great experience. I'm sure once they add base building (which they said might be in the next patch), people will find better ways to utilize the resources instead of constantly recharging/refueling items. What it is, is a exploration and survival game, with survival being a main focus of the game. I didn't even know that till last night when watching interviews, but I still took the chance anyway. There isn't much of a story and there simply wont be. The interviews and such have stated it has cinematics and such to start, but is a survival game and a single player experience where you may come across another player later on. It mostly is gathering resources, exploring planets, and getting new species discovered while looking for technology and surviving....That may turn away some people, but for me that is the experience I wanted. I wanted to be able to land on planets and explore while also just drifting across the cosmos. Sure to some it may as well be a pretty screensaver, but to me I knew exactly what I was going to get. The people that expected something different, didnt bother looking past the trailers. Trailers never are exactly what a game will be, you need to listen to Q and As, watch some interviews, be sure that is the game you want. And to be perfectly honest, If you are THAT bothered by how the game is, or if you are waiting for the steam release and you dont like it, GO REFUND IT!!! GO GET YOUR MONEY BACK IF YOU HATE IT! NOONE IS FORCING YOU TO KEEP IT OR PLAY IT! But for the others who have actually read through all of this and think it is an experience you would be willing to try, Go for it. The gameplay does get stale at times, but all games do at some point down the road. That's why you log off of games, take it in doses, then hop off when you start getting bored of it. The graphics, while some say are last gen, to me have a charm to them and I love them. Funky colors and all. The music is amazing but I still prefer to play my own music during the game, and almost all issues they talk about with the game can be remedied as the creator said himself, by continuing with the game and upgrading what you have. I hope this has helped at least one person out. I give No Man's Sky an 8/10. Expand

If, from all the videos and media that has been released about this game over the past two years you had landed on a solid picture of what this game was, you're going to be disappointed because it won't be what you had pictured. I myself flip-flopped many times over that time period as to whether I was interested or not in what this game had to offer. I didn't even know until I booted it up what this game was really offering me.

You begin on a planet with a broken ship you have to find resources to ultimately get your ship up and running. This could take you a couple of minutes, it could also take you a couple of hours if you get lost in the process of finding plants and animals. It will all depend on you.

You collect resources, you improve things, you meet nondescript aliens, you explore. You name things. You sell things. Rinse and repeat. And that's where people are getting stuck, they expected more story, they expected bigger and better things. But a lot of fun can be had from navigating to planets, exploring them to find stones that teach you new alien words, new blueprints for weapons, multi-tool attachments etc. Sometimes you'll fly towards the stars and pirates decided they want what is up for grabs. Is this Elite Dangerous, no. But it's not trying to be a space combat sim. It's trying to be a game about exploring, about trying to find your way in the way you choose to the center of the galaxy. You can avoid everything, or explore everything.

I truly look forward to what Hello Games do to this game in the days, weeks and months to come. Maybe a more involved trade system, maybe a more refined map so you can call a place home. Although with the goal being to get to the center of the universe, I'm not sure they want you to call anywhere home.

No Man's Sky is at its core a sort of space trucker simulator that entails flying around the mathematically generated space boonies visiting planets and examining flora and fauna that more often than not are as different as different sized holes in a fine slice of Swiss. Now, I'm not trying to knock the game; I myself happen to enjoy a good slice of Swiss every once and awhile, but I'm not going to leave scathing reviews for mozzarella on a cheese rating website because of it. Discounting it's wonky controls, No Man's Sky actually accomplishes everything it set out to. It's impossibly large, procedurally generated, and full of surprisingly engaging lore hidden away in a style reminiscent of the souls series. Almost all of the shortcomings of NMS come not from the game itself, but from the ridiculous fanbase that has grown up around it. Imagine being a connoisseur of swiss cheese, waiting around for the annual swisscon, only to find thousands of mozarella lovers holed up outside. The big day finally comes, and the event hall is burned down by angry mozarella lovers who finally realize that despite also being a type of cheese, swiss has an identity that is entirely different from the mozarella they know and love. What I mean to say is this; No Man's Sky is not a game for everyone, and it's mostly negative criticism is born of people coming from games like assassins creed, the Arkham series, or GTA, who's experience with open worlds is incomplete without something exploding every 5 seconds. No Man's Sky is really meant for the more niche crowd, who can wait hours for their explosions, and are entirely gratified seeing none at all. If that honestly sounds like you, give the game a try and you'll love it. If not, read this review as a 1 and leave, unless of course you enjoy being wholly let down. Some people get off on it. I want to start off by saying the polarized reviews of this game aren't really helpful to anyone. The 10's will probably be anyone who thought the game would be perfect and, even in the face of information that conflicts with that, want to keep that allusion alive. I also feel like a majority of that 0-3's are people who really hated this game before it even came out and haven't even played it but reviewed it poorly anyway. Me and my girlfriend have now played about 12-15 hours of this game now and I think I can review it pretty solidly. We haven't really rushed anything and we've been to about 7 different galaxy's now. You can go faster. I'm sure other people have. We are taking our time. I mean it is an exploration game. To keep it brief, this game was everything I expected. I didn't expect it to be perfect. Or the combat to be life-changing. But I did want the experience to be fun. And you now what. It has been fun. And even though we've played 12-15 hours I would imagine there is about a good 20 more hours until it all starts feeling pretty repetitive. And it will start feeling repetitive. There is a lot in the game. But a lot of it is the same. But right now it's really cool to go to the different stations, learn the language, document things. It's all really cool. Don't expect a multiplayer game. This is not that. Don't expect CoD in space, because it isn't that either. To quote Sean Murray, this is a "really chill game." You play this to wander around and collect and explore things. Some people are just not going to like that. I'd like to note that I kind of view this game like minecraft a little bit. In the beginning they didn't have half of the stuff that they do now. They created a foundation and created a base following and went from there. And from what I've seen No Man's Sky is well on its way to doing all those things. Murray and his team have promised free updates. They said we can build bases and own space freighters in future updates. I give it an 8 out of 10 right now because the fun is limited in scope and length. My idealized vision is that they will update it to raise that 8 to a 10 with future updates. I'm impressed by what this small team has done. And I hope they will continue to support this game. That's why I bought it day one. To hopefully support this incredible team enough so they will continue to make this game great, even into the future. Just a final note on some details that might be important. Inventory management is a real thing and if you don't like to micromanage this might not be for you. If you don't like to explore, or don't like mining resources to keep going, this might not be for you. If you are a chill sort of person who wants a chill experience, this game is probably for you. After only 6-8 hours with this game, I am happy to say I have found one for me. This game has a ton of depth, a very interesting universe to explore and decent combat mechanics. I was surprised that the masses were as interested in this game as they were when it was announced, it seemed like a pretty niche game. I can't help but feel like a lot of the negative reviews are people who the game quite simply wasn't made for.

If you are an action game junkie or someone that only ever plays AAA games, be wary, this is an independent game that got its scope blown up because of hype. It may not be your cup of tea. However, if exploring space and experiencing the scope of the universe while surviving in hostile environments and just enjoying the immersion of it all, sounds like your cup of tea, you should definitely pick it up.

Leaving the frenzied debate aside and taking the game for what it is. All I see is a very nice looking and absorbing adventure game. Of course there are issues with it, but looking at the game as objectively as possible I cannot mark it down because of these early glitches. It's still very much fun to play.

At time of writing Devs are already on patch 1.07 and I can only see the game improving as it gets more refined and polished. They have already significantly stabilized and balanced the game where required. Then there are the new features which I hope will be added in time. A lot to look forward to.

I bought my PS4 in anticipation of this game, while waiting for its release I have enjoyed a couple of other titles, this has not disappointed me one bit. I had realistic expectations and grew up playing some rather innovative, if sometimes crashy and glitchy old 8 & 16-bit games. This game dares to be different where other games look good but feel rather generic. Well done I say.

To give a little background, I have been pretty hyped about this game for the better part of 2 years now but at the same time have toned down my expectations the more previews and early gameplays i have seen. I love sandbox/openworld games but do not like Minecraft.

    Pros:
The exhiliration of flying in and out of planets and systems. Even though many of planets are "somewhat" same looking, there are still many moments when I walk onto the edge of what I think is just a small hill and suddenly see an vast expanse of gigantic cliffs and crevasse with weird and cool looking alien faunas.

Great reward and bait system. Explore -> mine -> learn new tech-> sell-> buy upgrade -> continue over again. Its easy to keep on doing this when you are constantly thinking what lies just beyond the system.

    Cons:
Space combat is horrendous. Extremely difficult to control the ship while aiming with the L stick. Feels like your sitting in a floating twirling cage trying to hit a moving fly on a wall from 100 meters out.

Certain processes gets really repetitive really fast. Same type of structures and contents on each planet. So basically you go to the same looking structure and do the same thing on planet after planet.

Upgrades and thiings to upgrade on seems limited so far. You can upgrade your suit, ship, and gun. Upgrading ship and guns seems somewhat unnecessary even, since you can just buy new ones with already upgraded techs. Also many upgrades will say they give you faster cooldown or harder damage, but its hard to see that in play. Upgrading would be more fun if you can see it having a noticeable affect.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. No Man Sky appears to be suffering from the over hype of the game and thus generating reviews that are absolutely uneducated. You can't form an opinion about the game after only playing two hours. After playing for 7-10 hours I have discovered that the game has a lot of depth when it comes to the game especially with the alien races. You don't instantly understand what they are saying to you so you rely on visiting obelisk and talking to them in order to gain knowledge and learn the language. The depth is when you explore more into these alien races. The large obelisk monuments are obscure and mysterious but reveal information that adds to the experience. For example I encountered an alien race of Gek in a system, they look reptilian or amphibious like, have an awful smell, and are very fond of trading and consider your character as a customer. While venturing around the world I came across a bit of knowledge from an obelisk about the Gek. I won't reveal what was said but it was an amazing bit of information that I learned about the species and it made me look at the alien species a different way and interact with them differently. Another species I came across was the Korvok which is a alien species that may or may not be robotic. The Korvoks are highly intelligent and focus on studying plant and animal species. They enjoy acquiring information and think of you as a test subject. There is an even larger narrative in play in this game and I think we haven't given the game enough time to discover everything it holds. The Atlas Station is also extremely mysterious and I think there are things that will be discovered in the future. Just because the game doesn't live up to what everyone imagined it to be, doesn't automatically make it a below average game and the great thing is there is infinite room for growth! Is it perfect? Absolutely not, but its not and abysmal joke of a game that everyone is trying to make of it. I'd suggest waiting to see what the developers plan for the future of the game. If they are adding content constantly, than this game is worth everyone's time. Honestly I thought I was going to absolutely hate the game but I learned that it was captivating if I actually looked at what was going on in the game. Expand

If Hello Games continues to support and expand the features the way they've committed, I could easily see NMS growing into a 10. Great game. Compelling and addictive.

Space travel and exploration are exciting and unique. Feels insanely satisfying traveling through space and mining to make enough money to buy bigger and better upgrades.

Needs some work with textures and a few bugs here and there. Promised future updates to add in some more elements to game will help too.

All in all, playing this game for what it is, it is a great game. It delivers exactly what I wanted out of it. Flying around, checking out things in space, in a relaxed environment. When I want to get dirty and actually feel like I am flying, I have Elite for that, but when I want to chill and take in all the visually amazing things in space and have fun with out having to get out the HOTAS, NMS is it! It's perfect for that hole that needs filled.

It's not with out its own problems and quirks and there's definitely some things that need addressed, like the galaxy map, and things added like some sort of base building, but I got my $60 out of it in just the first planet.

No Man's Sky got SUPER hyped up and for good reason, but people took bits and pieces of what Sean Murray said and went crazy. So, here's what you can expect from No Man's Sky.

It's huge, so don't expect to get to the center of the universe in one day. In fact, don't expect to explore a planet in one day.

It holds your hand very little. You start crash landed on a planet you know nothing about and your treated as such. Your options are to figure it out on your own or to take to the internet. I suggest you figure it out on your own unless your really stumped.

It gets repetitive. You're trying to get to the center of the universe by hoping star systems. So, you gather resources as you explore planets, power your hyperdrive and move on. Rinse and repeat.

There's a TON of beauty in the midst of the repetition. Every planet, animal, alien, plant, ship etc is unique. Learn to appreciate it! T

he lore is really good so and I'm sure it's different for each race that you come in contact with. So far I've come in contact with a warrior race and a scientific race. Both are very different in how they approach and interact with my character.

Push though the mundane. There is repetition, but once you're a few star systems in you begin to see planets and alien races change. It gets more difficult and interesting. Rare materials become more commonplace. Keep going!

The game is half a GB! This alone makes the game worth $60. It is a work of mathematic art!

So, I'm sorry if this game isn't the conglomeration of every good part of every game you've ever played. You're not going to find that in No Man's Sky. What you will find is a universe to explore that is full of beauty, drama, mystery and a healthy dose of repetition. It will change over time. More will be added, bugs will be fixed. Remember Diablo 3 when it first came out? Look at it now. It's amazing! Given some time No Man's Sky will be amazing too. Right now it's just good, which is why I gave it an 8 out of 10.

I do feel like I spend more time in these menus then exploring the planets I visited. For anyone who is looking for realistic, sharp graphics No Man Sky does not have them. However, the art style they use in the game makes it forgiving. I have put in over 15 hours into this game and I already found it becoming very repetitive within the first 3-6 hours. The things the I think it does well is the feeling of discovering something that may not be discovered by other players will keep on pulling you back. As well a plant life and animals that you find along your way. The first few hours are very slow, but it's worth it because all the small little items you find will help you build better parts for your ship. Most of the planets I landed on have been very dry and bleak, but the audio and the sense of discovery help build an atmosphere making worth your while to check the planets. Is this worth your time? If you want a hybrid of Destiny and Minecraft and 18 quintillion planets to explore I would recommend this game to you. Keep in mind that you have slightly awkward controls, a very slow start, up to 4 or 5 hours, and a clunky and slow UI. Overall I would give this a 7.9/10. Expand

I understand all of the problems people are having with it, especially how people are calling it repetitive/boring. I feel like that will be the case for me, but only in how ever many months it takes for me to do everything I can until the game become 100% repetitive for me. I've done so much but barely scratched the surface, I'm not even close to finding the Center of the Galaxy, or the end of the Atlas path (if there is one). I'm constantly upgrading my armor, ship, & weapons. Every time I pick up this game I have something to look forward to, though I know that wont last forever, so I'm just savoring it.

There's a lot of complaining about how all of the planets seem similar, well...no **** there's 15 quintillion planets. Yes, I know you can't see other people. Yes, I know Sean Murray said you could see other players 2 years ago, and no I don't care. When Sean recently tweeted "This isn't a multiplayer game so don't go looking for that experience", I believed him. I was never looking for that experience in the first place. On another note, everyone is talking about game crashes for some reason. So I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones who never experienced any crashes.

I'm not head-over-heels in love with game (anymore), I don't have some **** inspired hatred for it, I just think it's a fun game to play. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I'm entitled to mine, and my opinion is that Hello Games did a very good job creating their own universe and I can't wait to play more of it tomorrow.

P.S. there is a lot of review brigading, both good and bad reviews. So look out for that.

And there is a good story- you just have to eek it out. I learned over 100 words (as you don't understand alien languages of course) before even bothering leaving my first system- which meant hours and hours of slowly learning a species history through visiting various locations etc. And that changed the shape of the game for me, and my goals. it is slow though, and the resource grind is repetitive, but that should be known to everyone already, it's a little like Minecraft. Without spoiling anything No Man's Sky's ending leaves a bitter taste in the players mouth making all of their hard work feel meaningless. That being said the journey to get to that ending is where the true game exists. Encountering new alien species, finding resources throughout one of the quintillions of randomly generated planets, and even spaceship combat. Where No Man's Sky succeeds is also where it unfortunately falters. Early exploration feels exciting and new, but upon further inspection becomes repetitious at best. Planets begin to feel like nothing more than re-skinned color pallets of ones that came before, and new animals you discover rarely differ much from ones you've seen already. What this game is, is an archaeology survival space fantasy. If you go in with the mind of discovering and chronicling what you have seen. If you take your time to learn the lore of the alien races before pushing to the next star system, the game is much more enjoyable. Due to randomization your experience is going to vary. I have seen reviews of people finding nothing but desolate rocks, and other who have found nothing but abundant resources. This greatly changes the experience for an individual.

My personal experience has been a mix of everything, lush jungle planets devoid of species, rocks crawling with life and little resources. My first planet had sentinels on high alert, so I had to constantly run and hide for every resource I found, In fact, outside of an encounter with space pirates and attempting to protect a cargo fleet, that has been my only death. I have put in at least 25 hours since picking up the game on Tuesday, and am only on my fifth star system. Because, this is a game about exploring. It feels almost like a metaphor for life. We have a goal, we have an end, but what we make of it, what we experience along the way and how we enjoy it, matters more.

Bottom line, this is a game that relies heavily on what the gamer puts into it. It hits perfectly on the target that Sean Murray aimed. A choose your own adventure, science fiction, exploration, with a story that you have to go looking for. It was never meant to appeal to everyone. It was created to test boundaries and genres and I feel that even in this imperfect state it has done that.

And (!) the looming promise of full multiplayer continues to resurface every few weeks, which says at least something about the developer's wish to find restitution for their shortcomings on release. Is perfect for me. I have been waiting since they released the first trailer, and I haven't been disappointed with the story, the planets, the sometimes infuriating inventory micro-management. Where the game is currently failing is in Three Main Areas: [1] STABILITY - the game has hard crashed on the PS4 multiple times. In one play session it happened 4 times. I think I blew it up mining a massive resource pile, and exceeded the systems ability to manage the environmental change. Stopped short of strip mining the final time. [2] DATA LOSS - On the 4th day there was a late night crash. So I went to bed, started up the next day and had lost all progress. Normally this would be devastating. I had moved too fast, poorly handled the opening game play and was considering restarting that day, so I took it in stride. Ready to restart. That said, I DO NOT want to do it again. So I need to find a way to make sure I have a backup of my save. [3] TUTORIAL - The tutorial agenda isn't well balanced and handles disruption poorly. Second time around I knew I needed to build Warp Cores, and planned for it, building some items early. After getting the an early recipe for a component. I was forced to rebuild the pieces I already had to get them checked off and progress. Right now I am sitting on one tutorial that requires repair of the Visual Scanner, which I did long ago (right after I got the material, even before repairing my ship).
CONCLUSION: I love open world games so much and Hello Games delivered a game that fits exactly what I was looking to play. I am willing to overlook the initial startup pains of a new game. (I think it's more stable than several of the Bethesda games I enjoyed.) Solve the Stability and Data Loss issues and this is a 10.

Ive been playing a lot of "Out There: Omega edition" on my ipad for the past few weeks leading up to this game. Imagine my surprise to find out this is the exact same game story albeit with better attributes. Anyone who has played "out there" will recognize the story set up and paths and what not, the inventory layout especially and even ship designs to some degree have made appearances here. Now this isn't necessarily a negative point as out there is a pretty decent game for a text based adventure. Its more like "this is the game that "out there" should have or could have or would have been under different circumstance". It also has a lot of aspects of games like "Galaxy on Fire" for space shipping and trading. The game does get repetitive but don't all games at some point? It certainly has its flaws and drawbacks but Im 15-20 hours in and still excited to get back into it each night after work. Back to fighting off skitter bugs from attacking me while i steal the ore out from under the sentinal's noses. Papa needs a new hyper core.

Space sandbox game, if you like to explore, do some trading and manage resources then you will like this game. Those looking for deep combat, or something faster pace just won't. Its a niche game that was sold to the masses.

Beautiful game. Love the various planets and the little creatures Ii find. I can get into the game and become lost for hours in a good way. It is a no pressure game and there are times that fits right into my life. try this game out before you believe all the negative reviews.

Also the price is a little steep, £40 ($60) is maybe a bit too steep, I would recommend this game to most people when it drops to about £20-£30 ($30-$40), however if you know you'll love this kind of game then I would recommend it at full price but it's likely you'll already have it! Apart from the odd game glitches, which are being patched, No Man's Sky plays seamlessly. It is graphically one of a kind offering expansive, stunning vistas to explore and mine to your heart's content. The flying mechanics are tight but still give your ship a sense of weight. And though the space pirates and sentinels add a sense of danger there are no overwhelming threats that will intrude too heavily on your mission of exploration.

There are problems though; the inventory system could be more expansive, the trading more complicated, and the lore could be deeper. It is a single player game and it needs more of a story to back up the endless exploration lest it become aimless and futile. Also while there is a vast amount of variation in planets and fauna there doesn't appear to be any planet biome diversity. So there is little need to explore more than a few square miles of a given planet to experience it's total.

I'm giving this game a solid 8, but watch or play a friend's game before committing as it certainly isn't the mainstream game for everyone that it was hyped as. I am hoping No Man's Sky does well enough that the developers will continue to work on, expand and deepen the game, because although it isn't perfect yet, it has the potential to be astonishingly great.

No Man's Sky is a really massive universe. Every planets are different. We can call everything what we discover. This game give me a lot of the pleasure during exploitation, but unfortunately I was quickly bored and the game isn't enough finished. Despite minuses I can recommend No Man's Sky all gamers who love exploitations world around them.

No Man's Sky, in my opinion, is an amazing experience. The thing about No Man's Sky is at the end of the day it is a niche game, & not everybody is going to like it. Just like games like Elite Dangerous & Star Citizen, you have people who either love it or hate it. I am a huge space sim fan. Space sims are my absolute favorite genre of game.

That's who this game is for. The small group of players who love sci-fi space games. This game was unbelievably hyped up since it was announced. With all of that marketing & hype, it
made its way into the view of mainstream gamers. So many gamers that don't normally play games like this, space/exploration games without much of a narrative, would not normally give a game like this a chance, or even hear much about it since it's such a small niche. This game was unfortunately destined to be a target of hate from mainstream gamers who don't normally play these types of games & people who let the hype get to them & set wild expectations on this video game. When NMS came out,
these people were disappointed. They’re not use to games without an objective, quest system, a narrative telling them where to go & what to do. That's the thing about
gamers like myself that love the slow pace & relaxing gameplay of games such as Elite & NMS that have no narrative or "purpose". Often before release the question
"What do you do in NMS?" was asked over & over by traditional gamers that just couldn't grasp or understand the gameplay mechanic behind NMS. Some gamers just can't fathom
why a game wouldn't have a narrative or end goal. But to me, these types of games are the best.

NMS is certainly not perfect. But it is an amazing experience, & the core gameplay & mechanics are really fun but not without flaw. Exploration is fun. I love flying to so many different planets, exploring the
wild & often beautiful results of the procedural generation. One thing that can be said & praised about NMS is the variety in planets, flora & fauna. The procedural generation of these elements
is awesome. I have put in well over 70 hours in NMS, & I have to say I am extremely surprised in the fact that I am still seeing new planet types that I have yet to see, & different
landscapes within these planets. Every time I go to a new planet I see a new animal I haven't seen yet. Sure, I see a decent amount of the same animals, like your common small "deer-like" &
reptilian animals. But for every animal I have seen there’s just as much as ones I haven't seen. I'm not talking about animals with the same base model but with different procedural parts, for example
a common deer base model archetype animal with different colors or stripes on one & on the next planet the same base model deer but with spikes on its back this time. This is common & does happen,
but I'm always running into completely new types of animals with base models I haven't seen yet. And there truly are some funky animals out there. Some planets are barren & ugly. Sometimes it can take a while until you find a system that has lush, tropical like biomes with perfect weather. But when you do, they are absolutely gorgeous & is part of the fun in this game. Even the barren planets can be beautiful & have new landscapes that are unique that I have previously never discovered.

The flying mechanic is admittedly mediocre. It's very arcadey & basic, & lacks depth. It's still fun, & I enjoy it & expected it to be arcadey. However, there are some mechanics of flying
that are the result of poor design choices. For example, the "auto-pilot" feature when you're on a planet near the surface. You cannot go low on a planet surface. There is an invisible barrier about
30-50 meters above ground that your ship cannot get under. It prevents you from getting too close to the ground & crashing. I understand it could be due to the procedural engines pop-in,
but in my opinion that was a terrible choice. There could have been ways to prevent pop-in from that low. There could be at least a mechanic where you cannot get low until the LOD of the terrain
is fully rendered. Once it's rendered low flight would be possible. I'm not sure, I'm not a game developer, but surely that's a fair example of how it could have been implemented to allow
low flight. I think that was a huge mistake. I want to be able to fly low through canyons, under arches, between buildings, hover low above ground to see where I can l&, etc. That was a huge disappointment.
Another mechanic of flying that is disappointing is the fact you cannot hover, reverse thrust or come to a complete stop on planet surfaces. Most likely due to the "auto-pilot/no low flight" mechanic.

The core gameplay is pretty good. Yes, it can get repetitive. Yes, resource gathering & inventory management can become a nuisance. But at the end of the day, this is an exploration & survival
game, where mechanics like this are a big part of.

While I’m sure developer Hello Games is still tweaking things and perhaps even creating more content for No Man’s Sky, the current state of affairs is a strong one. This galactic opus still offers an infinite amount of content for those who want to lose themselves among the stars, but now also contains a concrete throughline that will satisfy a wider array of players. It can be irritating at times, but it’s also full of stunning moments and the satisfaction of building a virtual life among the stars. Four years after launch, it’s finally a journey worth taking.

The world of No Man's Sky is insanely vast and beautiful, but there’s nothing to do in it! There’s no goal, no destination, no ending, nothing!

While No Man's Sky is engrossing for the first few hours, repetition starts to set in and the proceedings grow dull. The developers stated that they plan to add significant features such as base building which could dramatically change the game for the better. There's a promising foundation present, so it's possible to envision a more substantial game down the line. As it currently stands, though, our excitement to cross the universe faded sooner than we expected.
