I honestly love this game. It offers many approaches to play it, endless gameplay and really innovative components. These developers releases patches with new features for free, while nowdays most of the companies does it with paid dlcs. The greatest game ever made.

And I’ve played a lot of games.

I can see from other reviews that this is a ‘Marmite’ game, but for me it’s the game on PS4 I keep coming back to.

And that’s before I try the free beyond/VR etc update....

Now, fast forward nearly 6 years and this game is absolutely all THRILLER and ZERO FILLER. Sean Murray and the amazing team at Hello Games have accomplished what feels like, the impossible. Welcome to the Interstellar Sandbox! With 18 *FREE* major content updates, the latest being incredible all by its wee self, this game delivers. And delivers and delivers. In fact, it has changed and improved so much since it's release, that any reviews written before 2019 are totally and completely misrepresenting what this game is today. When I first bought it, I played for roughly 5 hours and after one massively disappointing experience, I put the game away, for what I thought would be forever. However, mid 2021 I started reading that NMS had changed drastically. Without reading further in to it, I decided to give it another look.
That look turned into approximately 500 hours of playtime and platinum trophies on both PS4 and PS5. I couldn't believe how much content had been packed in this game. So much so, that there were times I'd just zone out while playing, trying to comprehend how this game was capable of doing what it was doing, and how it was possible. (Didn't figure much out, but that's okay because I don't work there) Audio - 40/42
Video - 42/42 (Next generation is gorgeous) Controls:
    Ship - 42/42
    Rover - 20/42
    On foot - 38/42 Terraforming - 36/42
    Exploration - 42/42
    Travel and Accommodations- 42/42
Base Building - A million. (Thanks to an orbital construction camera for easier piece placement and a large selection of parts to build with) Questing - Repetitive in a lot of aspects, but it's almost a secondary function of the game after a point. For what this game is and then became and for how much I got out of this game, I'm rating it at %100. Take that with a grain of salt if you like, but if you like space exploration and sandboxing, you're gonna freaking love this game. Cheers!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. No Man’s Sky has been one of my favourite games to play on the ps4 since it’s release on August 9th, 2016. However like many others I was disappointed with how the game was first released as the gameplay wasn’t quite as advertised, but in my opinion it didn’t make it a bad game as No Man’s Sky still had plenty of new and innovative aspects of gameplay mechanics which made it the unique game it is. As-well the developers of the game showed they had their fans in mind when updating the game, as many of the updates massively overhauled the game visually, aswell as with gameplay mechanics by adding in multiplayer, and adding more story content(in which the storyline for the game is easy to follow and keeps the player immersed in the world that is No Man’s Sky). If you weren’t like me and gave the game a chance or were hesitant of buying the game from the reviews then I think you should give the game a chance in 2020 as since it’s release in 2016 it is almost like a brand new game. Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but somehow you had to figure everything out yourself, which is cool in itself, but if you die several times at the beginning of the game because you're poisoned, burned or freeze to death, it's not that great, so I can understand why many stop right at the beginning of the game but if you master most of the beginning the rest of the game is all the better, really stunning planets and a feeling that is indescribable. If you only have minimal interest in NMS and like films like Star Wars or Interstellar, you should really try it out and preferably with a few friends. Expand

People will ride on other indie titles and treat them like royalty when they have less than a tenth of the content this game has, yet they still demand more content? For me, I'm having fun with it. I'm taking my time, making some dangerous decisions, making some prosperous ones. Nothing beats landing on a moon and looking over the horizon to a gigantic planet, knowing full well you're only a minute away and will get something out of exploring it. I think, like certain DC movies, people like to just jump on the hate bandwagon without creating their own experience and trying things for themselves, because of this, I feel sorry, almost pity this generation of gamers. The game is about exploration, but most of you people can't make an opinion for yourselves, let alone an experience, so this game was doomed to fail from the start. Had it come out 10-15 years ago, we would still be talking about it today. Expand

Of course it is not a perfect game that will last you forever. It is still "small" indie game from small indie studio. So of course there is not enough totally unique content for 14 quatilion planets. And sooner or later the gameplay starts to repeat itself.

But... there is actually surprising amount of content and goals for you to finish. Of course some basic elements (like trading posts, caves,...) on the planets are present in such amount, that they repeat from very start. But there is enought of unique stuff that is not copy+pasted everywhere, but it is really rare to encounter. So even after hours and hours of gameplay you encounter new unique content. And the feel of exploring the unknown still drives you forward. This helps to keep the game fresh for along time.

The most important thing is, that game is not a total meaningless walking simulator. It actually gives you enough objectives (to build something or points you in direction of some unique structure or NPC) to keep you going and to encounter cool stuff. So far I did not encountered situation that I would be exploring for a sake of exploration. Or grinding elements just so I can grind more elements. There was always bigger goal behind it (from crafting upgrads to pointing me to black hole) that moved me somewhere and felt rewarding.

I also feel that this game is different from other space sims. On one hand it is much biggers. But on the other hand it is simplified. But in a good way. First of all the gameplay is fast (you dont spent 95% of the time in empty space. Traveling between planets is so fast you dont get bored like in the EVE Online). And you know what ou ar supposed to do from start. You dont feel lost and overwhelemed. So this may be good entry game to the genre even for newcomers.

Games like No Man's Sky don't come along all that often these days. At its core, it is a Space Trading game like Elite, but there are also the post 2000's gameplay from Minecraft. And simplified games systems which mean you can do pretty much everything right away. Because of that it actually stops being 'just' a trading game, and instead encourages you to explore new worlds and seek out new life wherever you find it. The reward the game gives is not instant gratification. Like minecraft without the building, No Man Sky delivers exactly what we wanted from a exploration game.

Comparisons with Elite are most stark, the exploration part of No Man's Sky is dialed up to 11. Within in a single play session, you can be walking along the surface of a densely lush planet. Mine for Gold, jump into a pool of water, swim around and discover new life. Then Jump into your ship, cruise around the surface of the planet, and locate ancient ruins, or settlements, or trade stations, or the countless other things that are all over the planet. Then with a simple pulling back of your joystick and boost out you fly in orbit around that planet, mine asteroids for fuel and then FTL to the station in the system to trade all your found goodies. Meet intelligent lifeforms and learn there language. And all that, before you ever hyperspace to another star system. Just like Elite, No Man's Sky boasts a near limitless bounty to explore. But there is also a thread of a overriding quest involving the 'Atlas', guiding you to who knows what and where.

On top of all of that, you can name every system, every planet, every species of flora and fauna you come across. Every settlement you stumble upon. (just make sure you 'save' your game at an outpost or you will be refilling in those names!!

For me, No Man Sky is easily the most original, most addictive and most humbling of titles. How a 10 person team of coders have accomplished this, is beyond me. The level of sophistication and polish puts this way beyond what we have all come to accept in Indie titles.

Are there things that I want to see improved? yes, performance whilst on my rig is pretty much flawless. On the more busy planets frame-rates go sub 30fps. And there is the very occasional 'pause' when there is a lot happening. But these are forgivable gripes.

So because of that, I will be awarding No Man's Sky a 9/10. But also should say this is a 'MUST BUY' for every budding explorer out there.

I then immediately realized my mistake. I was falling too far. I landed my ship on a FLOATING rock formation and it was far too high up to use my jetpack to get back to it. I was now on a hostile planet with Sentinels attacking me everywhere I went and the air was toxic so I was slowly dying every second. I had to figure out a way to get my ship back.

This meant that I would have to trek across the planet, scouring it for an outpost somewhere where I could summon my ship. Only problem is that on a planet-sized planet devoid of life you never know how long that could take.

I started off towards the very first question mark spot I had in my viewer as my suit's hazard protection rapidly decreased and if that runs out then your health quickly goes down. No problem, I just need to charge it up, except that I don't have any zinc to do so and this planet seems to have a zinc deficiency.

For the next 2 hours I fought sentinels, found caves to stay in and replenish my suit, found many upgrades and new blueprints to make the rest of my journey smoother, and swam in extremely radiated oceans until I found an actual outpost. It was probably my 20th question mark I had come across and it was an amazing feeling to finally summon my ship and be able to say I survived the entire ordeal.

The coolest thing about this is that the game created this experience for me based on my own accident and it was great. It is littered with this kind of stuff. I never know what I might find next and I can't wait to see where updates take it in the next year.

Can't understand why it has got such a low score, I like the bright and colourful design which reminds me of the covers of all those sci fi books I use to read in my youth. None of this is cool, and I fully understand the backlash this game has got. However, playing the game we ended up with, I can't help but love it. Sure, it could've been so much better (it could've been the game he promised), but taken as is, I really enjoy playing it. I know it's a grinder. You fly from one planet to another and all you do is mine, upload pictures (Beyond Good and Evil, anyone?), try to learn words so you can vaguely understand what the identikit aliens say to you before you choose the wrong option, and feed or run away from very odd creatures. It plays like an indie game for your phone, but on a gargantuan scale. But there's something about it. I love flying my little ship, exploring planets. The simplicity of the game soothes me, it's strangely addictive. Murray's lies aside, most of the negative comments state that the game is repetitive, but that's never done the Dark Souls series, Call of Duty series or any FPS any harm has it? Or is repetition only OK if it involves killing things? Personally I have had quite enough of getting sniped as soon as I spawn in multiplayer shooters, and the levels in most shooters look much the same, yet people are moaning about planets looking the same. Some do, but so far I have been pleasantly surprised at the variety.

I honestly think there is a clear divide in age groups here. Old farts like myself who grew up playing Elite on the ZX Spectrum have always dream't of playing a game life this. It genuinely feels like a truly unique experience playing it, and has a slow, chilled pace to it. It encourages you to sit back and enjoy the journey, not race to the end like you would in most other games, and that is quite addictive. Not many games make me think about them and plan what I will do next. This one does. If you like your games frenetic, violent, and in your face, then this is not for you. But if you fancy a game offering something truly different, something you can actually relax whilst playing, try it. The greatest game of this current generation is The Witcher 3, but once the story is done and every place explored, every monster killed, it's done. This game has no story to speak of- just enough to intrigue, but if you don't chase the main Atlas quest, you have a game you can always dip into, and you will NEVER see all it has to offer. I love it!

I will say that it is very repetitive and everything looks the same but I don't mind the simpleness of it. I can sit down and play this game for a few hours at a time and enjoy myself regardless of seeing and doing the same stuff over and over. Too many people seem to forget that No Man's Sky is not made by a huge developer with hundreds of people working on it. Hello Games consists of only 15 people and what they managed to produce was a very entertaining game... for the one playing that is, not so much to watch, unless you're just checking it out. I give the game the benefit of the doubt because, like I said, it's made by 15 people.

Have an open mind when playing No Man's Sky and don't be like most people thinking it's going to be another action-packed, first person shooter. You explore, trade, and survive. That's it.

And remember, I've said this twice now, it's made by 15 people so in my books, they made a pretty damn good game.

Now with the NEXT update it has, and the game is incredible, it took me entirely by surprise. If you still don't like it, it was never meant for you to begin with. It has an extremely large scope and a lot of variety. Every space game component you can think of is there and then some, trading, combat, farming, base building, fleet management, multiship freighters, customization, missions, alien diplomacy, endless worlds. Even a decent story. Just keep in mind that as a whole, the game is astonishing but it doesn't delve deeply in all of it's individual components, so don't buy it if say, only the combat is what interests you.

I'm addicted and just scratching the surface. I couldn't in good conscience have asked for more. It's not for everybody, but if you do love this kind of game, it might be the one you've always waited for.

After reading some negatieve reviews I doubted to buy the game. But I am happy I did. This is what exploring the universe is like. Going where nobody has gone before and discover new worlds and lifeforms. Altough it isnt a game for anyone. Probably only for science fiction freaks.
The good news: It's visuals and music are better than I expected and add to the mysterious gameplay. I am especially impressed by the variation in landscapes. In the real universe also everything is more or less a astronomical random gamble. This game simulates that. The environments and fauna give you plenty of awe moments.
The bad news: At some point the game gets repetitive. It is basically 1) finding resources 2) create a warp drive 3) fly to next solar system 4) explore planets. And that loop repeats itself. On the other hand every game gets repetitive at some point. Isnt FIFA or DOOM repetitive after 15 hours? It is also basically doing the sam all over again.
Things to improve: I would like to see a better combat experience on planets. I also want to see more intelligent life (where are the alien cities?). And by example a war between several intelligent life forms, where you can decide to join a side or to stay neutral. Or give the possibility to take tasks in alien cities that you can complete. Afterwards you get money (units) from it. That would also decrease the repetitiveness.
My conclusion is that the game is a success. And gives a lot of awe moments the first hours. For true science fiction freaks this game is a must have. But I think that Hello Games should feel obligated to make things better with -free- updates given the heavy price tag of 60 euros. Especially in terms of planet combat and tasks to complete for alien cities.

If you're after an MMO, PvP, hardcore dogfighting in space or realistic graphics, step away; this is not for you.

Graphics are not photo-realistic, but gorgeous and consistent. The procedural engine generates an infinite variety of plants, creatures, and planets (although, of course, there are lots of similarities). On the PS4 at least the gameplay is smooth (even while streaming). My only complaint here is the visibility of "pop-in" as the terrain-generators do their work well within the draw-distance, but that's only really visible while flying over terrain at low altitude. As of the current (1.03) patch, there's a few minor issues (some misspelled words, height/weight of creatures transposed, etc) but generally not noticeable.

The interface is at times a touch clunky (can definitely tell it was originally designed for PC) but works well enough. My only gripe here is that there seems to be no way to set up hot keys to quickly reload or recharge your equipment. Instead one has to constantly jump into the inventory to do so, which can be a bit hairy in the middle of combat.

Walking around on planets is standard fare for FPS's (although no strafing movement) but for those used to racing through FPS maps the movement might be a bit slow. Personally I don't mind because that's what this game is about (for me) - exploring and enjoying, rather than racing from one POI to the next.

The ship controls are fairly basic - don't expect a full-featured sim like Elite Dangerous - but it works well enough. After some initial frustrations with dog fighting I've now got a technique down which gets results. Flying between planets and stations is quick, at most taking a minute or so (unless interdicted by pirates).

Apart from just running around on planets tagging creatures the player will come across aliens (whose languages have to be learnt), ancient monuments (which give riddles to solve in exchange for goodies), and a variety of installations which can be interacted with. The puzzles I've found so far have been much too easy - it'd be nice if they would adjust based on the players age, or adjust in difficulty to the player. But then I'm only on the first few planets.

There's an overarching quest or story involving the "Atlas", enticing the players towards the center of the galaxy. There's no particular rush to follow this course though, which is nice for players who want to spend some time exploring their starting systems / areas.

Apart from some minor niggles (which hopefully will get patched out), this game is a 10/10 for me.

While my review here is not indicative of a longer term experience (I've played about 6 hours) I think I've probably encountered the bulk of the mechanics that make up the game loop.

Most of these mechanics are relatively par for course "open world" box ticking exercises - find outposts, look for loot, expand your alien vocabulary, craft and upgrade, and that sort of thing. Whilst not particularly revolutionary all of these activities are well presented and engaging enough to keep players going for a long time. An example would be the many locked doors that require crafting/finding key types etc, which offer a tantilising motivation for pressing on. The upgrade system so far is reminiscent of borderlands, and again offers a compelling reason to keep progressing.

There's every likelihood that these mechanics may become boring and/or repetitive after a significant amount of time. Probably a good example is something like Far Cry (3,Blood Dragon and 4) or Skyrim/Fallout, where you're essentially doing the same things over and over - however, personally I still find pleasure in roaming around leveling up and just sort of taking in the atmosphere.

While a lack of clear motivation or strong narrative might put some players off, or maybe leave them feeling slightly overwhelmed or lost, there is a definite sense of place to the universe. And it's this sense of place and mystery that really does appear to be No Man's Sky's ace in the hole.

I'm often completely aghast when I think about the scale of the real universe, almost melancholy, wondering what's up there, and knowing full well that I'll never find out. No Man's Sky evokes those feeling perfectly - whilst leaving you room to make your own stories.

The game can look stunning in places, however, it's procedural nature means in other places it can often look very rough, and while there's plenty wrong with the game, for example, the first person FOV, the fact you're unable to remap buttons (which by default don't feel correct) and so on, it's a superb experience so far and one of the few games that's had me thinking about it after playing.

I find it easy to recommend the game to people, as long as they're aware of what they're getting into and are aware of what makes it special. In the same way Minecraft's lack of structure and urgency might not be for everyone, thos to whom it appeals will no doubt have an excellent time.

There's nothing new to discover in them, you're just a rat going through the maze the developers have built for you. With the possible exception of Minecraft, there's nothing quite like No Man's Sky.

The possibilities of finding something no one else has found, or ever WILL find (including the developers), is infinite. The experiences and stories that YOU create are infinite. What do YOU want to do? That's the question you have to ask yourself when you play this game, because short of some initial objectives the first few hours, you're pretty much left on your own to explore and do whatever the heck you want. Maybe you want to survey a new planet and discover its unique inhabitants? Or mine some minerals to upgrade your ship? Blast off to space seamlessly and kill some pirates? Do some trading at a space station? Learn more of an alien language? Create your own cave system? Find a new weapon? Try to reach the center of the galaxy? Roleplay as an amphibious octopus with parkinson's disease? It's up to you.

And sadly, a huge wealth of people just aren't going to know how to handle that sort of lack of direction. Their reason for hating the game will be "the gameplay is basic and repetitive" and then they'll proceed to go prestige in Call of Duty for the 10th time, or grind the same bosses over and over again in Destiny. What they really mean to say is they lack the imagination and patience to enjoy this kind of freeform sandbox. And that's okay; not everyone is going to "get" this game, but that doesn't mean they have to crap all over it on review sites and try to dissuade people from checking it out. Just go about your day, shooting 500 zombies in the head or whatever else you do.

For us imaginative explorers, this is the game we've always wanted to play, to be able to stare up at the night sky and see a far away planet, and know that you can actually go off and explore it seamlessly. It's a game for those of us who've grown tired of smacking our faces into invisible walls or mountains for 20+ years. And did I mention it's often beautiful, has a nice soundtrack, and that it's all been created by less than 20 people? No Man's Sky is an amazing accomplishment however way you look at it.

It has plenty of room to grow though, and it has stability issues at the time of this writing, and that's why I've given it a 9 rating. With future updates and a dedicated and passionate community though, the sky is the limit. Sure, I could list every negative aspect of the game and take the rating down a notch, but the fact of the matter is, this game has done more for gaming than any game has or will this year. Its procedurally generated universe will be referenced and studied for years to come. And years from now, I'll probably still be popping in it from time to time to see what kind of weird planets and creatures I can find, because no one will ever discover them all. If all that doesn't warrant a high rating, I don't know what should.

All of these arguments are pointless drivel. My opinion is that this title is one of those that should have been published as a 24h demo, and in order to continue playing you'd have to pay. But, controversy creates cash, and that's good for the small team behind NMS.

There is a lot of room for growth in this title, that is for sure, but I personally am able sink hours in the tinkering and exploration while enjoying myself immensely. I don't like knitting, but I imagine my grandma likes knitting for the same reason I like NMS.

But here's the thing, I bought this game with an expectation that it will be updated, upgraded, and made better. I don't really want more things, but I want more things to do. My grandma didn't knit socks all the time, she also knit some scarves, and whateverthehell else you can knit.

If you read until here, let me give an honest to god helpful hint: Did you spend more time building your base in Fallout 4 than actually playing the core game? If yes, buy NMS. If not, don't.

Yes, I can see how some could find it repetitive or boring, but no game has ever so perfectly captured the feeling of space exploration, and even after ~20 hours of playing since release, No Man's Sky continues to feed me surprise after surprise.

Most of the planets are barren or toxic. Most of the creatures are unremarkable or boring. But just when I find myself getting bored of gathering resources/crafting on barren hellscapes, I'll stumble across a lush garden world, or an ocean planet, or a panther-dragon, and find myself audibly yelling "Holy **** at my TV screen.

Its easy to think that exploration in NMS is boring until you realize how many secrets are hidden beneath the surface. Many planets that have, at first glance, prompted me to say "Oh look, Mars again" have shown to have something cool - extensive caves systems, incredibly cool plants/animals, rare resources, or hostile sentinels. These experiences are rare enough that you don't start to have them until you have played continuously for a long time, but amazing enough to make the overall experience incredible.

The truth is that if you are someone who loves space games and has always dreamed of exploring the cosmos, No Man's Sky is not going to let you down, whatever legitimate complaints people may have. It just captures the 1950's sci-fi feeling of lonely wandering in a strange galaxy so perfectly. You will recognize its many flaws and love it all the same.

No Man's Sky is, first and foremost, beautiful to look at. It may feel redundant at times, but each new planet is unique. Flora and fauna, the sunsets and moons, oceans and valleys and blizzards and toxic storms are each gorgeous in their own right, and delightful to experience. Upgrading is easier than people are making it out to be- if you're short on money, just mine some useless rock and trade it in for cash. There is easy access to progression even on the most inhospitable planet.

I have yet to enter a true combat sequence in space, but encountering massive frigates and space stations is equally fantastical. The sheer size and scope gives you time to reflect, appreciate, and consider your next steps. Do you really want to warp away from the planet with the trading outpost and that nice ship you could buy? Will that space station hold friends or foes? Do I have enough equipment to make it out of the system, even if I have to shoot my way out?

Really, I've found No Man's Sky to be an existential monument. It forces you to be patient, confront solitude, and contemplate what it means to be alone discovering the universe. Repetitive isn't the word I'd use- reflective is. I'm treating my playthrough like a choose your own adventure Sci-Fi novel of my youth, and each new alien landscape I slog across is a reminder of the wonders of discovery that I personally haven't felt since I was a kid. It moved me, deeply, and I have a feeling that as I inch my way toward the center it will continue to make me think about my actions and the journey I'm taking in a way I haven't considered in a long, long time.

Learning the languages is fun and it's interesting solving the puzzles when opening a scanner. I got into one ship battle and died, but headed back out and grabbed everything I lost. Easy Peezy.

I like the flying and understand the frustration of mining at the beginning. It's like Terraria, you start with a wood pickax and then eventually end up with a diamond drill. On the other hand, if you can play Minecraft for hours, doing whatever strikes you, exploring, discovering cool things, then you've found your new favorite game. No Man's Sky is, at it's core, all about exploration. Find a new planet, discover what you can, what you like, and do with it what you will. The apparent end game goal is to reach the center of the galaxy, but **** that! I'm currently trying to save up enough money to buy a freighter, so I can collect samples from all over, meanwhile I'm meeting alien races, discovering their history, learning the languages, all the while finding upgrades for my gun, suit, and ship. It's a real **** sometimes too, having to balance between the supplies that will keep you alive and in the sky, against those that can build you that sweet new upgrade, or net a tidy profit. This is a game for people who can find the fun in a world that is left open to them.

In other words, if you just wanted to run around shooting stuff, probably best to look elsewhere.

    Gamers of the Round Table

Have you ever looked up to the night sky and wondered what it would be like to travel through the vast unknown? Developer Hello Games attempts to put players in the role of a universal traveller in their hyped-up hit, No Man’s Sky. The question on everyone’s mind is whether or not No Man’s Sky delivers on the experience promised by its developers. While No Man’s Sky allows players to travel through a near limitless universe, some aspects of the game can be less than engaging.

    The Good
It is important to remember that Hello Games has delivered on everything they said they would with regards to this game. The hype train created by the gaming community raised the expectations beyond anything the developers said about No Man’s Sky. From the beginning, Hello Games has been clear that while there are online features regarding the games universal atlas, this is a single-player game. There are limitless systems to explore in this expansive universe, and making your way throughout the game will require some serious resource management. Resources are stackable in your inventory, but treasures and upgrades are not, and each will take up an inventory space; you must decide what is more important to you, and in many cases the wrong decision can mean your life. Each star system has a space station with a market trader where you can unload your inventory if you want to use the fuel to fly from station to planet for every exploration. The good thing is that asteroids contain fuel for your ships pulse thrusters, along with other valuable resources; even if can find an abundance of fuel on a planet’s surface, look among the void to help you. This means that you’re never really stranded – your ship’s speed and the distance between your location and another planet/objective are calculated realistically, meaning even though you can see a planet in the distance, it could take you four hours or longer without using your pulse thrusters to reach your destination. This can be worrisome until you start blasting asteroids and realize they contain valuable fuel and resources.
Not only can you discover new planet’s, animals, locations, and plant life, you can upload and change their name. The best part besides claiming everything you see in your name is that you get paid to upload the information. Scanning everything you can see on the planet’s surface can lead to quick cash that can help you upgrade your inventory and multi-tool. You will encounter new aliens and learn about their cultures, beliefs, and shape their attitudes towards you by discovering more about them; the more you learn about an alien race the better your standing becomes. No Man’s Sky milestones system sets goals for you regarding everything you do, whether it’s flying at warp speed, learning alien languages or just trekking on foot. From the very start of the game you are thrown into an adventure to collect resources to survive long enough to repair your ship. No game has offered the level of universal exploration that No Man’s Sky provides.

    The Bad
No Man’s Sky can become repetitive; exploring new planets, discovering alien languages, and gathering resources eventually feel mundane and more task-like than exciting. While new planets can have different eco-systems and resources, the urge to explore them as much as the first few doesn’t last. Landing on every planet you see to claim/re-name them can feel like a chore after a while. It’s important to get out and explore new systems to see what else is out there to feel like the game is progressing. Some milestones do not progress as well as others; most units accrued milestone category doesn’t count the overall cumulative amount of units you trade/earn. Instead, the milestone increases regarding your current unit amount. This can feel like an unrealistic goal to reach as purchasing inventory upgrades and new multi-tools causes the next upgrade to cost more – the more you upgrade, the more it costs, making it difficult to progress through the game and hold the amount of money that allows for the milestone to increase. Additionally, some glitches can be encountered while playing; the extreme weather milestone no longer counting solar rotations while you’re on the planet can be discouraging to players trying to collect all milestones and trophies.

    Rating
9/10 – Recognizing that this is the game that was promised, not the one hyped up beyond expectation, No Man’s Sky does everything it set out to do, even if you have to figure that out on your own. With a few issues that can largely be fixed with an update, this is a game you have to play to experience; watching live-streams, or your friends playing it only gives you a partial experience, like looking at a friend’s photographs from a vacation they took. You can see the fun had, but you didn’t experience it for yourself.

It can get repetitive in terms of mine, build, warp, repeat. But the thing is, every one of those tasks can be as fun or as tedious as you want it to be.

The game wasn't meant to be rushed through and i feel some of the negative criticism is because players just didnt give it the time to appreciate it for what it is. Sure there is room for improvement but i havent been this immersed or impressed with a game since i bought the PS4 on launch. A truly rewarding experience. Expand

Ignore all of the hate this game is getting. Too many people were following it like a religion and were just asking to get bummed out when it was finally released. Going into it without much knowledge is making for a wonderful experience.

Its not for everyone. I can't stop thinking about going back to it. 4 hrs after release and I had to force myself to go to bed. It is like Elite in the sense you have to use your own imagination a bit while exploring and kind of narrate your own story. Has some issues but the sense of awe and enjoyment of discovery are still there for me. This is a love it or hate it game for sure.

Honestly it's all everyone should have expected from the gameplay, that it's a survival exploration game not a multiplayer survival game.

PROS: Addictive Amazing Lore The Exploration is the best A lot of variety in animals A lot of variety in NPC's Underwater sea creatures are rare and therefore give a sense of achievement when you discover them and are really amazing looking

Good for a solid 3-5 hours a day else gets annoying
    You need a huge imagination
No kids who f***** your mom

    CONS:
    Mining is boring
    Ugly UI
30 FPS on PS4 would recommend for PC
    Crashes a lot on PS4

Found a lizard dog with a leaf for a head
    11/10 would vomit again

After playing this game for about 5 hours so far here are my thoughts on it. First of all you can ignore all the low reviews as **** is trying to make this the lowest rated game in history. While I’m sure developer Hello Games is still tweaking things and perhaps even creating more content for No Man’s Sky, the current state of affairs is a strong one. This galactic opus still offers an infinite amount of content for those who want to lose themselves among the stars, but now also contains a concrete throughline that will satisfy a wider array of players. It can be irritating at times, but it’s also full of stunning moments and the satisfaction of building a virtual life among the stars. Four years after launch, it’s finally a journey worth taking.

The world of No Man's Sky is insanely vast and beautiful, but there’s nothing to do in it! There’s no goal, no destination, no ending, nothing!

While No Man's Sky is engrossing for the first few hours, repetition starts to set in and the proceedings grow dull. The developers stated that they plan to add significant features such as base building which could dramatically change the game for the better. There's a promising foundation present, so it's possible to envision a more substantial game down the line. As it currently stands, though, our excitement to cross the universe faded sooner than we expected.
