Theirs a load of problems with this title but its still tolerable. Just needs some more polishing then I believe it will be worthy of a 7/10. Its not the best, but its also not the worst. Some parts are really injoyable then get ruined by the poor voice acting or animations. the beginning is really bad then it picks up a tad about 8 hours in. Best to probably pick it up on sale. Cons:
    -Poor animations
    -poor voice acting
-game freezes way to much. sometimes when im not even doing anything.
    -boring story
    -boring characters
-extremely glitchy (floating raptors, weird morphing faces, fell through stairs, hair failed to load in.)
    -repititive
    -sidequests
-typical villain. Not really enteresting either.

    Pros:
    Exploration
    multiplayer is fun
    combat is fun.
atmosphere (some areas, then usually gets ruined fast)

The game has me wanting to trudge on further into the story and the worlds but it in no way has me mesmerized of likes of great RPGs like the other MEs and Bethesda games.

I haven't noticed the animations issues too much, although I don't pay as much attention to those as others might and I find myself cutting the through the boring, droning dialog. One thing many of the reviews have spot on is the writing is very poor. Not sure what happened but writing is a cornerstone of any RPG and this is full of sophomoric one-liners and lacks character and story development, seriousness and sophistication. Critical people die and every one looks on as if nothing happened. The characters appear young, younger than prior installments, so maybe they are supposed to be wonder teens or something and this explains the lack of interesting dialog. But it's bad. You feel like you are missing nothing by clicking the space bar.

The characters and NPCs are god awful ugly, I mean maybe the ugliest I have ever seen rendered in a game. I don;t know if they have poor artists, bad tools, or its the political correctness gone wild that some talk about but there is nothing to look at in this game. If you are enticed by the warnings of nudity and strong sexual content look elsewhere as there is nobody here at all, male or female, that you'd want to see naked. If this is political correctness I don't know what they are trying to prove. I don't look like eye candy hollywood stars/model but I certainly like to look at them and don't feel devalued because pretty people happen to be in my video game.

I like the combat, however the first aliens you come across look like something out of Dragon Age and not a sci fi.

I never spend much time with character creation but for those that do, they really dumbed it down, it looks you get the choice of a head, that's it!

I'll re-post when I get through more of the game but have some bad feelings about it so far.

I don't expect perfection, don't mind a few bugs as modern RPG's are huge. I do expect a certain level of polish however, and ME: Andromeda has broken my trust with the Bioware name. I figured that EA wouldn't allow a franchise as golden as Mass Effect to go downhill or be rushed, especially after Dragon Age: Inquisition, but I was wrong. I had forgot that this wasn't the same team that did ME 1,2 3 and it shows. This barely feels like those games in overall feeling, which saddens me

First thing I noticed is the character creation section is lame. You are given all these very light hair colors but unable to create a very light skinned person, so that your skintone doesnt match the hair color. The lightest skin tone is terrible for a strawberry blonde or platinum blonde or very light skinned brunette. The hair styles are lame, no long haired styles at all, very boring and almost gender neutral. I had to start a new character because my first try looked good at the character setup but in game looked terrible with the amazingly bad and terrible facial and eye animations. My character was so unappealing I had to start the first hour over after realizing I couldnt stand looking at her.

The games atmospheres are beautiful as are the level design, and thats where the seemed to spend their performance points, because the animations for body and faces, and even voice acting is so bad at times. It's hard to really get immersed into a game when your character looks and behaves awkwardly even if the game makes amazing screenshots and wallpapers. The voice acting is so wooden at times, and the voices chosen for certain characters make you wonder what they were thinking. I felt there was some political SJW warrior stuff in this game where their shouldnt be as well.

I'm giving this game a 5 because its not terrible overall but the quality of the game could have been so much more. You look at Ashley or Miranda in ME and then any of the females in this game and its amazing that a game series which last had an entry in 2012 (ME3) looks better and more human like in performance and animations than a 2017 game, 5 years later.

This game is beautiful. Wonderful characters, beautiful locations, interesting story. And I like the appearance of Sarah. Yes. The problem is animation. If patch fix this, game will be rly cool and handsome. And game need more content for gay, more content for LI, like it was in DAI.

Too many of these reviews are fueled by fans still hurt by ME3's ending or people who care ENTIRELY too much about the animations that occur in the decision wheel conversations. If that's your big grief that's ridic. it's such a minor portion of the game. I've played the full EA access trial and I'm about 15 hours in at this point. This is a great game. No doubt about it. Is this game perfect, no it definitely is not, but I challenge anyone to find me a game of this size and scope that's fully polished upon initial release. It rarely if ever happens. I'm sure someone can find something wrong with every initial launch of a game in current next-gen era. We've demanded so much perfection from these dev companies that is quite frankly unrealistic at times. We demand more content, open spaces / worlds, multiplayer, high-end graphics, and expect it all to run at a smooth 60fps. Sure you'll get a gem from time to time, but I wouldn't say it's the norm. Every major software has bugs and is addressed via fixes in subsequent releases. Not sure why the video game industry is viewed so differently. I've been a huge fan of this series and I'm enjoying myself so far and I keep wanting to play more. Please don't be discouraged by the negativity surrounding this game. 90% is not warranted and based on unrealistic expectations in my humble opinion, but reviewers are reviewers and have to bring the controversy. A game has never made me cringe before. This game does it every ten minutes, easily. EASILY. It's fanfiction, everywhere, and political agenda, EVERYWHERE.
This is a bioware game, just as Dragon age: Inquisition, and Dragon Age 2 was. If this was the same studio that did Dragon age: origins, I'd be all over this game. But it isn't. It's horribly written, terribly paced, and ugly to boot.

It's horribly written, terribly paced, and ugly to boot. They recycled animations from previous games to use in their new engine and it's painfully obvious if you're a fan of the franchises. Where Mass Effect 2 had interesting characters and amazing dialogue, this game falls flat on it's face. The characters are annoying, they look horrible, they can't lip sync EVER, and the lines are cringy tumblr tags given form. "I'm sorry, my face is tired." WHAT? That's literally a tumblr tag, and it's not how people talk. Wow. There isn't an ounce of quality control in the game, as evidenced by rapidly changing directions makes your character walk while squatting, the lack of a white preset character (You can still be a white default ryder, but there are no white preset characters). The quality control for this studio is non-existant. The facial animations for all the characters are extremely creepy. If that was all that was wrong with the game, then it'd be fine! Because I play games to play them, generally, and not to hear a narrative. See, that'd be great, except I ruined my entire playthrough because a dialogue gets me stuck every time so I can't advance the story fifteen hours in. Great game! Won't bother restarting so put another 15 hours into this drivel. If this was an indie game, it'd be judged by different standards and people could see past the awful everything. But this is Mass Effect. This is a beloved franchise, and it's backed by one of the largest publishers in the world, EA. I'm not sure how bioware doesn't dissolve after this, and I also don't know how EA will recover their image after pouring their budget into the destruction of such a loved franchise.

I can't help but think this game was created so that EA can shut down Bioware without public outcry.
I think this was made badly, on purpose. How else could they show trailers with the guns backwards? Backwards as in, the pistol facing their own faces? Like, hello?

The control youre given as pathfinder is even more expansive then your role as Inquisitor. The graphics ( minus the small animation flaws) is breath taking. The side quests are the best ive seen yet in a bioware game.

Someone mentioned the main story only taking 15 hours, well ive played about 16 hours striaight, i couldnt stop playing it was so captivating, only a few games have pulled me in like that. And im no where close to done the main story. Im so excited to play more of it this evening.

The people are calling this garbage and a cash grab are most likely the same people that are still bitter over the ME3 ending, time to get over yourselves. And if you wanna nitpick at small flaws, look Witcher 3 had some bugs. It happens in gaming. We are not yet at a point where massive sandbox games that are delivered will not have any graphic flaws or bugs.

Its funny how there were over 100 negativd reviews yesterday, the release day. I say some 0/10s a couple hours after release. Those are the people not giving this beautiful a fair chance. For people that are unsure about this game, dont listen to people on this site. Go look up reviews elsewhere. Also, Scott Ryder's voice actor sounds like the same actor that does Nathan Drake's voice in Uncharted.

I have 2 recommendations. 1) Play this game, it's really good. 2) Go into it with an open mind. Much of the criticism the game is receiving is unwarranted.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. nybody reading the user "reviews" here need to keep one thing in mind, the "alt-right" has decided to run a vehement anti Bioware campaign against this game. They have decided that this game, but Bioware in particular, are anti "white" and part of that "liberal agenda" that they are so paranoid about .- you can find direct evidence of this scattered throughout the reviews but is more evident on their own websites. And as always on the internet, the dumb and the stupid, often very young and often who have not played the game, take up the call without understanding what is going on and repeat the same nonsense. This is sadly the internet of the 21st century where everyone can say anything with anonymity and without personal repercussion.

The game itself is not that bad at all. No it's not as "epic" as the original trilogy and the writing is not as "tight" but it is better than DA O - far better. In many ways, the gameplay itself is better than the original ME - certainly, the character "classes" are far more fluid and you have far more control over them. It also looks much better than people are saying - although it does seem to use far too many of the same assets as DO O. Although, this might be due to using the same engine and the limitations of said engine.

Anyway, overall, a game worth your attention. Just don't allow your perceptions of it to be shaped by a bunch of right wing hicks and give it ago.

--Awful character creation, barely any options from skin tone over hair, eyebrows and proportions for body and what not... Very bare bones!

--Laughable animations (face expressions and walking). You can't take the game serious most of the time.

--Very bad writing and story!. This is a complete "No Go" for an AAA RPG, it felt like it was made from and for 12y/o's, with many cringe jokes, which are again, immersion breaking! A Comedy at best!

--Terrible voice acting for the most part (VO/VA). The voice actors haven't seen any of those the scenes, so they just read the script! Huge mistake if they have no connection to the matter. That's what it also feels like, you don't get any connection to any of those characters.

--Gameplay is mediocre at best, generic semi open word scan this and that over and over, drive, drive, drive with fetch side qests. While the combat did improve a bit (from cover to jetpack, yay what an improvement...) and class/abillity/weapon freedom (this is only a matter of opinion, i liked how it was in ME2).

    --MANY design flaws!!! like...
"No life or death choices, No Paragon/Renegade system, you can't even be a dick to someone!!!!!"
"no tactical pausing, no ability to issue companions to use certain powers (one of the best gameplay thing in ME games for me)",
"UI is just painfully outdated, no search-bar, no wep-comparsion and bare bones for console.",
"annoying and time wasting (interacting hold E) and (20'secs Planet/System cam for scanning and exploration)"
"quicksave... (if you die or exit the game or it crashes, you might loose progress)"

--BUGS and other issues, not acceptable the huge amount!!! From ghosting, disappearing or light speed moving people in the background during dialogues, AI- suddenly spawning and disappearing in general in you ship, AI pathfinding indoor (they acting weird indoor), twitching body parts, blur-ish hair bugs, gfx flickering, performance problems in some areas...

AND MUCH MORE I MAY NOT CAN THINK OF RIGHT NOW...

So what's positive about the game? Graphics and combat for some... And thats not it, nor combat what makes a Mass Effect game!.
And yet people still buy it, even if they KNOW all the problems, because? "you can bang?"

    Combat:
The combat is super weak and totally unsatisfying. The cover system is more sloppy than it's predecessors, and doesn't viscerally lock you in place. Compared to other cover based shooters, this game is sub-par by far. On harder difficulties the enemies can melt you whenever you accidentally break cover, which is super easy to do. Your NPC companions are best used as distracting meat shields while you dish all the damage. Combat is by the numbers with cover more of an annoyance than anything else. Encounters usually boil down to dying once or twice until it randomly plays better. The player just doesn't have control over the battles. Cheese tactics reign supreme here. Just hide and force the AI to chase you down a corridor. The combat is just horsesh**. Coupled with inexplicably abysmal frame rates in combat I'm just not sure what EA intended to push out the door. (I'm running a GTX 1070)

This game amounts to nothing more than minimum viable fan service. ALL you have to do to make a successful ME game is take the best parts of ME 1&2 and turn that into a exploration game. Stop trying to make this an epic cinematic experience. These story lines are all used up. I don't need a super villain, just create a survival type game where I get to explore space, uncover mysteries, and upgrade my gear, base, ships etc...

They have, of course, made most of the target of their ire a woman and a non-white man who worked on the game - claiming that they are terrible at their job and were only hired because of SJWs infiltrating the video game industry (who apparently wish to hire people that aren't white men who are bad at their job just to fill diversity quotas? or some such equally crazy claim).

It's of course ridiculous to blame any failings of such a large project on only a couple of people. Logic doesn't really matter when you're just looking for someone to attack as a part of your crusade against the evil SJWs however.

Anyway, I wrote this mainly to throw a reasonable score into the mix of what appears to be a bunch of reactionaries giving the game 0's and 1's because they decided this game was their next target. The game itself is good, but not amazing. It's typical Mass Effect fare. It has a lot of issues but at the end of the day, but it remains enjoyable to its interesting setting and some fun gameplay mechanics. I hope a fun series like this isn't killed because a bunch of lunatics decided to attack it.

I think its funny how people rate 0 and 1, so pretty much saying games like resident evil umbrella corps is better, they obviously don't know anything about rating a game, this game is not unplayable and isn't so glitchy that you are unable to progress, those are the games that truly deserve such a low score.

People seem to have taken all the hype about the animations and blown it out of the water, as if the game is now unplayble, while they are annoying in many cases, humans especially they aren't game breaking, the devs know and have said that it is in their plans to fix them, which in all reality means you can wait alittle bit before getting. The game has a decent story, its nothing oscar worthy, but still enjoyable if you liked the universe that the other mass effects were in. Its refreshing to see some new faces and to see where they will go from this game. The aliens species look great, its mostly the humans animations that need the work, because on many occassions it looks like your character is starstruck or dumbfounded by the conversation but this game is better than most "supposed" bad games,

My advice is stick with the critic reviews, but seems that most of the real user reviews are drowned out by those still salty about the ME3 endings, feminists or like the one guy who claimed he played 50+ hours when the game only allowed 10hrs early access and less then 24 hrs after the release of the game. The bad reviews are quite hilarious so i won't stop you to read them, some good ones in the mix, but most are just laughable, but enjoy, good luck to you!

Gone is the platinum setting, so only bronze, silver, and gold remain; however, the waves seem harder. The same basic character progression is in place (six skill levels, first 3 with one skill, and the next 3 with 2 skills of which you choose 1). Leveling points are the same as well. I'm not sure how points for purchasing items in the store compare, as I have yet to make it through a bronze level 10. The weapons are more limited, but they will likely release more with DLC packs or updates. The maps feel like a step back from ME3. In fact, everything kind of feels like a step back from ME3. It's frustrating to see the quality in the game be lost amidst the rough portions. I am really enjoying the feel of the game, the combat, the planet exploration, the codex reading, and the "talkie techie" stuff in the game. But I can't defend the poor animation choices and poor human character design, thinner plot, and rough dialogue. Thankfully for me, those issues have not persuaded me to abandon the game because they are not always present - and sometimes they actually work well. Please don't think it's all bad. The big funny thing is that everything is flawless except the FX effects. They are a little bit clumsy. Everybody gripe about things which are flawless, but nobody does it about the effects. But they are still ok.

This might not be a deal breaker for some, but I'm afraid that it is for me.
I like immersion, I like feeling part of a strange, new world while escaping the boring old one.
However, every time I spoke to a npc that look like it was a resident of the uncanny valley or I heard a piece of dialog that sounded like it was read from the back of a cereal box, I was zapped right out the world and back to my own.
I believe this game is a failure as a role-playing game, more so when you account the amount of money, time and effort that went into it.
I now have to accept that the bioware that I knew and loved is dead,
I wanted so hard for this game to be good but I cannot in good faith recommend it to RPG fans.
I suppose if you want something to pass the time and aren't too fussy about what you play, it does have good combat and nice scenic visuals but prepared to be extremely disappointed if you expect anything more.

While the original trilogy is my favorite game series, it lacked the ability to explore the Milky Way. Yes the story was incredible and it sucked you in. But lets be honest, while I very much enjoyed the first Mass Effect it wasn't an incredible game. The revealing of Sovereign and the truth and existence of the Reapers is the only thing from the first game that I really enjoyed. The combat and leveling system was tiring, the "exploration" of planets was boring and drab. While Mass Effect 2 & 3 developed the series into a story driven action shooter the franchise needed something new. The ability to explore planets a more was something I wanted in the first three games rather than "scanning planets" to upgrade the Normandy and find resources.

ME:Andromeda is breaking new ground. I didn't expect the critics or most gamers to love it or embrace it. Gaming culture seems to want to find the flaws and poke holes and troll everything. Lets face it, most people are looking for something to complain about. Andromeda feels like a Mass Effect game. It's new in its own way and that's exactly what I was hoping for instead of recycling the same formula over and over again like the Uncharted, Call of Duty, Assassins Creed and Halo series. All of those series lost their appeal at about the 3rd game and nothing new pulled me in and kept me wanting to come back, it was just more of the same and Mass Effect was on its way there too.

Is Andromeda a perfect game? No, none of the Mass Effect games have been perfect. The facial animations are off but compared to other new games that are receiving so much praise like Horizon: Zero Dawn I don't see much of a difference. So many times I've been running around with Aloy and it looks incredibly unnatural. The same for cut-scenes where body movements and facial expressions look off. But lets remember, they are games, graphics have come as far as they can and it's incredible when you look at games 15-20 years ago. Andromeda is beautiful, especially on my 4k TV.

The combat is new and refreshing, the R&D is new and deeper than any other Mass Effect game, the game feels huge and expansive. Something I had hoped for the original trilogy but it never lived up to. The game gives you more freedom than the previous 3 without it being so open it's aimless and pointless. There is a fine line and Bioware is looking for it, have they found it, not quite but they are getting close.

Give Andromeda a chance, have an open mind. I fully expect the next installment to improve just like ME2 did. If you go into a game expecting it to be bad, then you'll hate it. Plain and simple. If you don't like change stick to the franchises that don't take risks and just recycle everything but don't bash a game because it's not perfect and different. The market will become stagnant if no one tries anything new, and lets be honest, for the past couple of years it has started to stagnate.

Bioware has never made a horrible game. All of their games have had strengths and weaknesses, pros and cons. So has every other game ever made. Some games have engrossing stories, some have incredible action, some are beautiful but no game is perfect. Andromeda is setting up the franchise to expand and grow and it will improve just as ME2 did. I have not been disappointed after waiting 5 years for this game. I look forward to the next installment and playing this game again and again just as I've played the first 3.

    - the enemies could have been more diverse
    - the explorations sometimes feel shallow like DA:I had some similar areas.
    - the space exploration and scanning is back and becomes boring despite the nice animation we get while jumping from planet to planet.

Good: The story is quite decent, also the history of the Ryders and Ryder Sr is nicely explained, why he was so cold, distant, what made him research SAM, and so on.
    - Companions are pretty diverse, also it shows us turians krogan salarians that are not the standard type of their races, Vetra is pretty much opposed to Garrus, as is Kallo Jath total opposite of Mordin but he is funny as hell, as are the rest. The dialogue with them reveal interesting things and they more diverse and also their beliefs.
    - Combat is great fluid flawless a bit slow at first but after getting some levels it becomes really fun.
    - Jet packs. Do i need to say more ?

    - Visuals while exploring are absolutely stunning on some planets and take your breath away.
-Diplomacy and how you handle diverse quests are definitely fun
    - Also side quests are pretty diverse you get quests where you have to make morality choices, for example let some on who is condemned unfairly although he wanted to kill that said character ? Release him and maybe he will do it again, or exile him and be sure he won't hurt any one else but this will probably kill him. You also have the basic quests go there do that, go find that, go scan that etc.
    - Combat is fluid and great, combos that you can later do alone or with your team are pretty awesome, It starts slow but after getting a few levels it becomes better and better.
    - Jet Packs. Do I need to say more ? Freaking jet pack makes me wonder how did we play the previous games without it.
    - The new Mako is great, it's everything the old Mako should be, you got 2 modes for it. It looks great it moves great.
    - The tempest looks good slick and fast totally different from the Normandy but a breath of fresh air, also the messages exchanged between them nice and sometimes funny. The ships seems way bigger inside than you would expect.
    - Crafting is simple good and straight, great for people who don't wanna waste a lot of time crafting something or are not fun of it.
-Weapons are pretty diverse and varies in range and utility. Melee weapons are a blast.

My advice: play the game if you can make your own idea and if you don't like it ask for a refund.
As far as i'm concerned this is a great game that gets a lot of unnecessary hate and bashing. I hope you guys at least play the game than give bad grades and reviews.

Reading through the user written reviews, the most common thing I have seen is "this doesn't feel like a Mass Effect game," followed closely by "this isn't the game Mass Effect fans have been waiting for."

I've also seen a lot of 0 and 1 scores that seem to be based on nothing but pure spite. Now being a little over 8 hours into the game, I am more convinced that a lot of the reactions are due to people building this up in their own minds.

Now granted, some of the criticisms are very legitimate. While I disagree that "these characters obviously had to leave the Milky Way because they suffer from some horrible disease that make them ugly and walk funny," I have seen more of the movement issues people are complaining about.

I've read others, though, that indicate to me that the person just didn't seem to be paying attention to the story and had their own story that they wanted to see play out. They didn't get that, so they have decided to chuck their toys out of the stroller and cry. That being said:

My Score: 6.5/10, rounded to 7

Areas where I agree with the criticism:

    1) Graphics issues: the facial expressions are a bit strange at times. They do, however, tend to elicit a chuckle at times. However, I find the complaints that they are "broken" hyperbolic.

    2) Movement: This is mainly an issue in the cut scenes, but the characters don't seem to move fluidly. It's a very mechanical way of moving about, like they are all androids playing at being human, and not doing it well.

    3) Sub-quests: After Witcher 3, it is difficult to sit through an endless loop of "fetch this widget," or "clear out this area" that has no real impact other than experience farming. A couple of them seem to have decisions that you are TOLD will have an impact, but the only impact I've seen is to the amount of experience my character has.

    4) Soundtrack: It's not bad, but it isn't good either. It is just sort of there.

    Now some areas of disagreement:

    1) Story: I think the most common criticism's boil down to "Ryder isn't Shepard." Umm... duh. In Mass Effect, Shepard was already an experienced warrior who knew who he was. Your only real influence over him was making him a paragon or rogue. Ryder is unsure of himself. He has been thrust into a position of authority even HE wonders if he actually deserves and had the fate of the entire Milky Way contingent placed upon him. As a huge fan of "coming of age" stories, I like seeing this.

    2) Dialogue wheel: I like that you are given some more nuanced options, though a bit miffed that in too many cases, it only you the "emotional" response or the "logical" response. The answers, though, fir very much in with how I perceive Ryder to be. He is a young man living under his father's shadow. So many times, you meet people that joined the expedition because of your father.

    3) Sidekicks: The obligatory "one of each type" is present. However, I like the fact that they are voiced well and aren't afraid to hint OR blatantly TELL Ryder that they disagree with him.

    4) Writing: I've seen a LOT of complaints about the writing, and I really have to disagree with this criticism. Are there some cringeworthy lines? Absolutely, especially when Ryder is trying too hard. Kind of like a kid who is TRYING to play grown up and making a mistake because he lacks experience. Which is exactly what he is. This is not ME2, with a team composed of the best of the best of the best.

***SMALL SPOILER: You learn this early in the game***

General Observation: Many of the criticisms I've seen seem to indicate that the person wasn't paying a lot of attention to the narrative playing out. Everyone in a position of power on the Nexus WAS NOT INTENDED TO DO THE JOB THEY ARE DOING. The upper command was killed either by the encounter with the scourge or during the uprising. Alex Ryder dies on the first world he explores.

EVERYONE has been thrust into a position of power for which they are not ready. They are stumbling along, trying to do they best they can. Some are obviously in over their heads, while others are rising to the challenge.

    ***END SPOILER***

Many people seem to be expecting some sort of continuation of Shepard, or for him to feature a bit more in this title. However, they seem to be forgetting that when the arks left the Milky Way Galaxy, Shepard was in the middle of the events of Mass Effect 2.

In the 20 hours I've played I've come to enjoy the company of these new companions.

In reference to the animations - the alien animations looks stellar, I think there might be a little uncanny valley going on with the humans - aside from stilted animations and some glitches that have been meme'd already, it's not that bad. Similar to DA:I and other bioware games, in my opinion.

The graphics actually look very, very good - especially on PC. I recently finished DA:I and I feel like they learned their lessons in some regards with this game, I actually care about learning more about the planets I land on. I care about the side quests FAR more than I did in DA:I.

I've wanted, for 5 years now - a game that lets me explore with my Turian, Asari, Krogan and Salarian buddy's. I'm a little disappointed that they don't have Qarians out of the gate, but maybe later - or DLC. However, this game has given me what I wanted. It delivered the promise to me, anyways. Its actually FAR more similar to 1 than 2 and 3 of the original trilogy - which is welcome.

While it's not the god game of the century that people thought it would be, it's a solid entry in the series and I look forward to more adventures in this new galaxy. I would give it an honest 9/10, but because there are people on here giving is 0's for no logical reason (seriously, have you even played the game?) I will give this game a 10 from me, which I don't do very often, in fact - I rarely review games on public forums - but this game deserves my support.

Thank you for taking the time to read this honest opinion on this game!

When it comes to sci-fi I'm not particularly fond of the dark and bleak atmosphere of those those game. Mass Effect Andromeda seems to go in the opposite direction.

The story is one of optimism and discovery rather than extinction and doom. Even the interiors of ships are different. Where the Normandy was all black and orange, the ships in Andromeda are white and blue giving them a clean and sleek sci-fi look, which I like. I personally found the story and most dialogue to be interesting despite a few moments of incredibly bad writing. These moments are cringe-worthy to be sure, but when it shines, it shines brightly.

Unlike most Bioware games, the combat is definitely the best part of this game, and this is from someone who doesn't really like shooters. There are a lot of ways to customize your character's combat abilities and you can change up your roles so if you find you don't like one role, you don't have to worry about starting a new character to try out another. The combat is fast and fun and allows you to mix in gun play, melee, and biotics (space magic) to sow chaos across the battlefield and make your enemies cry like babies. This is somewhat surprising considering the lead combat designer is a massive white-hating racist. I guess talent and being a decent person do not need to go together.

The environments are also quite beautiful and diverse ranging from jungles to deserts to icy snow-covered tundras. Tearing across them in my not-Mako was pretty fun, though it quickly becomes clear that they are really just empty albeit beautiful set pieces.

The game does have a number of issues that have been pointed out by many others. The character animations are often awkward and janky, which is par for the coarse from a Bioware game. The facial animations are where the most laughs will come from. Some range from robotic to downright bizarre, but always gave me a good chuckle. Many may find this immersion breaking, but I've always been able to compartmentalize these sorts of things from my immersion, so it wasn't really an issue for me. Luckily, I have not encountered any game breaking bugs during my play-through.

The side-quest structure is also nothing to write home about, with them often resembling MMO fetch quests. Fortunately, while not very interesting, these quests do give at least a sense of progression toward the goal of colonizing the galaxy.

All in all, the game speaks more of what could have been. It's wasted potential is glaringly obvious even to those who never played the original trilogy. The game ultimately feels rushed and it is apparent that Bioware did not hire the best to work on this game, settling on the merely average. The Mass Effect legacy deserves better than this as do its fans. It is merely an average game that objectively deserves a 5/10 but I gave it a 6 simply because of the personal enjoyment I squeezed out of it. Perhaps next time, Bioware will focus on hiring and retaining the best people for the job rather then hiring to meet diversity quotas. After all, diversity for diversity's sake does not a good game make.

Mass Effect Andromeda present itself as a re-imagination of the beloved series which tries to capture discovery aspect of ME1 and character-driven epic-plot from ME2. But unfortunately it fails in almost every aspect of it.

To begin with I'd say that MEA has the best environment among all of Mass Effects games. Planets looks exotic, interesting to explore and distinct from each other.

And that's all the good stuff.
On the other note, we were told by Bioware Montreal that we can expect ME2 level of characters and deep, intriguing, exciting interaction with them like it was in ME2. And on that front it is a complete bust. Protagonists and their crew are straightforward, awkward and rather ludicrous (not even accounting for facial animation).
The other part of bad character writing and plot itself is lackluster warped dialog wheel, where you don't even have binary paragon/renegade option. Rather, in most cases it has only one option divided into two just for an illusion of options.
But that's just ruined core values of the series, somehow MEA manages to turn cinematic-single player RPG into mediocre MMO. Forget about epic stories of curing genophage, chasing villains and saving planets. Now you are a Pathfinder - Sudoku-solver, space-plumber, bug-collector and fungus-scanner and of course in order to complete all these collect-fetch quests you have to travel all over the map on the Nomad, clunky ground car.
And now the funniest part - even praised by many reviewers combat system actually looks like 5th wheel in a car. Here is the thing - designers of MEA just without thinking pasted on jump-jets onto ME3 combat system, where you can survive without a cover just a few seconds. And more than that, many of ME3 skills were ground based (charge, nova, shockware) which requires target to be on or slightly above the ground. And everything would be fine in MEA to, but many species are flying, so your skill can't do damage to them. These things turns brilliant ME3 combat into "cheap Chinese clone".
Overall it feels and plays like mediocre clone of greatest game series.

P.s. Just to mention it, there is also many of technical issues like: Facial animation, technically bad UI (which again looks like a mediocre copy of ME3 UI) , frame drops, audio clipping, p2p multiplayer and many more.

The jury is out on the story and characters, although I loved colonising my first planet. Some of the systems are too complex and burdensome, rather than flowing from the rest of the game.

The quest design is not W3 standards but it is a noticeable improvement over DA:I. Having completed the first open-world planet I did not feel any of the boredom and frustration I did in that game. Any of the random encounters are worth engaging in since the combat is so fun and varied - I think the combat is so open that it produces novel and emergent battle scenarios. I enjoy the feeling of progression - from the building of colonies to the improvements in the Nexus hub-station. I think the multi-player is just fine, it is too similar from ME3 to truly stand-out, but it is nice to boot it up from inside the single-player and a good change of pace from the campaign.

However I can honestly say that my overall experience from playing the game has been joy. I think the game has its flaws and I can see it is not for everyone, but personally I am completely enthralled by the galaxy Bioware have built and feel very happy that I have another 50-100 hours left to spend in it.

Sure, the human facial animations are a bit weird and awkward at times, and I've noticed a few technical issues here and there; but honestly, it's not that much different than my experience with Dragon Age: Inquisition or Fallout 4, and it doesn't break the game experience for me.

I don't expect top-notch graphic/technical quality from Bioware - they produce great stories and great characters and have always had some short-comings elsewhere. To expect differently is to be deluded. Most companies do not have the time or freedom to produce a game to whatever insane standards people create for them. And I'm looking at you Witcher 3 and the arm-less dwarf and book-in-head woman and crashing to grey geometry world before a horse race. You can still call a game good or even great even with it's flaws. Andromeda is one of these games that people just need to give a break to.

So far, I've found the characters interesting. The voice acting can be iffy at times, but most of it is pretty decent. The environments are beautiful. I was near immediately engaged in the story and the mystery of this new system. I've enjoyed doing the side quests around the Nexus. I've enjoyed exploring Eos. I know there is so much potential in this game, and I can't wait to discover it all. I never expected some grand new twist on "let's go planet to planet and fight aliens" - that is exactly what Mass Effect is. Why does it need to be some ground breaking amazing story? I haven't seen a ground breaking amazing story that was super original anywhere in entertainment recently, but there HAVE been lots of many good or great stories, and so far Andromeda is shaping up to be one of them.

The menus can be a bit daunting at first, but once you figure out where everything is, it's smooth sailing from there. My only major complaint is the travel time between systems and planets on the galaxy map. It looks gorgeous, but it's slow, annoying, and wastes time. I still explored and read about every planet I could though. Some people also find the scanning tedious, but I don't mind throwing up my scanner for everything.

At the end of the day, it's truly not as game-breakingly bad as everyone makes it out to be. Give the game a chance and judge for yourself. Bioware never promised things that weren't given. Andromeda is, 100%, exactly what I was expecting, and in fact, it's surprised me in many ways.

For a gaming company I once considered the most innovative, most provocative story tellers with some above par game-play, I cannot express enough about my disappointment for "Mass Effect Andromeda." For a gaming company I once considered the most innovative, most provocative story tellers with some above par game-play, I cannot express enough about my disappointment for "Mass Effect Andromeda." Bioware's nature to decline in quality from the glory days of "Dragon Age Origins" and the original "Mass Effect" series continues here.

This game is a glorified terrible sequel/reboot, that suffers from texture pop ins and frame rate issues on the PS4 PRO. The animations are some of the worst carny looking examples that are full of bugs and baffle me how they got through testing with someone thinking anything beside "This looks horrible." (They're almost disturbing)

The game feels rushed, underwhelming and the story is a shell of the former glory of the original series. It's actually a very shocking result after the debacle of a ending that was the climax of the first trilogy. The characters are all worse than their original counter parts, and when you naturally compare them to the original cast all you can feel is a longing that you were back with your original gang from the first series, they were at least interesting and left the player with a emotional connection. You cannot grow a attachment for these lifeless monstrosity mannequins.

The games FILLED with uninteresting, none engaging filler side-quests, If I wanted to play a MMO style game i'd simply play a MMO, there is absolutely no excuse for quests that have no meaning to the game or story, it's off putting and makes the gamer want to stop playing. The tragedy of this is that there are some actual decent quests in the game. Unfortunately, there is no way to differentiate between a engaging quest and another pointless fetch filler quests - leaving you to ultimately abandon side-quests all together because of how off putting the filler quests are. It's very shameful considering that decade old bioware games didn't suffer from the misery of fetch quests yet almost every recent "Bioware" title thinks implementing them in their games is a good idea.

The illusion of choice is also apparent in this game. There are less than a handful of meaningful choices in a game which is supposed to have story driven content based of the users decisions, which I find a cardinal sin as this being a "Bioware" game. Casting out the "Paragon/Renegade" system is fine and dandy. However, removing the element of choice all together is completely unacceptable, it feels like fallout 4 all over again. It's truly heartbreaking.

The combat is below mediocre and a let down in general, you also cannot issue commands beside "stand here" to any of your companions. I'd give it a pass however, when the rest of the of the game truly lacks any strengths it's just another terrible example of why Biioware getting in bed with EA was the absolute worst idea for the studio. It's also mentioning that the game does not have a "quick save" option IN 2017! Terrible, and you also run the risk of corrupting your save if you save inside your ship.

A truly buggy experience that I'm shocked pass the editor's floor, this game at the very least should have been delayed and fixed all of the terrible bugs that hinder the game. Even then, I truly doubt it would be enough to save this terrible example of a game. A tremendous disappointment and every single person involved in this projected should be ashamed of themselves. It's more of a insult to the "Mass Effect" universe and those who loved this franchise than the original's trilogy's ending. Congratulations Bioware/EA you did what you seem to do best lately, disappoint.

It's like someone at Bioware decided that Mass Effect needed it's own Dragon Age 2 to permanently damage the reputation of it's only remaining franchise that most people still held in good regard, despite the rocky third entry.

The game is good. There are minuses but they are everywhere and facial animation and the like. Bioware have repeatedly said that they work with these technologies in the first races before everything was different according to this, they can forgive it, but in general the game was like. Nothing in this game is memorable. The better part is when the game ends.

This game should not have been part of the Mass Effect universe. I thought that Bioware would have learnt their lesson from ME3 but Noooo they got even worse. Everything about this game is Terri-bad, from the writing to the voice acting and don't let me get started with the animations. Shame on you Bioware for releasing this piece of sh*t that you call a game.

I was expecting a good story with awesome characters, bur everything about this garbage is lifeless and banal. It's like they tapped the B Team of noobs to make this. It seems like most of it is just cut and paste and then someone tried to "fix" it and make it more organic which just destroyed it even more.

Story was subpar. First encounts and the aliens are lackluster in creativity: You have a whole new galaxy for a clean slate and you make it the exact same as the milky way.

To say the least, go play Gwent: The Wild Hunt instead. I had more entertainment (Albeit less spastic laughing at the horrible dialoge) from a mini game than I was in Andromeda.

Mass Effect Andromeda, while an alright game (about 7-8/10) is definitely a flawed game. I don't think I have to tell you about the numerous animation bugs I've seen in the game. I'm pretty sure memes helped enough in that regard. I will say that I myself personally thought the story was okay. It didn't seem to have the same urgency or weight as the OT, but I didn't really expect it to. We're not fighting Reapers again in this game. As well, I thought the beginning part of the game was rather slow, with the first two companions you receive not being fleshed out as well as they could've been. However, as the game went on I did enjoy it more.

In the end, while not being the perfect game I expected, it still was alright.

However, the first main-line mission after that signals the beginning of what can thus far only be called a tremendously uncoordinated mess. There is enjoyable game-play in here, and unlike many, I like the return to ME1 facets, but there are serious structural issues whose origin lie at Bioware's feet.
Most problematic is a complete lack of cohesiveness. There are emails referencing a character you can't have met before the end of the first mission. You meet one group, and, despite the characterization of that group as initially untrusting, there is no evidence of it there after. Now, It may just be that this event occurs at a rough bridge in the narrative, a poor section needed to facilitate larger things to come, but I doubt it somehow. Over all, there seems a lack of direction. The game needed a focus, and it sorely lacks that, being torn between the enjoyable notions of establishing a foothold for the people's of the Milky Way in Andromeda, and a larger narrative that would be better served by being set on the back-burner and allowed to build for future installments

There are also, already, a number of glaring story-telling holes:

-At one point, you speak with a member of an adversarial force while your ship deals with a navigation issue. The Ship-board computer informs you that it will need time to re-establish navigation, but instead of using that opportunity to talk with the adversary, and to expand the story, it's squandered, making an opportunity for a moment like meeting Sovereign on Virmire wasted.
-The Player Character has a lot of background knowledge that the player isn't privy to. This leads to big questions that are unanswered, save outside of lip-service in the codex or in ham-fisted conversations.
-Additionally, for a series which, by all rights, should be focusing on continuity, the sudden creation of a galaxy wide colonization effort that was entirely unmentioned in the original trilogy, but which took place at the same time is ridiculous, and there is little reason that this story couldn't have its roots post-ME3, leaving the reason for the colonization effort up in the air, instead of shoe-horning it in to the existing timeline.
-Overall, from 13 hours of play, I'm not at all confident in the ability of the story to resolve its key issues, nor to satisfactorily move from plot point to plot point, which is frankly unacceptable when there are clear avenues for the narrative to follow. I suspect that there was too little in the way of sharing the game for feedback. Or at least, not a rigorous enough approach to plotting in the writing room.

With regards to the Characters, separate from the larger story:

-Your crew mates are hit and miss, with uneven characterization. While accusations of one-dimensional-ness are false, it seems not to be for want of trying by the writing team. If you accept that Shepard had some of the galaxy's best around them during the Original Trilogy, the flawed nature of Ryder's crew, and their slightly scruffier aesthetic is acceptable, and its nice not to surrounded by wunderkind and characters who would be the hero if the Player Character wasn't there. Their flaws are in some regards, a welcome addition. That said, they are often too leaned on for characterization. Additionally, while its nice that some characters don't have backgrounds rooted in established Mass Effect organizations like C-Sec, they have an annoying tendency to be the "I do what I think it right, and don't play by the rules" types, or the one exception, a starched shirt with poorly written abandonment issues, who's motivating scars in life don't fit with established cannon.

And, moving on due to dwindling character count:

-The Galaxy map is poorly designed, taking too long to do anything, for too little reward.
-The non-menu UI is at times fine, but is often too imprecise, or actively obstructive (Try selecting different locations on the main colonization hub),
-The removal of the power wheel is a poor design decision, as they provide nothing to allow for situational awareness in its place, making combat more about looking around and covering your own backside than fighting.
-The Menus are counter productive, and too deeply layered in places, and lack obvious features like the ability to compare items when looking to buy new gear from in-game merchants.
-At the very least, outfit customization is a mess, with it seemingly not working on PC, and with the location you select armour pieces miles away from where you choose your colours, requiring you to drop out of the menu, run through your ship, and switch out parts before running back if you wish to make a change.

Over all, I am disappointed, not in the game, because I love the world and series, but at the seeming incompetence of execution by Bioware and EA. They have no excuses.

It's heart breaking to know they botched this title in a serious way and it shows very clearly. All the positive reviews are also a massive let down from the community as they only serve to support or enable terrible travesties to be made out of a once beloved and well regarded franchise.

I have canceled my pre-order for a full refund. I refuse to support companies which such a blatant disregard for quality control let alone drop the ball on essential things like facial animation and engaging dialogue. Out of this I will never again pre-order any game from EA or Bioware again.

Yes, the character modeling feels about the same as ME3 and the face mechanics are subpar - there are the usual Bioware technical glitches during conversations - but nothing a few patches can't fix.

ACTUAL SCORE: 9 (Inflated to counteract the man-babies giving zero and one's because they pre-hate the game)

This game is everything I was hoping for and more. I was a big fan of the original trilogy. I am also a fan of well made open world games. However, the biggest draw here for me is the science fiction setting. I love science fiction in all mediums and Mass Effect is the undisputed king of space opera in the world of video games.

Bioware delivers once again on pulling you into an immersive science fiction adventure in a unique universe with a great cast of characters. Hitting the reset button really revives the series for me. Being able to ditch the old cast and move on to a new galaxy with new species is wonderful. The focus on exploration is extremely welcome to me as it was one of the biggest things that the original trilogy failed to deliver.

The size of the hub worlds are wonderful compared to previous games. Your spaceship is an awesome area that lets you soak in the atmosphere of being in space. The Nexus, humanity's space station in Andromeda, is an expansive area that serves as this games Citadel, and it is also very cool to explore and larger than any of the old games Citadels.

I love the combat now and the way the maps are designed with more verticality involved. The jump-jet makes exploration and movement much more free and exciting. There are so many different ways you could design a class build in this game, and I have the feeling I will be playing through many times and testing out those possibilities.

The graphics are stellar, which makes some of the character animations look silly by comparison. That was quite true throughout the original trilogy as well though and I think the focus on that by gamers is silly. To be distracted from such a wonderously deep game with so much going for it by some crappy animations here and there, is just a waste.

If you are willing to let this game pull you in and tell you its story, it will blow you away. If you are going in as a skeptic who doesn't really have time to play it anyway and just wants some **** to feel superior about, do us all a favor and move on to trolling the next thing you want to try and suck the joy out of.

It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.
