From the lack of options for character creation, to the slow moving story, this game seems very rushed. I am a very big fan of Mass Effect 1-3, but this barely compares. Not a fan, would not recommend.

While my love for the series as a whole has tempered my opinion to this game, I can honestly say for certain that after about fifteen hours into it I'm still enthralled. As Ryder, I've been taking my time exploring what the new setting has to offer, and have been going through the missions one step at a time. It's really taken hold of me, and I can't wait to see the end. (I've heard it's disappointing, but I'll let my own judgement decide that for me)

That being said, the game has issues. Lots of issues. Glitches, animation bugs, questionable design choices...The set pieces are nice, the RPG aspects of the Mass Effect series seem to be making a return from the original, the character customization might be a bit lacking in the appearance department and the...female models definitely leave a lot to be desired. These slightly mar the experience a bit, but it's definitely not enough to give this game anything below a 5 or a 6-point score.

Rather than giving it a point, though, what I want to do is RECOMMEND THIS GAME FOR PURCHASE. It's not perfect, and the whole experience is kind of hampered by the fact that (1) a lot of folks were expecting so much and (2) it's riding off of the coat-tails (and the controversy that follows it) of Mass Effect 3, but I sincerely hope that they give Ryder their own trilogy to rival the original. There's a lot they can learn from with this game, and I hope they take those experiences to make the next one event better.

Bioware did a total betray, after leading the game industry in progressiveness. The gameplay is alright, but they also seemed to screw over pure biotic/tech players as there are a million different guns and only 3 ability slots. Sure you can switch your loadout, but then they all go on cooldown and it really messes up the flow of action. The cryo perks are mostly about crafting which is mostly about weapons, so once again, it's all about non-tech/biotic builds. Also the plot...The whole "youre the only one who can save the world so special everyone follows you" trope was fun for one, maybe two games, but it's boring now, The story itself doesn't seem very original, making me roll my eyes more times than feel any sense of wonder. Firstly, Id like to get the reason I scored it extremely low out of the way. In terms of the game content and quality I'd rate Andromeda around the 4 maybe even 5 out of 10, you can see glimpses of a good game hidden here. So why the zero score? To be honest its to counteract the biased scores that hardcore fans have been giving this game. I totally understand where their coming from, no one likes people trashing on stuff they like its natural. However I hope as true fans of the series you can see that this franchise deserves so much more and that scoring Andromeda anything beyond a 6 is an exaggeration and only serves to downplay the franchise and present to people that mass effect fans have low standards.

Bluntly put as consumers we deserved so much more then an unfinished and unpolished game riddled with bugs and technical issues (I've crashed quite a number of times) of which unfortunately is the group Andromeda is in. With that out of the way let me address the cons of this game so new comers and old fans that haven't pre-order yet can know what exactly their jumping into.

Right of the bat you're treated to some of the most horrendous character designs and animations that make u paused and wonder if they transferred this particular part of the game creation to some shady third party. The contrast in quality between your characters and the level is striking with emotionless faces being the norm in almost every conversation, not a soothing thought when mass effect highly prides itself in conversations and character buildup. Speaking of character buildup its very weak, at least in comparison to previous mass effects. Everyone seems too willing to be your pawn and despite bioware clear attempt to introduce varied personalities, none of them brought a sense of companionship instead feeling very artificial and forced.

Gameplay wise Andromeda gun fights are fun despite the AI occasional suicidal nature. Its clear from the start though that Bioware focused more on the shooter elements then the RPG side. The game is much more fast pace and hectic then previous iterations and this might put some old time fans off. The removal of locking you to a class is a good improvement and helps more people experience different classes as opposed to starting all over, you can also mix skills between classes.

In conclusion, I really can't recommend this game to anyone. Sure the fights can be fun, the levels can look amazing. However the cons makes this a game worth passing. If you're a sci-fi junkie or/and mass effect fan like me, then I'd suggest you wait till bioware comes and fix the glaring issues plaguing the game. Ultimately this score reflects my opinion that a game should never be released in this state.

I really wanted to like this game, the series only got better after the original Mass Effect, and after a 5 year wait I had high hopes and expectations. I've played about 20 hours in now and unfortunately it seems the wind in the sails of the series died out long ago (I'll update the review if any of that changes, but at this point I don't think I can take more punishment from this game without some major fixes). From funky animations, homely looking uninteresting character, to a questionable story and boring repetitive gameplay. To make matters worse, the different parts of the game don't even mesh real well with one another; it's like a whole bunch of different people worked on different parts of the game and failed to ever communicate with one another. It has left the game at launch to be one big dysfunctional mess.

Starting out it goes wrong real quick. The default characters are certainly nothing to write home about. Male Ryder is salvageable, but Female Ryder looks plain bad. Attempting to fix it in the CC is no easy task either. You cannot modify the default faces and the pre-set CC faces are one step above abominations. One you decide upon a face, again another challenge presents itself in the form of a very (think 2002) simple CC, there aren't many options available and whatever you come up with will always resemble the pre-set face.

The poorly implemented animations hit you almost immediately, and continue throughout. From odd facial expression to no expression at all, lifeless hands, strange walking behavior, and the biggest offender, poor lip-syncing to the dialogue, it plain out doesn't look good. It fails to suspend disbelief and for a game based on so much dialogue is difficult to get past.

Aside from animations, graphically the game holds up no mind-blowing or spectacular, but by no means bad. The landscaping is nice and much of the game looks good enough to immerse yourself in, the problem here is the characters stick out rather badly. They are cartoonish, waxy, and in some cases downright inhumanly ugly. The aliens naturally look better, mostly because there isn't a frame of reference for exactly "how" they should look, the humans are simply ridiculous. Some of them look like they were taken strait out of The Old Republic and just had new textures slapped on them.

Gameplay is okay at points and boring at others. The combat is familiar and largely unchanged from ME3, aside from the addition of the jet pack. The Nomad is okay to drive for about 10 minutes but quickly starts feeling more like a family van on a road trip than an APC. The lack of weapons was a terrible mistake and after awhile just getting in and out to fight things becomes a chore. The original devs dumped it for a reason, it should have stayed in the garage. The mini-games/puzzles are horrendously boring/frustrating and mining for things, we'll I'm just not going to mine (really what was wrong with the orbital probe?) Missions are at best mildly entertaining and at worst mindless tedium, too much fetch filler and pointless dead-ends.

The story, at least to the 20ish hour mark is less than stellar. It takes a long time to get going and once it does, it feels more like the buildup to an aborted launch than an actual liftoff. It doesn't have the urgency or charm of the original series and it doesn't help that it is being played out by largely uninspired characters. The main antagonist seems more like a speed bump instead of that giant imposing stop sign that makes you take pause at what your are up against.

The developers it seems were out to make a game of a grand scope and scale and in doing so failed to see the little things that passed right by the wide angle lens they were using to see the game with. Mass Effect was never about having vast landscapes to explore or tons of mindless things to do. It was about the story and characters, and the interaction of those two that made Mass Effect special. By attempting to make such a grand scale game they lost sight of that and ended up with a grand mess. What would have been wrong with simply making a Mass Effect game? Why try to turn it into something it is not, something that other games do so much better? Hopefully with time they can iron out and fix much of this, it's just unfortunate that they chose to go down a path that attempts to make Mass Effect just another sandbox game instead of narrative masterpiece.

A new step into a new galaxy where you must discover everything on each planet, and this is just a small part of the game. The mood is the same of the first trilogy and some landscapes are astonishing. The plot is quite interesting but, as in the 1st chapter, side quests are the best part, especially playing the quest of your crew.

The one redeeming feature is the world art (not the level design); the art team have done a reasonably good job of making pretty vistas. Everything else, however, is extremely disappointing. It's very sad to see Bioware fall as far as it has. The signs of this company going in the wrong direction have been apparent since Dragon Age: Origins, but as a long time fan this is the nail in the coffin.

Either Bioware needs to seriously reconsider who it's employing and why, or they're heading the way of previous studios who have been consumed by Electronic Arts. Rest in peace, Bioware. Say 'Hi' to Bullfrog, Maxis, Westwood, Dreamworks Interactive, Phenomic, Blackbox and Pandemic for me.

Sadly, ME:A is objectively mediocre at best in those departments. The environmental graphics are stunning, but the characters look cartoony and out of place, especially with the terrible animations. The gameplay is decent, not perfect but not bad either. It feels a lot like ME1's gameplay but faster and more action-packed. Sadly the game has plenty of glitches and bugs, mostly of graphical nature but in general the game feels very rough around the edges. Performance-wise, the game is also rather poorly optimized. You need a beast of a machine to play this game on 'ultra' while honestly it doesn't look better than The Witcher 3 or Dragon Age: Inquisition (which both had much less extreme hardware requirements).

If we look at the open-world exploration aspect of ME:A, there's much left to be desired there too. The world look graphically stunning, but the things to do feel like busywork and things get pretty repetitive and can sometimes feel like a grind. This is especially obvious after having played The Legend of Zelda; Breath of the Wild, a game that really set a new standard for open-world games and really managed to make open-world exploration fun! ME:A just falls kinda short in that aspect compared to Zelda BoTW.

Then there's the writing, which is a bit more of a subjective thing (some people love BioWare's writing, others hate it), but even so, some of the dialogue feels objectively awkward and out of place, with sometimes rather questionable delivery. Several times I felt "wow, a real person would never say that" or "a real person would never say it that way". I have some objections with the main story too, but I won't be going into that here. I will say however that in my opinion ME:A has the worst main story in any Mass Effect game to date. The story feels like a rip-off from DA:I and not as well thought out.

Both the story and characters of ME:A do their jobs, but there is a lack of connection with the characters that was felt in earlier ME games. When tragedy hits, for example, our protagonist and others are able to deal with it without any real sense of emotion or anguish that would've been present in those circumstances.. The story, although engaging, doesn't capture the sense of awe that was present in the first game especially when it came to learning about the world, the clues, and uncovering a conspiracy. In short, the story does it's job, but there just isn't anything that is unique, inspiring, or thought provoking. Lastly, the facial and body animations of the characters are sometimes off to the point it's comical. Not the best for a 2017.. The fun part is that they're still overly aggresive and just keep walking towards you while insta-blasting your shields. As the AI of your allies is about as good as having a twig to back you up, you're mostly fighting alone. This meens you'll be seeing a lot of checkpoints.

Yes, checkpoints.... And they're at some unbelievable poor places. I can't count all the times I had to go over the same four or five minutes or walking/driving to get back to the point I was. When I got there I basically got shot down by an overwhelming amount of enemies yet again. This is just the most lazy kind of combat design I've seen in years. Add to that faults that should have not been close to a released game like enemies moving through objects (still being able to hit you, but not vice verse) and mistakes the average steam greenlight developer would even cringe at.

If you're thinking of buying this game for the gameplay: leave it.
If you're thinking of buying this game for the graphics: hahahahahahahaha, nope.
If you're thinking of buying this game for the story: look elsewhere.

It's a shame that the ME title got put onto this dirthole of a game.

But it would seem that the 'treatment' for the story, which had so much potential, lost its way in the details. After 50+ hours of play, it pains me to listen to dialogue that could have been written by and for a Jr. High drama production, to spend hours on fetch quests that have absolutely nothing to do with the overall plot, and. have no arc to what should have been an excellent story/adventure/experience.

Bioware dropped the ball, and it evades me now how they can possibly make up for it. As the folks here stated, the game will make money (at the very least its development and marketing budget, which is no small feat), but my faith in the shop overall to build a game that is based on intelligent, insightful story-telling is hopelessly lost. This was Bioware's relm, their key selling point for anything they brought to market. Now rebuilding that 'brand' has come into question.

Like many other things in these crazy, ridiculous times, we have lost something - another small piece of our lives that by itself is not critical, but when added up with the rest of the pieces that seem to be disappearing on a daily basis, makes our lives 'less'.

Of course we're not as close to the characters as we were in Mass Effect 3 - but we'll get there in the sequels. The graphics are amazing, the combat is miles ahead of the last game and the story is a very good start into this new adventure.

Without the bugs (which will be squashed by a few patches) this game easily is a 9/10 compared to most of the crap out there.

And the user score is a joke because of the troglodyte Trump-voters who give this a 0 because it features some strong female characters. Please go back to your mommy and tell her how evil all those "SJWs" have been to you. And just for that I'm going to add another point to my rating, just because of the strong female characters.

I am 20 hours in to this game, and I see people who I suspect have not played or made it out of the trial, rating this as a 0/10. This is not a perfect game but I am giving it a score of 10 to balance out the zeros. My score would likely be an 8.5 to 9.

Positives: Fantastic fast paced combat with awesome environments. The characters seem to gel, and the story is really a great new take on the Mass Effect lore. There is so much to discover here, with such a balanced and detailed experience. Good side quests are back as well. I could complain about lame fetch quests that appear, but every RPG has those, even the Witcher 3.

Negatives: I miss the power wheel, and I hate that the weapon wheel is mapped to the centre button on PS4. I also wish you could select the specific powers your squadmates use in combat, as of now, you can only direct them to specific locations, not their actions. The dialogue delivery from supporting characters is not as well done as the original trilogy and some characters have a dead stare in their eyes. Inquisition like conversation wheel is not as enjoyable as Paragon/Renegade, but this grows on you to be fair.

If you are an RPG fan, and especially a story driven third person combat fan, you should purchase this game. If you are a Mass Effect especially, I don't personally see how you could miss this title. If you have never played Mass Effect or are not a big fan of the above, you should wait for a sale, because you will likely not have the patience for any of the story development.

Just terrible, worst thing about this game for me is that I spent $70 for the deluxe edition... Bugs galore, ugly ugly disgusting looking characters, pushing some weird SJW agenda, terrible voice acting and snorefest story. The game play is nothing new and is reminiscent of ME1 but its okay passable, however ME is supposed to be character and story driven which is where this game failed.

The voice-acting is pretty mediocre, especially when compare to people that did tremendous job in previous ME games such as Michael Beattie, Keith David, Seth Green, Jennifer Hale, Brandon Keener, Martin Sheen and Mark Meer.
That being said, space exploration is pretty boring, the galaxy map is a chore to navigate and the glitches and bugs that are a NO-NO for a triple A studio.

The music is uninspiring, there's no Clint Mansell, Jack Wall or even Sam Hulick, it doesn't even come close to the previous Mass Effect. One of the things i mostly liked about Mass Effect was the music, and Andromeda fails terribly at accomplishing a decent soundtrack.

Then we have generic enemies, some harbinger pimp-like trying to run the galaxy as he sees fits, but it falls flat, because instead of being scary and creepy, it's hilariously ridiculous.
At least in the previous games there was a sense of urgency, an impending doom and constant threat of death... and don't even get me started on the ending, it makes ME3 ending looks like a masterful piece of art.

Then moving on to the next topic, we have this constant and cringe-worthy sense of humour between characters, the unnecessary jokes and useless dialogues that makes the game look like a sitcom. 0 drama or tension at all.

As for the Multiplayer, it's just useless, us true ME fans couldn't care less about the MP and i get the feeling they rushed the single player campaign just to focus on the MP.

I'm truly disappointed and i'm glad i decided to step back in my pre-order and cancel it on time.
The SJW pandering and the liberal agenda is also one of the biggest problems this game has, it has been taken over by people that shoehorned personal views and political ideologies in game.

All in all, a forgettable experience and wouldn't recommend it unless it's $15 or $20 at best. Don't fall for the hype, this will never be a Mass Effect game.

It's frustrating, i wanted this game to be good, i've waited 5 years and this is what we get. I'm sad disappointed and angry at the same time.

I *wanted* to like this game. I was hoping for hundreds of hours of fun. But OMG the writing and the plot. So bad. Like the worst original Star Trek episode bad. Just cliche after cliche. You're on the SS Nepotism, a ship run by your dad, with you and your sibling on the ship. When it becomes clear that in the 27th century, humanity has forgotten how to carry spare gas masks down to hostile planets, Daddy McHeroMan sacrifices himself to save you. And promotes you to new McHeroLeader. Everyone is happy that you run the show now, because reasons. And the ship's AI has taken root in your head. Somehow. For reasons. I wish I was making this up.

I'm just sitting there thinking "I paid $70 for this?" It's just ...bad. Bland boring cliches said by cardboard characters stuck in ridiculous situations. I give this a 3 because the combat didn't suck and the planet was pretty. Wait until it becomes free on Origin, don't blow money on this pile of AAA mediocrity.

It doesn't matter how much I play, I don't feel like any choices make a difference to the story line. This game should not be receiving the negativity it is getting whatsoever. One of the main complaints are character creation; is it limited? Yes,..but so were all other Mass Effect games before this one. All prior titles were extremely slim for your personal avatar creation... the amount of "Special Snowflakeness", for a lack of a better term, nowadays makes me shudder... "I can't make my character look like the WAY I WANT".. so what? Technically you are 'Ryder" and before, you were "Shepard" with an added first name of yours. In all seriousness, they should have just ditched the character creator and made people play the protagonist - unchanged.

Mind you, I am playing on a i7 w/ GTX 1080 system on PC, and I have not experienced any texture, object, or NPC popping in. Are the facial animations a little weird sometimes? Sure. But again, were they great, perfect and wonderful in the MEs before? NOPE! In fact, old ME had some extremely odd facial animations, without much emotion to it, so I don't know were people take the sentiment from that the newer facial animations, and lip-sync look worse than the previous titles.

Is the story a little flat? Sure, but it is by no means terrible as people seem to make it. Obviously it is a re-hash of everything that has been there before, and done before. Don't expect to be blown away here. But, the story is still very entertaining, especially if you take your time with it. It seems that people nowadays don't want to take things slow, and just rush-rush-rush through their games. Side-quests, logs, books, audio-journals etc... you should take your time to read, and listen. They all contribute to build this new world that is remarkably different from other ME games before.

I really enjoy the new setting & approach to combat-gameplay. If you played Dragon Age-Inquisition you can draw a lot of parallels here. Base building, scouting, resource gathering etc, sending strike-teams on missions, scan, survey and more. The worlds, environments and character models (main characters) created for this game are beautiful. Let's not forget that you have a completely different job here, .. no longer are you a N7 spectre special operative, but a pathfinder. You are an explorer. And on that note the game does everything right in my opinion.

Take the game for what it is. Try not to compare it to the older titles too much, because it IS majorly different and enjoy it for that!

Oh, and one last thing. It cracks me up how many people are complaining about the writing of the game, when they have no idea what actually goes into the scripting and story-composition to begin with. Similar to people who complain about a Movie's cinematography..., and know absolutely nothing about it... (Just a personally ticks me off)

    - angara seem trivial as well;

    - non-main missions and quest lines are soo exciting! Haven't got all that tedious colonisation stuff as expected!;
    - loyalty missions are AWESOME! 11/10 And there's not only one quest for each companion!;

    - beautiful landscapes, beautiful design;

    - jetpack is just PERFECT;

Anyway, Mass effect Andromeda is a terrible game, it's animations are amateur, the writing is bad, the characters are not developed and are not memorable. This game has a leftist SJW political agenda. People only need to Google "Mass Effect amdromeda lead programmer". Bioware has an agenda Google that too.

Of course, there are pluses. The fighting became interesting. But this is the only plus. But this advantage does not interest me.

I expected a new story with great emotions. And what did I get? Forgery.

The combat system is top notch, the skill system is better than any previous game (you aren't locked down to one style for the entire game, but can rather fluidly switch back and forth), the graphics (aside from some animations, which I will comment on) are beautiful, and the story actually benefits from the lack of railroading of the previous games.

You actually feel like your trying to colonize new worlds. The exploration is rewarded and doesn't remove you from the experience like it did in the previous games (there's never a justifiable reason to go mining when the Reapers are destroying worlds). The character interactions are real, not always polished, but neither is life. There's more humor, more awkwardness, more stuttering, and less incessant heroism, but that all goes together to make a more meaningful galaxy.

There are 4 different difficulties to suit your style. There is a multiplayer that follows closely on Mass Effect 3. There is a condensed ship with no loading screens between levels. There is a great deal of quality of life improvements from start to finish.

The only down side (and I struggle to call it that, because I didn't even notice until it was brought up by others) is the animations of some human characters and the apparent lack of diversity in the character customization. Since I use the default on Mass Effect games, I haven't realized the latter claim (which is true, there's not enough options in customizing your own Ryder), but the animations aren't gripping and terrible. In fact, unless that's your number one focus in a game (and for some it is), you'll probably barely notice. I don't.

Mass Effect: Inquisition.

First off I am a MASSIVE fan of Mass Effect. I can tell you everything you could want to know about C-SEC, Bartarians, and Krogan Culture. After playing a lot of Mass Effect Andromeda I can safely judge the game. Although I did enjoy the combat, the story, and loot system, and many of the missions- there are flaws I should point out.

    The good
    - Story is decent
    - Characters could be A LOT worse
    - Combat is AWESOME, by the far the best in the series
    - Open worlds look great and are a lot of fun to play around in
    - The game sometime shows great mass effect moments
    - Loving the loot system

    The bad
    - The series lore has greatly suffered
    - Characters are far cry from the original games
    - Antagonist sucks
    - Open world design kills any chance of a really strong story
    - So many bugs and glitches

    1. The lore: I love the lore of Mass Effect- it is what made the original games so special. The multiple species and cultures, the myriad of political issues- and how you fit in to it all really sold the experience. ME.A lacks that great lore present in the older games. Much of the lore is just thrown out! For instance- the first Korgan you meet (the highest ranking Krogan on the "nexus") is female. Anyone who knows about the Krogan knows that they are way overprotective of their woman and thus you only ever see one, it's their culture. And that is thrown to the wind here. That's not the worst though, The worst part is everything is gone- no more hanar, quarians, geth, drell or otherwise. Instead we get the 3 council races, humans, krogans, and 2 boring new species. So while all the "important" species are there all the little extra lore bit are just gone forever. This all leads to the game feeling less grand and expansive than it should.

    2. The animations- I think they are actually worse than in ME.3 and that's saying something.

    3. Glitches and bugs- the world is half baked at best. I've never seen such an unfinished game.

    4. The story- Although I like the story it is still a pale comparison to the originals. The originals were often not open world at all or only had some slight open world features. This allowed Bioware to focus on writing and story and it paid off for them. In the orig games you got tight, exciting, and well crafted missions- Here you get the classic main story wall of "I don't trust you until you do 5 fetch quests" and then you get a a good well crafted mission. Even though the open world is great to look at and fun to play in- it all comes at the cost of a strong story. Personally I would rather have a great story than big open worlds.

5: Characters: None of the characters are bad, but none are great either. There is no Garrus, Tali, or Wrex level characters here. Everyone is passable and somewhat interesting- but they lack originality and diversity. Don't get me wrong they have TONS physical and sexual diversity (I get it Bioware) but no diversity in personality types.

    6. The setting: I think Andromeda could have been a great setting but they don't use it at all so it isn't. They added and ENTIRE galaxy to the lore but only add 2 species? No political drama, no crazy new tech, no great new lore, or big huge choices- nope just 1 bad guy species and 1 good guy species and the two are at war and that is it. I would have rather seen them stay in the milky way and continue to story past 3, or even do a prequel. At least with the milky way we get the established lore we all love.

Conclusion: It is clear what bioware did here. They focused their efforts on a big and breathe taking open world, and great combat at the expense of story telling, good mission design, and great lore. Mass Effect never had the best combat or great big open worlds- it had a great story, great characters, and awesome lore. Bioware has taken what was once weak and risen it up to greatness while letting what was already great wither and die. I hope this isn't the end for Mass Effect but I am guessing it will be. A sad day for gaming

Wanted so bad to like this one, but ultimately it fell flat. It never was going to live up to the trilogy, but as an RPG it couldn't hold its own. Bad cc, combat watered down with loss of squad tactics, awful animations and technical performance, backward writing and interactions, etc.

For whatever reason, people are treating this game as it is a part of the original trilogy. It's not. Get over it. This game is, on its own, truly great. There are some problems with animations, but the actual game is wonderful. I'm also happy that enemies actually have health now, as opposed to every headshot knocking them off the Earth.

First of all, I have to say that the artists did a good job with this game. Music and art are synchronous with Mass Effect.

Everything else related to gameplay, and cinematography though? Very poorly executed. There are a lot of bugs and technical issues. The dialogue wheels literally are "split second" choices, not even enough time to read what you are about to say. This feels like

This feels like a game that shipped far too early. EA in its corporate greed and "infinite wisdom
thought it would be better for their reputation to ship an unfinished game.

It hurts me that they use the mass effect name-my favorite video game trilogy ever-for this game.It is mediocre at best. The official reviews are quite forgiving and if it wasn't called mass effect the scores would be even lower.

So what's wrong with the game?It has lots of problems, but the most important is that It lacks soul and it lacks love. The things that the trilogy had and dragon origins had, while inquisition and Adromeda don't have.It feels like the games development was just a job that had to be done.

Bioware is done. It's another company now, it's just the name that's the same. The same thing applies to this game compared to the trilogy.Sad but true.

What is very good imo is that 2017 had the best start as far as gaming is conserned since many a year.Persona 5,Nioh, Nier Automata, Horizon dawn, Breath of the wild..These are rare gems. Very very strong opening for 2017, hope that this continuous, the industry was plugged by playing safe, take no risks ,no innovation,no love games like Andromeda.

Whatever great games are released though, mass effect will always remain the series that a developed the strongest emotional attachment to.

Mind you, I've played through Insanity on ME3 multiple times- at least ME3 gave you a way to fight back and to be tactical about the game, but this was just a miserable, half-baked experience. Combat has turned into "pray your squadmates will use their ability at the right time" instead of "pick a squad that shores up the weakness of your character and manage their cooldowns correctly." I'm actually impressed at how well Bioware managed to destroy that. The animation bugs only added to my sense of dread as I fired up the game, and the fact that the pupils of the characters are so **** massive only creeped me out the longer I played up until I uninstalled and asked for my refund. Like, how did those massive eye voids even make it past Q&A? How did the game make it past Q&A? Did Bioware employ no **** playtesters or something? This is such a huge disappointment if the game can't even hook Mass Effect veterans despite it being the "next generation of Mass Effect games." I hope my refund gets through, my sixty dollars has so many better places to go towards. Expand

This game is just such a disappointment. I'd have given this game a 4/10 if it weren't for my shattered expectations, but we're talking about a AAA developer here building on one of the most popular RPG series ever.

All they had to do was release a slightly-above-average installment and most fan(boy)s would have been satisfied, but they failed to do even that.

    Haters gonna hate.

The game isn't perfect, it's not Mass Effect 3, but the people here saying it's equivalent to No Mans Sky have no idea what they're talking about. I don't have the time for a full review, but after ~20 hours I find the quests fun, the characters fairly believable, and the overall vibe to be my kind of optimistic sci fi fare. The Tempest (the ship) is just as

The Tempest (the ship) is just as capable as the Normandy, and while your crew isn't quite as memorable as the ME3 crew, they're still pretty dang fun to hang around.

Bioware would be well advised to hire talented and experienced writers and video game voice actors in the future (their absence is felt here), but giving this game a 4 is not realistic, even if it's not as good as The Witcher 3 or even Mass Effect 3 by comparison.

Overall, this game is worth playing.

    And now the negatives:
-The animations are a little more work.
    - It was hurriedly released this month, could have been better.

Conclusion: It's a very good game mechanically, if it gives you a bit like the animations then you patch it.

Above all else i just find Andromeda disappointing, i loved the original mass effect trilogy and really wanted Andromeda to be good but after 15 + hours of trying i just can't play anymore.

Also the critic score average being so much higher than the user score average is something of a red flag.

Plot is finding a new home for humanity but there is a hostile new alien race that play as the villains. Thats pretty much it, no plot twists just forgettable moments till the credits roll.

As I explore, I encountered the same building/structure as I previous did somewhere else in the map. The filler, fetch quests make a return from DAI but not as much as Inquisition however they are present in no small amount.
Romance is just like Inquisition, squad mates are romancable and to my knowledge all 'romance' scenes feature the iconic, lazy fade-to-black transition expect for Cora and PB. Flings are just pointless flirt options that leads to nothing.
I'm not even going to mention the infamous animation problem but I will say its very disappointing that a AAA studio with a large budget and 5-8 years of development time could not address this obvious flaw.

It feels like the C team made it, quick tip Bioware don't give a bunch of new hires one of the most iconic franchises in the industry because they will put out a sub-par product. Mechanics are terrible the animation is laughable it crashes all the time and the story is piss poor. only thing I enjoyed about it are some of the new characters and maybe 3-4 of the choices throughout the story.

I'm not going to go too in depth because i don't want to spoil anything accidentally but the gist of it is, your crew is completely lame, Ryder, whether you play as female or male is completely unlikable, the writing is lousy, your crew is constantly doing stupid things and they constantly act, well, strange, it feels like all these characters came out of a Michael Bay Transformers movie.I'm not going to go too in depth because i don't want to spoil anything accidentally but the gist of it is, your crew is completely lame, Ryder, whether you play as female or male is completely unlikable, the writing is lousy, your crew is constantly doing stupid things and they constantly act, well, strange, it feels like all these characters came out of a Michael Bay Transformers movie. The story is uninspiring but not terrible, i mean it's not great either, nothing complicated but some parts have you questioning the plot. Voice acting is all over the place, i don't know what the hell was going on but sometimes this game feels like it was built by multiple studios instead of just one. I'm now going to mention the animations, as far as facial animations go it's horrible, mindbogglingly so, what happened Bioware? Other animations like combat and movement are not bad, they are what you'd expect from AAA game, maybe just a bit worse as far as running animations go but it's really minor. RPG elements are watered down but at the same time an improvement in some ways over the previous games. I'm getting kind of bored of typing this, i should finish soon. Graphics are nice, they aren't pushing the boundaries so to speak but that's okay, they don't have to, there are some very nice sights in the game, not many but some of them are really, really pretty, the art teams did very well but unfortunately there's just not enough of that. Combat is okay, it's pretty good really, if you like third person action games then this will feel just right, not groundbreaking in any way but it's damn solid, gunplay is **** but it doesn't matter, you're going to use biotics and your melee attacks because it's more fun anyway. I think i'll stop here, the game a lot of "meh" and a lot of "wtf is this", unless you really love running around different worlds and third person action "RPG" games a lot, like A LOT then don't bother with this one. **** forgot to add, the dialogue options are all **** Expand

Boring and half-baked. For an RPG, the character creation is limited and the so-called "choices" seem meaningless. Why even have a dialogue wheel? And I'm tempted to skip the cut-scenes, the writing is so bad and the characters, themselves, are so dull. Some of the scenery is pretty, but overall the game just feels sterile.

It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.

While it’s underwhelming in places, there’s a lot to like as you venture into the weirder parts of Andromeda. Frequent technical issues hamper the experience a bit, as does an uninspiring main story. [June 2017, p66]
