There are only two things I can say:

    1) Do you want to play an actual RPG, with an engaging storyline? Take the Witcher 3. 2)Do you want to play an open world game with different things to do in it? Take GTA 5. So far, ME:A shows very little innovation in it's actual gameplay. It is the same schtick again: Go explore and then go full shooting gallery with a cover based system. Oh

So far, ME:A shows very little innovation in it's actual gameplay. It is the same schtick again: Go explore and then go full shooting gallery with a cover based system. Oh okay, now you can also slide/rocket jump into and out of cover, but essentially it is the same. The gun is still the meat and bones of this title and with a budget of 40.000.000 dollars this shouldn't be the case. Another bugbear of this is the ever slow retardation of the dialogue system. There's the wheel, which now uses even less words and instead uses little symbols and keywords.

Welcome to (BIOWARE) RPGS in 2017.

It's pretty solid third-person corridor shooting. The cover shooting works surprisingly well, and doesn't constantly trip you up the way it does in most games like this. That said, it's ultimately just alright. If you liked the shooting and upgrade system in the original Mass Effect, you'll like this, because it's a more polished version. But it doesn't raise the game up on its own, nor does it make up for other flaws.

If you're not sure whether or not to buy this game, don't use the combat and character upgrade system as the deciding vote. It's good enough to keep you interested, but if you don't like the surrounding elements, it isn't enough.

It’s hard not to be emotional about Mass Effect: Andromeda. You can see this from the huge number of negative user reviews. Although Mass Effect 2 did not live up to the sci fi chops of Mass Effect 1, and Mass Effect 3 did not live up to the intensely personal and emotionally engaging Mass Effect 2, the original trilogy remains a landmark Bioware effort. Expectations were high.

The 0-10 scale is obviously flawed. But I cannot bring myself to review this game anything lower than a 6. It has its problems, but within the American grading system, 0-5 signifies a failing (non)effort. Despite some noticeable bugs, I did not encounter any game-breaking ones (your mileage may vary). ME: A was rushed, but it is not a literally broken game.

This is not high praise. In fact, ME: A is a bad game, and if you value your time, you should not play it. When I play an RPG, first and foremost I expect some engagement with the story and the characters. An RPG is not only about its systems; its about role-playing within the given constraints of the game. And I cannot role-play with ME: A’s clichéd, uninteresting plot and terrible, forgettable cast. Even if you look over the problems with animation (it’s truly horrible, watch on Youtube for entertainment) and voice-work (the talent were phoning it in); the writing itself is untenable. There is no forward momentum. The gameplay systems function in a workmanship manner independent of context: combat is fine, the quest system sets up an addictive gameplay loop. But there is no soul to the game that makes you want to engage with these systems. And that is ME: A’s major sin.

Some things worth noting:

-- Abosolute AMATEUR character animations, faces look flat and dull, often conveying the wrong emotion for the conversation occurring, weird walks, runs, and movement in general.
-- Fanfic tier dialogue. Bad. Just... How can I even get this across? It plays out like some 13 year old's fantasy.
-- Glitches. A lot of them. Characters flash in and out of frame, objectives will never resolve, and plenty of movement related bugs.
-- The new aliens are just.. Boring and uninspired. Absolutely no sense of wonder and discovery with them, and the alien races brought with you are just rehashed stereotypes of whats already been established in the previous games.

Bioware brought this flop on its self, and the consequences from it will be well deserved. Don't bother getting this unless you find it in a discount bin, and want a good laugh.

    This deserves no Mass Affection.

    I keep it short:

ME1, ME2, ME3 are about story, characters, species and relations between the latter two.

ME Andromeda tries to be the same, but it also includes new gameplay layers due to its focus on an outdated openworld concept. The result: It fails at both ME's core elements (see above) and at being a great openworld game.

Even if you don't look at this game as a Mass Effect title it still sucks. So let's get too the negatives

-Bad writing: Unlike the trilogy (which had some bad moments but it never was all the time) this game has terrible writing, Some of the dialogue in this game will make you cringe on how bad it is.

-Glitchy: This game isnt as glitchy as say Sonic 06 but this game really is filled with quite a few

-Terrible story and choices: Mass Effect is widely regarded for your choices and the story, that's what made the games so memorable and high replay value, However this game abandons all of that for a combat focused approach and also doesn't even try to excite you or build up the story.

-AI: Earlier i mentioned the combat was alright, well here's the thing that ruins that, the AI is retarded and also glitchy so it ends up ruining the combat because some enemy is being weird.

-UI: Oh yeah quick note, this game has a terrible UI system and it bothers the combat.

-Length: The game's main story took a new Mass Effect fan 15 hours to complete, Let me explain this to you, Resident Evil 7 a game that is a metroidvania and also not open world took people 12-15 hours and even that game had good pacing up until the end, So yeah that's sad. Now if you're looking to do side missions sadly none are really good and there's not that many as the original trilogy because the development team tried quality over quantity but failed at that and screwed up at both so you're probably gonna get bored trying to 100% this game, And lastly as ill mention with story this game doesn't have a high replay value (maybe twice) so unfortunately you're not in for the many wonderful hours like the original trilogy offered.

-No memorable characters: If you take this game serious (and are not making memes of it) there really isnt any memorable characters.

-Face Animations: Yes the biggest complaint we've all heard, Honest to god it feels like Bioware hasn't even seen normal conversations because they feel so weird and awkward. I mean even Mass Effect 1 which came out 10 years ago had better animations.

So there's many things i missed however these were the majors flaws because i couldn't fit all the minors ones really, If you're getting this game you better get it really cheap because honestly it's not even worth it. The only good thing i could see to come out of this game is multiplayer but with the path it is on right now i doubt that will be anything, And to end this review even if Bioware and EA managed to fix the glitches, animations, and AI this game would still not be worth it because of the fact we live in a world that has games like Breath Of The Wild and the Witcher 3 which have set the bar high, and if Bioware isnt willing to step up their game they should just drop the IP.

Much has been made about the game's weak voice acting (which is true) and the bizarre, awful facial animations and general character portrayals (which is also true), but as much as I wanted to really get into ME:A, the technical problems this game has right now are just making it a hot f-in mess, and I'm just being brutally honest. The texture problems, characters morphing in and out of scenery, team mates getting stuck, important dialog that doesn't trigger until 1-2 minutes AFTER the important thing happened you needed the dialog for, and your character randomly freezing in mid-action are just a handful of what is wrong with this game. With a patch or two, ME:A could be a generally solid sci-adventure. But, man..I am sincerely disappointed. This goes beyond just the aesthetic problems; personally I can live with the weirdly bad animations and such...but the game has to be PLAYABLE and the second time I got killed because I literally lost control of my character while the game merrily kept going I just really had to be intellectually honest: this game not only needed more time in the oven, but was released in an inexcusable state. Saying that this is the worst Mass Effect in the series is easy, it really is, but the others were so good that it doesn't mean much. Sadly it is the worst Action RPG Bioware has done imo, and one of the worst released in years.

Mass Effect's success relied heavily on it narrative, well crafted characters and its dialogues. The games, like most Bioware games in the past, were so good that a direct adaptation into a movie would have been great. It was also one of the best action rpg in terms of gameplay, which is also extraordinarily important, because otherwise, it might as well just be a movie. On this aspect, this game is great and easily a match for all the previous games.

Sadly, the combat is the only good thing to return in this release, every other aspect of the game that made it the success that it was, acting, story, dialogues and characters, are not only gone, but some of the worst of the last two generations of console gaming.

I wouldn't give this game a zero simply because they got the combat part right, and whoever was in charge of that deserves a pat on the back. Every other departments, especially the animation team, deserves their 4%. The facial animations are so horrible that, even if the writing was top notch, it would still fail at engaging any kind of interest or emotions from the gamers part, other than laughter.

Once in a while you purchase a game so bad that you genuinely feel robed, this is one of those for me. Bioware, like Ubisoft, are now on my "never pre-order" list, quality just isn't there anymore.

But much of the criticism is so much over the top, so hysterical and one-sided, that the people need to ask themselves, if it´s just the evil. evil Bioware who does all the mistakes. But no ... that won´t happen. Couse the people are always right, aren´t they. Expand

The game has fun combat, interesting premise and some very good level design(especially when compared to previous mass effect games). At the beginning the story(ala the trial time) is very predictable and slow however I have noticed a significant improvement as I play more and this game feels very much like a Mass Effect game with better combat than its predecessors.

It does lose a couple points for the animations but this is a minor detail that doesn't detract from the game's overall enjoyment.

The multiplayer is/was fun sure, but the single-player is FAR more like dragon age inq in the terms of open world and story, and that kind of story telling is fine, but having to gather 5k resources ON FOOT is not my thing and then having a finite amount of them so you can't craft all the things or experiment without TONS of farming. I did not get through the 2nd mission at nearly 7 hoursThe multiplayer is/was fun sure, but the single-player is FAR more like dragon age inq in the terms of open world and story, and that kind of story telling is fine, but having to gather 5k resources ON FOOT is not my thing and then having a finite amount of them so you can't craft all the things or experiment without TONS of farming. I did not get through the 2nd mission at nearly 7 hours into the story!

That is what made me quit playing the dragon age INQ, it just kept GOING with VERY little story progression, and if you did a side mission/quest it would rope you into side dungeons/events you COULD NOT LEAVE without spending another hour or something in them. Sure ME1-2-3 did that kind of thing, but it was FAR more linear with FAR more choices and impacts while this style of open world only results in a FEW choices mattering and any of those choices only effect what a few chars say to you not their entire character. IE in ME1-2-3 and dragon age 1-2 you could make someone hate you or disrespect them and it would effect their combat skills or unlock/lock skills, in this, just, nothing, they change a few key words of dialog.

They also severally limited gameplay in terms of combat this time. No letting you use health-kits like in ME1-2-3, having to find ammo from crates in preset spots with only 4 ammo reloads, each gun takes up a refill so if you restock 2 guns with ammo 2 of the 4 refills are used, instead of dropped ammo from enemies.

Limited use of abilities by saying it uses a power cell, weapons start out SUPER weak unless you have difficulty set down, you can't rez a teammate from a distance because you have to run up to them out of cover and hold to rez, your limited to ONLY 3 ABILITIES unless you hot-swap to another PRESET set of abilities which then sets those new abilities on a COOL-DOWN when swapped to even if your abilities were fully ready. IE see dropship dropping tons of grunts, swap to AOE power set as you enter combat, OOOPS to bad, you now have to wait 30-40 seconds to use your abilities now....

And don't get me started on the animations. I just replayed through the series and watched others stream it on twitch A LOT recently. The fact they could not import/adapt even just the facial motions etc from the first 3 games is VERY sad. I mean wasn't Dragon Age INQ using the same engine? Could they not use the same assets/code for facial animations? Those were at-least far better and it was in the same engine with likely only SOME code needing to be redone to get it to fit on the models right.

Overall I am giving it a lower score of 5 until the issues are fixed. As which point I will redo my review.

This is not Mass Effect game. This is not what the fans were waiting for, nor "just a good game for newcomers". Sure, you've killed Dragon Age, for two times ina row now, but good god, the latest ME game was already not very good, and then you're giving us this peace of space junk? Pffsht. Nope.

A faulty product where everything is half-baked, with the exception of normal and facial animations which are just in class of its own when it comes to utter failure. Not to mention Male Ryder only has 1 human female option, which is just dumb, SJW propaganda is strong with this one.

the combat in this game is addictive, and quite fun, the exploration is also enjoyable. the only way you could rate this game a 3.7 (or lower) is by completely ignoring all the good aspects, and solely focusing on the negative. is this game an 8/10? no. it has too many issues to get a high rating imo. is this game worth full price in its current state? probably not. but if a patch comes out fixing the issues that i previously mentioned, i might just change my opinion on that.

in conclusion, the game has serious issues that are hard to ignore but the gameplay itself is enjoyable, i would say maybe give it a chance once a few patches have been released.

(and if you were wondering yes you can definitely see that the people who made this game had a political agenda they wanted to push, but its really not as bad as some are making it out to be)

No Man's Sky constantly reminds you how meaningless you are, where this game constantly reminds you how important you are. One game is for nihilists and one game is for people with a messiah complex. Either way, both extremes are either the product of bad writing or sloppy design. Take your pick.
The gameplay is nothing you have not seen before in an open world game with RPG elements. You will spend your time completing an absurdly long checklist, which either involves going from point X to point Y or tracking down someone for a cringe-inducing conversation. Finally, the graphics aren't special. I would recommend you spend your time elsewhere.

After 40 hours of playing I only experienced two or three small missions which left me a bit bored, the rest of it was really good. It's a strong start for a new Mass Effect chapter. The only thing Bioware itself and also a lot of the fans need to realise is that the characters in Andromeda need time to develop over a few games just like a Garrus or a Tali had to.

The only thing I was missing was "more" aliens. I think Bioware should have introduced at least two or three more alien races in addition to those already present, especially because they cut out several of the old ones (which is fine to me, but of course I would love to see them return at a later point.)

The improved combat system is great. It feels much more dynamic and speedy and delivers direct control.

Every Mass Effect and sci-fi-rpg fan should give this game a chance. It definitely deservers it and while it may not live up to all of it expectations, it delivers on most of them.

And another note: Just imagine if players back in 2007 would have weighed in the technical issues of the first Mass Effect game (which were never solved) it also wouldn't have come out with a score as high as it did.

I'm grateful for Andromeda, because it is a good start for a new Mass Effect chapter without Shepard while still giving me a lot of easter eggs to think back fondly on the "old journey".

Mass Effect Andromeda is not at all a bad game or in my experience, as broken as some would leave you to believe. Animations are bad, I have had a few “backwards gun” instances, and some dialogue issues but these are all things relatively easy to fix via patch. It will really depend on the player and what he or she can tolerate and what they can’t. The one thing that can’t be fixed would be it’s writing. Mass Effect Andromeda puts you in a new galaxy with new planets, but fails to match the wonder and excitement of discovery by making characters say the WORST possible things at the WORST possible times. This is a very effective way of taking the player out of the “moment” only to realize they are playing a video game. Then there are the dialogue options. I get that the paragon and renegade system might be “too Shepard” but nevertheless that system added depth and weight to each choice as well as consequence. In MA: Andromeda you will usually have 3 or 4 options varying from rational, emotional, or sarcastic. The problem is you can pretty much choose whatever you want but everything still plays out the same. This seems like it will make the player not care at all about what they say, which is a HUGE part of the Mass Effect series, and in my opinion what made Mass Effect Mass Effect. On the other hand I think the combat will be what saves this game. It’s fun, fluid and with the large amount of biotics, combat can be tailored to any play style. Enemies are quite challenging. I, as well as other reviewers from what I have seen have died a few times just on the tutorial planet. When it comes down to it Mass Effect Andromeda is nowhere near the greatness of the original trilogy and can unfortunately will probably be compared to being the “Phantom Menace” of the Mass Effect saga. If you are a long time Mass Effect fan looking for a evolution of the Mass Effect series this is not where you want to look. However, if all you need is more Mass Effect, Mass Effect Andromeda will be totally adequate. Expand

Mass Effect Andromeda strives to go back to how the first game was, while keeping elements from the 3rd game. Exploration is functional and still more enjoyable than ME1's. The character animations are hit or miss, as well as the writing. But if any of you are remembering ME1-3's animations and writing to be amazing works or art, you need to go play them again. The new class system is a step up in freedom for the player, and the dialogue options are more varied and less cut and dry. Occasionally cheesy dialogue just adds to the fact that this is a mass effect game. It's always been somewhat cheesy. Anybody remember Shepard's best insult for a Hanar? Yeah. Multiplayer is a complete upgrade from the 3rd game outside of character selection which is organized from rarity rather than class. All in all the game isn't perfect, it has it's share of missteps. But it doesn't deserve a zero. It's not a bad game. You people are simply refusing to enjoy it for what it is. You're going into it with a bad attitude and in some cases don't go into it at all. --Nothing Memorable about the characters. ME1 and 2 did a better job at introducing several interesting characters. This however has characters that feel as though they trust you the moment you meet them you do not earn their trust.

--This game calls itself an RPG but it feels more like a shooter than an RPG. The skills no longer feel like something you learn as part of being immersed in the world and learning from the experiences of your adventure but rather something that feels like you omni-tool received a patch as a reward for killing enemies so it now has a new function after the update. You can basically look at it as an FPS shooters equivalence to a kill streak.

--Narrative choices in the wheel often only fall to two choices. The logical choice doesnt always sound logical its as though someone with little understanding of the rules of logic designed this. The emotional options give little to emotion. There was nothing inspiring when there was need for inspiration. At least with Dragonage there where moments of Hell Yeah. Like the Sword given to THE INQUISITOR, SKYHOLD, and THE PRAYER SONG after you wake up from defeat. Inquistion did a great job ant creating inspiration emotion grabbing moments. This however did none of that.

--SOUNDTRACK SOUNDTRACK SOUNDTRACK. Sound tracks like a good John Williams Star Wars, Zelda, or ME1,2,3 is important the right musical queues at the right moment can invoke emotion. It seems while the soundtrack was good it wasnt used correctly.

--Quest Design this game made side quests feel boring. The main game is Dragon Age Inquisitions minigames turned into a main quest. You go to each plant in which you have to change the atmosphere by going to each Pagoda/Tower solve a puzzle which lights a beam then go to the next site rinse wash repeat until it points you to the final location then your done. No creativity just the same old trudge. Witcher 3 set a standard each sidequest created its own story and the main quest where incredibly well thought out. Sorry Bioware but you cant get away with mediocrity.

--Character designs where piss poor it feels like every character had some type of skin and bone defect. Hell it feels like the reasons they left the milky way was because they where to ugly to look at so they where banished to the far corners of Andromeda.

--Besides the Writing, Game Design, and everything listed prior the character animations in this game felt like it was created by an intern in their first year of animation school. Sorry but a game that spends much of its time story telling through facial expressions and gestures cannot get away with this garbage.

Overall this is the biggest disappointment of the year so far. Dragon age Inquisition was good but lacking in comparison to the Original Biowares title. This Mass Effect is Bad and with little to none of the original developers, writers, and artists left at Bioware from its glory days this could spell trouble for them. The only real RPG I have left to look forward to it seems will be CD Projekt Red Cyberpower 2077

This is all completely destroyed when literally not one person in the game looks like the animators and programmers had time to finish them. On top of the facial animations which everyone's already torn to shreds, there's the writing and the voice acting. The writing in this game ranges from decent to laughable to absolutely horrific. Especially in the dialogue writing where people will just say the strangest things for no reason ("Sorry, my face is tired.. from everything."), or say the most cliché worn out stuff you'll ever hear. The voice acting ranges from quite good to awful. Most of the Tempest crew is alright (including the Ryder twins), but really pretty much everyone else is below all standards I could have in 2017 for a AAA game. Wow I did not expect the user score to be so low but i guess this was just that disappointing to some users.

Anyway after playing for several hours i feel that is time to give my own opinion. The new installment of the Mass Effect series is fun during combat and exploration but that is really all it has going for it. The combat flows well and the abilities you have are useful in each situation even though some are more limited than others, like combat abilities such as grenades and the flak cannon. The planets you visit are vast and full of sidequests, yet feel empty and lifeless most of the time.

Now to the cons of the game. The facial animations are so bad you can never tell how your human comrades feel unless they tell you. The frame rate drops in certain scenes making it look it is a stop motion film. The voice acting is horrendous as if the actors just wanted to say their parts then leave the studio with the check. Research and development is boring and unrewarding, it feels with its **** gear but hopefully I will find more ultra rare blueprints to create better gear for my character. Finally are the dialogue choices which dont feel like they make much of a difference in a conversation no matter how you reply.

I have sent strike teams out for missions and they seem to have trouble completing missions but hopefully they will gain experience and be able to succeed future missions. I have yet to do multiplayer but i hope it treats me better than the main story has.

Is it the worst game ever like other's have been treating it like? No, but it's no where as good as the original trilogy. It feels like Dragon Age: Inquisition with the Mass Effect skin, except more much more visceral and faster paced feel. It's entertaining and some times manages to capture the series highs, but it just can't help but be caught in the shadows of it's predecessors. Well i was so disappointed about this game, so i had to create an account here to just warn those guys who want to buy and play this "game". There is nothing familiar with mass effect universe except may be music. Animation in dialogues is disgusting, story line is so bad you don't wanna wait for the end. Garbage. Do not waste your money. Bioware is dead.

+ huge worlds with still for me a lot to explore
+ some characters are interesting BUT NOT ALL OF THEM
    + combat and weapons
    + aliens and boss battles
    + however i only played co-op a 1 hour , iI really liked it
    negative
    - lame characters and horrible face animations
    - bugs
    - sometimes repetive
    - animations take sometimes a dip
however i actually regret i bought this at full price ( but still will play it )
it doesn't deserve the hate, almost everyone giving it a 0 for technical issues while if you ignore it , it is a pretty good game ( now its just okay ) . Also the mass effect fanboys don't like that the game takes a new step and feels like a different game, they really can't handle it

A game created by EA and Bio ware with glitches, poor dialogue, poor graphic animations... beaten by a few poles making Witcher 3. First four hours are boring and it becomes apparent that missions are repetitive. Very reminiscent of Dragon Age 2 with its 12 areas and 4 different mission types. For an Indie game it would be passable with good combat. Everything else is sub par.

Folks on the internet like to be melodramatic when it comes to reviewing entertainment: "Absolute garbage," "RIP Bioware," "Worst possible game," etc. They choose not to view the game objectively and really dig into the meat of what the game offers. Rather, they prefer to destroy the game's rating by giving it zeroes across the board, which is just asinine.

    Sure, Mass Effect Andromeda

Sure, Mass Effect Andromeda is probably the weakest in terms of story when compared to the original trilogy. And the facial animations are definitely stiff and often humorous, but the rest of the game looks gorgeous. Texture pop-in and some framerate dips aside, the environments are great and I want to really dive in and explore.

That's the whole point of this game after all: exploration. The original trilogy is about saving the galaxy and building up your resources to combat the Reaper threat. This one is more about discovering new worlds and is generally more light in tone. It's almost like Star Trek in that way. You'll encounter enemies that want nothing more than to take you down giving you the opportunity to experience the game's terrific combat system, but the ultimate goal is to find a habitable world and discover what the universe has to offer. You're not a soldier; you're an explorer.

As for the characters, people compare them to the original trilogy, but they forget that we had 2 to 3 games to get to know those characters. Mass Effect 1 has also really showed its age, so if this is the start of a new series, then it's probably going to be this generation's Mass Effect 1.

So ultimately, I'm giving this game a 7.5, but rounding up since Metacritic doesn't have the option. It's a solid popcorn movie of a game, so don't go in expecting something mind-blowing like Witcher 3. I'm a gamer. I want fun gameplay and a good story is just icing on the cake. Andromeda would be a 9 for me if the story matched. At the end of the day, I don't come home after work to read Shakespeare with a controller.

    PROS:
    + Great combat
    + Great environments
    + Interesting characters
    + Decent voice acting

    CONS:
    - Weak story at times
    - Painful facial animations
    - Sporadic technical glitches

Now for starters let me talk about the writing its....alright sounds a bit like if you read any of the warhammer books cheesy at points but undeniably serious at others. i can forgive the writing mostly because i love jrpg games and a lot off those have some grade a cheesy dialogue. now to the animation, so far i am about 14 hours into the game and while i do see the problems most are technical and can be ironed out. while i cant really say i can forgive these issues at launch i will wait and see what bioware does about it. now onto the characters or should i say models themselves. most arnt bad i to would like to know what happened for real when the females got designd and if anything can be done about it (not unheard of for a developer to tweak model looks in a patch or dlc so hers hopeing). now when all of the hate campains are set aside and the problems are moved from the forefront what lies bare is a very fun game. yes the comparison to dragon age inquisition is a good one because they have some of the same qualities. Both are massive and full of distractions a lot of them are good, a few a bit boring. then there is the combat its fast fluid and sooooo much fun its kinda like vanquish if you have played it. combining gun play and kick ass abilities to just f up some grunts is a joy and i wont get tired of it and that's good for an enormous game like this. look the criticism is justified it needs more than a few patches but when the core game itself and it's concept are good and well executed then i have a lot of hope. While i do agree that Bioware really needed to cut ties with Manveer as soon as the first of his posts went up and i am curious about what they have to say on the topic he does not represent the whole team that worked on the game. as far as the thought about them purposouly making the female characters a bit less attractive to appeal to feminazis all i have to say on that matter is we don't know the whole story nor do we know about weather or not it was souly biowares decision or if pressure form somewhere else came into play. All in all jump of the bandwagon and give this game a good look. like the way people are now starting to take a second look at no mans sky after the developer put a lot of time into fixing there game i think bioware should get the same chance. They didn't release a bad game they released an ruff cut diamond that needs a few more polishing(patches and dlc) and it will shine just give it a chance and form your own opinion after playing. The Combat/gameplay. Well, what can I say, other than it's no longer a Mass Effect game, thanks to the combat. The same thing that happened with DAI. Gone is the tactical/RPG/SQUAD based combat. There is no pause any more. There is no tactically using the abilities of your squadmates. THE VERY THING THAT MADE MASS EFFECT DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER GENERIC 3rd Person shooter. Yeah, we've lost that. It's gone.

Speaking of that, I am not going into the multiplayer, because It's not something I'm interested in, nor I care about.

Also, the watering down of the "class" system, turning it into this "jack of all trades" skyrim type **** I will not go into details about my personal "hate" of these kinds of systems. The reason for this is the same as the reason we saw it in Skyrim - laziness. Because it takes all kinds of effort to balance different classes, and we know that with companies, "effort" means "costing more money".
    -
The infamous animations. I won't say much about them, because they've already turned the game into the biggest meme-generator of 2017.
    -
The writing. It's simply abysmal. It's very hard to get immersed in this supposedly story/character driven game, when the words that come out of everybody's "tired" faces are nonsensical and sometimes worse than fanfiction. What HAPPENED with the writing? Also, the whole setting/story is boring and uninspiring.
    -
The characters. Well, I'm not going to go into them much, because I know that this could also be considered a subjective thing. For me though, they are terrible. "Bethesda-facepalm" level terrible.
    - - -
The sound design, in particular some of the alien voices. It's like they didn't even try.
Also, the "music" some times was atrocious. Like in the Vortex. So generic and annoying.
    - - -
Bugs (some gamebreaking), glitches and overall lack of polish of nearly any aspect, which leads to the conclusion of a rushed product. A rushed 5-year-in-development product, if that is possible.
    - - -
And then we get to the character creator. A very huge thing in these kinds of games. So what's going on with it? Well, basically it has been completely butcherred, to the point that for the most part it's non-existent. It's more like character "selector".
    - - -
We are talking Ubisoft's The Division level of laziness here. You have 9 scanned heads for each gender, of wich you can pretty much change only the hair, make up (and the choices are ridiculous btw), and a very limited skin tone slider (more on that later). There is virtually NO customization of the faces. You know, one of THE BIGGEST things these games, creating your own avatar. People like me spend many hours in character creators, tweaking.

We all know that the CC in the previous games were never that great. But at least you could create unique and different faces. Changing different fetaures like eye shape, nose shape, mouth shape, brow shape and so on. In andromeda, you can't do that. Since the heads are scanned (although as a character artist myself, I can think of several ways to create the system in a way, that this would be non-issue). Which is simply sad. They didn't put any effort into this very essential aspect of the game.

To be honest, I did not expected this to happen. The last remaing RPG feature of this game, to simply be crapped on to such extend. It's honestly the deal breaker for me. Not to mention the fact that Bioware lied, when they said that they will not change the CC much from DAI. But I guess the only thing that they didn't change (or dumbed down), was the color wheel for some things like eye color and makeup.
    - - -
Now I'm not going much into the obvious "Political Correctness" and SJW agendas, splashed all over this game, one of which is the uglification of the females. I can get geeky and nit picky with this one till we all get "asari" in the face, but I won't. There is more about it around the web.

But the thing that goes too far, is the lack of white character presets for the females. Aside from most likely catering to regressive feminists like Sarkeesian, the fact there are purposefully no white presets is simply a disgrace.

Not because I'm offended personally or whatever **** the apologists will throw at me, but because when you do something like that, you are intentionally igniting/creating racial tension amongst the community. This to me is so wrong, so sick and twisted, that I have no words for it. This thing alone is enough of a reason to boycott the studio and the publisher. And when you see things like this happening, some people like Manveer Heir start to make a whole lot more sense.
    -
    CONCLUSION

As a game that carries the "Mass Effect" name (to sell itself), and all the expectations that comes with that, it's a 1.

An unfortunate addition to a once-great series. Rife with bugs that cause skips in quest scripting, thus requiring the abandonment of the quest altogether, poor voice acting, perhaps the worst examples of animation in the current generation, and watered down gameplay, Andromeda is better forgotten on by fans of the series and Bioware in general.

RIP this review because it’s objective and positive.

It took time for me to get into the swing of this game and ultimately classify it as a welcome and natural continuation of the Mass Effect series for a few reasons. The first reason: the character models are flat out ugly. They quite frankly feel unfinished. It feels like they used Dragon Age: Inquisition’s smooth and colorful models and tried to make them more realistic by adding extra texture and detail to the faces. Paired with the unnatural facial animations, and you are left with this strange midpoint between cartoony and realistic that is strange. When your character first jolts on screen, it is a bit shocking. You are then immediately greeted by more characters, and they look no better. I’ll have to look back, but I remember the models in even Mass Effects 3 looking better.

Adding to the rough start is the fact that it gets off to a very in my opinion rushed start. While I normally would praise a game for jumping right into the action and feel that more games should do it, Mass Effect is a series that values you taking your time. To boot, this game features a whole new story in a whole new galaxy with a whole new cast of characters. I would have preferred it if the game let you wake up, walk around a bit and learn who everyone was and heck, who YOU are. Instead, you wake up, you are engaged with dialogue, and suddenly, you are put to work. It’s one of the few times I was aching for MORE exposition. Between the rushed intro and the ugly characters, I wouldn’t blame most people from being turned off from the get go. It isn’t until you are off the opening location (an ark named Hyperion, one of several arks designed to aid the Andromeda Initiative) that you can breathe and experience what this game really offers the Mass Effect universe. And that “something” is great.

    Freedom.

I’ve often lamented the Mass Effect series for going in the wrong direction compared to where I thought it should go. I was disappointed that the games seemed to favor increased linearity over increased exploration, as I feel that a game that involves exploring space and building alliances lends itself to a more open world form of gameplay. Instead, Mass Effect 2 featured smaller explorable hubs, including the comparatively tiny Citadel. And then Mass Effect 3 increased the size of the Citadel while offering less compelling additional areas. Since then, open world games have become an increasingly sexy genre in the gaming world, and while this leads to a lot of games that are tiring because they are poorly done open worlds with nothing more than repetitive busy work to fill the map or worse, gigantic maps with nothing to do in them (No Man’s Sky), I always thought Mass Effect was a perfect candidate for a more open experience.

So when you arrive on your first mission you get a slice of the more open experience that will only become more open as the chains come off and you are left to your own devices.

Here is also when you will experience your first combat situations, and man. The combat is great. The combat seems to be a controversial subject to some people as the skill choices have become more streamlined and any limitations on weapon choice or play style based on class have been removed. The dirty word “casualization” will be thrown around plenty here, but more streamlined and enjoyable to play while still offering variety is not a bad thing. To boot skill selection is still up to the player and those choices will have a very material effect on how the game is played, making it no less of an RPG than previous iterations. Do you want to go all biotic to manipulate foes and hit them with devastating combinations? Do you want to go all tech? Do you want to go all pure combat? Do you want a combination? It’s up to you.

Further improving the combat is the movement, which was always an annoyance in the Mass Effect series. Before, Mass Effect was largely a pure cover shooter with an often-tricky camera and stoic movement. But now movement is a lot more flowing, making it much more fast-paced and fun. Cover now happens automatically when you move toward a wall with a weapon drawn and getting out of cover is as easy as just moving, making you feel much less stuck to walls. Dashing and the jetpack are great and make for a more quick and verticle experience.Maybe from the outside these changes seem radical, but when you play the game, the changes are nothing but a natural and welcome evolution to the Mass Effect formula.

After this tutorial mission the game begins to take shape. You now have an idea of who you are, what your mission is and your role in the game to come. You will soon be on your first proper planet complete with several side quests, ready to experience the truly great experience before you. If you try to get past the rocky start, you won’t regret it.

Also it runs really well on PC.

    8/10, very good

If you like to laugh about bugs you will love this garbage.
The emotional face animations let you laugh so hard that your character will fall through the ground.

I had been waiting 5 years for this. Return to ME universe and live as space hero once again, meeting interesting characters. enjoy good RPG features and experience great story.
None of this happened in Andromeda. This game is just laughing stock, everything is so terrible done...BioWare as we knew it, is dead.

Ah, how low have the great fallen. From Kotor, Baldur's gate, ME trilogy and Dragon age Origins, to this game, with a clear political agenda, at which expense the quality of the game itself has suffered.

I'll start with the positive points of this game. The return of Mako, or Nomad, as it is called in this game is great, as it brings old memories from ME1. Combat is well made in this

I'll start with the positive points of this game. The return of Mako, or Nomad, as it is called in this game is great, as it brings old memories from ME1. Combat is well made in this game, though the AI is not always capable. Graphics in this game are also good.

Now about the bad things in this game, which is overwhelming.

All around this game does not deserve the Mass effect name. The writing and the story are on the level of fan-fiction, which is awkward and cringeworthy at times. This is the worst thing, as the Mass effect franchise prides itself on the amazing writing level.
The lack of clear-cut classes limits re-playability of the game. The soundtracks are unimmersive and boring, when compared to the music in the original trilogy. The explorable planets are large, boring, where most of the activity is limited to grindy combat, just like in the Dragon age Inquisition. Facial animations are atrocious, and there are many bugs in this game. The villain in this game is boring, one-dimensional moustache-twirling Hollywood antagonist. All in all, it is a pity that Bioware has not learned from it's mistakes done in DA2, Inquisition and ME3.

    Resume:
Better than ME1 and ME3. Worst than ME2.
Not a single glitch found, amazing atmosphere, sound, climate. Each planet is unique! Nice graphics, more paced combat (which is very nice and fluid). Amazing cover system, really usefull.
Also, unique game in current gen. There is nothing like it on market.

Bioware have made a complete dud with this game. Yes it will appeal to your average Kotaku/Ploygon reading bleeding-heart liberal, but for the huge amount of us that don't fit into that category, it's a mess. Lets forget about the boring space-shooter gameplay, or the dull object scanning, or the awful "collect X amount of these things please Jeeves!" side-missions. Lets instead focus on what this game is all about... being a virtual romancing sim for nerds. Well, it can't even do this right. With animimations that look on par with a 10 year old game, childish dialogue (that's probably an insult to children) wasting the time and effort voice actors put in (I'd be pretty damn angry at Bioware for that)... you'd be forgiven for thinking this game was some elaborate hoax. No its just another lazy game from Bioware, another cut n' paste RPG churned out for the rabid "do no wrong" fanbase. The average reviews should tell you everything you need to know... this game, and indeed this company, are not worth your time or money. Expand

It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.

While it’s underwhelming in places, there’s a lot to like as you venture into the weirder parts of Andromeda. Frequent technical issues hamper the experience a bit, as does an uninspiring main story. [June 2017, p66]

A welcome, if slightly patch return for Mass Effect. The script has problems, but combat is bloody brilliant. [May 2017, p.62]
