Decent, if generic, sci-fi shooter wrapped in a creepy Mass Effect skin.

This is the game where EA decided to cash out on the Mass Effect brand by shoveling out the bare minimum they thought they could get away with. Mass Effect has unquestionably lost its standing as a top echelon franchise.

I will say that there isn't a threat nearly as ominous as the Reapers, so you don't get the constant sense of urgency you did in the Trilogy. Overall though I believe that it's a solid entry into the series. The people complaining about this game were probably just fans of the more action oriented gameplay of 2 and 3. For anyone who preferred the RPG elements of the first game, this is a must have. Expand

    Why? Seriously Why?
The Scenario is good, the game-play is ok...

But why all game design and animation is at this point outdated???

I loved mass effect series but... Why you make me hate this game Bioware...

Yes, the game is having it minuses, but is still the same ME game that I like.
It has some elements of DAI, but that is also not bad for the game and just adds some possibilities and not limitations.
But to start my NG+ I'd be waiting some major patches to be released

Graphics look last-gen. Animations are as bad as you have read all over the Internet; very immersion breaking. Missions are a bore. Almost 30 hours in, and may not complete the story because I'm getting so bored. I would stay away from this one folks.

I just completed this game yesterday and have been a die hard mass effect fan since Mass effect 2, and I have to say that people are really being too hard on this game. Sure the game has a little wonky animations here or there but I would say wonky animations took up 2 minutes out of my 50 hour play through. Sure the game has a little wonky animations here or there but I would say wonky animations took up 2 minutes out of my 50 hour play through. For the vast majority of the game it is completely UNNOTICEABLE, and there are A LOT of animation moments that really make the characters feel human, and I can't say I have ever felt that in a game before even the OT. Now I will admit a lot of these moments come well after 20 hours, but those moments are beautiful nonetheless. A lot of the critics have said that crew mates really make the game shine and I completely agree most definitely the best part of this game. I played a character that didn't take herself too seriously, and it felt like I was playing ME 3's Citadel DLC for a while. I would like to remind people that the writing in that DLC was pretty juvenile with hilariously stupid one liners and didnt really take itself all that seriously. This game has the exact same appeal, and left me with a lot of moments of where I had a good laugh. This game feels significantly less serious than the other games, and you really need to go into this game with a different mentality than you had for the OT, and just enjoy the ride. However, I do have some complaints scanning wasn't really annoying, but getting lost in vaults was. Many people were saying combat was amazing and personally I thought it was ok at best. For some reason guns don't feel like they had any weight behind them and I played a shot gun playthrough. Then there were some really BS quests that everyone should feel ok to ignore. But all in all, I really feel like the devs tried so hard to listen to many of the former games complaints, and make something they could be proud of. Exploration was fun and there was so many moments that left me like "Holy crap this game is gorgeous", also it was interesting how just about everyone had some kind of story going. The ending was badass; it left me smiling like an idiot, because it was pretty heartwarming. Then they created these awesome characters and beautiful worlds to frame it all. I was heartbroken when I saw the animation videos and original critic reviews and was really close to cancelling my pre-order. After beating it, I'm so happy I didn't cancel, because while I can't say that it's amazing, it has a lot of great elements to make it a good game. Expand

I love the Mass Effect series and had high hopes for this game, but ME: Andromeda is so buggy you would think it was developed by ants. I've experienced just about every type of bug I could think of, thankfully I was at least able to finish the game and my save file was okay. I can't believe a AAA game was released in this state. DA: inquisition wasn't shipped this way, not even close.

The strong point of the game is the combat, it's a lot more free flowing and fast paced the DA: Inquisition.. However, you do so much of it against the same handful of enemies it grows tedious over time and very easy. They needed a lot more enemy variety for a game this size.

The graphics are fair, many worlds are barren (that's conveniently part of the story), but other areas have nice lighting effects. Animations are very dated and bad, with very few in-engine cut scenes compared to prior games. The game runs like ass, even on my set up (gtx 970, 16 gb ram, core I5, Samsung solid state drive), using the "auto detect" settings and has TONS of hidden load screens. They took all the pleasure out of exploring the galaxy by having 5 loading screens between going from 1 colony planet to another. It's atrocious design and will bore you. But that's not the only thing that drags down the game...

The writing a big step down from the original trilogy. Ryder rarely has anything interesting to say in dialog wheels, but there are some moments here and there. I was disappointed I couldn't be as aggressive or persuasive in conversation as Shepard or other RPGs. Since dialog is mostly boring you will find yourself skipping it often (which is sad because this is my favorite thing in Bioware games). Also, there is A LOT more important information in the form of data pads/e-mails, ect. E.A./Bioware apparently wanted to save costs on voice acting, so much of the less generic info is in text, which is a shame.

Oh, and btw the way, the ending is every bit as bad as ME 3, if you didn't like it's ending (I did). There are many unresolved plot points and this is a stand-alone game according to Bioware (wtf are we getting DLC? none is announced), which is disappointing. There is some cool info revealed in the end though, so it's worth getting to the end for that if you feel like you want to quit midway into the game like I did.

There are some many pointless, repetitive side quests that I would recommend skipping. If you stick to the main quests you're going to have a much better time. Even then you can see they putt a lot of pointless backtracking and tons and tons of fighting the same easy enemies over and over to pad the game. You fight the 1 boss type there is in this games literally 5 different times. It's so lazy.

Character progression is okay. It's largely copy/pasted from Mass Effect 3, which is disappointing, but you can mix and match powers from combat, tech, and biotics which is cool (although it hurts the story somewhat imho, as powers aren't used in dialog options like other ME/Bioware games). It's mostly boring passive stat boosts to you powers. I like that picking a class gives unique perks now and that you can reset your powers anytime. Melee combat is actually viable this time so being a Vanguard works really well, expect against big enemies which will still 1 shot you if you get too close.

There's a weird garrison mission screen like in World of Warcraft called "strike teams". It's very lame, but thankfully you can skip it and not miss anything. The also have a system similar to the power system similar to DA: Inquisition, except it's not required to unlock new areas and is much less interesting as far as your choices are concerned.

I didn't try multiplayer as it does not interest me, so please keep that in mind. I heard it's decent.

All in all, I can only recommend this game to hardcore ME fans or people that love combat regardless of how repetitive it is and want to do multiplayer as well. The game is full of issues that won't be corrected by a patch or two. The game needed 6 months to a year more of development to iron out issues with numerous bugs as well as game design flaws, as the game doesn't seem to have made it out of late alpha before it was released.

Here's to hoping we get updates to fix this game in the future. With no mod support like Fallout 4 had, well, only Bioware can bail themselves out.

    1. Of course, facial animations. It's no joke facial animations look like lifeless plastic characters. Most of the time these characters look dead and lack any emotion in the game at all. Also, on some occasions not only do the faces look off but, the lip synching is bad as well on occasions. It can sometimes remind me of the terrifying GTA Online character lip-synching.
    2. The romance is broken...let me explain. In this game, the romance system is divided into heterosexual, which is the opposite sex and homosexual, which is of the same sex. I'm not kidding when I say that the difference of the two when romancing a character is disturbing. For instance, most of the heterosexual scenes feature characters stripping down naked and getting the best sex scenes. However, a HUGE (not all) part of the gay romances feature kissing a couple of times, and the screen fades to black, and that's it. When I saw this, I was extremely pissed off cause I thought Bioware was LGBTQ friendly and yet they pull a stunt like this and can't show scenes of the gay or lesbian scenes without it fading to black. It's like Bioware is incompetently lazy, or they were embarrassed to do it.
    3. The writing on the game is average. But, because these characters are so plasticky and lack any emotion at all, it makes the writing even worse. On some occasions when you're talking to characters and it's supposed to be a heartfelt moment, it breaks that immersion because you can't believe it because they don't look it.
    4. This is probably one of my most offensive things I do not like about Bioware at all, and that is hiring people who put their beliefs into a game. Bioware was recently accused of making bad facial animations on females so they can be de-sexualized. Due to this, many fans of series were outraged because while Bioware created a beautiful looking male Scott Ryder, and the female Sara Ryder took a hard blow. Not only does she not resemble her face mode Jayde Rossi, but it seems a ton more women in the game look positively revolting to watch. Putting your beliefs into a game is extremely dangerous because you will end up losing a ton of customers which is exactly what happened. Not only that but apparently Bioware hired a highly white-hating racist that makes white people know he hates them; and yet he/was a designer at Bioware. Which was probably the reason Bioware's facial animation was so bad.

Other than those issues I believe Mass Effect Andromeda is an enjoyable game once it starts going. I hope and pray that the BioWare team didn't blow the chance for a sequel and will learn from their mistakes when another Mass Effect game comes. I hope there is a direct sequel to these characters because these characters need to be redeemed from the unfortunate mess up from this game.

Andromeda reminds me a lot of the original Mass Effect. It is a solid game with great ideas and promise, but it comes up a little short on some fronts. The primary difference is that Mass Effect (1) introduced us to this whole new universe, and Andromeda is just a new galaxy within that universe.

Yes, facial animations aren't great but they don't ruin the game. Game-play is incredibly fun and the new jump boost takes it to a whole new level. My biotic can now get up close and personal and quickly boost away to get back to cover before getting destroyed. Multiplayer is still great (some issues linking to single player on occasion, but not too bad). The story is decent so far, but nothing groundbreaking. However, the focus that YOU are the alien is a feeling I enjoy very much. Planetary exploring is also very fun and satisfying. Some missions can be monotonous, but there are enough options that you can change things up pretty easily.

Overall, I give this game an 8. However, the level of enjoyment I receive while playing feels like a 10. Give this game an honest chance, and try not to dwell on the bad things you may have read. Having tunnel vision on one or two flaws can make you blind to the beauty around it.

Andromeda is not worthy of being called a Mass Effect game. It does the series a disservice by being just mediocre and 'just passable' in every single aspect. This game is not something one would expect from the pioneers and innovators of the cinematic storytelling genre who used to set the bar. It fails to live up to Bioware's previous releases, let alone surpass them.

-Story is weak and generic, with badly spaced, disjointed narrative. Big chunks of the Mass effect lore has been conveniently swept under the rug, and retcons are everywhere.

-Protagonist portrayal- they tried to borrow the 'personality' concept from Dragon Age 2 where your character could be diplomatic, agressive or sarcastic. Only this time around the character can be 'casual
, ' professional', 'logical' or ' emotional'. Big problem with that? They all amount to same thing, with a very slight variation. Your character won't tell anyone to 'shove off', even if the situation truly warrants it. He/She will put up with anyone's **** politely, no matter the personality path you choosing. There is no confrontational options, neither with npc, quest givers, or your companions.

-Characters (usually the studio's strength) are bland and uninspired. That they unloading their whole story upfront, instead of developing over time just highlights the problem. You don't get to learn anything nuanced about their character, there simply isn't anything they won't tell you the first couple times you talk to them.

-Combat is horrible: they went from real time with pause and full squad control to controlling your own character only with super minimal ability load out (3 abilities at a time with convoluted profile switching is a crime). Your squad are just bots who tag along and do their own thing.

-Exploration - the vistas are the only positive thing about this game. The quest that tied to the exploration however can be summed up by scan, scan, scan some more and fetch ad naseum. Oh, and repeat exactly same thing on the next planet. If you thought Dragon Age inquisition had it bad with filler quests, prepare for something even worse.

-Music score - minimalistic where present, absent in most of the scenes. A big let down compared to epic scores of their previous games.

-Graphics - planetary visuals are the only good thing about it. Character detailing suffered a MAJOR step back from ME2 and ME3. There is one SINGLE asari head that's shared across the whole asari population, same with Salarians. Turians look like someone forgot to give them facial texture, nevermind the colony markings. I guess the Krogan look the least offensive out of the bunch, and that's not saying much. They looked better in ME2 and 3, just as did all other alien species. Humans took a beating too, btw. It's not just the aliens.

Game Issues: Inability to save during priority missions. Horrendous animations. Gamebreaking bugs. Recycled alien life, bosses and puzzles from planet to planet. Characters referencing events that have not happened yet, often spoiling the story. Banter glitches where the whole party is silent for the duration of 2 planets and then exploding with banter only to go mute again the next planet around.

I do not recommend this game to anyone.

Also my female Ryder looks great at times and then its just awful. So far the story seems relatively interesting although its a bit too much "Kids with guns in space" and I feel the Kett offer nothing new so far. It has been said and critizised that all Asari and Salarian look the same - just another sign of the lackluster design Bioware has displayed all the way back to Dragon Age II (copy/paste Dungeon design). It made me feel like all my efforts were in vain. Not cool. I'm 20 hours in, I'm exploring like crazy and I know I barely scratched the surface (both figuratively and literally). Sure, the animations are sometimes cringy and we all know the "My face is tired" line, but what's with all the hate y'all? Female Ryder has great voice acting and I'm enjoying her goofiness, I chuckled more than once. Party banter - I would just want more of it!! Sure, not all the companions are equally interesting, but that was the case in the previous series as well. Do you guys remember Jacob from ME2? No? Barely? Thought so. You can't expect to care for new chars the same you cared for chars whose story arc extended over a whole trilogy. The story so far is top of the notch mysterious, I can't wait to know more about the remnants and their uber-tech.
Everyone's saying Witcher 3 blah blah, but it appears no one remembers that Witcher had its own fetch quests "Bring me some verbane" type. Game is good, characters are solid, I would give it a super deserved 9. But I'm giving 10 to help with the scores cause 4.6 is just not fair. Will come back to this after I've finished the whole game. Now go play and stop hating on something only cause you think it's cool to do so.

    This deserves no Mass Affection.

    I keep it short:

ME1, ME2, ME3 are about story, characters, species and relations between the latter two.

ME Andromeda tries to be the same, but it also includes new gameplay layers due to its focus on an outdated openworld concept. The result: It fails at both ME's core elements (see above) and at being a great openworld game.

    Sad, but true.

    Pros:
    - Combat is pretty fun, and so is jumping around with the jetpack. You can mix up your skills at will, and I am having lots of fun as a soldier/sniper with biotic support powers.

    - The Tempest crew is likeable and interacts really well. There's lots of banter to be had and it feels very organic. Vetra and Drack are awesome.

    - Kadara is by far the coolest planet with lots of ME2/Omega vibes.

    - It's nice that we have a vehicle again and the Nomad is pretty cool.

    - The Tempest is pretty cool. Might even surpass the Normandy, design-wise.

    Cons:
    - well, everyone has heard this already, but yeah the animations. Or just, the technical side in general. Some characters look fine and other seem like they're fresh out of 2007. Suvi looks especially terrible, it's like her hair is an orange jellyfish. Apart from main characters, faces don't look much better than the first ME. Sara Ryder looks ok but has a little smile on her face all the time, even 5 mins after somebody's death or while stuck in a trap and facing the villain.

    - Story so far is whatever. Started off well, but loses itself among the tons of filler content. No sense of urgency or drama, no emotional impact so far, very weak villain. Could become better but I doubt it.

    - TOO MUCH CONTENT. As expected, it has the 'Dragon Age Inquisition' problem of having gigantic areas with just so many side quests. At least it makes more sense this time, being the pathfinder and all, but I still cannot be bothered to pick up every tiny fetch quest. I don't understand why Bioware/EA suddenly wants open world, and I'd prefer they cut half of the content and focus on a good story.

    - it is not possible to be 'evil'. The best you can do is play Ryder as a bit cold and logical, but you are really limited. Want to try being a dick to the Angara, or taking resources by force to be a ruthless invader of Andromeda? Well too bad because you can't. Ryder never becomes 'your' character like Shepard did.

    - SAM will not shut the **** up. After he has told you for the 1000th time that a region can be mined, or you should use your scanner, or 'radiation increases - radiation at normal levels - radiation increases' while you drive, it gets SLIGHTLY annoying.

    - When you drive across a planet, there's random enemy spawns everywhere. The nomad has no weapons (seriously, why) so you either just blast past them while Ryder says 'we should check that out', or you get out, fight them, get back in every 2 minutes.

    - New alien races are disappointing. Angara are pretty lame, look weird and don't fit into the ME universe imo. Kett seem straight out of Dragon Age. Remnant have pretty cool vaults at least.

    - 'Interrupt' actions are a joke, I had 4 of them in 40 hours of game so far and 3 of them basically made no difference.

Mass Effect Andromeda will be seen as the master class in how to alienate your fan base.

I'll start with the fact that i quite liked the last three titles and really enjoyed the multiplayer in Mass Effect 3. None of them were without flaws but mostly enjoyable games. ME:A however has almost none of the charm, likability, or even respect for the player that the previous titles did.

    Performance:

This is probably the most talked about issue with the game so I'll deal with it first. It's a PROBLEM. The game suffers in many ways from technical glitches with animation, sound, quests, game crashes and more. It can look fairly decent at times but definitely not anything to be excited about. HDR implementation also seems to be a bit lacking but that's an emerging technology so i won't fault them for that. Frame rates are all over the place. Drops are frequent (on a standard PS4) and annoying.

    Gameplay

This is the most well crafted part of the game. Barring aforementioned frame drops, combat is fast and the increased mobility and verticality of jump jets makes you wonder why you couldn't do this all along. No, seriously, why couldn't you? Though the almost draconian reduction in team control has me wondering if the current developers of Mass Effect know what they are doing (yes i know it's still "Bioware", but no it's NOT the same people). Vehicle control feels adequate though I'm confounded by the lack of any offensive capabilities with the Nomad when you acquire it fairly early in the game. Many other parts though seem to be there only to frustrate the player, from unnecessary backtracking to turn in quests, just the worst inventory management, to the complete waste of time scanning the planets you can't land on are. These and many more design choices aren't player friendly and clearly don't come from an experienced team.

    Story

This is where the game takes a huge hit. Mass Effect Andromeda casts you as a Pathfinder for the Andromeda initiative. This ultimately boils down to you, once again, being the savior of everyone you know and love. Also you have a sentient AI embedded in your brain named Sam. So as Master Chief...I mean one of the Ryder twins you are tasked with finding and securing a home for hundreds of thousands of people. Which apparently involves a lot of murder, but whadaya gonna do? Unfortunately for the player much of this is told with a cringe worthy script and barely half baked ideas. Many encounters left me with the reoccurring thought "what the hell just happened??" and very much not in a good way. This is of course ignoring the stilted animations and 'please stop looking at my soul like a bon bon' eyeballs that everyone seems to have. Many have said "it gets better" I have, however, NOT found this to be the case. The further into the dull, uninteresting, me too story I've gotten the less I understand what the hell EA was thinking (aside from sheer avarice) releasing this travesty.

    Sound

It has some, except when it doesn't. Yup, if you fancy multiplayer, it may very well decide that your PS4's sound card should now **** the bed. Because it will. Frequently. Meaning no game sound, no dashboard sound and any party chat you're in will sound like it's been possessed by an underwater electric demon. 2017 folks. Welcome to EA of the future.

    Summary

Mass Effect Andromeda had tremendous potential but falls short in nearly every conceivable way. Fans and newcomers alike will be disappointed with what EA and Bioware have produced here. We have had several great titles released already this year, setting a high bar. ME:A falls far short of all of those and more importantly of itself.

The real thing that they don't want you to realize and wake up from is that men should not look like the main male character from this game.

In addition, the game is an absolute masterpiece of leftist 3rd wave intersectional feminist propoganda. It is absolutely full of leftist propaganda. There is an absurd number of homosexuals and "trans" on a COLONIZATION mission to another galaxy. They, in the most cringy way possible, managed to insert the "respect my pronouns" (male/female/neutral) **** into the game and retconned Asari lore in the process.

The "exiles" are clearly the libertarian/conservative minded people; and are implied to be mentally impaired and suffering from neurological disorders that makes them dislike and reject the technocratic/progressive/state/government control of the Nexus who "plays God." You can even "fix" the exiles with medicine to make them less "violent" and rejecting of the "rightful authorities."

The game is a travesty. Bioware is filled with SJW's, people unqualified for their jobs, and are more concerned with creating liberal/leftist propaganda than art.

RPG's are my thing. I've played near every one that has ever come out, from single player to multiplayer to MMO; WoW, FF14, ESO, Everquest, SWG, LoTR Online, Elder Scrolls, and so on and so forth.

Don't buy Mass Effect Andromeda. Go buy The Witcher III, or replay it and do the DLC if you haven't. Do not buy Mass Effect Andromeda. Bioware needs to be punished for this travesty and for pissing on the gaming community for making leftist propaganda filled with horrible bugs and crap animation instead of trying to make ART like CDPR, Bethesda (TES III), and some other companies have in the past and present.

In fact, I personally quite enjoy the story so far, and the characters are easily distinguishable, albeit, after 20 hours of gameplay, I really like only two of them. That's one less than in the whole ME trilogy. I also enjoy the flippant version of Ryder quite a lot, and I think the writing of the main character is great.

Combat is OK, but not great. The cover system seems unfinished and on some areas there is virtually no viable cover available, making the battles pretty one sided. There is something oddly clunky about going in and out of cover as well, mostly because it is not always obvious what is a cover and what is not. I haven't messed around with the skills that much yet, but they seem to work as expected.

Graphics is a major gripe for lot of the red naysayers, and let's be honest, the animations look horrible. Coming from titles like Horizon, it's like looking at a PS3 game. The faces are just plain bad, and there is no excuse for that considering you spend 40% of your time looking at one.

The exploration is a bit of a hit and miss. On one hand, you are constantly wondering what you're going to encounter, but on the other hand, the free space exploration is dumbed down to pointless. The mini game of resource farming from planets is really, really, pointless from space, and mining on the rover is a huge pain. But, I like diving into new areas, and see what I can find, and that part is done well in this game.

Besides this, there are game crashing bugs riddled across the board, that are frustrating. Luckily I've only had a couple of minutes off roll-back so far, but I'm saving a great deal more often after crash number five.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Being one of the few people who review this and has actually COMPLETED the game's story, here's my thoughts.

First, the negative: Bugs, glitches, and sometimes poor animations. Gamebreaking? Of course not, nobody in their right mind would give a game a 0 because of some bugs and animation issues. Remember Half Life 1? Buggy as **** but people praise it. The Witcher 3? Worst release ever, but people praise it. You get the picutre.

I actually find the story to be pretty great. It starts off a bit slow, but picks up after a while. The ending was satisfying, and left me with a pretty epic feeling. Even after you're done with the main story, there's so much to do - having only around 60% completion at the moment. Doing the crew's side quests also gives a lot of nice sidestory.

Gameplay is awesome, and the amount of choices you have to change your character on the go is breathtaking. You can play as a charging-melee-maniac Vanguard, or you can be a "wizard" with Biotics, so many choices it's astounding. By far the best gameplay of all the ME series.

Either way, the amount of reviewers here who has only played the trail is laughable. It's rather obvious most of the negative reviewers hasn't even played through half of the story. They read on the internet that it's bad, and joined the bandwagon because they're sheep, without the ability to have an opinion for themselves. It's pathetic, and doesn't do the game justice.

For each person who marks this review as "not helpful", it just proves my point further. Thanks in advance.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have almost finished this game and I'm willingly going to play again. The issue with this game, besides the graphical glitches which can be horrifying if using the default or just using an unedited pre-set head, is the same issue I have with Dragon Age Inquisition when you start out. That issue is a boring and overly long first act. Things really do kick up after you escape the Archon for the first time and characters start to open up the exact same way they did in Dragon Age.

I actually blame the writers for the dull characters since most of them seem to have written characters the exact same way in, you guessed it, Dragon Age Inquisition. This is on the other hand and change of form for the Mass Effect franchise that not a lot of fans don't like, and it also feels like a reboot of the first 2 games smashed together which I admit was something I had already thought before playing but those thoughts were only reinforced. I felt for each of the characters after the first act, I wanted to see them succeed and not get hurt even though I know they are fictional. And I have to give the writers credit since I didn't give a **** about a lot of characters from Dragon Age Inquisition.

There are issues with the game running like crap sometimes for seemingly no reason at all. It could either be in a field of grass on a planet or in the Tempest, it will just start to chug near the end of the second act. Also, the facial animations, although some of them might have been fixed since I saw some online that I never saw in game, it's unacceptable that they would focus so hard on the combat to leave the most basics part of the game so ****ty.

Speaking of combat it is great. Similar to MGSV where the gameplay was it's saving grace, for me at the very least, Mass Effect Andromeda's combat is good and I didn't even take advantage of all of the gimmicks they added. It's fun and I don't complain when I have to fight in a quest or just in the story. I feel like a badass without trying too hard and not having to fight every little thing.

Most of my complaints can be fixed with a few patches so maybe after it's all done I can feel good about giving them a 8 or 9 but pretty worlds, convincing characters, and tight combat doesn't make up for the fact that there are tons of problems and BioWare should have maybe delayed the game again to iron them out instead of going with the build that they tested over the holidays.

    THIS GAME FEEL SABATOGED!!
*This game screams everything wrong with the FEW crying and making noise @ the expense of the Many..
~We all get these weird, messed up animation faces, and Xbox360 looking effects when making character/Ryder.. This IS-NOT an accident..This company is the wealthiest in all of gaming..

***The company has too many weird people making decisions based on personal politics..
And that is wrong.. by weird I mean 'against the grain'
**It's WRONG to sell a popular product that pre-existed those with personal agenda's..

~Every Mass Effect fan or gamer should Google the people running EA Bioware and then all will be understood...

~I did NOT buy this game. I timed it perfect so Gamefly would send it to me @ the sacrifice of not getting it until Friday VS Tuesday...

*The Game itself ~~ very cliché Outter space,,,new Galaxy science fiction exploration,,,Hostile shoot 1st ask questions later locals...
**The plans all went Haywire and everything is in disarray when we arrive 1 year after the setup people..
*You're predecessor fate is so unrealistic it's NOT funny. He was 100X's the quality of character that you are.

*Combat~ The cover system is AWFUL! Reminds me of a cross between Gears War,Mass Effect and a generic Indie cover shooter....I keep getting lit up...Granted I'm playing on HARD.(2nd FROM hardest so I get my moneys worth via challenge) and YES I died 6 time son the final battle in intro/prologue....

**BIOWARE- Notorious for mass amounts of Loot-Fodder! UGH!!! This goes back to KOTOR with looting 8 different helmets all +1 in every category thus pointless and annoying to try and micro manage...
From Kotor toMass Effect to Dragons AGe. that's 8 games ALL WITH SAME LOOT SYSTEM THAT SUCKS!

**I started my gaming life the biggest Bioware fan ever. Baldur's Gate Era around 1999 and this is the biggest disappointment to date from this company...I am no longer trusting Bioware and will NOT buy games(only rent) until they imrprove........

**Bottom line~ The Business practices are too much for me to overlook.
the end product seems like this game is in ALpha....
The Animation is awful on purpose because of ANita Sarcesian types.

Had they just focused on making sure that the conversations were just a bit more realistic (they're often strangely timed and unrealistic) and animations a little less weird and robotic (at times it feels like your talking to a funny-walking, nervous-shaking, often ugly, soulless doll). Had they got those things right, then they could have got a LOT more wrong and there would have been a LOT less complaints. For a game thats is so focused on drama and relationships, this is something that should have been looked at a lot closer, I'm frankly amazed it was released in its current state. Finally, and this is coming from someone only 1/3 through the game, the plot so far seems very thin and extremely similar to the previous ME's.
All in all though, I think this could be the start of another great trilogy, as long as they don't pull a Phantom Menace, and listen to the feedback from the gamers and implement it in future updates, DLC's or the next instalment.

I've played all 3 and I knew with a different development team that this game isn't going to compare. So my standards aren't set so high. Think of it as Dragon Age: Inquisition in space. Here's my breakdown:

    Pros
    - Combat is exciting and faster pace with the introduction of the jump pack and dodge ability
    - Large planet sandboxes with interesting terrain.
    - Single Player and Multi Player trophies are combined (Don't play MP? You can get their trophies by completing certain SP tasks and vice versa).
    - Large array of Weapon/armor customisation and development and Mods.
    - The Nomad Land Rover is fun to drive
    - They bring back Horde Mode from ME 3 and also Strike Teams

    Cons
    - Facial animations are crap
    - Squad mate NPCs are forgettable and have no strong link with Protagonist
    - The cover system in combat sucks and you pay dearly with it (same style they use with Ghost Recon: Wildlands)
    - Resource gathering on planets is boring and most of the time unrewarding (you spend a minute flying to a planet and finding out you get fk all)
    - The Tempest is tiny compared to the Normandy. Doesn't feel alive.
    - Glitches and bugs everywhere (most are pretty funny)

Overall, 6. I seriously hope they learn from all these bad reviews,

The game is solid, combat is fun, characters aren't as great as previous series but too many people are comparing the 2 separate series characters which are entirely different. If game have a bad story and it fails to deliver it properly (like this game) but is focused on multiplayer and gameplay (like for honor, battlefield and others) its OK. But Mass effect Andromeda still try to be the game where the campaing is the most important part, but it fails miserably at delivering it. But not until, I learnt that Casey Hudson (who directed the trilogy) left the game with a few other senior staff who developed the trilogy (e.g. Preston Watamanuk- lead designer, David Falkner - lead programmer, Mac Walters- lead writer). At that time I thought, OH MY GOD, the director(s) of the new team has to be very very careful in designing Andromeda. Very likely that they will be people who are inexperienced of making AAA games or they simply cannot handle big projects like this Mass Effect reboot. They may think they can, but that doesn't mean they actually can. Most important, after 3 mass effect games, fans have built a certain expectation, high hopes if you like.

My worries have come true. Andromeda is a disappointment, especially, it is a game trying to reboot the AAA series. I am a big fan of the original mass effect series. Firstly, it is because I enjoy exploring different galaxies, meeting different species, learn about their characters, conflicts and politics. Secondly, during that 40-50 hour gameplay (per game), I could establish a deep emotional connection, pretty much, with most of the characters. I didn't reply the series, and the last time I played ME3 was more than 5 years ago but the story, the characters and, of course, the crap endings are all still pretty much in my head.

The most frustration point is Andromeda has so many potential and opportunities to be a superb, or even the best, highest ranked game ever. The fact that the game designer thought of exploring a new galaxy could mean many new species, new politics, new wars, new personalities, new characters, new conflicts. But they all are missed by the new development team!! Yes, you can explore new planets. Nevertheless, the new open world maps are big to be BIG, full of empty spaces and repeat buildings and structures and the side missions are all pretty much the same in all 4 planets. Boring and tedious, a well known problem in other RPG games. Due to poor writing, the characters are all more like passers-by, no emotions, no love, no connection. The combat is great (with super bio-power and tech), but you can't even customise your teammates! Don't even mention about facial animations, even mass effect 1 is better than Andromeda. I thought, I was playing a 15-year game but with HD resolution. The story isn't too bad actually, but the story missions are repetitive. All these issues mentioned above would have never been missed by an experienced development team. Sadly, the best talents (created the trilogy) left Bioware, left EA and it is difficult or nearly impossible to find a replacement for them. Not only they knew what they were doing and they got the experience but I admire their teamwork spirit in making the trilogy. The great Mass Effect is likely to be history without the original development team members.

That said, in being selective about which quests I take on, I have found myself consistently excited to continue on with playing the game. The combat is challenging with a healthy amount of enemy variety as well as drastically different weapons to choose from. A change to your load out completely changes the feeling of encounters and causes you to adjust your play-style accordingly.

There is far too much to touch on each aspect of this game but also captures what makes it better than lots of people are saying: there are so many parts to this game and there is a lot of good to be found amongst the clutter. Bioware seemed to favor quantity over quality in this title and there is no doubt that it is the weakest game to sport the "Mass Effect" title. That said, when viewed as a stand-alone product free from the expectations of the franchise, I really believe that there is a whole lot to enjoy here. I certainly am enjoying it despite the many flaws that have been largely focussed on in the reporting of this game.

No, but I found this game to be very similar to the previous Mass Effect titles and I would even say this game is better than Mass Effect 3.

    Pros:

Graphics are really good given the size of this game. I do think they could have spent a little more time one the characters faces and customization options. However, once you get your ship and get out in the world the graphics really look good. I'm not sure why so many people are talking about the animations, they really not that bad.

Soundtrack: Loving the soundtrack for this game. It fits the setting and brings the mood in for this sci-fi RPG adventure.

Story: Not bad, I'm not sure why so many are hating the story. It's not that bad, in fact I think it's better than ME3. Once you go to your first planet, the story really gets better.

    Cons:

Character customization could have been better

Some of the animations could have been better as well as some of the textures.

Some voice acting moments just felt plain and lacked emotion.

Overall, I think a few patches could fix some of the game moments. I would recommend this game to anyone that liked the previous Mass Effect titles. I don't think it's as good as ME2 but I like the game so far. There are tons of content in this game for 60 dollars. It does take some time to get to it but if your looking for a game to get lost in. This is one of them.

Also, I've read some of the fellow reviewers on here and they haven't even played the game. They are just ranting. There is no way this game deserves anything less than a 5. This game has so much to offer and do, it's a shame that so many are just rating this game 0's just because.

I do believe the creators of mass effect andromeda meant to live up to fans expectations but quite simply put they did not. Theres a number of keys issues ranging from graphical glitches, a cell shaded type of texture (Ive tried tweaking all my graphics settings and cant seem to find a resolution), poor dialogue/facial animations (This is an rpg after all, immersion and story is key), AI glitches that break immersion/ kill the tempo.

If this had been from a smaller studio of less talented developers then I would have more sympathy and understanding but due to the budget of this title and the creation time, I expected quite a high calibre of content.

Simply put ME:A is a poor attempt to carry on/revamp the series. Accepting this from a AAA studio is not on. Those giving this 1/10 and 10/10 alike have their own agendas to push I believe. Honestly I would give this game an honest 4 as I believe it is a blatant money grab to ride off the series while leaving the content hollow and generally unmoving.

Not always action packed but definitely worth the money. You can level up your player how you want picking any skills you want to focus on and giving him a modifier based on the way you like to play. Its maybe 10 modifiers some for gun play, some for defense, some for melee, some for biotic powers, etc. Animations weren't omg awful to me, and i doubt they would be to most ppl it someone had pointed it out and halfway died over it lol. They're not that great but neither is a lot of games graphics in our generation n terms of facial expression so yeah. Multiplayer is fun and could be really un with a group of friends, you lvl up a specific character with locked in powers and modifiers but you can unlock new characters and anyone can use any gun so I had a god time with it so far. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have some good things to say. I also have some not-so-nice things to say.

Overall, I have fun playing Andromeda, and that's the big question I tend to ask myself before I play a game: Will I have fun? Yes, Andromeda is fun... but is it as fun as the Shepard trilogy? Eh... I'm conflicted, but mostly, I can't say it is. Good.... but not fantastic. If I was to give the Shepard trilogy 10/10 (and I would), this would be 8.

I'll first go into my negative issues, then my positives.

    CONS:
    1. The main story's basic idea-- traveling to Andromeda and settling there-- isn't a bad one. In fact, I was excited for the great Milky Way pilgrims. I also loved learning about the angara. The problem is the villain. He's basically Corypheus, another Big Bad who's evil for the sake of being evil. I knew from the moment I met him, I'd beat him by the end by sacrificing nothing whatsoever. It was pointless to see him as a threat. And just like in Dragon Age Inquisition (which Bioware promised this game is nothing like), he wants you because you have a power he doesn't. This is all sounding familiar, and I'm kind of bored of it by now.
With that said... after I concluded the story, I was smiling when talking to my crew, and I felt proud of my accomplishment. Even if it felt very feasible before I did it.

    2. The lack of seriousness in conversation. Shepard's Mass Effect had an impact because of its cinematic drama. Now every character acts like a smug, college-grad D-bag, from the School of Nathan Drake. I HATE that smartass attitude, and it makes me want to punch every person who talks like it. It made me like the characters A LOT less.

    3. Not a big fan of the combat. It's not bad... but it's not as fun as ME3's (in my opinion). I played an Infiltrator in all three MEs, and loved it. ME3 especially, thanks to slow-mo targeting. That slow-mo targeting doesn't exist in Andromeda, and made sniping COMPLETE HELL, because enemies move CONSTANTLY. Without bullet time and "concentration" mods, sniping isn't nearly as fun as it used to be. As you're aiming, you're getting rained on by bullets and can die in an instant. Even with tactical cloak, it can be annoying. I miss ME3 Infiltrator. I also hate the cover system. In the snap-to-cover system in original games, I at least knew I was IN cover.

    4. I usually play a gay male character. There was only one guy to romance, and we didn't even get a sex scene. It faded to black. Kind of insulting, to be honest. I read "hip gyrating" and "moaning" was in this game. Guess that's for the straight people only.

    5. Animations aren't great. They aren't the worst I've ever seen either, and I think their terribleness was highly over-exaggerated-- but they still look "off". The weird thing was, the animations suddenly, out of completely f***ing nowhere, became AWESOME in the final story mission. Everyone moved more fluidly, including Ryder. it really threw me off my guard. I couldn't even pay attention to the dialogue because I was so amazed. Why didn't the rest of the game look like that? I saw that and said "that's what I want!"

    PROS:
    1. Exploration. I loved this a lot more than the main story. I loved it so much that I saved it until after the main story. In fact, I went through the main story looking forward to the exploration. It was worth it.

    2. The new race, angara, and their history. Jaal is by far the best character in this whole game, and I loved getting to know him. I took him on almost every mission.

    3. Conversation options based on personality. At first, I hated the idea of being rid of Paragon/Renegade. Now, I really like the change. People aren't black and white. Neither should Ryder be. You can still do "d**k-ish" things, just in different ways.

    4. A lot more skills and abilities than the previous games. One thing I love in RPGs is experimenting with options, and man does Andromeda have a lot of those, skill-wise. I can literally be any kind of Pathfinder I want. I recently made myself a construct-obsessed engineer who carries a really big f**king gun.

    5. Loyalty missions making a comeback. I love those. Even if they don't feel as impacting as ones in the past.

    6. It wasn't overly long. This is a complaint for some, but I hate 100+ hour games, because it lowers replay value. I never replayed DAI because it was just too damn long.

    7. There's a lot of stuff to do. I mean a LOT. Maybe even too much.

    8. The vaults are f**king awesome.

Overall, I do really like Andromeda, a lot. But I can't say I love it yet. They left options open for future sequels and DLC, and honestly, I'm more excited about those and what comes in the future than I was at completing the main story. I want to see how my choices carry out later on. If they have me excited for that, then they did make me invested, and that's all I ask. The game is definitely not bad enough to warrant a "zero out of ten."

Ok, so seeing all these people, giving 0 to the game because of "poor animation" or "poor optimization" (PC reviews on the PS section LOL), I decided to write a review myself (Yes, I'm a Mass Effect fan but I tried to stay impartial while writing this review).

Ok, so seeing all these people, giving 0 to the game because of "poor animation" or "poor optimization" (PC reviews on the PS section LOL), I decided to write a review myself (Yes, I'm a Mass Effect fan but I tried to stay impartial while writing this review).

    Pros:
+It's still good old Mass Effect. Now, when I finished the game after about 30 hours of gameplay, I can say I'm not disappointed. The atmosphere is the same, the feeling of discovering something new is the same, the joy of defeating herds of enemies is the same.
+Graphics are awesome. Played it on PS4 Pro and saw no lags, fps drops or anything like that. Loadings were rather quick and every planet looked gorgeous and rather unique.
+Gameplay is so much better than in older games. Played the whole game as a biotic class, so can't really tell about other classes, but it was so fun to jump around and slam enemies' faces with different abilities.
+Quests (Main Questline and Loyalty missions) are awesome and fun. Especially loyalty missions. Getting to know every crew member by the way of completing tasks for them, smashin faces in a bar with a fellow-krogan or helping an alien buddy meet his family. Although if you don't do side quests, you will finish the game pretty fast and won't get a full experience, but it works with any open-world game, doesn't it?
+Characters are so good. As I have already said, each of them is unique and by completing tasks for them you get to know each one from a different side. Drack is my favourite character in the entire series now.
+Voiceover is still excellent, Voice actors did a very good job and that's another plus for the game.

    Now to the cons:
-The introduction was rather stretched and boring. But getting further into the game it only became better and better, and now, having finished it, I think it worth every penny I spent.
-Dialog system became worse. I missed the "renegade-paragon system" from earlier games, so I didn't like much a new system, but that's just my opinion.
-Extra quests are rather repetitive and boring, However they are completely not important for the plot and you can take them if you want to get some more experience points or credits.
-Unfortunately only one ending, so my actions didn't really affect anything in the end. But nevertheless I enjoyed having a choice and developping colonies on different planets,

Now to a couple of contradictory points. The main problem why most people give 0 score to the game is "terrible facial animation". Let me get this straght: it's NOT terrible, it's decent. I played as a default male protagonist and his facial animation was good as well of lots of other characters. However, a female protaginist's facial animation really seemed strange to me. But again, to create an ugly character and then to complain about his facial animation is not the right thing to do either.
Next popular reason to cry about the game is bugs. No, there are hardly any bugs in this game. However during the whole play-time I met a couple of disappointing bugs that made me restart the game but overall it didn't spoil the impression.

To conclude, I'd like to say to all people who are not sure about buying this game. If you are a mass effect fan like me - you will most probably like it. If you are new to the series - it's likely you'll enjoy it too. Just buy it on consoles or a really good PC. If you buy it for a cheap laptop, then it's your problem. Ok, it's a great game, really enjoyed it, solid 8/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me start with this: the mainstream critics' average score for this game, as of the writing of this review is 7.4/10. Now, knowing that said critics are essentially part of a wholly-owned subsidiary of the companies that create products they review, this should tell you just how bad this game really is. Despite that, let's take a closer look.

Playability: My main gripe with this game is the sheer disinterest the "B-Team" at BioWare took when creating the U.I. and menus. Everything is so cluttered and unorganized it makes the most rudimentary task a tedious chore. Removal of the power wheel and the introduction of a three-limit/favorites list of powers is a confusing divergence from something I'm sure every player took as a staple to the experience. BioWare has literally removed any use your squadmates offered in combat. Speaking of combat, though the mobility added a much needed touch, heavy reliance on this idea turned what once felt like a tactical shooter, into a sub-par third-person arcade shooter that is easily outshone by the likes of Tomb Raider and Uncharted.

Story: Possibly the only highlight of the game, I personally found the main story to be compelling and emotional. It kept me interested to the very end and kept me holding my controller on binges a bit longer. However, every sidequest - if one may call them that, given the messy Journal menu that broke them into seven different categories - felt very uninspired and lacking, save for a small handful (such as a certain murder investigation). Assuming one can ignore the obvious political and social commentary trying to be pushed by the regressive writers of this game, it was pretty good. On another note, after researching The Witcher 3 as they claim, apparently nudity was all the developers learned from CD Projekt Red, because sidequest-narrative-importance was non-existent.

Multiplayer: This one is particularly enraging. For a good long while, BioWare assured us that the great leaps and strides made in Multiplayer for Dragon Age: Inquisition would be fully translated into the Mass Effect universe for Andromeda; the only thing of note in the Multiplayer is the blatant carbon-copy of ME:3's multiplayer: 4 people, boxed into and arena, fighting waves (3 less than ME:3, mind you), and doing unimaginative "missions" every few waves or so, and spend outrageous amounts of virtual currency for stuff that should have been unlocked to begin with.

Graphics & Environments: Wow. I remember all the hate Fallout 4 got for it's crappy character models, bland colors and outdated graphics within supposedly the smallest map Bethesda ever made. Mass Effect: Andromeda, to me, seemed to fill much of this criteria even more-so than FO4; while the environments look spectacular on the macro-scale, a close look at anything on any planet just looks ... meh. In Fallout 4 you did get a relatively smaller map, but it was cram-packed with a zillion things to do and see, whereas Andromeda feels like a giant empty space with only one real point of interest on its many" planets". Character models, and especially the character creation tool itself, are preposterous letdowns with absolutely nothing to show for them, other than how much women look like men. Animations are lackluster at best, and a downright insult to fans at their worst.

Sounds/Music/Voice: If the B-Team was shooting par-for-the-course, the many sounds of ME:A are essentially bogeys; nothing memorably good or bad, unless my personal love for Natalie Dormer is something others share.

Verdict: 4.5/10 - Racist crew members and amateur animators aside, Mass Effect Andromeda was a letdown from the get-go and nothing my 100+ hours did anything to alleviate the obvious: an SJW-fueled, incompetent body-snatcher took over the controls at BioWare and made Andromeda before handing the remote back to the A-Team. This has to be the case, because if BioWare knowingly and willingly handed the stick to these people, than they are in for a rude awakening when their next IP or sequel drops.

I have enjoyed aspects of the game and nowhere near the level I would of expected. Many areas are without proper polish and the formula doesn't seem to have improved. At one point I am looking at an image of the universe that is flat (obvious skybox), poor detail and ruins the atmosphere; this sums up the game..

It's horrible. You can check out on Youtube how bad facial animations are. There's also tons of bugs with characters missing or running away from the dialogue screen during talking. Story and characters are on par with Sonic the Hedgehog fanfictions written by edgy 11-year-olds, and is dragged out horribly with mindless MMO kind of quests, which could be acceptable maybe in 2003.
Also, the game likes to **** itself and drop from 60 FPS anywhere to 10 FPS during dialogues and cutscenes with close-ups on faces.
Oh, and the best part? I can't play the game with subtitles in its spoken language due to Origin restrictions on GAME KEYS, not accounts. Apparently, if I wanted to have english subtitles available, I should've bought the game from a retailer in a country where english is native. Good to know now!
A well deserved zero. Suits who approved release of the game in this state should be fired and forever banned from working in entertainment industry.

Extremely disappointing. How could a game in 2017 have such a limited and genuinely ugly Character Creator. You cannot custom a Character, only slightly alter a preset of very limited skin tones and face shapes. How they could get something so integral to an RPG so very wrong, baffles the mind.

This game is not as bad as the user reviews would have you think.
I have completed the playthrough on the story while doing a few other activities around the gameworld, and its honestly a pretty good game if you can look past the animations that will doubtlessly get fixed as BW got so much hate for it.
The story isnt groundbreaking, but Mass Effect never had an insane story anyhow, but

Can also recommend playing as an Adept, wich is immensely badass compared to the regular soldier that many people seem to go for, the combat is excellent and the gameplay doesnt have many bugs at all.

Absolutely worth the money I spent on it, I had a blast!

-horrible animation and characters models (characters just look like clowns all over)
-numerous bugs that impact gameplay (enemy models stuck, easily getting stuck in walls etc)
-open world is horribly underdeveloped and doesnt mesh well with gameplay (its mostly empty space with very little detail, and for a game that requires for battle cover you quite often get caught out in battles with no cover)
    -story is very underwhelming
-squadmates are absolutely useless, they just wander into enemies and rarely take cover and also bug out. also you cant utilize their powers anymore as they the system has been scrapped
-squadmates are super boring, they more or less just hand them to you as compared to say mass effect 2 where there are complex introduction missions and backstories
-quests are horrible (more or less fetch quests)
-UI is horrible, navigating via maps and quests is a huge chore, no quicksave, the list goes on and on
-crafting system is clunky and troublesome
-just overall low production values (i.e alot of new enemies are just old enemies with different colours and names)

There are numerous other problems to list but Ill stop otherwise itll just go on and on. Its like ea/bioware hired a bunch of kids said "heres some money" design a game that looks close enough to the mass effect series where we can just market it enough to sell it to the public...this is basically exactly what happened in real life as the game is obviously rushed, underdeveloped and just an all round disgrace to the gaming industry much less the mass effect series.

I could use many words to define Mass Effect Andromeda, but I can summarize it in: Simply Mass Effect. Thanks Bioware for coming back to become a star of a space opera.

The aesthetic is still nice, but it's constantly impeded by poor use of the Frostbite engine.
Beyond that, the excitement of exploring simply isn't there as it feels like you're checking off a list rather then going out and finding things.
At the end of the day, Mass Effect: Andromeda simply isn't good enough to bare the series' name and both EA and Bioware should be ashamed of it.

I could go on and on about the flaws with this game and why these flaws matter and how Bioware/EA royally screwed the pooch here and how there is no system in this entire game that isn't without some sort of major flaw. But here's the thing. When you're actually playing the game...when you're not busy staring at a loading screen or a transition screen or rolling your eyes at the god awful animation/voice acting/writing/etc, you're liking having fun.

And that's what's important, right? Fun? That's why we play video games? To have fun? You WILL have fun with this game. Whether it's you + 3 friends getting some coop multiplayer going or you out alone (cause your AI companions have died in the first 3 seconds of combat...again) against the hordes in single player, you will almost certainly be having a really really good time.

In fact, you'll like be having a 7.5/10 sort of good time. If I had to compare MEA to another game, I'd compare it to Fallout 4. It was horribly disappointing for a lot of the diehard fans, there were a LOT of serious problems, but, at the end of the day, it was still a fun game worth the purchase.

So if it's a 7.5/10 sort of game, why am I giving it a 4/10? Why am I writing a negative review? Well, two reasons. The first is that, despite their response since launch (which has been quite good), Bioware and EA behaved AWFULLY before launch. Some of the devs behind this game have acted in a way that would have gotten others in their field fired in a heartbeat. Truly awful behavior and truly reprehensible actions towards their paying customers and long time fan base.

But more importantly, the second reason is that there is a sizable group of Bioware fans that absolutely will not hear ANY criticism of this game or Bioware as a company no matter how legit or reasonable said criticism is. Even the slightest break from the hive mind of "Perfect game 11/10!" is met with hate and scorn. It's **** disgusting. These people give gamers in general a bad name and they are 100% responsible for the state of the industry and **** like MEA. They are the reason this game is so subpar, because EA/Bioware knew they could farm out the fourth game in their biggest franchise to some B team that's never produced a full game before and no matter what quality the game ended up being, there would be enough of this type of fan to lap it up and defend the game regardless of criticism that it'd be a success.

So yeah, 7.5/10 if you're JUST looking at the gameplay. 4/10 when you look at the bigger picture, everything included.

Bashing Mass Effect Andromeda is really stupid and so hot right now. Those virgins should get their **** together. Remember how everyone was sooo pissed that Mass Effect 2 was not the same like Mass Effect 1? That it was more action packed and there was no space for exploration? Well guess what, Andromeda is the true succesor to the first game. You are again exploring the unknown and this time it suits your character better, because he/she is not a **** legendary Commander Shepard but a young visionary. I would bet that the haters are mostly casuals who consider themselfs fanboys because they played last two games cuz Mass Effect 1 was so old and obsolete for them. They are now hating that the world is more open than in the sequels. I'm so satisfied with the game that I can't think about anything else. They combined the true sci-fi feel and great combat from sequels to one amazing game!

The animations are quite funny but it's Mass Effect for fu*ks sake! Funny shepard animation bugs were a huge memes! I'm playing on ultra and I only got stucked between crates once. Not a single walk/run animation bug ever, no dissapearing NPCs etc. Characters are great. They have a young feel and legit reasons to travel so far away. Peebee is funny, clever ADHD asari which is kinda cute. Hating this game because its trying to be SJW? Well guess what. The game is set in future which means that if humanity does not consume itself and everything will be nice and utopistic this is what modern culture and society will look like, well minus the aliens. Mass Effect was always trying to look like reality. That this could actually happen. Unlike Star Wars which just is (or was) Mass Effect was always trying to be sciency and had explanation about everything.

There is a lot of hate for the first mission. Well I get it. Everything happend so fast and the amount of information is quite overwhelming to a newcomer but a player familiar with Mass Effect it should be just fine. To be honest, first mission in Mass Effect 1, tha infamous Eden Prime is really similar. You are attacked by mindless husks created by spikes that impales human? Dont tell me that the first time you played Mass Effect it was not overwhelming. I spent countless hours reading the codex. A lot of information is still in a Codex which is a trademark for Mass Effect games. Everything is nicely writen and only thing I miss is that the Codex isn't dubbed. That voice was just amazing!

The longer you play the game gets better and better. Scaning is amazing and I just love to explore and read all new information. Its funny to bash this aspect of the game because in Witcher you are using your Witcher senses for everything. You could think that you should use your witcher senses to wipe your witcher arse.. Don't get me wrong, Witcher 3 was and is amazing. One of the best, but it was bugged as well and it did not get this amount of hate. If the wticher was made by EA the situation would be same belive me.

Combat system is so much fun and the multiplayer got more exciting! Cover system works well and jump jet is really cool. Multiplayer matches got shorter which is good. Those last 3 waves in Mass Effect 3 were just too much. Multiplayer is also harder. In the first match I got rekt on bronze. You cant no longer just hold your ground. Which is good and bad. Well you still kinda can but its much much harder to do it. You need to move around or you are ****

All and all this game is one of the best sci-fi games and a great start for a trilogy. Don't listen to the bashing reviews and make your own statement. And finally end the bashing hate train. If you could not get over Mass Effect 3 (which in extended cut was really good, end to an era of Shepard) ending than perhaps you should move with your life. Hating the game over its animation or just bacuse its SJW, more like first game or that our lovely characters got left behing is so **** stupid. Get your **** together virgins!

This was supposed to be epic, I was so excited for it. I am thoroughly disappointed. The game isn't terrible, but it is mediocre. The game isn't terrible, but it is mediocre. The mission design has been one of the big aspects critics are unhappy with, and I agree. Some of the missions, or I should say MOST of them are shallow and boring. The side quests, which are usually the bread and butter for RPG games, are hollow and lifeless. Some of the side quests are outright ridiculous and unacceptable for an RPG in 2017. One of them had me speak to an Angaran women who was upset because her sister was missing, Literally ten feet down the path and you find the body of her sister, scan it, then return to the women and she says oh I told her not to work alone. Mission Completed. Really? Is that what Bioware considers a side quest to be? World of Warcraft had side quests with more content and that's saying A LOT.

The primary gameplay loop is going to planets, improve the living conditions so it can be settled on, and that's it. The first planet was good even though the overall design was boring and empty. It had a sense of purpose. But that feeling you get from exploration and seeing things for the first time quickly wanes and is totally gone after the first planet. All the planets are approached in the same way, you go to these underground vaults, (which by the way all look and feel identical), do these terrible puzzle mini games, and interact with computer consoles by holding E. Its sad that the main plot point in the game, the ancient technology vaults, were copy pasted throughout all the planets. They even recycle the voice overs from Ryder and your allies. Always the same lines for every vault, "ok, remenant vault. Lets see if we can get this place running." Then at the end: "That never gets any less terrifying." I mean couldn't they have recorded like two extra lines so its not the same stuff over and over and blatantly lazy?

Everything feels hollow in the game, even the rich Mass Effect mythos. The previous games all had such personality in the galaxy and alien races, that wonderful charm and intrigue that Bioware was once capable of producing. But in Andromeda, not even your team mates are interesting. The team banter during gameplay is GONE. The conversations that your team would have, during and outside of combat. Instead you get LITERALLY two, or maybe three different lines that they repeat like clockwork, every five minutes. Its a HUGE turn off for me, and it just seems lazy. Hearing "I wonder if the Angara would let us train with them?" over and over from Cora makes me not even want to have her come with me when I go out on missions. It just constantly pulls you out of the immersion and highlights how lifeless and hollow your team is. I'm not sure how Bioware could have gone backwards like that, considering even the first Mass Effect had better design in so many different aspects, but its sad.

A lot of people are upset because there is really not much technical advancement from the original ME games. I mean they have had so long since the last one, what like six years? Its baffling and hard to understand how or why this game is less impressive than ME:2 or 3. I am so disappointed, this was supposed to be a classic, like Witcher 3. But just another rare miss, another game with great potential that falls short of greatness. But that doesn't mean this game isn't fun or entertaining. I was expecting to be addicted and in love with it, sadly, I boot it up and can only stand playing it for a few hours a day, and then I'm sick of it. Ill finish it, but I'm at the point where I feel like I'm just trying to get my moneys worth and playing it is almost forced. There are a lot of great moments, but many bland moments in between those few good ones. Critics bashed the beginning of the game but I actually LOVED the beginning and thought it was amazing, it lost steam after the first planet. Heres to hoping that Bioware can bring ME series back to greatness. Or maybe its time to ditch the series and move onto a new IP.

To say I am overwhelmingly disappointed with ME:A would also be a gross understatement.

    Summary
Those fearing a “Dragon Age: Inquisition” in space were right to do so, as this is exactly like DA:I, with some of the names of game mechanics changed and some elements actually worse, although combat is better. The storyline is alright and the main plot has some interesting points, but it’s far too short. The worlds and settings truly are beautiful; however, the technical issues are rampant and the game really feels like it was not finished. Framerate drops are the norm (on Xbox One). The game locked up and had to be force quit a number of times. Enemies would manifest inside walls, making it difficult or impossible to kill them. And characters in conversations would often overlap on screen, literally standing inside one another. BioWare should have stuck with a tighter, more linear story instead of trying for the “huge” open world of which they’re so proud. It didn’t work well for this title. Read on for details.

    Story
The main story is just ok. It’s a pretty typical sci-fi storyline, but that’s not really its problem. The problem is that it feels too short. I would estimate I spent maybe 12-15 of my 80+ hours on the main story. And that includes all of the introductory exposition and talking to everyone. I played one mission where I faced the main baddie for the first time and thought I was about halfway through the primary storyline. Turns out that was the second to last mission. It was very disappointing.

    Combat
Combat is probably the one saving grace in the game, at least for me. The combat is very fluid and, as promised, very dynamic. It’s very hard to just hunker down in cover as in previous titles. The jump jet adds a great mechanic for evading when needed. I didn’t use it much to hover and shoot enemies, as I found it hard to line up and shoot before the system dropped me back down. Very effective for slower enemies but not as much for the rest. I really enjoyed the melee in this game, much more than previous titles. If nothing else, melee was a great way to vent my increasing frustration with the game.

    Loyalty Missions
The missions themselves offer a good opportunity to interact with the squad. I did grow to like the squad characters, so these were fun. However, these aren’t a single mission, as before. They are numerous small quests that eventually culminate in the actual mission itself. And this can take forever. In most cases, the mission will go “On Hold” while the character absorbs some fact or material that you gathered. I had one character’s loyalty quest take almost the entire game, longer than even the main storyline. And having loyalty doesn’t seem to have consequence either way.

    Side Quests
These are another huge letdown. There are dozens if not hundreds of side quests in the game, to fill in the “huge” semi-open world. Sadly, many if not most of them are incredibly tedious. And to add on, they just take way too long. Step after step after step, chasing across the galaxy to the point that another step would have me yelling at the TV “For the love of God!” because the quest wouldn’t end. Way too much time spent on things that had little or no relevance.

    Planet Scanning
Scanning makes a return from previous titles, and they’ve somehow managed to make it better and worse at the same time. The galaxy map is visually stunning; however, it's incredibly slow, with transitions taking up to a minute for each planet or system visited. Add to this the fact that the only benefit to scanning this time is either XP or a small packet of crafting materials in the form of minerals or components, and BioWare has managed to remove any reason for doing it. They claimed they wanted to make the game about exploring, but completely removed the motivation for doing so.

    Romance
BioWare promised a hugely different romance system, but it really is the same as it’s been in all of the ME titles and the more recent DA:I. You talk to character(s) that strike your fancy. You flirt with them. And eventually you get together. The problem is that the steps in the romance are once again gated by the story. The flirting moves quite quickly. However, if you wait to finish the main storyline, then the romance just stalls, at least with the characters that I romanced. I don’t understand why they didn’t just gate the romance on itself. If you’re progressing, and the character likes you, what does it matter if you finish the massive battle with the big bad guy? It was disappointing for something they touted as new and fresh.

The game was not finished upon release.

One of my main issues in regards to the story was the execution of the "find the Arcs" story lines i was really looking forward to them, the Asari ones writing seemed pretty weak, whilst the Turian one was finished in about 2 minutes once you find the ship, it seemed like it was going to be the more interesting of the two i have found thus far. most likely that is because these are classed as secondary missions, which was a big mistake in my mind. i am much more interested in what happened to the other ships as opposed to the Ket. the arc falling flat on it's face really knocked my impression of the game i felt they could have been executed so much better

i feel that a lot of sequences are missing scenes, often you will open a door and you will be right into the conversation. you are missing reactions and build up in some scenes. the outposts just appear when you trigger it unlike the first one made. there is so much in this game in regards to side quests it seems they ran out of time thus it is missing elements that would round some of them off.

this game came out too early that is the bottom line. issues that are usually left till last to fix were left in a broken state because they evidently ran out of time. it is most likely that the scenes required to finish or help these scenes seem more natural, were not finished, thus not added to the game, leaving us with some story missions jumping us around the area with no player interaction. a lot of the scenes just don't feel right. Outposts being a big issues in regards to unfinished cut scenes, as they seem to be non existent. they tried to put too much in and came up short this is the result.

In the older games you could have up to 12 abilities to use counting your team mates abilities, in this game you have 3. We went from 12 to 3 which makes combat really **** booring.
I recommend you dont buy this game and if you must

I'm having fun with this game. It seems the patch fixed all of the bugs people complained about. I haven't encountered any at all 15 hours in! Characters pop in and out randomly at points, facial features bleed sometimes, occasional crash, and movement animations make me think this is a playstation 1 game. You can also fall through the ground at many places in the world which shows just horrible polish. Those are just bugs and could be fixed but the worst part is the interaction between characters. The dialogue is worse than a Mexican Soap Opera and facial animations are literally inhuman and unnatural. It's like they had some heavily autistic animator animate these characters based on his own understanding of how humans should interact.

Aside from the unnatural facial animations the faces of the characters are also very ugly and unnatural which compounds the problems when combined with the bad diaologue. I actually looked up the real actors and actresses that they modeled these characters off of and the actresses were far prettier in real life which tells me they either messed up or made them uglier on purpose for some arcane purpose.

I would've rated this game 4/10 if it were some small independent developer and it cost 19.99 instead of 59.99. But since this is supposed to be a AAA title from one of the largest developers in the industry it's totally unacceptable and it get's a 0.

I started gaming with those and Mass Effect 1 which, by today's standards is not great. To compare, the first game is a lot like the current game but worse in some aspects. Neither game is terrific for today's gamers or machines. However, BioWare is ambitious and quite open with a great deal of promise if EA will get out of the way. EA may be why MEA is basically ME1 with a coat of new paint and a few improvements. I gave ME1 a 7/10 by the way because the animations were appropriate to the time.

    This game has its ambitions:
    - Large Universe
    - Sets up a story line
    - Come back from the ending of ME3 (a game that was actually phenomenal despite the ending)

    This yields some positive traits:

    - Multiplayer has improved and is heart pounding at times.
    - The new galaxy is large and ready for some sort of plot. Hopefully it isn't the same plot.
    - There is more of a plot than ME1 but the game is still as open.
    - The sound quality has improved.
    - What appears to be a new visual engine or massive upgrade shows signs of promise in the future. This game should have been refined for another 6-12 months.
    - Combat is better than ME1 even if the game is exactly the same in tone.
    - The game drops some of the more boring aspects of ME1 despite maintaining them in a faster paced way.
    - Hardcore and the level above actually give you a run for your money at times as the enemies are harder to kill.
    - The AI is not strong but at least playing combat missions does not fell like shooting at ducks at the fair. This improves on ME1.
    - If you liked ME1, then MEA offers better world exploration and AI with some better visuals.

The ambition and EA also yield a ton of negative traits:

    - Combat has degraded a bit from ME3 but that is probably due to the open world ME1 style.
    - It is 2017, not 2008. This game looks like something ported from N64 to the age of Xbox. That is a regression from ME3.
    - Color schemes are ugly at times. The puke green is just off putting.
    - Character interaction is still not great. Conversations are not as shallow as people giving themselves away but still need work.
    - In an age of tens to hundreds of GB of RAM, terabyte hard drives, the i7, and graphics cards that are better than processors, we are still given very little to do on a planet and poor AI. The game improves on the routine side quests of ME1 but not by much. AI is still like it was in ME3.
    - The character creation is a mess and quite limited compared to ME3.
    - ME is still a massive sex romp in space. Let's move on from the original Battle Star Galactica to the much better 00's remake. Space porn was better to those in the 1970s.
    - The plot feels repackaged
    - Way too much faked liberalism. I think women intentionally outnumber men. It feels like this was a business decision from a bunch of Canucks tempered by Bioware to leave out certain folks who would not really qualify for a real space mission. It is written into the story poorly. I believe in equality but forced equality makes for awful story lines. If you really want integration just integrate your workforce and the writers will carry their personalities to the story in a more relaxed and real way. I am surprised there wasn't a statement about women being just as good as men.

Mostly, the negative traits come in the form of animation and poor character interaction, the EA push to publish, and repackaging, I think EA fell into the common EA trap of reproducing the same plot type, with the same story telling because they think every game is just a business. They seem to be telling BioWare to really just *** off and do it their way. In case EA forgot, they are really bad at making games. It is why they make more money in sports games and why Bethesda is superior. Leave Bioware the *** alone. Art is a business but it is still art and must still move. Sports moves on its own.

In summation, the game feels like ME1 9 years later but with slightly better visuals and AI. That is just wrong. However, it does set things up nicely to a degree. Because of the positives, this game is a 6 and not a 3.

And therefore getting along the 'trend' of **** Im guessing I'm not the only "Mass Effect Veteran" here, but to be honest I feel all this trash talk is just a butterfly effect of the internet(z). I had no hopes when I preordered the game, I did not read a single review or watch a single early-game video about this and that. Nothing. I simply preordered the game and fired it up as the countdown got to zero.
I know some people will not agree with me here, but it really is nice. And of course, things can always be better, like the facial animations as an example, the writing, but to be honest it has not interfered with my experience with the game. I really have to say this, because imo, all this talk about this just makes you overthink it.

But, i do understand when people say its a different game, because it is. It is a whole new design with a whole new perspective of Mass Effect, and i must say, I really do like it. It feels more free and much more personal, the previous games had such a strong redline, it had a more linear approach. And most of all it was SOMETHING NEW. Do Mass effect: Andromeda deliver? Yes, i think so. Does it have bad writing? To some point, a bit maybe. But not too drastic. Is the story bad? No. Its not. The approach to the story is different now. It relies more on how you see the universe and how you calibrate yourself in to the game. In the previous games you had a redline and this was the main storyline missions, and then you had side quests. In ME: Andromeda, there is of course a redline. But its all backed up my SO MUCH tasks, side quests and just pure information you can gather and use to make the journey more interesting.

The combat is a lot better than previous games. You just need to learn it, like with all realtime based combat. Specially if you play on Hardcore or on Insanity. Then the abilities and how you play really comes in to a show. The only thing i guess is that the melee option isn't that viable when it comes to hot-paced combat and this is something i hope they will rethink in a patch or DLC etc.
Im not going to go in to to much of the Crafting, since it it does it job pretty well, specially on higher difficulty. I've also felt a bit of increase in loot on higher difficulty but it might just be a coincidence. Other then that: multiplayer needs re-work. And i hope it will come later on.

A general tip is to play the game on Hardcore mode, because it makes you really play with the games mechanics instead of just surfing along. It is ALOT harder but alot more fun, and it also takes more time. I really think its the way to go, Just like with Witcher 3 - you have all these crafting materials and armor/weapons to craft but no use of it if you don't play hardcore. It all makes more sense. And gets more intense!

It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.

While it’s underwhelming in places, there’s a lot to like as you venture into the weirder parts of Andromeda. Frequent technical issues hamper the experience a bit, as does an uninspiring main story. [June 2017, p66]
