Probably worst big-budget video game of 2020. It's almost sad that developers still think it's okay to make trash like this. Not recommending.

There really is not much to keep your attentions after a few hours. The story ties in a multiplayer experience that is repetitive and dull. The story isn’t isn’t very entertaining either so this may the most “meh” game I’ve played since the PS2 generation.

It feels like a game created with monetary gain first and artistic expression second.

Imagine if we were given a single player only marvel’s avengers game that allowed you free reign over the entire city of new york in the same vein as marvel’s spiderman, receiving incoming transmissions from the other avengers of thugs robbing banks, enemies like loki, taskmaster, norman osbourne or even thanos running amok and causing chaos. Being able to switch back and forth between a wide array of avengers as you aim to accomplish those missions, deciding between doing the mission alone or even being able to call in other avengers to assist you if it gets too difficult. Don’t you think that would have been a way better avengers game than what we got? It can be fun at times but with this repetitive structure, it gets old fast and that’s disappointing

Believe the reviews. 4/10 is generous. This Game. This **** game. It seemed like there was no way it could lose. But here we go, watch it fail on every point. Look this game up in the dictionary under Squandered Opportunities.

The worst part of this game is the story. Instead of playing as the Avengers you play as a new character trojaned into the main slot, a character you never heard of and don't care about. I call her Manhands, based on her power of making her hands gigantic. She is an unknown wannabe who spends most of the game fawning over a group she calls “the resistance". She is the center around which revolves a shallow, hamfisted story as boring as the gameplay it accompanies.

In the first 40 minutes prepare to be lectured heavily with SJW cliches, the message delivered awkwardly and without finesse. Rote repetition of chanting mantras that were played out in 2019 take the place where an Avengers story should be. Awful story. Awful, awful story without craft or storytelling expertise. It just keeps getting worse the longer you play. This story is not fire. It's not awesome. It’s not intriguing, it doesn’t draw you in. The terrible cringe of the writing won’t grow on you. IT SUCKS! Hard.

The gameplay is no better. Remember PS4 Spider-Man? You really got the feeling you were spidey with access to his unique movements and moveset. You don’t get that feeling in Avengers. No matter which hero you choose, they all feel kind of the same. What would have been great is a well designed level, where each hero’s unique abilities allowed them access to different sections of the level or approach challenges in a different way. Even Banjo-kazooie on N64 got that concept. But that concept is not understood in Avengers where everyone moves, plays and feels pretty much the same.

The levels are mainly nothing but basic hallways, sometimes pretty, but you can’t escape you are basically in a square box. There was an old hulk game on Playstation 1 that had more hulk-like feels than hulk in Avengers. Square square triangle. Square square triangle. Over and over. And over and over and over. The longer you play this game the worse it gets. This game is the worst kind of grind, a boring and inane mashfest. A fact only made worse by the potential their exciting characters promised, a promise undelivered by the devolopers.

It’s important to understand before you buy this that even though the game is called Avengers, familiar characters take a backseat to SJW inspired Kamala who is the center of the main storyline. THE AVENGERS ARE ONLY BACKGROUND CHARACTERS. This is a Kamala Khan game. Which would be fine if that’s what you bought, but you bought an Avengers game. You know damn well you didn’t buy this game for this spotlighted little chick, you wanted Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Widow. The stupid main character Kamala robbed you of that game. Even when you do get control another character, she pipes in constantly with annoying and disruptive chatter to spoil the mood. Seriously, Kamala Khan is one of the most irritating and unwelcome characters ever invented.

Random villains show up randomly, just to pad the roster. Think it will be cool to play a game with all those old familiar villains? It won't be. Pointless plot structure. The Avengers themselves, when you do see them look less like a movie or comic book counterpart and more like millenial day at the cosplay convention. Except cosplayers would look much better. These soy-soaked Avengers-style placeholders don't look heroic. Maybe it's a blessing you don't really get to play as them that often.
Love microtransactions? so does marvel/square-enix! Really really love them! A lot! Don’t worry about it though, after playing this crapfest a bit you won’t be back to purchase more.

This is by far the worst Square-enix game I have ever played. I wanted to love it. But the idiots that made this just weren't going to let that happen. The fact that they are locking out reviews after the game has been made playable is proof they don’t want the verdict on this game revealed. It’s bad. I can’t believe this is from Square, it is a game so far below their normal standards they should be ashamed. Go ahead, don't believe it. After all, you like the Avengers. So did I, friend. So did I. Don't cry you weren't warned. This is the worst game I have played all year, the biggest disappointment of 2020.

Marvel's Avengers game is not bad, but neither excellent. The campaign over all is pretty good, and the story is well developed and en-thrilling. The creators really put a lot of effort in making the gameplay mechanics feel real and powerful, and the connexion developed between Kamala, the player and all the Avengers is pretty well made and emotionally involving. The creators really put a lot of effort in making the gameplay mechanics feel real and powerful, and the connexion developed between Kamala, the player and all the Avengers is pretty well made and emotionally involving. But at 2020, with predecessors such as the Batman Arkham trilogy, or Marvel's Spider-Man it's unacceptable to have a game with so much lags, so many inconsistencies at the time of exploring and such a repetitive mechanic when exploring the world trough the side missions. Batman showed how to make collectibles fun to collect with little puzzles, and it seems that Square Enix tried so hard to nail a new collectible system, that ended up being boring and repetitive.

The world exploration is also an issue. There's just so much limitations to how to do things, how to access areas and how to interact with the world, in Marvel's Avengers the world is not alive with you. The world is static and does not interact with the player in ways that make me feel that my actions have any impact. These kind of level design was ok at first, but comes in the end as an over all boring experience. Rather than leveling up different characters and feeling that the world reacts to me and compelling me to further play and develop the rest of the Avengers, I rather get my hands on another game that really reacts to my character and its growth.

I am a fan of superheroes and its games. I believe anyone who enjoys a good story and the feeling of power in a combat system is going to really enjoy this game, but I cannot stop from wondering how much better it could have been if further development on the world was made. If every character had diversity in its characteristics that allowed me to plan my actions in a stealth approach vs a head to head combat, and that made me feel unlimited in my interactions with the world and with my team. It wasn't. bad first effort, it was just a disappointing one when compared to what the superheroes gaming industry is doing nowadays.

Where do I even begin with the new “Marvel’s Avengers” game? I remember being very excited for this when it was first announced back in 2017 (at the time, it was known as the “Square Enix Avengers Project”), as it came at a time when Marvel made it known that they wanted to work with trusted developers to make games based on their properties (like Insomniac Games with “Spider-Man”). So,Where do I even begin with the new “Marvel’s Avengers” game? So, when I heard Crystal Dynamics was working on this, I thought “well, these guys have had a lot of success with the ‘Tomb Raider’ reboots, so I bet they’ll do great with ‘Avengers!’” And even with the mixed early reception, I continued to hope the game would defy the odds and blow us out of the water. And this is why I don’t get my hopes up anymore because, when I do, they tend to get crushed. Case in point, “Marvel’s Avengers.”
In terms of the few positives, the game’s writing is solid. The story isn’t the greatest thing ever, but I liked the characters (especially Kamala Khan) and I felt like the voice acting was solid enough. Also, I thought the game’s concepts had some potential early on. I immediately took note of each Avengers’ “quirk” and felt that would be a good point for them to build off of, and it got me excited for the rest of the game.
However, the game becomes a crashing bore once it throws you into the “we’re clearly trying to rip off ‘Destiny’ or ‘Anthem’” world where the mission structure feels so lackluster. While the game is more cinematic and story-driven than such game, the mission structure reeks of the “live service” titles it’s clearly trying to emulate, and it almost feels like a blatant attempt to rope you into the multiplayer. While playing the game, I kept feeling like the campaign worked in service to the multiplayer, but not the other way around, and that’s a shame because, if they focused on a single-player experience, this would’ve been much better. But instead, the game structurally fell flat, as did the combat. While I liked each hero having their own “quirk,” the combat got stale incredibly fast, and it felt like each Avengers’ “quirk” was utilized as well as it could’ve been. Also, wow, this game runs horribly. The frame rate is absolutely atrocious with numerous bad dips, and the glitches...oh man, the glitches. I had more than a few times getting locked out of missions because the game glitched or something (I even got locked out of one of the final boss fights in the game because of glitches), and it just felt like the game lacked any form of polish.
Yeah, “Marvel’s Avengers” is a soul-crushing disappointment. I wanted to love the game, but Crystal Dynamics really dropped the ball on this one. If the team had focused their efforts on crafting a great single-player experience, this game could’ve been a worthwhile adventure, but instead, it just doesn’t stick the landing. I genuinely can’t recommend it to anyone, though if you‘re feeling that curious...just watch a walkthrough online. You'll have saved your money, and you'll walk away from it with the assurance that you really aren't missing all that much.

I think they should had more content and fixed some issues before release. In this state it looks like they want to use the Avengers franchise and its appeal to just get extra money out of gamers. The story is not related to the movies and starts on A-Day which is a celebration of the Avengers getting a new headquarter and a helicarrier powered by a Terrigen crystal (Mutagen that activates random superpowers in humans that have Inhuman genes / ancestors). Because of some tragic events the crystal is destroyed, a Terrigen mist is created and the Avengers disbanded. Years later superheroes are treated as criminals while an organization named A.I.M. (comic fans will say uh oh now) is tasked in policing and healing the victims of the “Inhuman Disease”. You start as Kamala Khan on her heroes journey. The story itself is decent but some events / twists you can see coming from miles away and there are many out of character moments or characters feel like lesser versions of the originals. Kamala Khan itself is a great character and I like that they chose her (She won me over in all the years). Later you get more characters to use with a good variety. However the gameplay is mixed. There are some annoying bugs, crashes and the AI is not really good. The missions have not much variety and they should have more villains as enemies. You notice the games as a service approach. It is a role model for repetitive gameplay. The loot is also unrewarding as it is the character customization. I expected more and most fans agree. Then there is the monetization. There is so much stuff to buy and there were paid gaming passes for each character. This is a shameless approach and there is no hiding or defending this. The interest for the game is already dwindling towards zero and I read that Square-Enix had lost somewhere between 48 to 65 million dollars from different sources. They also failed in adding more content as soon as possible to stop the downwards spiral as the next (content) DLC was delayed. Even as fan of Square-Enix I said they deserved it. Overall this is more of a money grab than a videogame. Avoid it as it is not worth your time and especially your money. Expand

Marvel's Avengers has some weird quirks to it. On one hand, it can be somewhat fun as a beat-em-up style game, but on the other, it can be a frustratingly micro-transaction-filled experience, with a game design that doesn't fit the context of the game. When I first played this game I was hoping for level designs similar to that of Spider-Man PS4, and the Arkham games, but unfortunatelyMarvel's Avengers has some weird quirks to it. On one hand, it can be somewhat fun as a beat-em-up style game, but on the other, it can be a frustratingly micro-transaction-filled experience, with a game design that doesn't fit the context of the game. When I first played this game I was hoping for level designs similar to that of Spider-Man PS4, and the Arkham games, but unfortunately this game is most similar to that of Destiny and other games where your goal is to grab loot. Which is a weird style of game to rip off for an Avengers game, but even then this game fails at making the loot useful. I never felt like the loot was actually worth picking up, and overall the base of the online component of the game was just... useless to be honest. Now, many people have been saying that this game has a good enough story to warrant a 6 or 7/10, but I don't agree with those people at all. The story isn't bad, but introduces things in a weird way. Like most of the story just kinda shows up, and if you don't read a lot of comics I can see how some of the story can be really confusing. I also feel like this game should've had more villains and boss fights in it, but it only has 2 supervillains. Which is pretty underwhelming. Of course the main problem with the game is the bugs. I have experienced so many glitches that made me restart checkpoints, and tons of frame rate dips, as well as pop-in, the technical issues that were shown in this game were proof in my opinion that this game should've been delayed and better tested before release. Overall, I had some fun with this game, but it wasn't a lot, and I feel really disappointed by this game in general. If I was given the choice I'd probably give it like 2.75/10, but I think 3/10 is fine enough, if you don't care about technical problems, and just want a basic button masher with mediocre combat... I don't know why you would, but I would say that this an okay game for you, but if you're looking for a high quality marvel game... well this ain't it, Overall it was a very disappointing experience Expand

The Good: The graphics are gorgeous. The combat is fun enough to keep me engaged and each character feels unique and fun to play. It's fun to smash things as the Hulk, fly around and blast things as Iron Man and beat people up with stretchy arms and legs as Ms. Marvel. There are plenty of missions and quests to take part in, so lack of content doesn't seem to be a problem thus far. Also,The Good: The graphics are gorgeous. There are plenty of missions and quests to take part in, so lack of content doesn't seem to be a problem thus far. Also, despite what you may have heard monetization isn't as bad as everyone is making it out to be... provided you have some patience. has a battle pass system (called Challenge Cards). Each of the 6... let's call them OG Avengers has a free battle pass that will award you with credits. These credits can be used to purchase premium battle passes that (If I'm understanding correctly) will come with whatever new characters will come at a later date. So, in theory, if you have the patience to grind out the battle passes you never have to spend any money if you don't want to. Also, unlike some other games with battle passes these never expire or rotate so you can take as long as you want to complete them. Would I rather have no battle passes and just get all of the cosmetics for free right out of the gate? Yes. Is this system as bad as most Youtubers are making it out to be? No.

The Bad: Spider-Man is a Playstation exclusive. I don't think I need to explain why that's bad. Kamala Khan is just flat out annoying. As much as I love her powers and kit, I just can't stand her personality. I wish Crystal Dynamic had chosen any other character to be the main character of this game. If they wanted a young, new superhero why not use Miles Morales? Yeah, he's Spider-Man but he's not Peter Parker, so I doubt Sony could complain too much about his inclusion in non-Playstation versions of the game. Though to be fair, Sony doesn't have the rights to video game or comic book versions of Spider-Man.(Look it up if you don't believe me.) While the graphics and character models are good, it's clear that Crystal Dynamic/Square Enix is trying so hard to make these character models look like the MCU actors and actresses without actual having to use their likenesses. Which leads to this weird disconnect where you know Banner is supposed to be Mark Ruffalo but isn't. Cap is supposed to be Chris Evans but isn't, etc. Also, while I enjoy the combat, the timing for perfect dodges and parries seem to be a little iffy. Sometimes I can dodge and parry with easy, other times it feels like I'm getting hit even though I pressed the dodge or parry button. This is especially noticeable on Hulk. I don't know if each character has their own unique dodge/parry timer but it feels like Hulk is the hardest one to get right. Speaking of Hulk he feels very weak at least at low levels. He just doesn't seem to do much damage nor can he tank a bunch of hits. Despite the fact that I defended the battle pass system as being relatively fair, the prices of individual cosmetic items in the in game shop are ridiculous and should be lowered in my opinion.

The Ugly: Did I mention that Spider-man is a Playstation exclusive? The performance and optimization of this game is just atrocious. Here are my specs:
    R9-3900X
    RTX 2070 Super
    16GB 3600mHz
With these specs I have to turn down the settings to Low to get a stable framerate at 1440p. Anything above low will result in regular drops in framerate down to single digit numbers for prolonged periods of time. The framerate at low is so unstable one minute I'll be getting over 100 fps and then it'll drop below 50 fps the next. So far in the day that I've been playing this game I've had 2 crashes. One crash direct to desktop and one that froze the game so hard that I had to force close the game. I've read reports on the discussion page of people losing progress because of corrupted save files. That's right an always online live service game has local save files. So expect cheaters to find away to manipulate game files sooner rather than later. Apparently, Steam Cloud saves were added today (September 4, 2020) right be launch, so disregard everything I said about local files. Also, there seems to be a memory leak that will cause framerates to drop to unplayable levels after a few hours regardless of graphics settings requiring a restart of the game to fix.

Final Verdict: I am enjoying this game and at it's core this game is fun. However, I cannot in good conscience recommend this game until:
    1) Spider-Man is in the PC version.
    2) The many technical issues this game has are fixed.
Until then do not buy this game.

This is not a user friendly game at all. You cannot change players stuck as one player through every level, (and i mean being able to switch between the 4 characters you take on the level, i know you can pick a differnet character to do the level.) and why did we get this lame ass line up?! 2 Hawkeyes, 2 thors, can we get some avengers with powers?! (Yea thor and hulk, but we always have to play as them, maybe some new characters, marvel is rift with them!) I mean hulk is so nerfed you might as well call him Bruce in the field. Cap can't jump for **** and nothing special about playing as him, get the shield bounce wow. I mean if I play an avengers game I want to play as some of the mightiest heros, not normal people who are springy. Same as every other game, if I wanna shoot people ill play far cry. There are so many avengers and we get this lame ass line up. How many times do you need to play as the same 3 characters? I get it we love them. But how many avengers are there?! You take away the free game online with so many characters, and then you do this **** Like ok, youre taking away the game to make us pay for it, but can you have the same amount of characters to play as? That one had like 40 or more, this is a lame selection. I can't even play as storm, i get it trying to keep xmen and avengers separate, but they overlap, a lot, so many xmen have been avengers. And can we all agree that the in fighting is just enough. How are they the mightest heroes when they cant even stop bickering for 2 seconds, grow the **** up! At this point lets give all the kids a try and say **** the old team. Worthless whiners, im smarter, or stronger. How about you stop mesauring dicks and do the job. And before people are like that is how it is in the stories they fight, well then lets get some writers who know how to make a team. Everone on that team has worked with a team before, so they can, they just have to be babies. If the avengers need their ego stroked every 5 seconds no wonder aim took over, it's a lot of time outta the day doing that instead of fighting evil. If not for the fabulous Ms marvel I wouldn't have even played, new character to play as, and she is just the sweetest kid, great character, nice add to the same people over and over. Graphics are fine, gameplay is not the best, try aiming to shoot with widow and end up zip lining them closer like 5 outta 10 times which was making me so annoyed. I just don't like this game, and wow I can buy costumes for the people and banners and emotes, but how about better powers or weapons or anything. How about something useful for game play not this useless window dressing way to grab money. A new animation for a fishing move, but it adds no power or anything. Just looks different. No thanks I'll keep my money. It's just not a fun game, and I guess playing with people is the big thing this game, but I don't wanna, I just want to play as differnet characters, without pvp or missions with 2 or more players. Maybe get the game right first then add people. Nothing says fun like the same 4 players on a team cuz there are no people to play as. Hell even dragon age multi let you unlock different character sets to play with to keep it fresh. Not this game though, you get this amazing line up of 11 characters, and that is it, and the majority are just normal people who have good aim, oh so mighty! And yea they are avengers for a reason, but to put ALL of them in one game?! With no others to play as is rude af! And the chapters to switch between stories is just so stupid to navigate, you have to go to the main menu to switch between them, you can do 1 mission if you hold up on the wartable then it goes back so you have to switch on the main menu. Like I said just not made to be fun to use, or play. Lucky for 3 stars honestly, and how many people have the bought to post reviews about how amazing the line up is, and the variety of characters to play as? Cuz that is bs, just a money grab of a game. Expand

Bought this because I loved Marvel's Spider-Man. The combat in that game was challenging yet satisfying. Not so here. First of all, you're supposed to be able to block, dodge and counter, but good luck executing any of those when you're being targeted by turrets, missiles, freeze rays, lasers, rockets and grenades all at once. First of all, you're supposed to be able to block, dodge and counter, but good luck executing any of those when you're being targeted by turrets, missiles, freeze rays, lasers, rockets and grenades all at once. It's so chaotic, I can't even focus on one enemy long enough to contemplate what I'm doing. And when you're playing with four people, there's so much **** happening on the screen you can't even see where anything is. So you're forced to either a) mash buttons and unload your special abilities as soon as they're charged in the hope you might survive, or b) run away and use ranged attacks while you wait for your teammates to thin out the soup. It's sometimes impossible to tell what's killing you--the chaos starts and the next thing you know, your health bar is almost empty and your character's saying something like, "I'm not doing so good." And guess how you're supposed to fill your health back up? Yup, by carefully executing moves. I'm in hell.

The gear is absolutely pointless which makes it all the more annoying when you can't progress to the next story mission because your gear isn't upgraded enough to make the mission not a total nightmare. It's nothing but a tedious chore to have to keep checking the gear screen to make sure you're using the highest level stuff. And when you're in combat, you don't notice the difference the gear makes except that maybe you might die slower.

One more complaint: the jumping. If you're jumping a long distance, just one too generous a nudge of the thumbstick is enough to send you careening over a cliff, then you have to stare at that loading screen for practically a whole minute before you can try again.

It doesn't work as either a mindless beat-em-up or as a looter shooter, which is a shame because I like the Kamala Khan character, the acting is good, and the graphics are good. Very disappointing.

Even on release day, I was so excited by the idea of the game that I think I was allowing my perception to be pretty generous in overlooking flaws.

Honestly, I had a lot of fun with this game for about a day or two. The campaign was short, but I was excited to get through it to get into what I assumed the "real" game was: Playing online with friends. That proved to be wildly underwhelming, as each mission felt almost identical and the grind of leveling characters just somehow wasn't satisfying enough.

A couple of the characters are fun to play as, namely Thor, but playing as him really began to solidify the problem of feeling underpowered, as a lightning charged hit from Mjolnir only dinks away at a basic enemy's health rather than shattering them. The enemy units are wildly uncreative, just an assortment of the same few robot and armored troop designs, and they just aren't satisfying to fight.

The cosmetics are another huge problem with the game, as most of the upgrades for your characters don't apply any cosmetic changes, and the skins available are all somehow more goofy looking than anything from the classic comics.

The new Hawkeye/ Kate Bishop update seems to be too little, too late, but I may check it out if it's free. I've already thrown away more money than this game deserved.

Also... where's that PlayStation exclusive free Spider-Man DLC I was told about??

But things change after I met Hawkeye storyline’s boss. I found the most annoying boss in my decades’ video game experience: about only 6 times’ mistakes are allowed in about 15min’s battle in which even with a perfect dodge, I can be hit, and beyond attack preview red zone I can be stunned.
Beginning to hate avengers’ series due to a whole night of torture struggling.

Melee combat which is 90% of this game feels spongy as all hell, like your attacks aren't even connecting. In a world with God of War and the Arkham series, how you can screw up melee combat this bad is baffling. The worst crime this game commits other than the live service nonsense is that it makes all your heroes feel weak as candy floss in a bucket of water - if even basic grunt enemies are as little as 2 power levels higher than you, you die in a just a handful of hits. The Hulk should not die in 3 hits. Well done Crystal / Square - you took the hottest property in the past 20 years and p*ssed all over it. Expand

And what drives me insane is the pure greed of this £54 title, not only do you have to pay for the game there are pay walls on cosmetics in game currency to get better gear to which I think is rather appalling considering the game isn't really that expansive in terms of level design and gear sets. What sets this game apart from other looter games is that the combat is really fun it does lose some of its charm as the game progresses but none the less fun.
If I was to buy the game again I would wait for a price from to about £30 I think that is the most I would pay if I had waited.

It doesn't help that the main character is Elastigirl either. Maybe Disney should sue? Oh, and the enemies are bland not diverse whatsoever. It's just wave after wave of them. Nonetheless, it features repetitive gameplay, a poorly conceived story, worse versions of our favorite super heroes, glitches galore and much more. It's just so hard to stay with the story, especially when signposting is not the best and the main hub is wonky. I can't speak to the multiplayer, but the game is just below average, overall. I hope Crystal Dynamics goes back to focusing on games like their Tomb Raider series, because this is maddening. Expand

The updates w/ new characters suck and are mostly just lazy reskins of characters in the base game. It's also terribly buggy. I had to restart the campaign halfway through due to a game-breaking bug, and I had to restart so many missions so many times during that 2nd playthrough due to glitches and bugs. The "DLC" campaigns for the new characters are also terrible and half-baked. I am straight-up not able to advance past the Hawkeye / Black Panther campaigns due to a game-breaking bug in both of them, but I'm not restarting because I can't tolerate this game anymore.

Get ready to fight hit sponge robots for 95% of this game. Pure laziness and wasted potential.

The game launched with over 1000+ bugs and glitches, which they later released a patch to fix, only to install the patch and find many of the bugs are still there. Your power level and attributes will change mid mission, having an enemy do little damage to you one minute, but his next attack, same as the last, obliterates you. The frame rate drops are atrocious, the AI's are useless, the enemies make no sense, and the missions/objectives are lackluster and extremely repetitive. The developers of this game made it seem like there was much to do in this game, but there isn't. You're literally playing the same missions and levels over and over again and all they do is swap out which boss you fight at the end, stamping a different mission title on the missions themselves in trying to make them come off as if you're doing a whole new mission. The enemies are ridiculously overpowered and you can barely stagger them at times, but one hit from an enemy, sometimes from hits that are unavoidable due to indicators not letting you know an attack is coming, will literally have you tumbling around and getting up ultra slow, giving you little time to avoid following attacks, especially when all the enemies focus on ONLY YOU most of the time, which leads me to another point. This game is pushed off and made to seem like a multiplayer game, yet they force you into doing things by yourself. You'll have missions that don't allow you to play with others, and that's the end-game, alongside matchmaking issues, and mostly being paired up with others lower or higher than your power level, which can automatically revert the challenge level you placed at 4, to go back to 2, then you have to leave fireteam and change things back all over again and try to matchmaking until the right power level players join up. You'll have missions that require a team, like having to stand on 4 different plates around a big room to hack a terminal, but your AI companions won't help you do that, causing you to have to deal with all that's coming your way since enemies seem to always ignore your team and target you first, all while having to reach each terminal on your own to hack them. You'll have vault missions that requires you to stand in the middle but, if any of your AI companions stand on the plate, it won't count, you're forced to stand there and take on many enemies while your AI companions don't fight efficiently enough, or hit hard enough to really give you the necessary support to make things feel like they're there. I've had issues where my entire AI team just stopped fighting and I was left alone, sometimes it's one, sometimes 3, and this all happened this week! There's so many issues, the UI is horrible. They have so many games they could look to in order to figure out the right way to do things, but no, this game just feels so prehistoric in it's making. The loot is horrible, the frame rates, the AI companions and enemies, everything in every place, you will find something wrong. This game deserves a low score. Many issues in this game can't be ignored, and some fan boys will try and say that it isn't all bad etc, but the facts are there and any realistic unbias individual can see all that's wrong with this game. This game locks you out of daily stuff sometimes, despite them saying they fixed those issues, and so much more. Then the cost of the cosmetics are absurd. It would cost $10 of real money to buy one new outfit, and the outfit is just a new color variation, why should I pay $10 to get the same outfit, but in another color? This game clearly shouldn't have been released in the condition it's in, and if it wasn't for the Marvel name, it would've been dragged out just like Anthem was. This game may get better in a year or two, but it's not something one should buy right now. Expand

It could’ve been a great single player title. The publisher chose to go down the game as a service path though, and those who prefer to play solo need to tackle run-of-the-mill co-op missions. The multiplayer on the other hand is messy, chaotic and in the long run boring. When the developers manage to fix the most pressing bugs and find a way to bring more variety to co-op, this might become a solid game. Right now, I can only recommend it to the biggest fans of the Avengers. [11/2020, p.26]

This is the perfect example of "Games as a Service" done right. Marvel's Avengers offers up a superb campaign story to play through that is promised to be expanded on in the future. The gameplay may be repetitive, but it includes just enough to keep players interested and invested in the endgame content that is available now to keep this game going until the next step in its roadmap. The possibilities and potential in the future here are hugely exciting.

There have been plenty of moments during my time with Marvel's Avengers where I’ve genuinely had a great time. But this game keeps finding ways to drag itself down- at times it almost feels like it goes out of its way to do so. There’s just so much here that I can’t overlook, no matter how hard I may try. An unnecessary and broken loot system, a litany of horrible technical issues, uninspired and one-note mission design, and a story that fails just as much as it succeeds- it doesn’t matter how mindlessly fun the combat is, it isn't enough to overcome such a heavy list of problems.
