There is no doubt that Marvel's Avengers did improve a lot in its new presentation for next-gen consoles. Crystal Dynamics had a long time to develop a more solid version when it comes to technical aspects such as graphics and performance, however, the game remains the same: entertaining, but repetitive, with a so-so multiplayer and an enjoyable story.

Though Marvel's Avengers makes a superhero-sized splash on PlayStation 5, this is still at its core the same game we had back in September 2020. That said, the improved visuals and passage of time both mean that Marvel's Avengers on PS5 is essentially now the definitive version of the game, boasting much more responsive gameplay and a wealth of bug fixes and quality of life improvements. Though no amount of extra pixels or DualSense features can transform the game, the fact that Marvel's Avengers is actually enjoying a fairly steady stream of worthwhile content should be reassuring to those who have been sat on the fence for the superpowered caper. In short, if you've been sitting Marvel's Avengers out, now is the time to jump in.

While the content shortage and cross-play challenges still exist, performance problems are eliminated, and bugs almost entirely eradicated by the next-gen console launch of The Avengers. Stability issues remain, but with the promise of a more consistent launch of content, the future is a little bit brighter for The Avengers.

The technical prowess of Marvel's Avengers on PS5 is impressive; the game has never looked better and the endless load times are a thing of the past. The new content that launched alongside the current-gen update is nothing to write home about, however, and there isn't much here for players who finished the base game at launch. The upcoming Black Panther campaign and new DLC content might fix that, but Hawkeye isn't enough on his own. The PS5 version of Marvel's Avengers is the definitive version of the game for players who held off at launch, as the frustrating technical issues are gone, but the game hasn't quite received the content overhaul that it needs to win back the crowd that's already experienced it.

One of the better upgrades we’ve seen can’t prevent the feeling that this delayed update is still lacking in content, and it’s now more of a concern than ever. [Issue#1, p.92]

The technical upgrade just makes the game run better. Cutscenes that struggle and stutter on PS4 run smoothly on PS5. Some of the game's previously long load times have been cut to virtually nothing. A few spots, like the pre-mission character select screen, still take a little time to work through, but the time to get in and out of missions has improved substantially.

There will be case studies written about this release, because it should have been a sure-fire slam dunk, and yet it feels like a missed opportunity. Make no mistake, the title has improved since launch – and with the announcement of Black Panther, developer Crystal Dynamics remains committed to iterating on it for the foreseeable future – but as we alluded to in our Marvel’s Avengers PS4 review, there’s a disconnect between the promise of this product and what it actually offers.

Habe gestern nun Marvel's Avengers beendet - also die Singleplayer-Kampagne.

The problem is that Crystal Dynamics wanted to make a live service game without knowing how to actually make it. And because they designed it as a GaaS, there is no skill in this game's combat system, unlike the 2 games developed by Insomniac Games. You just have to deal damage to sponges, unleash powers and ultimates, and heal yourself, just like you would if you were playing a MMO. This design decision contradicts the very nature of superheroes. Can you imagine, for example, the Hulk being kicked in the ass by puny robots one quarter his size and them not being smashed with one hit? Or Thor swinging Mjolnir into human enemies and them still being alive after the hit? That's what we see in this game.

I managed to play just the intro (which is easily the best part of the game) and a couple early missions where I had to deal with waves of spawning and re-spawning enemies in enclosed arenas for an eternity. Then I had enough. And that little girl Kamala Khan aka Miss Marvel is actually very annoying, on top of being a forced diversity/woke/SJW BS.

On PS5 there are 2 modes to play the game, performance (60 fps with dynamic checkerboard 4K) and quality (30 fps with native 4K and some graphical improvements such as more destruction). As far as I know there is no Ray Tracing at all. At least loading times are greatly reduced compared with PS4.

Yeah, I hate MMOs and loot-based games such as Destiny and The Division. But I'm pretty sure even people who like these genres would really dislike Marvel's Avengers. And I'm surprised we got a GaaS game by Square Enix instead of EA or Activision. I just wish Disney had allowed Sony to make an Avengers game.

Terrible port. Sony shouldn´t be working with square anymore. The frames goes down every time you go to the city.
