Loot is level locked. PVP is invite initiated. There are no human NPC's. Every mission is mind numbingly repetitive. The "story" is told through hundreds of holotapes cause, again, no human NPC's. It looks absolutely terrible for a 2018 game and runs like hot garbage. Shall I go on? What a mess, Bethesda Softworks used to be one of the best gaming studios, now it's a bad joke.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My Fallout 76 review, to put it simple the game is a Blast. I have over 30 hrs played since Tuesday and been having a blast. Yes the game has no NPC's this is true and listening to holotaps is a bit boring I can agree. If you played MGSV and enjoyed that game for what it was, then you'll like fallout 76. It's basically fallout 4 Online, the game also has a MMO twist and there is some PVP element to it ( just need to tune into a radio station).

9/10 - The reason for my score, because nothing is perfect in this world.

Fallout 76 is a joke. And it's not a funny one. This game has absolutley no content, it is devoid of any fun, everything you do is walk through an empty map, and it is so bad that a structured review isn't even possible. Never play this broken, unfinished mess of a game, if you can call it that.

This is simply a cash grab. It is literally just Fallout 4 with multiplayer and should have been treated as a DLC to Fallout 4. Lastly, I think there are some major exploits going on. I was a level 4 and got PVP killed by another player with 2 shots. I hadn't fired on this other player and was just exploring. I don't mind being killed, it just shows how many problems this game has. Bethesda just has this left over engine sitting around and no talent left in their ranks. That is plain to see. I give it a 2 out of 10 because I need to justify to myself that I spent 60 on this, otherwise I would give it a 1. It's not as bad as No Man's Sky but it's pretty close. Expand

The endgame content is grinding. The bugs and glitches are game breaking (game freezes and crashes). Roleplaying is nonexistant. No one plays the pvp. Building is locked by perk cards making it late game content for most people. Stash is too small

You get games like Horizon: ZD, RDR 2, WITCHER 3, MARVEL´s SPIDER MAN and then THIS **** **** which looks like some early PS3/X360 game and moreover even runs so **** bad. HOW can Bethesda even think of any success of this crappy game. And we all know that the technical state of this game isnt the only issue it has. Unbelievable.

If something is only fun with friends that's not point for the games benefit, but your friends, you may as well be playing spin-the-bottle, heck, that would be so much better than this "game".

There are hardly anyone to be found playing the multiplayer, so if you do not have bunch of friend ready to drop everything and jump into the game with you 100% of the time you will not be having good time.

I never give something a 0, and it's definitely not review bombing, and I know Bethesda's games are buggy and crash until usually the community fixes it. But on PS4 it crashed right on the title screen. Three times. I reinstalled, and moved from system to external storage to troubleshoot. Kept crashing at title screen. It wasn't even a very nice title screen. So that's a 0.

You know, this is what happens when you try to build an MMO on a concept that has always been about singleplayer. I mean, fallout always have been about wandering around the wasteland by yourself or sometimes with a one(1) companion, and trying to make a multiplayer only game on that makes it completely fall on its ass. Elder Scrolls didn't get this (at least before the updates) so why do it with Fallout?

The game could have been filled with rich lore, NPCs with a wide variety of personalities, cool looking locations, and amazing storytelling. But no, it's a Multiplayer-only game. There is no narrative within the world, and you have to "make your own story". You mean a story where classic lore has been retconned, NPCs with personalities are nonexistent, discovering dull looking locations, and getting killed by **** players?

Bethesda also decided to make FO76 on the same engine as FO4, which not only is an outdated crappy engine on its own, making FO76 look carbon copy of FO4, but also can be used to create mods. Now mods on Bethesda games generally were great, but the said games were FRIGGIN' SINGLEPLAYER GAMES!. You seriously think some players won't be ****s and create mods that give unfair advantages and may even break the game? Yeah, there could be an anti-cheat software, but then it will also block mods that were genuinely trying to improve the game. And there aren't even private servers yet, which I am hoping there won't be any monetization scheme to run the private servers.

Guys, just get Red Dead Redemption 2 instead.

-can't change your fov as of right now
    -Your carryweight is very small
-A story? What's that never heard of it
-Remember how i said that there were a lot of cool new items ? WELL GOOD LUCK GETTING THEM BECAUSE ENEMMIES ONLY DROP CRAPPY LOOT
-Your weapons break so often you have the feeling they're made from cardboard
-Items are leveled. WHY???!!!! this was nerver a feature in fallout and nobody ever asked for this, oh and by the way you cannot upgrade a weapon to your level because that would be too easy
-The fact that you need to eat and drink (yeah i don't like this feature)
-The Atomic shop i have nothing to say except that putting microtransactions in a game that already has a bad reputation isn't really a good idea
-don't even think about doing pvp in this game because the system for that sucks more than a vacuum
-the servers are not F****** encrypted ! that means someone can cheat ingame, make you disconnect from the server and the worst that he can do is get your IP adress HOW? FFS this the first thing that bethesda should have worked on

In the end i think the game has potential but has a lot of negative points that really hurt the game in it's gameplay and it's reputation.

If your looking to play don’t come looking for your typical fallout experience look at it more as a mod or an addon to fallout 4. But something I wish they would have done is delayed the game and fixed these issues before launch so the game could be more stable, but I give them a bit of a pass because it’s there first online game so they have that but a lot needs to be improved on!! Every game critic goes ham 10/10 5/5 100/100 best game of the year. Oh and I almost forgot microtransactions when the game already costs 60$. For now I will say that I'm *really* enjoying this game. I love the Fallout world and this game feels like Fallout. The world is amazing, beautiful to look at and varied in its locations. That, in itself, is a pleasure to a Fallout lover. I have played solo quite a bit and I enjoy that because I can take my time, fully explore and read the terminals and notes, listen to holo tapes etc. and I'm intrigued by the story which I have a growing sense of. It's also very fun to run around with friends and do quests, take on big enemies etc. There's some great additions to the enemies in the form of weird and wonderful creatures. The perk system is surprisingly deep which provides so many options in the kind of build you want to go for.
On the downsides, I *am* becoming frustrated with the inventory and stash limits which are manageable but just not fun to manage. THIS IS BEING INCREASED! Just read Bethesda's latest bulletin and am very happy about that. I also want to get deeper into base building, having been really into the settlement building in FO 4, but am going through a spell at the moment where my base has been removed every time I rejoin the game and my main building (which is blueprinted) is dismantled. Feeling a bit fed up about that but it may be something I'm doing wrong....I'm working on it and will report back. I should add that that's only just started happening, Prior to the last day or two either my base was where I left it or I could replace it perfectly without any problems. Performance wise I'm not experiencing the freezes and crashes that some people are reporting, It gets a bit laggy at times but that's about it. Neither have I experienced a lot of bugs. In fact in my experience it's running pretty well. I'm running a PS4 Pro & have good internet. (I'm also playing on PC and it runs smoother and the game looks even better on that). I'm really looking forward to where this game is going, and I have the strong sense that Bethesda will be continuing to improve on the teething problems and adding new content. Don't believe all the rubbish that's being spouted out there. Game wise it may not be for you, but everyone I gave a free code to so they could participate in the BETA (Bethes gave all who pre-ordered 3 free codes for friends and I had double - PS4 & PC) really enjoyed their time in the game and 100% came out feeling much more positive about the game than they had been prior. Several of them who told me they weren't interested prior to playing it have now bought it and are having a good time with the game. This is a good game with some things that need to be improved, and they are being improved. I'm happy with it.

I dont mind that it is multiplayer, its a big map and its not often you see other players. But lets go over some of the details:

Graphics: Everything in the background look like it has haze/fog, all the time. The graphics on FO4 is better.when looking at objects in the distance.

Lootbox: its stupid with the 400 limit, its way to low. Fallout is a game where you should loot and collect for building and crafting. With this limit it destroys the fun of the game, because you have to use way to much time to handle inventory.

Framerate drop: I have noticed heavy framerate drop in scrapping menu, nearly to the point that the game becomes unresponsive if you have many items.
The same happens when you enter areas with many enemies or players. Also there is a lag from when you enter VATS until you can shoot. Not fun when the game throws many enemies at you. Its better to stay away from VATS in those situations.

Enemies and spawn: Its kind of stupid that enemies spawn at an area you have cleared right away. Its frustrating, and takes away some of the fun. Like, if I clear that area, leave to dump some items at my camp (that is placed just outside the area I cleared), I have to start all over when I return to same area a few minutes later.
The same if you die. I was clearing out a big area with high level Super Mutants, nearly at the end I died ( because of lag and unresponsive game). Then I could spawn outside the area, but I had to clear out everything one more time. I turned of the game instead. This is not my idea of fun gameplay.
No contact with server? Same result. I was thrown out of the server when clearing out many enemies, came to the last one and game froze, no contact with server, resulting in logging in again, spawned just outside said place and had to start all over again. (now with less ammo and food/stimpacks). This makes progress feel useless and boring/frustrating.This is not fun Bethesda,

Many times enemies float on the ground when they move, it kind of looks like they are on a hooverboard instead of running/walking. Enemies that you cant kill, enemies that just stand there. The AI in this game is rubbish.

VATS/Shooting: When targeting and shooting enemies in VATS it is a frustrating lag (as said before). From pressing button for entering VATS I have to wait a second before shooting. If I shoot right away the first bullet will miss as VATS uses around 1-2 seconds to lock on target. This is frustrating as you sometimes have to act fast when the game throws way to many enemies at you at once.
When in VATS its not possible to bash enemies with gun, this can be frustrating if your enemies are to close and VATS uses said time to lock.(communicate with server).

No NPC makes the game boring, with a very thin story. I really like and enjoy the Fallout universe, but this game dont belong in this universe. Shame on you Bethesda

I hereby declare my boycott of Bethesda, effective immediately.

As a survival game it fails, as a fallout game it fails, as an online game it fails. This game has nothing to offer anyone. Hopefully Todd and Pete really get a wake-up call and return back to the core decision/dialogue/consequence mechanics that made previous FOs the games they are. They got permission to mess with the formula because they gave us FO4 and everybody lapped it up, even though it was the beginning of the garbage we've got from them lately (FO shelter, FO4, FO76.) Fallout franchises has always been a story about the survival of the mankind in a post apocalyptic setting. The games have changed along the years for sure, and this review comes from someone who has played every Fallout since the original release in 1997, most of them more than once till the end.

I`m not going to write about the awesomeness of the original 2D Fallouts developed by Interplay, nor the fact that Bethesda saved this amazing franchise by allowing it to keep on growing to new unexpected directions. I`m just going to write about how awesome the latest addition is instead.
Regardless if you have ever played the series or not, the latest installment offers an console-gaming experience like no other game out there.

The wasteland itself is a vast place, filled with huge amount of content. It`s all about exploring and survival in the big picture, as well as growing your character along with your camp to ultimately being the dominant force of the land. And to be able to experience this all with a friend from the start, oh my.

When I first heard that there was going to be an online Fallout, I just wished it would atleast be a decent Fallout game. I didn`t know what to expect, since I really could not see this game being played as a multiplayer game.

After getting my hands on it with my wife, we have been playing it non stop as we are lucky owners of 2 sets of ps4`s & tv`s. The level of the shared survival / exploring experience is just out of this world. We have played tons of games together, and no match for Fallout 76 in terms of the kind of experience it is.

Exploring the fallen world, looting the grim ruins we discover, fighting super mutants etc, scrapping enough junk to craft our vital equipment as well as our shared camp, completing quests, keeping us both fed and hydrated, meeting other real people in our way not knowing if we end up fighting or helloing them; It`s a masterpiece rough on it`s edges, and those little edges can barely be noticed if you concentrate in the game itself. I mean even staying hydrated and fed is an experience, searching for water and hunting for meat to cook. When we managed to build our first water purifier the satisfaction it brought was glorious.

I have read lots of comment`s about the storyline not being equivalent to it`s predecessors. This game is not a novel, unless you make it one by yourself, and you sure can. It`s a sandbox where the story is not as relevant as it was in the earlier games. Of course this is just my opinion, not having played the game alone so far rly.

I have not encountered any game breaking bugs so far, and it`s been 3 days of hc playing. Small bugs, yes of course as usual. Bethesda games tend to have lots of small bugs, but accepting imperfection as a part of life itself is a lesson which should be applied here. Focusing in what the game really is about, is where the reward comes from, not from longing for something it isn`t. That reward is pure gold here, atleast with a friend to enjoy it with.

The only ones around apparently are dead... i guess that they have decided not to put them cause in the multiplayer we shall determinate who is the foe and who is the hero. Inon Zur does a great job has always with the soundtrack! One thing of the multiplayer is that people are diffident to team up often, and the missing of the chat makes very hard to make a proper team, even cause you don't know with who you are dealing with, and most players don't even use a mic! For the price i think that is too high...infact i got it with 45% discount! What i hope is that Bethesda puts more effort in working on more stuff for the game, like, for exemple, Facepunch does with Rust. In conclusion, Fallout 76 is what i was expecting when in 2017, before it was announced, i was imagining what Fallout 4 in multiplayer would look like... so it's worth it? Probably! It is a Fallout game, in case you wonder. Huge post-apocalyptic world filled with hundreds of locations, each one telling its story in subtle details. Tens of hours of exploring, beautiful soundtrack and audio (the best of all Fallouts in my humble opinion), and option to play with your friends together - which you can, but do not have to, use.

The strong points in my opinion:
    - huge world filled with lore, with typical Bethesda attention to detail
    - the locations are no longer linear, expect underground cavern systems, even buildings are often rich
    - the music and sound, the best in the series (great with headphones)
    - the RPG character building with selectable perks, that can be reconfigured at any time, so you can adapt your character to your momentary style of play

    Neutral:
    - multiplayer, coop and PVP. I am a solo player mostly, so for me - it works, has some quirks.
    - the graphics engine - looks like upgraded Fallout 4 one, works for me
    - home building system - again similar to Fallout 4, but with limited number of objects that can be placed (too low for me)
    - VATS - now does not slow time, but I use it often, With proper perks it works great.

    Bad:
    - bugs, but again, its typical of Bethesda, they will get it fixed. Nothing major though, like 1 of 50 quests is broken, stuck in UI or game freezes like once in 4 hours, that sort of things
    - inventory limits - forget unlimited storage in your base at it was if Fallout 4, and the limit is too small for me. Bethesda promised to increase it, but how and when is unknown.
    - the Atom shop (microtransactions) is overpriced - its completely optional and for visual things only, and you can earn the microcurrency ingame (slowly), but the price is like 15 bucks for a Vault Tec power armor paint job??? Come on...

For the sake of fairness - I play the game mostly solo, and I enjoy the tranquil exploration with occasional fights, I like to hoard materials and build my base, craft my weapons and armor. There are complains about missing NPCs, but hey, its post-apocalyptic world, every human is dead (except for players, that got out of Vault 76), and the events that led to this - why the world is like it is - are for everyone to discover in the game story and locations.

Overall - I love the game, and I have a very high respect for all the people, who put it together, with love. It has its quirks, but for game this huge? I can tolerate that and I believe Bethesda will get it gradually sorted.

Spent a few hrs in the South of the map yesterday..came across a low level player getting attacked from all sides by super mutants so I helped him out..he then followed me around for a good hour so I took him on a sight seeing tour of Point Pleasant and the Mothman museum where I helped him level up,took a few pics had a fun few hrs scavaging and exploring.
The quests have been really really good and yes no NPCs but for me it doesn’t harm the game..the quests are from logs which makes me feel as if I’m following in the footsteps of all these dead people and I’m piecing together there story’s..at times I feel alone and vulnerable and I love that..

Overall, Fallout 76 is going to be hated by the bandwagoners for a little while, but in the end it will be a classic in the eyes of the real fans, just like Fallout: New Vegas became known as the best after the fact.

    Sound - meh.

Optimization - PISS POOR. Seriously unless you have the latest hardware available you aren't going to be able to play it at a consistent frame rate is near impossible. Some areas it's like trying to get a near sited 80 year old to describe the image on one of those magic picture toys. Not only that, but due to low frame rate I had to basically use the vats system in every single goddamn fight I got into.

With Fallout 76, it seems that Bethesda has stripped away the aspects of the game that made it worthwhile, and lazily left in everything that made it so frustrating and broken. Even most of the bugs and broken mechanics that were in Fallout 4 initially are still here, along with a slew of new issues. The game just feels like garbage to play, and it looks like a total mess. I'm glad I played this game on a friend's machine instead of purchasing it myself, and I feel bad for all of the people who foolishly pre-purchased it at full price (with even more milking to come through microtransactions and future DLC).

I've been a long time fan of the franchise, played the original Fallout 1 within weeks of its original release. That being said, I don't care whether or not Fallout 76 eschews certain core aspects of the series. What I care about is whether or not it is a good game. It isn't.

It is mind-boggling that a AAA game released in 2018 can have as many bugs and glitches as it does.

It is mind-boggling that a AAA game released in 2018 can have as many bugs and glitches as it does. FOV/framerate locking, horrible optimization, I shouldn't have to make .ini tweaks in order to make a brand new game run at least halfway decently, even on a new machine. The world is dull and lifeless, you're just as likely to have a kid screaming into his mic as you are an actual productive experience with other players (my tally currently sits at 5 of the former, 2 of the latter). i am about a full day in playing this game. 22h on record now. i played by myself for 8 hours. then actually went out to look for a gang to team up with. no one would join me. it seams very very hard out of the maybe 30 people i have run across, that would like to be friends.

My first 8 hours of playing this game... it was dead it seamed. it was as if i was playing Fallout 4 after the main mission. I was able to get a power armor frame. and a massive plethora of pipe pistols. that i can only seam to sell for 1-2 bottle caps or deconstruct into one or 2 screws. depending on item condition. and after about 8 of those hours, compiling materials and a few quests. i still couldnt build a full on house (4 walls and a roof). So after i gave up on the building aspect of the game. i then got board of doing the same kind of quests over and over again. ether fetch, baby sit, kill something, or read an entire essay worth of hidden quest paths. I have been around the block a few times with these holotape and such story systems. Fallout 1 and especially Fallout 2 had them already. It wasnt new.

My next few hours. from hour 8 to about 12 i found one of my friends in game. And we didnt go on some massive adventure our the like. i was helping him get his quests done and the like he was helping with some of mine. We still couldnt really build much. And he got tired of just doing the same kind of quests as well.
From about hour 12 to 13 we just talked and tried to figure out the leveling system, some crafting, and where to go and do next. so from hour 13 to about 16 we went to the edge of the maps. We tried to find the largest landmarks. and we ended up getting frustrated as we kept running out of ammo, and getting chased down by a gang of 4 other players wanting to PvP.
My friend left on hour 16 and i went back to where i like to set up my shop. trying to work with the crafting system in some way. seeing what i could or couldnt do.
Then followed by me Alt-Tabing out of the game to see how to start looking for nuclear launch codes... to no real prevail.

My Review of this game is a 2/10. its boring. its empty. theres nothing at those cool looking locations. the story didnt hook me or my friend. the quests are generic MMO quests. its still buggy. and as i have seen from previous BGS games, they will remain buggy to the end of their life.
The Engine is too old for this stuff they expect it to do.
The players ruined my experience. but it was alright when i was playing with just my friend. the no push-to-talk system is cancerous.
There is no amusement to about 80% of these locations.
There is no random special encounters with lets say as happens in Fallout 3 or new vegas.
Its arsenal is lack luster. it will be an E.A. like system where i have to play some 100+h before i get to end game equipment. that i might not even have the level to use. I already got power armor frame and a minigun though. Ammo is harder to come across.
The survival aspect of this game is a joke. you dont get hungry or thirst too often at all. Softcore survival just means that you are to not have too harsh of a penalty on death... not have it become a massive chore when you actually need to drink or eat.
The game is alright for exploring and some time with friends. But thats all that is here. wide as an Ocean, deep as a puddle. ill give it points for the looks and the environment. but everything else? No.

Out of this entire experience, i came out feeling ripped off. I payed $65 pre-order... i get home to open my PHYSICAL CD case. to find that where the CD is, its a cardboard disk... THERE IS NO PHYSICAL COPY OF FALLOUT 76. and it was STILL a FULL PRICED game. Not only that but the pre-order from Gamesstop; Their special pre-order item? was a Fallout Sticker to put in your car window.

I have no idea what Bethesda is doing. idk if this is Todd's idea. but if this is a joke. it went right over all of our heads.

As of today. I know this wasnt your first Online game, Bethesda. i am no longer a Bethesda fan. Goodbye Bethesda.

They rely on a old engine and old gameplay that fans dealt with because of the rest of the game was good. Now they rely only on the engine and old gameplay.

This is a shell of a game that shouldn't be supported. Look at Red Dead Redemption 2, A gorgeous game with a 60+ single player story mode and an multiplayer component added on later. ADDED ON. This would be an ADD ON in another game, not a full price game on it's own.

Giving this a 10 just to combat all the 1s and 0s. In all honesty this game (after 15 hours of gameplay) I would put between a 7 or 8. This defiantly feels like a fallout game. However, instead of long character dialogs there are TONS of long Holotapes and Terminals. If you here for the story and want to be spoon fed you will probably not enjoy this game.

This is more of a survival game than any past Fallout. There is TONS of lore but you have to be willing to read or listen to a 5-10min holotape monologue. You can discover stories of people trying to survive this NEW world, a church congregation that was robbed and murdered by the preacher, as well a kid who is convinced that the bombs fell because he had been "Bad" and his dad told him if he does bad things, bad things will happen.

Again there are good stories you just have to find them.

There are constant group events that spawn for everyone in the area to join in on. Out of the 3 events I have done they were all VERY different, multistaged, and very fun.

And just when I think I have the game figured out, I head toward a hill where a cargo drop is located, as I loot the box a GIANT green radiated cloud comes up from out of no where and covers the area.... Lets just say that things are bigger and scarier in Fallout 76.

A Note to everyone who gave this game a 0 or 1... even if you HATE the game a 0 or 1 just means that you are a butthurt troll. There are plenty of BAD games out there 100x worst than this game and they still are 2s and 3s... If you give this game a 0-1 your review is irrelevant in my opinion... maybe need to put a few more hours into Fortnite!

Does this game have bugs? Yes... not as many as the fallout 4 release.
Is there Lag? Yes... game will be continually optimised like EVERY OTHER online game.
Is there a good story? Yes... you have to be willing to look for it.
Should you buy the game? Depends, if you want a lot of dialogue, character building, and interactions... this is probably not the game for you.

If you want a survival based, world building, sand box style game set in the fallout universe with all of the dark humor and lore intact... this could be a really fun game.

A major downgrade in the Fallout series. Most of the good was literally ripped from Fallout 4, using the same engine, and almost all the same sprites, items, mechanics, and environmental features. Almost everything they added in that was new or changed was a step down in quality.

The story is awful, the gameplay is boring and frustrating, and the immersion (what Bethesda is known for) is non-existent. The only real redeeming features are the aesthetic, the large, open world, and the social aspect, but those aren't enough to save it.

Ultimately, Fallout 76 feels like less of a AAA game about living in a post-apocalyptic world, and more of a C game about cosplaying as a post-apocalypse survivor in a mediocre LARP theme park.

    The Good:
    1) Great Aesthetic: Beautiful scenery that makes you feel like you're truly immersed in a post-apocalyptic world, and with a solid soundtrack.

    2) Open World: The game takes place in a giant, relatively well-designed open world for you to explore.

    3) Other Players: Other people can make it fun through the depth they add in socialization, teamwork, and interaction. I found teaming up with friends to be rewarding, and some of the group events in the world could be a little fun to take part in with strangers, to an extent.

    The Mediocre:
    1) Some Decent Mechanics: Combat mechanics are ok, but not great (in line with lower level FPS games). This game finally added rifles that do real damage, but shoot slower, which has long been asked for. Crafting and modding mechanics help add some personal touch to the game.

    The Bad:
    1) Story: The story is pretty bad. It's told entirely through holotapes, but they botched it terribly. It's mainly just a series of boring, droning on monologues from "survivors" asking you to come to point B, where you have to shoot things, then point C where you have to shoot things, and so on. The whole game is basically just a scavenger hunt that completely lacks spirit or intrigue.

    2) Motivation: Why should I care about a bunch of holotapes? There are literally no NPC's to be affected by your decisions, and because it's a shared world, you literally cannot change anything in the world at all, not even small things, because other people still have to do the same quests you did later. (In fact, sometimes you see people line up to do the same objective that literally should only have to be done once, like opening a water valve. The immersion is completely broken when this happens, and it happens often.)

    3) Reward System: The reward system makes no sense and feels so detached and anti-immersive. Because there are no NPC's to reward you, after you complete a "quest" you simply receive random loot in your inventory for no reason.

    4) No NPC's: To maintain a no NPC environment in the story, they have to go to ridiculous lengths to justify it. Basically, in every quest line that you are supposed to "meet someone," they turn up dead. It becomes hilariously predictable and unbelievable fast. No NPC stories can work, but this game has failed terribly at it.

    5) Heavy Focus on Meh PVE: PVE is pretty much the only thing that happens that matters at all in this game, and it gets repetitive and uninteresting fast. Basically it's the same as FO4, but with no real sentient villains to care about or share dialogue with. PVE is not what Bethesda is known for, and this game relies too heavily on it for a game that doesn't do it very well.

    6) Bad PVP: So, the only villains left are other players, EXCEPT there's not enough motivation to PVP, so it doesn't really happen, or is uninteresting when it does.

    7) Survival Mechanics: Hunger, thirst and weapon condition were added to this game, but were poorly executed. I might have cared less about this if the game was fun, but it just pours salt in the wound when I'm already bored, and I'm having to deal with running out of ammo, food, water, healing items, and my weapons breaking all the time.

    8) Downgraded Building Mechanic: The CAMP system is not an awful building mechanic, but it is a major downgrade from the settlement building/management system of Fallout 4. It's also worth noting that they advertised improvements in this area and never delivered.

    9) Buggy & Poor Programming: There are a number of bugs & poor scripts in the game. For example, there are area defense quests, where I found myself literally sometimes seeing enemies spawn in front if me inside the defending area, which should never happen. This was not close to the only issue I experienced, but it was one of the worst.

    Final Score: 4.4/10

Buying Recommendation: It may be worth playing if you don't care about story, immersion, dialogue, or exciting gameplay, and you just really want a game with a good post-apocalyptic aesthetic that you can mindlessly explore, or play online with friends and strangers. However, even then, wait for it to go on sale. It definitely does not warrant a AAA price tag.

Many of the other reviews have been correct in clunky gameplay and borning. Fallout76 is a very difficult game to review because it is such a bizarre entry to the Fallout series.
I believe I gave Fallout4 a 7 review, this is noteworthy because Fallout76 is basically 85% Fallout4 with all the NPC's and quests removed. (the things that made fallout4 enjoyable) all that is left is a hollow husk of a game, with the clunky gunplay and inventory system of Fallout4.

If you enjoyed the gunplay in Fallout4 and enjoyed building a settlement, but found the quests disinteresting. Then maybe Fallout76 is for you, if you want to go around bashing ghouls with your friends sure it can be fine.... for awhile. Other than killing random mobs and looting their corpses this game is devoid of purpose. There is no RPG elements, no branching stories, or interesting characters; just a group of roving psychopaths murdering irradiated creatures (you and your buddies).

I am very disappointed by this game, it feels lazy and uninspired. The game is also awash with bugs and technical issues. I hope for the sake of the Elder scrolls series that Bethesda will learn from the failure of Fallout76 that is my only positive for this game.

So utterly disappointing and flawed in every possible way… The first few hours, most of it can be ignored, and occasionally the flaws can be forgotten, but only briefly before they come storming back to the forefront. An awful, boring, empty, pointless experience. There is, however, a glimmer of hope. It's worth mentioning that there has already been a Bethesda title that was equally as unimpressive: The Elder Scrolls Online - but looking at it now, it has transformed into one of the best MMOs out there. There's always the hope the Fallout 76 develops the same way and becomes something special, but for now, that seems impossible. It's a world away from that.

Fallout 76 isn't your typical fallout experience. You don't have NPCs or dialogue, but instead get real players that should fill this void - that ultimately fails to do so. It does some things right, but as of now I cannot recommend getting this game as long as it stays a broken and boring mess that it is right now.

Fallout 76 is the series’ Freshman introduction into the world of online, multiplayer games. As a result, we are experiencing all of the awkwardness and clumsiness associated with that season of life. It is imperfect and a bit uncomfortable, but I see opportunity for Fallout 76 to be more than it presently it - to be a truly great, rich Fallout experience.
