Yes MW3 doesn't change its overall formula but it in no way has to and I doubt it would be as successful if it did. When it comes to The single player campaign is amazing and it does exactly what one would expect from the series. New beautiful environments, tight controls, and new additions to your arsenal. The multiplayer is just as amazing. They have really added some major improvements. Now your rounds can get recorded and you can save the recordings and upload them for bragging rights. They also have made it easier to join a match with your friends which is a major plus. I won't go to in depth with this review because I don't want to spoil it but PLEASE don't listen to the other reviews. Theres a reason why MW3 does as well as it does and this game deserves the sales and recognition it gets. As they say it gets lonely at the top.

Negatives- They took out some of the killstreaks like nuke. That was a major disappointment it really gave you something to strive for.
They need a brush environment for snipping.

Game's phenomenal. The only reason it has such a low rating is because people are just comparing it to its predecessors instead of just looking at the game itself.
The campaign was incredible fun. Many differently styled missions that all end up in a pretty cool ending.
Co-op is a lot of fun with friends.
Multiplayer is the best I've played so far.

The game is actually fun, if you were wondering by the, thanks to the BF fans, 3.(1-5) user score on each port.

Wrapping up the trilogy in a very action-packed campaign, with levels like Turbulence, Stronghold, and Dust to Dust, bit short for some, but a good campaign.

Spec Ops was brought back with Survival mode, it’s Zombies, but in each Multiplayer map with difficulties, stations for guns, armor, explosives, and air support, with enemies for each round, depending on the map’s difficulty.

Haven’t tried Multiplayer yet, because errors every time I try, might be because servers are shut down or something, and I didn’t have the Elite subscription. Looks/Looked fun, though.

Even if it is an overpriced MW2 expansion pack, bringing a few minor tweaks, guns, and features, it doesn’t need to be something completely different. Sure, all CoD games have something different, something new, but really, I don’t care, just as long it’s actually good and fun to play with.

By the way, the people who loved all other CoD games right before this one will say that they played it and it was a joke/map pack, and they’re not BF fanboys, but, if it’s an extension pack for MW2, then it’s just as good, isn’t that what they’re saying? They’ll #2 CoD MW2 on any CoD tier list, yet put CoD MW3 on the near-bottom, with “it’s just CoD MW2, but with a few new things, new campaign, and no nuke”, then it’s just as good.

The Campaign continues the story of Soap, Price, and Makarov from Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2. It's a pretty good finale for the last Modern Warfare and I, personally, thoroughly enjoyed Blood Brothers and the flashbacks from the previous two games. The Multiplayer is okay. The spawn points are horrible and the players are just as bad as ever, but the new game mode Kill Confirmed is surprisingly good. There only seems to be one over-powered thing in the Multiplayer, Assassin Pro. The Spec-Ops Missions are more for people who want more of the Campaign but the Survival version of Spec-Ops is wonderful. It could be better with the inclusion of Akimbo attachments to Handguns and Machine Pistols, more of a perk selection, and 4 player co-op instead of just 2. Overall it's decent for an FPS and good for a Call of Duty. Rent it if you're an FPS fan and get it if you're a Call of Duty fan, whether or not you have the previous Modern Warfare games, it's still good. 8.5/10 Expand

I paid £25 for the game from a certain retailer (as part of a deal) which I think is a good price and well worth it.

I also own, play and really like other games of the same genre, so unlike some of the other reviews I will make this as fair and unbiased as possible in an attempt to be helpful.

I've owned all the CoDs of the past few years on PS3 (since CoD4) and this is definitely the slickest, smoothest and fastest, although once I've prestige once I tend to start to get bored of them.

The maps are great. They're varied and bigger than before. The MP part of the game flies. The graphics are slightly improved (think there's new lighting FX) with better textures and environments. It does feel very familiar, but for me thats a good thing and I believe people would be moaning if it were too different. For me, CoD should feel like CoD and this is definitely COD!

Graphically, I'm always a little disappointed by any game (kinda feel like I want everything to visually be a generation of console better), but whilst this maybe isn't graphically the best game out there it does look truly great and should score highly on that front. It's also easy to spot things whilst running or panning and easy to see where you are going - not sure why but some games (Crysis 2, BF3) whilst maybe slightly better graphically seem far too visually busy and 'pixelly' for me making it nearly impossible to spot things and see where you're going... maybe that's more of a frame rate issue though as MW3 runs at a very smooth 60fps.

If you don't own MW2 already this is definitely a must-buy and I'd score it with a 9+
If you own MW2 then view this game as more of a technical and graphical along upgrade with 16 new maps and I'd give it a strong 8. You know what to expect before you play it.
If you own Black Ops already, then I think whilst familiar, MW3 is definitely head and shoulders above Black Ops and I'd rate it with a 8.5.

If you own BF3, then I think it would be a tough call to warrant buying this as well, although they are very different. To me MW3 feels much more like an adrenaline fuelled, arcade, high octane run and gun game and takes itself less seriously than certain other titles.

    Hope that helps!

Now, look at what made Half-Life 2 game of the decade, it did not really introduce anything new, but it fixed what was wrong with Half-Life. Half-Life's expansions added what was new, Half-Life 2 fixed everything that was wrong.

That was the issue with Modern Warfare 2, while Call of Duty 4 set the table and its expansions added new maps with new gameplay, that is what MW2 did, it did not fix anything, but it added new stuff. Infinity Ward fixed that, they did add new modes but they knew that to stay relevant in the video game biz, they needed to fix everything up.

They did add new modes, these modes were strikingly similar to other modes, yes, but the fine line of distinctions is what made them fun to play. Now I bet you in Modern Warfare 4 (they should drop Call of Duty, because that title is now Treyarch's), they will add new graphics and they will add more distinctions between the gameplay.

Look at everything they fixed: killstreaks, gameplay, audio, servers. You see, blame their work on MW2 for what is wrong, if they did their technique for MW3 on MW2, we would have seen a far better game, but does that stop MW3 from being a good game.

I mean even if they are just fixing everything, they took the time to add new features: many new modes, many new guns and the graphics run at 60 FPS. Lets go back to modes, they will add more distinctions in the next installment of Modern Warfare. I also expect Treyarch to do this as well with their next WW2 or Cold war game. Now to guns, every gun is the same, its just how you use it. Now to graphics, this is the hardest thing to get finished and make better, I bet you if they were to match the game's graphics up to lets say Uncharted 3, the IW Engine would overload and it would take them up to November 2012 to finish the game, they will advance the graphics for the next game, don't worry, but by adding 60 FPS they did do a good job on fixing the graphics that they already had.

Don't listen to the negative reviews, actually play the game for yourself.

When taken as a separate game apart from other call of duties, it would probably be one of the best games out there. Thrilling single player with epic set pieces shine in front of a sometimes confusing story. The action is really what matters though, and it is great. Fast, frenetic, and fun! Shooting is more realistic with a greater kickback in some guns, and faster more realistic kills. The Multiplayer remains just as fast paced, fun, and addicting as ever, and veterans of the series who are here for just multiplayer are sure to be happy. New modes and small additions like the leveling of separate guns are added, and this time around you'll have to reach level 80 to prestige; a great addition for those who don't want to prestige and just want to keep on leveling. The problem lies in the fact that this isn't a game separate from all of the other call of duties and its value suffers from it. After annual call of duties for over 5 years the core gameplay remains largely the same. No new innovations. Nothing is done to say, "Hey! This game is going to change the way we see the FPS genre!" Not every game has to do that, but since this is an annual game, it really hurts the value. If you haven't bought the other, much better, more innovative games that have come out this year like Skyrim, Zelda, Uncharted, Gears, Rayman, Infamous or whatever, do yourself a favor. Get those instead and make yourself a better gamer. Fact is, There's no good reason to buy this if you bought black ops last year, but if you caved, to play with friends like I did, then there's no doubt you are in for a wild ride, and hours of fun! Yes it's a very similar game to MW2, but that's because MW2 is a near perfect shooter (multiplayer). If your looking for a radical change go play something that sucks. They have made small but significant changes to balance the game play. it's dishonest to rate this game a two when you know full well your going to spend the next 4 months plays the s**t out of it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is mostly the same on both the 360 and the PS3 versions, but there are a few performance issues that must be noted.

The open microphone system in online multiplayer on the PS3 cuts in and out semi-frequently. It's not enough to make anyone inaudible, but it is a slight annoyance.

While the 360 boasts a whopping 60 frames per second, it feels and looks as if the PS3 is running at 45 to 50 fps. This isn't a huge deal, but if you notice the little details, you will notice this, though 45 frames would still be higher than most other games out in this category of modern first person shooters.

The online connection between players doesn't seem to be as good as that of the 360's version either for some reason, though, it is hardly noticeable. Once again, only someone with a sharp eye who lives and breathes gaming would notice this.

I still recommend this game whole-heatedly. Though, if you have the option to choose between owning it on the XBOX 360 or PS3, choose the 360 version. The slight differences make it worth choosing one over the other.

It is, however, filled with some great set pieces and good old shooting action that Call of Duty does so well. There's also a lot of content to be had in the special ops and multiplayer suites of the game which add a lot of replay value to the game. While it doesn't take any massive new leaps in the shooter genre, it's gameplay and controls are as fluid and fun as ever. The new survival mode, whilst not entirely original, works extremely well and is a welcome addition to the standard game modes on offer.
Modern Warefare 3, while not making massive leaps and bounds ahead of its predecessors, is still fresh enough and certainly addictive enough that I'll be playing this one for a while to come.

But in general the game is great and the graphique engine is better then previously. So its up to you.

I think it an immature disservice to the hard work of the staff at infinity ward, sledgehammer games, and raven software to simply write off MW3 with a one sentence review, and giving them a zero or a one; chances are you have not even played a few hours of the game yet, or given an opportunity to each of its modes. For those that are willing to invest a little more time, I think there is a plethora of replay value hidden with the MW3 world. Survival mode is a very welcome addition, not to mention the fun to be had with the standard levels of Spec Ops. Although I would have maybe preferred 4 player for the survival mode, the feeling that is derived from battling it out with just one friend of yours is still very satisfying and has a high replay value. Multiplayer does feel slightly familiar to me, and the maps a little bit too condensed, but the strike packages are a real refreshment, as well as the ability to unlock weapon perks. Every single game it feels like your character is progressing, which is a good feeling overall. I do feel the game really does still need some work though, as the spawning system is still heavily flawed (I don't know how many times an enemy somehow has spawned directly behind me so far); as well as the inability to do simple things like climb onto a car, or any other reachable surfaces. I have been running often times and stopped completely in my tracks because my characters right arm must have bumped into a small object, which is a nuisance. Lag is also a huge issue (unless your able to afford stellar internet), I am supposed to be getting 7-10 MB a second, but in some games the opposing player doesn't even look like they have fired yet on my screen but I magically die and fell like chucking my controller across the room. When I actually do have a solid ping connection, it seems to run like most call of duty games before it. Another minor grip that i feel that black-ops got right, was during objective based matches like domination, when you zoom in inline towards a point, the A, B, or C, should fade out in order allow your field of vision to be unaffected if searching for an enemy. As a final note, the new game modes are fun (kill confirmed and team defender), and a welcome change of pace. I have not played the single player campaign yet, so my comments are more strictly reserved for Spec Ops and Multiplayer. The spawning issues, in my opinion, could be averted if we had a few bigger maps to choose from, as each of them feel slightly too small for my tastes. Though the map size may feel great to the run and gunners, its not for everyone. All in all, I am still satisfied with my purchase, as I have enjoyed the Call of Duty formula since the original Modern Warfare. I own battlefield 3 as well and will go back and forth between these two games depending on what style of combat I want to engage in for the day. Expand

The campaign was superior but multi-player seems to be missing something. how ever the special ops mode was fun with missions and survival mode. still activitsion and the other respective developers need focus more on the game engine. the current game engine is been there far too long. i'd give it a 8 for the campaign.

I do believe technically, Battlefield 3 is superior. I also prefer the latter's focus in the campaign - of small teams of military professionals doing a job - even though this job is over the top and clearly stolen from the COD/MW scriptbook. After I finished BF3, I looked up the website of the US Marines, cuz the game made me respect what these guys do.
MW3 is more of a Jerry Bruckheimer rollercoaster ride, and combat feels more like the frantic actions you do in an arcade than on the battlefield. However, I think the execution and story are honed very much and delivered with confidence.
On its own merits, I would rate this game 9. However, the legal and personal issues of the developers and publishers demerit this game. As consumers, we will never know the real background of the conflict, but it is clear that many people were handled unjustly. I think it's wrong that people are marking down this game in these proportions, but it does serve to send a powerful signal that consumers have very keen sensitivities in regards to how a product and its people are being handled (despite the fact that this game has become the single most successful entertainment launch in history). Because after MW3, when talent is treated poorly, there may be a backlash like with the LA Noire team. So conclusion? Good game, but the gamers don't like your company. We did buy your game though - en masse. Maybe that says more of the gamers than of the developers and publishers.

The single player story however, looks great and is still interesting enough to make you want to play it.
But who's buying these simply for the campaign alone anyway? The multiplayer is the best out there, period. The framerate makes the game unmatched, yes even those who have supposedly introduced bigger and better engines (played 'the other guy' and didn't see what was so fabulous), along with the great upgrade system whereby you can truly make your playstyle your own. There is no 'right' or 'wrong' setup, but the one which works for you. The devs had said prior to release they're aiming at making it a gunbattle multiplayer moreso this time around and took out the complete dominance of airpower, and they did. The options are near limitless, and a lot of fun to explore. Then, the brilliant idea to keep the hook in: Elite. The fact that they're going to release one map per month is very smart, as what usually kills a game off is the lack of maps; I know it certainly is for me. Definite thumbs up there.

So that is two games in one, but we're still forgetting a third: Spec Ops. These are a lot of fun also and they've improved far beyond what MW2 offered, as you now level up separately in Spec Ops with the bonuses from the missions contributing to the Survival mode. Very cool idea. Again, they've beaten the pants off it's braggart competitor, BF3 in this regard. I played and beat all of the missions in BF3 with little effort in a few hours. To make matters worse, if you want to unlock all the in game bonuses, you're forced to play through the BF spec ops missions again and again and again...ugh.

The winner of that battle is clear cut, I believe. But this review isn't one game vs another (as they're two differing games that shouldn't be compared to begin with honestly, but I've drawn myself into the silly debate by offering my comments I suppose), it's about THIS game. To summarize: the single player mechanics are a letdown, as it's the same formula but the story is still fun to play through, which I recommend doing, especially if you've followed the series since the original MW. The multiplayer has ratcheted up the fun factor with a vast array of options, and the Spec Ops is well done, with both missions and survival mode. Giving this game a bad review simply isn't honest.
Proves the old adage though, that when you're king of the hill everyone either loves you or hates you.

Well done, IW/Activision, I look forward to the next one. :)

    Now:
Spec Ops, is probably the most disappointing aspect in my eyes. I found it lacked the same addictive style of It's dead counterpart 'Zombies' and also didn't promote the same kind of camaraderie between friends, featuring only 2 players. I found the decision to make one players death end the game add a bit too much stress to those who like to play as a lone wolf within a group so to speak, and after the first 15 rounds began to become a bit repetitive. I praise the new leveling system however, it adds longevity to Spec Ops, however I don't feel the content is strong enough to hold the leveling system.
The campaign is not too shabby, the story line is not great but anyone who played 15 seconds of any Modern Warfare game knows Infinity Ward never intended it to be an emotional ride with depth and psychology. The levels are larger, not repetitive, and the action sequence are explosive as ever. Nothing incredibly knew here but we all get the feeling the campaign is merely a distraction to the beast that is CoD: Multiplayer. The campaign takes only a few hours, and whilst I wouldn't by the game solely for it, I find it to be a decent time waster and quite the thrill ride. The graphics DO look marginally better, explosions and gunfire audio have also been improved. In campaign and multiplayer, despite the hilarity of it all, you do feel like you are in a battlefield.
Most importantly, the Multiplayer aspect. The Multiplayer is excellent and a massive improvement on any other CoD so far. The maps are particularly good, despite the somewhat dull names. If you want to snipe, windows are littered over every map. Want to rush? Multiple flanking routes tube through each map. Want to camp? There are plenty of places to take cover. Want to get a multi-kill explosion? Each map is bursting with cars and flammable barrels.
The weaponry is also much better than expected, plenty of new things added here, and improvements made upon the older ones. No gun feels weak, in fact all are insatiably powerful, and the upgrade system is excellent. In the other CoD's, I'd find myself bumping up my killstreaks, earning points/ XP and just buying what I wanted at the right level. In MW3 if you want rapid fire, then you better buckle down and earn it by getting a fair few kills with that gun. It really gives the player incentive to try every single gun and Fleshes out the use you can get from them. The recoil and bullet impacts add a flash a realism to CoD, which is something most players aren't used to. If someone shoots you, you will immediately die. If you try and pop someones head from the other side of the map with the assualt rife, you will have a hard time due to the harsh recoil. Want to solve it? Get good with the gun and unlock the 'Kick' proficiency to reduce recoil. Raising the level cap was a better idea, with the prestige icons not looking too inspiring however this is outdone by the new prestige shop, in which you can spend one token each prestige, to purchase something extremely useful. Such as carrying a weapon over into your next prestige, to prevent working for it again, and even giving yourself 2 hours double XP to help you rush through those prestige's to get to the top even quicker!
Two new game modes have been added, Team Defender and Kill confirmed. Kill Confirmed being the game where you must collect Dog Tags from fallen enemies in order to register the score, or collect Dog Tags from dead team mates to deny your enemies the kill!.. All in all I was not majorly impressed but I found it to be a fresh addition Team Defender, however, is quite brilliant and hectic. It's a normal TDM however, a neutral flag appears on the map after the first kill, and players must rush to hold it for there team to get double points. The enemy will be shown on the map whilst they are holding the flag, meaning when you have it, you're going to have 6 people in your ass. All people in the game spawn near the flag after dying, meaning the battle is constant, and crazy and is always moving around the map.
So, with the weak Spec Ops mode, a decent campaign but a perfect Multiplayer earn this game an 8 in my eyes. If more effort was put into Spec Ops, I'd edge towards a 9 or ten but in my eyes it brought it down a point or two.
Thank you for your time, if you want a good FPS multiplayer experience, head to your shop and buy CoD!

This game is very similiar to past iterations of MW. The single player is as good as mw1 and the sepcial ops are better than mw2 as you can now play online. You also get to level up as in multiplayer. As for mutliplayer I've never been a great fan as you sometimes feel like you runaround like a chicken with no head. I would say it's pretty much the same as before. All i all no a bad game

The Infinity Ward engine hasn't updated much since CoD 4 but what most don't understand the 60 fps essentially separates the engine from most FPS on a console. The campaign as always is extremely linear not giving the player much freedom to roam and discover. Survival is fun with a friend but what surprises me is the lack of 4 player co-op. Major let down from Sledgehammer and IW. Multiplayer is addicting as the previous titles. I myself found many similarities from MW2 in MW3. Call it MW2.5 or over priced down loadable content it is the Modern Warfare 2 we've always wanted it to be. Balanced! Not much has changed but it's a definite improvement. In some aspects it lacks creativity. The multiplayer maps are claustrophobic and out of the 16 maps shipped with the game you seem to only cycle through seven of the same maps. These development studios aren't to blame for a game that feels literally rushed and unfinished. Activision sole purpose is to deliver a new CoD title every holiday season/every year. Gamers knew exactly what they were getting themselves into when they purchased this game. If you expected anything more than what it is your decision purchasing the game and being disappointed is your fault. Do some research before purchasing a title or at least rent the game, so on and so on. What frustrates me is I know so many people that made it clear to me that this is one of the worst games ever made and how they feel robbed but continue to play the game as if they somewhat enjoyed it? I'm left confused by the community or their intensions to totally destroy a video game in the first place. Overall the game is fun but it dosen't reinvent the genre or improve much to take it to the next level. The game deserves a 8.5. Anything less is a representation of a immature community. If you want to play Skyrim well then go play it without insulting a franchise that is in a completely different genre. Expand

Ok, sometimes it had a few boring moments but there were also a lot of action and "OMFG"-moments. The Spec Ops - Mission mode is almost the same as the one from MW2 but only with new missions. But Spec Ops - Survival mode is really brilliant! I had a lot of fun playing it and it will really make me come back for more. Then the multiplayer, although it's almost the same multiplayer as MW2, the multiplayer isn't bad like everyone says. Infinity Ward has put a lot of cool new innovations in the MP like the weapon level-up, new multiplayer modes (i love Team Deathmatch - Kill Confirmed) and so much more. Ok, so the game isn't a lot different as Modern Warfare 2, but so what, everyone loved Modern Warfare 2? Why than hate Modern Warfare 3? I personally have only played the first 36% of the campaign and found it as average as the last games, but where it really shines is its Online Multiplayer and Special Ops. Special Ops has an option of two modes, Survival and Missions. The missions are an arcade-esque version of the game and are fairly engaging. Survival, however, is the cream of the crop. I always found the Zombie modes of previous COD titles exciting, but there was no real strategic element or tactics other than 'lapping.' Survival brings these missing elements from Zombies and creates a great challenge that will constantly keep you coming back for more. The Online multiplayer has taken a fair amount of stick but seriously, what were people expecting? They have incorporated the best of all the previous titles and presented it in a way that is not at all different to previous episodes. People complain about the maps, and the guns; but really 16 interesting and different maps, varying in size, environment, and combat style make for an exciting experiences. They included the split screen online multiplayer as well. In summary, a great game. Not the revolution some people where expecting, but certainly worth buying if youre a fan of the series. I particular by ridiculous kill streaks, over powered weapons and bad campaigns. However, after hearing good things I decided to give it a try and I was pleasantly surprised. Sure it looks old and a lot (and I mean A LOT) is simply recycled material från MW and MW2 (whole buildings and environments) but I do like it. It actually creates a feeling of nostalgia, and they've managed to bring out a lot of the best of the two previous MW iterations. I consider CoD4 to be the best FPS I've ever played regarding both campaign and multi player, and this recalls some of the memories. MW3 doesn't reach the same heights - too much is recycled and you can never top the original without being original yourself - but this is what MW2 should have been like. And the quick pace, quick weapon reaction that has been CoD:s trademark is still impact. The story is fast paced and we get an end to the cheesy WWIII scenario. Nothing too deep. But it executes well where you feel the interaction most of the time. On veteran it's not as challenging as for example Black Ops. As a matter of fact it's rather easy. The infinite re-spawn isn't as ridiculous. But still, the few spots where you have to man for example a machine gun and get hide nor drop it as hordes of enemies storm towards you, can still be frustrating. And from time to time you get pushed around by your stupid allies (who wont recognize an enemy standing next to them), run in to a few invisible walls and are being re-spawned in cross-fire that kills you before you even get a chance to prone. The pointless collection of intel is of course also still there (would be so hard to let us get for example a new perk, weapon or such for it?). The multi player has improved and thanks to a new perk system is more versatile. The new (yet copied from other games) "Kill confirmed" adds a new dimension. Some of the maps remind me of (and are most probably recycled from) old MW and MW2 maps. Which is a good thing, because most maps are actually quite good with some nice variation. They don't feel as similar as the did on MW2 most of the times and not as anonymous and dull as Black Ops was most of the time. Not to forget special ops, with the new Survival mode. Best played with two players, it feels like something that will last for some time. There are some 16 or 20 maps and they can offer quite some resistance at veteran. All in all a good game. Major flaws are the outdated graphics, yet another rather short campaign (though mostly well executed) and the fact that nothing much is new. Even though you recycle a lot of good old stuff, when creating a new game there should be more innovation present. But I will most likely be playing this a lot the coming year or two. Expand

Im reviewing this based off the three game choices you are given at the main title screen; Spec Ops, Campaign, and Multiplayer. Im also comparing this game to Modern Warfare 2, not Call of Duty Black Ops, because Black Ops was not made by infinity ward. For Spec Ops, the game has two modes of play, Survival and missions. The missions are short and sweet, lasting around 5 to ten minutes long, depending on difficulty choice and other factors. The Survival mode is where you progressively fight waves of enemies in the form of ways in similar ways to the "zombies mode" in black ops. You get a variety of weapons to choose from and a disappointing amount of perks and and air support choices, unfourtantely. Spec ops survival mode lets you rank up, so it gives you that "achievement fix" people crave, and all the maps are the multiplayer maps, so you become aware of what each map is like for when you switch to multiplayer. The downside is, if you have played the other call of duty games, you will notice that all of the maps have this "cut and paste" feeling. You will feel like "i remember this hallway, or this grassy area looks familiar, or this snow level seems the same as the last game". But where spec ops really shines is having your girlfriend (or friend, for you forever alones) sit next to you and play survival together, able to look at the screen below you and know you got someone watching your back. Moving on to the campaign: Im just going to simplify this for you, If you never played any modern warfare before, the story is going to not make much sense to you, but they do offer a little cutscene to try to make sense of it. also, theres going to be a large amount of moments that are considered so over the top that you might think its really cool, or your like me and get bored of it because its simply ridiculous. For you Veteran players out there, this one is easier than black ops, not as hard as mw2. it has the simple formula of tap L1, shoot people, get shot, hid in cover for a few seconds to regenerate health. chances are you will probably die from a car explosion, because they only seem to blow up when you get close to them -_-. so be wary of tires on fire! that means its going to blow up. Onto multiplayer: As i mentioned before, you can play all the multiplayer maps on spec ops to get a feel for them so you dont get lost or wander aimlessly, but if you jump right into multiplayer (which is what i did), you will be confused, most likely. But the game is mostly similar to mw2 with improvements that make it feel like a DLC more than a full on new game. Notable improvements are the revamped killstreak system, now called point system. any time you kill someone, capture a flag, plant a bomb, take out a helicopter etc you get a point. Also there are 3 types of killstreak packages to choose from (with different types of killstreaks to earn). The first is the Strike Package, which is your standard cod killstreak idea, where you try to kill as many people you can before you die, and the streak ends. the support package, is the same but when you die your killstreak doesnt end, it carries over and you can still get that EMP you have always wanted :] . the third is the specialist strike package, this operates like the strike package, where when you die, it restarts. But instead of getting a UAV or a Helicopter, you get perks. so two kills you would get sleight of hand on the spot, or whatever you choose. Another improvement is that the guns have their own weapon proficiency, which levels up the more you use it, unlocking perks for the gun like focus, which is less recoil, or two attachments or impact which is like the fmj, or even longer range or more damage(like stopping power). these are seperate from the guns sights and attachments etc. Another change is 90% of the guns are new, which is good, and now the shotgun is a primary weapon like COD4, and the riot shield is back. Also, stopping power isnt a perk, its a weapon profficency and its the last one so your not really going to die as fast, and danger close is gone, commando is gone, and it always takes to noob tube hits to kill someone unless its a direct hit. where the game goes south is the spawn system. more often then not you will be spawned to feet behind, on the side, or in front of an enemy , and dying for stupid reasons. also, there is no cover, no where is safe. if you had a dedicated buddy he could cover your back, but thats a rare thing. What i recommend is you rent this game, see if you wanna keep it, then buy it. i rented it for 4 days and did not purchase. but its not a zero or a 2.8, its an 8 Expand

MW3, despite being very accomplished, and indeed a great deal of fun, nonetheless seems to be lacking in distinct features over previous iterations of COD. As such, I feel 8 to be a fair score, it's still a marvelous package for the price, the one player may not be to my exact tastes, but the hours you can pass online certainly make up for this.
A few issues would relate to this said multiplayer experience. While I love that they have introduced a less one track focus for streaks and bonuses in the online games (support, assault etc), there still remain some issues.
Primarily for someone like myself, the lack of a buffer from the seriously good players out there when you first boot up the game can be very frustrating. You feel as though your experience of death, respawn, death respawn is never ending at times. Equally, added to this can be the occasionally ridiculous levels of killstreak bonuses people pick up. To have to think carefully about one attack helicopter can provide a refreshing amount of strategic thought to a match... to have tons of things in the air shooting and bombarding the hell out of you you as you spawn provides a sort of random anarchy that makes you feel no matter your skill you are going to perish at this point in the game.
Anyway, to end on a more positive note. Undoubtedly a very good game indeed, for both fans of the series, and to those looking to either delve in to marathon online sessions or just dip in and out. Not the freshest game out there given it doesn't move mountains to evolve after COD: BO, but probably more an indictment of how good this series has been at providing a slightly arcadey FPS experience for the past few years.

There are also those who absolutely love this game because it's a Call of Duty game. For me, I bought the game having nothing against the Call of Duty series, mainly because I never play any of the games unless my friends are. This means that my score for this game will not be affected by the terms listed above. First, the Campaign mode. The campaign mode is the same as you've probably already predicted... It's action-packed, the screen is loaded with explosions, and there are tons of vehichle sections. I personally found nothing wrong with the story except for the predictability of it, the fact that the Ranger squad from Modern Warfare 2 doesn't make an appearance, and how short it is. I ended up beating this Campaign in around 5 hours on Regular and 8 hours on Veteran. The main problems of the Campaign come from the terrible AI that remains unchanged from all of the Call of Duty games. The AI will always know where you are and will stop at nothing to stop your progress... Which would be fine if you weren't supposedly controlling some average soldier. Instead of worrying about your teammates that are only a few meters away, they will always focus their fire on you. However, there are many exciting set pieces in the campaign that can make up for some of these problems. The Spec Ops has two different gameplay modes, both of which are very fun and addictive. Survival mode is a mode in which you do your best to survive increasingly difficult waves of enemies, such as dogs, suicide bombers, juggernauts, and chemical agents. In order to survive these enemies, you must go to the three terminals which allow you to buy and upgrade weapons, place traps, call in airstrikes, or buy defensive equipment... But there is a drawback however. In this mode you start with only a few of these options, upgrades, and weapon varieties, and to unlock more you must increase your Spec Ops level. I also found it slightly disappointing that you can only play with up to two players in this mode, instead of four players. The mission mode has returned and it comes with a great amount of variety. In one mission you have to disarm bombs, in another you can control juggernauts, and in my favorite mission one player controls sentry guns in order to help the other player reach the objective in time. These modes require much more thinking and cooperation than the rest of the game and it's a welcome return in my book. And finally, the main aspect of the game... the multiplayer portion. The general Call of Duty gameplay has returned, but only with a few additions and changes. The new multiplayer has introduced Strike Packages, which allow you to change the way your killstreaks work, there is Assault (The regular old-style system that has been used since COD4), Support (Used to support your team and your killstreak doesn't reset), and Specialist (You get perks instead of Killstreak rewards). They also added a new weapon proficiency system, where you have to level up your weapons to get your attatchments, camos, RD sights, and so on. And of course, they added new perks along with all of the perks that you'd expect to see in any Call of Duty game (Scavenger, Sleight of Hand). Also, playing the objective of the game mode or destroying enemy killstreaks will add to your killstreaks, as well as shooting at people. Other than that and a couple new gameplay modes, that's just about all the gameplay changes in this game. The melee system still has major issues, the spawning is terrible, and camping is just about the easiest way of getting kills. Any weapon that had balance issues before (UMP, Scar, ACR) is back and is still overpowered. The lag in this game is unbelievable at certain times (Sometimes it would skip every 5 seconds). And the multiplayer community doesn't help any of these issues either, instead they choose to exploit these issues... Doing anything possible to win. However, the multiplayer is still addictive at certain times despite all of these flaws... Especially when playing with friends. Overall, this game was fun but was held back a little bit by some of its flaws, especially on the Campaign and its acclaimed multiplayer. These flaws didn't make the game terrible, but they did make the game not as good as the previous Modern Warfares. But, if you are a person who is completely trashing the game and giving it a brutally low score... Just remember, the game was made in around a year. You can't expect to shove an insane number of changes in a videogame formula in under a year and even if you did, it would be even more laggy and unplayable than it is now. So in the end, Infinity Ward did a decent job, so their game gets a decent score: an 8/10 Expand

The multiplayer however, is a different story. It's a mixed bag for me since while the maps and guns aren't as good as in MW2, everything else (which there is) is greatly improved. I'd be hard-pressed to call this an expansion pack but then comes the spec ops with survival mode which would be better with 4 people, and the other spec ops missions are a BLAST. So while I say it's no MW2, that's like saying that a trillion dollars is no blowjob from the girl of your dreams while you're high on acid and swimming in a pool of liquefied gold yet not burning. From the story, to the frantic easy pick up and play co-op and competition multiplayer (which can also be challenging to veteran players) can make the game last quite a long time. Graphics wise, there is not much improvement, but still looks great nonetheless, sounds have been upped a bit and are very nice. In my opinion, people are being very over-reactive about this game. A 1 hit knife strike shouldn't kill a player while they are getting shot by a gun.

All that being said, it is a fun and satisfying game. There are a lot of negative reviews on here, which is actually comical. Yes it uses the same engine as previous games, but they have added many new features and modes which make the game enjoyable.

I also know that these games are created for the online/multiplayer/cooperative play community. Online, multiplayer, cooperative play has never interested me, and though the single-player campaign in MW3 is short, it is good - fast paced and fun. I mainly play war games as an "in-between". After playing longer, more involved games (i.e. RPGs) I enjoy playing a snack-sized game that doesn't require a whole lot of commitment or time. Once I'm done, I'm again ready to take on something with more substance. In all, this game delivers what was expected: good graphics, tight controls, and a whole lotta killing in a snack-sized portion. Sign me up for MW4. Expand

Well, I'm happy to report that while it certainly has its flaws (We'll get to that later) Modern Warfare 3 is a well executed, well crafted first-person shooter that is a worthy sucessor to MW2. The story picks up where the last Modern Warfare left off, after suffering defeat in their failed attempt at invading the united states the Russians launch an all out invasion of Europe. Now, members of The United States Military and Task Force 141 must find a way to prevent global armageddon. The story, while it is so convaluted (Russia could never invade the US!) it is still entertaining as hell, it provides closure for the trilogy (No cliffhanger this time) and provides for some epic cinematic set pieces. The game still runs on an excellent 60 frames per second, which adds to the silky smooth feel of the controls. You're either a fan of this gameplay by now or you're not. The campaign still features excellent variety, one moment you'll be providing cover for a squad in an AC-130 and in another you'll be tearing up enemies in a UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle), these stop the game from feeling repettitive and makes it fun to play. Along with the campaign that'll take you around 4-6 hours to complete, you also get a revamped Spec-Ops mode, which now includes a survival mode where you along with another player try to survive against endless waves of enemies weilding weapons (No zombies here if that's what you were hoping for). While it isn't nearly as awesome as Zombies, it is still a blast to play. The Spec Ops missions are also really well done, and are fun to play through multiple times. The level design in the single player, special- ops mode/survival mode, and the multiplayer is exceptional and is a step up from the previous Modern Warfare games. So I've mentioned the positives, now it's time to talk about the negatives. While the graphics engine isn't terrible per se, it looks really bad in some parts of the game. Multiple times I saw texture pop ins and small glitches. Come on guys, we live in a post- Battlefield 3 era and they are honestly trying to say that this is the best that they could do?! Even the most hardcore Call Of Duty fan cannot deny how goregous Battlefield 3 looks, but here when I look at MW3's graphics it makes me feel like I traveled back in time to the stone age of gaming. It also makes me feel like I'm playing an expansion pack for Modern Warfare 2 instead of a full fledged sequel. The multiplayer (Which is the reason a lot of people play these games) while definately a step up from the unbalanced MW2, still has a number of overpowered weapons and death streaks. Add that in with the number of camping spots and you are sure to have some fustrating matches. It was clear that when around 40 staff left Infinity Ward that Modern Warfare 3 was going to take a hit, and in some areas it does. While it is still worth full price, this entry WILL NOT win over anybody who hates this franchise with a passion. Here's hoping that Black Ops 2 will restore the franchise to it's former glory and change-up the familiar COD formula. Expand

The weapons and upgrades are well done but I still don't think the guns sound realistic. Every FPS developer should learn from Ubisoft when it comes to making realistic gun sounds. Take the M4 in this game for instance. What the f is that all about???? It sounds like a mix between a 50 caliber machine gun and some sort of heavy cannon on a gun ship. Yo, it's an assault rifle so that means, like all assault rifles, it should sound like a friggin RIFLE!!. Anyways, giving this game a score below 6 is just silly unless you are comparing it to Black Ops. By the way, Black ops is still not a perfect game because the single player campaign's story idiotic. An escape from a Russian gulag?? Why? Fighting Germans?? Why not just leave the thing in Vietnam? Anyways, youv'e got to take into account the dogdy FPS shooters out there before giving this game a zero or something like that. To start with, the improvements Modern Warfare 3 made from Black Ops, at least on the PS3 version, are staggering. After playing close to probably 500 matches on multiplayer, I can say that the connection in multiplayer is perfect compared to my connection in Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2. In the 500 matches I've played, I've had games end only a hand-full of times, which is far more than I can say for Black Ops. Host-migration always goes through without the game ending, again there is only a hand-full of times where it did not go through. Me and most of the 50 people in our clan agree that MW3 is far better than the PS3 version of Black Ops. No more do we have to try 5 times to get into a lobby with everyone there, or to have to re-invite people that mysteriously disappear when we back out. Playing with my clan is SO easy in MW3 with the integration of Call of Duty Elite. Elite is an absolute God-send for clans. It also adds another reason to play, with clan ops. The addition of Elite, and vast improvement in connectivity could have me saying that MW3's multiplayer is the best I've played. If it wasn't for the maps. My. Gosh. Do the maps in MW3 disgrace the lineage of COD4, and even disgrace MW2 AND Black Ops, and I'm not even talking about the DLC. The dumbest move Infinity Ward made in development of MW3 is out-sourcing the map designs to Sledgehammer. All those brilliant map designs that made MW2 so fun, and even Black Ops, are gone in this game. Whatever happened to map designs like Terminal? And Afghan? And FAVELA!? And what about huge open maps like Wasteland? It's all street combat, and not even, all the maps are just a bunch of hallways, there's no open areas. The DLC maps disgrace MW3's OWN maps. They're confusing as all hell, and yes there are open maps, but they're circular in shape in so there's tons of flanking, and if that's not the case, the maps are cluttered with obstacles so there's no real long-range sniping in any of the maps. I've never even used a legitimate sniper class except to have fun with MW3's Intervention, the MSR. Speaking of a gun, the guns in this game are much improved. Personally, I hated the guns in Black Ops. If you were not good at run-n-gun with rapid fire, you were **** out of luck. The FAMAS was quite simply...you know what, I can't even talk about the Black Ops multiplayer because it LAGGED SO BAD! The M16 was useless because of the lag, that's how bad it was. Anyway, because this game is more geared for clans, I find myself using an anti-air class with an LMG. The LMGs have been improved so MUCH from any of the previous games. The MK42 is one of my favorite guns. I have a dedicated LMG class for when I play with my clan. The BF3 beta got me hooked on using a support class, and so it was awesome to be able to do the same in MW3. I don't know where the multiplayer ranks among Cod games, but it's pretty well done. I can not say the same thing about the campaign though. The gameplay in the campaign is awful, it is so boring, and all the missions are tight, enclosed spaces, just like the maps in multiplayer. The only objective in the entire campaign is to follow the leader, essentially. Everything is so scripted, and every 5 seconds you have to wait until something happens so you can move forward. Everything is so innately linear about it, that exploring has absolutely no purpose. You might as well not even have objectives either, because it's impossible to move on without completing them. However, some of the levels break the mold and are awesome to play, but then the next level goes back to being boring again. It's very easy to see that the problem is that the COD series needs more imagination. If you go back and play COD1, you will find a completely different game, it will blow your mind the changes that have occurred since then, i.e. the Eder Dam, for instance. Overall, and you can see this in the entire game, Call of Duty needs to do something completely different. I've played hundreds of hours in this game, but I don't want to do the same thing again come next November, i.e. Black Ops 2. Expand

There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.
