The biggest issues for me are the sheer amount of loading screens and the game getting off to a bit of a slow start but positives include better gun gameplay when compared to Fallout 4 & 76, The sidequests I've played thus far feel much more fleshed out compared to previous Bethesda titles, the pick locking and persuasion systems have been improved drastically and whilst I'm not denying that others may have had issues with the game's performance on PC, Starfield has run well for me and I've come across a small number of bugs but nothing even remotely close to game-breaking. But there are clips online which show people having problems getting this game to run well so I don't want you to necessarily take my word for it, I'm just providing you with my experience. I've been very much enjoying the shipbuilding and whilst it is quite janky and can be refined, designing and customising ships is a blast and I'm glad the game allows you to design ships as wacky as you want. The actual ship combat is okay but I've never really been into flying games so I don't feel as though I can give an honest assessment of how good it is.

I've not played around with the outpost system too much but I've seen some reviews question the point of building outposts, which is kind of baffling to me considering outposts allow you to passively harvest resources so they do have a usage but even so it's a fun inclusion being able to have a sprawling network of bases across the universe and station followers and let's player get creative, trying to build the most extravagant base. Plus it is nice to have somewhere to decorate with loot and items you've collected in your playthrough. At the end of the day, it's cool, it doesn't need to have a point (even though it does).

What grabbed me the most was the world-building, the lore, the characters, and the story. I'm still of the mindset that Bethesda will never be able to top the worldbuilding in the Elder Scrolls but I'm loving it so far in Starfield.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Loading Screens are here and there, not a big issue and you need to stay in line that this is not a Simulator but only a game setted on space
NPC faces and some animations are kind of outdate

The game is enough good to be a Must Play, lacks of some features and the engine can be outdate but the rest of aspects gives you a good experience, If you loved skyrim and fallout series you will love Starfield... and wait!! Mods are comming to give us years and years of gameplay.

My #3 sandbox RPG of all time up there with Skyrim #2 and Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys sandbox RPG where you are left to do what ever you want without holding your hand or egging you to complete the main quest line. If you are an on-rails RPG kind of gamer, then this may not be for you. This is also NOT a space simulation.

Starfield, Bethesda's highly anticipated spacefaring RPG, has finally launched, and it's safe to say that the game's storyline is its shining star. Set in a sprawling and mysterious universe, Starfield takes players on an epic journey through the cosmos, delivering an unforgettable narrative experience that's out of this world.

From the moment you step into the boots of our protagonist, you're thrust into a richly crafted universe filled with intriguing characters, ancient mysteries, and political intrigue. The storytelling in Starfield is a masterclass in world-building, with each corner of the galaxy brimming with history, lore, and a sense of wonder. Bethesda has once again demonstrated their prowess in creating immersive open worlds, and in this case, open galaxies.

The central narrative of Starfield revolves around a quest to unlock the secrets of a mythical spaceship known as the "Starlancer." As players delve deeper into the story, they'll uncover a web of conspiracies, rival factions, and unexpected alliances. The narrative keeps you engaged throughout your interstellar odyssey, with unexpected twists and morally complex decisions that truly make you feel like you're shaping the destiny of the universe.

One of the standout features of Starfield's storytelling is the diverse cast of characters you'll encounter. Each NPC has their own backstory, motivations, and unique personality, making the universe feel alive and dynamic. The dialogue system, a trademark of Bethesda RPGs, offers a myriad of choices that can significantly impact the storyline and your relationships with key characters. Building alliances or creating rivalries with different factions adds depth and replayability to the narrative.

Visually, Starfield is a breathtaking spectacle. The attention to detail in crafting alien worlds, space stations, and spacecraft is nothing short of impressive. The game seamlessly transitions between planetary exploration and deep-space travel, giving players a sense of the vastness and beauty of the universe.

While the story is undoubtedly the game's strongest aspect, it's not without a few minor hiccups. Some players may find certain side quests and activities somewhat repetitive, but these are easily forgiven given the grandeur of the main narrative.

In conclusion, Starfield's storyline is its crowning achievement, offering an engrossing and immersive space adventure filled with intrigue, discovery, and memorable characters. Bethesda has successfully ventured into the cosmos, delivering a captivating narrative that will keep players hooked for hours on end. If you're a fan of epic, open-world RPGs with a focus on storytelling, Starfield is a must-play title that promises to be a space epic for the ages.

The NPCs still feel lifeless and robotic, reciting lines with the enthusiasm of a malfunctioning voice assistant. Side quests? Sure, if by "side quests" you mean a never-ending list of repetitive tasks that make you question your life choices. The AI? Still as baffling as ever. Enemies that sometimes just stand there, letting you shoot them point-blank, or allies who become obstacles in narrow hallways.

Graphics? Well, they're typical Bethesda – sometimes breathtakingly beautiful, but often marred by janky animations and the odd graphical glitch that catapults you into the stratosphere.

Their crafting system, while expansive, feels tacked on and unnecessarily convoluted, like they're trying to give the illusion of depth where there isn’t any. And let's not forget the lore inconsistencies that would make any long-time fan scratch their head in confusion.

In conclusion, it's the same old Bethesda experience - vast yet shallow, ambitious yet buggy. One day, I hope they’ll surprise me, but today is not that day.

I've been traversing different galaxies for a thrilling 29 hours, lost among the stars. Akila City has become my newfound sanctuary. I find solace in the music and the rugged atmosphere of this sandy outpost. One evening, while sipping a drink at a local bar, I peruse the numerous reviews of Starfield, and it's almost surreal. Is it odd that I lose myself in the cosmos, finding genuine joy in exploration?

My mind often drifts back to the days of Fallout 4, but Starfield has rekindled that same sense of wonder and excitement. It's been ages since I woke up in the morning with a video game on my mind, but Starfield has reignited that passion. The music, the enthralling side quests, and the engaging gameplay, it all coalesces seamlessly. Sure, the menus in space might be a tad overwhelming, but overall, I'm in my element!

I can't help but feel that Bethesda has outdone themselves with this one. Starfield has not only captured my attention but also my heart, much like Oblivion and Skyrim did in the past. It's a testament to the enduring magic of immersive worlds and captivating narratives. Bethesda, thank you for bringing back the kind of gaming experience I thought was long gone.

TLDR; Starfield is definitely a big step up since the last games Bethesda have put out. It's not technological marvel or anything revolutionary, but it is very good space RPG experience (not a simulator). Starfield is not perfect and ITLDR; Starfield is definitely a big step up since the last games Bethesda have put out. It's not technological marvel or anything revolutionary, but it is very good space RPG experience (not a simulator). Though, I must point out that since release of Baldur's Gate 3, the bar for great RPG experience or even game experience have been upped significantly. Starfield is not perfect and I can't justify more than 8 as at the end, it's same old BGS experience, for better or worse.

Narrative wise, it is far superior to it's recent predecessors and gameplay wise, slightly on par with Fallout 4, better with gunplay but relatively worse than Skyrim in exploration. Quests narratives I find very subjective. Some might like Starfield quests more than Skyrim's or Fallout 4's. I find myself enjoying some quests more, some less, but overall, they're pretty enjoyable, but definitely not S tier type of writing or plots. Bethesda did put lot more work in companions which is very noticeable compared to almost one dimensional followers in Skyrim or Fallout 4 with only exception of Serana from Skyrim's Dawnguard DLC. It's might be fair to say, they did learn their lesson with Serana and improved it. Though, they still struggle with face animations with all NPCs which is very noticeable when you spend most of the time talking. Compared to other recent releases, Bethesda is still stuck in old gen. Graphically, It's pretties game they made (which shouldn't be a surprise) and generally a good looking game graphically and artistically. BGS never disappoints with their hand crafted locations, which then brings us to now procedural stuff. In short - it's underwhelming. There is almost no reason to justify to stray of course of any quest to land on random, procedurally generated planet tile when there's almost nothing to do. Most planets are empty which shouldn't be a surprise as space is well... empty. But content wise, there is almost nothing to do besides running to one point of interest to another which are all randomly placed. They often repeat and provide only resources which is fine but gets boring very fast. Also what villain in Bethesda decided to cut vehicles from game? The only times I found myself landing on planets is to gather lacking resources or to build outpost, other than that, it's boring and sometimes tedious experience. Another flaw can be seen with spaceships - there's not much stuff do with them except having random encounters, few dog fights and fast travel. It's really underwhelming when you can't do much with Spaceships when game offers such a great spaceship building system which easily can become addictive and huge time sink. I found myself enjoying Starfield when playing as I've played any other BGS game - doing quests and just doing whatever I want in general. You're not pressured to do spaceship stuff if you don't want to, you're not obliged to explore all 1000 planets and you're not forced to finish main quest or any quest if you don't like them or want to switch to other. Hell, I'd say Starfield offers much more freedom in this regard then any previous titles. Overall game is solid experience and should be played at least once if you're RPG fan or BGS games fan, though I'd warn against picking this game up if you expect space sim, which will leave you terribly disappointed. It's Narrative explorative RPG through and through with it's short comings but with very big strengths.

9/10 Expand

I can't stop playing this game. This is the best RPG I have played in years. The ability to go from planet to planet and explore is so much fun. The gunplay is surprisingly good. The game has so many great gameplay systems and interesting quests. HIGHLY recommended!

It's on game pass, and steam. Space battles, pirates, ship building, side quests.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Loading screens are insane, there's no vehicles because the boundaries are so small, gunplay is meh (though some ID software touch is there), AI is bad. Game is boring though, main story boring, NG+ idea is great. If you want space exploration NMS is the game. If you want a good story BG3 is the game. If you want good combat AC6 is your game. Starfield is just a mix of "meh", "good" things sprinkled in with some extremely bad design decisions, like the whole UI.

Not to mention it's basically unplayable on a Nvidia/Intel rig without mods, And no Todd i don't think I have to upgrade from my 13700k/4080 ROG Strix rig. I think dev's need to stop supporting AMD's terrible solution to DLSS and then blaming the consumer when it doesn't work. This bumps it down from a 7 to a 6 at least for the PC port.

Starfield feels and plays just like any other Bethesda Game. Not being able to explore the Planets like it was promised is super dissapoiting.

    pros
    - Good voice acting
    - Pretty Skybox
    - good sidequest

    cons
    - boring exploration
    - Terrible looking Npc
    - Lack of Animals on each Planet
    - Terrible performance for those Graphics.

The game feels very outdated and very restricting. There's almost no reason to be in space and the gathering is so lazily designed that instead of actual rocks to mine they just look like little pimples on scattered about. Deceptive marketing was used to promote this game. They were selective with their review copies to make sure only those who would rate it positive got one.

The game is okay, but not much more. It doesn't live up to the hype. Generic Bethesda quests, the most fragmented space I've ever seen.

the ai, the enemies are not very reactive and are rarely a real threat and the companions sabotage you by only annoying you,
shooting in a city will have no repercussions, no one will wonder what is happening and the police will stay still, but if you steal a bowl they will come and give you a fine,
the shooting does its job, it's a step forward compared to the fallout,
melee combat, on the other hand, is not satisfying and the spongy nature of the enemies is felt too much
exploration, perhaps the most controversial thing in the game, the planets are separated by a loading, many are procedurally generated, others are not, the problem is that you find yourself changing planets too often, you spend more time in the menus than in the planets, and even the main planets, in addition to the cities, are essentially plains with some plants and animals but without anything truly unique, at most a few outposts which however reuse the same 2 assets in an almost ridiculous way, space exploration is useless and not very stimulating, you hardly find yourself exploring space and this also makes the creation of the ship superfluous, the game is a continuous rapid journey and loading between one city and another, even small things such as loading to enter internal areas are obsolete today,
longevity, the strong point of the game, hundreds of planets, quests and a lot of things to do, the problem with Starfield is that it does a lot of things but doesn't do anything really well, I don't see how this game is next gen and I don't understand how Todd Howard can say this game is well optimized on pc, you need a 2080ti to play the game at stable 60 FPS at 1080p, it's ridicolous how such a old game need such a hardware, and the graphics option are terrible, no texture quality, no gamma, no FPS lock, this game is honestly disappointing in almost every way

so disappointing, im done with bethesda, i cant believe they had so much money and so many years of development to make a great game and came out with this, now i have no faith in them making something good again

I can't believe that the worst thing about a "space game" is the space gameplay and navigation, very disappointed with everything.

This is one of the worst games I've played in recent times. I'm even too lazy to describe all the disadvantages of the game, its buggy, sluggishness. Bad graphics from 10 years ago. I won't sputter - play No Man's Sky or Mass Effect. I'm so glad I didn't buy this "game". Well Todd Howard calls it a game. Thanks torrents for letting me try to play this.

However, the game is extremely lazy and incompetent when it comes to other aspects, close to 3/10. This includes the story which is in my opinion 0/10 and the world building and level design. There IS SO MUCH that can be done in space, but the combat is barely different from fallout 4/76. Every conversation with NPCs results in a fetch quest. I s*it you not, in 1 hour in new atlantis I stumbled upon 5 different fetch quests including getting a coffee for a Janitor. What in the actual crap is this? The writers of this game are absolutely incompetent, it feels like a clone of the previous games writing-wise. And the role-playing aspects aren't improved upon since Fallout 3. In fact in FO3 you could role-play more effectively. The quest designers and writers need to be FIRED. The UI design IS ATROCIOUS. It gives me anxiety.
Finally as always, this game will be endless with mods. Mods will find creativity that bethesda writers and game designers don't have.

If you like a slow burn, a massive galaxy to explore, seemingly endless quests, good quality faction quests, and finding surprises around every corner, you’ll probably quite enjoy this.

It’s a solid game that I especially recommend to those who like Bethesda style RPGs, but I was initially disappointed—it didn’t give me the same sense of awe or a sense of urgency like Oblivion/Skyrim or Baldur’s Gate 3 did, though it’s a very different premise so I suppose it makes sense. Still, I’m having a blast playing it. I’ve put in over 50 hours and feel I’ve barely scratched the surface—it’s an enormous game with so many quests and options to branch out. For that alone it’s well worth it.

    Things I like:

    - Gorgeous settings with incredible attention to detail. You can feel the love the developers put into every hand-crafted explorable area. There are so many surprises too—some that made me laugh out loud.
    - The freedom to do whatever I want, go in any direction I want, with less hand holding than previous titles.
    - Ship and outpost customization.
    - The fast travel system. I didn’t want a space sim, so the way you can select your mission destination from the cockpit and go was a great design choice in my opinion that gives me the feeling of navigating through space.
    - The option to explore new worlds with the star map via the menu or through the navigation table on my ship works well and I find the system intuitive. Load screens take a couple of seconds and don’t bother me at all.
    - Discovering lore, loot, secrets, and quests by exploring new areas/worlds or overhearing NPC conversations.
    - Some of the writing and voice acting within the main/faction questlines is the best Bethesda has ever done.
    - Plays as smoothly at 1080p on my Xbox Series S as it does on my Ryzen 5 5600x/3070ti PC (graphics are better on PC of course)

    Things I don’t like:

    - The world’s graphics are beautiful, the characters and NPCs not so much.
    - It takes too long to feel invested in the game and story.
    - A diminished sense of high stakes. Some decisions do matter, and some choices have consequences, but for most questlines I don’t feel like my choices have any real impact.
    - Some of the NPC dialogue feels wooden and stilted, and some side quests feel like filler rather than purposeful.
    - Encumberment. I get overloaded so fast I have to leave a lot of loot behind and selling stuff requires I stop questing/exploring and returning to vendor. I don’t understand why Bethesda thought this would be a good idea. It’s the antithesis of fun.

I was torn between giving this an 8 or a 9, but I’ve settled on 9 because despite some flaws, it’s such a huge game world that caters to different play styles and it will have great replay value. That and for me, it’s been so much fun. Many hours of entertainment!

"It's unacceptable that they release such a bad game, with bugs throughout the entire game, ridiculous missions, planets that look like screensavers, no meaningful exploration, poor PC optimization, and the worst part is that I have an Xbox, and the bugs and optimization are still bad, maybe slightly better. A company that used to be so incredible has become the worst."

I really do not understand the low scores here. This game is different from other Bethesda game in that exploration is fundamentally different. This is an RPG with many deep questlines and many opportunities to play as who you want to be. There is an incredible amount of high quality content here and it is clear that a lot of love went into this game. Perhaps other players just need to spend more time with it or maybe they are just disappointed that its not no man's sky with a Bethesda game attached to it. I don't know. But overall the critic review average is definitely fair. There are some problems with the game (the segmented felling travel being the biggest offender here) but there is so much more that is of such high quality that I cannot fathom the low scores. I'd say anywhere between an 85 and a 90 is definitely fair for this one. In a year or two down the line YouTube is definitely going to be filled with Starfield retrospectives about what a good game this is and how people overreacted to it's downsides in their reviews. Yes, it has bugs, but they're not significant enough to ruin the experience. Initially, I was going to give it an 8 out of 10, but the facial expressions really bothered me, especially since I had just come from playing another RPG that handled them so well. Therefore, a 7/10 rating feels more appropriate to me.

In conclusion, it has its flaws, but if you like or love Bethesda games, you'll definitely enjoy it, making it worth the full price on PC. If you can play it with a pass, even better.

I hope City maps get added, if not by Bethesda then by some modders. Overall, great game that will definetly get better in the future, with help of Community or Bethesda itself. Expand

I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
