If you love getting lost in Bethesda open worlds, this game has a ton to uncover and explore. I came into it with middling expectations, and then I spent easily my first 40 hours or so just exploring the first couple of systems, and barely scratched the surface of what they contained. Eventually I had to just accept that this game is so vast, it cannot be explored fully in one playthrough. It is designed to overwhelm you, and to make you feel small. The narrative references all of my favorite classic sci-fi, and it is clearly made for that audience, so if you’re not a sci-fi fan, maybe it’s not for you, but if you are (and you like Bethesda’s style of gameplay and storytelling), then you’re in for something great.

What they did here is astounding, and only someone who is extremely biased will tell you otherwise.

I have not had this much fun in a rpg in over 15 years, the story is so well written and it even made me question how i view life and probably changed me forever, so a "life changing experience" isnt out of the question.

The graphics: They may not be insane high resolution graphics but the way its displayed does wonders, i landed on a moon of a red ringed gas giant, the moon was so close to it, the planet took up 70% of the sky and the rings looked like they was cutting into the horizon, i was so close i could actually see the rings moving! particles of rocks and debris orbiting at unhead of speeds, looked like a saw blade. the lighting does this game extreme justice in most scenarios, its so atmospheric.

The story: As i said above, the story made me question how i view life, changed my views, and guided me down a healthier path. The ending gives you so much room to build your own opinion, and certain characters have such unique viewpoints on everything, like barret for example, his own words and wisdom helped me in rough times. I cant go into to much detail without spoilers, but certain things happen... and they really....really hit hard, and show you values of life and death without holding any punches. im bewildered to why people are saying its boring and written poorly.

The gameplay: Exploration in this game is what you would expect from real life exploration most of the time. and i love that! landing on pluto to find a barren lifeless cold world so far away from the sun, mining its resources in extremely low gravity, and finding some abandoned civilian outpost that told a story about "escaping the monotony of life" was all extremely entertaining to me, then landing on some world that really makes you think of world of warcrafts highland fields. invoking extreme nostalgia in me as i explored the brown tall grassed wheat like fields, being chased down by literal fire breathing rock like dragons. even named dragons in the game. the sense of wonder on a weird brain themed planet was also crazy to experience, floating brain creatures and plants that have pulsating meat for bodies. exploration in this game brought out the inner star trek fan in me. i even made my build around surveying and scanning.

RPG elements: This is indeed a bethesda game, your choice matters, and it changes the game significantly. You will not have the same experience again unless you try to, and even then, random events might change that. There is no shortage of choices and things to side path into. the new game plus adds to this by letting you try again in a more convenient way, for new experiences each time. Cant give it enough praise.

Sound: I wont lie, the sound is not realistic at all, but i think this is a good thing, would be boring hearing nothing most of the time and muffling on low atmosphere planets. space doesnt really like sound... would be a boring game if it was realistic that way. but the sound design is wonderful! the buzz of strange artifacts to the wildlife on a strange world. There is a lot of variety.

AI: Now the ai isnt perfect, but name one game where it is, this ai is still miles ahead of previous bethesda games, i saw enemies retreat and spread out on both sides to hit me from all corners when they realized a direct approach wasnt working, i had to actually work my way to a new position to survive. They will still get stuck "taking" cover though, i dont think creation engine will ever fix this... but still, having to change my playstyle to match theirs was something i didnt expect from bethesda, good on them.

Loot: I was still finding brand new gun models entirely at level 50. There is no shortage on weapons of any kind. Then you have rarities, and perks for them. finding unique items that act way differently than the model normally would. i found myself wanting to keep everything and struggling to pick what to sell. So much choice. it inspired me to change up what build i was going for 4 times!

Random encounters: I came across a fleet battle where i got to choose the side i wanted, helped out in a insane dogfight frenzy as 2 capital class ships bombarded eachother, after the battle, i received a nearly 3 hour questline to pursue. If this doesnt scream how good bethesda is at random events, i dont know what does.

Lets address the elephant in the room, just looking at the score of this game screams how obviously split everyone is, its all 0's or 10's. You know what else is obvious? The 0's all say the same crap, they are DEFINITELY sony ponies. dont trust the review bombing, look at the more intricate reviews that are long and filled with splitting information on categories. Those are the people who actually played the game

The game is basically what I expected: an RPG set in space. I really enjoyed the main story. It is a bit slow to start, but it didn't long to hook me into completing it. As in previous BGS titles, there are several faction-based story lines. There's also a mission board system with fetch/kill/delivery quests to kill some time and get some credits.

in over 70 hours of game play, I've had one CTD which is pretty amazing for a BGS title. I've had a lot of minor bugs - mostly NPC pathing which has often been hilarious.

Though I love the game, it does have some faults. The outpost system is pretty powerful, but it ultimately doesn't have much of a purpose in-game outside of making credits. Making credits is important, of course, but I wish it had more impact.

The side and faction questing is amazing. It carries so much of the rest of the game. The sheer amount and quality of content alone is responsible for most of this score.

The space aspect of the game is poor. Despite BSGs attempts to be ambitious, the ambition boiled-down to them improving on all the parts that they were already good at. Loading is excessive even compared to previous titles, and you can feel the smoke and mirrors of space flight - to the extent that space feels like a mini game tacked on to Bethesda’s bread and butter.

And this pattern repeats. Every part of the game that BSG is not typically good at is either mediocre or barely improved on. Outposts, flight, trading, UI, AI, etc, all have you yearning to play other games that do these things better.

If all parts of the game were of equal quality to the good bits it may even have been a 10, but the smaller parts let down the whole. Ambitiousness is doing something others aren't, and making the same game for 20y 'but Space', then doing the bare minimum for all other parts is not ambitious.

The game is good and worth playing if you like their previous titles.

Current progress: NG+ completed most faction quest lines, have close to fully upgraded outposts linked up.

I'm about to be real. I'm sorry, but if you're so out of touch and privileged that seeing a pronoun choice in an RPG character creation screen is enough to make you cry rage for TWO AND A HALF MINUTES, you're fragile af and you deserve ridicule.

Pick something and move on like a normal person. The only people who are getting upset at this are middle-aged white dudes who are having an existential crisis and are upset that the world has moved on around their tiny worldview bubble.

Imagine if I, a gay man, threw this type of unhinged tantrum because the majority of video game protagonists are middle-aged white men. Nathan Drake, Kratos, Adam Jensen, Arthur Morga, John Marston, 90% of GTA protagonists (GTA V had TWO straight white male protagonists), CoD campaign protagonists, Master Chief, Mario, Starkiller, Vito Scaletta, Ezio Auditore, Desmond Miles, and the list goes on and on. Despite having zero options, I have enjoyed ALL of these games. imagine if I refused to play games if the protagonist was a straight white man. I would have a game library of like 20 games throughout my whole life.

Let other people feel included in this hobby. There are 8 billion people on planet Earth, and not all of them are straight white men. Let the rest of us have some representation. You'll live. Your precious escapism will be fine. And if pronouns, words that permeate the entirety of the language you speak every day, are enough to annoy or irritate you, you're perfectly free to die mad about it. The world and human society will continue to move on as it has always done.

For me, this is easily one of the best games that has come out in recent memory. Like Elden Ring last year, I constantly find myself thinking about the things I'm going to do next in the game, the situations my characters are finding themselves in, where certain plotlines and backstories are going, and what's going to happen next. When I'm playing, I'm finding myself going to do things that seem interesting, only to be distracted by something else and spend hours going off on complete tangents from what I originally set out to do. Unlike many previous Bethesda games, of which I have bothered to complete very few despite having hundreds of hours in all of them (aside from FO76), the main story is constantly intriguing me and inviting me to come back for more. The core NPC interactions are interesting, and their backstories are investing, thrilling, and lengthy.

The ship building is utterly insane what you can accomplish with it. People have made everything from Thomas the Tank Engine, to the Magic School Bus, to The Planet Express, Halo's Pelican, and the Normandy from Mass Effect.

I could blather on for a while about what I find good about this game, but I'll stop here as there is a lot to discover and it's fun to just discover it on your own. It has a somewhat shaky start, but if you keep plowing through the story missions for a few hours, you will get to where the gameplay and game fully open up and that is where it is clicking for most people. In some ways this feels like a totally typical Bethesda experience, but in plenty of others it feels like something totally new and different from what they've done before. I loved it!

Performance wise, with the PC I listed above, the game is incredibly smooth. I'm not pixel peeping or running an FPS meter, but the gameplay feels very smooth on a 1440p monitor with G-Sync. Little to no stuttering, and great frame pacing.

For me the game is a very solid 9/10, but giving a 10/10 because of the absurdly low scores people are giving.

People complaining about graphics didn't listen to Todd Howard about upgrading, it is a next gen game.
With over 70 hours played i am still enjoying every bit of the game, sometimes it is a little bit repetitive but it doesn't stop me from playing.

With no level cap you can do anything you want in the game because you can unlock every perk on the same character which is one best choices bethesda made in my opinion.
I am planning to 100% this game, this includes 100% surveying every planet, unlocking all perks and completing every single mission.

The exclusion of ground vehicles can be a hindrance sometimes, however a fully upgraded boostpack (perk) really helps in traversing great lengths, even when overencumbered.
Would i like to see certain ground vehicles? Yes.

With my new setup even loading screens only take a second, this game runs perfectly.
Crashes never happen and i play between 5-10 hours non stop.

Only thing im missing that i do see in alot of different space rpgs is the intelligent alien lifeforms, whom have their own civilization, technology etc.
However i do believe the first DLC to contain those based on the name.

This are my PERSONAL thoughts on this game.
People are confused comparing this game to No Mans Sky or Space Citizen, this game is not trying to be a Space Simulator, it's trying to be a Bethesda Game set in planets and in space, it has some exploration elements and a lot, I mean a lot of story to its main campaign and side missions, you will be overwhelmed for how much stuff you can

Visuals are a step up from any previous Bethesda Game, gun mechanics are pretty damn good, not COD type because it's not trying to be a competitive shooter. both 3rd person modes are great as well. You can see the love that was poured into this game with all items, perfectly crafted. lighting is superb as well.
This is easily Game Of The Year Material and will be more played game of the year.

    2) Dialogue in true Bethesda fashion is nothing but yes, yes, yes, no (but actually yes). You are completely railroaded into doing every quest in the exact way Bethesda intends, there's very little opportunity for actual roleplaying or creativity.

    3) Quests are again railroaded, often dull, uninspired fetch quests across huge, empty maps. For example a diplomat can't enter the colony due to him lacking a visa, he requests you speak to the "nearby" embassy, que a 2 minute walk to a tram > LOADING SCREEN > 2 minute walk to the embassy > 2 sentence "conversation" > 20 XP. Utterly boring, huge time sink.

In a moment of meta irony I even had a companion point out how sad the plight of the miners was when there was a huge galaxy to explore, amusing given I was on a quest to mine 10 chunks of iron that was dotted about an empty, lifeless rock field.

    4) The maps are empty and lifeless, inhabited planets just feature huge expanses of nothing with the odd interactable NPC dotted here and there. Want to shop? Enjoy 2 minutes of holding down w or the controller stick Uninhabited planets are even worse.

Overall it feels more like a tech demo than anything else. The fact that critics are giving this game 80+ shows that they are all compromised by the "access for good reviews" model.

As I loved ESV: Skyrim & Fallout 4. Obviously no single game can be perfect without bugs lack of details here and there. I’ve played many games on all platforms and I’ve enjoyed many of them. Some I can say were 1s and others I can say were 10s. Well what is a 1 and what is a 10? Well a 1 is a game that falls apart before you even can get to playing and a 10 is a game that exceeds your initial expectations and calls you to not only play more but to ask for another game. Starfield not only fulfills the criteria of a 10 but it also speaks to Bethesda fans. For those that want to hate on this game due to its exclusivity and review bomb it, that absolutely proves it’s glory as a 10. This is not to appeal to console warmongerers but to appeal to rationality if a game is so good the enemy must strike at it to save face it must be good. I would like to see some of that level of game from Sony, I’m sure they will too. But as a PC player formerly Plastation>Xbox This game proved to me a Bethesda fan that they were curating a game for me to play and enjoy and kept in a little cute Bethesda bugginess as all their games have. Overall this game exceeeded my expectations in the following categories: Combat, Story, Size, Difficulty, Dialogue, Leveling, Ship Building, Outpost Building, and Visuals. There’s much more but there’s only so many things one can think of before the game shows it to you. Do I recommend this game on Steam? No. But I think it’s a fair game and some people will like it very much.

Haters aren’t even getting the facts right. This is a worse release than 2077 because at least 2077 had a perfect 3D engine? Come on, 2077 did not even have collision physics on vehicles when it first came out. Starfield, for Todd’s completely blown up ambition, even made very realistic physics for spaceships’ space travels - then the game does not use it at all, because it used jumps + loading screens all the time.

As for graphics, Bethesda clearly has a management problem. The game is obviously broken down into different sections and some workers made very low res assets and scenes, while others made absolutely beautiful places. This problem is everywhere in this game. Some aspects of the game are top-notch, even groundbreaking, but others, like optimization for PC, are completely messed up.

The main problem about Starfield is that Bethesda tried to make more than one game. Starfield is two or three games put in one, therefore the scope blew up. It’s a RPG plus space exploration plus base building. Deep down the reason why Todd Howard tried to put three games into one, I think, is that he envisioned an “ultimate space sandbox”, like how he said TES6 would be the ultimate fantasy world sandbox. He wanted to build a vivid world of his imaginary early space colonization era. Then that’s the problem - people’s lives in such an era will be extremely diversified. There is no way one game from 2023 can encompass them all. At least there will be some people living the settlements/cities, some people to settle on new stars, and some people to explore new stars.

Hence the game had the exact same three main gameplay styles: RPG (cities and faction quests + “open world” exploration in cities), base building and space exploration. Bethesda could only bring the RPG part to near-perfection.

Same outdated engine. I could already tell from the trailers this was going to feel like a 2007 game with that clunky mess that is the creation engine. It's even worse than I thought: unimaginative writing. At least Morrowind was creative for it's time, and Oblivion felt like a fresh expansion upon the setting.

This however.....space filled with boring hillbillies we've seen way too

This however.....space filled with boring hillbillies we've seen way too much already. A game doesn't have to be innovative to be good, but it has to be creative, original or have a good atmosphere. This game has neither of these 3.

Why are all these terrible writers infesting modern game studio's with their boring unimaginative crappy writing. Almost all NPCs are soulless. Andromeda, WoW, D4, and now this. You can barely call these people writers.

BG3 I guess showed even more clearly how a game like Starfield is just outdated. Talking to random NPCs in starfield is excruciatingly boring after almost every NPC being worthwhile to talk to in BG3.

Inventory looks bland, world looks bland, devoid of atmosphere. It's like they tried to make a Mass Effect epic grand universe and only filled it with boring humans.

Unimaginative is the word for this game.

For me, this title is everything No Man's Sky isn't, and it is on day 1. A space exploration game with an appealing story and characters and somewhat meaningful stuff to do on planets.

It's impossible to create something like this without incurring some inconveniences such as loading times, procedural content repetition, or fast travel from a map! Not sure what the alternative is since you know, we are talking about space travel here.

Procedural content will get old quickly but is the search for that bit of hand-crafted content what makes you want to go to the next marker.

The story for me is pretty decent and surprises you every step of the way, giving you plenty of choices. The characters are appealing and the game makes me care about my companion's fate, and how my choices affect them. In a way none of the previous Bethesda titles did.

The graphics are a bit outdated, but I definitely do not care as long as the game core is decent.

Sure, it might not have the charm of TES or Fallout, but this is a new IP that has a lot of potential. It combines the best of Fallout and TES in one package.

After +25hours played I haven't even done many side quests so I feel I'm barely scratching the surface.

    *PUNTOS POSITIVOS:

This cosmic adventure takes players on an exhilarating journey through a meticulously crafted galaxy, offering an unparalleled mix of stunning visuals, immersive gameplay, and a captivating narrative.

    Visual Splendor:
"Starfield" is a visual marvel. The game's engine showcases breathtaking space vistas, celestial bodies, and intricate spacecraft designs. The attention to detail is awe-inspiring, from the gleaming surfaces of starships to the mesmerizing beauty of distant planets. Every celestial body feels unique, with its own ecosystems and terrain, making exploration a true visual delight. Character models and animations are equally impressive, adding depth to the game's immersive universe.

    Boundless Exploration:
At its core, "Starfield" is a sandbox of limitless possibilities. You begin by creating your own character and choosing your backstory, setting the stage for a personalized adventure. The freedom to explore the vast galaxy is empowering, and Bethesda's open-world design shines through. As you pilot your starship through the cosmos, you'll encounter a sense of scale that is both breathtaking and believable. Whether you're embarking on interstellar voyages or engaging in intense dogfights with space pirates, the gameplay is fluid and immersive.

The highlight of "Starfield" is planetary exploration. Each world you visit is a handcrafted masterpiece, teeming with life, mysteries, and opportunities. From ancient ruins to resource-rich landscapes, every planet is a unique experience. The game encourages exploration by rewarding players with valuable resources, lore, and the chance for meaningful interactions with the galaxy's diverse inhabitants.

    Compelling Storytelling:
"Starfield" offers a gripping narrative that weaves political intrigue, ancient enigmas, and moral dilemmas into a cohesive and engaging storyline. The choices you make profoundly impact your character's reputation and alliances in the galaxy. Side quests and activities are abundant, providing a wealth of distractions from the main plot. Whether you're aiding colonists in building new settlements, investigating unexplained cosmic anomalies, or uncovering the secrets of long-lost civilizations, these diversions are often as enthralling as the central narrative.

    In Conclusion:
"Starfield" is a monumental achievement in space gaming, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the genre. Um legítimo RPG da Bethesda. Um dos jogos mais divertidos que já joguei, quanto mais você explora mais descobre os detalhes desse universo.

Extremely enjoyable with endless things to do. This game has 250,000 voice lines and my companion even jumps into fully fledged conversations when I’m completing quests. Highly recommend.

Outstanding game, everything I ever wanted in an RPG set in space. Great job Bethesda!

Huge step back in terms of gameplay depth from previous titles. Only about a dozen planets actually have unique content on them. All of the others are randomly filled with the same 12-20 repeating POIs. NPCs don't have schedules or homes, shopkeepers are always behind their desk. Only 3 item slots (Helmet, Suit, Backpack). Can't salvage items or remove mods from weapons. The repeatableHuge step back in terms of gameplay depth from previous titles. Only about a dozen planets actually have unique content on them. The skills are mostly just % increases (10% more damage or 10% more healing). Very shallow game overall compared to all other main Bethesda titles. Expand

Congratulations Bethesda, for this excellent game, I have more than 50 hours and I still haven't finished it and I'm fascinated with its history and mysteries, simply addictive.

This is absolutely the game I've been waiting for. It's had me hooked from the moment I started it up. It's been a pleasantly mostly bug free experience as well. Nothing like the buggy messes of Bethesda's previous games. I haven't even started modding it yet. Once I get to start doing that, probably on a second playthrough, because that is definitely happening, this game will be a go to for me for years to come. Welcome to Starfield! Expand

It's a great game but not without flaws. To be honest, it worths a 8.5/10. But I'm tired of kids who put 1 or 0. If you enjoy Betheda's games and space opera...this latter is for you

There's a lot of flaws in space in Starfield. But that does not prevent me from exploring our galaxy again and again.

I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
