.I after watching the Digital Foundry review of the optimization in this game and seeing the Bethesda actually optimized the game for AMD but not Nvidia/Intel I am changing my review to not recommended. There is no excuse for this Todd Howard.

No Dlss. No 32:9 support. No way to change field of view. The story seemed really boring. The first person shooting in blocky square buildings is dull. I was really disappointed with this game. Shame it didn’t live up to the hype.

Though the one IMPORTANT thing that I'll say that many people and streamers and journalists are too scared to say.. is the overrepresentation of women in all roles in the game. 87 hours and I've come across zero male bounty hunters they've ALL been women, 98% of security in the games cities, are women, you're lucky to see a male. It's a huge woke push for women to be represented putting men the in roles of the bad guys and push the good men to be side npc's to NPC's themselves.

It's exactly the woke you expect. The only thing they got right is giving women proper hair styles and not short blue or green hair.

Starfield is woke and until the modders can attempt to fix the woke ideology it's not worth playing.

At times the game is gorgeous and at other times it looks very outdated. NPCs stare into your soul for no reason and over encumbrance is yet again and issue.

I'm willing to give it a 6 because the gun play is okay and the ship building is kind of fun. Overall I was very excited to play Starfield but in the end I mostly felt disappointed and irritated by my 18 hour experience.

This is so tiring to and how to break immersion 101: everything is fast ravel and loading screen...

I loved skyrim and fallout (76 never bought since it was **** ) series but this game is not even close to those games, and has so many problems. And please do not start me on all the goddamn loading screens and fast travel for everything that everyone else is blaming on "limitations" Games have been doing texture, map streaming and so on with no loading screens or barley any for a decade.

It's not like its "new technology" It's been here for ages. We all know what the reason is and that is Bethesda will never let go of their old and outdated engine.

I hope the game gets better for the others players that enjoy it, but i refunded it since this is no excuse to be like this on release and i am tired of Bethesda now and this was the last straw for me.

At this point in the game (8 hours now) I'm just chugging into it desperately searching for something that grabs my attention but the more I play the more I desperately want to find and download mods to completely revamp my experience. So as it stands out of the box this game is disappointing me with its story and activities to do apart from other titles Bethesda have made that have wowed me right from the moment I picked them up. I do want to WARN you, though - the opening missions force you to interact with the story for a few hours. You do have to do that before you get let off the leash (2-4 hours).

    So, lets just talk gameplay:

Combat - stand directly in front of the enemy and just keep shooting them (20 levels above you? eh whatever).
    Settlement Building - awkward
    Ship Building - extremely awkward
Exploration - its a 20x20 cube of a forest, desert, or glacier copy-pasted about 500 times with 3 locations that are randomly generated. They're mostly caves.
Space Exploration - non-existent, you're selecting what random grouping of landing zones (save for a handful, all procedurally generated) you want to see
Companions - will absolutely not shut up to the point where I can't tell if its a bug

It paints a really bleak picture of humanity, since 95% (edited from 90% now that I have more time in the game) of human encounters are just bandits who talk exactly like Fallout bandits - over-the-top 'chaotic evil' ****
But *worse,* it just isn't even fun - this is the most boring game I've played in 20 years.

Edit: I want to add now that I've put in 5 or 6 more hours into this, the procedurally generated locations are actually duplicated item for item. I've come across the same abandoned UC listening post on 4 different worlds.

Based on my experience there's only 10 or so locations and they're just copy-pasted on worlds that themselves are randomly generated copy-paste messes. As is the flora and fauna. I've come across a wolf-like creature with a graboid head on every single world with life. It's usually called a "trapjaw" of some kind, they just change the colors and one of the adjectives to describe it (if you're lucky).

If I think about how I've felt with the game since I early accessed it and put in 40 hours so far, I can say that I look forward to each each time I sit down to play. All the things that go right for the game far outweigh the negatives to me. I own probably over 100 RPGs, and this one really makes space exploration fun. In the beginning I found myself latching onto a side quest that took me 5 hours before I returned to the main mission. I just kept meeting new elements to interact with and had like 3 random events that fed organically enough into each other that I kept exploring. Some items get repetitive after a few dozen hours, but the core concept of "giant space opera RPG exploration" does it well. This is what I've wanted ever since watching 2001 A Space Odyssey. I can understand how someone could give this game a 6/7 for average comparison to other games...but this game has far to much work put into it to make anything below that. Expand

Soulless political messaging platform that under-delivers on the implied promise of its advertising and lacks the open world you play a Bethesda game for.
Instead you get uninspired strings of fishbowl instances and the entirety of space is merely a separate fishbowl you have to fast travel to before you fast travel again to the fishbowl you intended to reach. Isolated space arenas that may or may not have anything to do in it before you can fast travel once again to the destination, which is probably an empty landscape that mostly looks the same as every other empty landscape you've visited and are forced to walk slowly across to find the quest marker, and maybe pass the random structure you've seen 12 times already with next to no variation between its instances.
The worldbuilding is complete garbage that flies in the face of realism, the world is not believable at all with a near complete lack of identity behind the superficial veneers advertising a faction, as somehow after 200 years or something the remains of humanity still have a cosmopolitan modern PC political persuasion with random accents from any given modern day country that was already nearly a century out of date before humans had their exodus from Earth in the timeline.
Overall it feels like there are many missing or incomplete systems that they scrapped or really should have thought about implementing.
The near unusable "Map" they have is the most glaring example. They practically don't have a map. Much like the rest of the game being a fast travel simulator, the map's only function is to see and click fast travel nodes as the map is otherwise entirely unreadable.

Bethesda games have taken up perhaps 70% of my lifelong gaming hours and it was a foregone conclusion tat I would have bought Starfield so yes, I preordered it, and the 100$ early access version no less.
I regret it. I might not buy TES6 at this point, as it's unlikely they'll improve by then- They'll surely get worse the same as other once-great studio names that get hollowed out over time until they're a pox on their own history.

It has a bunch of bugs NPCs trying to walk somewhere specific they just walk back an forth for minutes at times, Ship glitching out while in Cockpit, and Leveling system worse than Fallout 4 and far worse than Skyrim.

It feels like this game was finished in 2019 and then sat on for a few years with a few things added over time. If someone has to invest more then 20+hrs into a game as other gamers have been "preaching" sorry but if a game can't hook you in the first hour either it be story or game play well the game has failed. There is nothing good to say about this game. Over priced for what you get. I paid for the early access played it for 3 Hours and was bored through whole ordeal. Best choice I made was getting it refunded. As for "current day" insertions seemed unnecessary. Don't waste your time or your money. Multi billion dollar company like Bethesda who got burnt by there last few installments should have learned not to do the bare minimum and release a faulty product and expect full price. Expand

I like Bethesda games and their special charm but it's just a Bethesda game no more no less.
If you like FO, Skyrim you can't go wrong with Starfield. Only here again much too much was promised on the part of Bethesda and Microsoft.
Whether it is now the best Bethesda game?
can be, but for me it is after 50h still behind FO3 and Skyrim.

I LOVE THIS GAME!!!! I have 50+ hours into it so far and I have barely touched the tip of the iceberg. I have not stopped playing it since it came out. The gameplay is fun, the quests feel like they have a purpose, even the obligatory delivery quests. The combat is fast-paced and action-packed. I actually enjoy the NPC interactions, the voice acting is top-notch.

Cuatro balas y a volar.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

Loving the game so far! Already beat it and have done New Game+ as well. I was a little let down that it didn't have seamless landing and takeoff from planets such as in no man's sky but it's not the worst thing ever. Also, despite not being able to fully walk around a planet I have never hit a world border. I enjoy the ship building a lot and I have dabbled in outpost building too which isn't normally my cup of tea but making a cool base with your own ship builder is still neat. Overall I love the game and can't wait for mod support and dlc. Expand

I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
